The following.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
He is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and
the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
Speaker 3 (00:10):
Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (00:13):
This is Cowboys.
Speaker 4 (00:15):
Storyline with Nick Eatman. Good morning and welcome to Cowboys Storyline.
I'm Nick Eatman. Thursday, December twenty sixth Merry Christmas to everyone.
I hope it was a festive holiday and got everything
that you wanted, present wise and family wise. Now you
(00:38):
can kind of revert back to the Cowboys and we
can talk about the Cowboys and the Eagles or Cowboys
and whatever you want to talk about here. It's that
point in the season where, you know what, we're starting
to loosen the grip a little bit on what we
talk about next year. And somebody asked the other day
about draft picks and and what what position of need
(01:03):
and all that, and you know, we're almost We're almost
there to that point. So I think pretty much everything
still on the table. We can talk about what you
guys want, uh here, and you can talk about favorite
Christmas presents that you got, And looks like we've.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
Would hit the Christmas movies.
Speaker 4 (01:20):
I did you know, I tried to watch It's a
Wonderful Life. I actually turned it on. It's the black
and white version, I guess, and it just it didn't
It didn't stick, So I don't know. Next thing, you know,
I'm watching Elf again. So anyways, all right eight eight
eight eight five five two two nine seven, let's get
this thing started.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
Dialing Northport, Florida.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
You're first, Hey, good morning, Now are you what's up?
Speaker 5 (01:47):
So track going on Tuesday? But Christy yelled at me,
so I he kicked me off. I had a bad connection,
so I thought he was crampus for a minute. That nomskitting.
He's like the nicest guy ever. So but I couldn't
get through Tuesday, so I guess a day late. But
Merry Christmas.
Speaker 4 (02:03):
Christmas, and I never got.
Speaker 5 (02:05):
My favorite movie, and so I'll go with Elf. Like
like Rob said, but I didn't want to say. This
season's kind of been like home alone a little bit, right,
Like every time you turn a corner there's like a
brick to the face or like a swinging paint can
to the nuts, like if you're Jaaling Tolber in Pittsburgh.
So you know, I guess that's a fitting a fitting
second this movie for me. Yeah, I'm very representative of
(02:26):
this season for sure.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
A brick to the face.
Speaker 4 (02:28):
Yeah, yeah, true, it's been it's been that kind of actually, yeah,
and I actually have referenced this this movie, that movie
at another point. It was just like the whole season
was walking like you know what, he's walking with the
groceries and you just walk in, walk in, and you're like,
all right, I know this is not not good. The
next thing, you know, the bottom just falls out. That's
(02:50):
that's kind of been what what this season has been like?
Here that was the Cincinnati game, like all right, and
now it's done.
Speaker 5 (02:58):
Yeah, yeah, for sure, it's it's been a rough one,
but you know, it's it's been enjoyable though, because this
is the first season where I got to really talk
about the ride a lot, and I got to experience
the ride this year with a lot of new friends
and stuff. So then even though it's kind of sucked
the season, you know, it's been still really good on
the other side. So I kind of want to be
(03:19):
I'm gonna go quick here. I kind of want to
beat a dead horse this one last time. It's the
last time'm going to talk about it until it comes
up down the road. I guess a dead reindeer, I
guess it's fitting for the holidays. But the salary cap
stuff you mentioned on one O five three couple weeks ago,
I think we're talking about two different things here, because
when we or I guess I talk about the salary
(03:41):
cap and restructuring deals and all that, I mean that
you can come up with, I'm talking about what I
call pretexts, And I guess I want to make sure
all the fans kind of understand this too, because I've
talked about with a lot of people. Just because you
you free up a ton of cap space, which you can,
you can do over one hundred, but it doesn't mean
it's there for you to spend, because then you still
to count for all the unresearched free.
Speaker 4 (04:02):
Agency you have.
Speaker 5 (04:03):
You got to sign draft picks, you gotta have money
allocated for that. You got to pay off these incentive
bonuses like you mentioned on air. So just because and
all the strow a number, just because you do one
hundred million, doesn't mean you have one hundred million to
go pursue high priced free agents. You still have your
debts to you know, look at when you look at
like a balance sheet, you got your credits and debits.
You still got to take stuff away from whatever you
free up, and all the things that they can do
(04:26):
to free up that cap, I wouldn't necessarily do it,
like moving on from Terrence Steel. Well you can do
that and make fourteen million dollars back on the cap,
but now you don't have a right tackle. So you know,
that's the same thing with the two safeties. You can
go in from Hooker and Wilson, but that's eight million
dollars you can between the two of them. But now
you don't have safeties unless you feel confident in the
two guys like I hurt this year. So like there's
pluses and minuses. And just because like I said, is
(04:49):
to wrap it up, just because you're freeing up cap
doesn't mean that cap is free to use when you
go on like over the over the cap or the
other one there spot track. You can look at how
a roster is built and you can like all the
teams in the NFL, and the majority of players take
up less than one percent in the cap. You got
what sixty eight sixty nine guys you got to account for,
including practice squad, right, and the majority take up less
(05:09):
than one percent. You want to balance that and have
more guys in the meeting. But when you look at
the Cowboys, it's like there's a handful of guys making
more than like two three percent, and my goodness, there's
a ton of guys in that less than one percent
rage and they're still going to be there if they
don't do some of these moves like restructuring DAK and
CD and some of these guys, but some that's riskier
than what maybe you probably want to do, especially with
(05:31):
DAK and like Treylon Diggs. So I'll leave you with that,
and here we had to say, and happy holidays, man, all.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
Right, thank you.
Speaker 4 (05:38):
I don't know if a lot of fans understand everything
that you just said, because it's you know, it's not
the easiest thing to talk about the salary cap. But
I'll say this though, you know, when you're that's why
I never really get into it much, because you could say, well,
we've got you know, thirty million dollars under the cap.
(06:01):
So a lot of fans would look at that and go, well,
we can get three players for that for ten million each,
or you know, two fifteen million dollars, whatever it is.
