Nationwide police shortages continue, as violent crime in major cities has become a front-page issue. This past week New York City Police officer Jonathan Diller was shot and killed on duty by a repeat offender, highlighting the issue of recidivism in criminal justice. Pittsburgh is one of the cities that has had to make department-wide shifts due to a drop in officers, losing nearly 250 employees since 2020.
