Speaker 1 (00:00):
You were listening to the Wes and Walker show. I
want to have a barking contest. It's Wes, this is
the West Bulldog Bryant, what you got, It's so much better,
it's the best. And Walker, this is Fiddy's bark. If
Fiddy was a dog behind the fence, would you enter
this cage? Go ahead, Fiddy, show me your bark. That
(00:28):
was since I don't know if I can beat that
only on Sports Radio ninety two point seven FM WFNC.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
So there are two things that have developed in the
last literally ninety seconds that need to be addressed. Before
we talked to vashtire Heart oh No. Number one. Walker
Mail has been made aware that we talked to Mussadiabatte
without him, and he is incredibly disappointed. He's incredibly disappointed.
That's his guy, man, I know, I know it please me.
(01:08):
Somebody who sits next to Walker Bill for a lot
of the games. I know the moves of the Abatte
is Walker's guy. I what I did, I look at
that that was nice. What I said was I asked,
I asked for a player. I said, I'm not picky,
and they said it's probably gonna be Musa or one
other player, and I said, don't really care, and they
(01:30):
said Musa. And there it is also apparently Bebop from
Rock Thrill. Just let it be known that he is
a Yankee who was born on Long Island, whose parents
moved down here when he was two years old.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
Oh wow, what an upset.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
That is so something that I have in common now
with be About from Rock Thrill. That we mean too,
but we well, well, I have two things. You have,
you one thing. I have two things. We're both living
Rock Hill and both from Long Island. And you've course
worn on Long Island as well.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
So that's right.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
It's difficult, difficult thing. How will we recover? This is
how we recover. We talked to Vashti Herd, who will
keep it all a buck with us on Sports right
at ninety to seven WFNZ, So we get you ready
for Panthers and Falcons. What's going on, vash Tie, how
are you?
Speaker 4 (02:24):
It's been a busy day, but we keep blitzing.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
I'm big, I'm big on it. People are making this
game out to be Bryce Young's crossroads moment. Do you
think it's that big or do you think it's more
about totality of the final seven games.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
Yeah, I think I'm not ready to say that this
is all or nothing for Bryce Young always said, and
this was at the beginning of the season that I
wanted to see a full season's worth of work from
Bryce Young. Just two weeks ago, you know, everybody was
happy and now everybody's mad again. So listen, they're ups
and downs during the season. This is not a make
(03:01):
or break game for Bryce. Now when you go and
look at the report card for the whole season, that
might be another story. But I just want to before
I'm gonna reserve judgment until we have a full season's
worth of work. As far as Bryce Young is concerned.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
You're saying everybody's bad. Are you inferring that their anger
is not justified?
Speaker 4 (03:24):
No, I mean when you put a product on the
field like they did last week. It seems like when
the Panthers have an opportunity to really make us splash,
they they kind of fall short. And I'm also thinking about,
you know, the season with Steve Wilkes and they had
the Protector Bank. I think it was the Steelers that
came to town and it was and it was awful.
So now I mean when you put that that product
(03:44):
on the field there, there's gonna be criticism and and
and justified. But you know, you gotta question what is
it all? Bryce Young? Is Dave Canalis in there? Some?
Is it both of them? We don't know. But as
far as make or break game for Bryce Young today,
I just think that that's a bit of a reach.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
And it's weird because part of me thinks this is
a week where he can gain some confidence. But then
looking at the opposition vash Tie, I see a Falcon
team who has a higher pensivety giving up many rushing yards.
We saw it in the first matchup between these two.
We saw it last week against the colt with Jonathan Taylor.
It almost seems like, hey, they can take the game
(04:24):
plan they had it against the New Orleans Saints and
hope it works against the Falcons. The problem is, I
hope they at least bring a Plan B to the
table if it goes like it did last week for
the Panthers against New Orleans.
Speaker 4 (04:37):
Yeah, I mean the playbook is out on the Panthers
right well, or so as of right now. Stop the
run and they become one dimensional or they are one
dimensional team. Stop to run and you don't have anything.
So now this is where Dave Canalis and his offensive
staff have to come up with another game plan. They
have to make it so that they aren't just one dimensional.
(05:00):
That doesn't mean you abandoned the run, but you are
you have to have other options as far as as
far as an offense is concerned. And Bryce has looked
questionable and there they aren't getting deep passes, are they
even is Bryce even able to to throw that d
ball and be productive? Those all those all things that
we just don't know yet. And so they the Panthers,
(05:24):
they're gonna have to be balanced on offense for sure
if they're gonna have a chance that winning this game.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
You mentioned as we're talking with Vashti I heard about
the Panthers and the Falcons that it could be factors
outside of Bryce that are leading to the Panthers passing
offense not being what it's cracked up to be. I
mentioned earlier that the player that probably needs to step
up the most offensively for the Panthers outside of Bryce
is Xaviorly, get if I had to ask you to
fill on a blank. Are Panther fans being too hard
(05:51):
or not hard enough? On XL.
