Speaker 1 (00:10):
So you're listening to a MoMA Mia podcast. Mama Mia
acknowledges the traditional owners of land and waters that this
podcast is recorded on Hello, Lee here with a little PSA.
We have popped this You Beauty episode here because it
was wildly popular over on You Beauty. We wait in
on wearing makeup to give birth and after birth, and

(00:30):
I would love to hear what you think. We also
cover the best hair products for curly girls but with
fine hair, which is something that's not often discussed, so
I hope it's helpful. Makeup is my therapy. I'm obsessed
and I don't even feel guilty about it. Hello, and
welcome to You Beauty, the daily podcast for Your Face.

(00:53):
I'm Lee Campbell.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
I'm Kelly mccaren.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
How are you my friend?

Speaker 3 (00:55):
No, I'm not too shabby, but I'm even better now
that I'm in the studio with you.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
I love when you bring the pep. So it's Monday,
You're very happy for me.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
I do love it when I bring the pep because
when I don't bring the pep, you've really got a rally.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
Yeah, And then I have to bring pep. But it's
not hard because what we do on Mondays is answer
you be questions, You guys send them in via look,
let's face it, Instagram DM. These days you can email,
send us a DM, or jump in the Facebook group.
But today what are we doing? All right?

Speaker 3 (01:21):
So later on in the episode, we have a question
about curly hair and product recommendations for a very common
problem that our spirally sisters face.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
But first I couldn't help, but wonder.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
Asked me anything you ask plenty questions.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
Catherine has asked. I have a question for Leene Kelly.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
I'm due to give birth in April, and I was
wondering about the whole makeup for post birth photos thing.
I definitely don't think I do a full face and
was planning on doing a lash lift and a tint beforehand,
and I might put on a tinted lip bum but
worried about my skin, particularly my scary dark under eyes.
Are there any really good no makeup makeup under eye
products or will I just not care what I look

(02:03):
like in the photos?

Speaker 1 (02:04):
Well, it's April tomorrow, so that's exciting. You might go
into labor tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
This episode is coming out.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
Just I know she'll probably be on the way to
the hospital going I've gotta listen to your beauty. Let
me say you probably won't care, but it's okay to
care before. And the reason I say that is I
had a planned induction at nine o'clock at night. I
then two three days later, I had an emergency cinesarean.
But I was going to dinner with my parents first,
and then rich and I were off to the hospital.

(02:30):
And also i'd.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Had cascade of intervention, if you will cascade.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
I had had such a stressful kind of fertility journey
and I wanted to be in control of something. So
I did blow dry my hair, I put lushes on. Yes,
we're going to dinner, but also I was going to
have a baby. It reminds me of when Kate Middleton
did her own makeup on her wedding day, because I
think her life felt so out of control that that
was something she wanted to control. So if you want
to wear makeup when you have a baby, or to

(02:54):
the gym or to the beach, I'm fine with that.
So many people go, eh, don't be vain because you're
having a baby.

Speaker 3 (03:00):
Look, why do I think it's a vanity thing? When
I hear about people wanting to wear makeup for birth.
I just think, oh, for goodness sake, who could be bothered?
But not in a vanity way, more like a who
could be bothered way?

Speaker 1 (03:10):
But a lot of people can. And I think it
also depends if you go into spontaneous labor or you
are getting induced or having a plant cesarian. Like that's true.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
I so see on TikTok or Instagram people, but you know,
if they're lab parts of their labor, but it's like
early labor, and maybe if you've done it before, you
kind of know if you're having contraception.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
They haven't had that actions.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
Every twenty minutes or so. Yeah, they're like doing their hair.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
Yeah, I reckon. Catherine also is probably more talking posts
like she's had the baby. Yes, for me, I had
two days and like I literally had one hundred jowers
and baths, but I still had like three lashes hanging
on because I couldn't wash my face. Anyway, you've had
the baby, you're gonna have some photos. Let's give you
a few products that you might want to whack on
that don't take a lot of mastery or energy. Kelly,

(03:57):
I thought you might say this. The Revlon tinted moisturizer.
It's the Revlon Illuminates tinted serum because it's hydrating, sheer coverage, glowy.
You love that one? I do, Yeah, that could be
good just for all over. You can do yours in.
A second one that I did not know existed but
just discovered. It's the fenty Beauty Bright Fix eye brightener.

