Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Only Sports Radio ninety two point seven a half mw
A u FNZ.

Speaker 3 (00:13):
Fine, this is the West and Walker Show. Even a
crowd knows what's coming.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
There because of the fact that there needs to be
somebody with a W on this program for it to
still be on the tracks. Good afternoon, this is WESN.
Walker Sports Ready on ninety two to seven WFNZ. I
am neither West nor Walker, but I am well poological.
You're enjoying yourself on a football Friday. You got plenty

(00:42):
to get to today. Panther's Falcons this weekend in a
game that feels very much like a big moment for
both teams for basically the real estate that exists short
of first place in this division.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
Basically, the winner of this.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
Game at least becomes the main I would say contender
for the Bucks and coming in for the second place
in this division, although it is a steeper road for
Atlanta to get there with their record as opposed to
where the Panthers are at five and five, where they
still have I think pretty good striking distance with the
Bucks based on the fact that they also have their
two games remaining against them also and a two game

(01:21):
deficit in the division. We've got a big college football
weekend here as the calendar continues to get deeper into November.
We always say is those who win in November will
be remembered. And we got a couple of very very
big games on the slate today which we'll get to
as part of our Campus Corner. Big moves as well
in Major League Soccer with the advent of a brand
new schedule shift, which we'll talk about coming up at

(01:42):
twelve forty five, and big news for those who want
to see more of that coming up here in the
near future with a new move that they made with
Apple TV. Also, the Hornets tonight will get LaMelo Ball back,
we presume because of the fact that on his injury
report it looks like he is listed as probable, So
from that perspective, there's at least some optimism that for

(02:03):
the first time, LaMelo will at least get himself back
in the lineup after about a five to six game
stretch where he's been out with an ankle impinchment. We
all kind of thought it was maybe a little bit
of a i would say, minor thing, but it turned
out to be a little bit more of a major thing.
He comes back tonight in advance of an NBA Cup
game in Milwaukee, first of a back to back tonight
between the Hornets and the Bucks, as well as their

(02:25):
game tomorrow night back home against the defending champion Oklahoma
City Thunder. I say good afternoon to Anthony Finder Pagna,
who's alongside me.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
Hello, sir, how are you going on? How you doing, Willie?
I feel like.

Speaker 1 (02:36):
It's been forever since you and I have worked together
at an on air capacity.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
Yeah, yeah, it's been a while for sure.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
You know, we work together a lot during the Charlotte
FC season, which we enjoy. But yeah, this will be
fun getting to talk a little bit of Panthers football
with you, a little college football with you, and maybe
even a little Charlotte FC.

Speaker 3 (02:55):
Not the ending to the season that we were hoping
very very much not.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
I heard you from that in the Problemo this morning,
which I found somewhat funny, not necessarily accurate.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
What I was going for. I was just somewhat funny,
you know, somewhat funny.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
Vashtihart's also going to join his final hour of the
program two o'clock. We'll get into all the Panthers and
falcons thoughts with her and as we wait, we actually
are going to have and we'll be joined at some
point here in the opening portion of the hour once
the Hornets finished it around by Mussa, diabate Hornets forward,
who presumably will start tonight for the Hornets because of

(03:30):
the fact that Ryan Kulkbrenner is on the injury report
out for personal reasons. I'm guessing it probably has something
to do with the fact that his newborn maybe girl
got born on Tuesday. We certainly hope everything is all right.
Might just be something as simple as the Hornets saying, hey,
you just had a maybe girl get.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
Born on Tuesday night. We have a back to back happening.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
Take the day, spend it with your wife, spending with
your newborn girl after a seventeen point seventeen point nine
rebound performance on wednesd night and a victory over Milwaukee
in the first of a split back to back. So
it will be basically Musa and Mason as the two
front line guys, and we'll definitely ask Musa also about
what they've been doing with this new Bigs lineup. But

(04:07):
we saw it happen a little bit last year with
Mark Williams and Musa Diabate with the two of them
kind of playing together. I think we saw it also
with NRK Dog as well playing at the five and
Musa at the four. You've seen Clauke, Brenner and Diabate
out there by them out there together, I should say,
And I think it's something that gives the Horns a
little bit of a different look, particularly as they try

(04:28):
to kind of fill the void in those minutes that
might otherwise be filled with guys like Grant Williams, Brandon
Miller and those who are currently still on the shelf.
As oppose, as we wait on Mussa, I do want
to at least kind of get into more of our
first look here on the Panthers, because so much of
what we look at with this team is obviously predicated

(04:50):
around the quarterback, and I know that we're not necessarily
scraping new found territory there, but this feels like a
mark game for Bryce Young and people are kind of
circling this game as maybe a fork in the road.
Could this be the game that gets him back on
track Ahead of a very very highly visible Monday night

(05:14):
game next week against San Francisco and a tough, tough
rest of the season, the six games that follow this one,
or is this the game that furthers the message from
a lot of people who feel like this man's this
man's NFL career is written and done based on what

(05:34):
we saw last week, based on what we've seen for
the balance of this season.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
And this is not me trying to come out and.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
Say, really, you know, I was all over trying to
make this happen, But at the same point in time,
I just I kind of feel like I want to
see what that looks like from him from a from
a get back perspective, And we'll get into that as
we go throughout the program today, because I think a
lot of people are looking at this and saying that

(06:02):
this is a landmark game for Bryce Young, and we'll
get into that as well with you as we go
throughout the program. Betel text Line's open seven oh four five,
seven h nine six'. Ten of course we'll get into
that as. Well glenn's is great a show about soccer
and The. GIANTS i don't know WHY i would when
WOULD i ever talk about The, Giants but we will
talk hornets right now with our next guest on the

(06:23):
on the on the Body Works plus guest. Hotline our
good Friend Musa diabate joins us here from The Charlotte
hornets as they get ready to take on The Milwaukee
bucks tonight In. Wisconsin what's going, On? Musa what pologic
back here In? Charlotte how are you?

