How to be Football Friday Queen City Sports Radio ninety
two seven w f n Z. It's a football Friday
that means Monday headlines today, starting right now, your thoughts
on Panthers and Falcons on Sunday. But we also open
it up to the big college games this weekend. We
can go Miami, n C State, we can go Duke Virginia,
we can go anywhere you want to go, but Monday

(00:45):
headlines today. And I guess we can throw in the
Hornets too, given the fact that they've got the Bucks
tonight and the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder tomorrow night.
But we haven't seen anything official yet, but at least
not to my knowledge, but LaMelo Ball is probable for
tonight's game against the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA Cup
second Group stage game of the season. Pregame at seven o'clock,

(01:06):
tip off at eight o'clock tonight here on the flagship
station Sports Radio ninety two to seven WFNZ. A lot
to get to Chip pattersoncbssports dot com and the Cover
three podcast. Back in forty three minutes. Eric Spanberg, Charlotte
Business Journal. He's been reporting on a lot. We haven't
had Eric on the show in a while, and I thought,
you know, on a Friday where we're in a routine,
we're going into the weekend looking ahead to all the

(01:29):
big football games and basketball games. There's been a lot
going on in the world of sports business here in
the Queens City. So we'll check in with Eric Spanberg
at four to twenty five and at five o'clock Nate
Wemberley WBTV Sports Director, Sports anchor back in studio for
some high school football playoffs and some Panthers and Falcons
coming up on Sunday, so we have a lot to

(01:49):
talk about again. Seven oh four, five to seven oh
ninety six to ten. That's the Fan Duel text line,
same number if you want to get in and chat
the old fashioned way on x formerly Twitter at Kyle
Bailey Club Zach Kyle Bailey c lub emanating live from
the Chandler VAULTA Studios. The Carolinas Personal Injury Lawyers. One call,
that's all go to Cvinjurylaw dot Com. You know, again,

(02:11):
there's been a lot made about Sunday and the Falcons
and how big this game is. At five and five,
it feels actually like forever, even with all the angst
and the letdowns, feels like forever since this team has
been sub five hundred, and that's because it has been.

Speaker 3 (02:25):
Can they avoid that this weekend?

Speaker 2 (02:27):
Will they be prepared and focused and locked in in
a way that will allow them to go sweep the
Falcons on Sunday, something that one Atlanta sports radio hosts
think should be an automatic pink slip for Raheem Morris
if it happens. Our buddy John Michael at six point
eighty the fan down in Atlanta saying, yesterday, if Carolina
comes to Atlanta and beats the Falcons and the slim Reaper,

(02:50):
now that's Kevin Durant, the Carolina Reaper. Bryce Young goes
and gets a dub that he thinks Raheem Morris should
be fired immediately.

Speaker 4 (02:58):
The last two coaches we've had have both been fired
after losses to the Carolina Panthers.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
We've already been boat.

Speaker 4 (03:03):
Raced by and what if you get swept by the
Panthers this year.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
Do you just pull the plug on Monday?

Speaker 4 (03:08):
I don't think so. I mean, cause you'd be three
and seven, you're seeing I mean, the season's over anyway,
You're really gonna be season, and then you're gonna be
swept by Carolina, who changed coaches the exact same day
you do, or not the same day, but the same offseason.
They hired Dave Canalis when you did, and hired Raheem Morris.
But I don't want to go down this path. I
got a text from Big Travis Stroud. He said he

(03:30):
feels bad for b Jon Robinson. We're wasting a generational talent.
How many times does a generational talent walk through your doors?
Can think about for the Falcons over the last twenty
five years, who are the generational talents that have walked
through here? Michael Vick, Matt Ryan Jones, Julio Jones. B
Jon Robinson could throw Roddy. Roddy was really close. I

(03:51):
give a lot of credit to Roddy. What but that's it?
Are you gonna waste Bjon Robinson another year? Do we
magically think this is going to be fixed next year?
If things aren't changed?

Speaker 2 (04:03):
Okay, so they want people fired if they dare lose
to the Carolina Panthers for a second time in the season. Now,
it's people around here would be salty by getting swept
or about getting swept by any of your divisional opponents.
It's completely understandable to get upset by that, but there's
still that air of, oh god, can you imagine losing

(04:24):
to the filthy, stinking, pathetic Carolina Panthers twice in a
single season. Raheem Morris should be sent to a federal
penitentiary if he loses to.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
The Carolina Panthers twice.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
And there's always that air of disgust and just unacceptable behavior,
and that is losing to the Carolina Panthers. And you
hear it every single time we tap into opposing markets.
If it does happen, or if it has happened, that's
the way they talk about our football team around here,
and I'm hoping they do.

Speaker 3 (04:55):
You know what.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
The biggest reason, honestly those smoke. And this is a
tangent that I told you I was going to get
on before the show. I need the Panthers to go win,
and I need Bryce to play well at least this week,
hopefully beyond that because I cannot stomach any conversations about
certain quarterbacks coming in here. First of all, I can
barely stomach the conversations about having to chase a quarterback again.
And I know, I know many of you think that's

(05:17):
where we are, where we're headed in short order anyway,
But like I am still in my heart of hearts
rooting for Bryce Young to go out there and ball
on Sunday and finish strong in the final seven weeks
of the season and maybe lead this team to a
wildcard bird. That's what I'm hoping for because I hate
the quarterback chase. I don't want to go chasing more quarterbacks.
I don't want to have to do this. If they

