Speaker 1 (00:00):
You were listening to the Wes and Walker Show after
the latest college football playoff rankings.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Which team do we think would fare.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
The best in the college football playoffs?

Speaker 2 (00:09):
It's Wes SMU Miami and Walker My Dog, My Dog
going through it.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
Only on Sports Radio ninety two point seven FM wfn Z.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
We're gonna pick you up, man, We're going to pick
you up.

Speaker 3 (00:41):
It is the Western Walker Show, Sports Radio ninety two
seven wfn Z.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
WILLI p in for Western Walker.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
It's time for the campus Corner, and it is also
time for us to get a chance to check in
with Wes Bryant, who's up in Winstonsdale. Getting you ready
for North Carolina and wake Forest the Big on the
CW Network tomorrow four thirty in Winston, of course, getting
you ready for that one, Wes. Obviously a big contest

(01:08):
for both sides. It's a rivalry game. Two teams with
three losses inside the conference, Wake Forest off that big
victory of Virginia and North Carolina is definitely resurgent.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
This is a very very intriguing contest here.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
Will You got to make sure first of all that
you say conor when you say campus conor, you know
what I'm saying, so maybe there's something you can work on.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
I can, I can, I can work on being in
the ConA. We can do it.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
Yeah that's right.

Speaker 4 (01:35):
I like that.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
I like that.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
We can do it. We can do it.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
Yeah, no doubt about it. But now this is gonna
be a fun one. A sellout has been confirmed at
Way four, so it's gonna be jumping in here like
a bag of popcorn on two minutes. You feel me,
I do. I'm excited. Yeah, I'm excited about it, no
doubt about This is a rivalry. And it's funny just
being in there talking to the wake for as head coaches,

(01:59):
and we got a good laugh because we were talking
about how, you know North Carolina fans that they're always
you know, neutral long way for us. So I always
hear how they're like, oh yeah, we like Wait Force,
we cheer for them all the time. And I'm like, well,
I'm glad that you guys do, because we never cheer
for you. We hate you, we don't like you, so
we don't want any sympathy, we don't want any support
from anybody. So that's going to be the fun part

(02:21):
about this one. That's why I knew this one would
be a setout, and each team winning their games last
week just added to it. North Carolina fighting for a
bold spot, wait for is trying to continue to better
whatever bowl that they are going to be playing in,
as they are already both eligible. But most of all,
it's just good old fashioned hate at least from our end,

(02:42):
and want to beat North Carolina, who has beaten wake
Forth in their last four games, and the last four
games in this series have been decided by five points
or less. So these are great games, the tough games
that close games that you know. Fortunately for me to
self control, I still have my TVs and other devices
because these games have made me want to break things

(03:02):
very much.

Speaker 3 (03:03):
So when it comes to when the red light comes on,
I know that you are a consummate broadcast professional and
you've had a couple of wake games this year, But
is is this one a little harder to be objective
in with with you?

Speaker 1 (03:17):
No, not at all, because the check comes first, you
know what I'm saying. So I got to make sure
that now, to make sure you secure the bag. You know,
I do subtle things, though people watch me. Now, I
do do subtle things. I will react, you know when
something bad happens, I might swamp my shoulders or my
head might go back for a second. Or when they
do something good, I do little light fist pumps to myself,

(03:41):
you know, just those kind of quiet, hopeful fist pumps.
I'll do those. So you know, I do little things sometimes,
because this is extremely difficult when you're watching you know,
a team that you play for, when you care so much,
will it p you already know? Man, You know you
didn't play for Charlotte f C. But you know how
much you can, how passionate you are about that group.
So when I'm watching, you know, my guy, it's hard

(04:02):
to to fully keep it going. So I just try
to do little things, you know, that don't blow my cover.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
The big Virginia victory last weekend obviously showed a lot
of fight for wake Forest and Ashford. Season has been
incredibly mercurial up and down. What do you make if
kind of as and again the stats don't have to
necessarily be guardy with him, but it almost kind of
feels like as he goes, they go in a way.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
Yeah, no doubt about it, man. And so when you
talk about who were talking about Duke in Virginia, and
you said, what play.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
Did you say again, I'll talk about as wait with wake, I'm.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
Saying, oh yeah, yeah, yeah, no question. And so that's
been the thing with the passing game because demon Clay
Boying the last three games, he's been under sixty yards
rushing and a lot of that has had to do
you know, there have been some issues on some specific
run plays, and he did have a decent amount of
good run guns called back against North Carolina. But this

(05:02):
passion attack, man, it's got to get better. You've had
Robbie Ashra that's been a little bit banged up kind
of ever since he that Virginia Tech game when he
had the injury. He missed the next game and then
Party came in against Oregon State and he was able
to hit a lot of deep shots against them. But
you know, ever since that Oregon State game, this passion
attack has been very you know, very mid as the

(05:26):
kids would say, and that's at best. I mean last
week against Virginia it just felt like once it got
to a third situation, third down situation that was over
maybe five or six yards, that it just wasn't going
to get converted. Because that's just where this past game is,
and you know, talking to offensive coordinator Robbie Zel, you
know he's talking about two injuries of wide receiver have
affected that song too, you know, but as far as

(05:48):
the quarterback, you know, he was saying that sometimes it
is the throwing and sometimes the receivers have to come
up with plays. And so tomorrow, you know, there's no excuses.
You've got to be able to come up with some
plays that passing attack because this UNC defense right now
is as hot and as good as anybody, and they
are a team that's going to be looking out to
looking to continue to prove that point tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (06:12):
Yeah, very very concerned about the North Carolina front. How
he goes up against Clayborn here tomorrow. It's up with
Wes Bryant, who's on of course the North Carolina Wake game,
and thinking about the North Carolina side of this west obviously,
you know, go Lopez had one of his better games
against Stanford last weekend. Trying to see if you can
continue to build on that even though Wake Forest is

(06:33):
a favorite in this game. My two North Carolina friends here,
Fitty and Flound, seemed to be pretty chesty and confident
that maybe North Carolina's turning the corner. How do you
feel about maybe Belichick rescuing something out of this season
for them.

