Speaker 1 (00:01):
U stock ce b. It is twenty five away from
nine o'clock and we have got Hamish Kurr in the studio.
We are going out to the Lincoln Golf Club and
Graham Henshaw's with us. Graham, good morning, how are we doing?
We're doing really well. Will you've got the jackpot this morning?
Because Hamish Curves in the studio with us, he's been
chatting high jump, gold melon, all the important information that

(00:25):
we need to get out to people. But he is
a man who loves his golf, right Hamish.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Yep, I need some tips mate, help me out.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
You're probably talking to the wrong guy.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
You're the club captain out at the Lincoln Golf Club,
aren't you.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
Yes, I am definitely. Unfortunately or fortunately depends on how
you look at it.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
So Graham sell the Lincoln Golf Club to Hamish curR.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
Well, Hamish, come out and have a hit. You'll find
out how good a little country course is. If you
bring your big dog out, don't get it out of
the bag because you've got a hit to the corner
and then hits to the green and part son. Lincoln
is a country course that we've been around for seventy
five or seventy six years. We're in pretty good.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
Nick.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
We've got our Lincoln open coming up. I guess we'll
talk about that in a minute, but yeah, come on
out and have a go.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
You could be the five hundred and first member.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
That sounds amazing.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
So what do you what do you what do you
play off? Graham?

Speaker 3 (01:25):
I'm on a twenty handicap around around Lincoln a year, yeah,
and Hamish.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
Yeah, I'm about an eighteen, so that's how I'd have
a pretty pretty matched game. My driver is definitely my forte,
so I think I'll be struggle. But yeah, I've never
played Lincoln and I'm really looking forward to to getting
out there.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
Yeah, no, come on out. We don't take bookings, so
it's a bit of a lucky dip. We have club
days obviously, but the good thing about not taking bookings
is that you can that's pretty relax, so you can
come on out when it suits, play some green fees
which are pretty affordable, and where we go.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
I tell you what, since all those houses have gone
up out at Lincoln, you your membership must have grown
because of that. Graham.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
Yeah, I guess Lincoln's like a few other places around Canterbury,
around gross Church that have grown huge. I mean, it's
just off the planet. It's crazy. So Lincoln Golf Course
was out in the country. We moved out here about
seventeen or eighteen years ago and we were next to
the farms. Now Lincoln Golf Course is almost completely surrounded

(02:35):
in houses, which is great, but it also brings a
few challenges.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
Do you have any paid staff?

Speaker 3 (02:43):
Yeah, we've got a couple. We've got a greenkeeper who Blair,
who does a great job, and he has a huge
team of helpers around him and volunteers. And we have
a part time secretary administrator, although if you talk to
Mikey probably since it's a bit more than part time
because he's pretty busy and that's sort of keeping control

(03:03):
of emails coming in and out and membership and all
those sorts of things that need to be done in
a club.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
Now, you mentioned the Lincoln Golf Club Open. Is that
next weekend?

Speaker 3 (03:13):
Yeah? Yeah, So the Lincoln Golf Club Open is an
annual event and it happens in the last Sunday of September.
So we've got a full field already, so that's cool.
We closed the close the book, well, we're supposed to
close it on Sunday, but we're going to close it
early because we're pretty full. We're going to take sixty four,
so that's because we're a nine hole course, sort of

(03:36):
limits how many players we can have. But the good
thing about it this year is we've got a naming sponsor,
so the Famous Grouse the Pub and Lincoln Hear it's
been around forever. Sean's come to the party and helped
us out, which is really cool because it's taken a
bit of the financial pressure out of trying to run
with and it allowed us to increase the prize pool.

(03:59):
So they do twenty seven holes in eighteen and then
have a break for lunch which is part of the
part of the entrant fee, and then go out and
do nine So it's pretty cool, really selln ladies do
the lunch and the money they raised from that stays
in the community. So that's that's absolutely what we're about.
Community and supporting fantastic You.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
Got room for one more? Have you you could high.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
Profile if famous she wants to come out, that will
be a celebrity. That'd be great. We'd love to have you.
We'll put you in with some some like minded golfers
and they won't be high jumpers.

Speaker 1 (04:36):
Oh can they hit the ball as far though?

Speaker 2 (04:39):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
Actually, Mike god and They, who is very kind to
us and assists us with our golf interviews, sent me
a couple of photos of Hamish Kerr. He organized Mike
organized an athletics golf day and we got some photos
of Hamish Kurr in that golf day. So how do
you do that day, Hamish?

Speaker 2 (04:58):
Well, we actually won.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
That's why you had your phototape which was amazing.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
Yeah, I'm a I'm a I'm an Ambrose specialist. I
had a good ball every soften and then yeah I
can I can pull off that wonder shot every soften
as well. So yeah, it's it's Ambrose is definitely more
my tournament. But yeah, it sounds like you've got an
amazing tournament next weekend, that's for sure.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
Yeah, we're really looking forward to it. It's it's an
annual event and it takes a lot of work, and
but all the volunteers jump in and help and we do.
You attract players from all over the place, so it's
not just the Lincoln players that come out and get
them from other clubs and we've got a couple from
North Island this year, must be down here on holiday
or something where they know somebody, and that's great. It's

(05:40):
just adds a bit of extra spice and extra to
the day. It's really cool.

Speaker 1 (05:44):
Well, you do a great job. You're a volunteer, right, Graham. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
Yeah, there's a huge, huge job, a huge team of volunteers. Yeah,
and I am a volunteer. So we only got two
paid staff. Everything else from you know, people driving lawn
mowers and cutting weeds and I don't know, painting the clubhouse.
Everything gets done on voluntary basis and it's really cool
because it's all part of a country club. That's what

(06:10):
we're about.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
Good man, fantastic work. Go well are you playing in
the open yourself?

Speaker 3 (06:15):
Oh no, I'll be too busy running around directing traffic.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
Enough. Oh, good stuff. We'll keep up the great work.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
Thank you very much, Thanks for your time, love your work.