But remember this, I think it's about twenty four million
dollars that that you have to set aside for draft picks, practice, squad,
game day elevations. Uh. And then also like your injury report,
(06:26):
i'man injured I mean injured reserve, your incentive bonuses, things
like that. So you know, just to play it safe,
you've got to have about twenty four or twenty five million,
maybe even a little bit more in a season like
this with all these injured player guys on injured reserve.
I mean, you know you put Braindon Cooks on injury reserve. Well,
you're still paying him, but you're getting another guy in
and now you're paying him. So you're paying about seventy
(06:48):
five players when it looks like you're paying like fifty three.
You actually have a lot more than that. So that's
that's why it's it's always kind of tough to calculate.
And that's why those websites like spowtrack and overthecap dot
com like they can only do with what they do
and based off of what the numbers are. But knowing
(07:08):
that the teams itself have a different agenda, They got
different books because they know what they're going to do
and what they're going to spend. So it's kind of.
It's kind of hard to go off of it like that.
All right, let's go to Brian in Kansas City.
Speaker 6 (07:23):
Good morning, sir, Good morning.
Speaker 4 (07:24):
How are you.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
I'm doing all right, man, I've enjoyed, enjoyed Christmas. I
got a little bit of a excuse me, I got
a little bit of a cold. But all right, I did,
I did, Thank you. I enjoyed. I enjoyed my Christmas.
How about you?
Speaker 4 (07:37):
Pretty good? Pretty good for sure?
Speaker 7 (07:39):
Right on?
Speaker 2 (07:40):
Man, I asked Chris if anybody if Santa dropped off
like an Eagles win while you guys were out celebrating Christmas,
you know, maybe at the star He said no, no,
he said he didn't see one, you know, just waiting
for us when when he got back to work.
Speaker 4 (07:56):
So yeah, I didn't see that. But but we'll see,
I mean, we'll see what happens if you know, I mean,
maybe they have to play with the Eagles have to
play with their backup quarterback. You know, you know how
hard you know, you know, things change a little bit
when you have to play with your backup quarterback. I
don't know if the Cowboys know this, but yeah.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
Yeah, no kidding. I got a couple of personnel questions.
I thought i'd throw out there and see what you think.
So two people that were kind of you know, coming
into the season, we thought we're going to play big,
major roles based on what we had previously seen. But
I say major roles, bigger roles than what we saw
based just on potential. And in one case, which is Ferguson,
(08:39):
I thought he was going to be, you know, like
a top tier tight end this year. And I don't
know if it's obviously he missed a couple of games
and I don't you know, there's a change in quarterback,
all that stuff factors in, but he has not been
the dominant factor that I kind of figured on. And
then I was kind of surprised that they seem to
have given up on the Hunter lip Key experiment. So
(09:01):
I'll hang up and listen to your thoughts on that, man,
And thanks for taking guys for being there today.
Speaker 4 (09:07):
All right, Thanks Brian, Merry Christmas to you. You know
you say giving up on Hunter Lipke, I mean he
plays a lot. So I mean, did you think as
a running back maybe or or whatever? I mean, uh,
you know, he's not He's not gonna be a tailback
in the NFL. I mean, he doesn't have that kind
(09:28):
of speed and quickness. Uh he can get the ball
every now and again, and and you know, I thought
they would they would give it to him a little
bit more. But I mean he plays, I mean there's
there's not like they've given up on him. He plays.
He plays a lot, but but he's not as a
featured back or anything like that. They don't throw him
the ball that much. And you know, and and some
(09:51):
of the tight ends you know have played well. I
mean Schoonmaker has has had made that leak, but and
so's a span forward.
Speaker 1 (09:59):
I think both of them done a nice job.
Speaker 4 (10:01):
But you're right, Ferguson, I put him as one of
the and I hate to say this, you know, because
he's everybody likes him, and he's done a good job
and he's been hurt some. But I do think his
him not taking that leap is one of the more
disappointing things of the of the season. You know, they
they needed that. You know, you walked into this season,
(10:22):
You're like, all right, there's five to ten guys that
have to take that jump. This is their free agency
right here. This is they're not going to get free agents.
They need these guys to take the leap here, and
uh one of them, of course was Sam Williams and
he gets hurt.
Speaker 1 (10:41):
You know. Another one was.
Speaker 4 (10:45):
Brock Hoffman and then he you know, he gets jumped
over by Cooper Bebe and then ends up, you know,
ends up playing. Well now that that he's he's had that,
you know that jump. Hunter Lipke was one that you know,
we looked at and was okay, said was a pro
Bowl player, a really good player, needed to be a
great player. You know, the list goes on and on.
(11:08):
Some Mazzie Smith was was one. Did he take that leap?
I think he he went up the stairs a little bit,
but I don't think he you know, in pole vault
to a next level or anything like that. So those
guys didn't take that big leap. And then the players
that were already here, a lot of them got hurt.
So that's part of it. That's part of it, only
(11:29):
only some of the issues of what this team struggled with.
All right, let's go to a Travis in San Antonio.
Speaker 8 (11:36):
Hey, Nick, how are you good?
Speaker 4 (11:38):
How are you doing good?
Speaker 3 (11:40):
Good?
Speaker 8 (11:40):
I hope everyone had a good day yesterday. Didn't get
didn't get any Cole, So hopefully that was a positive
for everybuddy.
Speaker 4 (11:47):
Yeah, No, I don't not, I mean not that I
know of. Unless no, no colting home. No, No, that's good,
that's good, not at all. All right, Cole Beasley, Jersey,
There you go, There you go. Now, I'm kidding. I'm sorry. Sorry.
Speaker 8 (12:05):
I was gonna say you were right back in the
saddle today, and then I was gonna say right back
in the play but so uh but no, I just
want to hit you with three things, and you can
hit on any three of them. I'm making pretty quick.
The last time I called and talked to you, I
was talking to you about Dak and the play calling,
and I know you kind of mentioned after I dropped
about like maybe, well maybe this cruise they don't need
(12:28):
a sixty million dollars quarterback. And that's sort of not
what I was saying. So I'm going to send myself
a little bit on that when and just clarify for you.