(05:38):
have to, they have to. It is what it is, Okay,
I won't I won't cry about it, I won't complain
about it. If they have to, they have to, But
I'd rather they didn't, and I'd rather they didn't in
large part because what I really can't stomach our conversations about, well,
should the Panthers be in on Kyler Murray if Arizona
moves on. I mean, look at the Draft Kings' odds
from yesterday. The Panthers were the third highest odds as

(06:00):
Kyler Murray's next destination the national foot You smoke that
one absolutely enrages me. The notion of Carolina moving on
from Bryce Young and going to Kyler Murray after that,
Like you want to swap one short quarterback for another,
You want to take Arizona's leftovers, A guy who they
couldn't get the most out of, a guy who it

(06:22):
looks has been wally pipped by Jacoby Brissette. I can't
smoke stomach any real conversations about Kyler Murray being in
a Carolina Panthers uniform next year.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
I just can't do it. Yeah, why, just why? I
don't want to.

Speaker 5 (06:39):
And if you go after Kyler Murray, that shows me
that you've learned nothing over the last five to six years,
because this is just it's a half measure move. And
Kyler Murray, you can say, yeah, he maybe has more
raw talent in Bryce Young.

Speaker 2 (06:51):
He's faster, five faster, Yeah, maybe more lean muscle, fine, yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
But the leadership is not there.

Speaker 5 (06:57):
At least I can say with Bryce Young, I feel
like he has a lot of really good leadership qualities
and he's not one of those guys that would lose
locker room. I feel like Kyler lost the locker room
in Arizona. Oh no, it just would be a disaster
and unmitigated disaster. And plus when is Kyler Murray crap
his pants late in the year. He does well to
Stark a year most years, but late in the year,
cyon Ar, we're not seeing you at all.

Speaker 3 (07:19):
No.

Speaker 5 (07:19):
And plus you'll make a joke every single time a
Call of Duty game comes out that he's mysteriously hurt. Well,
there's so no why, no, no, just no no, Right,
Hornet's ron just said, So they want Bryce without the
work ethic.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
That's good. I'm going to pass on that all day long.
And there's to me, there's just no way that an
organization if they decide over the next couple of weeks
or several weeks that either Bryce isn't the guy or
that they need at the very least to bring in
real veteran competition to either push or replace him. I
just can't see the pendulum will swing from short king

(07:57):
quarterback to probably six or five prototypical quarterback if that
time comes. There's no way they're going from five ten
to five eleven. It's just not happening. Man, if Dan
Morgan does that, just take his key card. Oh yeah,
And I don't think. I don't think Dan would do that.

Speaker 3 (08:11):
No, no way.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
I just don't believe that Dan would do that. That's
why that wasn't you. I think it was TFB that,
as he often does, tagged me or tagged me and
Mac and Boone and a few others in a tweet
that he wants us to see and talk about. He
was like, Oh, look, the Panthers are third in the
odds to be Kyler Murray's next football team. And I'm like,
somebody's trolling. That's rage bait. I want nothing to Nope,

(08:32):
don't send me that because I don't want it, and
I don't think Dan Morgan would do it, and I
don't think that would benefit anybody.

Speaker 3 (08:38):
So no, thank you.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
If I've got any say in this, and of course
I don't, but I don't think Dan Morgan would go
that route. Also, as we were playing that audio from
John Michaels at six point eighty the fan there a
second ago, you and I each looked at each other
at about the same moment when they referred to Bjon
Robinson as a generational talent multiple times over. Now, Bjeon
Robbin is a really good football player. I think we

(09:02):
all agree with that. Is b Jon Robinson a generational
talent to you? That feels a little strong to me,
not yet very good, very good, no disrespect, but generational.

Speaker 3 (09:13):
I'd say great.

Speaker 5 (09:13):
Like if people don't call Stephen Jackson generational, why are
we calling Bijon generational?

Speaker 3 (09:18):
Right?

Speaker 2 (09:18):
Like it just feels like one of those things that
we're just saying words because we think they're close enough.
And I know, I like john No disrespect to Johnny's
he's been in these studios before, he's been in the
business a long time. I just was like, I didn't
know that they talked about him that way.

Speaker 5 (09:31):
And it's not a super hot take, Like it's not like,
oh my gosh, it's scorching and could I see him
being an elite guy?

Speaker 3 (09:35):
Yeah, but I'm not there yet. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (09:37):
Seven oh four, five, seven oh ninety six ten hit
us up on the FanDuel text line, do people see
b Jon Robinson as as as a generational running back?
Because I don't either, katieak Dave said Matt Ryan wasn't either.

Speaker 3 (09:51):
Well.

Speaker 2 (09:51):
That one also caught my attention. Matt again. Matt Ryan
very good. I would say borderline Hall of Famer.

Speaker 5 (09:59):
Yeah, he and Camera actually in similar situations of the
borderline Hall of Fame for sure.

Speaker 3 (10:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (10:04):
Back to back in well, they were back to back MVPs.
Both made the Super Bowl, both lost in their own
painful ways. And let's face it, it's been a while
for both teams to supplant him and replace him. They
tried with they tried with desbon Ritter. They did, they did,
they did, and did They give Kirk Cousins a lot
of money that didn't even last a full season, while

(10:26):
also drafted Michael Pennocks and jury still out on Michael Pennocks.
I think I think there's some talent with him. It's
just I don't know. I'm not one hundred percent sold
on him. Hopefully he doesn't sell me this weekend.

Speaker 3 (10:37):
That'd be great. Yeah, that'd be great.

Speaker 5 (10:38):
Don't want that to happen. But at all, I'm not
saying he's a bust. I just don't know if he's
If he's that.

