היום קשה קצת לדמיין את זה, אבל היו שנים בהן צרפת היתה בעלת הברית הכי גדולה של ישראל. אלו היו שנים קריטיות, גורליות, כפי שמתאר זאת שמעון פרס בקטע הפתיחה של הפרק. פרס גם היה בין האנשים שהפכו את אותן שנים לכל כך היסטוריות.
אבל ירח הדבש של ישראל וצרפת לא החזיק מעמד. שורה של אינטרסים ומהלכים דירדרו את היחסים, וגרמו לרבים בישראל להרגיש נבגדים. במשך השנים היחסים השתפרו והתהדקו אך לא חזרו להיות כבעבר.