Speaker 2 (06:34):
Pale, good?

Speaker 4 (06:36):
Good good in? You how you guys?

Speaker 3 (06:37):
Going we're doing.

Speaker 4 (06:38):
Well.

Speaker 1 (06:38):
Man the start of the season obviously has been a
little bit up and, down but a big win On wednesdy.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
Night how do you feel like the start of your
year is?

Speaker 4 (06:44):
GONE i think it's been going all. RIGHT i think you, know,
oversee there's always things to. Improve by the end of the,
Day i'm pretty. SATISFIED i always say THAT i.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
Got to keep it going absolutely when it comes to
you guys on the front. Line when they brought In ryan,
called when they brought In mason Plumb, LEE i know
you've got to be sitting there, saying you, know they're
reshaping my, Room they're reshaping things in this. Team how
did you take it from a motivational standpoint that, hey
they're bringing in two new, guys but they're selling you

(07:14):
on the fact that each of you three can do
all different, things.

Speaker 4 (07:19):
RIGHT i, mean you, know like you, said you, know
we all can do different things and very good at.
IT i think, that like you, know we compliment each
other very, well AND i think that's that's the most
important thing right at the end of the. DAY i don't
think there's an ego going, on AND i think we
understand each other and we all want to win and
that's the most important. Thing so, YEAH i, mean, overall for,
me it WAS i was very. EXCITED i think it's

(07:42):
a very interesting plan that coach has and line up
that you want to, do and you know he's able,
to you, know switch it up whenever he wants to
and have a different aspect on what what do you
want to try and do it on offense or? Defense
SO i mean it's.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
Great what what does not only having the guys around,
you but even just the newness of what you have
with this, roster the, rookies some of the new Veterans Colin,
sexton what's new about year two Under Charles? Lee then
maybe was different with year number?

Speaker 2 (08:13):
One. Hmm.

Speaker 4 (08:15):
Interesting i'll stay just LIKE i. THINK i wouldn't say
charge you more, specifically BUT i think as a team
there's a better understanding of our. IDENTITY i think we
understand more so how we want to, plan what we
want to do and what we want to accomplish for
is last, YEAR i think we were kind of like
in a mix of you, know trying to figure out,

(08:36):
everything like it was a whole new off, staff and you,
KNOW i think it takes, time you, Know and so
right NOW i think like we're definitely defining our our
identity even more.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
So do you guys Tease Calk brenner a lot about
how very very close to one he is in field goal? Percentage,
like do you guys give him a little a little
bit of a flack when he misses?

Speaker 4 (08:57):
One AND i mean Like staying doesn't Miss, Butch so you,
know we, understand you, know he's a treatman at the
end of the. Day but, man that man got gold
in hands for.

Speaker 3 (09:05):
REAL i would be certainly appreciate. That. UH i like
seeing the two of you out there.

Speaker 1 (09:10):
TOGETHER i know that was a lineup that That charles
has floated out there in about two or three games this.
Season what is, uh what is your? Role how does
that change when the two of you are on the floor.

Speaker 4 (09:22):
TOGETHER i think it doesn't change much in the sense, that,
like you, Know i'm still gonna bring the things That i'm.
Bringing it's more, so you, know it's just, understanding like you, know, now,
okay If i'm sitting the, SCREEN i got to be
able to make the read because now you have the,
dunker the corner or the wing that's gonna be. Open
so he's just, understanding you, know like whever that got
to make and you, know off my. PLACEMENT i think

(09:44):
it very much on, Placement but, defensively, OVERALL i think
it doesn't change much BECAUSE i CAN i can pretty
much guard the guards AND i don't have no problem with.
That but, yes it's mostly, offensively just you, know understanding
what placements you got to be. In but, yeah about that.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
Joining us here as we get you ready For hornets
And bucks TONIGHT Nba cup. Game, obviously you know they're
trying to do these things here in THE nba to
try and give increased value to the regular. Season do
you guys kind of talk about that as a team
in terms, of, hey you, know it's an opportunity to
win a. Trophy it's a time to potentially get something
that might be a little bit above and beyond what

(10:21):
you guys are playing for in the regular season and
toward the, playoffs, right.

Speaker 4 (10:26):
YEP i agree completely. Definitely is.

Speaker 1 (10:30):
In terms of where you guys sit in this, season
you guys might very well Get LaMelo ball back. Tonight
how much will that help you guys?

Speaker 4 (10:38):
TREMENDOUSLY i think overseas like he's our main point, guard
is definitely gonna be a game changer AND i mean
be very excited for him to come.

Speaker 1 (10:49):
Back, so, yeah this is year four for you in the,
league musa in terms of what your role has become
and how your role has, Changed how have you matured
and what if you noticed change maybe as you get
more experience with this. League what has?

