None of us measure up. In fact, Romans 3:23 says we all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Yet, we can push ourselves to reach impossible expectations when we don’t see ourselves through the eyes of Christ.
Perfectionism is a seed planted by the enemy to make us look solely at what WE are doing in our own power - while constantly whispering that we are not enough.
Note the specific point, in our own power. What’s really interesting is the battle is actually not about being perfect. The battle is within, it's about trying to prove to yourself that you are enough.
Remarkably, when we understand that by allowing Jesus to work through us, by accepting that we are more than enough only because of Christ, the need for perfectionism disappears.
Here are 3 things that perfectionism leads to:
- False Expectations
- Inauthenticity
- Isolation
These are 3 steps you can take to start releasing yourself from that hold of a perfectionist mindset:
- Forgive yourself
- Give more grace to others
- Follow God's leading as always
