Speaker 2 (00:42):
Good evening morning.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
How are you going? We are doing really well. Look, congratulations,
what a stunning year you have had on the surf
Life Saving beaches, not only of christ Church in New Zealand,
but in the Great Britain Championships which have just concluded.
And if I'm right, some of those titles that you've
won Women's double ski Ski Relay, Women's Taplin, Women's Board
(01:07):
Rescue and bronze in the mixed double ski that on
top of some individual titles the Ocean women and board.
I mean, what a phenomenal year for you. Congratulations, Thank you.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Yeah, it's been amazing. Competing on the other side of
the clube. I wasn't sure what the competition was going
to bring, with it being my first Great Britain competition,
but obviously with the results, really proud of about how
it came away with a few titles and really soaked
with it being the off season as well going into
(01:42):
the season back at home this summer.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
Wow, you will be in top form. I mean to
think that you picked up the top gong at the
Canniby Surf Life Saving Awards Top Athlete as well other
awards within that as well. What a phenomenal season. So
tell us exactly where you have gone to? Which club
over there in the UK?
Speaker 2 (02:01):
So I'm working doing life cutting found in South Devon,
but I managed to join the Poetry Surf Life Saving Club,
a Cornish club. They're a really successful club. They're pretty
much the Mount Mominue of England, just dominating every year.
Got invited to join their club and race with them,
so I wasn't just racing the individual events and head
(02:23):
team events available to race and it worked out so amazing.
They've got a really good club atmosphere and came away
with their nineteenth title.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
Did I cover all the wins?
Speaker 2 (02:34):
Yes, yeah, with mine as well as the club coming
over they were on the overall club of the championship
for the nineteenth time in the row.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
Wow, that is phenomenal. What was the south like?
Speaker 2 (02:48):
It was on the Saturday? It was two to three
foot swell coming in, picked up in the afternoon. We
were excited about a wee wave and then I was
absolutely frothing it on the Sunday got done and it
was about four to five foot solid waves and I
absolutely love it when it's bigger surf. It's more challenging
(03:10):
conditions than anything can happen and you can put your
skills really to the test.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
Is it a bit more like Taylor's Mistake? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (03:18):
The surf actually reminded me of Taylor's a bit with
rips available to use on the way out, but nice
good waves to catch on the way in.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
So were you able to earn money while you're over there?
Speaker 2 (03:31):
Yes, So I've been working for the RNLI Lifeboat Charity
is a lifeguard ironly, is a really big charitable organization
and they do all the lifeboat work along all the
coasts of the UK and they also put lifeguard services
on the beach. So it's been a really good opportunity
(03:52):
to do that and they actually have a really long
season over here as well on the beaches so it's
a really good opportunity to get more experience.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
And generally the weather has been good.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
Maybe once in a fortnight it is. The weather is
very inconsistent. Like Christ it can be for the weather
four seasons in a day and everything. It's been great fun. Nonetheless,
I haven't done too much travel since being here. Been
to a few places up the coast of England, but
planning on doing a bit of traveling before I get
(04:26):
back to New Zealand for the summer.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
Well, look you keep safe over there in the UK
and safe travels back. Be good to see you. But congratulations,
it's been a phenomenal year in the Surf Life Saving area.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
Thank you. Just a massive thanks to Surf Life Saving
Great Britain. They put on an absolutely wonderful club competition
and they've got a really good atmosphere over here. It's
actually been a really nice day today, but it's getting
dark pretty early these days. Yeah, we can't wait be
back on Scarborough Cafe Coffees in the morning. Awesome, I
(05:01):
can see you back in New Zealand.