Speaker 1 (06:48):
Yeah, I do think that this is a team that's
getting better, and I kind of felt this is how
it was going to go, that they move on start
playing well right when they got to this game here.
And you know last week when we spoke to Carolina's
coaches and they talked about how players just really started
to get it. They started to simplify things and I

(07:08):
have the players thinking so much. And you know, when
talking to the way coaches, that was one of the
things they conveyed too. They said at the beginning of
the season, and that's why sometimes you know, saying you
don't get the context, you don't get to talk to
the coaches, you don't get to know some of the
kind of inside things. But they were saying how at
the beginning of the season you could see that Bellatik
is a guy who's known for a lot of exotic defenses,

(07:30):
especially when you talk pre snap and how they're lining
up on what they're doing, and so he was saying,
how you could see a lot of that in the
TCU game. They were trying to do a lot of
different stuff and throw a lot of different looks, and
that lends itself to the point of that those guys
didn't quite understand what was being after them on a
down and down out basis, and that's why you saw
some of the bust and coverage and some of the

(07:51):
bust in the run game that they have because guys
were confused. It was a lot being though that them
NFL concepts were being thrown at them defensively that they
didn't quite get. And so now when you look at
the tape, they talk about how Carolina's defense, they stripped
it down. They made it very simple for them so
that they can go out there and not think. And
that's a classic thing for defensive coaches to kind of
and even on the offensive side too, and guys they

(08:12):
haven't struggles, but they strip things down and just make
it simple so that the kids don't have to think,
because thinking sometimes can be the kryptonite of a football player.
When you can just get out there and playoff of instincts,
we know that's when you get the best results. So
this team seems to be, you know, clicking on all
cylinders right now as far as just understanding what's being
asked of.

Speaker 3 (08:32):
Them looking at some of the other games in the
ACC this weekend, West Virginia, Duke is obviously the very
big intriguing one. I know that Boone is making his
way out there for that one along with Fiddy. This
is incredibly intriguing because Virgina coming off of that loss
two wake Forest and Duke trying to obviously keep themselves
positioned well. These are two teams that I feel like,

(08:55):
you know, have shaky spots in their season, but also
have the i's alady to win this football game too.
I think it's one of the closer games we see
in the conference this week.

Speaker 1 (09:05):
Yeah. I mean, this is a game with Duke and Virginia.
You look at it on paper, and we're still trying
to figure out Taylor Morris. What's gonna happen with him?
Is he gonna play? Is he not? Because that can
make a big difference in this game. And you know
Virginia's defense though against way Forst they gave up less
than two hundred and fifty yards of offense, so they're
gonna be hoping to do that to mar going up

(09:25):
against Mensa darien Mento that is, and we know the
guarding numbers that this Duke passing game has put up.
I mean, Cooper bar Kate the leading receiving the ACC
when you talk yardage. So they've got their hands full
with this Duke passing game. But the keeper of Virginia
is gonna be you know, can they put points on
the board because this Duke defense, they've shown that they
won't give up a lot of points as they've been

(09:46):
doing lately. So I would expect this game to have
some interesting twists and turns. And with Duke having them
at home, this is a big spot for them in Virginia.
You know, their college football playoff host ACC championship hopes
seam right now to be way dimmer than they were
a few weeks ago, So for them, they're trying to
fight to hold on to that too. So you're gonna
have two desperate football teams out at tomorrow. That should

(10:09):
be a great game.

Speaker 3 (10:11):
NCU State Miami is the last one I'll get to
you with here West, just because I think from the
standpoint of where North Carolina State sits, you know a
lot of people are looking at this and saying this
could be you know, Dorian's last stand. For those who
aren't necessarily in favor of keeping him around. But Miami
obviously has had their woes this year after having again
almost kings, like they say the story every year with

(10:31):
them great to start and then fading here near the
middle toward the end. Do you feel like you give
the wolf pack of punchers chance in this one on
the road or you feel like it's all Miami?

Speaker 1 (10:42):
Yeah, sure you do, because when you look at Miami
and the way that they play, they're just so inconsistent
in the months of October and November when they lost
that game to SMU that put them at four and
eleven in the month of October November. So this is
a crew that you just can't trust them, no matter
how much talent that they have. And it's like just

(11:04):
when you feel like that you've got to read on
what they're gonna do, then they throw you for a
loop and they kind of do the opposite of what
you think. And we know we talk about Mario Cristobal
and some of the issues that he's had when you
talk late game situations and coaching and things like that.
So yeah, there's a lot that lends itself to this
ben a close game, and not to mention that when

(11:26):
you look at I think the last seven games or
so in this series, they've been close ball games as well.
So this is another one to keep your eye on,
and you're gonna be sitting there perhaps when you get
to the fourth quarter of Mt. State is winning or
if you know this is a very very tight game,
you can't really be surprised when you go inside and

(11:47):
look at the numbers and look at how things go
when these two teams play against each other again.

Speaker 3 (11:52):
The game that Wes is on North Carolina Wake Forest
Watching on the CW tomorrow at four point thirty with
all the coverage.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
Wes have fun up there, power prec shoot you.

Speaker 1 (12:01):
No doubt about it, man, Thank you guys, and yeah, man,
I had the nowlage three years on the show. It's
been a blast everybody. Just help us pull it off.
But appreciate it, man, and just excited. Hopefully it could
be another three and another three and.

Speaker 2 (12:14):
Another three, keep stacking wins, baby, Thank you man, appreciate it.

Speaker 3 (12:21):
That's Wes Bryant joining us here, of course, on the
show that bears his name, Wes Walker here Sports right
in on eighty to seven WFNZ. A couple of other
notes to pass along and involving the college game of course,
game the nine Clemson Louisville. This is one where you
look at it and say, Clemson playing out the string
here found obviously you know, close, close ish game.

