(00:00):
Welcome to Spy Trader , the podcast that helps you navigate the volatility and opportunity in the US stock market .
I'm your host , Maximus Gains .
It's 5 am on Saturday , November 15th , 2025 , Pacific time , and we're looking back at a truly wild week defined by dramatic uncertainty and a big reality check for highflying tech names .

(00:25):
The broader market indices , like the S&P 500 tracked by SPY , managed to end the week slightly positive , up 0.08% .
However , that modest gain masks a massive rollercoaster ride , culminating in a sharp selloff midweek .
The techheavy Nasdaq Composite , mirrored by QQQ , bore the brunt of the pain , posting a losing week , down 0.45% , driven primarily by a sharp 2.3% decline on Thursday .

(00:54):
So , what caused the whiplash ?
Two macro factors dominated the narrative .
First , the end of the 43day federal government shutdown .

While that removed one headache , it created another (01:04):
' data fog .
' The shutdown halted the release of crucial jobs and inflation reports , leaving the Federal Reserve and investors flying blind on the true state of the economy .
Second , and more critically , fading expectations for an imminent Fed rate cut drove the market lower .

(01:25):
The probability of a December rate cut has fallen dramatically to less than 50% as Fed officials expressed concerns about persistent inflation .
This shift caused the yield on the 10year Treasury note to rise to 4.15% by Friday , demanding higher returns for bondholders .

(01:46):
This volatility translated directly into a significant sector rotation .
The S&P 500 Information Technology sector , tracked by XLK , was the primary drag , declining 2.4% on Thursday .
Investors were actively rotating out of growth and highvaluation AI names .

(02:06):
We saw shares of key AIlinked companies like Nvidia drop 3% on Friday morning , extending earlier losses , and Tesla fall 4% on Friday morning , trading below the 400 mark .
Meanwhile , defensive sectors like Health Care ( XLV ) and Consumer Staples were largely unchanged during the market's down day , proving their role as safe havens .

(02:31):
Earnings also moved specific names .
The Walt Disney Co.
sank nearly 8% on Thursday after reporting worsethanexpected revenue .
Conversely , Cisco Systems , or CSCO , rose about 4.5% after lifting its fullyear profit outlook , showing that strong fundamental guidance is still rewarded .

(02:53):
The core insight here is that the higher cost of capital from rising bond yields and the lack of verified economic data combine to make highvaluation tech stocks particularly vulnerable .
The market is demanding a discount for uncertainty .
For trading recommendations , we need a strategy that balances defense against targeted buying .

(03:14):
First , increase your Fixed Income Exposure .
With the 10year yield elevated at 4.15% , ETFs like the Vanguard Total Bond Market ETF ( BND ) offer stability and income to hedge against equity swings .
Second , Overweight Defensive Sectors .
Given the economic uncertainty , maintaining exposure to sectors like Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLV ) is prudent , as these sectors are less cyclical .

(03:44):
Third , Targeted Growth is still viable , but be selective .
The selloff offers a chance to ' buy the dip ' in highquality names .
Instead of focusing solely on single , highly volatile stocks , consider the Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLK ) for diversified exposure , or stick to companies with demonstrated strong fundamentals , like Cisco Systems ( CSCO ) .

(04:12):
Finally , for your core portfolio , maintain holdings in broad market funds like the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF ( VOO ) , but consider dollarcost averaging to mitigate the impact of shortterm volatility .
Stay safe , trade smart , and we'll catch you next time on Spy Trader .

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