Speaker 4 (11:06):
Changed, well first, off, YEAH i mean it's you, know
over the, years you get to learn a lot of
things and you see a lot of things. Happened BUT
i would say what has changed JUST i think like
my understanding of the business side of. IT i think
at the end of the, day like, oversee basketball is,
basketball and it's that's that's what. Counts the court, counts

(11:28):
but as well of like you, know it's just being
professional outside of the basketball, court, right you, know treating people,
right understanding that like you, know sometimes there's things going
on that might that you might not be able to
control and still being able to say a professional in those.

Speaker 1 (11:43):
Cases so, YEAH i know that there are people who
look at this team and, say, hey you know that
they are a trendy. Pick they are a trendy you,
know upstart of a team that could potentially begin to
upset the apple cart with how wide open The east,
is how much do you feel maybe a shift change
around this team saying, hey you know, what this could
be the year that we actually turned the.

Speaker 3 (12:02):
Corner now for, SURE.

Speaker 4 (12:05):
I think like we definitely are one of them teams
that can definitely show and surprise, people you, know like you,
said you, know like at the end of the, day
like The east is definitely more so there's a lot
of good, teams but also a lot of opportunities. There
SO i, mean we we're very excited and ALSO i
think that like we have a chance for, sure and guys,
know we will show. That that will show.

Speaker 1 (12:26):
That with respect to, Tonight, moussa you guys take on
A milwaukee team that you saw On, wednesday but obviously
they are a much different team With giannis into the
compo than without and looks like we will see him.

Speaker 3 (12:37):
Tonight.

Speaker 1 (12:38):
Uh how how differently does that change? You how differently
does that motivate, you knowing that you will See gianni's
potentially on the other side.

Speaker 3 (12:44):
TONIGHT i mean it's.

Speaker 4 (12:46):
Great you, know at the end of the, day we
comfort we're trying to compete and you, know them having
the food team and you know us trying to play
them is always another opportunity to get a win and you,
know you, know prove. People SO i, mean you know
we said. It whether you're hearing or, not it doesn't.
Matter at the end of the, day we're just trying to
play it and get a.

Speaker 1 (13:04):
Win we're hoping you guys do that and hoping you
also come home tomorrow for a big game against the
defending Champion Oklahoma City thunder and take care of business
there as. Well, Bussadiabatte Charlotte Hornets, center appreciate the, time,
pal good luck tonight and rest of the. WAY i
thank you As bussadiabatte joining us.

Speaker 3 (13:20):
Here on an early.

Speaker 1 (13:21):
Interview and now we don't usually to traducee interviews during
the opening portion of the, program but always good to
check in With musa and The, hornets and it's an
intriguing game, tonight too flound BECAUSE i think if you
look at this, GAME i know that you know you're
going to be a very big underdog in this. Contest
BUT i think if you think about it from The hornets,
perspective the way they played On wednesday, NIGHT i know

(13:42):
That giannis makes a very very big, difference BUT i
think that gives them a little bit of confidence going
to this one, tonight particularly knowing you'll Get LaMelo.

Speaker 2 (13:47):
Back. Yeah that's the thing is that if you Get LaMelo, back,
well then all of a, sudden this becomes a completely different.
Game you've got your star while they've got their, star
and hopefully that is going to be the. Case we
also have seen that When LaMelo is come back from these,
injuries especially when he's had some, rest that's usually when
he plays his. Best SO i, mean, yeah this might
be a good opportunity for. Them, now if you don't

(14:09):
have Call, BRENNER i think that hurts for, sure because,
yeah you Got, musa but then you have to turn
To Mason.

Speaker 3 (14:14):
Plumbell we'll see ultimately what it looks.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
Like BUT i liked The hornet's chances to, compete especially
after what we saw the other, night what we've seen
from the rookies so far this, year and the fact
that you're Gett LaMelo back in the.

Speaker 1 (14:26):
Fold hornets And Bucks tonight pregame at seven WITH kb And.
Bone i'll be on the postgame for that tonight as,
well of course The panthers and The falcons this. Weekend
big contest in THE A is this the fork in
the road game For Bryce young or will you judge
him more by the final seven games in totality or

(14:47):
will this one potentially portend the positive of the negative
for the rest of His panther? Career will it be
in For Western Walker Sports ready on ninety two SEVEN.
Wfnz thanks to The hornets and To buzzadiabatti for joining
us to open up the program on The Western Walker.

(15:09):
Show will he p in for those two Sports ready
ninety SEVEN. Wfnz wes Has North Carolina Wake forest this
week on THE. Cw we'll get into that of course
during the Campus. Corner SOMETHING i want to get into
also the kind of topic the jore when we Talk
hornets at one forty, Five This LaMelo wanting to be
the president of The United states innocuous comment that was,

(15:31):
made or at least it Was it was made on
a podcast on The Zach log. Podcast OH i miss.
This This apparently in the pre draft, Process Lamla ball
said to The Minnesota timberwolves that he wanted to be
president of The United states after.

Speaker 2 (15:46):
Interest, okay that's a, choice but after his playing, career
well with, WELL i hate to say, it but with
the guy in, there, NOW i think anything is. Possible
now that's All i'm gonna. Say you can't rule anything
out at this point moving, forward, Guys.

Speaker 1 (16:02):
Oh, yeah, yeah this is uh.

Speaker 3 (16:07):
Can you imagine? That are we going to pass this? Bill?
Fam that's that would be that would be. Amazing what
what what are you gonna do to fix uh fix?

