Speaker 4 (05:46):
Be here man. I appreciate you guys having me on.

Speaker 3 (05:47):
Thank you, thank you for joining us. You know you
get the honor you you take the maiden voyage with
us first. This is our first podcast of the season.
We have to wait a couple of weeks. We gotta
go in more honored. Thank you and we call that
about this like a baptism.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
Here we go.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
We get it started. Now let me ask you before
we get going, Dante ab bless its fan.

Speaker 4 (06:08):
Not well, but what can go.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
Ahead and give us? Give us what you got O excellent.
It's luckily hit on those Raiders.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
That's exactly what you guys said to the raiders all
like you said this to the chiefs Alan, We're here.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
We're about to take over the West.

Speaker 3 (06:26):
Get ready, uh, because we have a formidable side on defense,
on offense, special teams, a complete squadron. Dante and it
was a big time team win, you go into the
death start and you force choke the Raiders and you
get that victory.

Speaker 1 (06:38):
It's gotta feel very sweet, no doubt.

Speaker 4 (06:40):
It felt amazing. It felt amazing. The atmosphere was high.
It was It's a it's a rivaly game that I
paid attention to for most of my life, you know,
as a football fan. So just to be a part
of it, to be in the thick of it, it
was awesome. It's a great experience and we we're grateful
to come out with the win.

Speaker 1 (06:57):
Man.

Speaker 4 (06:57):
We put a lot into it, so it feels really
good to go in there and take it up.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
This is really cool what you said, Uh Donte dis
Sponcho by the way, about being for the first time
being part of this rivalry that you have seen from far,
and how does it feel? How do you how do
you even explain to being that stadium? You know, you
know how the Raiders, you know, how how is there?
You know their their fan base, you know how much
they love their team, and you had a lot of

(07:25):
Chargers fans in that those stance as well, you know,
so you guys were not alone. And uh, how does
it feel for you to play this game? Oh?

Speaker 4 (07:35):
It felt great. It felt great. Like I said, the
energy was high. Those Raded fans came out and they
show it out and they made a lot of noise
and they I mean they turned it up for us
as well, you know, just to see it, just to
be in it as you see a lot of the
black and goal, you see all the stuff that you see,
you know, like I said, from growing up. You know,
I was a huge Charles Woodson fan growing up, So

(07:56):
just kind of seeing that ego, having that feel and
know and being on the charger side. Man, those fans
came out, They came and they showed out.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
You know.

Speaker 4 (08:03):
I remember pulling in on the bus pregame and just
seeing all the charge of fans, you know, pointing at
the bus, you know, clapping at the bus and stuff
like that, and I'm just like thinking, like, yeah, like
you said, like dang, we're not here alone.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
You know.

Speaker 4 (08:15):
It's kind of it's kind of knowing how hard Raider
fans go for Raiders, but just to be a part
of this charge of culture and just to see how
those guys came out and supported us was even more
awesome and it kind of gave more blood to the rivalry.

Speaker 3 (08:27):
For real, for me at least, absolutely, it's almost gonna
Dante Jackson, I can poodle Chargers and and Dante, thank
you for joining buncho. I'm Adrian by the way in
the formal introduction, and you're part of the familia that
now for sure. And Dante talking about this rivalry just
kind of take us through. We had Eric Allen sitting
with us. It was the honor the presence of a
Hall of Famer there with us in the book, and

(08:48):
he was kind of breaking down. He was so impressed
with you guys just from the gate, from the jump,
you know, Deyon Kenley. You know sometimes we said go
go you're a ranger. You know, he's like he loves
that power ranger vibe. Right, But yeah, that's a great
But these guys are are the ones. I mean you
the Mentor Soldiers. Now you talk about a nickname, that's
how we dropped it on the Defense, the Mentor Soldiers.

(09:09):
What does Jesse Mentor do that works that's so special,
that gets everybody round up and everyone on the same page.