Speaker 2 (10:44):
Guy, that guy, man, he see that guy. Jack says,
I see Bijon as generational the same way I see
CMC as generational.

Speaker 3 (10:52):
Okay, all right. That's that's why.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
And I'm asking the question because I see him as
a very good, one of the best running backs in
the NFL. He'll only be twenty four next year. This
is what his third year in the NFL. It's year
three right at nearly fifteen hundred yards. Rush had nearly
fifteen hundred yards fourteen touchdowns last year. So far this
year six seventy nine. They're a bit over the halfway
point of the season, so I think he's actually pacing

(11:15):
behind last year, behind the fourteen to fifty six that
he had last season. And he's only got the two
touchdowns so far this season two, so at least what
I'm staring at right now. So I just I'm hesitant
to call him generational, although I do have a couple
of people on the text line saying they agree. Someone
named It's a nine to eleven conspiracy name says, yes,

(11:36):
he's generational. The dude just moves different. He's just stuck
on the falcons. But there may not be anyone in
the league that moves as fluently as he does. I
don't know, man, Saquon Barkley moves like that when I
watch him play. I mean Saquon seems pretty damn I mean,
to me, they're extremely comparable. I just to me, I
try to reserve generational for some of the you know,
established greats of all time, and I just don't think

(11:58):
you can call the guy generation yet. Record Keeper says,
generational talent means once of a generation, meaning the best
of his generation. He's not that. No, we're not close.
I think the Bagel guy tried to argue in favor
of him too, said Robinson is absolutely a generational talent
that's under used, like CMC was underused here. But okay,
but do you think we'll be talking about CMC is

(12:20):
a generational talent in a couple of years. Is that
how he will be remembered for his time in the NFL.

Speaker 3 (12:26):
Here's the thing.

Speaker 5 (12:27):
I look at it, and I'm not comparing because I
think these two players are exactly like. But I honestly
think a lot of people, a lot of RAMS fans
love Stephen Jackson to death. I even had a RAMS
fan tell me that he he's more important to the
franchise and getting through some rough seasons than Marshall fawk
even though I don't agree with that. But if we
don't call Steven Jackson a borderline Hall of Famer generational,

(12:50):
then why do I call be John generational? I just
don't think there's a similar Like he's the wrong below,
he's a wrung below. That doesn't mean like hall of fame,
there's hall of fame. He's great, nobody's crap on him. Yeah,
there are Hall of famers in that are not generational.
Generational you only have for about two or three guys,
And I think the two or three guys right now
in the NFL that are generational running back are Saquon

(13:11):
and Christian McCaffrey and Derek kN What.

Speaker 3 (13:13):
Do we say?

Speaker 2 (13:14):
Okay, So to that point, yes, that you know is
he and he's got most of his career ahead of him.

Speaker 5 (13:19):
Derrick Henry does not right, Right, same for CMC and
most likely same for Saquon. Probably right, But what about
Jonathan Taylor? Who's the better running back? Jonathan Taylor or
b John Robinson Taylor? Okay, that's what So to.

Speaker 2 (13:31):
Me, when you're a generational talent, it means that you
are recognized as the best running back of your generation.
Right to me, like definitionally, to be generational, you have
to be the best at your position of a generation.
And look, we're not crapping all Bjon because we know
how talented he is and we know he could go
off on Sunday.

Speaker 5 (13:47):
We've seen it firsthand, but not the last time. Hopefully
they do exactly what they did to be John the
first time. But that's the guy you think of. But
I just he's not generational, he's all pro level. There's
different runks to this. There's generational slash all time greats,
and then they're all pro level. I think he's all
pro level. There's no problem with that. No, there's no

(14:09):
problem at all.

Speaker 2 (14:10):
Again, these are it's one of those conversations that we
have where some people will get met.

Speaker 3 (14:14):
You guys are idiots. He's a Jesus, He's.

Speaker 2 (14:17):
It's about what he is relative to his peers and
understanding that he's got a ways to go, and maybe
he does end up like a Sa Kuan where he
goes to another organization and really has those career defining
moments and wins the super Bowl. Certainly hope that none
of that ever happens in Atlanta. But you know that's TBD.

Speaker 5 (14:35):
Stephen Davis was never considered generational, but yet how good
was he in both Washington and Carolina. Yeah, there's no
problem with what Stephen Davis did in his career.

Speaker 2 (14:45):
Yeah, I'm with you on that. Seven oh four five,
seven ninety six.

Speaker 6 (14:48):
Ten.

Speaker 2 (14:48):
David, not a Duke fan, says, why is CMC generational?
Too injured? Too often? That's what I'm saying, though, I
don't think anyone I I don't hear people refer to
Christian McCaffrey as a generational talent, Like we didn't look
at him that way coming out of the draft. In fact,
Leonard Fournette was presumed to be the best back in
that draft class. So like he wasn't discussed in that

(15:09):
draft class as being a generational talent because if he
had been, he Leonard Fournette would have not have been
the presumptive first running back off the board going into
the draft.

Speaker 5 (15:17):
Oh he would have been What do you mean, Oh, well,
he still would have been if Jacksonville didn't take him,
because he would have been here. Oh well, yeah, that's
true too, Thank god Jacksonville did that.

Speaker 3 (15:27):
That's true. That's true, all right.