Speaker 1 (16:15):
Healthcare? Yeah i'm just gonna do WHAT i do for.
Real Uh so there you. GO I i we. Can
we can get.

Speaker 3 (16:27):
Into that a little bit later onto the.

Speaker 1 (16:28):
Program, jeff The braves, fan says on the fandal text, Line, Yes,
willie this is the fork. Game Does bryce take the
right fork or do you stick a fork in? Him
because he's? Done oh that is a very as very,
well uh analogous analogized if that's if that's even a.
WORD i don't know if you can.

Speaker 3 (16:46):
Do it just just became a word right.

Speaker 1 (16:48):
There probably. Didn't it was very well analogied by By.
Jeff but, NO i think this is the, thing and
SOMEBODY i Think isabum said this is start number thirty
eight For bryce in HIS nfl, career which again the
sample size is big enough now to WHERE i feel
like you look at this and, say how do we

(17:10):
go about discerning how ready he is to be a
franchise quarterback or if he will ever be a franchise,
quarterback because so much of how we grade these guys
is how much they elevate their. Team the problem, IS
i don't know if outside of a seven to eight

(17:31):
week stretch in the second year of his, career we've
Seen bryce do. THAT i think in The atlanta game they,
won not to spite, him but basically with him hiding
in playing view the mini. Game same kind of Situation,
dallas same kind of. Situation, yes he had game winning

(17:52):
drives in, both but for the balance of those, games
we know that the run game was obviously the big feature,
There The New York jet game was a battle of,
futility and The Green bay game not too dissimilar to
The miami And dallas. Contests needed a big drive from
him at the end in order to make that. Happen
we have not seen the twenty twenty four version Of,

(18:13):
bryce AND i will just go back and show you
just kind of where it. Was he threw for two
to sixty three in The Kansas city game with one,
touchdown zero interceptions and a quarterback rating of ninety. Two
in the overtime loss Against tampa through for two ninety
eight a touchdown rating of eighty. Three not, again not
a scientific. Thing philadelphia game wasn't, great but had the

(18:37):
ball in hand with a chance to give them the
victory If xcel catches that. Football and then The atlanta
game a year ago through for two fifty, one three
touchdowns oero, interception many calling that the best game he's
played in his. Career quarterback rating a one twenty three point.
FIVE i guess the, game AND i guess team it
had to have that. Game SO i, mean, AGAIN i
know he could say there was no stakes on it

(18:57):
from The panthers, perspective But atlanta had to have that.

Speaker 3 (18:59):
Game they needed obviously a lot of other things to, happen.

Speaker 1 (19:02):
But the fact of the matter remains is that this
is at least something you look at and, say we've
seen him play good, Football.

Speaker 3 (19:10):
But is there a limit on? That? Number? One and?
Two can he even get back to?

Speaker 1 (19:15):
That and the third part of, this WHICH i think
started to get brought up this past, weekend is does
the man in charge trust? Him because the way That
Dave canalis called the game against The New Orleans, saints
it proved to me that at least in that, game

(19:36):
they were not trying to have him go out there
and be the winning. Quarterback they were having this game
hopefully be the same kind of blueprint that they had
in these other, victories, which, again until proven, otherwise The
panthers are winning football games by running the, football playing good,
defense and Have Brian shung just do a little bit
in order to have you. Win but the fact that

(19:56):
you did not present a plan b or at least
have any kind of of any kind of alternate route
to victory outside of that stated primary road was Incredibly
it was incredibly weird to, Me AND i think that's
the part of it THAT i think people keep coming back.

Speaker 3 (20:16):
To who are bright.

Speaker 1 (20:17):
Attractors they feel like the quarterback is not trusted by
this offensive, staff and they also feel like the quarterback
does not have the.

Speaker 3 (20:24):
Ability.

Speaker 1 (20:24):
NOW i think he has more ability than his biggest
attractors say that he, does BUT i also don't know
if we are in a situation where the team is
set up in a way for him to have that
kind of success like he had a year.

Speaker 2 (20:39):
Ago, YEAH i think, honestly you, know you look at
it at this point and you probably say to, yourself
this is a guy that simply just needs a lot
around him in order to be able to.

Speaker 3 (20:48):
Succeed and there's nothing wrong with.

Speaker 2 (20:50):
That there are guys in the league that win that,
way but The panthers just aren't in that spot right.
Now The panthers need a quarterback that can elevate guys
around them because they are simply not getting the production
that they need from their other, receivers and there are
quarterbacks that can do.

Speaker 3 (21:07):
That this was my point WHEN i was making this
point a.

Speaker 2 (21:10):
Couple of weeks ago on the On Charlotte Sports, TODAY
i said THAT i believe That Jackson dart right now
is more of a franchise quarterback Than Bryce. Young and
the reason why, is you go look at the Way
Jackson dart plays with the wide receivers that he. Has
his best wide receiver Is Wandale. Robinson most of you

(21:30):
guys probably have no idea who that. Is he's a solid,
receiver he's not great outside of. That who does he,
Have Darius slayton something? Like you see him elevate guys
that are around. Him you see him make those plays
in the passing. GAME i just don't know that you
get that same sense With Bryce. Young do you really
Watch bryce and say he's elevating all these guys around?

(21:52):
HIM i, mean you go, back you could say that
he did in the game against The, jets he Elevated
Xavier xavier at nine for ninety two.

