Fresh news and strategies for traders. SPY Trader episode #1426. The market is reeling from a significant selloff triggered by the sharp reduction in expected Fed rate cuts, reinforcing a 'higherforlonger' environment. Growth stocks, led by megacap tech and discretionary names like Nvidia and Disney, were severely punished for high valuations. We detail the resulting market rotation toward defensive sectors, noting the resilience of Energy (XLE) and Health Care (XLV). Strategies include overweighting value and defense (XLV, XLE, XLF) and implementing DollarCost Averaging for core tech exposure (QQQ) to mitigate risks associated with the ongoing valuation scrutiny.

(00:00):
Welcome back to Spy Trader , the podcast that helps you navigate the choppy waters of the US equity markets .
I'm your host , Barry Bounces , and it's 5 am on Friday , November 14th , 2025 , Pacific time .
We are waking up to a market nursing a significant hangover after a sharp selloff , driven by valuation concerns and Federal Reserve uncertainty .

(00:23):
The market is screaming rotation , and we need to listen up .
Yesterday saw major indices retreat substantially .
The S&P 500 dropped 1.66% , while the Nasdaq Composite led the losses , falling 2.29% .
This pullback comes as the market digests the end of the government shutdown and recalibrates interest rate expectations .

(00:48):
The biggest headline here is the shift in monetary policy outlook .
The probability of a December Fed rate cut has plunged from nearly 95% just a month ago down to approximately 50% .
This reinforces the ' higherforlonger' rate environment , putting serious pressure on growth stocks .
This brings us to sector analysis .

(01:10):
The highflyers have been grounded .
Information Technology , tracked by the XLK ETF , was hit hard , losing 2.52% in a recent session .
Megacap tech , specifically Nvidia , is facing renewed scrutiny over ' stretched AI valuations , ' acting as the primary drag .

(01:30):
Consumer Discretionary also suffered , down 2.46% , hit by major components like Tesla and especially Walt Disney , which sank nearly 8% after missing its Q4 revenue estimates .
However , not everything is falling .
We are seeing a broadening of market leadership toward value and defensive plays .

(01:53):
Energy , tracked by the XLE ETF , actually showed strength , moving up 0.29% , while Health Care , XLV , demonstrated relative resilience , remaining nearly flat .
Even within technology , we saw resilience ; Cisco Systems stock rose after lifting its fullyear profit outlook , showing that solid enterprise fundamentals still count .

(02:16):
Given this environment , smart traders are looking for stability and diversification .
For the defensive investor , we recommend increasing exposure to Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund , XLV .
This sector holds up well during volatility .
Also consider Vanguard Total Bond Market ETF , BND , as a classic equity ballast .

(02:40):
If you are hunting for value , overweight Energy ( XLE ) and Financials ( XLF ) .
XLE is benefiting from the market broadening , and XLF often thrives in a higherforlonger rate environment due to improved lending margins .
Finally , for longterm growth investors , don't abandon tech , but use strategy .

(03:02):
We suggest holding core exposure in the Invesco QQQ Trust ( QQQ ) but employing a DollarCost Averaging strategy .
This mitigates the risk of buying the dip too early , especially while concerns over the valuation speed bump affecting stocks like Nvidia persist .
The key takeaway is that the market is punishing high valuations and demanding defensive positioning .

(03:28):
Stay sharp , stay diversified , and we’ll catch you next time on Spy Trader .

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