Speaker 2 (15:28):
AJ says, maybe I'm looser with using generational, but he says,
Bijon and CMC both generational one hundred percent, he says,
and smoke loving the Stephen Jackson references ever since Roman
brought him up, Well, I got it, I've done that
for a while. No, no, I'll give him some credit
for that. He has brought him up on multiple occasions
in the past. I really love the Stephen Jackson references

(15:49):
because I I just don't think about Stephen Jackson that
much anymore. But then as soon as Roman said it,
I remembered watching that guy and thinking, as a kid,
meeting that dude in the hole is like my worst nightmare.
Like that guy was an unbelieva six two two forty
with that speed and not only enjoyed, but sought out
the opportunity to run over defenders. I mean, was hunting
linebackers with the ball in his hand and then would

(16:11):
beat you in a foot race on top of that
down the sideline. Like he was a really really special player.
But even then, we didn't refer to Stephen Jackson as generational.
Back then, he was just a really talented guy. Seven
oh four five seven oh ninety six ten hit us
up on the FanDuel text line nine one nine number says,
what is your definition of generational running backs have one
of the shortest life spans in the NFL. So running
back generations are much shorter than human life generations.

Speaker 7 (16:32):
You know what.

Speaker 2 (16:32):
I'll grant you that because I think the what generational
as a definition just in life is like what twenty years?

Speaker 3 (16:38):
Twenty five years? All right, But even if you reduce
it to the.

Speaker 2 (16:42):
Average lifespan of a running back, you know, you can
name a couple of backs right now that are probably
better backs overall than Bejon Robinson. Maybe we're having a
different conversation next year. All right, let's get off this.
It's not a Falcons show. It's a panther show. But
Panthers and Falcons on Sunday Monday Headlines today seven oh four, five,
seven oh ninety six, ten us up on the FanDuel
text line, what do you think happens on Sunday at

(17:03):
Mercedes Benz Stadium? And all of a sudden, I got
a bunch of phone calls to take. We'll take them next.
Sports Radio ninety two to seven wfn Z. Come, Come,

(17:26):
Sports Radio ninety two to seven wfn Z coming to
the phone lines here in just a minute, asking for,
of course, on a football Friday, your Monday headlines today
Panthers Falcons edition, but also college football we throw in that,
and of course Big Hornets Weekend coming up Bucks tonight
in Milwaukee, eight o'clock tip, seven o'clock pregame right here
on the flagship. We've got myself, Travis t Bone Hancock

(17:48):
and all the fun that you can handle. And then
the Oklahoma City Thunder tomorrow evening, so make sure to
be there for all of that. But talking Panthers, we
played an audio clip from our friend Steven Meierra. Excuse me,
John Michaels, I keep throwing the word Steven out there.
John Michaels of six eighty and Atlanta six s eighty
the fan. He claims that if the Falcons lose to
the Panthers on Sunday, that Arthur Blank and Atlanta should

(18:10):
just go on ahead and fire Raheem Morris if they
fall to three and seven and get swept by the
lowly Carolina Panthers.

Speaker 3 (18:17):
I mean, I get it, it's a rivalry.

Speaker 2 (18:19):
It's the division, and you know, nobody thinks all that
highly of anybody else, But I mean, the Panthers are
five and five, they're three and six, and you know
Carolina has already smoked him once and look, it could
go the other way this weekend.

Speaker 3 (18:31):
We'll see.

Speaker 2 (18:31):
But in that clip claimed that Raheem Morris should be
fired and then talked about wasting a generational talent in
Jon Robinson, and that struck both me and Smoke, as
you know, a little bit odd because I think Jon
Robinson is a great player, but I haven't thought of
him as generational, at least not yet. And there are
some people who agree, some people who disagree. And then
I thought it was funny our guy all thinks Carolina

(18:54):
not to pick on him, because he wasn't the only one.
As we were talking about Steven Jackson, he said, you
keep saying Steven, I mean Fred Stephen was a basketball
player for the Bobcats. And I'm like, no, Steven Jackson,
the former Saint Louis Rams running back, the former Oregon
State Beaver. And it's funny because I feel like there
are a lot of people who either don't know who
he is for some reason or have forgotten about him,

(19:15):
which is actually kind of appropriate given the fact that
he was so good on such bad teams for the
Saint Louis Rams. In fact, I got a buddy who
worked in the NFL for years who's listening right now,
and texted me to say, there are three dudes that
are the most physically imposing people I've ever personally worked with, Cam,
Julius and Steven Jackson. Stephen Jackson is one of the
most underrated players in recent NFL history. Him, Cam Newton

(19:39):
and Julius Peppers. You look at him and you go,
you're not human, and that right there, I mean, he's
he's unbelievable, you know, in multiple All pros Pro Bowls,
but was on some really really bad teams in Saint Louis,
really really bad but like six two two forty could
run you over and run by you. He was just
an amazing talent that was still on some awful teams and.

Speaker 3 (20:01):
It put in perspective.

Speaker 5 (20:02):
Kyle Derrick Henry is fifteenth fall time on the all
time rushing list with twelve one hundred and twenty seven
yard top fifteen. Yeah, Stephen Jackson is nineteenth only on
the list.

Speaker 2 (20:15):
Top twenty and people forget who he was. Yes ay
j Dinaban said he was on a Madden cover. Like
he was, he on a Madden cover. I don't remember
the Arshall falk was it okay, because that's that's not
my frong rams running back.

Speaker 3 (20:28):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (20:28):
I didn't know if that was true or not, but
it would have, you know, helped, you know, further the point.
So anyway, seven oh four, five, seven oh ninety six, ten,
hit us up. Let's take some phone calls. Xavier is first.
He wants to talk about Jon Robinson. What's going on?