Speaker 3 (22:01):
Yards what has he done since? Then he's done. Nothing
he's got three catches in three, weeks. Exactly jack Says.

Speaker 1 (22:08):
Willie my thing is this is a better team than
it was the last seven games last. Year i'd say
there's more talent on this, team and the team has
a better, record but you're dealing with a offensive line
that is having trouble keeping him.

Speaker 3 (22:25):
Upright and while the run game was great.

Speaker 1 (22:30):
Up until The New orleans, game it was so good
to where they decided you know, what we don't even
need to be balanced the heck with. Balance so that
showed them, that, hey maybe we, just you, know we
just chill on trying to Make, bryce you, know FRANCHISE qb.
One AND i also think, too while the defense has played,

(22:52):
better AND i said this in the postgame show On,
sunday and people got angry at me for it BECAUSE i, said,
hey know that the defense could have afforded to maybe
take the ball away once or twice or get off the.
FIELD i Think New orleans converted something like eight of
seventeen on third down and two of three on fourth. Down,
again the defense was, no in no, reason the primary

(23:15):
factor you lost the game On sunday at The New Orleans.

Speaker 3 (23:17):
Saints but it also.

Speaker 1 (23:20):
Their inability to get off the field impeded you from
Getting bryce more opportunities to get a bite at the.
Apple so, again this is we go back to when people,
say you, know compmentary football and then, say, oh that's a.

Speaker 3 (23:31):
Cliche that's what that.

Speaker 1 (23:33):
Means and that's the part of it THAT i feel
like hampered them in that loss To New. ORLEANS i
will say this spending it forward To, atlanta this is
a prime prime spot For bryce to bounce. Back you've
got a team In atlanta who defensively is all over the.
Place the past defense is actually, decent but has had some.

(23:56):
Morts the run, defense as we saw in the first
game between these, two is incredibly.

Speaker 3 (24:01):
Lousy, yes they've got guys.

Speaker 1 (24:04):
Who can rush the passer off the edge and they
both happened to me From North. Carolina and, offensively you've
got a quarterback who's taking about as many shots literally
and figuraively as your own quarterback when it comes To Michael.
Pennix so if if there were ever a spot off

(24:24):
a week WHERE i found it incredibly, TELLING i found
it incredibly telling that When Dave canalis was asked about
whether or not you felt like you overlooked the team
that you just lost, to and he, SAID i hope.
Not that telled me he, thought and you heard other
Players IKI I, KWANU i think most Prominently uh AND
i Think Nick gorton as, well both say statements that

(24:49):
backed up that. Assertion so WHAT i come back to
this and say, is If bryce does not have a
game that resembles the one that we saw and we
a week eighteen last, year it's gonna be hard for
me to feel like he can get back to that,
point because this is the last best opportunity for him

(25:12):
to gain some confidence down the. Stretch because if you
think about what The panthers have the rest of the,
Way you're going on the road On monday night football
To San, francisco you're home to The. Rams you have
to go To New, orleans a team that again winnable,
game but we don't, know couldn't beat him, here couldn't
beat him, here and then your divisional opponent, twice and

(25:35):
A seahawk game that probably looks a heck of a
lot harder than it maybe did at the beginning of the.
Season so, like, like where is the sure fire win
outside of and, again not even this one is a
sure fire. Win divisional games always feel like toss, ups
but there is no surefire win left on The panthers.
Schedule so if you're going to get, confidence and the

(25:57):
reason why people are calling this a fork in the
road type game is that you need to get it.
Here you need to get it back here BECAUSE i
don't know if you're getting it back in the final
six games of the regular.

Speaker 3 (26:09):
SEASON i, mean, look anything is.

Speaker 2 (26:11):
POSSIBLE i, mean we've seen this is a week to week,
league especially this year when it's come to THE. NFL i,
mean this team just went on the road the prior
week before they lost to The saints and beat The,
packers a team that at the time everybody thought was.
Great now notice how the narrative has turned and The
packers are all of a, sudden a team that's playing

(26:31):
some of the worst football in THE nfl and we
never should have believed in them to begin. With seems
a little strange that you've gotten to that point that,
quickly but you, know it is what it. Is the
national media they have a pretty low opinion of The,
panthers so it makes a lot of sense that they're
getting to that. POINT i, think, yeah this presents a
really good, opportunity and maybe maybe you don't need a

(26:54):
huge game from, him but you need at least what
he's been doing when he's been winning games this. Season
maybe later in the year you get that. Performance, maybe you,
know Against San francisco he just shows. Up that's a
beat up. Defense maybe he shows up and puts together that.
Performance but this, week you gotta stabilize. Things you got
to come out you got to play a clean, game
don't turn the football, over and you've got to make some.

(27:17):
Throws and if that comes on the last, drive then that's.
Fine if that's what wins the, game then that's. Fine
but you can't come out and put up another. Dud
you come out and put up a type of the
type of game that you just, did then we're gonna
be sitting here saying to, ourselves we probably are going
to be looking in a different direction in the.

Speaker 1 (27:34):
Offseason And tray and Fort mill, says my crazy to
think That david Trust bryce in the. WIND i, MEAN
i don't think it was it. WAS i don't think
it was that windy last. WEEKEND i don't THINK i
mean again he, said he, said but most Of bryce's
best games have been coming To.

Speaker 3 (27:47):
Dome there were not a great sign for a guy
that doesn't play in a dome, y.

