Why Doctors Dismiss Women Who Feel Like Something’s Wrong.

The hidden truth behind ‘normal labs,’ invisible symptoms, and the wellness gap no one talks about.

Have you ever walked out of a doctor’s office feeling unheard, dismissed, or worse—told you’re “fine” when everything in your body says you’re not? You’re not alone, and you’re not crazy.

In this episode, we’re pulling back the curtain on why so many women are left feeling exhausted, anxious, and unwell—despite normal labs and a clean bill of health. The truth? Most doctors are trained to manage illness, not help you feel well. And that leaves countless women stuck in what I call “the pit in the middle”—not sick enough for treatment, but nowhere near thriving.

We’ll talk about:

  • Why the medical system often fails women with invisible symptoms.
  • The difference between sick care and true wellness.
  • What to do when you know something is wrong—but no one’s listening.
  • How to step into your God-given role as the steward of your own health.

If you’ve been brushed off, told “it’s all in your head,” or feel like no one is connecting the dots—you need this conversation. There is another way. And it starts with you.

through fatigue and step into thevibrant, joy filled life he has for us.
Mama.

of motherhood with patience and peace.

Most days, and I wannahelp you do the same.

for grace, you are in the right place.
Each week we'll dive into practicalstrategies, faith-filled truths,
and empowering tools to renew yourhealth, body, soul, and spirit.

(01:48):
Are you ready for this?
Let's do it, mama.
Let's get honest about somethingthat might rattle you a bit.
Your doctor doesn't actuallycare about your health.
Now, before you prickleup at that, hear me out.
I'm not saying that your doctordoesn't care about you, because many

(02:10):
doctors are compassionate, intelligentpeople who genuinely want to help.
But the unfortunate thing is that thesystem they're trained in and the way
they practice, it's not about health.
It's actually about illness management.
You see, doctors are trainedto diagnose disease, prescribe
medications, and perform procedures.

(02:33):
That's what we call sick care.
They're not trained in wellnessand they're not taught how to
help you create energy, restorehormonal balance, rebuild your gut
health or calm chronic inflammationthrough natural lifestyle changes.
That's just not the system they work in.
So what happens when you feelawful, exhausted, anxious, bloated,

(02:58):
foggy, maybe even in pain, butall your labs come back normal?
They tell you "you'refine", but you're not.
You know you're not.
That's what I call "thepit in the middle".
You're not sick enough to get medicaltreatment, but you're not healthy enough

(03:18):
to function the way that you want to.
I want to share a personal story withyou about a moment that I can remember
so vividly where this happened to me.
I remember when I was young, Iwas like 18, maybe 20, and I was

(03:40):
sitting in the doctor's office.
I remember seeing the beige tone colorson the wall and sitting on that crinkly
white paper that rustled around whileI shifted periodically, nervously
waiting for the doctor to come in.
I had been dealing with fatigue, brain fog, stomach issues, hormonal

(04:02):
imbalances and more, and I was surethat something was wrong because
I didn't feel right in my body.
And so I had come to have this blood paneldone because I was so sure that that would
help me understand what was going on.
The doctor had been hesitantto allow me to do it.

(04:22):
My insurance didn't cover it, but Iwas confident that if I was able to
pay for this, that I would get answers.
So I remember finally the doctorcame in and she was smiling at me.
I was nervous about the resultsbecause there were a few things
that ran in my family, likediabetes and thyroid disorders.

(04:43):
And so I was anxiouslywaiting to hear the results.
And she sat there looking at mycharts, and eventually she looked
up at me and she said, "everythinglooks good. You're fine."
I froze.
I stared at her blankly, unsure of how to react.

(05:07):
What she was telling me shouldhave been good news, but my heart
and my stomach were dropping.
My head felt dizzy.
The hope that I had coming infor help in healing in sight
was draining from my body fast.

(05:28):
So in a daze I thanked her and Ileft the office feeling so confused.
I had wasted the time andthe money I had invested.
But more than that, all of mysymptoms had been invalidated.
Erased from importance.

(05:49):
Why?
Because the test said I was fine.
What I didn't realize at the timeis that the tests have a scale
and doctors only pay attentionto the results from one side.
We are gonna talk about the wellness scalehere in just a minute, but first, can we

(06:13):
talk about how incredibly disappointing, disheartening, and heartbreaking even it
is to go to a doctor and not get answersand support that you're looking for?
When you're in search of answers thefirst worst thing that could happen
is that they come back with an answerthat's terrible, or like this life

(06:33):
altering diagnosis like diabetes, orcancer, or something that you're going
to have to live with or overcome.
But the second worst thing youcan hear is "nothing is wrong".
Because the truth is there'sno path forward after that.
There's no medicine,there's no supplement.

(06:54):
There's no plan to change yourlifestyle because you don't even
know what you're working towards.
And ultimately, it meansno one is going to help me.
No one is gonna help me feel better.
No one's gonna help me figure out what'sgoing on, and maybe even no one even
believes that something is wrong with me.