Speaker 3 (20:39):
Xavier? How are you?

Speaker 6 (20:41):
I'm doing a fantastic I hope you guys.

Speaker 3 (20:43):
Are, yes, sir.

Speaker 6 (20:44):
So, I think the term generational get gets thrown around
a lot when you've got elite players that have really
good charisma. That's absolutely true of a kid like Jon Robinson.
The same thing I think is true of our own
Bryce Young, in that because they're such good guys, their

(21:05):
values get overrated to a pretty strong degree. Additionally, I
wanted to say something about, I want to talk you
off the ledge a little bit about the whole quarterback issue. Sure,
So we've got a draft in twenty twenty six and
twenty twenty seven, we've got free agency, and we've got

(21:27):
trade that can happen while Bryce Young is still on
their contract. And we've got a church and a general
manager that haven't chosen their own qbs yet, So I
think that whole situation is going to work itself out.
I'm not a Bryce Young like Stan. I want to
see him do well, but I just don't think he's
got what it takes to be a starting level caliber

(21:50):
NFL quarterback. So we need to build the rest of
the team around him and then move forward from that
based on what Dave Canalis and Dan Morgan decide day
one for a quarterback to lead that team.

Speaker 2 (22:04):
Yeah, I like what you said about it playing out
because I'm of that same mindset as you. I hated
the way that he played on Sunday. I also think
he can play a lot better, and they may just
do that this Sunday, but he's going to get the
final seven games, and he will author what we're about
to watch, like he's going to make the decision for
Dan four, Dave and on behalf of all of us.
Bryce is going to be the one that makes those

(22:25):
calls and makes those decisions ultimately by how he plays.

Speaker 6 (22:28):
I absolutely agree, and I mean I hope I'm wrong.
I want to be wrong because he is a likable kid.
You know, you want to see him succeed. But he's
just you know, I don't know what it is. You
know it's it's befuddling. But I also think you know
we're in year three and you know it's time to

(22:49):
produce or get out of the way.

Speaker 3 (22:51):
You know, I'm with you.

Speaker 2 (22:54):
Hey, David, thank you for the phone call, buddy. Have
a great weekend. Hope you're doing well. Seven oh four, five,
seven oh ninety six, ten. Johnny's next. I love an
early call from Johnny. What's going on, buddy?

Speaker 8 (23:02):
What's not?

Speaker 9 (23:03):
My friends?

Speaker 3 (23:04):
How are you?

Speaker 9 (23:06):
I don't want either of them. The first standard heights,
I don't want either of them. I want somebody like
six three six four six'. Two at least they can
throw it downfield with. Accuracy he has nine passes at
twenty Yards Big. Jale you know Any greig MAYHASS i
just saw yesterday forty. Two can you?

Speaker 3 (23:27):
IMAGINE i CAN i can't, Imagine.

Speaker 2 (23:29):
Jess and just to be, clear because you jumped, in hold,
on hold, on hold, on hold. On you jumped. IN
i want to make sure people know what we're talking.
About you jumped in and said that you don't want
either of. Them he's referring To Bryce young Or Kyler,
murray Because Kyler murray appears to be on his way
out In, arizona and there are some you, know sports
books out there that are giving The panthers a decent
chance to end up With Kyler murray And, johnny you
AND i both agree on that.

Speaker 3 (23:48):
Part we don't need.

Speaker 9 (23:49):
Two five nine. QUARTERBACKS i, mean you, know come, on
you can't even see up in the. Line you needs
passes That Bryce young gets batted down the. GAME i
saw four last.

Speaker 2 (23:58):
Weekend Def but that's the thing, though that over you,
know over the span of his, career he really hasn't
had that, many but recently there have been a few.

Speaker 3 (24:07):
More you're, Right and the sad thing is he.

Speaker 9 (24:10):
Might everybody says want a nice? Guy does that really
matter if you're? Quarterback who's a nice? Guy And i'm
sure none of them are bad, Guys they're not. CRIMINALS
i like the quarterback this. Cocky he has ego and very.
TOUGH i haven't seen that out of him at. All
he looks confused on the silace AND i just saw
a stat where he's thrown had eight games for less

(24:30):
than one hundred and fifty. Yards pappy this year do
you know?

Speaker 2 (24:32):
That, oh, yeah, No that's been one of the big
knocks against him is that the you, know the overall volume.
NUMBERS i, mean, look numbers tell different stories depending upon
which way you slice.

Speaker 3 (24:40):
Them but you're right to bring that. Up the passing
numbers have not been.

Speaker 9 (24:43):
BIG i mean less than one hundred and fifty. Yard that's.
Embarrassing and that's against the.

Speaker 10 (24:47):
KID i don't even know.

Speaker 9 (24:48):
Him he could be a great. Kit like your buddy,
said he's a.

Speaker 8 (24:50):
Leader what is he?

Speaker 9 (24:51):
LEADING i don't see what's leadership if you don't, win
if you don't put up the. NUMBERS i, mean you
win in five games because of running.

Speaker 8 (24:58):
Backs let's be.

Speaker 2 (24:59):
Honest, WELL i MEAN i appreciate, You, johnny have great
have a great. Weekend good luck to your heels this, weekend.
PARTNER i appreciate the phone. Call, YEAH i mean some
of THAT i can argue back, on But i'm not
Gonna i'm not gonna get down in the weeds on
that right. Now either, way he simply got to play
better like he's he's got to go out there and
have a nice day On, sunday and if they're going
to have a chance against some of these teams Like
San francisco on.

