Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, good morning, Welcome to the David Chadwick Show. David
will be on sabbatical for the entire month of July,
so for the next four Sundays, some encore presentations, some
of the very best of David Chadwick.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Harvery one.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
I'm David Chadwick and this is News Talk eleven ten
ninety nine three WWT.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Welcome to the show.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
In case you don't know, this is a faith and
values program that tries to intersect faith and values with
different issues and needs in the culture locally and globally.
Also thanks to Perry's Fine Jewelry for your sponsorship of
the show. Well, I have a special show for you today.
I have with me Ryan Carson, who just happens to
be my son in law married to my wonderful daughter Bethany,

(00:49):
and he has come up with a plan, strategy, and
offering called the Story of God. Its purpose is to
help people know the Bible from Genesis through and see
the storyline that exists throughout the entire Bible. And once
you see that thread that exists from Genesis through Revelation,
it's a story that takes on so much more meaning

(01:11):
than ever before. So Ryan Carson thank you for being
with me today.

Speaker 4 (01:15):
Thank you so much, David. We are so excited to
be with you.

Speaker 3 (01:19):
Well, let's talk about what is the story of God?
Talk with us about the general purpose of this wonderful
curriculum that you have put together.

Speaker 4 (01:27):
Yeah, it's a curriculum, or it's a book, or it's
a project. I don't know exactly what category to put
it in, but I do know that I walked into
your living room almost thirteen years ago and I said,
I have an idea, I have a plan, and I
presented it to you and he said, this is really cool,
but I would just make one change. And then you
offered your advice and I took it. And so I

(01:49):
have been working on this off and on for over
a decade and been sharing it with people. It's been
really really encouraging. But the Story of God, if I
were to give you a one sentence definition, I would
say it is a comprehensive Bible overview that uses twenty
timeline events to teach the basic framework of the Bible

(02:10):
and reveal Jesus as the hero of the entire thing.
In every part he is revealed, he is the hero.
And you know we are meant to see the Bible
that way and see Him that way.

Speaker 3 (02:21):
Well, it's a storyline again, and it all fits together
from beginning to end. The central focus of the story
is Jesus and his gift of salvation, the gift of
eternal life to his people.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
I've often divided the Bible.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
Into four parts, if you will, creation, Fall, Redemption, and restoration,
and I know you believe those four acts are there
as well, but it's so much more in what you're
doing with the story of God.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
Yeah, so those are the four basic ones. I think
this would just probably put a little more meat behind
each of those and break it down into the significant
moments that take place in scripture. So we say all
the time, the Bible is not a history book. The
Bible is not a rule book. The Bible is not
a textbook. It is, primarily, at its heart, it's a story.

(03:11):
And oftentimes the way that you approach the Bible is
the way that you will experience God. And so I
love the idea of approaching God as not only the
author of the story, but the hero of the story.
It makes you long to know him and hear from
him and be a part of what he's doing in
the earth. So I just love the idea of the
story of God.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
You have as one of your emphases in describing the
story of God, the King and his kingdom, and of
course Jesus is the king and the kingdom is first
of all, I think Eden established in Genesis one and two,
then Genesis three the fall and how that beautiful paradise,
that beautiful kingdom is corrupted. And then we have the

(03:54):
call of Abraham before nation of Israel, the coming of
Jesus into the world, his death on the cross, his
resurme from the dead, which we celebrated last Sunday, his
ascension into heaven as being the re establishment of that
kingdom here on earth, movements toward the way God originally
intended it to be, but not totally perfected until He
comes back again.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
Is that what you're saying?

Speaker 4 (04:16):
Yes, I mean, when I look at the life of
Jesus and even the Old Testament text, this concept, this
idea of the kingdom that was lost in Eden and
then physically brought into existence in the Old Testament. But
then Jesus comes spiritually and says, hey, I've arrived. Even
before his death and resurrection, he says, I've arrived and

(04:37):
the Kingdom is at hand. And what I see all
through the gospels is Jesus declares the Kingdom. He goes
from city to city, town to town, and he declares
the Gospel of the Kingdom, and then he demonstrates the kingdom.
I think this is his mo for ministry is declare
the Kingdom, demonstrate the Kingdom. And that's what he did,
and that's what the early Church did as well. So

(04:59):
this idea, this concept of the kingdom, is all throughout
the scripture, and he is the king of that kingdom.
Jesus is the king. Before he is Lord or Master
or Savior.

Speaker 5 (05:09):
He is king.