Speaker 4 (05:54):
Well, I think they've been very hard on XCEL, and
so I don't think not hard enough is the answer.
Too hard I would have said that the first few games,
I would said, you know, and and I did say that,
let up on XL. You know, give him time. I
didn't think that a lot of people were being reasonable.
But we haven't seen the production that we would have
(06:16):
expected from him during his second season, and so, you know,
is it lack of opportunity? Because t Mack has gotten his,
but he hasn't gotten his the last couple of weeks.
So is it the fact that he hasn't been able
to make those plays? But when he has been able
to make those plays, he hasn't made them. I don't
think it's a mixed bag for me for XL because
(06:36):
he's a hard worker. But if you can't get it
done on Sunday, then people are going to criticize you,
and so far he hasn't been able to get it
done on Sunday. I think the criticism is criticism is justified.
I don't think there needs to be any more or
any less.
Speaker 2 (06:50):
Where do you feel like the Falcons are most threatening
against the Panthers?
Speaker 4 (06:56):
Probably in the run game. The Panthers have been able
to stop the run, but then they had letups, right
they They've had letups where allah the Buffalo Bills where
they allowed a career day for their running back. So
the Panthers are gonna have to to be consistent against
stopping the run and try to make the Falcons one dimensional.
(07:17):
And there's a lot being made of their pass rush,
and I think they're one of the best in the
league when it comes to stacking opposition quarterbacks. So yeah,
they're gonna have to I say the rushing the ball
won and then one b would be their pass rush,
and I think those are both things that the Panthers
can take care of. You asked if it was a
(07:40):
make or break game for Bryce Young. I don't think
it's a make or break game for Bryce Young, but
it might be one of those make or break games
for the Panthers as far as even being in the
conversation for a playoff spot. If they don't win this game,
I think it's a wrap and I think both teams
are gonna be desperate, but this is this is the
one They're gonna have to stop the run and they're
(08:00):
going to have to protect Brice if they have any
chance of.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
Winning, especially with an opportunity that exists again with Tampa
Bay playing on the road at Buffalo and the Panthers
playing the Falcons. Chance to get to within a game
of the division lead obviously gives you an opportunity to
have that, not only with the two games remaining head
to head. You know, thinking about where the Panthers are
at five and five, ashed, I've heard a lot of
(08:23):
people this week say, Hey, if you would have told
me that Panthers be five and five after ten weeks,
I would have taken it. Independent of the circumstance. How
do the Panthers look with respect to where you thought
they'd be at this point maybe before the season.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
Yeah, they're about where I thought they would be. Record wise,
Consistency wise, No, they've had lapses and where you know,
they might have looked good the week before and then
the next week they look like they've taken one hundred
steps back. So I feel like they would be a
more consistent team by now. But as far as the
record is concerned, I think that they're on track that
(09:01):
you know, I had maybe eight nine wins this season.
That's still very doable. At this point. So I think
they're on track wins and losses. They just have to
fix that consistency. And you mentioned Tampa Bay. I always
instead coming into this stretch with Tampa Bay really from
injuries and then they they're also going into a tough
part of their schedule. Depand has had an opportunity to
(09:23):
really kind of close that gap between themselves and the Bucks.
And but they have to win the games that they're
supposed to win, and they haven't done so this so far.
But Atlanta as a must win.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
And no Irving and no god win this week for
Tampa in Buffalo, so that makes things even more difficult
for them. Found out earlier today that no Trevin Wallace,
no late than Ransom. Obviously, it feels like Wallace is
the bigger loss there. How much of a loss is
it to you?
Speaker 4 (09:52):
Honestly, I think that yeah, Wallace is a big loss.
And because he wears a green dottis on the defense
and so they really haven't told us, and I haven't
had an opportunity to listen to Canalis's press conference, but
I'm sure he wouldn't have told us anyway, Who's gonna
wear the green dot this week? Whether it will be
(10:13):
Rose Boom or will be Clawdon churlis who will be
filling in for filling in for Trevin Wallace. But this
is the next man up league, and so Clawdon is
gonna have to get it done in Trevin Wallace's place.
And you know, Lathan Ransom isn't as big of a
loss because you still have married in that bag who
(10:34):
has been playing lights out. But yeah, that's gonna be
a tough loss. But I still I don't think that
that is game changing for the Panthers defense. It starts
up front. They're healthy upfront. That's where dB, That's where
A'shawn Robinson, That's where Turk, That's where those got Bobby Brown.
That's where those guys have to make it easier as
(10:56):
you had to put a more into the back end
of that defense.
Speaker 2 (10:59):
A lot of conversations surrounded Mike Jackson's role on this
team too. Vasht just based on the fact that we
had the whole will JC get a passport and travel
discussion and things about the scheme and things of that nature,
that this could be a week to maybe once again
prove to him and prove to the rest of the
league that Hey, they do at least have a thread
on that side if you try to stay away from JC,
(11:22):
particularly with a couple of very big scale vision players London, Pitts,
et cetera, that the Falcons bring to the table.
Speaker 4 (11:29):
Yeah, and you know, Mike Jack, he's had his moment.