Speaker 1 (27:53):
Right he didn't play. WELL i don't think he's played
well At New, Orleans SO i don't know if that
necessarily holds the smell test there all, Things carolina is
calling Out Rob. Moore he's, Saying i've Not i've heard
nobody talk about the wide receivers coach and why most
of his. Charges our changes are not simply. Better Even
renfro disappeared on the. Roster, LOOK i Think Hunter renfro

(28:14):
for a lot of. YOU i think people thought That
Hunter renfro was, this This god send. Savior Hunter renfro
was a band aid on a situation that Involved Jalen.

Speaker 3 (28:20):
Coker is exactly what he.

Speaker 1 (28:22):
Was and we came to find that, OUT i think
the hard way when he just doesn't get targeted when
he dresses on this. Roster, now he had the big
catch IN i believe The miami. Game it Was was
it The miami game when he made the catch on
fourth down on the?

Speaker 3 (28:38):
Slot? Yes that was was? That was?

Speaker 1 (28:40):
That AM i confusing that with The Jimmy? Horn One
horn had one And renfro had. ONE i think it
WAS i think it Was. Dallas maybe was The renfro.
One either, way that was the best play he's made
as A, panther and there really haven't been very many
outside of. THAT i, mean he had a good game
against The, cardinals but and that was a game where
they had to throw it immensely because they were down so.

Speaker 3 (29:02):
Great, Yes.

Speaker 1 (29:06):
Randall, Says i'm glad you guys Think atlanta Is bryce's
opportunity to get right for two. Reasons number, one BECAUSE
i agree with it. Wholeheartedly number two BECAUSE i already
know he. Won't bryce is a backup quarterback at this.
Level so, again IT'S i think a lot of people
who have cast their stone when it comes To bryce
have already kind of made up their. MIND i am

(29:27):
not at the point Where i'm ready to like brand
it in gold That Bryce young is a. Bust What
i'm telling you right, now the way THAT i feel
about him, today fourteenth day Of november twenty twenty, Five.

Speaker 3 (29:45):
I'm not.

Speaker 1 (29:45):
SOLD i can be sold in the final seven games
of this regular. Season BUT i have a hard time
if it does not happen this, week projecting it to
happen in any of the last. Six, now people will
get in to the other ten polls of this, conversation
well what do you do about the fifth year? Option
do you bringing a?

Speaker 3 (30:04):
Quarterback?

Speaker 1 (30:04):
Etcetera and so, On and believe, Me I'm we've Got
we've got about four or five months to have all those.

Speaker 3 (30:10):
Discussions, guys we all have a lot of time to
have those.

Speaker 1 (30:12):
Discussions but WHAT i will say, is at least from
the fifty year option. STANDPOINT i know a lot of
people are sitting here and telling, me you got to
take thie your. Option you gotta take fifty option After
why no one's holding a gun to your head to
take the fifth year. Option if you don't think he's the,
GUY i understand. YOU i understand that people are sitting

(30:33):
here and, saying you spend all this money to go get.
Him that is the sunk cost fallacy of. Economics do
not put any more into a already sunk cost if
you feel like you cannot get anything out of, it
if you feel like you have to cut pay and,
again people will come back to the well you Let
Sam donald, go and you'll Let Baker mayfield, go and

(30:54):
like what they do with other. PEOPLE i think there
are different things at play with Why donald And mayfield
didn't work here as opposed to Why bryce may or
may not work. HERE i don't think those are characteristics
that are singular to the respect Of donald And. MAYFIELD
i think that if you believe That bryce doesn't work,

(31:17):
here you believe that he either does not have the
frame arm, strength or the processing mentality is not as
good as you might have thought.

Speaker 3 (31:26):
It was coming out of.

Speaker 2 (31:26):
College he's a guy that you would be stunned if
he proves that he is not the guy if he
goes somewhere else and actually gets it. Done where with
the thing that people have to remember With, Baker baker
showed something when he was In. Cleveland, sure he led
them to the playoffs and they gave up on. Him

(31:47):
he came here and you could, say, well why did
The panthers keep?

Speaker 3 (31:50):
Him, guys he was. Terrible he was he was very.
Bad so, no one wasn't going to.

Speaker 2 (31:54):
Work no one's disputing how bad he was, here, right
it wasn't gonna. Work Sam, Donald, SAM i, Know oh
it's hard to believe BECAUSE i don't think that people
really watched. HIM i think that most people Remember Sam
donald's career as a jet.

Speaker 3 (32:09):
Light they Remember Zach wilson's. Career it was not like.

Speaker 2 (32:12):
That. Guys there were flashes Before, monos and then when
he Got mono that was really what changed his trajectory
with The.

Speaker 1 (32:18):
Jets Sam here was not as bad as people think. It, No,
No Sam here was not as bad a people. Thought
what do you think that he would.

Speaker 3 (32:29):
Have became what he?

Speaker 2 (32:30):
Is this year In seattle if he stayed, HERE i
do not think. SO i think that the best thing
that happened To Sam donald was he went and played
For kevin. O'Connell and when you play for a guy
that's that good of coaching up, QUARTERBACKS i think that
changed his whole trajectory of his.

Speaker 3 (32:46):
Career.