(04:19):
So it's like an under eye brightener. Very lightweight serum, texture,
amazing shade range, so it's not like a concealer where
you're gonna look like you're wearing a lot of makeup
or it's hard to put on. It just kind of
will neutralize those horrific dark circles, although you haven't had
that much sleep deprivation yet. And just one more that
I really love is the Nude by Nature Hydrastick lip

(04:40):
and cheek color. It's a little kind of wind up tube.
You can literally pop it on without a mirror. It's just,
you know, pop a bit on your cheeks to look alive.
I'd maybe do those products. Having said that, when I
was rushed into an emergency area and the nurse was phenomenal,
she was like one of them. It was like, give
me your phone. She put on portrait mode. She took
the most amazing photos, but the one with the sheet

(05:01):
riches by my side, I'm looking up, I'm holding on Alexander.
My face looks so pretty. One areola, the size of
a dinner plate is just out and so I'm like, well,
no one's going to see that anyway.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
Can you just put a little thingy over it?

Speaker 1 (05:14):
Like, oh, you've got to cover half the photo that's Alexander.
Alexander's head Ariola, you great? Is rich? What do you reckon?

Speaker 3 (05:21):
I really struggle to answer this because I really can't
think how someone would, especially post birth. I just think
it's the last thing that you're going to be thinking about. Yeah,
so I think you can sort of do all of
the things in the lead up to sort of make
you feel like you've popped in that effort and that

(05:42):
you're going to look fantastic. So whether or not that's
a fake ten, although then you're going to smell.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
And it's hard for feeding. But like a lash lift
or a lash ten, yeah, those sorts.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
Of little things.

Speaker 3 (05:52):
The only one product that I was thinking could really
help would be the Bobby Brown correct a stick, because
the thing this is, well, you kind of need your hands,
and that one you literally just draw on the dark
circles and then you can use your ring finger to
tap that tap rather than like shmearing product everywhere. That's
then gonna go all over the baby when you kiss

(06:12):
the baby. I also just want to say that I
think that the most beautiful photos in the world. This
sounds so like evangelical, but are the photos where there
is an actual warrior that's just.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
Got a baby out, an exhausted hair.

Speaker 3 (06:29):
And that exhausted look and the no makeup and the
dark circles under the ar like genuinely, because you know
the photos that I'm talking about.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
I've got a favorite photo of mine. I'm wearing that
compression leggings. I was finally allowed to eat food, because
after you've had a cesarean and epidural, I had everything
and they gave me food and I'm just stuffing my
face and I look like a monster. And I love
that photo and I think that's a thing that pre baby,
you would objectively go, eh, that's so gross about thinking
about yourself looking like that or a photo like that.

(07:00):
Post baby, you're gonna look at subjectively ugly photos of
you and go look.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
At that fucking warrior. Yeah, and you're just gonna look
at it a little bit differently.

Speaker 1 (07:10):
We go curl. Now, you've made me old herey Catherine,
good luck with the birth. Let us know what you
have if you would like. We want to see the photo. Yeah,
we want to. However you decide to take it teeny
tiny baby, U be okay. After the break, Debbie wants
some product recommendations, and as always, Kelly and I are
here with full baskets.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
Debbie has asked, Hey, ladis hope you're doing well?

Speaker 3 (07:37):
I have a question about the right curl cream for
fine curly hair. I find that lots of the creams
weigh my fine curly hair down, which creates less definition
for my curls. Could you please give me some recommendations
for some more lightweight ones or ones that would work
with my hair type. Thanks so much. Love the pod
and listen every single day.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
Debbie, Hi, Hi today. So I've got fine hair, but
it's not curly. What have you got?

Speaker 3 (08:02):
I've got fine hair, lots of it, very curly. However,
I never wear it curl. I never wear it curly
because I've bleached it for so long that only the
undecided actually is nice curls. The top is no matter
what I do, people like in just not doing the
curly girl method. Probably I'm like, no, no, no, it
is just like a frizzy hagrid lion's maine of.

Speaker 1 (08:22):
Mess chemically processed out all the beautiful curl.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
Yes, so it's just fluffy.