Speaker 4 (09:15):
I mean, he's always just a step ahead, you know.
I think that the best thing I see is just
he putting guys in position to be successful. You know,
a lot of defenses you being. I mean this is
my eighth year in the league, so a lot of
defenses you're in. It's the scheme is the scheme. But
with coach Mentor is like, I'm gonna put you where
I feel like you are going to make the best
impact for us. And you see that with a lot

(09:37):
of players like like you mentioned Dayon, like you mentioned
Derwin Tarheeb Alohi. You know, these are guys who are
who are being put in position to you know, have
their talents on display. And I think you can say
the same for me, you know, just being in this defense.
I think that you know, they just do a great job.
But coach Mentor just does a great job of just
putting guys where they need to be just for for

(09:59):
for the defense to work for also you personally to work.
And I think that's probably the biggest thing, you know,
And like I said, always being a step ahead, always
expecting us, always knowing what we could get and oning
what what they could do, and knowing how they were
going to attack us and stuff like that. So that
just goes a long way for comfort, for confidence and
everything like that. You know, you get out there and

(10:19):
you don't have a million things running through your head
because you kind of already feel, all right, this is
what it's gonna be, this is how it's gonna work,
This is how I can affect it, This is how
a low he can affect it, this is how Deon
can affect it. And you just have more confidence out there.
So that's how you get to see us flying around,
everybody getting to the ball, everybody making plays on the
ball and stuff like that. And also just being deep.
You know, we have a ton of starters on this defense. Man.

(10:42):
Anybody can go out there and make a player at
any time. You know, there's really no depth. Man, It's
just a bunch of guys hungry and and and doing
the most with their opportunities.

Speaker 2 (10:50):
For real, H don't do as a as a veteran
free agent, you had options, Why do you choose the Chargers?

Speaker 4 (10:58):
I mean just just just from but I see on
the outside looking in. You know, I was on the
outside looking in this past year, and uh, they didn't
look like a team or an organization that had just
put this put this group together. You know, this was
everybody's first year together. Was last year and it didn't
look like that on film, So just having a chance
to be a part of this it was no brainer

(11:19):
for me. I'm a veteran, so I know what it
what it takes, I know what it's supposed to look like.
And just seeing these guys on film, I knew that
I can come here and just be a great piece
and be uh something that can that can help, you know,
not even thinking personally, just think about what I can
do to help this team, and just to be a
part of something this special, be a part of something
so connected. It was it was a no brainer for me. Man.

(11:42):
I'm just blessed to be able to be a part
and and constantly just you know, just finding my way through. Man,
It's it's been awesome. These guys have welcomed me in
from from day one. Ot as even in O t
as you this is voluntary. Every single player is here
from the top to the bottom. Khalil mackets here every day,
Derrywin James is here every day. Justin Herbert here every day.
These are the best, some of the best players in

(12:03):
the league. Hall of Fame guys are here every day.
So just for my first day here, I already seen it,
like wow, like you know, you go other places. You know,
some players don't even go to O t as you
know understand just seeing just the connectedness like I saw
on the outside. Now that I'm a part of it,
I'm like, all right, now I see why you know
this works and now I see why this is. This
came together so fast and these guys won eleven games,

(12:25):
and like I said, I'm just it was a no
brainer for me. But when I when I got here
and I seen it, now I'm like, yeah, it's perfect, man,
I can I can definitely do this, man. So anything
I can do to help, anything I can do to
be a part of it, I'm with it. And it's
just working.

Speaker 2 (12:38):
Man.

Speaker 4 (12:38):
I'm I'm blessing.

Speaker 3 (12:39):
I'm grateful and we are grateful also for your time
jumping in there and all of this energy, Dante, that's
what we see why you're so good on the field,
and we can imagine just this and it.

Speaker 1 (12:49):
Yeah, that's that. That that's the word.

