Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's the right time to talk golf now. In an

(00:02):
association with the Elmwood Training Company, the woman's premier Indi
club competition, the Pollock Cup, gets underway tomorrow. In Joining
us on the line is Andy SAMs Andy, good morning,
How are you?

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Good morning? Craig Hey, you doing very well.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
Thank you so much for your time and of course
you are the head professionally. Wait at the y Murray
Beach Golf Club, the defending champs in the Pollock Cup.
How are your team shaving up this year?

Speaker 2 (00:28):
Yeah, pretty much, very similar to last year. So we've
sort of retained five of our six players from last
year's final. So we have Araha, Minne Pinnik, Zaria Bourne,
Angela Girk and Dianna Matthews, Lynn Robertson returning, Pam Chapman
who played last year. She's taken a year off for
family reasons. But we've got back Georgia Wayman who played

(00:51):
in twenty twenty two but missed last year of injury,
so very able person to come in and replace her.
So yeah, we're looking forward to a good season.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
They're a pretty young team beck last year and winning
the Pollock Cup, so I guess another year's experience under
the belt will go a long way towards Pet's trying
to defend that title.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
Yeah. Yeah, the young players obviously they're progressive, they're developing,
so hopefully just from that, you know fact, that we'll
be a little bit stronger than we were last year.
But that goes for a few of the teams in
the competition, so we'll just have to see how it
all pans out. But it's really good to have our
sort of experienced players with its back, so they are

(01:30):
the core of the team. So it's good that Angela
Diana's still quite young, she's still a junior, but she's
really experienced, played Pollock Cup for at least seven years.
And Lynn Robertson, who I think went eight for eight
last year and each of she won every match, so
it's really good that we've got that sort of sound
foundation to the team.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
The Pollock Cup is as a massive prize, isn't it.
It's a much sought after prize in women's golf here
in Canterbury. They win last year. How is that influenced
the club and PETS brought more players and more female players,
Is it head their influence.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
Whether it's brought more female players. I'm not sure what
it did do is it's obviously it's great for you know,
the atmosphere around the club. We had a couple of
presentations towards the end of the year. I think it
was from memory about twelve years since we'd won it
and won the Pollock Cup. It was five years since
we've won a major men's pennant as well, so it

(02:29):
was sort of five years since we've had one of
these major pennant trophies in the clubhouse. So it's took
pride of place in the trophy cabinet and we just
hope it can stay there for a while. Basically, that's
the idea, right.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
The Pollock Cups made up of six teams and they
play a five around robin of five games. He'd moved
to the semi finals and finals later on October tomorrow.
You guys up against Hereward. What do you know about Hereward?
And how do you see that one going?

Speaker 2 (02:55):
Yeah, it'll be a tricky game. I know a little
bit about them, obviously, we see the lists. They can
be golf post the squads during the week. So they've
picked up Lani and Nui, who's a very good golfer
from Japan based out in round Europe, so she'll be
she'll be a tough match at the top of the

(03:16):
top of the order. Yeah, I don't think there's going
to be any easy games. Looking at all of the squads,
I think looking down the line, they all look a
little stronger than last year. Obviously those with younger players
in that have progressed a year on from where they
were last year. So yeah, we're going to have to
be you know, we're going to have to play play

(03:36):
well all season. But if if we if we do that,
then I back our back our players to have another
strong season, definitely.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
And the other two matches are clear order up against
christ each and Rustly they play water Kitty. How do
you see those.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
Going christ Church are always difficult to beat, will have
a you know, all fancy fancy themselves, I think, But
I think if it had to push me, I'd say
christ Church on that one. Russelly and Wade Kiri. Wade
Kiri definitely looks stronger than last year looking at the lists,
but the Russy players that's a very young side as well.

(04:12):
I think it's at least five out of the six
of them juniors might even be all six, So yeah,
they're they're gonna We'll wait to see how how good
they are this year, but no doubt knowing some of
those players have all developed well since twenty twenty three,
so it's going to be an interesting season. We sort
of see how it pans out over the first three
or four rounds.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
Absolutely right. We look forward to keeping a close eye
on the Pollo Cup. Now, Andy, you're you're a very
busy teaching professional. How's golf going out out there on
the East and the still plenty of people taking up
the game.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
Absolutely, Yeah, it's going well over here. So wa Mari,
you know, thriving on My Beach, thriving, Avan Dale's doing
really well. I think Bottle Late, Wade, Kiri, rough E Ti,
They're all all doing really well with their numbers. So yeah,
it's we get them new players coming every week. It's brilliant.
The game is still growing, definitely.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
And if people want to listen, Andy, how do they
get hold of you?

Speaker 2 (05:07):
They can contact the pro shop at My Beach or
just go to our website. We have myself and Jordan
Pruden are the professionals here. So we have a what
we call the shoot par Golf Academy, so you can
just go to shoot Park Golf Academy dot com and
you can book your lessons online there.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
What is it the one thing I know this is
not part of our script, but what is the one
thing as a teaching professional that is the most key,
the most common I guess fault that you see with
people trying to learn the game of golf was more
than one.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
I guess there's the whole YouTube element. I guess. So
there's a lot of content online, great content as well,
really informational content. It's just people understanding how that content
applies to them, and sometimes they get that all a
little bit back to front. So the information is good,
but how that applies to what they're actually doing can

(06:06):
sometimes be a little misinterpreted. So I guess that's that's
some one of the biggest problems that we see. But yeah,
that's why you should always try and get down to
see DJ pro be a much better way to go.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
Indeed, good on you, right Andy SAMs, really appreciate your
time here on the Allsport breakaus. Best of luck to
your Marty team tomorrowb against Heald and we look forward
to keeping a close eye on the Pollock CAUP over
the coming weeks.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
Yeah. Thanks great cheers.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
