“Is this the right dream for me? Is my head truly in it? How about my heart? Does it meet my needs and values?” ~ David Spader

It seems like some people know the answer to the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” practically from the moment they leave the womb.

For others, like my next guest, the answer takes a bit more exploring. David Spader majored in psychology and theology at St. John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota, before becoming an internal coach for the defense industry. Realizing his position left him desiring more, he moved to the Philippines with his wife to lead projects for Habitat For Humanity involving hundreds of youth volunteers. Life led him back to his hometown of Sioux Falls, SD for a while, where he developed and taught corporate coaching programs for his father’s business, before finally settling down on the East Coast with his wife. In 2020, David co-authored a book with his long time business mentor entitled, “Conquering Unfavorable Leadership: How to Fix the 5 Common, Costly Mistakes We All Make.”

Most importantly, David found something he could bring his WHOLE self to. He co-created Protentia, a flexible and scalable technology platform that serves business performance coaches and trainers through their innovative P6 Personal High-Performance Assessments. P6 was created to provide essential insights about the WHOLE PERSON, not just one or two dimensions of them, and in turn provide a better understanding of exactly how someone can be helped to achieve success and satisfaction in the workplace. In other words, the type of tools and insights David had been searching for his whole life.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