Speaker 3 (12:51):
There's another word in spanding for what you're talking about.
And that's something that Jim Harbaugh came in the culture
and it just changed almost overnight instant. Je Ortiz, who's
also been brilliant getting all the pieces war gym for
the staff and then getting you guys out to work.
But like you said, that my thumb, that edge for
all of you guys have that stone cold killer inside
of you and you put that as a cohesive unit.

(13:13):
No surprise, our charger power is up to nothing.

Speaker 4 (13:16):
Yeah, no doubt, no doubt, high voltage.

Speaker 1 (13:18):
Baby.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
Now to close this out, and we're talking about cool
through that, we want to kind of have a little
bit of fun. But first things first, we call him
the war Chief and a lot of metal metal Derwin.
James just kind of wanted to ask you what's Derwin like?
Just watching him and then you look on the other
side and you see ads justin Herbert and getting your
Jedi training against one of the top qbs.

Speaker 1 (13:37):
In the game.

Speaker 4 (13:38):
I mean, Derwin Derwin is amazing, is amazing man. He's
as advertised. We came in the league in the same
year and even in college at Florida State. You know,
I've always been a huge fan. I'm a dB guy.
So just you know, you you can't really pass up
guys like like Derwin from a from a sense of
like watching and seeing it. Even in the league, you know,
it's all pro for a reason. But just being in

(14:00):
the same locker room with him and being on the
same team and on the same feel with him, you
feel it. You know, you feel like you see why
he plays so many positions. You see why he's all
pro because he just bring attensiveness and energy to every
single thing he do, to the meeting room, to a workout,
to a walk through. He's always talking. He's always making
sure everybody's on the same page. You know, he will

(14:23):
even look at you during the game and be like, hey, bro,
I love you, bro, like like you know what I'm saying.
Just stuff like that, Just little stuff like that. Man,
It's like it just everything just speaks to his warrior mentality.
You know, everything he does, he doesn't approach nothing halfway,
and he won't let you on side him approach nothing halfway,
and just just making sure everybody's going in the same direction. Man,

(14:43):
like he he could be. He plays a million positions
and he will still look out there to make sure like, hey, Djack,
you're good. This is what we're doing right here. Hey,
this is what we're doing right here. You know what
I'm saying. So just always making sure everybody's just on
the same page, making sure everybody's good man, and and
and he just never takes just foot off the gas.
You know, it's a blessing just to be around a
guy like that, you know, beyond football, just being around

(15:06):
a guy like that that just always want to make
sure you're good and make sure you know that he's
with you. You can't, you can't. You can't count how
many guys like that on your hand, how any time
you be around that, just being a football player, So
it's a blessing. And I can say the same for
Justin Man. He's just just a leader, just the leader's
stone cold leader. Man. He makes sure everybody is on

(15:28):
the same page. And like I said, I've seen this
from from OTA's. You know, like the voluntary part of
the of our schedule, you know, the only schedule part
of our schedule throughout the year that's voluntary that you
don't have to show up to. You know, you see
these top guys, the heads of the snake. You see
these guys here every single day, being vocal, being leaders,
you know, joking with the guys, being around the guys,

(15:49):
you know, when they could be doing anything with their time,
you know, they could be with their own personal trainer,
they can be with their own workout, doing their own routine.

Speaker 1 (15:57):
You know.

Speaker 4 (15:57):
But you see these guys in the building every day,
so you kind of you you know what the culture
is around here, and you know what that this Skuy's
the limit for this, for this organization and for this team.

Speaker 2 (16:08):
Don't today we record these is the day that we
all found out that fortunately, best news possible, Khalil one
need surgery for the injury. So what does it mean
when you when you found out when you heard the
new said it wasn't season ending and that there is
a real chance that we'll have Khalil back during the season.

(16:29):
What does Khalil Mak means for you, for this team,
for the defense.