It's more or less like if you look at like
a Jared Goff, for instance, He's making fifty three million,
so it's not a whole big difference. But what they
do is they look at him and they go like,
this is what Jared Goff is good at, this is
what he's not good at. How do we support him
to get the best out of him? And I just
(12:49):
think that's something McCarthy could look at in the offseason
and go, how do I now support my quarterback that's
had a couple of lower body injuries and and help
get these wide receivers maybe open, like we've seen with
some of the play action stuff even last week. So
it's more or less just I hope he changes philosophically
some of the some of the stuff he calls if
he comes back to maybe support the quarterback when it's
(13:13):
not Cooper Rush. So that's that, And then I wanted
to see I know the last injury report I saw
Nick Austin Richards is a full go is do you
have any indication if he's going to play, because I
think the last two games him playing would be a
huge evaluation for the scene. If he can play left
tackle based on how he played so far, and then
if he plays well the last two games, I think
(13:35):
that'd be a huge boost. And like their plans of
you know who starts next year or whatnot, So now there's.
Speaker 4 (13:42):
No okay, no, no, no, you're right, You're one hundred
percent right on to that. And yes, I think that
that would be a great addition, just just from an
evaluation standpoint, like you said, and he did practice. He
is still on injured reserve, but he did practice, so
they opened up that window. And I mean, I think
(14:03):
that the idea would be for him to come back
and and certainly maybe play in a game or two.
I don't know about starting, but you know, I mean,
if it's not going to be guiding, then yes, you know,
one hundred now one of the two no offense to
Tuma is just that's not your future.
Speaker 8 (14:20):
So yeah, and that's why that's why I was kind
of wondering if they'll do that, because they've sort of
done that with Tuma anyways, Like, if he does come back,
let's again this is not me saying I'm giving up on.
Speaker 7 (14:31):
Guiding, but let's get him.
Speaker 8 (14:32):
If we can get him in the last two games
and get a lot of tape that they can evaluate,
that would be good. And then last thing I wanted
to throw out there just to give some added context
because this actually would surprised me Nick when you look
at his total career. I know, We've had a lot
of Jordan Lewis love, which is which is I think
is awesome. But I just pulled it up because I
was curious in his career, Nick, just for like something
to put in the back of your head. He's got
(14:54):
three hundred and seventy six career tackles, nine and a
half sacks, five forced fumbles, nine fumble recoveries, and ten interceptions,
which kind of surprised me. So like for his career,
I would say he's been a very very solid plus
above average contributor. So I just want to throw that
out there for everybody and hope everybody has a great
(15:14):
New year and beat Eagles.
Speaker 4 (15:16):
All right, Thank you, Travis, appreciate that I listen to
those stats. I'm gonna I'm gonna look that up as
far as so I think I heard that right. Ten interceptions,
ten sacks, or maybe nine and a half sacks, ten interceptions,
and ten force fumbles, ten sacks. Anyways, that's a pretty
(15:41):
good you know, that's a pretty good stat line for
a cornerback, you know, for a corner that can make
those plays. And you know, it's it's weird because I
still kind of always view him as kind of a
younger guy. I mean, he's certainly not. I mean, twenty
seventeen was his draft and he was, you know, definitely
the best player from that draft, third round pick, and
(16:05):
had some you know, had some character concerns just because
he was dealing there was a legal matter that he
was dealing with and uh, and the Cowboys did a
lot of homework on him and said, no, no, this
is going to get resolved. Uh, this is this is
not who he is. He was being accused of something
that wasn't true, and and the Cowboys stood by him
(16:27):
and said, no, we we we we we think that
he's going to be a really really great player. Great addition,
they got great value for him. And look at him now,
you know him. He's he's been outstanding. And I bet
he comes back. As long as the Cowboys can pay him,
you know what he thinks he deserves, he probably will
come back. All right, let's go. Let's go to Davian
(16:48):
in Illinois. Davian, what's up? Man? Now are you on
the storyliners? This is who I talked to.
Speaker 1 (16:57):
A few nights ago.
Speaker 4 (16:58):
Oh man, this is me. Let's go. Well, first of all,
let's do what we have to do. Here because you're
a first time caller. We go here, we go. Even
though I know a lot of people that that are
that are on the spaces on on Twitter, Uh, they
know you very well. So, but you have never been
(17:19):
able to call in. You said you would, You said
the Christmas holidays and and that that time would open
up your time to do that.
Speaker 1 (17:26):
So what's up?
Speaker 4 (17:26):
Man?
Speaker 7 (17:28):
What's going on?
Speaker 3 (17:28):
Man?
Speaker 7 (17:29):
Just so happy to finally get on. It's been it's
been a long time coming, to be honest. They wanted
to get on for the longest, but of course work
I work overnight, so it's just it's hard to get
in when I always send them a question of it
to my piece, but say sometimes asks them. But uh,
it's finally trying to finally get a good show myself.
Speaker 4 (17:49):
What do you got? What do you got for me?
Speaker 7 (17:52):
Well? Yeah, man, just a quick question. I've been thinking
about it all morning because I was I told Ireen
I was gonna get on and uh and try to
get on this morning. I guess it's you know, I
told you on the on the Twitter space that my
my my game. I wanted to get the link back
was this game here? Because I was in the stadium
for the last Philly game. So since we pretty much
(18:15):
ruined my my fund of having a good draft position,
it's trying to just go get a link back. And
it seemed like Dan Jalen is out will probably be
out of dealing with concussion right now whatever, So I'm
hoping that we can get that back. So I guess
the one question I have, you know, on on the
other flip side of that is, uh, if you was
advising mister Jones, what was the first thing you do
(18:37):
after our final game next week we get Washington, what
was you what the first thing you'll be trying to
put on the agenda for moving forward?
Speaker 4 (18:45):
Uh? Well, let's let's stay on the line. Let's because
I want to ask you that that too. So first
agenda game is over, last game of the season, it's over,
and you're saying, what what would you do?
Speaker 2 (18:57):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (18:57):
What what mister Jones to do?