(07:18):
It's an absolutely terrible feeling.
It'll make you feel soalone and so hopeless.
And ultimately, you're going tocontinue living uncomfortable,
but possibly now with less hopethat you'll even get better.
Somewhere deep inside of you, you mayknow that you were made to be well, but

(07:42):
you're just not sure how to get there.
Let me tell you somethingreally important.
When a doctor won't help you,it's not because you're making
things up or overreacting.
It's because their job isto respond to clear disease.
And until you qualify as sick, you are invisible to the system.

(08:05):
But it certainly doesn't meanthat you don't deserve support.
And here's the hard truth thatno one wants to say out loud: a
doctor will steward your illness, but you must steward your health.
If you want to feel well again, ifyou want energy, clarity, peace,

(08:28):
balance, you have to stop waitingfor someone to fix it for you.
You have to choose to partnerwith your body, to steward the
health that has been given to you.
You have to choose to partner with yourbody, and most importantly, you have to
realize that no one will steward yourhealth better than you can, and that's

(08:51):
because nobody cares about how great youfeel when you wake up in the morning.
Nobody cares as much as you about theenergy that you have throughout the day,
to not only do your day-to-day activities, but to go on vacation and enjoy it,

(09:13):
to go on a hike and have the energyfor it, to do special activities with
your kids and have the patience for it.
Nobody cares about how you show upin this life more than you do, and so
you are most fully equipped to stewardyour health better than anybody else.

(09:34):
But the good news is, is thatyou don't have to do it alone.
I want to go back to the wellness scalethat I mentioned earlier, and if you
go into the blog, there's a blog postto accommodate every podcast episode,
and sometimes I include additionaldetails or information on there.
But if you go on there, you cansee this picture of the wellness

(09:58):
scale and on the right hand sidethere's the scale of illness.
How sick are you?
Okay, so from the middle to theright hand side, you can see
on a scale "how sick are you?".
And that's what doctors are testing for.
They want to see, do your labs comeback with a marker that indicates

(10:23):
that you are sick enough to receivetreatment and usually a medication?
But if you are not, if your numbersdon't indicate that you are sick enough,
then they'll tell you that you're okay.
But essentially what that will dois if you go home and you do nothing

(10:43):
and you know you're not fine, basically what they're saying is
"wait until you feel worse and thencome back and then we'll help you".
But what's missing from thisequation is the whole other side
of the wellness scale to the left.
So if you are in the middle and you lookto the right, there's a scale of illness.

(11:07):
But if you look to the left, there is a scale of wellness too.
But the typical medical community isnot going to look at how healthy you
could be, or how healthy you should be.
They're just looking at, areyou sick enough for treatment?
And so when you are stuck here in themiddle, knowing that you're not quite

(11:28):
well enough, you know, "I should feelbetter, but I don't", and you're not
quite sick enough to get treatment either.
You find yourself stuck in whatI called "the pit in the middle".
You're stuck in this pit of notbeing healthy like you want to and
not being sick enough to get help.

(11:49):
So what do you do when you'restuck in the pit in the middle?
This is where I found myself yearsago, and it would take me many, many
years to figure out that this wasactually a thing that when I was
stuck in the pit, that there was analternative source that I could turn to
for help besides the doctor's office.

(12:10):
And ultimately I would try to figurethat out myself for a lot of years,
just trying to figure out nutritionand natural solutions on my own,
which took a really, really long time, over a decade before I could really
connect all the dots, but it did setme on a path toward better healing.
But this is exactly whereholistic wellness comes in.

(12:33):
Unlike sick care, holistic wellnesscoaching is focused on the opposite side
of the spectrum, which is optimal health.
We don't have to wait for illness.
We can proactively work now to restoreyour body gently and naturally.
A holistic wellness coach will helpyou listen to your symptoms and

(12:54):
what your body is trying to say.
Help you connect the dots betweendifferent issues, guide you
to a personalized root causeapproach that fits your life.
Respect your biochemicalindividuality, because you're
not a cookie cutter protocol.
You are a unique person with needsand likes and connections that

(13:18):
are specialized to who you are.
And they'll help you create a real plan, not just vague advice, like, oh, "you
need to eat healthier", or "reduce yourstress", or "work out more" with no real
understanding of what that actually means.
They'll help you create a real plan, areal, tangible, actionable plan to move

(13:40):
forward with, and then they'll provideyou the accountability and support
to help you walk out that plan too.
That kind of support doesn't justhelp you feel better temporarily.
It helps you restore the natural systemsGod designed in your body to work well.
And that is what real healthstewardship looks like.

(14:02):
And here's the thing I lovethe most, as you steward your
own health, you're modelingsomething powerful to your family.
Your kids are watching, theysee how you prioritize rest,
nourishment, movement and healing.
They learn to listen to their bodiestoo, and they learn that wellness is

(14:23):
something that we both protect andnurture, not something we outsource.
You're not just creating abetter season for yourself.
You're creating a legacy ofwellness within your family.
A legacy of wellness that will equipyour children to show up fully for

(14:45):
the life that God has for them.
That's free from preventable illness, freefrom confusion about how their body works,
and what they should eat, and what'sgood for them, and free to run strong
with endurance the race set before them.
So if you're stuck in the middlenow, not sick, but not well.

(15:09):
I want you to know thatthere is another way.
You don't have to settle for feeling blahand being told that it's all in your head.
You can choose to step into yourrole as the steward of your body.
Your health matters.
You matter, and you werecreated for wellness.