Speaker 2 (12:44):
I think part of.

Speaker 3 (12:45):
The reason why Louisville is only a one and a
half point favorite is because people still think Clempson has
something for them.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
I don't know if they do.

Speaker 1 (12:52):
No.

Speaker 4 (12:53):
I thought, I said yesterday, I think this game is.

Speaker 2 (12:55):
Gonna be a blowout.

Speaker 5 (12:56):
I think that Louisville is going to be incredibly motivated
coming off of last week. I think Clemson, I mean
he saw last week kay Klebnick got banged up yet again.
He was limping around on the field. That offense has
looked fine, but that defense man is really struggling. So
I think Louisville comes out, makes the statement tonight and
shows that Clemson is no longer what we thought they

(13:17):
were going to be at the start of the season,
putting in a stamp on that for sure.

Speaker 3 (13:22):
Notre Dame Pittsburgh is also the noon kind of statement
game of the weekend tomorrow, Number nine, Notre Dame, number
twenty two Pittsburgh a little bit of rain potentially possible
for that one. I don't know if that'll slow down
Notre Dame, but I think Pittsburgh puts up a fight,
maybe for two and a half quarters, but I think
Notre Dame ends up winning this out.

Speaker 5 (13:41):
Well, Mason Heinschels undefeated as a starter, so we're gonna
have to see. This is his first really big test
outside of the game against Louisville.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
I think he started in that game. I could be wrong, though, but.

Speaker 5 (13:51):
Either way, I think he definitely has shown you that
he is a more than capable quarterback. I think this
has a chance to be a really good game. I
know patn Nordowsey said he doesn't care. He's worried about
winning the next two games because that's ultimately what gets
you to the a SEC Championship. But I think he'll
have his guys fighting in this game. I just think, yeah,
they come up short because Notre Dame is a team

(14:14):
that I know people are trying to do this again.

Speaker 1 (14:16):
M hm.

Speaker 5 (14:17):
They are a college football playoff team, folks. I hate
to admit it. I do not like Notre Dame, not
if anything, but they are what they have done since
that start to the season the zero to two starts
of the season is they have beaten everybody handedly. They're
doing what they're supposed to do. So I think, yeah,
especially if they pick up a win in this.

Speaker 3 (14:36):
Game and the rule, the rules allow them to have
maybe a little bit more of a more of a
leash than some of the other teams are are given
because the fact that they don't play in a conference,
and that's again that that's that's the fallacy. And you
could sit here and wint about it and believe me,
I uh, I want about it, But I think they

(14:56):
they've got enough of a track record surrounding them that
that as long as they don't lose from here on out,
they will be in the College Football Playoff again. If
they stubbed the toe again, then we reserve to change
that changed that tune. I want to at least have
you have an opportunity to talk North Carolina and Wake.
Obviously we had the Wake point of view in the
interest of equal time.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
What do you have on this one?

Speaker 5 (15:18):
Well, I mean, this game I think is going to
be a low scoring affair.

Speaker 4 (15:22):
I think it's not.

Speaker 5 (15:23):
It's a game that doesn't even get out of the
teams Now look at the way that these two teams
have been playing outside of the game against Florida State,
Wake Forest defense has been really good. Carolina's defense playing
at a very high level as well. I don't think
that Robbie Ashford is really going to be able to
do a ton in the passing game in this one.
But it's ultimately going to come down to the running game.

(15:43):
Can Carolina slow down to mont Clayborn. Can they take
away Robbie Ashford's legs scrambling bill. That's gonna be something
They've got to be smart with how they rush the quarterback.
If they can do that, I feel like Geo Lopez
can make enough plays for you. Now, this is going
up against the toughest defense that you faced during the stretch.
Stanford's defense was not good. Syracuset's defense was putrid. This

(16:05):
is a much different group that you are going up against.
But I think Goo Lopez makes enough plays. I think
they created a couple of turnovers off of Robbie Ashford.
Carolina takes advantage of a couple of short fields. I
think Carolina wins this game seventeen to thirteen. That's what
I said last night on the podcast, and I'm gonna
stick with it.

Speaker 3 (16:22):
It's interesting, it's an intriguing game, and obviously with it
being a rivalry game, it could definitely change the way
both teams feel about their seasons if it goes that way.
It is Wes and Walker Show, Sports Traded a ninety
seven WFNZ will come back. It is time for the
game day dubs regarding the Carolina Panthers, the who, what, when,
where and why surrounding Panthers Falcons. Next on Sports Radio

(16:46):
ninety two to seven WFNZ. Sports Ready on ninety two

(17:13):
to seven wfn Z. It is the Western Walker Show.
Will you p here for Western Walker? Thanks to Wes
Brian for joining us here. I was going to talk
to you about something that we would talk about off
the air, but I'm glad, we glad we cleared that
up with our boss. Oh yeah, no, it's all good.

Speaker 2 (17:32):
It's all good days, et cetera, and so on.

Speaker 3 (17:37):
We'll get in a little bit of Hornets coming up
at one forty five again if you missed our conversation
earlier with Hornets Forward Mussa Diabatte will be on the
West and Walker podcast, and I also very well make
a cameo appearance, and tonight it's Hornets pregame show. Hornets
get ready for the Milwaukee Bucks Tonight NBA Cup Game
seven o'clock pre game, eight o'clock tip time inside Milwaukee.

Speaker 5 (17:59):
The NBA Cup does nothing for me. We had this
talk yesterday. I just don't get how you're supposed to
get hyped for NBA Cup.

Speaker 4 (18:09):
It's to me, it's worse than the Summer League.

Speaker 5 (18:11):
People were saying the Summer League, but that's that's been
around for years.

