Sub genericul –Tomorrow’s Europe ,Europa de mâine, vorbim astăzi despre perspectiva ca europenii să vorbească, într-un viitor apropiat sau mai îndepărtat, aceeași limbă. Ideea unei limbi comune pentru Europa a fost discutată de mulți ani, dar este dificil de prezis dacă sau când s-ar putea întâmpla acest lucru. Motivele ţin de peisajul lingvistic actual.
În primul rând, diversitatea! Europa găzduiește o multitudine de limbi, inclusiv limbi importante precum engleza, franceza, germana și spaniola, precum și multe limbi regionale și minoritare.
În al doilea rând, identitatea culturală! Limba este o componentă cheie a identității culturale, iar mulți europeni sunt mândri de limbile lor materne, ceea ce poate face dificilă, din punct de vedere politic și social, adoptarea unei limbi comune.
În prezent, engleza este a doua cea mai vorbită limbă în Europa și servește drept limbă de lucru în multe contexte, inclusiv în afaceri și diplomație. Influența sa globală ar putea sugera că ar putea deveni o limbă comună. Dar este posibil să vorbim cu toții aceeași limbă? Robina Cornaciu, jurnalistă la Radio România Antena Saterlor, a discutat subiectul pe larg cu europarlamentarul Claudiu Târziu.
