ആ അരുവിയുടെ കരയിലെ മരത്തിന്റെ പേര് നീർമരുത് എന്നായിരുന്നു. ആത്മവിശ്വാസമുള്ള ഒരു കുട്ടിയെപ്പോലെ തലയുയർത്തിയായിരുന്നു നീർമരുതിന്റെ നിൽപ്പ്. സന്ധ്യ മയങ്ങുമ്പോൾ നീർമരുത് നിന്നു തിളങ്ങും. താരങ്ങൾ നിറഞ്ഞ ആകാശത്തിന്റെ ഒരു കഷ്ണം അരുവിയുടെ തീരത്ത് വന്നു നില്കുകയാണോ എന്നുപോലും തോന്നിയവരുണ്ട്. അതെങ്ങനെയാ? അതെ. സൂര്യമാമൻ അസ്തമിക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങുമ്പോൾ മിന്നാമിന്നികൾ കൂട്ടമായി പാറി പാറി വന്നു നീർമരുത് മരത്തിൽ വന്നിരിക്കും. മിന്നാമിന്നികൾക്ക് ഏറ്റവും ഇഷ്ടമുള്ള മരമാണത്രെ നീർമരുത്. പിന്നെ കളിയായി, ചിരിയായി, വർത്തമാനമായി.. ആ കാഴ്ച ഒന്ന് കാണണേണ്ടതു തന്നെയാണ്. അത്രയ്ക്ക് രസാണ്.. ആ മിന്നാമിന്നിക്കൂട്ടത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും മിടുക്കിക്കുട്ടിയുടെ പേര് ബ്ലിങ്കിമിന്നി എന്നായിരുന്നു. ഇത് അവളുടെ കഥയാണ്. കഥ കേട്ടോളൂ... 

The tree on the bank of that stream was called Neermaruthu. Neermaruthu stood tall, its head held high, like a confident child. As evening fell, the Neermaruthu would glow brightly. Some even felt as if a piece of the star-filled sky had descended upon the stream's bank. How was that possible? Well, as 'Uncle Sun' began to set, fireflies would flutter in groups and settle on the Neermaruthu tree. It was said that the Neermaruthu was the fireflies' favorite tree. Then came play, laughter, and chatter... That sight truly was something to behold. It was utterly charming. Among that cluster of fireflies, the cleverest little one was named Blinkyminni.