Speaker 3 (18:15):
I know what they were trying to do with it,
trying trying to get it to a point where you
are caring more about these otherwise.

Speaker 2 (18:26):
Innocuous regular season games.

Speaker 3 (18:29):
But if you were going to do it, if it
was me, I would have made a larger segment of
the games the NBA Cup to where it's not like, oh,
it's just this five game group play thing, and then
have the competition, say like in conjunction with the All
Star break, like make it a little bit of a
longer competition as opposed to just oh, you know, we're
just going to play these five games randomly and then

(18:51):
have this little competition here in the middle of December.
It just it seemed it seems like there's probably a
way to do it to where it makes it have
a little bit more juice. But by yeah, like you said,
it does kind of come off as a little bit fluky,
a little bit fougazy. When it comes down to it,
it is time. Well the game day dubs for the
Panthers and the Falcons, week number eleven in the National

(19:17):
Football League, Panthers at five and five playing a Falcon
team that is three and six. Panthers won the initial
contest thirty to nothing, and Panthers looking for a sweep
of the Falcons for the first time in about a
dozen years. But who, what, when, where and why? With
the game day dubs on a Friday, found Dez, what's

(19:40):
first up?

Speaker 5 (19:41):
All right, we'll start with the who willie who will
need to step up the most on this team?

Speaker 4 (19:48):
Who is not named Bryce Young?

Speaker 3 (19:51):
So this has to be an offensive player. I'm not
gonna say Rico Downell because I don't think the problems
that took place last week where anything necessarily having to.

Speaker 2 (20:02):
Do with him.

Speaker 3 (20:05):
Xavier Lee Get is my answer because I think for
the most part this season, we've had a lot of
questions about Xavier League Get and I think it's incredibly
evident to me that there isn't a wide receiver on
this team that Bryce Young trusts the level of Teteroa McMillan.
I know that Cocher has had a little bit of

(20:27):
a come up lately, but Xavier lely g Get this
season has thirty eight targets and twenty catches for two touchdowns.

Speaker 2 (20:36):
That is a shockingly, shockingly low.

Speaker 3 (20:40):
Number for a guy who was your leading receiver last
year and for somebody who had somebody come in at
his position. It needs to be better from him. And
I know a lot of people will sit here and say, well,
you know, is Bryce not getting in the football? The

(21:01):
touchdown catch that wasn't last week, I think was incredibly
glaring from an error standpoint. I thought you need to
make that catch, thought the game up on the route
too early, And I think it's a crisis of confidence
for Xavier league Get. I'm not calling him Johnny Bingo,
I'm not calling him Terrist Marshall junior.

Speaker 2 (21:22):
But you need to look like the guy that we drafted.

Speaker 3 (21:26):
Is basically the way I feel, and if the Panthers
passing game is going to work, he needs to have
another outlet outside of t Mac. He needs to have
another outlet outside of Jaalen Cocher, maybe even the tight
ends too. Like when Bryce is doing well, he's spreading
the football to multiple receivers. This is not a great

(21:46):
fantasy wide receiver group. But if zaber leaguet can do
something to stretch the passing game, get the coverage away
from Tedroroll McMillan, maybe that helps out Bryce a little bit,
particularly early.

Speaker 4 (22:01):
I agree with you. I like that.

Speaker 5 (22:03):
I think he definitely needs to be the guy that
steps up. I mean, you look at this passing game
and you just need somebody that's gonna be able to
do something downfield, win downfield. He's supposed to be the
guy that can do that. Maybe you'd point to tedor
Roa McMillan and expect him to start doing that a
little bit more. But I definitely think it starts and

(22:23):
ends with Xavier Leguat. You can't have three catches in
three weeks. That just can't happen for a starting wide
receiver that is being counted on to play as many
snaps as he is.

Speaker 3 (22:34):
Stanford p brings up a good one, Mike Jack. He's
somebody who certainly will definitely command a lot of attention,
particularly if they try to keep Drake London away from j. C. Horn.
Kyle Pitts as well might end up getting some attention
from Mike Jack.

Speaker 2 (22:51):
This is a big week for Mike Jack.

Speaker 5 (22:52):
Yeah, because he played well in the first matchup between
these two sides.

Speaker 4 (22:56):
Now, part of that was because the Panthers were getting.

Speaker 5 (22:58):
A lot of pressure, but I think that that's far
from a guarantee with this group. You need him to
be really solid in this game, especially because Drake London's
playing some really good football right now.

Speaker 3 (23:10):
Max said, uh, they're not using him right crossers, flanks,
get it in his hands differently. Here's the thing, I
don't know if he's I don't know if he's the
wide receiver screen guy. Like he needs to be the
stretch the field guy. Yes, he needs he needs to
be the guy who you say to heck with it.
I'm going deep kind of what what what Schuck did

(23:31):
last week where they just said, you know what, we
know you can't stop us deep. We're gonna throw it
and try and stretch the field. Now, granted, the paints
have to be able to block for it. Prices to
be able to get it over the line. There's a
lot of other factors outside of that, but they're.

Speaker 2 (23:41):
Not even taking those shots. What zavily get? What's next?

Speaker 4 (23:44):
All right?

Speaker 2 (23:45):
The what?

Speaker 5 (23:46):
What did last week tell us about how Dave can
Alice views his quarterback?

Speaker 3 (23:51):
He he told us that he has wavering faith in
Bryce show and he can redeem himself and and eshew
that belief with a more diverse game plan for the
Atlanta Falcons. This is the team that over the course

(24:12):
of his career, Bryce Young has done the best against.
The Week eighteen matchup was probably his best game of
his NFL career. We talked about it earlier in the program.
I think it was a quarterback rating of one twenty
four point nine against the against the Falcons of the
twenty four Oh sorry, what's.

Speaker 2 (24:32):
My three point five?

Speaker 3 (24:33):
The earlier game last year against the Falcons he did
not play.

