Every basketball player who’s stepped on the court in an open gym or the hot unforgiving blacktop knows how important it is to win games and hold court. If your team won, you’d get to stay on the court and challenge the next group. But if you lost, that meant you had to sit out for at least one game, and maybe more depending on how many other teams were waiting. And the feeling of losing sat deep in your stomach until it was your turn to get back on the court.