Speaker 4 (18:59):
Well, you know, you gotta you gotta start with if
you're gonna make any coaching decisions, you got to start
at the top. So I mean, make your decision if
you if you don't do it already, figure out what
you're gonna do right away. I mean, like you have
to do that. And I you know, being selfish here
because if I know what a coaching change means and
(19:19):
all that, I I I don't want to see a
coaching change. But I also I think that that they
played well enough for McCarthy and with all the situations,
all the injuries is part of it, not all, but
I think with everything involved, uh, they're playing well for him.
He's always pretty much played well in December. It's January
(19:39):
that's been the issue obviously for this team. I'm i'm
I take care of that and I and I bring
him back. That's part of the first thing that I do,
because that's where you have to start everything else. For
the coaching staff, what would you do?
Speaker 7 (19:52):
Uh? Well, you know, I mean, sut spaces know what
I feel about macarthy?
Speaker 4 (19:57):
Well, tell us, tell us share share with the class here. God, well,
I mean and say and remember this is a class.
This is a class whereas use the language you would
use in a classroom type thing.
Speaker 7 (20:15):
But I know, I know I wouldn't. I wouldn't go
hand with that.
Speaker 4 (20:19):
But you don't think you don't think McCarthy should come back.
Speaker 7 (20:23):
No, I'm ready for macarthury to go. I think the
slow starts, the weird goofy play calling. He does have
time play column period. I just I can't stand it
pretty much ridiculously play calling, and I just the slow
start is just is killing me because I feel like
if we got the Rico earlier, just Rico is actually
the best running back. I think we probably have still
(20:45):
had da standing up right now. But need to hear
there and we can't have that. I would first resolved
as this coaching thing. If he's gonna move forward with McCarthy, fine,
I'm a die hard, so we're gonna roll with it regardless.
But next HEAs needs to get it. He need to
get my agent, Jordan Louis agent and Oath agent, try
(21:07):
to go on, try to make some deals before we
even get to free agency. I need them things to
be done, wrapped up, and we're gonna try to move
forward and hopefully this time spend the money, which I
don't know we will bus we'll see.
Speaker 4 (21:20):
Well, you know you're gonna have to David. Thanks for
the for the call. I appreciate that. It's good to
hear from you, and I hope you call back again.
Speaker 7 (21:30):
Oh yeah, I got a story about sergeant too, because
I'm in Dallas right now. I'm like, okay, twenty minute
from the Star, So I'm uh, I got a story
to tale kind of air. But you know, when we
get the ark and we hang out with.
Speaker 4 (21:41):
You, all right, I look forward to that that that's
gonna be. That's gonna be a lot of fun. David,
appreciate thanks for the call, uh and and always keeping
it real. I know that you're one that that a
lot of people, you know, reference a lot kind of
like with with Rob you know when they say you
got to say things, it's like, you know, you you
hold the water, and that's that's really good. And then
(22:02):
that's the kind of fans that we need here in
the storyline. Glad that you were able to call him. Jordan, Lewis, Parsons,
OSA want to get those deals done. I don't disagree there.
I think it's and the good thing is SODA's Parsons,
you know, and Parsons can say that because he's not
going to be a free agent. OSA and Jordan, you know,
(22:22):
their agents don't really want to get the deal done
because they want to see what the team, what the
market really looks like. You know, the Cowboys wanted to
get Dorian Tomstrong done. Well, of course they did. They
didn't want to pay fifteen million a year. His agent's like,
let's see what the market looks like. It looked like
fifteen a year, which when you look at the contract
it's going to really be more like eleven the way
it kind of shakes out, still more than what the
(22:43):
Cowboys wanted to pay. So with Osa, good luck getting
that deal done first. I think he's played his way
to a contract probably out of the Cowboys price range.
I just mean good luck getting it done before free agency.
You know that they're gonna have to fight with other
teams probably when that happens. Let's go to break here
(23:04):
on Cowboys storyline. Be right back. We'll answer a lot
more calls.

Hey y'all, Matt Pittman of Meat Church. Here with football
season kicking off, I'm already gear enough to bring the
smoker back to AT and T Stadium for some epic tailgates.
But with that Texas heat, it's crucial to keep my
beer handcramp and cold. That's where Yetti's insulated colster Kankholer
comes in clutch this year. You can even get them
with the iconic star engraved on the side sensed Yetti

Speaker 11 (24:09):
We got big personalities, we got big hair, big bell buckles.
We got fans all across as big state and enemies
and every other one. We even got a big star
on the fifty yard line. Smirnov knows football is a
wee thing and experience that is best enjoyed together with
good drinks and good folks.
Speaker 6 (24:27):
Home were away.
Speaker 11 (24:28):
We rally together, we cry together, and we always rally
cry together. Because most of all, we got big love
for them boys. Smear enoff we do game days. Please
drink responsibly.
Speaker 4 (24:45):
To Cowboys storyline. All right, welcome back to Cowboys storyline.
You can call in here eight eight eight, eight five
five two two nine seven in our text to show
eight one seven two nine zero three two nine eight.
Haven't had a text line question in a while, Guys.
(25:06):
We always prefer the calls, but Chris loves to do
more things back there, and reading texts is certainly on
the list for sure. All right, he said, we had
a caller, Zach in Atlanta. Been waiting, so Zach, what's up?
Speaker 1 (25:21):
Man?
Speaker 12 (25:22):
Hey, Papa Elf, how are you?
Speaker 4 (25:24):
Let's say, bring me something funny? I don't know if
that's it. What do you got?
Speaker 12 (25:28):
Well, yeah, you know, I'm catching up on all my
Christmas movies.
Speaker 4 (25:32):
And uh, what'd you watch?
Speaker 13 (25:33):
Contribution?
Speaker 4 (25:34):
What'd you watch?
Speaker 14 (25:35):
Man?
Speaker 12 (25:36):
We watched Elf, we watched Jim Carius, How the Grinch
Stole Christmas? We watched one called Just Friends. It's a
Ryan Reynolds rom com Christmas movie. Really funny, man, That's
that's a sleeper hit.
Speaker 4 (25:49):
But yeah, I think is that one where he was
like really fat and then he comes back.
Speaker 13 (25:53):
Yes, yeah, yes, yeah, it's.