Speaker 3 (25:20):
The road Rams.

Speaker 2 (25:22):
SEAHAWKS i, mean he's got to be a reason why
or he will not be the quarterback here for too much.

Speaker 3 (25:26):
Longer that's just the bottom.

Speaker 2 (25:27):
Line we all understand that by the, Way smoke has
predicted that The panthers will win the next. Two for
those that are keeping score at, home you stand by
that you've had a chance to sleep on. It do
you stand by your prediction of back to back road
winds In atlanta And san fran on A monday.

Speaker 3 (25:42):
Night i'm standing with all ten toes on the, round.

Speaker 2 (25:45):
BUDDY i, mean you are going to be a conquering
hero and people will be bowing down to you if
you get that, right if they go zero and.

Speaker 3 (25:52):
Two, though you're going to catch some heat for. That
you don't, care do, You? DUDE i was here On
monday After Duke blue Deat final four. Game i'm gonna be.

Speaker 2 (25:59):
Fine all. Right let's go To doug From Winston salem, Next,
doug what's going, on?

Speaker 3 (26:05):
Partner?

Speaker 7 (26:06):
Good BUT i hope you're having a great. Day twenty one, Fourteen.
Atlanta bryce throws a. Pick he might fumble the, ball
but he's definitely gonna turn the ball, over no doubt about.
That The decks are definitely gonna win this, weekend no
doubt about. It He's dickers doing a great, JOB i,
mean an excellent. Job so uh and as far as

(26:29):
we're just gonna to you got to ride all These
panther fans are gonna have to ride it out With.
Bryce doesn't make economic sense to get rid of, him
so you just got to play it, out like you,
said see what. Happens but he's definitely gonna he's good
for a turnover a. Game he is absolutely good for
one turnover a. Game and they'll go To atlanta twenty
one to. Fourteen it'll be closed, ugly but they're gonna

(26:53):
lose And San francisco blow them. OUT i mean that
that could be. Ugly that could be twenty five thirty point.
Game there's no way they're going to go to forty
nine ers On Monday night football and. Win that is not.
Happening and they'll be lucky to split With Tampa. Bay
so this could be as good as it.

Speaker 3 (27:12):
Gets, OKAY i appreciate the phone.

Speaker 4 (27:15):
CALL i.

Speaker 5 (27:15):
Listen there's no way that the Expansion panthers are going
to beat The San francisco forty Nine, ers the defending
champs In San. Francisco there's no way The Carolina panthers
are gonna sweep To San francisco forty nine ers and
win THE Nfc. West there's no way a team In
carolina who's all right and is only up and up
is gonna beat the DEFENDING nfc champ forty nine ers

(27:36):
in their last. Year, Candlestick oh, wait it all. Happened
that all, Happened it all, Happened it, did AND i don't.

Speaker 2 (27:43):
Understand, listen the fun of sports talk radio and being
a sports fan is making these big predictions and just
knowing you're, right but then you never really have to
answer for them for the most. Part and so Maybe
doug's exactly, right or maybe they do What smoke says
and they went back to back, games or they. SPLIT
i don't, know we'll, See but there are a lot
of people who feel like there's just this team's they're.
Fraudulent it's. Fugazi you know this win was a fake

(28:05):
and they can't do this moving. Forward and they got.
Figured you didn't think they were gonna Beat Green bay
And Green. Bay you thought they were cooked Against miami down.
Seventeen you didn't think they could win a high scoring
game against The Dallas, Cowboys so we'll. SEE i, mean
that's the fun of the. Season you didn't think they
were gonna lose against The. Saints, no you, didn't, exactly
just you didn't think that was gonna. Happen so that's
the fun of being a football fan and going through

(28:26):
the entire seventeen game. Season this roster is, better and
they're gonna be in these, games AND i think they're
gonna have a chance to. Win, certainly they'll have a
chance to WIN i think On, sunday and they. Should
they should be able to go To San francisco and
play competitive football with A San francisco team that is
racked by.

Speaker 3 (28:41):
Injuries they should be able to do.

Speaker 2 (28:43):
That Philly, Nate oh my, Goodness Philly nate's back on
a Football.

okay you Take Sam, donald you get rid of. Them

fifty million dollar contract two years from?

Speaker 7 (29:56):
Now that's point.

Speaker 6 (29:58):
One what are your?

Speaker 2 (29:59):
Thoughts, Well i've made the same argument THAT i think
if you dropped him In la With sean, McVay Or
San frand With, shanahan Or minnesota with, O'Connell that they're
getting more out Of Bryce young than they've gotten out
of him so far In. Carolina, Yes i've said.

Speaker 10 (30:12):
That of, course you guys are.

Speaker 8 (30:15):
The kiss of.

Speaker 10 (30:15):
DEATH i, mean it's absolutely. Insane last year you Bench,
Bryce you're ready to get rid of. Them you just
fell on the dumb. Luck you guys closed the season
now on a high. Note you love, them now you hate.
Them that's here and there my secondary.

Speaker 3 (30:30):
POINT i have a third.

Speaker 8 (30:31):

Speaker 3 (30:32):
Off you're making a lot of. Demands you better. Hurry hold.

Speaker 10 (30:34):
On hold on the secondary, point where is a football?

Speaker 4 (30:37):
Team?

Speaker 10 (30:37):
Bill where in the trenches your offensive line and defensive?
Line why are you guys so worried about drafting the
guys From?

Speaker 8 (30:44):
Indiana this?

Speaker 10 (30:45):
Quarterback?