Speaker 2 (24:38):
That was a game that Andy played. But in twenty
four he was very very good in that game.

Speaker 3 (24:44):
And in twenty twenty three, while the first one it
was a loss, the second one he ended up getting
a victory. He's done very very well against the Falcons.
I think this needs to be a game where you
see that kind of Week E team type contest from
Bryce Young, And I also think you need to see

(25:05):
Dave Canallis be more creative scheme guys, Like, what was
the one thing we heard about from Dave Canallis.

Speaker 2 (25:11):
When it comes to what he was we told we.

Speaker 3 (25:13):
Were heard it was a quarterback whisper and a dude
who can scheme guys open. I'm not seeing that. I'm
seeing a lot of out routes. I'm seeing a lot
of comebacks. I'm seeing a lot of things that, quite frankly,
aren't putting the quarterback in a position where he's trying
to elevate the rest of the team.

Speaker 5 (25:29):
I mean, yeah, I get it to a certain extent, yes,
But remember that we were only a few weeks so
removed from Louke Keighley saying that he was a guy
he really respected what Dave Canallis was doing. Because Dave
Canallis was keeping him on his toes, he didn't even
know what was coming. So I do think that there
are moments like that that we see from Canallis. Maybe

(25:50):
he did become a little more conservative last week because
he thought that with the conservative game plan they would
be able to win, but also man, these guys just
have to be able to create separation, Like you've got
to be able to get open and Jalen Coker.

Speaker 4 (26:02):
I don't know what's going on with Jalen Coker.

Speaker 2 (26:05):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (26:05):
You know, Walker says that he sees him open a lot.
I don't necessarily see the same thing. But I think
that's a guy that's really got to get back to
play in the way that he played at the end
of last year. Because if you get that version of
Jalen Coker, that's going to help your quarterback out and
then you really have no excuses for Bryce.

Speaker 2 (26:25):
Do you think Bryce is gunshy? Maybe?

Speaker 5 (26:27):
Maybe maybe that is part of it. And I hope
that's not the case because I'm.

Speaker 3 (26:31):
Hoping eleven touchdown senatorterception season.

Speaker 4 (26:35):
This is the thing that people need to understand.

Speaker 5 (26:38):
I want Bryce Young to be the guy because that's
the easiest solution for the Panthers is just that he
turns out to be the guy.

Speaker 3 (26:45):
And I think if you're if you're a Panther fan
and don't believe the same, then I don't think you're
really a Panther fan.

Speaker 2 (26:49):
I think you're an anti Bryce person.

Speaker 3 (26:51):
Yeah, I think I think if you're a Panther fan
and aren't rooting for Bryce showing to beat a solution,
I think that's foolhardy, because there is there is no
easier solution to the in air quotes quarterback question. That way,
all right, the when when the Panthers run it? Will
the Falcons have an answer?

Speaker 2 (27:12):
I don't think so.

Speaker 3 (27:14):
I think this is one of the worst run defenses
the Panthers have seen all year, and you saw it
in the earlier part of the season. I mean, this
was part of why the Panthers just completely ran it
all over the Falcons earlier this year. When it comes

(27:34):
to the Atlanta defense thirty first in the league in
percentage of opposing run plays, which means they're behind a
lot and teams run it well against them, they give
up four point nine yards a rush one hundred and
forty six per game. Those are both bottom five in
the league. There are a lot better amans the pass.

(27:58):
And again this might seemanthetical to what I was talking
about earlier, because while I think you need to have
Bryce gain some confidence in this game, the path to
victory here is you need to be able to run
the football against the Atlanta fountains just period stop. And
I know that after what we saw last week, it
might feel like you're reving your head against the wall.

(28:20):
But this team just came up. I think it was
one hundred and seventy eight yards of Jonathan Taylor. They
were very bad in Berlin, and quite frankly, they tried
to hand Indianapolis that game under multiple auspices and occasions,
and the Colts did not take it until late fourth
quarter and overtime.

Speaker 2 (28:40):
It's because the Colts are overrated, That's what I think.
But yeah, no, it's a good point. It's a good point.

Speaker 5 (28:46):
I mean, they had multiple times where they could have
stopped this Colts offense and Jonathan Taylor just goes wild.
Now here's the thing. Do I think that Rico Daudle
is Jonathan Taylor. No, Jonathan Taylor should be this league envy.
He he is playing at that type of level. But
the Cults are overrated. But Jonathan Taylor is the MVP.

Speaker 4 (29:06):
I think that is true.

Speaker 5 (29:07):
I think as of right now, with the numbers that
he's putting up, Yes, But I do think that when
they get to the playoffs, ultimately, Daniel Jones will probably
come up short in one of those games, turn the
ball over a little bit too much and they will lose.
But back to the Panther side of it, I mean
with Rico, I think he's going to be able to
do enough in this game. You go back to that

(29:27):
first game that was one of the most successful games
that Youuba Hubbard had this season, and so I think that.

Speaker 4 (29:35):
They are going to be able to use Rico pretty
decent amount.

Speaker 5 (29:38):
I get it, You've got to manage that quad injury,
so you'll probably see Chuba in there. And sometimes you
should be able to run on this team, And you're right,
even though you want to see it from Bryce. The
way to do that is not to force him to
have to throw the ball all the time. That doesn't
make any sense. You lean on your strengths, lean into
the strengths of your offense, and see if he can

(30:00):
assimilate to the offense himself. So I think hopefully this
is a game where they do come out with that
plan to run the football heavy until the Falcons show
that they can stop it and really open up the
passing game off of it, because I think that was
part of the reason why the passing game was so bad.

Speaker 4 (30:16):

Speaker 2 (30:18):
What's next? All right?

Speaker 5 (30:20):
Hold on, I went off my screen for a second.
Where where do the Falcons scare you?

Speaker 1 (30:26):
So?