Speaker 4 (25:57):
That classic movie where the guy like leaves town for
ten to twelve years and he comes back and his
girlfriend is still there and then you know he has
changed and all that stuff and you know the yeah yeah.
Speaker 12 (26:08):
That yeah, it's like the inverted Hallmark movie, you know,
so that the girl coming back home, it's the guy,
the guy.
Speaker 1 (26:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (26:15):
It's a funny one man, a lot of laughs. My
wife and I love it. But yeah, Merry Christmas to y'all. Man,
hope it was a good one. Same, Just a just
a quick comment today. We we've got the Eagles coming up,
and so I'm gonna throw three names out there and
take one or take all of them. But I've got
(26:36):
Orlando Scandric, Mark Sanchez, and Jason Peters who played for
both squads, and so if you have any stories or
comments on them, that'd be great. And also we've got
a chance, you know, Washington eliminated US a few weeks ago,
actually Sunday, we've got a chance, you know, if if
some things play out with Atlanta and Tampa Bay, if
(26:59):
they're winning their games, you know, and they've both teams
have a lot to play for, so Washington's not you know,
it's uh, it's gonna be a shoe in to make
the playoffs. We can spoil next week if things play
out properly, so we can return the favor to Washington.
(27:20):
Got to handle business in Philly and uh, you know,
we'll see what happens. There's still a lot of fun
things in stores. So yeah, that's all I got, man,
Mark Sanchez, Orlando scant and I'm gonna I'm gonna hang up, man, take.
Speaker 1 (27:34):
Care, thank you.
Speaker 4 (27:35):
I'm in here thinking and trying to think about those
three guys from a from a story standpoint, you would
think I'd have a lot more on on Scandric.
Speaker 7 (27:45):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (27:46):
You know, actually it's funny you say that about Scandric
and and and the movie that everyone keeps talking about.
They called him the Orlando the Grinch because he was
you know, he was that way. Sometimes you never know
you were gonna get good mood to Orlando, bad mood Orlando,
And you know that's you could say that probably about anybody,
(28:09):
myself included, of course, but no, I just think that,
you know, he was he was one where you know,
you never knew what you were gonna get, and he
sometimes You'd love to sit there and ask a lot
of questions and uh, you know just what was going on.
He was big in basketball, loved to talk about the
NBA and stuff like that.
Speaker 1 (28:26):
But you know he was Orlando was was a good player.
Speaker 2 (28:29):
You know.
Speaker 4 (28:29):
He He's a lot like Jordan Lewis to me, like
like as far as how they played their size good
off the edge. You know, you can get sacks with him.
Playmaker would get some interceptions. Personality wise different, but but
I'm just saying that's that's kind of what I remember
about Scandrick. You know, Jason Peters, he's one of my
favorite players when he played at Arkansas. When he was
(28:51):
a tight end at Arkansas, I made some great plays.
Speaker 1 (28:53):
Uh there.
Speaker 4 (28:54):
He wasn't one of my favorite players when he was
with the Eagles and he was shutting down the Marcus
where not shutting down, but he was so certainly, uh,
he was certainly a load there.
Speaker 11 (29:02):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (29:02):
And then Sanchez, Now I don't have a ton of stories,
but I know that that he helped Bac a lot
his rookie year uh in twenty sixteen, really helped him
get to that level. All right, Chris, if we have
another call, let me know, because I don't have anything
on the screen.
Speaker 1 (29:18):
Do we have anyone?
Speaker 4 (29:19):
What we got? Jeremy and DC?
Speaker 1 (29:21):
Jeremy?
Speaker 4 (29:21):
What's up?
Speaker 9 (29:23):
Hey?
Speaker 7 (29:24):
Nick?
Speaker 1 (29:25):
How are you?
Speaker 14 (29:26):
You didn't hurt nobody today, didn't you?
Speaker 4 (29:28):
Uh no, No, No, it's christ over break?
Speaker 14 (29:34):
You staying out of trouble.
Speaker 4 (29:35):
Yeah, yeah, staying out of trouble for sure.
Speaker 2 (29:38):
You know.
Speaker 4 (29:39):
Just Christmas just exploded in our living room and uh,
you know it's just paper, and you know, you stay.
I mean I stepped on about about seven things, you know,
you stepping on legos and and little stuff here and
there and toys. But yeah, but it's all good. And
that's my favorite. That's my favorite mess of the of
the year, is when it's just presence everywhere and it's great.
Speaker 1 (30:01):
So I hope you had a good one.
Speaker 2 (30:03):
Man.
Speaker 14 (30:03):
My daughter is still the age where she just played
with the rotten papers.
Speaker 4 (30:06):
She don't oh really yeah, yeah, well not no, we're not.
We're not. We're a little bit past that one. Now
past that one.
Speaker 14 (30:16):
Yeah, man. So I was just calling in because a
couple of things. How much do you think they're as
far as salary cap concerned? Do you think we have
after we resigned or try to resign the twenty five
the thirty free agents we're going to have, and then
I wanted to know, uh brain fun, Sorry, I'm.
Speaker 4 (30:44):
All right, Well, let me answer that first real quick,
and maybe you think about it. You know they're not
going to sign all those twenty five free agents. Uh.
You know some of those guys were brought in later
in the season or just because of injuries and stuff
like that.
Speaker 1 (31:03):
So you know you're not you're not gonna get all
of them.
Speaker 4 (31:05):
You're gonna get I don't know, twelve to thirteen of
those players. You know how much money they're gonna have.
They'll have, they'll have money to do certain things. I
think that you know they'll they'll add. They'll add probably
seventeen players. Eighteen players. Now, how many are are gonna
(31:27):
be from you know, the current team? How many outside?
I would I would imagine like ten and seven if
I'm just guessing something something like that, ten of the
guys that are here, seven on other teams. It'll probably
even itself out though, so.
Speaker 14 (31:43):
And the other questions still ain't come back to me. Man,
Hopefully I can think about it and I'll just being
you a holler of them all. But My number for
today is thirty one. My original thirty one is George p.
You know a lot of people that I know that
are cowboys fans think that that was Royal Williams and
they don't know.