Speaker 4 (05:10):
All these other rules are right and true, but they
all flow from this idea of Jesus is a king.

Speaker 3 (05:17):
And we believe that Adam gave controlled dominion of this
world to Satan in that temptation in the Garden of
Eden in Genesis three. And then we look at Revelation five,
and there's this question in heaven, who is worthy to
reclaim ownership of the world, to take that scroll and
to break the seals that are necessary to reclaim the

(05:38):
ownership of the world. And that's where we sing that
song A lot in our church, Moments of Hope Church,
but I know others do as well. Is who is worthy,
It's cried out worthy as the lamb. Worthy is Jesus,
who came and died and was raised from the dead.
He is worthy to reclaim those keys of the kingdom,
ownership of this world has God intended us to have
with Jesus being the king of that kingdom. Now, people

(06:00):
are interested in knowing more about the story of God,
and we'll unfold it in our next segments. But if
they want to know more about the story of God,
where should they go? Yeah, so we have a website.

Speaker 4 (06:08):
The company that is the umbrella over the story of
God is called Glory Days, and so our website is
Glory Days dot Life. That's li Fe Glory Days dot Life,
and all the information that you would need is right
there on that website.

Speaker 3 (06:25):
Well, when we come back from the break, let's hear
a few testimonies of people, because the deal that we
are trying to accomplish today, folks, is you've got to
develop a biblical worldview. If you don't have a biblical worldview,
you have a humanistic worldview, you have a secular worldview.
What's informing what you believe is the secular ideology that's
surrounding you. But when you have a biblical worldview, the

(06:46):
Bible informs your understanding of truth. That's what makes you
live as you live. And the author of that truth
is Jesus, who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life,
and he's the one who allows us to come to
the Father in his Kingdomavid Chadwick, This is News Talk eleven,
ten ninety nine three WBT. Ryan will give a few
testimonies about his Story of God work in just a moment.

Speaker 6 (07:42):
Blissen over my soul? O my soul? Wisit his whole name?

Speaker 3 (07:53):
How? Everyone? I'm David Chadwick and this is News Talk eleven,
ten ninety nine three WBT.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
Welcome back to the show.

Speaker 3 (07:59):
I have with me as my guest today, Ryan Carson,
who works with me on staff at Moments of Hope Church.
I'm even more proud of the fact that he's my
son in law, married to my beautiful daughter Bethany, and
the father of their five children, five of my grandchildren.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
Such a wonderful person and it's great to have you
on the show. Ryan.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
You have authored something called the Story of God and
we talked about it in the first segment. For those
who want to hear it, they can go listen to
it again by going to WBT dot com and scroll
down on the weekend shows and hearing this from beginning
to end. But what I want to ask you now
is you have some testimonies of those who've developed a
biblical worldview who now look at life through the lenses

(08:37):
of the scripture. Would you talk about some of those testimonies.

Speaker 4 (08:40):
Absolutely, we have just been so blessed to be able
to offer the story of God in the early stages
of its release to a number of people. But we've
also had such a great time doing different workshops here
at Moments of Hope and other places as well. And
so as we have sat with groups of forty or
sixty and we've got on through this entire curriculum together

(09:02):
over a period of five or six weeks. We have watched,
whether it's a middle schooler, high schooler, young adult you know,
and any type of adult you know, ranging in age
all the way up to ninety nine years old, they
are walking away from this curriculum, this project, and they're
just saying, light bulbs are turning on all over the place.

(09:24):
I never saw it like that before. I'll read you
a couple of the workshop participant in testimonies. This one says,
I've been in church my whole life, but this course
revealed how much I didn't know. The story of God
is engaging and accessible for everyone from beginners to scholars.
That's a very encouraging.

Speaker 2 (09:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (09:44):
And in your last one, you had an eleven year old,
and then you did have someone in their eighties. I
think maybe their nineties. I'm not sure exactly how old
they are, but you really did have that age span.

Speaker 5 (09:55):
It was really good.

Speaker 4 (09:56):
And what we tell people is this project is probably
good starting at about the middle school age for the
average child and all the way up through anyone who
has been studying the Bible their whole life or their
brand new Christian.

Speaker 3 (10:08):
So the novices especially enjoy because they get that skeleton
that they need and then they study the Bible for
the rest of their lives and.

Speaker 2 (10:15):
Put meat on the bones.

