Bij bedrijfsongevallen vallen één tot twee doden per week. Zelden hoor je wat er écht heeft afgespeeld achter de deuren van een bedrijf. Daarom maakt De Gelderlander een serie artikelen en podcasts, waarin we spreken met nabestaanden en betrokkenen. Janco Blaauw kwam op 22-jarige om het leven bij een bedrijfsongeval in Zevenaar. Al zes jaar proberen zijn ouders Gerlien en Kees en broer Bart en zus Marieke het leven weer op te pakken en te genieten. Dat gaat met vallen en opstaan.

Jaarlijks komen ongeveer 60 mensen om het leven bij een arbeidsongeval. De emoties lopen dan hoog op. De collega waarmee je net nog over je vakantie sprak, die ligt nu op de grond. Dood. En dan komt er ook nog een arbeidsinspecteur allemaal lastige vragen stellen. Karien van der Loo en Patrick van de Sande zijn de vrouw en zwager van Toon van der Loo. Hij en een collega kwamen om het leven bij een bedrijfsongeval in 2014 bij chemisch bedrijf Xycarb in Helmond. Dankzij Karien en Patrick kwam er een omslag in de bedrijfscultuur en is er veel meer aandacht voor veiligheid.

Martien en Mieke Huijbers verloren in 2017 hun zoon Bart door een bedrijfsongeval bij de stuw bij Driel, waar Bart als duiker werkte. Ondanks het grote verdriet dat ze nog altijd hebben vroegen ze de rechter geen straf op te leggen.