Speaker 1 (08:26):
I do have slight texture now. It weirdly had dead
straight hair and then postpartum I got a bit of
a wave. So I've got some recommendations. I did ask
friends who do have beautiful curls. On the fine hair side,
let me firstly tell you about a product I love,
but my girlfriend also loves, and she has very fine
curly hair. I've talked about it before. It's the R

(08:47):
and Co Cool Wind pH Perfect air dry cream. So
it's for anyone that wants to air dry straight, curly,
coily wavy. You just sort of use a little bit
and you put it in your damp hair and it
just kind of makes your hair bit smoother and not
way down. I've got very fine hair, but a lot
of it, and it just makes my hair look like

(09:07):
there's zero humidity or zero like breakage. Yeah, so good,
so you should try that. But then particularly or specifically
for curly fine hair. The John frieda Air Dry Waves.
That's a Moose currently half priced at the time of
recording at Woolli's for ten dollars fifty and so because
it's a Moose, you won't get the crunch if you

(09:27):
just use the right amount, because it's not like nineteen
eighties moose. And it's very lightweight. Because I think where
you might be going wrong is those really thick creams
or like serami oils. A couple of others the OGX
quenching coconut curls, freeze defying styling milk, So this is
a really lightweight almost like a face serum. So that's

(09:48):
really good for fine hair, whereas they've got other options
for like thick curly hair. So that's a milk OGX
a couple more than kel can take over. The Christines.
I love Christines, and the brand disappeared from Australia for
a while and then came back. It is in chemist
ware House the Christines Ultra Light Curl Defining Cream twenty
one ninety nine at Chems Warehouse. It is for curly

(10:10):
girls with fine hair.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
They sound good.

Speaker 1 (10:12):
Yeah, And another one i'd never heard of his brand,
but a friend of mine who has curly hair recommended it.
It's Hask Hask Curl Care curl Defining Cream. It is
seventeen dollars school price at Chemists Warehouse. You've never write
this brand before.

Speaker 3 (10:23):
They did those little shots back in the day, the
little Oh.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
Yeah, I mean the packaging is a little bit daggy,
but who cares if you've got good hair and yeah,
So I asked around and it was interesting to ask
a bunch of friends, and then there was some common denominators.
Which are those ones?

Speaker 3 (10:36):
I did exactly the same thing, And I also went
deep in a Reddit thread for like this specific hair type,
and the husk cream that you just spoke about was
a really popular contender.

Speaker 1 (10:48):
Oh my gosh great.

Speaker 3 (10:49):
Another good one is the JVN Complete Hair dry hair cream,
which I've recommended just in general and you got me
onto it.

Speaker 2 (10:57):
Yes, But on this.

Speaker 3 (10:57):
Reddit thread a lot of curly girls that do the
Curly Girl method were saying that it's really good and
you can get a thirty mil tube for twenty one
dollars because it's quite expensive, the big tube. But also
if you've got fine you only need a time exactly exactly.
The cool curls range from Thanks to Nature, which is
that branded you're worth. It's eighteen dollars full price, but

(11:19):
you can generally get it half price.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
It is so good.

Speaker 3 (11:23):
And that's the one that a lot of my friends
with curly hair recommended. They were like, you got me
onto thanks to Nature, and then that particular curl product.
I love everything they do, and then finally the Moroccan
oil treatment in light.

Speaker 1 (11:35):
I meant to say that and I forgot to put
it on my list. A lot of people forget, like
it's such a beautiful cult product. If there's two versions,
there's two versions, so if you've got fine hair, you
don't need the OG, you need the light.

Speaker 2 (11:48):
So it's not going to weigh your hair down.

Speaker 1 (11:50):
Yeah, Because I had a girlfriend too, she was using
some of mind. She's like, oh, but I don't have
light hair, and I was like, no, it's like it's
light hair.

Speaker 2 (11:56):
It's a lot.

Speaker 1 (11:56):
She thought blonde, Okay, it's for blonde, and then they
have brought out a blonde oil, which is then more confusing.
But I said, no, it's a light texture for fine hair.
You literally need like half a pea. It's seventy nine
dollars for the big bottle and that will last you
about you a very long time if that's all you use. Honestly,
there's really good options out there. Jump in the U
BiDi group and ask the eighty five thousand girls there too,

(12:18):
or people there men with I.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
Wonder if they have the same recommendations desires.

Speaker 1 (12:22):
Yeah, and now I want to go on a Reddit stalk.
I love Reddit scares me. Coming up after the break.
Two excellent host hacks. Well maybe one is more excellent
than the other. Will let you decide which what a

(12:44):
you ma cup hacks? Kelly, you go first. I haven't
even looked at the script because I have lately been
blown away by your life changing life hacks like Bobby
pins exist. I'm never gonna let you.