Speaker 3 (30:27):
I don't know if I believe that the Falcons pass
defense is just so good because they're run defense is
so bad and you're dealing with more limited opportunities. But
they are sixth in the league and takeaways per contest.
They are first in the league of allowing the least
amount of passing yards per contest, and they're also second

(30:51):
second in the league in passes per game and also
second in sack percentage.

Speaker 2 (30:55):
So from that perspective, that gives.

Speaker 3 (30:58):
You at least a little bit of a fear factor
in if the Panthers cannot contain the pressure and Bryce
has no time to throw when he has to, it
could mean a very very low scoring game on a
long day for the Panther offense, particularly if they cannot
run it vis A vis Wi happened last week.

Speaker 2 (31:14):
Also.

Speaker 3 (31:16):
Jean Robinson, Drake London, Kyle Pitts, those are always going
to scare me when I know what they're going up against.
Kyle Pitts really scares you because I just don't know
if they have somebody who I trust was going to
match up with it.

Speaker 5 (31:31):
Because they've been better against tight ends recently. So I'm
not necessarily as worried.

Speaker 1 (31:36):
I get it.

Speaker 5 (31:36):
Juwan Johnson had a big play in the game this
past week. But Kyle Pitts there's it's not past the
point of being scared of.

Speaker 3 (31:44):
It's not about Kyle necessarily. It's more about the Panthers
versus the title.

Speaker 2 (31:48):
Does Drake London not scare you more?

Speaker 3 (31:51):
I said Drake London, I said, I said Drake London.
I gave it, I gave I gave you the list,
I said, Jean Drake and Kyle Pitts. Oh, my bad,
my bad, I said all three of them. But I
would say I'm scared of all three of them. Now
here's the thing.

Speaker 5 (32:05):
You're not scared of the quarterback that's getting them the
football though, So that could certainly help you in this
game now much so are they going to be able
to get them off as off schedule as they were
in the first game of the season here, that's a question.

Speaker 4 (32:19):
But I do think you're right.

Speaker 5 (32:20):
You do worry about this offensive line holding up against
that front, which is really starting to get after that point.

Speaker 3 (32:27):
And I also think that they rattled Pennix with the
pick six early, and I think if he's allowed to
get some confident throws early, that doesn't pour tend well
for the Carolina Panthers.

Speaker 4 (32:41):
All Right, the why why are people making this a
make or break game for Bryce?

Speaker 3 (32:47):
Because it is because this is the last best opportunity.
We talked about it earlier in the show. This is
the last best opportunity with the schedule being the way
it is, for him to get confidence. I don't know
if it happens against the San Francisco forty nine ers.
I don't know if it happens on the road at
New Orleans. Maybe it can, but we showed when I

(33:08):
basically everything was in front of you and you played
a very bad New Orleans team and you laidennagge at home.
You can't project that you're gonna go out on the
road and do it there. Don't think it happens in
either Buccaneer game. I don't think it happens against the
Seattle Seahawks, despite them having to come west to east.
This is the last best opportunity for Bryce Young to
get confidence toward a very I would say I wouldn't

(33:32):
say difficult, but it's a it's a calculated final six games.
You don't have a sure win on the schedule. In
the final six games, You've got to toss up two
other divisional games and games that you probably would be
either projected to lose or another toss up with Seattle.
So there's not and not to say that this is

(33:52):
a sure win, but this is probably the one game
that at least tilts the most towards you outside of
the New Orleans game remaining on your schedule, And if
it does not happen here, it's very hard to project
that it happens anywhere else.

Speaker 5 (34:06):
Well, because the other thing is is if you go
into the game against New Orleans and let's say he
has a great performance in that game, you're just going
to say to yourself, well, New Orleans is a horrible
football team. This team, I don't think they're horrible. I
think that they have lost a lot of close games.
They are a team that I don't think has the
greatest quarterback play. But still this defense is going to

(34:28):
test him. So if Bryce Young comes out puts up
a great performance, then we can sit back and finally say, ah,
that's what we needed.

Speaker 2 (34:35):
We needed that moment of relief. So well, we'll see.

Speaker 1 (34:38):
Man.

Speaker 5 (34:38):
I think this is kind of just knowing Bryce, we've
been through this roller coaster the last few years.

Speaker 4 (34:44):
I think this will be a game where he will
come out and perform well.

Speaker 5 (34:48):
Things will swing back in the other direction and people
will say, well, look, man, he's winning these close games.

Speaker 4 (34:53):
You know this is something that we got to value.

Speaker 5 (34:55):
And later on in the year he'll have another game
that I'll leave you scratch in your head and we'll
be right back to the same spot.

Speaker 4 (35:03):
That's just that's what you're gonna deal with with Bryce.

Speaker 3 (35:05):
He can't he can't completely Men in Black style mind
scramble the bad parts of his past from me with
a good game on Sunday. But he can at least
give me the first fruits of Hey, this is me
turning it around with a good game on Sunday. Those

(35:25):
are the game day dubs here on a football Friday
with the Panthers and the Falcons. Remember to head down
to Twin Peaks for our coverage on Sunday eleven to
one for that KB and Chris McClain as well, getting
you set for that game on Sunday. We'll come back
Hornets in Milwaukee tonight, LaMelo return or you have you

(35:48):
have something?

Speaker 1 (35:49):
I have a.

Speaker 5 (35:49):
Neogenics college football injury report for you just before we
run here.

Speaker 2 (35:54):
Go ahead, Sorry about that? No, all good?

Speaker 5 (35:56):
All good with neogenics, where all you have to lose
is the pain is the pain? Speaking of pain, guy
that went through a lot for the Tariles, that would
be Thatteus Dixon. He is expected to come back this week.
Many people believe he will be out there. He is
officially listed as questionable on the injury report that was
released last night. Caleb cost the nickel corner also listed

(36:19):
as questionable in terms of wake Forest Wes lets you
in on the fact that there are two key injuries
at the wide receiver position. Wide receiver Micah Mays Junior
will not play. He's officially out for this game. Chris
Barnes is questionable. That's their leading receiver, So that certainly
is something to keep an eye on as you go
into this matchup. Again that game four point thirty tomorrow

(36:43):
on the CW from Winston Salem where you can catch
our guy Wes Bryant.