Speaker 4 (10:16):
That's exactly right. I'll give you maybe two more testimonies.
This one says, the story of God connects key biblical
events to Jesus and the Kingdom of God. It's engaging,
life changing, and perfect for all ages, and then one more.
This workshop participant said, the story of God deepened my
faith and understanding of Scripture's big picture. A must experience

(10:39):
for anyone seeking to grow. That's really encouraging.

Speaker 3 (10:43):
So again, real quickly, if people are interested right now
and want to know more about this, where do they go?

Speaker 2 (10:48):
What's your website? Yep?

Speaker 5 (10:49):
The website is Glory Days dot life. That's life, So
Glory Days dot Life.

Speaker 3 (10:57):
What's the problem though, Ryan, that you're experiencing with people
in the world. Why was it that you felt like
you needed to do this curriculum to address what problem?

Speaker 5 (11:05):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (11:06):
Well, I think the problem is the fact that we,
and I say we, as a collective American church, Christianity,
whatever you want to call that, we have been teaching
people the stories of the Bible without teaching the Bible
as one unified story. So for example, people would say,
I heard about the flood, and I could probably point

(11:29):
to a children's book that my parents read to me,
and I've seen all the animals and they're all happy
and they're on a bode, and that's not.

Speaker 5 (11:36):
Actually the picture of probably what the flood was.

Speaker 4 (11:40):
Or they've heard the story of the parting of the
Red Sea, or they've heard about Nehemiah, or they've heard
the story of Pentecost, but they don't know how they
all fit together and how they all actually tie into
each other. But more importantly, they don't know how each
one of them actually points to Jesus as the hero.
So it's something that I know I experienced in my

(12:01):
life that I feel like I heard this story. I
heard that story, but I couldn't place it in a
biblical timeline and actually make it make sense. And so
one of the things that I do to try to
pique interest in people when it comes to this project
is I just kind of give them a pop quiz.
And that's not always fun when you get a pop
quiz because it does kind of reveal where you're at.

(12:23):
But throughout workshops or even just conversations, you know, if
you ask the average church going American Christians some questions,
it does reveal that they might not have a grasp
on this. So I'll throw out a couple, you know,
who came first, Abraham or Moses. I've asked that question
and some people kind of look at me, like, I

(12:43):
don't know if I'm totally confident in that answer. But
I guess I got a fifty to fifty chance, and
I can just throw out an answer. You know, when
you ask people the question why did Neamiah have to
rebuild the Wall of Jerusalem? We all know that he
rebuilt the wall. There's been sermon series that are you
know on that, But why did he have to.

Speaker 3 (13:01):
The city's not complete until that wall's built, and there's
a prophecy in Daniel nine about there needing to be
that city completed before the prophecy clock begins of the
four hundred and ninety years.

Speaker 2 (13:11):
Okay, that was my answer. No, that's right, It was
pretty twitter.

Speaker 5 (13:15):
Obviously, you are right about that.

Speaker 4 (13:16):
And then you know, even thinking about after which king
did Israel divide into two kingdoms? A lot of people
look at me as Israel divided into two kingdoms.

Speaker 3 (13:26):
And that's essential to know too for a lot of
future biblical prophecies as well.

Speaker 4 (13:30):
That's exactly right. And then so, I mean, the list
could go on and on. Even asking the question who
were the Canaanites, Well, I would tell you the Canaanites.
Outside of the Israelites, the Jews, the Canaanites are probably
one of the most important people groups in the entire Bible,
they dictate so much of what happened to the nation
of Israel, so we got to know that. And then

(13:50):
obviously there's questions about the different kings of Israel and
which one came first, and you know all these things.
So there's just so many of these questions that I people,
and so most people come away and they say, I
don't know if I'm really confident in this idea of
storyline discipleship. So the Story of God is trying to
provide a solution to that and saying, we cannot depend

(14:13):
on lead pastors and the people that are communicating on
a regular basis, We cannot depend on them for this.
There's got to be a supplement that people can have
access to and pursue, even outside of what they would
regularly be fed on a Sunday morning at their local church.
So there's got to be an initiative that people take
to say, I really want to know this, I want

(14:33):
to understand this, and I have to go after it myself.
So the solution through the Story of God is to
teach people the storyline or what you and I and
David call the framework of the Bible, and teach it
from a Christo centric perspective. That's just a simple way
of saying, having Christ at the center, a Christo centric perspective,
and this will help people connect the dots of scripture.

(14:56):
That is a big part of what the story of
God is trying to do is basically connect the dots
of scripture. So people go, oh, my gosh, this led
to this, led to this, led to this, and now
things are starting to make sense for me as I
read the Bible.

