Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, you're ready to go with the Live Wire

(00:01):
their producer. Yeah, many time now for some sound of
floun the West Connect.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
All right, and let's go with the head coach of
the Carolina Panthers, David C.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
Canalis. I don't know if that's his middle name.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
I have no idea, but Dave was speaking yesterday and
he got into the comments from Nick Gorton.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
No, let's take a listen to what he's got to
say here.

Speaker 4 (00:31):
Just about the comments and all that stuff. I think
it's a it's an opportunity. It's a learning opportunity to say, okay,
you know, for us, for our guys, like you know,
speak for your own performance. If you want to make
a general comment, you know about hey, when we lose,
we're upset, we're disappointed, you know, but the specific part
of it, like that we can do a better job
of just keeping those things within us, you know, and
the stuff that we talk about after the game on

(00:53):
Monday and all those things.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
All right, that would be David a Aron Canalis. By
the way, that's his middle name is Aaron.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
So I didn't know that. N something about that, Rod Bid.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
What do you guys think about his comments and Is
this what you think Al Wallace was maybe trying to
say in his comments, It just was, you know, phrased
a little bit differently by the head coach of the
Carolina Paker.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:16):
I mean it's still just a very interesting comment, the
timing of it, and I think that could be the
catalyst for the performance on Sunday. Do they come out
and play well because it is or does this cause such.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
A problem that they don't.

Speaker 5 (01:27):
I feel like maybe it will help the team because,
as I said, I think census will be heightened. I
think that guys will come out and because he said
that kind of take things a little bit more serious
because they don't want any more bad presses out. That's
you know, if you've got the type of locker room
that we think.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
That they have. Yeah, I think coaches probably generally subscribe
to the idea that less info is better. And so
when Nick Gordon comes out and tells you that the
guys got big headed and weren't practicing as hard as
they might have, or they felt like they were going
to come in and win easily, they underestimate their opponent.
You could see some of the easter eggs being put

(02:03):
down here, like Guero Rivero. I keep going back to
that comment from last week. I guess it was a
week ago exactly when he said, as soon as you
underestimate an opponent going into a game, that's when you
get got. And so I wonder how much of that
is just answering a question about a terrible team you're
about to play, and how much of that is because
of a specific reason as to what you've seen in practice.

(02:24):
And maybe it's a little bit more so with the latter,
when I was at first giving a little bit more
truth to the former. So I do think maybe there
were some signs from everybody seeing it. And then after
you lose, now all hell breaks lose. It's you let
all of the secrets out. With Ikey saying practice wasn't great,
same thing with j T. Sanders and the Nick Gorton
finally saying the thing about how people got too big headed.

(02:46):
So it makes sense that Dave Canalis would say it.
I really don't think this is going to be some
lingering issue. And even Dave Canalis today said, yeah, practice
we've looked a lot, a lot sharper over the last
couple days.

Speaker 3 (02:58):
All right, sounds like good news.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
Something that's not good news him talking yesterday about Trevin
Wallace's injury.

Speaker 4 (03:05):
Trevin will be week to week really right now. And uh,
you know this, the shoulders aggravated. He's been dealing with
some things as you've all seen in games. Wasn't able
to finish the game, and just you know, we put
all of our brains together and you really saw an
opportunity to just try to get him on top of this,
get out in front of it, get him back to
you know, his full confidence and strength and mobility and

(03:26):
all that.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
All right, So going up against the Falcons run game,
is this an added concern on top of the fact
that he was asked about who gets the green dot?
Would it be Christian rose Boom and he gave a
non answer.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (03:40):
I mean I think that's interesting because maybe it Tersey
they don't feel comfortable with Christian rose Boom having the
green dot, but with him being the start of him
having the experience, I would think that he would have
to get it in this instance. But as far as
as I said, there was a position where he was
very up and down, but you did get some moments
from him. You do like the speed that he brings
you do like the tenacity that he brings to the

(04:03):
table as well, So yeah, it's going to hurt you
in some ways. Who knows what type of game he
would have played had he been able to play this one,
But I just noticed speeding the tenacity, even though sometimes
it could be a little misguided because of the inexperience.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
Yeah, you're gonna miss that well. And it looks like
they might turn to Claude and chair Lists as a
guy that's going to step in with Trevin Wallace already
ruled out with that shoulder injury. And when we're discussing
who gets the green dot, you would think it goes
to the veteran with Rose Boom, But remember at the
beginning of the year it didn't work out all that well.
He wasn't playing all that well, and perhaps he was
able to play a little more free. Trevin Wallace got

(04:36):
the green dot last year, and while it's a lot
to give to a rookie, he seemed to be more
comfortable with the green dot. So who gets it? Do
you try it out with somebody like Chairlists, who isn't
really a starting linebacker in that regard, but is coming
off of some good special teams play, and this is
what Mike Kaye writes. The NFL is all about seizing

(04:56):
opportunities and longtime Panthers Special Teams contributor claw on chair
List might have a big task ahead of him on
Sunday against the Falcons. So maybe that's the guy that
you're looking at to really take over here. And when
you've seen him play, it's look pretty good from what
you would expect from a backup linebacker. In my opinion,
physical not scared anything. It's kind of what I want.