Speaker 9 (30:46):
Fix what the league is built?

Speaker 10 (30:48):
On STRONG d, line strong o'. Lines at my third,
point WHICH i want all You canther fans to listen,
to really really, well we have the GREATEST gm in.
Football Howie, Houdini rosemith And all he does.

Speaker 8 (31:01):
Is put people in the right place at the right.

Speaker 10 (31:03):
Time all that, said The, eagles if you look at
all the top offensive statistical, categories they are in the.
BOTTOM i, mean twenty, fifth twenty, seven twenty.

Speaker 8 (31:13):
Eight but yet what do we?

Speaker 10 (31:14):
Do we Beat Kansas, city we go Into Green, bay

Speaker 8 (34:23):
You i'm doing pretty, Good Kyle, hope you?

Speaker 7 (34:26):
ARE i? AM i.

Speaker 3 (34:27):
Am i'm excited.

Speaker 2 (34:28):
Again i'm pre nostalgic because college football is evaporating right
in front of us each and every, week and it
makes me sad and anxious and you, know worried What
i'm gonna do without. It but we still have it
for the here and. Now and tonight we got a
couple of pretty good games. Here we Got, louisville the
number twenty team in the, country Hosting clemson seven thirty ON,
Espn number Eight oregon Hosting minnesota as well tonight On.

(34:48):
Fox but let me get your thoughts On clemson And. Louisville,
Obviously clemson season took a hard left turn a long time,
ago But louisville's trying to hang.

Speaker 3 (34:55):
In what do you think about this game. Tonight i'll
give you the.

Speaker 8 (35:00):
Game, first but then we got to address that. Paranoia but,
okay here's the. Deal jeff brom does not sound confident
at all in his quarterback situation or his. Offense their
star running Back Isaac brown's going to be out. AGAIN
i know he's been hobbled for both of the, year
And clymson's got a little bit of confidence coming out
and beating The Florida. State you Heard Dablas sweeny say.

(35:22):
IT a win against The knowles is always going to mean.
Something if they carry a little bit of confidence into
A louisville team THAT i think has been better this,
year but it's certainly looking a little. Rocky then, yeah
it could be yet another unranked team taking down a ranked.

Speaker 9 (35:38):
Team in THE.

Speaker 8 (35:38):
Acc but kind of they'll be so don't be so.
WORRIED i, mean, yes you you are right to be
concerned about the future of college, football BUT i am
reminded that it's gonna Be. Okay you go talk to
college football Players, today you look at the young coaches
and the people who are trying to make that engine.
RUN i know it's getting more sanitized top to, bottom

(35:59):
but college football will always be a human sport because
it takes a whole lot of people to make it,
happen and that's just going to be a reflection of
whatever society.

Speaker 5 (36:08):
Is.

Speaker 2 (36:08):
Well to be, Clear i'm just more concerned about it
the season evaporating in front of, us BECAUSE i agree
with what you just said there a second.

Speaker 3 (36:14):
Ago that's.

Speaker 8 (36:14):
All now you were talking about like.

Speaker 10 (36:16):
The future of the.

Speaker 8 (36:17):
Sport we've Lost america about college.

Speaker 2 (36:20):
Film, no, no, no no, No i've just got the
Mid november. Scaries you know that the season's almost. Over
that that's. All but to that, Point i've had a
couple of fun conversations about this this. Week you, Know
Tom Lougan bill WHO i, know you, know was on
the on FN z a couple of mornings ago and was, saying,
guys look at all the one score, games look at you,
know the increased. Parody this hasn't necessarily been the rich

(36:40):
getting richer in the way that we thought When nil
arrived a couple of years, ago after The supreme court decision,
talents more spread, out games are more. Unpredictable did did
do you think the big predictions of, well this is
just going to concentrate power and the rich will only
get richer that did that turn out to be true
in your?

Speaker 3 (36:57):
Mind BECAUSE i don't think it.

Speaker 8 (36:58):
Is, No, yeah definitely. Not you're not just able to
skate by on reputation and it's not just like an nil.
THING i think that there were just a lot of
programs that were able to operate at a little bit
of a, discount just kind of based on the name.
Value and what this new world has, shown which again
is in part spending not only on roster but on

(37:21):
resources as. Well what we've seen is that it's allowed
for some of these sort of a breakthrough, opportunities and
it's really forced some of the old guards to modernize
in a way THAT i think has made the entire sport. Better, Right,
like if you were able to just skate by on
name brand, forever then there would ultimately be a lower

(37:43):
bar that everyone would be having to. Chase SO i
think the sport of college football is better because Of
Nick Saban and one of the things That Nick staban
really sort of introduced early on At alabama was the
idea of sort of building this, army getting everybody in
line with all the analysts and things of that. Nature
SO i. AGREE i think college football is in a

(38:05):
great spot right. Now And i'm also just continuing to be.
SURPRISED i, MEAN i was thinking about this today Because
i'm also trying to do the college basketball thing like you.
Are gets a little bit, confusing brain get. Scrambled BUT
i was thinking when Rev share was, introduced one of
the narratives was that The Big east was about to
have a huge advantage that because they don't have to

(38:26):
spend on, football they're able to pour more into basketball
and that's going to be the. Difference But i'm looking
at The Big east right, Now, COLIN i don't think
that's the case at, all you, know LIKE i think
it is at programs where you have decided to, care
where you have made intention about wanting to be, good
those are the programs that are getting the, players the good,
coaches and making things. Happen Because Big east has got

(38:47):
two amazing teams right now in this, season to my,
eye and then a whole lot of yuck well below
what we're seeing in THE Apec.

