It’s a massive game for the Tactix as they head north to face the Mystics.

This final round robin clash will determine the final placings in the ANZ Championship, and both teams are in the running for the top spot.

The Tactix need to beat the Mystics by six goals or more to secure spot and grand final hosting rights.

Star defender Karin Burger joined Nick Bewley for a chat ahead of their trip north.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Karen. First things, first final round of the regular season,
all at stake, the top seed. I know you probably
wish you had the secured before now, but how good
to be playing for something like this in the last round.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Yeah, I think we've been in the past. We've had
opportunities to get to this point where we've never really
executed it properly. So hopefully this last game we can
actually secure that top of the table. Would be amazing
to give our crowd to that home final, but good
to know that we do have a lifeline and having
that home semi if things don't go ourway this weekend,

(00:31):
so exciting times for us.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
What did you take most out of Monday night when
you had another look at the film that went over
the magic.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
Yeah, I think we had a really good first half,
and you know, going into our changing rooms, we got told,
you know, all our stats are looking green. We're doing
really well. But our aim for the second half was
to be consistent and keep doing that, which we didn't
do and we're trying to aim for a finals performance
and that wasn't good enough. So we'll work on that
for this week and hopefully we can fix some of
those things in this last.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
Game as a defensive unit. No, you're and jam with
a lot of gains, deflections and to scept you've got
to be pretty pleased with where you're at as a collective.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
Yeah, I know, they're always so defenseman's games, So we
just have to work outur butts off to try and
get our attackers on ball, but they have to score
it in the end. I don't want to be an attacker.
I'll give them their job to them, so as much
as we get the ball, we rely heavily on them
being able to score it for us. So definitely a
team effort. But at the end of the day, we
can't get them ball. I guess it's not going to

(01:28):
put us in a good position. So very happy with
what we're doing at the moment, but I feel like
we can still get some clean ball. I think we're
getting lots of hand to ball and we're creating some
opposition era, but I feel like we could potentially hunt
a little bit more.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
The Mistakes have been on a roll since you beat
them in late May. What makes them such a difficult assignment?

Speaker 2 (01:45):
Yeah, obviously been a while since we've played them. They've
come a long while. They've got Dennell back as well
in their group, which we didn't have when we played
them last time. So I think both of us have
developed over the last few games. So as much as
they have had added some things to their game, we
also have done that. So fresh start for us. I
think we have to do our analysis really well, but

(02:06):
I think the key focus is on us doing our
job really well because I'm confident with our team that
if we play the way we can play, we'll be
able to take this game. So yeah, just focusing on
the one percenters that we need to do really well.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
Just last week from a year alluded to it before,
but the prospect of a home final when you look
back over ains it Premiership, Angey Championship. I think if
you even go back to National Bank Cup days, christ
Church hasn't hosted a decider. What would it mean to
have the big dance here in front of your people.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
Yeah, we have an amazing support system behind us. Kennerbury
has always been backing us, regardless of we we've been
on the table or what we've been playing like. They've
really always had our backs and so to be able
to know that we have this opportunity to give back
to them be able to play such amazing game in
front of a home crowd. At the end of the day,
if you don't show up on the day and you
don't play well, you're not going to win a game.

(02:54):
But being able to say we can play that in
front of a home crowd and having that eight to
play and then backing us in US, it's our way
of trying to give back to them. I think it
was very exciting. For more from News Talk st B.