Speaker 6 (32:03):
That that.
Speaker 4 (32:05):
Yeah Roy Roy Williams. Oh yeah, no, go ahead. You
want a story from a thirty one?
Speaker 6 (32:13):
Yeah, from a thirty one?
Speaker 4 (32:15):
All right, well there's Brock.
Speaker 1 (32:18):
Thank you. You got Brock Marion, Benny Barnes.
Speaker 3 (32:22):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (32:23):
But Roy Williams, Uh, for sure. It's funny, right. Roy
Williams says that like in any given week, he'll get
a text message I mean yeah, he'll get tweets that
that say, you know, so glad that you knocked t
O off the Star. And then also he would get
him as like, you know, great win over Wake Forest
(32:44):
this weekend, or I can't believe y'all lost to Duke.
You know, he was thinking it was the Roy Williams
from North Carolina, the former coach at North Carolina. So yeah,
he got a lot of tweets and messages that weren't
really going for him. So those are my those are
my thirty ones. Roy Roy Williams, uh, you know, really
(33:06):
really enjoyed, you know, working on that documentary with him
that we did a few years ago. He welcome welcomed
us to his home and just said, hey, you do
the do the documentary your way, and uh, most people
don't say that, and he did, and he was fine
with it. And he's got a new book coming out
(33:26):
he wrote, and uh, he told me we were going
to talk about that at some point. He may even
maybe get Roy Williams on the show at some point
if he comes back into Dallas and bring his book,
and uh, that'll be interesting read. I wouldn't mind looking
at that for sure. All Right, Josh in Chicago's next, Josh,
what's up?
Speaker 13 (33:47):
How you doing?
Speaker 4 (33:48):
Are you not bad?
Speaker 6 (33:50):
Hey?
Speaker 13 (33:50):
I've heard to say the other day when I called
into four Christmas with awesome Christmas movie.
Speaker 1 (33:56):
Yeah, I watched it again. I watched it again.
Speaker 4 (33:58):
I I it's it's fascinating to me, like the just
just the way Vince Vaughn handles that, that's that's one
of his best in my opinion.
Speaker 13 (34:06):
Oh, for sure. I was really hoping when Zach and
Alana called and he was going to call you like
college boy or something like that, get a good movie
reference for you.
Speaker 3 (34:15):
No, but.
Speaker 1 (34:17):
What do you got man.
Speaker 3 (34:19):
Oh, not much.
Speaker 13 (34:19):
I was just going to say, you know, there's been
a lot of talk about re signing Osa and Jordan Lewis,
which I agree with, but I also think Eric Hendricks
is somebody who needs to be on that shortlist too.
Speaker 4 (34:28):
I have him written down right here as I wrote
him as my fourth guy down here, probably not in
that order, but I wrote him on that list as well.
Speaker 13 (34:36):
Yeah, I would love to see him brought back, especially
if the coaching and staff doesn't change. I think he
brought a lot to this defense and a lot of
veteran you know, knowledge and experience. The other thing for Philly.
I'm just I'm really looking at Brock Kaufman and Cooper
BB seeing what they can do against Carter and Davis.
You know, those are two big boys. So I want
to see some evaluation of those two guys. And that's
(34:56):
that's all I got for you today.
Speaker 4 (34:57):
Okay, thank you. You know, I remind me that we
had another caller earlier that that talked about awesome richards
In wanting to see him, wanting to see some from uh,
you know Hoffman of course, bbe. But I mean what
I would like to see more than anything is. I
(35:18):
want to see that Tyler Geydon, you know, have a
great week of practice, play and start the game. He's
been somewhat healthy now Idoga's played well, but but I
want I'd like to see Guyton take it, take it back,
be the starter, play well, you know, carry some momentum
(35:39):
into the sea that that would be huge. That's what
he needs.
Speaker 1 (35:42):
You know.
Speaker 4 (35:43):
This is that round of golf. You guys play golf.
Maybe if you play it, you know, like recreational type,
you know, not that great play every now and again.
Here we are in the round of golf where you've
had one of those days. Okay, you've hit the ball
all over the place, a couple of great shots here
and there, you hit it into someone's pool. You know,
(36:05):
you're all over the woods. It's that seventeenth hole where
you hit the greatest shot of your life and you're like, wow,
where has that been all day? Well, you know what,
I'm gonna play again, you know, and I'm give me
some better clubs.
Speaker 1 (36:20):
It's the clubs. It's whatever.
Speaker 4 (36:21):
I need some lessons, But it's that point in the
round where you're gonna have a really, really great shot
and that keeps you coming back again. That's what I
want to see out of Tyler Guidon. Let's have one
of those games here at Philly or Washington or both
where you're.
Speaker 1 (36:37):
Like, see this guy's got something. He's got something.
Speaker 4 (36:40):
Then he carries it into the to the offseason, the
weight room, all of that stuff, because that's what he needs.
He needs to have a really great offseason. Needs to
kind of change his body a little bit. All rookies
do that. Rookies going in their second year, you'll see
change with them physically. That's what needs to happen. So
I'm looking Austin Richards would be great, some of these
other guys, but I really want to see Tyler Guyton.
(37:01):
I want to see Tyler Goyton finish this season strong
to the point where he can build some momentum going
into the offseason. All right, Mike in Washington, the state
of Washington, Mike, what's up? He just dropped and he
just dropped a man? Is that a first time call?
Speaker 10 (37:18):
It was here?
Speaker 14 (37:18):
I'll give him one.
Speaker 1 (37:19):
I mean, here we go. Yeah, he really did. Like
he guys supposed to be. Literally, here we go.
Speaker 4 (37:26):
So the lines are open, you know what, Let's take
a break doing that let's take our last break here
on Cowboys storyline.
Speaker 1 (37:32):
We'll be right back after this.