Speaker 2 (15:11):
Well, we are of the Protestant tradition.

Speaker 3 (15:13):
I would even say the Roman Catholics need this as well,
an understanding of the word. But we Protestants say, Sola
scripture all the time. The Scripture alone is our only
infallible rule of faith in practice. Well, dear friends, if
you believe that, and I think once you know the storyline,
you can also see the principles that undergird the story
by which we're supposed to live under the old Covenant

(15:35):
with the Jews, of course, then erased and replaced with
a new Covenant of the heart. But still the obedience
to a moral law is called by God upon us
so that we'll know what to do. And biblical literacy
is a real problem in our culture today.

Speaker 4 (15:49):
It is such a problem, and you know, the most
well intentioned, amazing people who have been going to church
for twenty years, thirty years, forty years, there's still this
storyline discipleship that most people just haven't gotten and so.

Speaker 3 (16:03):
Need to get it early on. Yes, I think very life,
that'll help you the most.

Speaker 4 (16:08):
Very much so. But this this biblical illiteracy. And I
don't think we say that in a way to look
down on people, but just to say, most people just
haven't gotten this. So we need to educate, you know,
everybody on what scripture says, because parents and teachers and
coaches and leaders need to be equipped with this so
that they can actually pass a working knowledge of the

(16:28):
Bible down to the next generation. I mean, it's just
so so imperative. And the time is now. Our world
is going crazy, there is and it's almost like the
time of the Judges again.

Speaker 2 (16:37):
Where everybody's doing what's right in their own eyes.

Speaker 4 (16:41):
And there was no king, and so we need to
see Jesus as that king, and that means he is
the authority. He is all authority. Yes, he is the leader.
We submit to him joyfully gladly because his kingship. His
reign is good in our lives, and he will always
take care of us. But we need to submit to
what he says and who he is and watch how

(17:01):
our lives will be completely impacted by that.

Speaker 3 (17:03):
Well, and I think everybody needs to ask the question,
do you believe that book and in the Protestant tradition
sixty six books in the Roman Catholic tradition with the
Judo canonical book seventy three, but I think there's reasons
to believe it's sixty six Another subject for another time.
But whether you believe either one of those, how can
you live a faithful life following Jesus unless you know

(17:24):
the book and we believe that God authored that book.
You know that there are forty different authors who wrote
the book over fifteen hundred years, on three different continents,
in three different languages, and the authors were anyone from
a king to a shepherd. And yet all of the
different books written over fifteen hundred years in those three
different language by all the different authors comes up with

(17:46):
one major theme, and that's Jesus, the King of the Kingdom,
to come and make this world right again one day
Book of Revelation. So you've got to know that and
understand that if you're going to be able to faithfully
follow the King of the Kingdom.

Speaker 5 (17:57):
That's right, That's exactly right.

Speaker 4 (17:58):
So there is just there's so much, there is such
an urgent need for this, and we are so excited
about the project.

Speaker 3 (18:05):
Ryan, let's come back and talk some more about the
story of God. I'm David Chadwick, will be right back. Hi, everyone,

(18:47):
I'm David Chadwick. Welcome back to the show. And if
you'd like to hear this program with my friend and
indeed son in law, Ryan Carson on the story of God,
how the Bible fits together, and how you can get
more information about how to understand and take even this course,
go to WBT dot com, scroll down to the weekend shows,
look for the David Chadwick Show and you can hear
this program from beginning to end with just a few

(19:09):
commercials and allow you to understand what we're trying to
teach today. So Ryan again the website if people are
interested in knowing more about how to take the course
the story of God to understand how it all ties together,
Genesis through revelation, where do they go?

Speaker 4 (19:24):
Yes, So the name of our business is Glory Days
and the website is Glory Days dot Life l I
f E.

Speaker 5 (19:32):
Glory Days dot Life.

Speaker 3 (19:34):
Well, give us another testimony, if you will, of someone
who took the course at Moments of Hope Church where
we work together, and we've offered this now several times
to our people, and each time we offered it, the
class is full with a waiting list. But this last
one is six weeks and it had an eleven year
old in there up to a ninety year old and
all of them thoroughly enjoyed it.

Speaker 2 (19:53):
Give us another testimony.

Speaker 4 (19:54):
Yeah, it's just it's honestly just humbling to see the
responses of how people are writing in and sharing how
this has impacted them. And then also just having my
perspective in the room and doing some teaching and watching
people process through this and just light bulbs going off
after every timeline event and people are going, wow, I
never saw it like that. So I'll read a couple.
This workshop participant said, this course fortified my knowledge of

(20:18):
the biblical history and gave me the confidence to defend
my faith and share God's story.