He's not J. C. Horn and I don't think he's
trying to be. He wants to be a formidable, you know,
second guy in that secondary, second cornerback, and he has
you know, I think that we as media and fans,
when you have a bad game, you kind of multiply
that even more. But he's had a solid year. He
(11:52):
gets picked on at times, which we have seen him
get picked on, but he's a solid cornerback. He's a
solid number two cornerback in games like this, so where
you make your money. But I think that he's going
to have a decent game for the Panthers. I don't
think they will lose because Mike Jack is getting torched.
Speaker 2 (12:11):
One other thing, I hate to go back to the offense,
but something we found out in Dave Canalis's presser is
that he did say that Chandler Savalla will be back
in the starting lineup after a full week of practice
a right guard in place of Austin Corbett. It's it's
kind of been, unfortunately a revolving door at that right
guard position. Because of the injury to Rob Hunt than
the injury to Brady Christensen, Zavalla has been in and
(12:32):
out of the lineup, as has Corbett. How do you
feel about that move? Do you feel like that could
be a potential leaky portion of that offensive lot As
you mentioned, of course, this Falcons defensive line definitely knows
how to get pressure.
Speaker 4 (12:45):
Yeah, Honestly, as a right guard position, I think Zavala
is a better option for the Panthers than Austin Corbett,
and that's why they're gonna put him there. Austin Corbett
has had a rough season, He's had battled injuries himself.
I think that when it comes to sturing up that
offensive line, you want Zavalla in there. I don't think
that that's gonna I don't think that's a drop off
(13:06):
at all. I do think it might even be a
slight improvement. So I don't that's not that's not that's
not a concern there. Plus, you want Austin there as
a backup center just in case something happens with with
Kate Mays, who has been in and out of the alignment,
in and out of the lineup due to injuries himself.
Speaker 2 (13:25):
Fash T I Hurt, Carolina Blitz, Keith Blitzen. I know
it's a big, big weekend for you because you not
only have what's going on with the with the Panthers,
but also a pulse on all the college action going
on as well.
Speaker 4 (13:36):
Absolutely, I'm headed up to Durham and Chapel Hill. I'll
be at Duke for the seven o'clock game, and then
I'll catch the end of the UNC game in Central tonight.
So follow make sure you're following Carolina Blitz for updates.
Speaker 2 (13:47):
She is getting all of that action with them, of course.
Appreciate the time, Vashti, thank you and we'll talk soon,
all right, Thanks for having me as Vashti Hurt joining
us here of course on Western Walker Sports ninety seven WFZ.
Fantastic stuff with vash Tie will come back, get our
last look and also the live wire as we get
(14:08):
you ready for Panthers Falcons this weekend. Sports Ready on
ninety to seven WFNZ. Sports Ready on ninety two to
(14:28):
seven wfn Z Adack goes, I'm tired of guessing, and
I'm asking, now, how are you all exactly pronouncing the
young lady's last name in the last thing. Vash Tie
Hurt is her name? Vashti Hurt?
Speaker 5 (14:43):
Is that really that confusing? I thought it was pretty
straight for me. Va s h t I dash Tie
one of our good friends here. It's not like it's
pelagic people.
Speaker 4 (14:57):
You know what.
Speaker 5 (14:57):
I'm proud of myself though, because every time that we
have you on, I always spell out your last name,
and I nail it every time. That's great. So you
have no visital visual evidence to confirm that, do you
I think so? I mean I could pull I could
pull up the last time I'm gonna.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
I'm not going to say I need receipts. I'm just
I'm messing with you. Whenever I go on TV, on
on Queen Cea News, they refuse to say my last name.
They never want to say my last.
Speaker 3 (15:24):
Name, so they just go willipy oh, okay, yeah.
Speaker 4 (15:29):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (15:29):
Bobby Walker is very very mad at me because I
had his guys about that, and I didn't mean to
have moussan.
Speaker 6 (15:35):
I just I I called it the hardest to say. Hey,
I'm going to be on the air. You want to
flood of player my way? And they said, you know what,
I said, We'll talk to the side. Brian Travis said,
is Walker there, No, we'll give a Musa.
Speaker 2 (15:51):
Give Musa. That's right, That's that's calculating.
Speaker 3 (15:53):
We know how it works.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
That's calculating. And Musa did very very well.
Speaker 3 (15:56):
I'm just kidding, of course.
Speaker 2 (15:58):
By the way, yes, of course. Uh, last look at
this game. I'm picking the Panthers to win this game. Wow,
I'm picking the count for everything. That's kind of shocking.
I got, what what do you mean you have?
Speaker 5 (16:11):
You have seemed relatively down on the team, mainly down
on Bryce today. I did not think that you would
think he'd be able to do enough to win this game.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
I think it's more about how I feel about the
Falcons that I do about the Panthers. Okay, I think
it's I think I am less. I'm less threatened by
the Falcons in this spot than i am, say New Orleans,
because New Orleans had every reason to treat last weekend
like it was their super Bowl. Going on the road.
