Met FIELD / Minus 16 presenteert Opera Ballet Vlaanderen een double bill die prikkelt tot reflectie en iedereen dansend naar huis laat gaan.
Tot voor kort was Kirsten Wicklund lid van ons balletgezelschap en parallel timmerde ze hard aan de weg als choreografe. Nu keert ze terug met FIELD, haar eerste grote creatie voor Opera Ballet Vlaanderen. Musici uit het Symfonisch Orkest van OBV brengen live het Achtste strijkkwartet van Dmitri Sjostakovitsj en de 'Melodia' uit de Sonate voor viool solo van Béla Bartók. Op deze bezwerende muziek openen Wicklund en haar team een portaal naar een mysterieus spiegeluniversum. Een soundscape van Jean Delouvroy en het abstracte, geometrische decor van Ivania Carpio katapulteren de toeschouwer naar een ruimte die buiten de tijd lijkt te bestaan. Ook dimensies als beweging en licht versmelten in de haast vloeibare kostuums van Irina Shaposhnikova.
Na de pauze volgt Minus 16, misschien wel de grootste hit van levende legende Ohad Naharin. Sinds de première in 1999 is Minus 16 uitgegroeid tot een canoniek werk van de hedendaagse dans. Het heeft al overal ter wereld op de planken gestaan en nu ook bij ons. Minus 16 is een onvoorspelbare caleidoscoop die nu eens ontroert en dan weer doet lachen. Daartoe dompelen de dansers van Opera Ballet Vlaanderen zich onder in Naharins eigenzinnige bewegingstaal gaga en balanceren zo tussen kracht en kwetsbaarheid. Ook muzikaal doorbreekt Minus 16 de verwachtingspatronen: met aanstekelijke latin muziek, pompende technobeats of de intimiteit van Chopin doorkruist de voorstelling genre na genre.