Speaker 2 (38:54):
Yeah i'm with, you, Man like it's that time of
year where the main screens are football and maybe for
me some playoff. Baseball But i've got the college basketball
off in the periphery And i'm checking it here and
there because it's coming AND i do like What i'm
seeing in THE. Acc but we will get back to
that probably in the next couple of. Weeks what About
North carolina And Wake forest Tomorrow chip four point thirty
on the c Dub Our Buddy Wes bryant's going to

(39:14):
be on the sidelines for that. ONE i people keep
saying this, week Hey carolina is playing. Better you know,
What carolina going into WHAT i Like wake in this.

Speaker 11 (39:21):
One where's your head that it is one of the
three games That North carolina has left where you you
might be playing the hottest, team but you're also playing
a team that you might not have to trade paint.

Speaker 8 (39:38):
With WHAT i mean by that is For North carolina
And Bill, belichick obviously You're Wake duke in. State you're
talking about three games that mean a lot To carolina,
fans The carolina, boosters To carolina lovedy like these are
the results that really you end up carrying into the
winner in the holiday season with your, family with your,
friends so on and so. Forth so they're big, ones
Right chest does not Have Darien. Mensa Wake forest does

(40:02):
not HAVE.

Speaker 9 (40:02):
Cj.

Speaker 8 (40:03):
Bailey North carolina's strength is its, defense you, know the
special teams field. POSITION i play the kind of game
to hope that the other team makes a mistake and
then take advantage of. It they do not have an
offense right now that can march eighty five yards down
the field time and time. AGAIN Nc state. Does duke.
Does they've got dynamic. QUARTERBACKS i don't think Wake forest.

(40:23):
Does SO i think Wake forest, is you, know maybe
the hotter team you, could Especially duke coming off The yukon. Lost. Jeez,
yeah Wake forest might be the sort of hotter team
playing with. Confidence but it is a game THAT i
think will be lower, scoring and then Yet North carolina
will have a. CHANCE i think Against, DUKE i think Against,
state there's a number that those two offenses can hit

(40:46):
WHERE i just think That North carolina fundamentally would really
struggle to keep.

Speaker 2 (40:49):
Up, yeah over Under in that one thirty seven and a,
half our entire morning show here AT fnz picked at
thirteen to ten in one direction of the other, Tomorrow
so we'll. See let's go, There Virginia duke number nine
team team in the. Country virginia sounding Like Chandler morris
might be able to go doc as you, mentioned coming
off The yukon, loss obviously a monstrous game in THE.

Speaker 3 (41:08):
Acc what do you?

Speaker 8 (41:09):
THINK i think that this is a really good spot
For duke because while the drop off From Chandler morris
To Daniel palin was, SIGNIFICANT i still thought that it
WAS i still thought it was A virginia offense that
continues to lack and. Teeth i've been a little bit
off on this at, least you, know trying to predict

(41:30):
when they were going to be able to bounce. Back
but at this, POINT i just don't think it's the
same group that was lighting up the, scoreboard filling up
the stat sheet in the first, five what four or
five weeks of the. Season and so for that, REASON
i think That duke might be more prepared to play
a kind of zany, game because that seems to be
All duke's do in these, days Right Like duke is

(41:53):
very ready to do forty, five forty, two thirty, eight thirty,
five you, know something like. That, sure we've been in
a bunch of these one on lost some let's. GO
i don't Know virginia's got the horsepower for that kind of,
Game so we'll. See it'll come down To Darien minsa
taking care of the ball as long As Darian minson
does take care of the. BALL i Like duke in this,
game but obviously part of The darry And minsa experience

(42:14):
has been the risk of.

Speaker 2 (42:15):
Turnover you Mentioned Miami state At Miami hurricanes favored by
fourteen and a half. Points this doesn't on paper look
like one that's all that, Notable BUT i think it
was your your colleague AT Cbs Sports, Network Aaron, taylor
who Said miami should be worried about this.

Speaker 3 (42:28):
Game what do you?

Speaker 8 (42:28):
THINK i think THAT i Love Aaron. Taylor i'll go
ahead and just throw dot you rocks like he's just
he's the.

Speaker 10 (42:39):
Best there is a storyline which he might be aware.

Speaker 8 (42:44):

YEAH i mean.

Speaker 8 (42:51):
This you got a couple other boys From florida on
THAT Nc state roster that would love to Beat, miami,
Right like this is Where, miami through much of ITS acc,
history has dealt with a target on its back for
being THE. U you, know you could argue it's a disadvantage,
honestly but there are a lot of teams in THE

(43:11):
acc that that really relish the opportunity AND i think THAT.
Cj bailey and a couple of these kids on THE
Nc state roster are among. That so, yeah they should
be worried because this is a group that can come
in and. Score and If miami's not you, know on
its p's and, q's If Carson beck talk about, Turnovers
Carson beck's turning the football, over then, Yeah miami might

(43:33):
find itself in a game, that, honestly it is not familiar.
With it's been playing these lower scoring ground and, pounds slow.
Possession you, Know Mario christovaul is very, going very pro
style out, here AND i think THAT Nc state could
come in there and make them. Uncomfortable SO i agree With.
AARON i think it's the spot Where miami should be.

(43:54):
CONCERNED i Think miami should be okay just BECAUSE Nc state's,
defense it's away from home for much of the, season
The pit, game The Notre dame, GAME i mean it
hadn't exactly been, Highlights so being away From Carter finley
has looked different than being In Carter finley where they

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
