History of the University of Virginia - Jefferson's Academical Village

On Traveling Through History, we take a special look at the history of my alma mater, the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia.  We take a look at Jefferson's vision for a secular college in the heart of Virgnia to be an academical village for students to learn and become future leaders of the new country, the United States.  We go over the history of what it took for Jefferson and his colleagues to get the university location and funding to make Jefferson's dream for the school a reality in his retirement.

We go over UVa's timeline of development, traditions, famous benefactors and buildings, fund-raising campaigns, academic programs and athletic programs.  We also look at the famous attendees of the university over the years and talk about the rankings of UVa nationally and how it is positioned in modern times.

We review several short video clips that give you a look at this beautiful and historic university and its Grounds.

We recommend you visit the university and take a tour of the Grounds, the architecture, the Rotunda and learn more about this great institution!
