Speaker 1 (00:00):
Nick Hyde. First, wal tell us a little bit about
your background.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
I'm born and bred up in North Canterbury. We've got
a family farm up in Parnassas. Played all my junior
rugby for Chiviot before we became Chivik glen Mark and
then managed to head away for school and played away.

Speaker 3 (00:13):
But now I'm back home at glee Mark again.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
So I've played in christ Church for a quite a
few years at Husky Old Boys before heading up north
for a bit of rugby and then we managed to
head over to Ozzie and then to Hong Kong and
back home in the country. Played for Northland in twenty nineteen. Yeah,
howib a place to live definitely the winter that north.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
So how has country rugby set you up to play
NPC and maybe more in the future.

Speaker 3 (00:36):
I don't really know.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
I think it's a little bit of age has come
as well, and I probably not stressed so much about
what I'm teams. I'm trying to make and just enjoying
my footy and I love playing at home in the
country and maybe played a bit of good footy, yeah,
in front of the right people at times, and you're
just enjoying playing footy.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
Again and congratulations on that club one too. Another notch
on the belt? Is it that? What for thirty eighth
one or thirty ninth one, Glenn.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
MARCHI that's our third one for North Canbury in the
in the row and I think it's the second year
have held the Dean Shield again in a row.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
But yeah, unfortunately we fell. We lost a semi.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
Final in the combined against eshburd and Celtic team. But no,
we came together well and yeah, had a great final
against Ashley a couple of weeks ago.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
And how do you find your brother coaching the team?

Speaker 3 (01:19):
Yeah, it's awesome.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
Me and my brother very close. We've always got on
very well. We're pretty tight family. And it was actually
I actually approached him about coming out to coach us
two seasons ago. We're going through a bit of a
coach as had finished up and we were looking for
someone new and Jack had done a bit of coaching
at High Schoot Old Boys with the Light Beers and
this could be a good opportunity to get him out

(01:41):
and he was sort of he wasn't playing as much
as what he used to, so it was Aye gave
McCall and said, well, how about this, you come out
and coach us and no, it's been great for our club.
He's got a very relaxed manner and just flows on
without a very good shit and everyone's happy and the
boys love him for n PC.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
And last week, what did you make of last week?

Speaker 2 (02:00):
It was definitely definitely a lot faster than might have
been playing for the last week, but probably lucky that
I'd had a bit of a pre season with Canterbury,
because otherwise it could have been a pretty good lungbuster.
But no, I just loved being out there and I
got thirty minutes and yeah, just hook into it and
enjoy it.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
So what are your key roles when you because you're
starting this week against the mighty Auckland.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
I mean, first and foremost, just nailing my set piece,
you know, heading my line at scrum time, and then
just making sure I nail my maps and then you know,
if I can, I've done my homework on that. So
as long as I can nail that, I think the
rist shoul hopefully take care of itself and then just
be physical and hock into them.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
And of course you mentioned the word You've got to
enjoy it, right, You've got to have fun. You've got
to enjoy it and not get too caught up.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
Yeah, definitely, you've got to. I mean, you play rugby
for fun. It's a great sport. It's a great way
of meeting people and a great way for people to travel.
And no, you've got to enjoy playing footy because there's
a a's the camaraderie comes with it, and you can
enjoy each other's company after the game and have a
cold power ad or a cold beer if it's a
good win, and you just enjoy.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
It and you want to take you or rugby all
the way.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
Well, I'm getting a bit longer in the tooth now,
to be fair, So I'm just just grateful befo what
ever comes us. Yeah, I'll hopefully get another couple of
runs here, and who knows what will happen, But I'm
just going to enjoy playing footy, and yeah, let it
take care of itself.

Speaker 3 (03:23):
As something else comes up, we'll roll with it. I
know there's always been a bit of a.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
Persona that country rugby isn't as strong as town and
that you've got to play in town to sort of
make Canterbury or Canary b or whatever it may be.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
But yeah, there's definitely a lot of good.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
Players now coming through the country grades and that you know,
the combined competition is there's a lot of good rugby
at the top teams. Anyone can beat anyone and some
of the town rugby is probably a bit faster, but
there's definitely a very good physical battle out in the
country and there's definitely players out coming through the country
grades these days, which which is good to see.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
It is good to see, well all the very best
against Aorkland go really well and.

Speaker 3 (03:57):
Thank you very much.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
I don't think it gets I remember being a young
fella and someone will has told me when you're out
beating Auckland at home, it.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
Is better than anything. So hopefully we'll get into them
and enjoy that.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
