Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, so, Wiennie, what a fabulous mato riki weekend you had? Well?
Speaker 2 (00:07):
Is it started with our Friday tournament at the rene
or A golf club. We run a Friday tournament every
alternate weekend. We had a larger than normal field because
of the match WEEKI weekend and Friday being the holiday.
The round wasn't going that great. It was pretty average,
to be honest. Got to the thirteenth. The whole thirteen
has never been my favorite. I think to always pull
(00:29):
it left. He's gone into dips. Fale hit my ball.
I was playing with the club captain at the time,
and she said, of course that looks good. Soon I said, yeah, yeah,
there does. And we saw the ball bounce a few
times and start to roll and it disappeared and I said,
do you know, I think it's gone in? And I said, well,
he sure hadn't got off the back, sye, And she said,
(00:50):
I think it's gone in. And so we started jumping
and swimming and hugging each other. And I said, oh,
we'd probably better time of down of it, you know,
because if you hadn't, and we're going to look like idiots.
And so we went to the hole looking and there
it was so huge celebrations again and there was a
sponsored hole, so there was money on the bartab and
(01:13):
so people had.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
A few drinks accelerating for one.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Yeah, it was absolutely I didn't care about the rest
of around. That was my day, I tell you. Then
the next day, not the next of the Sunday, So
there was a Friday. The Sunday I had a club
trophy match against as it turns out, the vice captain
and this was the final and off we went. And
(01:41):
as we were crossing over the road to the thirteenth,
Dan said to me said, I'm really sorry I've missed
that hole in one on Friday. Must will been amazing.
I said, it was really lovely, fantastic. Actually lighted at
my ball and didn't even think of a holing moody. Okay.
All I was worried about is not pulling it left
as I'd normally done, and just trying to hit it straight.
(02:03):
Well I did hit it straight, and it was going
straight in an arrow towards the whole, and you know,
my gain sickly said, oh my goodness, disappeared down a
couple of times. Disappeared that that's in the hole. I said, no,
it can't be said. It is and once again with
a bit of celebrating, and there we are two hole
(02:23):
ones on consecutive around them the same on the same
teep teabock.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
That's miraculous, isn't it? Really? That's just incredible it is.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
And I mean people that have been playing this game
a lot longer than I have I have said just
what an incredible feat it was. I have to, you know,
be very circumspect and respectful of those that have played
the game for a long time. You know, I'm not
some hot shucked golfer. I'm pretty average. I'm still learning
(02:53):
the craft. So to have been best with these two
holome ones so early on in my journey in golf
is estimating and I'm very grateful.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
So how many years have you been playing?
Speaker 2 (03:05):
True? Yes, my second year when we retired to Manora,
so that was two years ago.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
Do you have a handicap?
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Yes, I do. It's seventeen criker.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
You must be a natural though. If you've moved from
two years into a seventeen, that's pretty remarkable too.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
I have played a number of sports in my life.
Sport is something that I live for, so I'm very
happy to find golf because I told you we have
ladies in their late seventies eighties at our golf club
that I lower handicaps than myself.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
So how old are you, Sue.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
I'm sixty four. I look forward to next year because
I get my gold car would be.
Speaker 3 (03:43):
I noticed an accent there.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
Suit Yes, originally from Africa. So I left of Africa
in ninety eight and have been in New Zealand since then.
Speaker 1 (03:54):
Well, this is a great story and it gives people
great hope.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
Well you know this is it? If em I could
give some advice, it's yes, our precious high but this
is not skilled. Okay, you put them all in the
right place and then Lady luck takes over. You know.
Good fourteen?
Speaker 3 (04:13):
Wow, I don't.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
Know about two on one weekend.
Speaker 3 (04:17):
I don't know about that.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
Well I never wanted to, so ME asked me, do
you think you're a good pert?
Speaker 1 (04:23):
Me?
Speaker 2 (04:23):
I said, that's not for me to say. Look, I
think the support I've had at the beginning golfer any
or has been upstanding, absolutely outstanding.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
Well, we just love stories like those because, as I
said before, it does give people hope and that Lady
luck could happen to them, if that's what you call it,
But there has to be more to it than that.
What other sports did you play?
Speaker 2 (04:42):
Well? I played cricket, yeah, and the Tennants squosh, quite
a few ball sports. I did horse riding, swimming.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
Yeah, and this was all back in South Africa.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Yeah. I guess I've always being competitive, but I've always
tried to keep sporting perspective in terms of life. It's
not the bill and or if you win a game
or lose a game. It's what you've what you've put
into the game that is more important.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
They sound like very good principles to live your sporting
life by and your life in general. But gosh, what
a buzz. You will never ever forget it that weekend
much a weekend twenty twenty four?
Speaker 2 (05:29):
No, what one incredible best in this game? Yeah.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
Well, look, thank you very much for talking to us
here at News Talks. It'd be we really appreciate that.
And all we can say is happy days on the
golf course, and I wonder how many more you'll get.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
So well, thank you Leslie for eaching ou to appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
Well, thank you, Sue Winnie, and keep getting those holes
in one because we love the stories.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
