Join Nina Lockwood in this episode of "Get Your Happy Back" as she welcomes Wai Chan, MBA, Certified Diversity Professional, Certified Sedona Instructor and Certified Professional Coach. Wai shares her powerful story of resilience and self-awareness, as she navigates life’s unexpected challenges. Fired from her job at 50, Wai faced health struggles that tested her strength and spirit, including perimenopause, chronic fatigue and long COVID.
Throughout her career in health career, first as a clinician and later as an administrator, Wai spent more of her time caring for others than she did for herself. Finally, her body gave her a message she couldn't ignore. Discover how Wai learned to listen to her body's needs in spite of being gaslit by physicians. She also speaks to the frequency that women often "should" themselves instead of treating themselves with love and respect.
Wai makes the point that resilience can be a two-edged sword. On the one hand, resilience helps us get back up again or push through challenges, but how do we treat ourselves when our body doesn't allow us to even get out of bed? Through a journey marked by perseverance and self-awareness, Wai learned to pay attention to her body's needs in order to lead a life doing what she loves without sacrificing her well being.
Wai's journey is a testament to the necessity of challenging societal expectations, cultivating awe and wonder, and using her creative activities both to manage pain and as a means of self expression.