Speaker 4 (16:35):
Man, Khalil means everything, you know, Just like I can
say the same thing I said about Darrylin about Khalil Man,
He's just he's just the ultimate pro, the ultimate pro,
future Hall of Famer, you know, Like I said, you
don't you don't get to be like you rarely even
get to see guys like that from your couch. So
just being around a guy like like Khalil Man just
leave by example. Guy, you know, he's been in it

(16:57):
so long. He's still he still approaches every single day
with super intentive, this super professionality like and just to
see him go down, you know, he still didn't make
it about himself. He still made it about the team.
Like he didn't even lay on the ground. He got
up with his arm hurting and still ran off the
field because he didn't want the team to stop and
they want nothing to stop. And he still managed to

(17:18):
make an injury that looked like that, you know about
the team, you know, so just hearing that you that
we possibly gonna get him back, you know, it's just awesome.
It means a lot to the team. Always was praying
for him, just you know, as a player, as a guy,
because you know, he's one of those cool, laid back guys.
You know you're not gonna hear a lot, but you're

(17:39):
gonna see him doing the right thing and going in
the right direction. So super prayers up for Khalil Man
is great, awesome news in the locker room, just to
know that it's not as drastic as it as it
may seem. And we're just static about that.

Speaker 3 (17:53):
Absolutely. I think that it was all positive news across
the whole rego familia. That's what we wanted to hear,
just the best and the silver lining with the given injury,
closing it out here with you, Dante, and now we're
gonna have a little bit fun. We always close out
with a little something more fun. And I like dropping nicknames.
Sponcho knows he's been with me for the ride for
a long long time. And you know much your action Jackson,
we could go with that sometimes. But then when you

(18:15):
get a pick, I have a feeling I'm gonna get
to Jackson five scenecoor, you know, take that ball and
I want to say, oh, baby, get one more pick.
I don't know something like that. I know it's gonna
I'm gonna feel it.

Speaker 1 (18:24):
Man.

Speaker 3 (18:25):
Tar Heep's still sometimes sing Still of the Night, the
O G song, So something's gonna get into the flow man.

Speaker 1 (18:30):
And I'm just excited. What are you excited about being
part of the Suns.

Speaker 4 (18:36):
I'm I'm just more excited about just continue to make players,
continue to do my part, man, and continue to just
you know, be be a leader and be a ved professional.

Speaker 2 (18:45):
Man.

Speaker 4 (18:45):
I'm I'm grateful to even you know, scrap it up
this long, so just to be able to come here
and still make a difference in this league and then
it's on his team is just amazing. So I'm looking
forward to making a huge amount of more plays and
giving you guys something to hear about, man.

Speaker 1 (19:02):
And what about really what it is you know, and
what about off the field with l A.

Speaker 3 (19:05):
I mean, you come to the West Coast, there's so
much culture in Loss. You get it from all different
parts of Earth.

Speaker 4 (19:11):
We're all here, yeah, yeah, and me and my wife
and my kids. Man, we we've definitely been enjoying it
being on the East coast so long. We're from down south.
Played most of my career on the East Coast in Carolina,
So just getting a chance to come out here. We
actually got married out here, Me and my wife got
married out here, and yeah in La So just just

(19:32):
you know that already being a part of our story,
being a part of our you know, our relationship, you know,
just getting a chance to come out live here, play here,
and getting a chance to don these charge of colors. Man,
it's been awesome. We're taking it all in and we're
super super grateful for this opportunity and we're just gonna
keep on making the most out of it.

Speaker 2 (19:50):
That's not thank you so much, Dantell. I mean I
want to let it Adrian close close it up. I mean,
it's really cool to see you guys play together, to
be that family that you need to be on the field,
and I think the sky is a limit for you guys.
I mean you're just scratching the surface of what you
you guys can be. So thank you so much for
your time, for being with us, for the energy.

Speaker 3 (20:11):
We're gonna close it out with something with you, Dante,
because that's what we're gonna start doing. You're gonna since
you got the maiden voyage with us this season, so
you get to do it first.

Speaker 1 (20:19):
