Speaker 1 (00:00):
Bu stork SeeDB twenty one away from nine o'clock in
an association with the Onward Trading Company. Let's go to
our golf and Blear Minton joins us from Canterbury Golf. Blair,
Good morning, good morning, how are you very good? Well,
some exciting news coming out about the Canterbury stroke Play Championship.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Yes, that's right here. We're very excited to announce a
format provision returning to a seventy two whole championship format.
That's the first time we go at four rounds since
the twenty seventeen event at Waitakiri, So yeah, really excited about.
Historically was a four rounder that's been in a fifty
four holemets for some years now, so we're excited to
(00:37):
return to that for the local ambitious players.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
So how did you come to the change. Did you
have feedback from.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
The players or absolutely so. We had a little bit
of feelers at last year's event and then we went
out with some tuvos to all the players that have
played the recent events just to get a bit of
a sense on this is something that's anthetite for and
it wasn't overwhelming yes for those players. Was looked at
the model and the feedback, and there's a few refinements
(01:04):
around the massive space in the Lady Space stool preferring
a fifty four hole format, so we have to offer
that within the event. But the men's Open Championship format
there there was a strong desire atsun two whole, so
we've listened to that and we're really excited to be
returning to that well done.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
So how does it compete with other national events?
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Yeah, it's definitely up there in terms of district delivered
stroke play events. There's no other South Island district stroke
event that's four round format, so it's the clinical event
already in the South Island and we've got some sort
of I guess bold ambitions with this event to make
it the best district stroke play delivered the events in
New Zealand, so there's only spellers in an environment of
(01:42):
the four round status as well, So yeah, it's fairly
high up there and still maintains all those ikey S
lucrative intendives for in terms of World Amateur ranking points
in New Zealand, Golf Wader Amerit and Henry Golf Order
Emerits status as well, and also maintains in New Zealand's
and the final qualifying event status. So yeah, they's cleaning
the play for those that are within there, as onside
(02:02):
those sort of swarft of Kennedy strokeplay titles themselves.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
So I guess it gives you more commercial opportunities too.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
Yeah, absolutely, it's something we were looking to do around
expending not only I guess the format of that championship format,
but also gives a use more opportunities to bring on
naming and responses to which we've done and we'll be
able to invent a couple of those and weeks to come.
So there's some opportunities there for a bigger event and
some of the issues we've introduced their own live scoring
(02:30):
and websites and different pieces around the event will give
massive exposure to those the new partners. So yeah, there's
some reallyical opportunities there as well.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
Fantastic So you've got a big refle coming out too,
tell us about that.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
Yeah, that's something we're very excited about. Ken We just
launched teen days ago the Ultimate Golf Raffle, so big,
big prizes. There's two thousand tickets total on offer, about
one hundred thousand dollars worth of prizes, But the main
prizes are fifty k International golf experience of off your choosing.
And so when I say that, think about things like
(03:02):
going to Augusta's and going to the Masters, or if preferred,
maybe teeking up at s and Andrews de Old Course
in Scotland or yeah, the wheel Chairroyster. You could tailor
a trip to Japan or Australia or wherever it may be.
So that's that's the top prize there and then fourteen
other golf a load of prizes below that. So talking
about fittings with some of our great partners, golf retail
(03:23):
partners being the likes of the clubroom, the golf Warehouse,
the Super Bob Charles Gold Center, so fitting and club
packages were for around eight k each, clear order memberships,
thousand dollars worth of coaching all the way down. So
there's the multiple prizes amongst at fifteen. But yeah, that's
fifty k international Gold experience off you were choosing at
(03:45):
the top. As a big carrot.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
This seems to be such a big prize pack. I mean,
I don't think I've ever heard anything like this before
for any sport.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
No, I've definitely sprung for the senses with this one.
It's it's pretty exciting. Yeah, it's definitely out there. There's
obviously a lot of opportunity for us if we can
make it successful, as long as we can kind of
get the support from both the Canonbury golfing communities, Canterbury
Sporting Community, Coal Stop and obviously those around the Zealand
as well. So yes, there's plenty of coportunity, is there.
All the details are on our on our website Canary Golf. Yeah,
(04:17):
you go to that website, you'll see the main ultimate
cold Rector button. We'll produce that. I'm proud of the
front there and yeah, one hundred dollars for the tickets,
but there's some pretty big opportunities there in two thousand
tickets total. So yeah, better odds than we're going to
get for Lotto tonight. But if you're a cool fan,
it's yeah, it's pretty exciting.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
Yeah, exactly, somebody's been very generous for you anyway. Can
you win more than one prize with one ticket?
Speaker 2 (04:41):
Yes, you can. So the way that refle works is
really ticket's got equal chance of winning each prize, So
you buy a ticket, you're in the drawer for all
those fifteen and obviously, yeah you buy more than one ticket,
you've got good rods as well. So there's a few
people that have already done that, so we would encourage
peld to get out there and buy the tickets before
thought they're all gone. It also goes to a great course.
(05:02):
All all the proceeds for the Raffle will help Canary
Golf and it's terrible activities to grow and strengthen the
game across Cannonburham have obviously got many initiatives that we've
discussed my past with me around participation and club and
all the rest of it. So all the funds go
back into the US Kennary Golf activity to grow the game.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
Oh fantastic, Well good on you. And that's pretty innovative,
isn't it. You've got a lot of work to do
to get it underway. But I'm sure the luk at
what I was going to say, the Luke at the
lucrative prizes people are just going to be in I think,
just don't think there's any doubt about that.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
Got to be into it open. Yeah, I would love
to see her in the between here and support. The
initiatives are all means we will go to the the
Canery website and find that refor information and.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
Yeah, yeah, well fantastic. Who ever put this together, who
is ever idea it was, and those who have helped
with getting those prizes just brilliant. We wish you all
the very best with that layer fantastic and thanks for
coming on and giving us the news no worry. Thanks
and the stroke play as well. Awesome. For more from