Back to Cowboys story Run. Yep, all right, welcome back
here on Cowboys Storyline. Got about ten more minutes of
the show. I hope you guys had a great Christmas
(39:06):
for talking about everything, talking about the Eagles game, talking
about next year, priorities to re sign, talking about Christmas
movies here on my list. Tried to watch some over
the break. Like I said earlier the show, It's a
wonderful life. I tried, but also tried to do it
like on Christmas Eve, where you know, you're moving presents
(39:27):
around and all that, and didn't really get to sit
down and watch it. But you know, as my mom
told me, my mom told me this, it's there for
a reason that people keep saying it. Even though it's
an older movie, it's kind of you know, it's still
it still comes back on everyone's list, So there's a
reason for it. I got to make sure and watch that.
I'm not big on movies though that were older than me.
(39:51):
I mean, I haven't seen a lot ever seen The Godfather.
I've never seen a lot of movies like that, I know,
but anyways, all right, Chris, do we have a caller? Yeah?
You want blind? Let's go. Yeah, let's just say Merry Christmas.
See if I can see who this is? Oh okay,
and what's up? How are we doing?
Speaker 14 (40:10):
Hey?
Speaker 6 (40:10):
Nick? How are you?
Speaker 4 (40:11):
Oh? Man? Let's see who would this be? This would
be uh oh Rob in Vegas?
Speaker 6 (40:18):
How was your Christmas?
Speaker 1 (40:19):
It was great?
Speaker 4 (40:20):
Man? How was yours? Did you watch else?
Speaker 14 (40:23):
We did?
Speaker 6 (40:24):
We We celebrate Christmas Eve? It's just the kids are
you know already? Very easy? Everybody doesn't want to get
up anymore, you know, so they come over. We watched Elf,
we watched die Hard. You know it was on in
the background.
Speaker 4 (40:38):
Christmas movie? Where do you stand on that?
Speaker 6 (40:40):
That was on? I'm like you if it's really old, no,
if it's especially if it's a black and white.
Speaker 4 (40:47):
No, no, no Christmas movie a die Hard? Where do
you stand?
Speaker 6 (40:50):
Yes? Yes, yes, yeah, that's a Christmas movie. And it's
funny because now that I was watching it, I was
paying attention more to the Christmas Who was that?
Speaker 1 (41:01):
Who was that?
Speaker 4 (41:03):
Chris chime in there?
Speaker 1 (41:03):
Who wasn't that?
Speaker 4 (41:04):
Called and said here's why, And I was like, all right,
I'm with it?
Speaker 1 (41:08):
Was it was it.
Speaker 4 (41:09):
Josh Atlanta, I'm sorry, yeah, or Josh Chicago exact Atlanta.
I think one of them called in and said, you know,
and I'm pretty stubborn. I don't like to change my mind.
But I'm like, yeah, I'll give it to you.
Speaker 6 (41:24):
So he's the one that said his wife's they was Holly.
Speaker 1 (41:27):
Oh yeah, Yeah, that one was a stretch.
Speaker 4 (41:30):
But the fact that there's three songs on the soundtrack, yes,
three Christmas songs.
Speaker 1 (41:34):
Yeah, I'm with it.
Speaker 4 (41:35):
So it's a good It's a good movie regardless, though
they could have changed a couple of things here and
there and made it a Fourth of July movie. They
could have and it would have been fine, but they didn't.
It's a Christmas movie. I'm with you, all right, what
do you got wrong?
Speaker 6 (41:48):
And then obviously and then obviously yes, but they watched
some bad football games.
Speaker 4 (41:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (41:53):
I kind of forgot about those, honestly.
Speaker 4 (41:56):
Yeah, because they.
Speaker 6 (41:57):
Were all in the they were on regular TV.
Speaker 4 (41:59):
They were and if fantasy games. Because I forgot to
set my lineup on that and be real mad.
Speaker 1 (42:06):
I'm not used to doing it on Wednesday or Tuesday night.
Oh well, I.
Speaker 6 (42:12):
Watched the interview of Mike Zimmer did. I think the
day after the game, and I didn't realize he's the
second highest paid defensive coordinator in the league. He makes
four million dollars a year. And he was talking and
and somebody asked him about coming back next year, and
(42:32):
he was kind of like, you know, sixty eight years old,
you know. So I'm just wondering if they had tied
together in Jerry's eyes, because if you said which coach
did a better job with what he had, I would
say Zimmer did because I think they took so many
injuries and then obviously Dak went out. But I I
(42:55):
wonder if that's going to be an interesting thing if
Zimmer announces after the season that I'm done, if that
really affects him his decision on Mike McCarthy. We've talked
about this. I think he's going to bring him back.
I don't want him back. I would I want a
new voice, but I think he is. But if he
(43:16):
is fifty to fifty, that may change the whole conversation
if Zimmer doesn't come back. But he also did say
I don't think I'll get another head coaching job because
I'm sixty eight. So yeah, could you see a scenario
where if Jerry says, you know, I don't want to
lose Zimmer, make Zimmer the head coach, and then all
you got to do is bring in an OC. How
(43:39):
would you feel about that?
Speaker 1 (43:43):
Interesting?
Speaker 4 (43:45):
I don't I've never actually thought about that. And Rob,
thanks for the call. You have anything else, Rob, We're
gonna move.
Speaker 6 (43:54):
And Julia Holidays, I'll talk to you.
Speaker 4 (43:55):
Ax, you too, Thanks for the call. And that's a
that's an interesting scenario. I mean, that's that's not that
far fetched. You know, it would be unfortunate for Mike.
I mean, but that's that's the way that the business
works sometimes, you know, it'd be unfortunate to say, all right,
because it's got to remember, I mean, there were a
lot of people that wanted Zimmer out of here early on,
(44:19):
and so think about that. Like Zimmer, he got his
share of criticism as well. Now they're playing better. Did
anything change? Did anything change over the last part of
the season that now he's playing better. Let's see, Well,
Michaeh came back, Michael came back, and now all of
a sudden, the defense looks really good now. So if
(44:40):
we're giving him a pass because of the injuries, then
would and McCarthy get a pass for the injuries too,
I mean, because he's had a lot on all sides
of the bault as well. So all I'm saying is
is that if we're going to play that game of like, well,
you know.
Speaker 1 (44:53):
Yeah, but the injury is there.