Speaker 5 (20:25):
I mean, how amazing is that? That's great?

Speaker 4 (20:28):
Another one, this study opened my eyes to how God
uses people, events, and his word to reveal his love
and power. It was truly transformative.

Speaker 2 (20:39):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (20:40):
You know, people ask me all the time, why do
you believe the Bible is the authoritative rule of God,
infallible in every possible way for our areas of faith
and practice. I go to first of all, Okay, forty
different authors, three different continents, three different languages, over fifteen
hundred years, with one single message. And you're telling me
that man wrote it. It's not the whole spirit who

(21:00):
God breathed it and wrote it in his own powerful way.
But you know, Ryan, a week out from the resurrection,
you know why I believe the Bible is the word
of God because I believe Jesus was raised from the dead,
and that proves he's divine, proves hes God. So I
want God's view of the scripture. How did Jesus use
the scripture confronting the evil One in the wilderness with
the temptations not to go to the cross.

Speaker 2 (21:19):
What did Jesus do?

Speaker 3 (21:20):
He said, it is written, it is written. He quoted
the scripture he had depended upon it. When he had
all of these different fallouts with the Pharisees and took
them on in one on one or one on five
or one on ten. What would he always do with them?
It is written he appealed to the written manuscript, and
then he appointed the apostles and said, your words are

(21:42):
my words. Well, if Jesus is God and the resurrection
proves that, that means that they're writing in their apostolic
writing is the Apostolic tradition the very word of God.
So if Jesus is God, which is the resurrection proves
last week's experience, then we know the Old Testament's true
because he quoted from it as God. And a New
Testament's true because he appointed the apostles to write it

(22:03):
and he is God himself.

Speaker 5 (22:04):
One hundred percent.

Speaker 4 (22:05):
And this is actually one of the reasons that in John,
the Gospel of John, Jesus is confronting the Pharisees and
he says, you think you know the scriptures, and obviously
they did, they had to memorize, but he said, but
you won't come to me that you might have fine life.
So basically you don't actually know the scripture. So if
you think you know the Bible, but it doesn't lead

(22:26):
to a relationship with Jesus or you don't even see
him as a central figure of all of scripture. You
are missing something very much needed for you to understand
the Bible. So Jesus said it with his own words.

Speaker 3 (22:37):
Well, the Holy Spirit lives inside those who believe in Jesus.
And you can't read the Scripture and truly understand its
spiritual and eternal significance without the Holy Spirit revealing to
you that truth. And that's why again Protestants cling to
the solo scriptura idea. And we have Catholic critics and
others who say as well, but you've got multiple different
interpretations of the text, and we go no, if you
really get Christians together and they are submitted to the

(23:00):
Holy Spirit's understanding of that particular text, they throw what's
going to call the perspiscuity of scripture.

Speaker 2 (23:06):
The clarity of scripture.

Speaker 3 (23:07):
Will come up with the same general meaning. There might
be two percent of the Bible that we have some
differences all, but the ninety eight percent of doctrinal truth
in the Bible is agreed upon by the whole Christian Church.

Speaker 4 (23:18):
That's exactly right. And this last testimony, I mean, this
is the one that really grips my heart. This workshop
participant said, each week, or you could even say each
timeline event brought new excitement and a deeper understanding of
the greatest story ever written. This workshop is a key
to unlocking hearts for Jesus. I love that this person

(23:39):
said the greatest story ever written, because honestly, every story
is actually taking cues from the greatest story. Or some
people say every narrative is based off the meta narrative
of scripture. That the Bible and scripture and how Jesus
is the King. It is the basis for every good
story that exists in the world, and it is the
meta narrative. So we got to know the meta narrative

(24:03):
if we're going to make sense of any other story,
because every other story finds its identity in the main.

Speaker 3 (24:08):
There's the hero and the anti hero, and the battle
that goes on and the hero wins, the good guy does,
and then the lessons we learn from that. I mean,
that really is the same kind of message that's in
the Bible as well, and I just think it's fascinating
to begin to understand that as we read the scripture
and understand the scriptures, but then mostly make it applicable
in our lives. As we seek truth through a biblical worldviews.

(24:32):
You wanted me to mention about the objectives of the project.
What are they?