(05:18):
And those dudes that are supposed to seek collisions, yea.
So maybe that's the guy that you're leaning on alongside
a Christian roseboom. What else you got?

Speaker 3 (05:25):
All right, let's move on to Zach Lowe.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
He was on the Zach low Podcast, of course he was,
it's his own podcast, and he was talking about the Hornets.

Speaker 3 (05:34):
He says, they're building a nice infrastructure.

Speaker 6 (05:37):
Oh, there's a lot of evidence that Charles Lee and
his staff are building an infrastructure that's going to be
interesting when the talent catches up with the infrastructure like
that is one of them number one defensive rebounding, they
don't foul, they get to the line, a lot on offense.

Speaker 7 (05:54):
Their shot selection is pretty like optimal on offense, not
so much on defense. With LaMelo Ball on the floor,
they would have the number one offense in the NBA
equivalent on the team level. Now, that's a little misleading
because A that's selecting your best lineups. And B stop
me if you heard this before. LaMelo Ball is already
missing games with an injury. Brandon Miller has missed almost

(06:15):
the entire season with an injury. I'm getting tired of this, Fred,
I just want to see these guys play.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
It's not their fault.

Speaker 7 (06:22):
I don't think it's their fault, certainly not Brandon Miller's
fault with the flukey injuries, the shoulder injury this year.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
I'm getting tired of it. I want to see the team.
All right.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
Well, we're not going to talk about the injuries again
because I don't think anybody could stand to talk about it.
But when it comes to building a nice infrastructure, do
you think, especially with what we've seen from con Kin Nipple,
Ryan Kolpbrenner last night, do you think that they're building
a nice infrastructure to this team.

Speaker 5 (06:46):
Yeah, And that's essentially what I said earlier in this
show like they've been in a nice foundation here to
where you got good young players that will fill some
key roles for you even in a or either in
a large or small scale. When you look at Konkan,
well he's the star of the group. But then you
look at Ryan Kalkbrennan, he's going to be a defensive
stud that looks like for them on top of being

(07:06):
a guy that can get them buckets at the rim.
Seon James, your three and D guy that could be
coming off the bench for you for years, you know,
and a guy that's going to be a menace to others.
And then you know Liam McNeely. He's the wild card
in it, but we know that he can get buckets,
so we'll see what he'll turn into. But that's a
good group with two kind of stars in their own rights,

(07:28):
I would say. And then you've got a couple of
guys that could turn out to be really good role players.
And so all of them bring the same mentality. Hard knows,
they want to do things the right way, all of
those things that you want from your rookies. They're wives,
you know, so there's a lot to like there. And
so as they said, that's a nice foundation now to

(07:50):
where your margin for era becomes a little bit more
with what you bring in after this group.

Speaker 1 (07:55):
Yeah, Floundy, By the way, I'm gonna have to have
you isolate that weird sound you made and play it
at the end of the second people hear that again.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
Don't know if I'm gonna be to get it. I
might be able to get it for uh the walk
off them?

Speaker 1 (08:07):
Okay, close, that'd be nice, thank you. There is a
lot of nice infrastructure here. Think about the new additions
to this team. Ryan Kalchbrenner already very good, already a
starting caliber center at least at this point, and a
rotation caliber center in this league. You know how much
I love Mussa Diabat, who's not a new addition, but
kN k Nipple is, Sion James is Colin Sexton is

(08:29):
They all play the right way. They all play like
chickens with their head cut off. And I mean that
in a good way. It's an organized chaos with the
way that they play, especially Sexton, just making things happen.
It's not fun to play against these guys, and I
think that matters over the course of an eighty two
game season. So not only do you have the right
kind of attitude from all of your new additions and
all of your rookies. Liam McNeely is getting run because

(08:52):
of his competitive spirit. Charles Lee or James Barrego, I
don't know, but competitive spirit with Charles Lee and what
he's speaking with Liam McNeely. The other thing is just
what you see on the court design wise, man, they
are taking the right kind of shots. They are taking
a bunch of shots at the rim. They're hitting more
at the rim than what they had been in years past,
Thank you, Ryan Kalkbrenner. What's interesting too is that they're