(16:41):
You got, you know, Tyler shuck and you know he's
got a limited sample size that there was. There was
every opportunity that that that was a screaming, screaming letdown
spot for the Carolina Panthers last weekend. Now again, the
fact that a lot of people didn't see it right
away or refuse to it. Even myself hand raise wasn't
(17:03):
projecting a letdown. But I'm not gonna sit here and
say that not. In the back of my head, I thought,
you know, this could be a situation where it tip
up and stubb their toe. I think you are a
more aware of football team this week. I think all
the things that I said about Bryce and the current
trajectory of the football team can be true because of
(17:24):
how uninspired I feel about the Atlanta Falcons in this spot.
And I think a lot of it comes down to
the fact that if you're comparing Bryce and Pennix, I
believe in Bryce more than I believe in Michael Pennock's
ability to beat the Panther.
Speaker 3 (17:38):
Oh man, that really means you don't believe in Michael
pennockx whoo.
Speaker 5 (17:43):
Which I mean, look is fair man, based off of
the first matchup that they had this year. I mean,
it's okay to be out on Michael Pennock Junior. You know,
with Bryce, I think it's now no weird spot Now
Bjon I fear, but Jean can hurt the Panther Now.
The thing that I will say is they did a
really good job against the match. Yeah, I think they
(18:05):
will be able to do a similar job against him
because we know that the Falcons get really weird with
how they distribute carries. So well, we'll see what that
ultimately looks like. But I mean, yeah, would it stun
me if Baijan had a big day? No, James Cook
ran for over two hundred yards on this on this defense,
(18:25):
there's there's still there's still something about that run defense
of the Panthers that makes me And again I felt
that going into the Buffalo game, there's something about the
way that a Giro Rivero.
Speaker 2 (18:37):
Whether it's a scheme, whether it's talent I don't know,
or iters, but there's something about them that always makes
me think that they're primed to give up two hundred
to somebody.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
Well, and here's the other thing.
Speaker 5 (18:45):
Now, you don't have Trevin Wallace in there, who is
playing better here during these last few weeks. He's the
guy that's communicating everything. Now, you either have to go
back to Christian rose Boom. Now, the thing is is
that during that first matchup, I believe rose Boom was
still calling the defense correct and they slowed him down.
Speaker 3 (19:03):
So maybe that's not the end of the world.
Speaker 5 (19:05):
But I don't know what to expect from your guy,
Clauden Scherless, the former Jet turned Panther. I don't know
what to expect from him in there. So yeah, it's
it's gonna be it's gonna be a nail biting game,
I think for Panther fans. I don't think it's necessarily
gonna be pretty. No, but I think it's more than
possible that the Panthers can come away with the victory
(19:26):
because I felt like.
Speaker 2 (19:28):
This game has seventeen ten, seventeen thirteen written all over well, because.
Speaker 5 (19:31):
Here's the thing about Atlanta, right, did last week, which
means it'll be thirty five to thirty one? Did last
year or last year last week not feel like the
last stand on their season, Like it really felt like
that was their chance to turn it around.
Speaker 3 (19:48):
You beat it, you beat Indy.
Speaker 5 (19:49):
Yeah, everybody starts talking about you again as being a
team that's a little inconsistent but has some big.
Speaker 2 (19:54):
Wins standalone game. Don't don't underrate that part of it.
Speaker 3 (19:56):
Yes, and they've got some big wins.
Speaker 5 (19:59):
You would have that win and you would have to
win over the over the Bills, and you would be
saying to yourself, Okay, you know, a couple of breaks
go our way, we can get back into this thing.
I think last week might have killed the Falcons, And
so what type of mindset are they coming in here with.
Panthers got to be prepared because they could come in
here with a similar mindset to the Saints, but they
could also come in here a pretty dejected team. So
(20:20):
I'm interested to see ultimately what it looks like out there.
I think the Panthers they just got to come in motivated. Man,
you should be poed about what was said last week
from Icky, what was said from Nick s Gorton, that
this team didn't practice hard and that you should see
a very motivated group out there.
Speaker 2 (20:38):
Sun And that's part of the reason also that I
refuse to believe that professionals get ok doped two weeks
in a row against the visional opponents. That's that's kind
because I feel like there are these moments in the
trajectory of a build like progress is never linear when
(20:59):
it comes to trying to turn a program around. And
believe me, as somebody who has given wavering belief to
Bryce Young Dave Canalis at all, I will say that
last week kind of shook my faith a little bit,
But I don't feel like I don't think either person's irredeemable.
(21:21):
And that's what I think differentiates me from a lot
of the people who talk about Bryce the way that
they do and a lot of people who talk about
Canalis the way that they do. I don't think either
person's irredeemable because I think we are still the jury
is still out on both. I would say, I think
you're right, and I think you know.
Speaker 3 (21:39):
With Dave. To me, I think he's trending more towards
the right direction.
Speaker 5 (21:44):
I mean, this dude has this team at five and
five guys, that is not something to take lightly.