Speaker 1 (32:46):
WELL i think the other part of this too is
that The panthers had to make moves as. Well The
panthers have made transformational moves as. Well now we can
argue about whether or not a lot of those moves were,
right and maybe some of them had to be. Made
multiple times times people saying that the wide receiver corps
Around bryce is still not good. Enough i've heard people

(33:08):
talk about you have to make the stuff around him
a lot. Better, eventually the quarterbacks gotta be the one
elevating the. Talent, eventually the quarterback is gonna be the
one elevating the talent as opposed to the other way
around seven, four, five, seven, nine six, Ten Willy pee
here with you will come. Back changes to THE mls
schedule and to the way you might WATCH mls when

(33:30):
it comes To CHARLOTTE. Fc two big announcements yesterday from
the league which we'll get into. Next Sports radio ninety
two SEVEN Wfnz Sports radio ninety two to seven WFN.

(33:52):
Z willi p in For wes And. Walker by the,
way we just did get The panthers official injury for
the game On. Sunday No late And, ransom No Trevin.
Wallace those aren't. Surprises ransom with the hand, injury the hand,
surgery and while it's dealing with the shoulder the. Stinger
we we kind of again had those both telegraphed to.

Speaker 3 (34:15):
Us by the, way they hadn't practiced all.

Speaker 1 (34:17):
Week but everybody else is good to, go including a
changing of the guard at right. Guard oh very. Nice
Chandler's avalla is in For Austin. Corbett The Dave kannali
is saying in His Fast friday press conference That corbett
will provide good interior guard and center.

Speaker 3 (34:37):
Depth CAN i ask, why.

Speaker 2 (34:41):
BECAUSE i Just i've Seen chandler AND i just don't.

Speaker 1 (34:45):
Get like the chef's, son the big fan of the,
CHEFS i just don't get.

Speaker 2 (34:48):
It, man there's he has allowed so much pressure when
he has been in. There did you really Think Austin
corbett was that bad last?

Speaker 3 (34:55):
Week?

Speaker 1 (34:56):
Well you know, ME i WAS i was Always i'm
A i'm a big Brady ce. Guy the Brady ce
injury to me STILL i feel like is not talked about. Enough, well,
YEAH i mean obviously you're obviously in conjunction with With,
hunt who again we Love Robert. Hunt but, uh but
but those those two going down at the same, SPOT
i think is incredibly. Putative AND i think we also
have seen kind of a change and again that The

(35:18):
packer game was an, anomaly uh when he came down
to the fact that they had a lot of. Guys,
again when that when that line was very, Threadbare kerrhan
came in and played well, also which AGAIN i don't
think we talk enough.

Speaker 3 (35:28):
About but it Is.

Speaker 1 (35:31):
UH i don't want to say, perplexing BUT i think
it's just again they they Like chandler's of, all they
Rate Chandler, ZAVALLA i think better than people have to
be outside their room, man which again that's not the
only position that they have with, that but those are
the only real. Issues, uh people saying you know what's
gonna happen With ransom from a safety depth, standpoint they
can kind of move some guys around with the nickel

(35:51):
and uh and make that. Happen, obviously it means an
increased role For Javon mehra going into this game Against.

Speaker 3 (35:57):
Atlanta, yeah not the worst thing in the. World you.

Speaker 2 (35:59):
Know ransom has been al, right he hasn't been, Great
SO i think they'll Be they'll be perfectly. Fine the
one that's concerning is that right guard. Spot but here's the.
Thing they come out and. Struggle you can always go
back To. Corbett you could go To kerhan if you
really wanted. TO i don't, know you, KNOW i don't
understand how you saw what you saw from him and
said to, yourself, oh, yeah we're not even going to

(36:19):
think about using.

Speaker 3 (36:20):
Him at some point last, week so.

Speaker 1 (36:22):
He has made it clear that he does not like
using the guys who can place center in the starting,
line like just in case he. Likes he likes how
he doesn't want to have to move a guy over
to center from being already on the line for. Reasons
we saw that With brady c earlier in the, year and,
AGAIN i you, KNOW i think part part of it

(36:44):
is maybe more of an insecurity On dave's part from that,
perspective as opposed to anything that's an indictment On. Corbette
corbett has not exactly been perfect. Either he hit the one.
Game oh, no of course hit the one game WHERE
i think he. WAS i can't remember, which which which
one it. Was it might have been The buffalo. Game
was The buffle game when he was?

Speaker 3 (37:00):
Bad he was not good last. Week he was good
last week, Either so, yeah maybe it was That buffalo
game where he struggled. Out it wouldn't be. Shocking yeah
it was. One it.

Speaker 1 (37:09):
Was it was a couple of couple of different games
where he he looked lesser than less lesser than.

Speaker 3 (37:14):
What we would want to want him to. Be, obviously.

Speaker 1 (37:19):
Transitioning to this this next point, again we were going
to try to Get Paulton Oreo on from The athletic
to kind of further explain, this BUT i got enough
marching orders on this yesterday to to kind of give
you a little bit of context as to Why Major
League soccer has made a dramatic schedule. Shift uh to
here we go to change their schedule from starting In

(37:41):
february to now starting in Mid july and going from
fall to. Spring and you're gonna sit here and, say, Well,
willie why the heck could they try to go up
had to have with. Football the footprint which the new
schedule fits in is basically a ninety one percent crossover

(38:04):
from the current. Model so basically ninety one percent of
the games that fall in the new schedule would have
already fallen into the old. Model so you're only really
changing nine.

Speaker 3 (38:15):
Percent of the.

