Speaker 1 (00:00):
Very exciting first time event is going to be raced
around some christ streets. It is going to be a
road race and we know here in Christ, Chuching, Canterbury
and indeed this country how much people love their motor racing.
So to check in with this brand new event that's
going to happen on the eleventh and twelfth of January

(00:21):
twenty twenty five, so not so far away. Let's go
to LMR Race Management and one of their directors is
Tim Lonsdale.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Tim, good morning, Good morning Leslie.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
How are you very good? Well, this is exciting news
street sprints, so many questions what are you doing?

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Well? We've got an opportunity to run a street sprint
within the Waterloo Business Park. The owners of the park
are very supportive. They're both John Sax and James Sax
are both car race enthusias. They've been right behind it
from the start, as well as a lot of the
businesses within the business park. We've had a lot of

(01:00):
support in that area. The council have actually been very
good as well with the consent processing. To date we've
had over one hundred and twenty applications from competitors. Unfortunately,
we've only got place for sixty today. We've had a
lot of enthusiasm and that's very reassuring that we'll get

(01:21):
the support and the public coming in to see what
we believe will be a great event.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
I don't think there'll be any doubt about that in
terms of the enthusiasm and the support. But what type
of cars will be raising.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
There's four vehicle classes. There's a two wheel drive class
that's up to the two thousand cc, then we've got
a two wheel drive open, a four wheel drive, and
the demonstration. And the demonstration is enthusiasts who want to
bring some of their more classic cars to run in

(01:56):
the event. They won't actually be part of the competition,
but it's more of an opportunity to vent to sort
of stretch their legs a wee bit and show off
some of the classic cars that are owned around this
particular area. And it also gives the public some several
advantage points to be able to view the circuit at

(02:18):
different stages. There will be media coverage and large media
screens there so that when the cars disappear from there
viewing points, they'll be able to see it on the
big screen and so they have full contact If you
like with the racing driver over the whole circuit, which
is quite exciting. The same thing was done up at

(02:40):
Ashley Forest and that seems to have proved very very successful.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
I know that what you're targeting is the aspirational side
of a young person, maybe an older person who dreamed
or dreams of being a motor racing driver, but you
still probably need to have some kind of interest from
high profile i'll drivers, any high profile people you can
tell us about.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
We do have international drivers. We do have Hayden pattern
involved in the event. What vehicle he may be racing
and we're not quite sure yet, but that's yet to
be confirmed. International high profile drivers obviously through their careers
have huge commitments to the company's sponsorship support that they
have to make that possible, and their commitments overseas take priority.

(03:30):
But we'd like to think that we will get some
involvement from some well known names prior to the event.
In fact, actually Leslie were considering I didn't know whether
you heard of the stag in top gear that we're
possibly thinking of getting you to dress up as a

(03:51):
stag and having a race around the train itself.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
Oh my goodness, me look It's amazing, isn't it, Because look,
you're only a month away.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
I know, I know, it's a little bit of a well,
we've seen that we've put a lot of effort into this.
We've been planning it for probably close to a year now.
Licenses all ticked off, everything else like that, so it's
been we've been very busy. There's a lot of people
involved in the organization, which is great. So yeah, yeah,
we're fairly confident that it's going to be a great day.
We're just going to hopefully we're going to get reasonably

(04:21):
good weather, but we're hoping for a fun day, fun
couple of days. We've got have a fully caterd day
at the cas with.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
Your other director, Stephen Moser Rust. This is fantastic, This
is really cool things for christ.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
We're really we're really excited about it. We really are.
I mean, it's it's something that we sort of ask
each other why hasn't been done before? With the effort
we've both put into getting it to the stage, we
can probably understand why. But but it'd have to say
that all the various groups, agencies and particularly the council

(04:58):
have been very supportive. Mark Peter's the local counselor for
the area. He's been fantastic and so the council stuff.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
Oh that's great. Look, just as we're coming to the
end of our conversation, you've had some hot news.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
Yes, we've just been confirmed that Road and Cars are
the main sponsors of the event. And for those who
don't know, Roading Cars are very heavily involved in the
development of high performance racing cars based at Mount Lyiford
and so in the North Canterbury area and that's really exciting.

(05:34):
So that's a great company to be associated with them, Yes,
and has there a support We'll keep you posted in
to any further developments in this particular area.

Speaker 1 (05:44):
Oh fantastic. That is a big relief, isn't it, getting
a big backer like that.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
That's dead right, you know that's great.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
Tim Lonsdale, thank you so much. This is just such
a special thing. I mean, we won't be on air
when it happens, but will certainly the week after we'll
get a little mop up into view with you just
to see how it all panned out for you. But really,
congratulations on what you've done on the work so far.
And yeah, may the best and speediest car win.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
Yes, the whole thing will be televised, by the way,
so there will be an opportunity for people who are
not here to be able to see it at a
later date, hopefully. For more from News Talks B listen
