In January 2023, the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal launched a new series called "Weird West Texas," where we explore some of the most odd, eccentric and, sometimes, just plain weird things in our region — from the state's northernmost town of Booker, down into the Big Country, westward to the Permian Basin and all the way into the Rolling Plains.

Our audience quickly became fans as they learned new and interesting facts about their home. So, we decided to take it a step further and create "Weird West Texas: The Podcast."

Join our agriculture and environmental reporter Brandi D. Addison who will discuss some tidbits from our research and the favorite topics we covered throughout the month. We'll also share some readers' comments and emails, so we encourage you to reach out and share your opinions.

We are so excited to take you on this journey with us! Now, let's get weird, y'all!

Howdy. My name is Brandi Addison. I'm the agricultural and
environmental reporter for the USA Today Network's West Texas region.
Just over a month ago, the Lubbock Avalanche- Journal launched
its newest column series called Weird West Texas. Each week,
we explore some of the most odd, eccentric and just
plain weird things in our region, from the state's northernmost

town of Booker down into the big country westward to
the Permian Basin and all the way into the Rolling Plains.
Now that we're a few topics in, I think it's
safe to say the series has been fairly well. If
you've been here any length of time, you'll notice how
passionate West Texans are about West Texas. So I think

(00:45):
West Texas pride has contributed a lot to the columns
appreciation because our audience seems to enjoy learning new and
interesting things about their home. Unrelated, How many times can
you say West Texas? In a minute. Since debuting our
introductory column on January 26th, readers have engaged with us
quite a bit. So much so, we're announcing a new

(01:06):
special podcast of the same name. Here we will discuss
some tidbits from our research and the favorite topics we
covered throughout the month. We'll also share our readers comments
and emails so we encourage you to reach out.

S2 (01:20):
So now we introduce to you Weird West Texas
