In this episode, Julie interviews Lynn Palmgren of Palmgren Acupuncture. It was a special treat since she attended the same college for post-grad education. She and Lynn talk acupuncture, pivoting, persistence, and more.

About Lynn:

After practicing as an attorney, Lynn changed careers to become an acupuncturist. This happened after she experienced extreme insomnia and turned to acupuncture for help. The medicine didn’t disappoint and she was sleeping soundly in a few weeks.

About a year after her first treatment when she was looking to change careers she didn’t have to look far for inspiration.

Lynn left her litigator position working for the Attorney General and enrolled in Pacific College of Health and Science in Chicago, IL. After 4 years of studying in the classroom and clinical setting, she received a Master of Science degree in Oriental Medicine.

She went on to open Palmgren Acupuncture in Oak Park as a solo practice. After a year in business, her husband who is also an acupuncturist joined her in owning and managing the office. Since then, Lynn has helped thousands of people improve their health naturally with Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Lynn specializes in acupuncture for pain management (especially hip and back pain), insomnia, anxiety/stress, and gynecological concerns. It is her mission to make acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine more mainstream.

Outside of the clinic, Lynn volunteers for the Workers Center for Racial Justice, Oak Park-River Forest Chamber of Commerce and at her son’s school. Lynn was on the Chamber’s board for seven years and served as Vice President and a member-at-large. She is also a former Commissioner on the Village of Oak Park’s Board of Health.

Lynn holds a Master of Science degree in Oriental Medicine from Pacific College of Health and Science in Chicago, IL, a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Drake University Law School in Des Moines, IA, and a Bachelor’s degree in business administration from Augustana College in Rock Island, IL. She is licensed by the State of Illinois to practice acupuncture and is a Diplomate of Oriental Medicine certified through National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, with over 3500 hours of classroom and clinical training experience. Lynn is also a member of the Illinois Society of Acupuncturists.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