Speaker 3 (12:56):
Know the amount of people that DM to me about that.
I was going to start a collection to send to
you of screenshots being like.

Speaker 1 (13:03):
See receipts or it doesn't exist.

Speaker 3 (13:05):
Receipts or it doesn't exist. That's what I was thinking,
because I was like, and when I say the amount
of people, it was probably six, but you know what,
six people that were like you know what, girl, or
they'd send me like the Bobby pins in their little thing.

Speaker 1 (13:17):
Or one Bobby Yeah, I loved it, all right, hit
us with another winner.

Speaker 2 (13:22):
All right, well this is wildly different, host Haac.

Speaker 3 (13:24):
If you're wearing a bold lip, like as we go
into autumn and winter, sometimes it's really fun, like you're
wearing a smart suit.

Speaker 2 (13:31):
Just to do a super bright like orange red, like
a berry.

Speaker 3 (13:35):
Yes, just something gorgeous, but especially with red.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
I think that often we don't understand what blush.

Speaker 3 (13:42):
Shade to use because we don't want to use a
peacher or pink because then that will like not contrast,
but it just doesn't go.

Speaker 1 (13:49):
I rarely do a bold lip, but I wouldn't even
think about trying to find a blush to go with one.
We'll see.

Speaker 3 (13:53):
Then I think that your face looks too two dimensional.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
Yes it does, but that's why I don't without the blush.

Speaker 3 (14:00):
So what I want you to do is put some
of so whatever shade you're gonna put on your lip
or you have popped on your lip, put it on
the back of your hand, and then put like a
tiny little pump of the foundation that you used, and
then mix them together like with your finger or a brush,
and then just use a blush brush to stipu it
onto your cheeks and then it's kind of like the

(14:22):
perfect shed out color because it's going to then look
so seamless with the bright color at your lips.

Speaker 1 (14:29):
Genius. Right, then maybe if not foundation, you could do
it with like I know, not concilla because but maybe
like a moisturizer or that would take a fee. Makeup anyway,
it doesn't share it out enough like you need it
to be a foundation, peky exactly exactly. So there you
gop and now I will never tease you ever again. Well,

(14:50):
mine is very quick and easy and probably very obvious
to a lot of people.

Speaker 3 (14:53):
But oh, look at this, go shopping it cam ut,
excuse me, it's.

Speaker 1 (14:56):
For my floor, girly. So I don't get ready in
the bathroom. I can't stand up to get ready. I'm
too late.

Speaker 2 (15:01):
Same or I drag a chair in.

Speaker 1 (15:03):
Yes, So instead I get ready in my bedroom and
I have my little kind of vanity or sometimes in
my dream, I sit on the floor the mirrors up
against the thorm. Then I do my hair and so
I've got my straightener. But I'm like, oh, oh, I
put on the carpet. I might start a fire. Oh
maybe I could lean it on this magazine. I also
could start a fire, I know. Then I had this
weird tin box that I was resting it on. I
went to Kmart and I purchased something didn't mean to obviously.

(15:26):
You know when you go into the vortex. It's just
literally it's called a hot tool silicon tray, and they
come in all different ones and it's just like a
perspect tray. It's lined with silicon and it's for putting
hot tools in either as you go or you know,
when they're finished and they call it down too hot,
I can't put it back in the cupboard. Where do
I put it? That one's fifteen dollars. And if you
prefer your tools standing up, there's the hot tool silicon

(15:47):
holder fifteen dollars and then you just like stand them.
Oh that's so good. It's just because I think, I
don't know how many times I've left the house to going,
Oh I got left straightener on, Oh I left the
thing on. Whatever.

Speaker 3 (15:58):
Also, when you've got animals, you don't want them going
near hot tools.

Speaker 2 (16:01):
Yes, that's such.

Speaker 3 (16:02):
A niche thing, but I it's something that I worry
about a lot. So I put my straightener after I'm done,
like so high now, but then yeah, yeah, I know
because cuts like warmth. And then they're like, ah, so yeah,
what I do is I take my straightener out of
the thing and I put it on the thing, and
I go, I have turned it off.

Speaker 1 (16:17):
It's on the mat. And then when I'm driving somewhere, I'm.

Speaker 2 (16:19):
Like, it's okay, I put it on the mat.

Speaker 1 (16:21):
Yeah. See that wasn't quite as bad as Bobi pins,
but not as good as yours.

Speaker 2 (16:25):
You well, thank you so much for listening.
