Speaker 1 (00:00):
To our man. And I'm calling him our man because
he was at the Master's for US and now he
is at the US Open at Pinehurst, and I'm talking
about Andrew Sloane. Andrew Greetings, Hello, Leslie, how are you? Oh, look,
we've really got that. We've had a text in already. Hi, Leslie,
can you ask Sloaney to get back to work? From
the team at Amicus.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
At Rich From some of them, I would have thought.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
I thought, well, they've taken the opportunity because we are
actually asking people to text him for something else. But
they've certainly taken the opportunity to give you a message.
But we are grateful. And how cool that you are
at Pinehurst.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
Yes, well, it's stiflingly hot here. There's le's thirty three
degrees and getting close to being unbearable. Really Thankfully there's
a lot of shade with pine trees. Massive crowd, they're
saying about sixty thousand on the course. Mighty phenomenal. Yeah,
it's quite tough viewing. I thought it would have any

(00:59):
bit easier than this because it's a reasonably flat course.
But because it's flat, you don't get the same so
amphitheater viewing opportunity pats at Augusta. But that said, it's
a great experience in the USGA have done a pretty
good job.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
Oh fantastic. We are about in the USA, is it?
I mean, I'm showing my ignorance here.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
It's in North Carolina, right, So it's about an hour
away from Rawley, Durham, which is quite a big university town.
Three of the famous university. They're like Duke Lake Forest
in North Carolina, so quite well known in other sports.
But it's sort of like the Fnandreas of America. Really
there's forty golf courses in a fifteen mile radius of

(01:42):
a little central American village and it's just it's just
Uza's golf. It's a pretty exciting place.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
I mean, it's so different, isn't it from the Masters?
Because that that is so mystical. The Masters, It's got
so many quaint parts to it. But this one, I mean,
apart from it being flat flatter compared to them, what
else do you note about it?

Speaker 2 (02:03):
Well, I think that's set up so much different because
the us GA take the open around a sort of
a rate of probably about a dozen courses. The infrastructure
is just not in place, so they've got to upgrade
the camporary standard. I've got to say it's pretty professional.
The only the only thing I probably criticize a little
bit is a lack of leaderboards, and so it's all

(02:25):
gone on Wi Fi, and then the WiFi has been
a bit of rat too, so you can be wandering
around parts of the course and not being known who's
leading or where things are at. So that would be
the main reason. But yeah, that said, it's a totally
different golf course too, Augusta. Of course its defenses. It's
greens and TV. You'll be watching balls that because they're

(02:48):
going to stay on the green, roll off sort of
turtleback type green, and you just got to hit the ball,
put the ball in the right part of the green
or it just rolls off and the putting is unbelievably difficult.
Quite a generous driving course, but if you've missed the
fair way, you're in that sort of waist land bank
with whispy wiregrass and it can be pretty difficult to

(03:10):
play out of school. Reflecting that, Yeah, so.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
I'm just looking at the leaderboard now, is it a
burg or a burg?

Speaker 2 (03:18):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (03:18):
Burg, Ohburg, kent Ley de chambro and McElroy's up there
as well Thompson, But no Ryan.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
Fox, No, I think he must be round about the
learning about the cutline. When I last locked, I hadn't
actually seen him play AGAs you teed off quite late.
And it's just it's it's just difficult. It's it's quite
difficult to get to see everybody. And it's a big
piece of property too.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
I can tell you Ryan Fox is plus six through eight.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
Okay, well you've got a chance, yeah, plus three for
the day. You've got the tenth coming up, which for
him should be par five the driver and mid Iron. Yeah,
it'll every tight because there's not not too many booty
holes there coming in.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Did you tell us you know how the prices at
the Masters were so low for food and drinking? Did
you tell me what they were like at Pinehurst?

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Oh, the double would be double at least. You know,
it's pretty expensive the ticket and the basic ticket price
is about two hundred and fifty US of the day,
so that's that's that's pricey enough. But the beers are
eleven dollars US you know for a standard sort of corona.

(04:38):
Sandwiches are all up around that sort of ten and
eleven twelve dollars, so yeah, it's at least double where
it is at Augusta.

Speaker 1 (04:45):
Yeah, right, you'll be on a diet then it's.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
Good quality food.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
Dog Okay, it's well that's a relief for you.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
Well, it's one of those things. It's so dolly hot.
He's drunk a lot of water, but the hydrated, pretty
jolly coffrey.

Speaker 1 (05:01):
Just the fans are they? Is it a different group
that gather for Pinehurst as opposed to the Masters.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
I was expecting it to be. I thought it would
be a little bit more boorish, with thee old get
in the whole sort of carry on. But now it's
been really good. I would have thought it would be
on par. Pretty educated people that I've set next to
in the ground stand good people, no orders down, it's not.
It's not noisy, no, i'd say on par. The Americans

(05:31):
love their golf.

Speaker 1 (05:32):
Yeah, well you obviously do as well. And is this
one of your best golfing experiences.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
It's up there. I've never done a rider couple or
a President's Cup, and a lot of people I've spoke
to have been to those. They said they're pretty cool. Yeah,
it's right up there. I think that the way they've
set this thing up for a one off event. When
I say one off of it, they are going to
come back to pine If every five or six years
now going forward, the US j of U s g
a of movie headquarters to Pineheers from New Jersey. So

(06:04):
obviously they did even five and six years going forward
to about twenty fifty. So yeah's right up there. It's
a really cool event.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
Oh look, it's fantastic and fantastic that you're available to
check to us. Do you think they oversubscribe it? Maybe?
Are there too many people?

Speaker 2 (06:20):
Yes? I do. I think there's too many there. You know,
the Masters are different because it's a smaller field and
it gets cramped on the Sunday of about nine only.
But generally it's pretty good here. It's really a bit
of a struggle to see a lot of the action,
to be honest, and you've got a especial when it's
hot turrets. It makes it a bit difficult. But there's

(06:41):
fighting many people. I would have.

Speaker 1 (06:43):
Thought, yeah, well, we're very grateful that you've made yourself
available on what is a very hot day, a very
exhausting day. What time were you at the golf course at.

Speaker 2 (06:52):
Pine Hus about nine thirty this morning.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
And it's what four point thirty in the afternoon now over.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
There, that's right, yep, four five, but it's still still
thirty three degrees all right, and it's going to be
for really well yeah, I think well, pardon what's the temperature?

Speaker 1 (07:12):
And CHRISTI sex degrees at the moment. It's overcast right now,
overcast and drizzley, but that's winter. That's okay. There's been
no sport cancel, which is good. We've had a bit
of rain overnight which we needed to be fair. Any
last messages for your work colleagues.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
Oh, just till the head down, keep going and I'm
not missing them one a little bit.

Speaker 1 (07:35):
Thank you very much. You're a good man and we
really loved catching up with you. Andrew Sloan, it's fantastic.
Thank you. Take care of sack travels.