Speaker 3 (21:52):
This team has been very, very bad for a while.
Speaker 2 (21:55):
My only question surrounding him is that is it inevitable
that he eventually gives up the play calling duties because
I still have my doubts that he can do both
in the same game.
Speaker 3 (22:04):
Well, maybe he does.
Speaker 5 (22:05):
I think we've seen games so far this year where
he's done a really good job, and you would say, okay,
we should keep them with him.
Speaker 3 (22:11):
There's been games where he's done a bad job.
Speaker 2 (22:13):
I think there's been Dames. I think there's a I
think there's been more games than not where you find
that he loses the field of the game.
Speaker 5 (22:22):
Okay, well that I mean, hey, that's fair. That's fair.
And maybe brad Izach becomes the play caller at some point.
We've seen it before. It's not the craziest thing to
take that off of a head coach's plate, and especially
even though he's an offensive mind and say, look, man,
we want you to just focus on the coaching of
this team.
Speaker 3 (22:39):
Bryce.
Speaker 5 (22:40):
I think you're you're probably leaning in the other direction
with Bryce that maybe he isn't necessarily the guy. But
as Vashti said, I get this game is important. Sure,
there's no doubt about that. Because there are some tough
opponents that are left.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
It can be important, but not the end all beyond.
I don't.
Speaker 3 (22:58):
I don't think.
Speaker 5 (22:59):
And in the show you sounded like it really was
the end all be all I because you said it's
the fork in the road game for me.
Speaker 3 (23:07):
I don't believe. I don't believe it's that dire.
Speaker 2 (23:10):
I don't believe it's the end all be all, but
I'd say it's his last best chance to get confidence.
So I don't believe make it the end all be
all for me. It just makes it. It makes the
hill that much steeper for him to climb to ingratiate
himselves in the eyes of those he has not done
so with our Yeah, and I.
Speaker 3 (23:29):
Think you've got to do that because right now the
full season it's not great.
Speaker 4 (23:32):
Man.
Speaker 3 (23:33):
You're averaging the least amount of yards per attempt in
the league.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
What were we saying before the season regarding Bryce? You
had to figure out what you had by the end
of this year, and if the answer is either not
great or inconclusive, inconclusive and not great are the same thing,
because inconclusive means you don't have a franchise quarterback.
Speaker 5 (23:52):
Now, the thing is is that when you get to
this quarterback market that you're gonna have. Eh, you know,
what are you really looking at and saying this is
attractive to us? I said that the guy that I
would think would be the most attractive to me, but
you would have to trade for him, would be Trevor
Lawrence because I believe that Trevor Lawrence is a guy
that can be what you've seen from Baker Mayfield, from
(24:17):
sam Donold, from Daniel Jones. Daniel Jones might be the
best comparison for Trevor Lawrence because Trevor Lawrence has been
paid already, He's gotten a second a second contract.
Speaker 2 (24:28):
Now.
Speaker 5 (24:28):
I think that Trevor Lawrence has better arm talent than
Daniel Jones does. But it's not like Daniel Jones is
a complete scrub. We've seen He's been good this year.
I think Trevor Lawrence might be that guy, and if
you marry him with a guy like Dave Canalis, it
could be the perfect marriage for them ultimately, but you're
gonna have to trade for him.
Speaker 3 (24:49):
That's the downside.
Speaker 2 (24:50):
That's the thing I would not mind seeing Dave Canalis
have the ability to select a quarterback of his choosing.
Speaker 1 (24:58):
M hmm.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
That's the part of it that that maybe is the
is the redeemable part for Canalis because this quarterback very
much was for stooned on him. Again. He had to
take the job, so, I mean, he knew, he knew,
he knew it wasn't front of him when he had
to take the job. But again I think I would
I'd want to see what that looked like if, in fact,
it does not work out for Branton.
Speaker 5 (25:18):
And remember this is not dance quarterback either. No, he
was a part of the group that picked him, but
this this was not his guy. This was not Bran
Tillis's guy. So that's that's what makes you wonder if
they get to a certain point this season, if they
make their minds up and say, you know what, we're
going in a different direction this offseason.
Speaker 2 (25:37):
Before before e Barnes, before we get the live wire,
I want to address this comment from E. Barns on
the Fandel text line. I hate when media pushes teams
to have someone else be to play college just because
for what reason. Because they are very very very very
very very very few guys who can do both and
do both effectively. Okay, there's probably five of them, italygue,
(26:00):
there's five of them in the league. And I've done
I've done this exercise a couple of times with Smoke.
It's Shanahan, it's O'Connell, it's Andy Reid, Sean Payton, Matt
left Lafleur, and Sean mc I would say McVeigh is
the last one. Steike, I mean, is Stike even on
(26:23):
that list.
Speaker 5 (26:24):
I don't know if he calls plays in India. That's
a good point. I think he does, but I'm not
one hundred percent sure. But but point point being, the
list is a non zero number, less than a half does.
