That research led to ground-fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs), devices designed to trip quickly at specific current levels to prevent harm.
The episode explains how GFCIs protect most people—often shutting off before a shock is felt—but also notes that very small children with less body mass can still be vulnerable if exposed to electricity without a properly functioning GFCI.