Speaker 3 (36:47):
And apparently also Chandler Morris getting closer potentially to a
progression to play for the Virginia Duke game. That's obviously
a very very big part of that.

Speaker 5 (36:56):
Till Hollywood Smothers and Justin Joe Lee both listed as
question for NC State, but as of today they did
say they are expected to play, so a good sign
for NC State fans too.

Speaker 3 (37:07):
Now we take a time out, Hornets and Bucks. Tonight,
LaMelo expected back as is Yannis Sports Day ninety to
seven WFNZ Sports Radio ninety two seven wfn Z. By

(37:44):
the way, hearing that New York butcher Shop commercial reminds
me that, uh, Johnny P went up and picked up
our h our choice farms fresh turkey from the New
York butcher Shop.

Speaker 2 (37:56):
I think up what up?

Speaker 5 (37:57):
And ordered?

Speaker 3 (37:57):
I sho, how about that? It's good stuff. We went
that route this past year for the first time. Not bad,
very very good gobble gobble. We do our own sides,
though we don't. We don't, not not that they don't
put out great sides. We're just we're not a big
mac and cheese family.

Speaker 2 (38:17):
And by we, I mean that's a northern thing. My
arn either my mother, me and my wife with but
my father does not. If you know anything about the
way our house works when it comes out of food.
Johnny p is regimented.

Speaker 5 (38:33):
So what so when you do, excuse me, when you
do Thanksgiving, do you do like a traditional Italian Thanksgiving
where you have.

Speaker 4 (38:46):
Pasta dishes and everything like that. No, we don't.

Speaker 5 (38:49):
Now we don't either, and people find that shocking. But yeah,
we just go with the turkey. And then what kind
of sides do you go with? We're big mashed potato,
sweet potato type of thtu, so.

Speaker 2 (38:59):
We do mashed potatoes. We do yams for my mother.
My mother loves to sweep of teddy yams.

Speaker 1 (39:05):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (39:06):
My wife is a big green bean casserole fan. We
didn't have we didn't have that necessarily growing up, but
she loves the GBC. That needs to it needs to
be a staple on on hers.

Speaker 2 (39:14):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (39:14):
The the jellied in the cairn cranberry sauce. Yeah, that's
that's gotta be meat and and and the homemade stuffing.
And by homemade, I don't mean stuff top like we
we go all the way down to the bread crumb,
that kind of stuff.

Speaker 4 (39:30):
Yeah, that's it.

Speaker 3 (39:31):
I mean that's exactly what we roll with too. So
that makes that makes one hundred percent sense to me. Now,
I might I might make a little smoked mac and cheese,
just you know, just to give a little just to
give a little bit of a little bit, you know,
just a little bit of something, a little bit more starch,
you know, a little more starch. I don't know if
there's really anything else that I feel like I'm missing

(39:51):
on my plate outside of the guys.

Speaker 2 (39:53):
Have any sort of like rolls or we do the
Crescent roll, we do the we do the Kings of Waian,
we do the Kings of Wine.

Speaker 4 (40:00):
Oh okay, yeah that makes sense.

Speaker 5 (40:02):
Yeah, that's that's I think you've got just about everything
that you need. Now when it comes to dessert, what
type of dessert is your family into?

Speaker 3 (40:11):
So my dad does not like pumpkin, so he needs
an apple pie. Yeah, yep, I like pumpkin and apple.
My wife does this thing that is I don't know
if you've ever heard this. She does a pumpkin dump cake.

Speaker 5 (40:28):
I've heard of the dump cake before. I don't know
if I've heard of pumpkin though.

Speaker 3 (40:32):
Basically, it's instead of like you basically put everything in
it together and then you mix it up and it's
it becomes like this one big amalgamation.

Speaker 2 (40:42):
Oh okay, it's incredible. It's incredible.

Speaker 3 (40:45):
Buck Eye Dave goes, WILLI pe needs the dry brisket
on Thanksgiving, Thanks book Dave the easy layup there, Uh,
hustle and flow goes. Have you ever made smoke deviled eggs?
I have not made them. I've had fried devil eggs.

Speaker 2 (41:01):
I am not a deviled eggs guy. Man, I can't
do it.

Speaker 3 (41:04):
We will do I like, I like deviled eggs. I
think of deviled eggs more as an Easter thing for me. Interesting,
like that might not be a bad idea, might I
might try out some devild eggs for the during the day.

Speaker 2 (41:16):
A little little little charcoot.

Speaker 3 (41:20):
Josh from Chack goes, we're trying out a Thanksgiving poutine
this year.

Speaker 2 (41:23):
Interesting, Well that's new. I mean it's Canadian, so.

Speaker 3 (41:29):
I mean, I'm guessing it's just I'm guessing they're just
doing regular poutine, you know, with French French fries, gravy, cheese, curds, whatnot.

Speaker 2 (41:38):
It's amazing. Bebop from Rock Throw goes White Castle Stuffing.

Speaker 1 (41:41):
Guys.

Speaker 3 (41:41):
You Yankees should appreciate that. If you don't know about it,
look it up. White Castle stuffing. Oh that's I mean,
sounds intriguing to me. I'm a I'm a big white
castle guy. I have a big white castle. So allow
one slider for each pound of turkey. This is actually
on the white Castle website. Ten to twelve white castle

(42:02):
sliders sell. So instead of so, instead of using sausage,
you use white castles basically, and and instead instead of
using sausage and breadcrumbs, you use basically the sliders.

Speaker 2 (42:14):
Actually does not look awful. I might give it a shot.
I wouldn't. I wouldn't.

