Im DataPulse Podcast sprechen wir heute über den Environmental Performance Index (EPI) der Yale und Columbia University. Dieser Index bewertet den Nachhaltigkeitsfortschritt von 180 Nationen und teilt die Welt in verschiedene Regionen ein, um die Entwicklung hin zu den UN-Klimazielen zu verfolgen.
Unser Fokus liegt auf Europa im Jahr 2024: Der EPI nutzt 58 Faktoren aus elf Kategorien, wobei Klimawandel, Umwelt und Gesundheit sowie Ökosystem-Vitalität unterschiedlich gewichtet werden, um eine Punktzahl von maximal 100 zu ermitteln. Die Analyse zeigt, dass viele europäische Länder eine starke Umweltleistung aufweisen – besonders Estland, das weltweit den Spitzenplatz belegt.
Deutschland schneidet dank seiner Naturschutzgebiete, des Recyclings und des Ausbaus erneuerbarer Energien gut ab, steht aber weiterhin vor Herausforderungen wie Überfischung, hohem Müllaufkommen und Luftqualität.