(09:15):
defending the rim a lot better now. People still take
a lot of shots because they see a rookie and
they want to challenge them, and they see Musa Diabate
who isn't nearly as tall at the center position than
they want to challenge them. So they're still getting and
shooting a lot of shots at the cup, but they're
not making as much, so they keep blocking them. You
saw it last night. They only allowed like forty four
percent at the cup last night. It's ridiculous. What a

(09:36):
change with Giannis, But that's absolutely ridiculous. It's in large
part why they won this game, and they haven't lost
a rebounding battle yet keep shooting threes. They forced Milwaukee
into a bunch of mid range jumpers. The Hornets take
among the fewest amount of mid range jumpers in the league.
Right kind of shot profile, Yeah, man, going things the
right way. Nice principles. I really like the principles here,

(09:58):
instilled with the in this franchise. What you got?

Speaker 2 (10:01):
All right, let's go to barstool. That sounds dangerous, but
this is the Mostly Sports podcast with Mark Titus and
Brandon Walker and guys. They have found the Hornets Nest Trophy,
and boy they are just as shocked as we are.

Speaker 8 (10:17):
This came across my desk yesterday because I think, uh,
I think Davidson and Charlotte played basketball yesterday. Yeah, if
you could look up the Hornets nest trophy between Davidson
and Charlotte, I would like to call attention to Hornet's
nest trophy. So picture in your brain what it might
look like.

Speaker 3 (10:42):
This is a big someone pooped on the trophy. I'd
be a better way to pick the Hornets.

Speaker 1 (10:49):
I was going giant testical, don't you giant? Okay? Hold on,
hold on, hold just for look it is. It is
a classic. Then it looks like the first thing they
were referencing. I'm sorry the second part of that. He's
got something going on with himself. I don't know what
it is, or I don't know what he's seen. I

(11:10):
don't know what he looks up in his spare time.
I've never seen the second part of what he had
to say look like the hornet's nest trophy. The first part,
it's a classic joke. We all know. It looks like that,
no doubt about it. Have your fun, I welcome it.
The second part. Never thought about that in my life.

Speaker 5 (11:24):
One hundred percent. Man Like how you got fired up
about it? You know what I'm saying. But people are
going to have different It's just not a beautiful trophy.
That just is what it is, and it's going to
have to accept the criticism that comes with it. I mean,
there are lots of rivalry trophies throughout all of sports,
and certainly this is one of them, and it is
not an attractive one. But it certainly does not look

(11:44):
like what those guys were talking about. At the latter
end of that sound.

Speaker 1 (11:49):
You know, we talked about Davidson at the end of
Tuesday's game, posing mean mug in front of the cameras
after their victory. How much harder is it to act
like that gangster if you will, Like I said earlier
in the show, how hard is it to act gangster
with that trophy in your hand?

Speaker 5 (12:09):
Yeah it's hard, man, you know what I'm saying. But
then you can kind of flip it and say, you know,
it's grime, is ugly. We like it like that because
we are gangster, you know what I'm saying. We want
it to be ugly. I mean when I think gangster,
I think Davidson. Okay, yep, me too, mckilnder built wait
on that.

Speaker 1 (12:26):
The Silver Fox, Yeah, I just think straight up OG's.
But they got the new young gnn Son Yeah they do. Yeah.
He was getting animated on the sideline, by the way,
which you know, Bob McKillop would get animated. You tell
them to sit the hell now, No, I didn't. I
was too far away. Although there were some bad calls,
I understood why in the first half. There's some bad
bad calls and by the way, about thirty jump balls

(12:48):
in the last five minutes of that game. Odd game,
tough one to lose last time. Bye what you got? Oh?

Speaker 2 (12:53):
Yeah, well, guys, Jameis Winston got named a starting quarterback
in the league once again. Yeah, he seems pretty excited
about it.

Speaker 3 (13:03):
To know about him, I'm.

Speaker 1 (13:05):
Want fans to know that I'm gonna do my best.
You know. Obviously I'm gonna have fun, but I'm gonna.

Speaker 9 (13:10):
Execute, have a surgical execution and just and just ball man, Like,
this is something I've been doing since I've been four
years old, and I just get to do it in
the greatest city in the world. I'm gonna be saying
it with my son. It's the greatest city in the world. Yeah,
that's a Hamilton reference. If y'all don't know, a ten
year reunion.

Speaker 1 (13:31):
All right.