And I don't know if they've Canalys has proven to
me that he can be in that list yet, And
and that's that's that's going into active coaches at any
(26:47):
given time. Most everybody else has a dude who handles
that for them because there are other global things that
happened during the game, decisions that need to be made.
Speaker 2 (26:57):
You have to have your pulse on the entire forty
six man roster. You cannot have yourself completely dove into
a play call sheet as the head coach of the
football team unless you have an extreme aptitude for doing so.
And I don't know if I have that kind of
confidence in Dave Canalis.
Speaker 3 (27:18):
Shane Steiken does call plays for Indy.
Speaker 2 (27:20):
That's so that's one more to the list. But I
don't think Dave can I don't think anybody's mistaking Dave
Canalis for any of those gentlemen that I listed just
a moment ago Live wire time. That's right.
Speaker 3 (27:34):
Oh, hold on, you gotta get the bed here real quick,
to the west west.
Speaker 2 (27:45):
Live wire can Oh there we go.
Speaker 5 (27:47):
Perfect, All right, let's go to to J. C. Horn
and Derek Brown. They were talking in the locker room yesterday.
Asked about what's different this time around with Atlanta.
Speaker 7 (27:56):
They're trying to a lot more right now, get the
ball outside, get the ball and bech on his hands
again on the edge from what I've seen, same thing,
he said, No, yeah, no, they've been trying to get
to the edge. So they've been getting Jake Lennon more involved.
But he didn't have some good games since they played US.
I think Poeni's been a little more comfortable. So just
(28:19):
new teams.
Speaker 3 (28:21):
Oh pronunciation there on that hour. Yeah, that was that
was interesting.
Speaker 5 (28:25):
Well, well if he but what do you think is
most different about Atlanta this time around?
Speaker 3 (28:32):
What do you think will be most different about Atlanta
this time?
Speaker 2 (28:36):
What do I think I think they will try to
get Bejon in more creative situations? Is how it? Because
I think I think they thought they could run it
right down the Panthers' throats and they found out pretty
quickly they couldn't, and they did not. They did not
have a good backup. It's almost similar to what the
Panthers had in the Saints game. They did not have
(28:56):
an adequate backup plan because when they had to put
it all on Michael Pennockx's shoal, they found out he
couldn't and on his left arm he couldn't. So I
think I think a lot of it's going to be,
you know, split and Bijon out doing more things on
the boundary, because the place the Panthers defense has been
most vulnerable has been on the boundary. If you if
you stretch them out sideline to sideline, that is how
(29:19):
you beat in a zero of arrow defense.
Speaker 3 (29:23):
True. All right, let's move on, because we got to
get to your guy.
Speaker 2 (29:28):
Ben Johnson was the one I was thinking of. I
couldn't think of without my head Ben Jonson. Oh there
you go.
Speaker 5 (29:32):
Yeah, he's having a pretty successful season. Tardial guy, by
the way, So I just wanted to point that out.
We got to get to your guy.
Speaker 3 (29:39):
The mayor.
Speaker 5 (29:39):
Though he was talking yesterday and he says that he is,
it is still hugely gratifying to play in Charlotte.
Speaker 8 (29:48):
It's like a continued dream come true. I think is
kind of underestimating it a little bit, like it's it's
greater than everything I've ever thought I could do. I mean,
I was growing up, you know, Charlotte didn't have an
MLS team, and kind of how everything worked out, you know,
there's definitely you know, I'm grateful for it. I'm blessed
(30:11):
and I can only thank God for it.
Speaker 5 (30:13):
All right, Willie, So you have to explain yourself why
were you having to defend Bram Bronico on Twitter yesterday?
Speaker 2 (30:18):
Because people are judging him for playing out, for playing
a position that's not his natural position. They were judging
Hame for having to play the pet Bel position, which
is more of an indictment of their depth than it
is about anything having to do with Bran Bronico. And
I know that he feels terrible about the chance that
he missed in the third game of the postseason, but
(30:38):
in a perfect world, he's not supposed to be making
that play. Pet Bel was supposed to making that play.
So again, I feel like having to defend somebody who
was more games play than anybody in the club's history
and more minutes played and runs like hell all of
the place. I feel like having to do that maybe
feels like something I don't have to do. But there
(30:59):
are people who just don't know ball and don't understand
what his role is on the team.
Speaker 3 (31:03):
Okay, yeah, it makes sense, all right.
Speaker 5 (31:06):
Final SoundBite that we got here, Josh Pate talking about
one of his favorite games for the week, Georgia and Texas.
Speaker 3 (31:14):
Who think who does he think ultimately wins?
Speaker 9 (31:16):
I think homefield is going to matter here. Home field.
A lot to get said about Sandford Stadium, I can
tell you at night, especially big time opponent in town.
Speaker 2 (31:25):
It's a special place. Now.
Speaker 9 (31:27):
Bama went in there and they took care of business
earlier this year. They were razor sharp on third down.
It was the most efficient offensive performance they probably had
all year.
Speaker 3 (31:37):
They still only won by three.
Speaker 9 (31:40):
I don't think Texas can go in there and be
that efficient against Georgia, And if I'm wrong, I'm wrong.