Speaker 1 (38:16):
Games you're taking basically games away From june And, july
adding them to the end Of, october In, november and
the middle to early part Of.

Speaker 3 (38:25):
February you're taking off In june And.

Speaker 1 (38:28):
July the big thing there is they want to align
the buy sell windows to get better.

Speaker 3 (38:33):
Players that's the, big big.

Speaker 1 (38:35):
Thing the major buy cell window In europe is in the,
summer and after having completed a long, season sometimes these
teams play more than fifty games with all the competences
they have to go. To the last thing people From
europe want to go do is play a seventeen game
end of a. Season they want to have an, offseason

(38:57):
AND i think aligning those things is a, big big
boon for mL les. Now the other part of this
too comes down to the fact that people are concerned
about the weather part of, it AND i think the
northern markets are more concerned than people, here like In,
Charlotte we're probably gonna have to play on the road
a lot during the early portion of the season because
we have that weather advantage come the lot of part
of the, year and maybe even also a little bit In.

(39:17):
February but at the same point in, TIME i do
think that this is something that the pros outweigh the
cons AND i know people are resistant to, change and
a lot of people have talked to being, like, oh,
well you, KNOW i liked HAVING mls in the year
where nothing else is going on other than, baseball but
we prioritize and, marginalize and we do all these.

Speaker 3 (39:41):
Things MORE.

Speaker 1 (39:45):
Mls in THE nfl season is not going to kill.
It AND i think too getting the playoffs away from
THE nfl, SCHEDULE i think is the biggest part of,
it because now it comes In, may in a part
of the schedule where the other thing you're competing now
IS nfl and AN hl playoffs in the baseball which
those three combined does not even come close to the

(40:05):
massiveness that is THE nfl and college football in this.
Country AND i know, that you, know if The hornets
make the playoffs one, year that's going to be, difficult
or if you are A canes fan and A CHARLOTTE
fc fan both that might be a little bit difficult
on you and your, wallet or you or your time management.
Skills but the amount of crossover that happens between those two,

(40:26):
squads from what we've seen on, research is very very.
Little so that, POINT i think at least gives credence
to the fact that this is a good move for the,
league even though it might take a little bit of
getting used to for some.

Speaker 3 (40:39):
People so you don't worry about the ratings at.

Speaker 2 (40:42):
All you think that they'll be perfectly, fine very similar
to what they are right.

Speaker 1 (40:47):
NOW i think it will, Be and part of the
REASON i think it will be is because they've now
opened Up APPLE mls Season pass to basically just they've
taken away the season pass element to, it and they, say,
hey if you subscribe To apple on their baseline, package
you GET mls.

Speaker 3 (41:03):
Now, smart very. Smart that is the.

Speaker 1 (41:05):
Bread that's the other piece of business and news that
came out yesterday is that if you subscribe To, APPLE
i Think apple is like twelve nine nine a month
or just nine to nine for the, year you GET,
mls you get the f, one you GET, mlb you
Get Ted, lasso you Get fitty's biggest, Crush Jennifer adison
on The Morning. Show so it's it makes a heck

(41:25):
of a lot of. Sense AND i KNOW nascar bad
has already hit me with. Pain good lucky you people
do with ten games when it's twenty five degrees, Outside
they're going to try everything they possibly can limit that
part of. IT i know people are sitting here and
saying they don't want to go to games when it's
twenty five or gears. Outside people don't want to go
to games when it's a hundred degrees outside.

Speaker 2 (41:40):
Either, YEAH i mean that's a fair. POINT i do
think it's going to be interesting to see here In
charlotte what the attendance is. Like, now how about when
it comes to the maintaining Of bank Of America, stadium
how big of a challenge is that going to.

Speaker 1 (41:56):
Be i've talked to some people about. IT i know
that they might be some concern on the food and beverage.
Side how do you keep everything stocked as far as
the field goes that, field the field can handle.

Speaker 3 (42:06):
It we know that.

Speaker 1 (42:08):
Much so from that, perspective, AGAIN i know people you,
KNOW i don't want to get another whole turf and
grass debating in here with everybody because everybody gets all sideways.
There but the field can handle it. Obviously, again the
fact that they are going to take breaks In december
And january tells me that they're going to really try
to avoid the punitively cold, months and the teams who

(42:32):
are playing in the northern part of the country will
play a lot of Their december, play a lot of
their excuse, Me november And february games probably in this
part of the country or further south than, here and
that's just going to be something that's a fad of.
COMPANY i know that other countries figure this. Out germany
is a team That germany is a league where they

(42:53):
take a winter break and they have they have a
similar schedule and structure to where.

Speaker 3 (42:57):
THE mls, is AND.

Speaker 1 (43:01):
I don't think there was ever going to be a perfect,
solution but aligning the by, windows aligning it To europe
to at least get a better player to come over
here IS i think the thing that is the pro
that outweighs all the cons because they needed to figure
out a way to get something capitalized Off Lionel messi

(43:22):
And Thomas mueller And helman sons a big feeling that
those entries into the league have only helped the richest
clubs or the glamour, clubs helping out clubs Like CHARLOTTE, Fc, columbus.
Etc that is the next step and aligning the by
windows allows for better players to come into this. League

(43:42):
we'll come, Back we'll reset the program for. You we'll
get into the college football weekend campus, corner some big
games on the local slate of, Course North Carolina, WAKE Nc, State,
miami and also some national intrigue as well when you
think About georgia And.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
