Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's Swayze now driven up. Don't stop dreaming, travels beautifully
rising behind. Then came Merlin, third quarters twenty six point seven. Swazy,
the gloves are off next us. Don't stop dreaming. Merlin
now under that clear better clips is running on wider Swazy,
he's a neck in front that little don't stop draming
is going turner, don't stop traming the inside, put a
(00:23):
noose in front. Swayzey's trying to fight back. He's on
the campus.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
The autty jump.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
He's done again, Swazy, enormous pigs home, don't stop dreaming.
Fairly proceed a normal Republican Party. Then came Franker.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
Yes, that was all the action from the New Zealand
trotting Cup last year. Swayze doing the double twenty three,
twenty four, and you heard right at the end of
that commentary Republican Party and driving Republican Party again this
year is twenty one year old. He is just an
amazing driver, Carter del Gitti, and he joins us. Good morning,
Carter Borning Lesley. Well, that was last That was so exciting,
(01:01):
just the way that Swayzey came through. I didn't think
he was going to make it, but he did in
the end. And so what do you make of the
field for this year's New Zealand Trotting Cup.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
Yeah, that's right, swaysy. He's been too good for us
the last couple of years. Arms meant to come for
a three peat this year, but he just got pulled
out late and we've got two other Aussie champions coming
over to take us on. So it's probably a tougher
field this year than last year, but it's always good
to have a bigger challenge.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
Who are those ossie horses?
Speaker 2 (01:33):
The favorite of the race is called Leap to Fame.
He's probably one of the best horses harness horses we've
ever seen in this part of the world. And another
one is a newcomer called Kingman. So yeah, they're going
to be very tough.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
So what do they bring? I mean what are they just?
Is it the way that the driver executes the race
or is it the horse itself.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
Yeah, Well they've got a couple of challenges ahead of them. Obviously,
the New Zealand Cups are standing start and then Australia
they just a majority of the mobile start, so that's
a new challenge for them. The drivers, the Australian drivers
are generally very aggressive compared to our Kiwe drivers, so yes,
it's a pretty good rivalry. They bring a lot of
(02:15):
snack talk as well, so it's pretty good fun on
off the track.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
Oh my goodness, that sounds amazing. Pretty you haven't got
a recorder out there?
Speaker 2 (02:24):
Yeah, exactly. There's a lot that goes on there that
you watch. The reframe goes unseen. So it's pretty competitive stuff.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
Oh yeah, so talk to us about Republican Party.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
This is his third year as third cracket the New
Zealand Cup. He's a six year old now, which is
probably coming into his peak. He's had an amazing preparation
this time and he's won his last three races in
a row very convincingly, and he looks to be the
pick of the New Zealand one. So he's sort of
going into this race and Korea BA form and it's
(03:01):
probably his time to shine. I'm hoping. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
Well, I mean, are you at the stage where you
don't want to talk him up too much? Or I
mean what I always find when we talk to whether
it's jockeys for thoroughbreed racing or harness drivers, they don't
want to say too much.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Well, yeah, you spot on. Really it would be easier
if the horses could talk, but we don't really know
how they're feeling. But if they have a good preparation
going into this race. Just because it's over two miles
three thy two hundred, it's very far, so it sorts
a lot of them out in the last couple of
(03:36):
hundred meters. But Republican Party's very proven over the long distance,
so I'm lucky I can go on with quite a
bit of confidence.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
Well that's good to hear. Actually, and your dad's the trainer.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Yes, my dad's a trainer. He brought this horse to
the yelling as a one year old, so he's prepped
him the whole way through his career. And to get
this race would be something incredible.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
Do we know who the owners of Republican Party.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
He has quite a big syndicate in him. He would
probably have about or twelve to fifteen owners in him,
which is absolutely brilliant because it just shares the fun
around And yeah, I know they have a hell of
a time traveling around with them.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
Oh well, we just wish you all the very best.
I mean, at twenty one you're.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
Pretty young, Yeah, pretty young. Yeah, everything's come pretty quick
in the sport, but you got to take your opportunities
and hopefully you can be the youngest to win.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
It, do you Yeah, would that be a record?
Speaker 2 (04:34):
I think it would be maybe my uncle Anthony, but
he might have gone close, but I'd say I'd be
knocking on the door all right.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
Oh look, we are definitely behind you, Carter dal giddy
and wish you all the very best with Republican Party
and it's going to be a brilliant day. We just
love New Zealand Cup and show week and we're really
grateful that you've come to the phone this morning just
to chat us a little bit about the big race itself.
Speaker 2 (04:58):
Yeah. Thanks so that. It's going to be a hell
of a day and hopefully I can get on for
the locals. The Aussies have had us the last couple
of years, but we want to get them back here.
Speaker 3 (05:05):
We sently do. Thank you so much, Go well, stay safe.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