Speaker 2 (13:31):
So at this point, I mean, is there anyone more
entertaining than this dude?

Speaker 3 (13:36):
Like, I get it.

Speaker 2 (13:36):
He's not a great quarterback and he's probably gonna turn
the ball over and I'm probably gonna yell at him
on Sunday.

Speaker 3 (13:42):
My god, this dude with the media is unbelievable.

Speaker 1 (13:45):
Yeah he is. He's great, man.

Speaker 5 (13:46):
I mean, he set itself up for a great post
career with all of the sound bites. He's a walking
sound bite, you know, even as much charisma as he
showed it for the state, Like, I didn't see this
coming where he's become such a big personality. I mean,
this guy's going to be able to pretty much name
where he wants to work once his career is done,
if he so chooses to.

Speaker 1 (14:06):
I saw the clip from mark Ingram talking about Jameis
Winston on some podcast. I apologize for not giving it credit,
but I saw the clip that was on the YouTube
short or something when he was asked about being locked
in a room for twenty four hours with Jameis Winston
and if you laugh, you do not receive a million dollars.
If you don't laugh, then you received a million. Mark
Ingram cut off the guy asking the questions that it's

(14:27):
not possible. I knock out. I don't think so give
me an hour. It's not happening twenty four that's useless.
I'm just going to sit in there with my ribs
hurt and laughing. If you were locked in a room
with Jameis Winston and you weren't able to laugh or
else you wouldn't win the million. There are some people
that are like it. And then a story that he
told was how he was trying to give a pregame
speech before they went out onto the field, and at
the end of it he started singing the Monday Night

(14:49):
Football theme, which I don't know if it's good for
the team in a raw, raw sense. It's good for
the team to have a comedic relief, no doubt about it.
But I am not about to run through a brick
wall when you start eating your fingers and saying let's
go get a w well again.

Speaker 5 (15:07):
It all depends on the messenger. I mean, it is
the messenger balling. If Jameis is going out there throwing
for three fifty four touchdowns and they're winning, then yeah,
you're gonna eat up everything he's got to say. You
love to eat the fingers, you love the Monday Night
Football theme and all that. But you know, if you're
the backup just getting a little spot duty, or you
know what I'm saying, you're going out there throwing as
many picks as he's capable of throwing, then yeah, it's.

Speaker 1 (15:30):
Not gonna come across itself. Well, I mean, it's not
that it's bad, but I'm not like, it's not like that.

Speaker 5 (15:38):
It's I'm laughing. I'm sneaking at that. But the thing is,
that's what I'm saying. So it's like you can feel
like it's clownish in a good way where you do
laugh and you're with it.

Speaker 1 (15:48):
But then if it's a guy.

Speaker 5 (15:49):
That's balling like that and he does that, it's still funny,
but you get a little more hype to that. Yeah,
let's go, and you're gonna start singing it too, because
you like whatever that guy's happened, whatever he's doing to
be successful. I want some of that too, so you'll
be okay with it. But I get one thousand percent
what you're saying.

Speaker 1 (16:05):
Last story on this, you know, and I hope I've
told the story I think before. I hope it's not,
you know, at the person's dismay, But yeah, I'll go
ahead and say it. With the Baltimore Ravens, it reminds
me a little bit of Ray Lewis and when ray
Lewis would give pregame speeches to these guys in the
locker room. This was told to me with somebody that
played on the team, But ray Lewis used to give
pregame speeches and he'd get a little too lost in

(16:27):
the sauce. And of course this is somebody that is
extremely spiritual, right, which also becomes funny. The serious thing
becomes funny. Jamis knows he's funny. Ray Lewis becomes the
spiritual dude that is funny without trying to be funny.
And so he talked about for one game, an important one, guys,
you got to have it in here. He starts pointing

(16:49):
at his heart or whatever. He says, you guys got
to have it in there. I've been to a Super Bowl.
I know what it's like. I want you guys to
have that. When you have the fun fetti. Oh yeah,
the fun fetty is all over you. And then once
he starts saying that, apparently Troy Smith started snickering a
little bit. Yeah, and then ray Lewis got mad at

(17:10):
Troy Smith and it ruined the whole thing. Troy's like, right,
you mean you said funk you mean confetti? Yeah, And
then he said the fun fetty it's writing down on you.
I want that for you, And of course they all
start bursting out laughing because ray Lewis he got mad
at Troy Smith for sneaking or at him. There's also
one story he told about hitting the deer on the
way in because he was late and he was never late,

(17:30):
and then he used that as a life lesson and
it was a weird transition. Ray lewis Man one of

Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant.