Speaker 4 (24:36):
Yeah, So I came up with four objectives for the
story of God that I think will help everybody understand,
you know, the purpose of why this was written and
what we're trying to do with it. So let me
just go through those really quickly and we can chat
about those. But the first objective that we had is
we want you and that's the general audience, anyone who's

(24:56):
taking it. We want you to understand the Bible as well,
one unified story that points to Jesus as the hero.
I think we have you know, shared that point enough,
I'll go on to the second one. The second one
is this, we want you to gain a deeper understanding
of the Bible so that you can know God. This
project is meant to reveal the nature and character of God,

(25:20):
especially as it is revealed through Jesus. He is the ultimate,
you know, impression of God is he is an exact
imprint of His nature Hebrews one three. But we want
people to understand the Bible so they can know God.
It's not enough just to know the Bible. The Bible
is unbelievable. But if the Bible doesn't lead you into
a relationship with God, it's not actually helping you. So

(25:43):
we don't just want people to become biblical scholars when
they go through the project. We want people to get
a glimpse of Jesus. We want them to get a
glimpse of the Father, his nature, his character, his love,
his devotion. The Bible says that God is the same yesterday, today,
and forever. And I think it's something that we're trying
to come against people saying, well, the Old Testament God
was angry and the New Testament God is nice.

Speaker 5 (26:04):
No, no, no.

Speaker 4 (26:05):
The thread of grace, the threat of mercy, the thread
of judgment, the thread of expecting and demanding obedience from
human beings. This is from Genesis to Revelation. This isn't
like God changes his personality or his character when we
switch from.

Speaker 5 (26:22):
Malachi to Matthew. It's just not that.

Speaker 4 (26:24):
So we want people to know the scripture so they
can develop this personal relationship with God through the person
in the work of Jesus, through the power of the
Holy Spirit, so that they can know the unconditional.

Speaker 5 (26:36):
Love of the Father.

Speaker 2 (26:37):
And what's number three.

Speaker 4 (26:38):
Number three, We want everyone to have the tools needed
to impact the next generation. As I read scripture, I
see that God is a generational god. He even names himself,
I'm the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He says,
I'm a generational God, and I always see a deep
concern for the next generation.

Speaker 3 (26:57):
And when he gives them the land, he says, I'm
doing this because of the covenant I made with Abraham
four hundred plus years ago.

Speaker 5 (27:04):
Exactly right.

Speaker 4 (27:05):
So that's number three, And then the last one is this.
We want everyone to realize the role that they play
in God's story right now. So just really quickly, I
will say this, the canon of scripture is closed. We
will never add or take anything away from the scripture.
But even though the canon is closed, somehow, some way,
the story is still being written today and we are

(27:28):
currently in the timeline event known as the Church in
the story of God. It's number eighteen of the twenty
and we are in this timeline event, and that means
that it is the church's time to rise up and
take their place and be ambassadors of the King and
his kingdom. And every single person needs to play their
role in that story.

Speaker 3 (27:49):
It is a way of saying that your story can
be found in God's story.

Speaker 2 (27:54):
That's exactly. And even though I.

Speaker 3 (27:55):
Think you could make an issue of King David, like
with Goliath, is a symbol of Jesus taking all the
forces of darkness and overcoming them. But I think you
can say at some level, we all face goliaths in life,
and when we, with the strength of faith, overcome those goliaths,
we find ourselves in the story of David and Goliath.

Speaker 2 (28:13):
Is that true? Yeah.

Speaker 4 (28:14):
I think that there's glimmers all throughout the Old Testament
that are pointing to Jesus, and that even help us
find our place in the story and say, God wants
to use you powerfully as well, just like He used
these people in the Old Testament, just like he used
Paul or Timothy, or Silas or Barnabas, whoever it is.
God wants to use you in a powerful way. You're
here for a reason, You're here for a purpose. Submit

(28:37):
to Jesus, surrendered to his lordship, be filled with the
Holy Spirit, and do what God has put in your
heart to do to glorify him.

Speaker 2 (28:44):
Find your story in God's story. Take us to the
website again.

Speaker 4 (28:48):
It's www. Dot Glory Days, dot Life.

Speaker 3 (28:51):
And people can go on there and find ways they
could even take the course themselves. You have some videos
and some course work there. Some cost is involved, not
a whole lot, but it's to help people know that
it is available and to phrase your expenses as well.