Speaker 3 (42:19):
I wouldn't throw it. I wouldn't throw it away. I'd
give it. I'd give it a I'd give it more
than a casual. Look, who's your Bobbie goes choice choice
of wine Willy, Well, you know, yes, a nice pino
grigio or no, no, no, no, no, no no no
you need you need to need a red wine with
Oh okay, uh David, He goes fry devil eggs.

Speaker 2 (42:41):
What that's the thing?

Speaker 3 (42:42):
Yeah, you take you you you deep fry the shell right,
and then you put the filling in over it.

Speaker 2 (42:52):
You ever had you ever had that?

Speaker 4 (42:53):
I am no, I'm not.

Speaker 3 (42:54):
I am not a hard boiled egg fella. Really no, no,
you can't do it neither. Neither is my cannot do it. Nope,
Brian Goes. My mom makes these amazing pumpkin cookies. They're
so soft and warm, and cream cheese icing takes it
to another level. So my wife, you lost me with
the cream cheese. So you ever had you ever had
an apple cider donut? I have before, Yes, So my

(43:19):
wife made apple cider. It's kind of like a brownie, basically,
like an apple cider blondie. It was really really good.

Speaker 4 (43:27):
Interesting. Yeah that sounds good man.

Speaker 2 (43:29):
I'm a big apple cider guy myself. Glenn Goes, gravy
can save almost any turkey. He's gonna. I'm gonna.

Speaker 3 (43:37):
I'm gonna lose Glenn with this. I I I don't
like making my own gravy just because it's I feel
like it's it's false hustle.

Speaker 2 (43:46):
I feel like it's false, huscle. Explain that, what do
you mean?

Speaker 4 (43:50):
What do you mean it's false?

Speaker 2 (43:51):
Hustle? Like, I don't know if it tastes as good
as the stuff that comes out of the jar. Oh okay, yeah,
I mean I I don't know what we do. I
think we do. Like the Hinds. G I think we
do added the jar, but I'm not the Hinds, the
Hines gravy out of the jar. I I just think
it is incredible.

Speaker 3 (44:07):
So okay, maybe maybe that's maybe that's me being lame,
but what it is, I do Bron, we do Brian,
and we do inject, and we do put the butter
underneath the skin.

Speaker 2 (44:19):
So there's that. Oh that sounds great.

Speaker 3 (44:23):
I know we were supposed to talk hornets here. I
will talk hornets a little bit. LaMelo is back tonight. Obviously,
that changes things from a Charlotte perspective. Giannics is back tonight.
That optually changes things in the opposition perspective. I don't
I don't know if I favor them tonight, but I
feel like if LaMelo plays both games, and I don't

(44:45):
know if he's going to, you want him to at
least feel like, I think this is the game you
feel like you have a chance in because of how
you played the other night. Milwaukee did not look overly
threatening without Giannis. It was because they didn't have you
ho Us. But I think LaMelo verse Giannis feels like

(45:06):
a neutralizer. Feels like those two can cancel each other
out and if and if that's the case, maybe Eline
hornets tonight on the road.

Speaker 1 (45:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (45:15):
The on the road thing is the thing that makes
it difficult. If this way he was at home with
LaMelo back then, I think you would feel like you
would take Charlotte. But I think with and that's the thing.

Speaker 4 (45:28):
I think.

Speaker 5 (45:29):
Honestly, you saw the other night that without Yannis you
could have probably won the game in Milwaukee if they
didn't have him again, So I'll be interested to see.
I think I think it should be a fantastic matchup.
We've talked about how when LaMelo comes back, he always
seems to put together strong performances that first game back.
So maybe this is just one of those games where

(45:50):
he comes out and performs well. The thing is, though,
I mean, are we one hundred percent sure that he's
coming back tonight. Have they said that he's definitely going
to be in the lineup or is it hey, he's
gonna play one of these next two games. Got to
figure it out, because more than likely, I think they'd
probably lean with the home.

Speaker 3 (46:05):
Game said probable before Okay, so then that that that
looks promising, So maybe you can get him back for both.
I think that would be huge, and yeah, maybe it
gives you a shot tonight, kaytown. Steve is is angry
that I do not go with the homemade gravy. He
also said that chicken and waffles is straight trash though,

(46:26):
so that what that did that take come?

Speaker 2 (46:29):
That was a I was listening. It was it was
on Bailey Show yesterday. Happened.

Speaker 3 (46:33):
Happened Actually right after I got off their they started
talking chicken and waffles, and I felt very insulted that
I wasn't consulted on the chicken and waffle. You bring
out all the food conversations at the station, man, Chicken
and waffles is amazing.

Speaker 2 (46:44):
Yes, a hundred.

Speaker 3 (46:46):
They've started doing something at the Hornet games where it's
chicken and waffles and it's actually the the chicken from
the chicken and waffles and the mac and cheese stuffed
into a waffle.

Speaker 5 (46:58):
Yeah, we had it to experience it here. Was tremendous,
very tremendous. Thank you to the Hornets for that. Again,
I think it would be even better at the game. Oh,
it was good, so taking it, you know, taking in
some Charlotte Hornets basketball. I got to get out to
a game this year. I haven't been out to one.
I will say this, the arena looks amazing. And I'm

(47:19):
not saying that because we're a partner and I'm getting
any kind of kickback from them saying it.

Speaker 2 (47:24):
The arena looks amazing. It's it looks like a brand
new building.

Speaker 3 (47:28):
If you have not been there for a game this season,
Tomorrow's a good opportunity defending champions. We'll see whether or
not the Hornets can maybe get a little momentum, maybe
mel place in the second game of back to back,
who knows. We'll see what happens there. Fash Ti Hurt
comes your way next. We'll talk more Panthers with her
as the Panthers and Falcons get ready to square off
on Sunday in a very big game for both of them.
And Week eleven sports right now on it Just seven WFZ.

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