Speaker 2 (31:46):
But I don't think I am.
Speaker 9 (31:47):
But what I do think is Texas will compact the
game and I don't think Georgia will pull away. So
I don't have a strong feel in the game. Other
than those factors that I just said. All lean Georgia,
So I think it's a close game, in a one
possession game. So I'm gonna do the thing where I
take Georgia to win in Texas to cover, which just
means I think it's going to be close and I'm
not betting on it.
Speaker 2 (32:08):
All right.
Speaker 5 (32:08):
So you hear him break down one of the biggest
games of the week, besides watching Matt Zolar's play, what
game are you going to be most excited to watch
this weekend?
Speaker 3 (32:17):
Will he Uh?
Speaker 2 (32:18):
Well, obviously I'll have at least one eye on Wisconsin
Indiana because of my wife.
Speaker 5 (32:23):
You shouldn't have to have too much of a focus.
Indiana should be able to put that one away. But
they should get into that part now where they're playing
so well by the skin of their teeth and something.
Speaker 2 (32:33):
This is is a teetering situation. Georgia Texas is the
one that that has my my look just because of
the intrigue can Ken arch Manning in what will be
the most suffocating atmosphere he will see this season?
Speaker 5 (32:46):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (32:46):
Will that be something that bakes him, that that shakes him?
Nor Day in Pittsburgh intrigues me as well. And I
still come back to you know, this this Miami ENC
State game, because it's it's a situation for NC State
where I think the anti dorn people I thought it
was very, very curious. Earlier in the week, Dave Clawson
(33:07):
was on the Morning show and he had a message
for the NC State people. And again, I'm no dorin Stan.
I feel like there was a like two or three
year straight stretch when I was covering ACC media days
and they stuck me on radio Row with Dave Doran
and he's a bundle of laughs. Let me tell you so,
I'm not necessarily a big Dave dorn stand.
Speaker 3 (33:27):
Huge personality, I mean, just impossible to contain.
Speaker 2 (33:30):
I mean, you know, dynamic personality. What he did say,
he said, be careful what you wish for NC State fans.
If you don't want Dave Doran getting you to a
certain level every year, maybe the grass isn't necessarily greater.
Speaker 5 (33:45):
Now.
Speaker 2 (33:46):
Unfortunately, the people said the same thing about wake Forest
and look what Jake Dickard's done for them. I hate
to bring it back to Clawson there, but can you
find your Jake Dickard if you are NC State, well
you need to be able to do that. If you
feel like Drin's not the guy, but I think it's
a very intriguing spot for them and it could potentially
put a different tinge on on what the off season
(34:07):
competition looks like for the wolfag That is the Live
Wire on Sports Ready nine to seven w f Z,
the walk Off and what's on tap to close out
a week and we'll get ready for Kyle Ball the
Sports Ready on nine into seven wf Z. Are you
(34:31):
challenge me to a walk off?
Speaker 8 (34:34):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (34:35):
Yeah, that's a walk off challenge, my friend, it's.
Speaker 6 (34:41):
A walk off.
Speaker 2 (34:42):
It's a walk off. It's time for the walk off.
I'll read some texts here from you guys as we
close out the program. Pet Bielston, who's a very high
quality shot out of c Texas, says love Brent, we
should still sign a quality midfielder. This winner to put
and Westy. I think adding depth while also acknowledging the
(35:05):
spot that he has on the team are two concurrent
and coaching thoughts that you can have independent of each other.
I don't think one affects the other. I think you
can have both of those things. And I've been very
very clear about saying they need more depth. Uh. This
is one from big sid Bryce Young is going to
(35:26):
be inconclusive until they get the second reliable receiver. Bottom line,
No QB would be very good with this.
Speaker 5 (35:34):
Again, I present to you, who is Drake May's second
best receiver? Can anybody tell me that?
Speaker 4 (35:40):
Who?
Speaker 3 (35:41):
Keyshawan?
Speaker 5 (35:41):
Butte Yes, I was gonna say, is his second receiver
is Booty? I mean, that's that's your guy. Maybe you
say Hunter Henry, but like, come on, man, we are
this deep into it. At some point you've got to
get to the point of realizing that Bryce has to
elevate the players around him.
Speaker 3 (36:01):
I think this is the thing. I think both can
be true.
Speaker 5 (36:04):
I think he cannot have a great receiver group around him,
but at the same time, he should be playing better
than he is.
Speaker 2 (36:10):
There needs to be a point where he elevates the
guys around him.
Speaker 3 (36:12):
A little bit, just a little that's all we're asking for.
Speaker 2 (36:16):
Antoine Lemelman count him among people who also have been
to Italy before Chris McClain. He said he went to
Italy a couple of weeks ago. He went to Venice, Naples, Rome, Sorrento, Positano,
Ravello and the Amalfi Coast.
Speaker 3 (36:29):
Oh geez, how about that?
Speaker 2 (36:31):
You want to talk, you want to talk about a
trek that so geographically that's a lot because Rome is
in like the kind of southwestern like mid southwestern part
of the country. Venice is all the way up on
the top right.