Speaker 4 (29:04):
Yeah, I can do this very quickly. But essentially there
is an online course that is very significant. There is
a workbook. There's actually timeline event flash cards that help
you put the entire timeline together yourself and practice that.
And there's also a timeline strip that shows you a
visual of how all the dots of scripture are connected together.
And you can see all of this on the website.

Speaker 3 (29:26):
Well, when we come back, we will do with Ryan
an overview of the project the story of God that
I hope will help all of you. Want to say,
I've got to have more because I want to understand
this story.

Speaker 2 (29:38):
I'm David Chadwick, will be right back.

Speaker 6 (30:18):
Dear Jesus, help me to spread your fragrance everywhere.

Speaker 4 (30:26):
That I go.

Speaker 3 (30:28):
Hi, everyone, I'm David Chadwick and this is News Talk eleven,
ten ninety nine three WBT.

Speaker 2 (30:32):
Welcome back to the show, and.

Speaker 3 (30:34):
My guest is my son in law, but also pastor
and friend Ryan Carson, who's developed something called the Story
of God. It's a fabulous tool, folks, I don't want
to overstate that, a fabulous tool for allowing you to
know how the Scripture ties together from Genesis through Revelation,
the timeline and where all the books of the Bible
fit into that timeline. And Ryan, I think it'd be
appropriate during this last segment to do an overview of

(30:56):
the project, help us understand how all the books of
the Bible together.

Speaker 2 (31:00):
In this story.

Speaker 4 (31:01):
Absolutely so. The way that we are going about this
is there is a workbook that contains an overview of
every single timeline event all twenty and it gives you
the information about how the story comes together, and it
also shares with you how each part of the story
points to Jesus as the hero. There are overviews there,

(31:22):
there are assessments in the workbook as well. Another thing
that every person who gets the Story of God receives
is timeline event flash cards. This is individual flash cards
that have the timeline event on them with a beautiful
picture of the icon for that timeline event, and you
can piece them together very very simply, very easily and

(31:42):
basically practice building your own timeline. As I said before,
there's also a timeline strip, But the main thing I
want to point people to is the online course. You
have the ability to go through this entire project at
your own pace. You can do it by yourself, you
could do it with friends, you could do it as
a small group. There's a lot of ways you could
do it. But I think the online course is really
really important. So in the midst of all of these

(32:05):
different aspects, I do want to point out that there
are also hand motions that are involved with each timeline
event that makes it a lot of fun. This project
has really been marketed to all different types of learning styles,
so you know, however you learn best, there's something.

Speaker 5 (32:21):
Here for you.

Speaker 4 (32:22):
Whether you're in sixth grade or ninety nine years old,
you are going to be able to get something out
of the story of God. Another thing to point out
here is that in the workbook and through the teaching
we also point out the five major covenants that are
seeing in scripture, which are basically God's promises to say
this is going to happen, and he keeps his words.
So we track those covenants, but we also track the

(32:45):
different genres in scripture. So genres are very important because
you have to know what you're reading if you're going
to interpret it the right way. We read proverbs differently
than we would read the history books. We read Genesis
differently than we read Revelation. So we have to understand
that the wisdom literature, the history literature, the epistles, the
prophetic literature, the apocalyptic literature, it's all written in a

(33:10):
specific way, and we have to understand that genre. So
we point the genres out as well.

Speaker 3 (33:15):
Because a lot of people criticize litterless of the Bible,
and for me to say I'm a literal it just
means I take the Bible very seriously and I understand
that it's my commitment to it is to try to
understand what it says and to obey what it says,
and to believe that the Bible means what it says
and says what it means, but also that there are
times that there are metaphors, there are similes. I think

(33:37):
the Bible makes it clear that they are metaphors, but
it's also clear there's sometimes language and styles that are
written in the format of that day that will help
us understand it better. And if you did take too
much of a literal approach, metaphor a description of the
kind of beauty that comes when trees are swaying back
and forth and creating that wonderful sound in the wind
that just make us know that God is the source

(33:57):
of life and creating that wind itself. So that's what
you're trying to do, is to help people understand all
those different factors as they study the Bible.

Speaker 5 (34:05):
That's exactly right.

Speaker 4 (34:05):
And if I were to put one word to it,
I would say that this project is helping demystify the Bible.
There are so many people that are walking in and
out of church every week and they're hearing great sermons
and they're experiencing great worship, and then they feel intimidated
to go home and try to read it themselves because
they've never understood the storyline. So I love the confidence

(34:26):
that is being built in people that are going through
this project that are saying I never understood it, like this,
this actually makes sense. Now I'm in my home, or
now I'm in my small group, and I actually feel
like I can speak up and share my perspective because
I don't feel like I have to be an expert,
but I'm further down down the road than I actually was.