Speaker 5 (36:47):
To be fair, it's a little bit easier to travel
full countries, but it is still and.
Speaker 2 (36:54):
The train system in Italy is superb. Yes, blows Amtrak
out of the water.
Speaker 3 (37:02):
One day.
Speaker 5 (37:03):
I will have to take a trip there, but I
would prefer that that would be with a lady friend.
Speaker 2 (37:08):
At some point, Pop Pops won't get on a plane.
Will Pops get on a trans continental plane?
Speaker 5 (37:13):
No, he ain't doing that, not unless they got Hilton
Rewards points that he can use there.
Speaker 2 (37:19):
Uh, I was, we were. We're already trying to figure
out when we want to go back, because my wife
just absolutely loves.
Speaker 3 (37:27):
It there, all the pasta you get to eat.
Speaker 2 (37:32):
Come. I'm not I'm not saying I don't. I'm just
saying I'm just saying she she controls a lot of
the decision making it happens, and as opposed to where
we go, I need to get her to buy in
so that we can all we can all go. So
dragging her kicking and screaming. Uh, texture goes. Fitty won't
go to Italy with that's that's funny.
Speaker 3 (37:48):
Yeah, I don't. I don't want to go on any vacations.
Speaker 2 (37:51):
Pitty won't get on a plane to get to domestically,
let alone trans continental.
Speaker 3 (37:56):
Well he will, but he will.
Speaker 5 (37:57):
Apparently the first time that he got on a plane
he uh, he cried to himself a little bit.
Speaker 2 (38:04):
So he wrote an art. He wrote an hotbed article
on this. But uh, I hate to blow him op
a spot up, but he wrote an article on it.
So Danny Higginbottom, who does Apple Mlisson Pass, has a
fear of flying, which a very hard thing. But he
overcame it because I think of a hypnotist to think
(38:25):
some sort of like some sort of like hypnosis delio
that overcame his fear of flying as a results, I.
Speaker 5 (38:32):
Think, honestly it's just the lack of flights that Fitty
has taken in his life. I think eventually he would
be all right. But I did not think when he
suggested that what we do next year is go over
to the aer Lingus Classic, that Carolina is going to
play it again Ireland in Ireland, I did not think
that would probably be the best situation for him, because
(38:52):
that's a you're you're going from flying to Dallas, which
is the furthest flight that you've ever taken, to what
doubling that almost.
Speaker 2 (39:02):
To a transatlantic flight. Now it's tough, it's not it's
not that. What's the flight to Ireland from here? Six hours?
Seven hours? I think it's like seven it's six forty
six to get from here to London. Maybe it's about this, maybe,
well again you got to go again the this this
(39:23):
one's for Kyrie irving. The Earth is round, so it
will take a little bit more time to get to Ireland. Yes,
it's not flat, uh, Antoine goes. We flew to Venice
and then flew to Naples and then took the bullet
train to Rome. That's fantastic. Also when you're over there,
flying from country to country incredibly cheap. There's a lot
(39:45):
of first we took. We went to London first and
then went from London to Rome. The flight from London
to Rome was less than one hundred dollars on how
how on British airways. I want to say that flight
was I want to say less than less than three hours.
Speaker 3 (40:06):
Oh, Okay, Well, that's not bad. I thought it would
have been even shorter than that.
Speaker 2 (40:08):
I think I think it might have been like two
maybe like an hour and a half, two hours. It
wasn't long.
Speaker 3 (40:11):
That's beautiful, though, That's that's incredibly so.
Speaker 2 (40:14):
This is what we had to do. We had it
was it was the it was New Year's Eve, so
we did. We did the Tottenham game on New Year's Eve.
We went back to our hotel for a New Year's
Eve party, stayed up till midnight, fireworks, the whole bit.
We had to get up for an eight am flight
the next morning. Oh that was a lot. And you
had to beat the airport obviously a certain amount of
(40:35):
time beforehand. We might have got we we might actually
it was a six am flight six am floor. Oh
that's even worse. We might have gotten two hours to sleep.
Not good. We had a well, we had a car,
we had a wait, we had a car, tickets to
the airport, we had we had a car service.
Speaker 3 (40:50):
Well there you go. I mean, you don't have to
do any any of the work.
Speaker 2 (40:54):
It's time for What's on Tap, presented by Twin Peaks.

three thirty tomorrow as well. Of course the Big One
(41:37):
Tomorrow night seven thirty, Texas and Georgia. Should be a
fun weekend.
Speaker 5 (41:41):
Oh definitely, I'm ready to be locked in on this
college football weekend. Carolina going up against Wake I think
is gonna be huge. I think that's gonna be a
great game between those two sides. It'll be ugly, but
it will still be a great game. So definitely excited
for this weekend of college football, and then for the
Panthers on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (41:57):
And the Hornets tonight as well. Hornets and the Bucks
and a cup game. LaMelo is back, we believe because
he is probable to be on the floor for the