Speaker 5 (34:43):
So it's a beautiful thing to watch.

Speaker 3 (34:45):
So take us to the website again. How can people
learn more about the story of God?

Speaker 4 (34:48):
Sure, it's www dot Glory Days, dot Life.

Speaker 3 (34:53):
And what is your vision? What would you love to
see happen with the story of God. Yeah, that's a
great question. That's something that my wife Bethany and I
have just been mulling over four years. Like I said,
this is over a decade.

Speaker 4 (35:05):
In the works and we finally put all the pieces
together to make it available to the public. But I
would say first and foremost, and David, I know this
is your heart as well. The first reason that this
project came together was for the nuclear family, was for
the family unit. And I know there's brokenness in every family.
There's divorce, there's remarriage. Every family is not in the

(35:25):
most ideal of situations. However, we do want to see
whoever is the mom or the dad, or the parents
or the guardian of the family unit that exists. We
want to see parents go through this material so that
they can take responsibility to be the spiritual you know,
overseers of their children's lives. We want the parent, we

(35:48):
want the home to really flourish, and we think that
parents need to be equipped to do that, and this
project was really written with that in mind.

Speaker 3 (35:56):
Well, the primary educators of children are the parents, and
it's not the church. You can't drop them off one
time a week when your average attendants is one point
eight times every month and hope your children are going
to get an understanding of the Word of God. It
is the parent's responsibility to do so. So this gives
parents the ability to teach their children this storyline.

Speaker 4 (36:14):
That's exactly right, and I've been through it with my
children and it is an amazing blessing to watch them
get it. So I think the family unit is a
primary reason that this was written. And secondly, there's four
reasons here. But the second one is for missionaries. I've
been sitting under David's teaching for you know, years upon years,
and I have not only heard, but I've watched your

(36:34):
life and I've watched how you've gone to the nations,
and you have funded the nations, and you have you know,
all kind of stuff happening all over the world. So
I would love to see this project translated into every language.
I would love to see French, in Swahili and Spanish.
I would love to see every people group that has
missionaries that are going there be able to bring this
project in their language and say we have a tool

(36:57):
that's going to help you understand Jesus as the king,
the kingdom as the primary establishment of what he has done,
and the scriptures to reveal how we are to have
this biblical worldview. So the missionary heart in me is
very much wanting to see this translated. Thirdly, you know,
we want to see this in homeschool families. We want

(37:17):
to see this in Christian schools. We want to see
churches going through this in a workshop setting. We want
to see churches adopt this for their small groups and
ministry schools and prison ministries. I mean, anybody can really
take advantage of this. So very excited. But then also
especially with this online platform, personal discipleship, people using the

(37:38):
online platform, getting the extra supplemental teaching, reading through the workbook,
working on this and you know this does take some work,
but this is the most important work that you could do,
is to know God, to know scripture and to see
how it transforms your life. So those are really the
main The vision for this is the family unit, missionaries,
groups of people, and educators, and then the personal discipleship.

Speaker 3 (38:02):
Well, and we have to mention too that people knowing
it themselves is so important to the personal discipleship and
without that, that's where it all begins. And without that
you don't really have the hope that you have to
give it to other people. Ryan, we only have about
a minute left. Any final thoughts.

Speaker 4 (38:16):
No, I'm just I'm thrilled to see what the Lord
wants to do with this project. I think there's so
much potential for it, and we want to make it
available to as many people as you know we possibly can.
So there is so much here and so much about
the Word of God. We would we just want to
wrap it up and just tell everybody that you can
go to the website Glory Days dot Life. You can

(38:40):
you know, you can obviously order it there, or you
can also contact me or the team by that website,
and we would just love to answer any questions that
you have or get involved in any way that you
might see fits so.

Speaker 3 (38:53):
Or may your mission, your vision be successful, and may
you live out John seventeen seventeen where Jesus said, Father
sanctified them. That means make holy, make them like me
through your truth. Your word is true, and with the
truth of the Word of God, I really believe we
can be transformed from the inside out.

Speaker 2 (39:11):
Ryan Carson, thank you for being with me today.

Speaker 3 (39:13):
God bless you and the ministry that if God has
played on your heart listeners, thank you for joining me
as well. I'm David Chadwick and this is News Talk
eleventheen ninety ninety three WBT. I look forward to talking
with you all next week.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