Speaker 4 (44:55):
Now, look how they're playing well, you can make the
case for Mike as well that it is an interesting
scenario that would keep Zimmer here. That would also you know,
you'd have to get it all. You're pretty much starting over.
And see that's the thing. I don't think the Cowboys
want to do that with Dak. They don't really want
(45:17):
to have to change things up with him. They're already
paying him the money. Let's make it as easy as
possible for him to be a great quarterback. And I
think that's kind of what will play a factor into this.
Is Dak friendly. You know, we haven't said that in
a while, or at least I haven't, but that's kind
of what that is. I'm having some issues here, Chris.
(45:37):
If there's any other caller, you can bring them on.
If not, we can Mike in Washington State, Mike, what's up?
Speaker 3 (45:46):
I am that I'm telling you? I'm calling it as
a blizzard outside and we've had to put a snow
on the ground right now, just Stanner to get his
and the first time following.
Speaker 4 (46:01):
We go, we go go. I don't know I'd be
a second time caller because I think you called it
and it hung up because of the because of the snowy,
the blizzard.
Speaker 3 (46:11):
Yeah, it's crazy out there right now. I mean it's
it's cool anyway. Saying Nick, I wanted to I had
a question about what do you think about this Douce
spawn thing? Is he can to be on our Rogers
roster next year? And you know, I hate to say it,
I'm an Oklahoma Sooner fan and that when he played
(46:32):
for Kansas State he just tourist part. I mean, I
hate him when we played that guy because we can
never catch the guy. Yeah, it seems like now we
got him and we can't even get him on the field.
I mean, do you think this guy's coming back and
we didn't keep him. I know he's still on this
what is his third year? Fourth year?
Speaker 4 (46:48):
Is his second year? You're talking about second year? Yeah, yeah,
he's played. Yeah, this is his second season with the team. Yeah,
you know, I I you can make that case with
a lot of college players. I think the NFL, bigger, stronger,
faster arm tackles can bring him down. He to me,
(47:11):
he's overmatched here. That's what I've seen. And I know
that we haven't seen a ton of plays with him.
But when he's had his moments, they've been in the preseason,
probably against a lot of players that aren't in the NFL.
You know, you can argue that he hasn't had a
lot of opportunities. You could also argue back, there's a
(47:31):
reason why. I just I don't see it. If I'm wrong,
I'm wrong. I just don't. I don't see him being
a big factor. I don't know if he's got a role,
you know, I just don't. He's certainly not big and strong,
and I don't think his speed and quickness is to
the point where he can make up for that enough.
I hope I'm wrong. Love watching him play when when
(47:53):
he was at Kansas State. I love his attitude now.
His dad does a great job. It's a great, great story.
Speaker 1 (47:59):
I just don't don't know.
Speaker 4 (48:00):
I think we would have seen it by now if
he really had something. Again, if I'm wrong, I'll be
the first admitute.
Speaker 3 (48:09):
Yeah, I got to say I hated him in college,
but I love him there. I've watched him play in
the preseason. He's moved like him has a good job.
He doesn't. It doesn't take a lot of room for
him to get to break away. But he seems like
when he gets the ball there's four people on him. Yeah,
you know, so I don't know if that's offensive line
and whatnot. Anyway, my second, my second question for you,
and you all kind of get off the air and
(48:29):
you can answer this, but the last game that we
watched that I watched was the Monday night game, and
Michael Parsons is going that I noticed the most of
all that he was so gassed that he didn't even rush.
He has stood when the ball was hyped, he stood
there and you may have seen that too. Do you
think with all the injuries that conditioning is an issue
(48:50):
in Dallas because I've never seen on other teams. Obviously
people you're standing there.
Speaker 7 (48:54):
You know.
Speaker 3 (48:55):
I love Michael to death, so it's not enough on him.
I mean, he was he was gast Yeah, don't the
conditioning is an issue for the Cowboys that we have
all these injuries and that's sometimes due to conditioning. And
when you see a superstar like Micah, you know, on
a light ball, just stand there because he's so wiped
out that he can't even rush. Are you talking about issue?
Speaker 4 (49:15):
Are you talking about the Bengals game? The Bengals game
for him night? You know?
Speaker 3 (49:22):
Actually nothing money and I'm sorry, not money that I gave.
It was the one after that, uh.
Speaker 4 (49:28):
You know with the okay, the last game, the car
or Carolina. Yeah, all right, well, oh no, you're talking
about Tampa. You're talking about the Tampa game.
Speaker 3 (49:38):
Okay, the Tampa game, the Tampa game, then the four Corter.
I mean he's getting towards Vandeman. You might saw that
he just stood at the ming you didn't try to
rush because he was just like out.
Speaker 1 (49:49):
Yeah yeah, uh you know.
Speaker 4 (49:51):
He he admitted that the the the conditioning, you know,
after the injury was tough.
Speaker 1 (49:56):
Got you know, when you.
Speaker 4 (49:58):
You get hurt and you're out for five weeks really
six weeks with an ankle injury, you can't do as much,
you know, so it's almost like having two training camps,
like two seasons start stop, and he's had to kind
of get his body back right for that he plays
a position that that most people have a healthier rotation
there they don't, you know, did Marcus war was the
(50:20):
same thing. They had great conditioning, but it was it
was when do you take this guy out? When do
you go from DeMarcus Ware to Victor Butler? Sorry, that's
the only name I could think of, or you know,
in this case, when do you go from from Micah?
And then you know, you you move him out and
you have another rusher or Kneeland or or whatever. It's
just different. So you keep him in as much as
(50:42):
you can. And he plays so hard it's double to
you're getting hit by two guys every single time, the
chips all that, and I think I think he's been
phenomenal in his return. I don't question his conditioning. I
don't really question conditioning of the team that much.
Speaker 1 (51:00):
I don't.
Speaker 4 (51:01):
I don't know if this if you know, these injuries,
are these injuries conditioning?
Speaker 1 (51:06):
You know?
Speaker 4 (51:06):
Is it that's hamstring falls off the bone because of
the condition.
Speaker 1 (51:11):
I don't know. I don't. I don't think so.
Speaker 4 (51:13):
And I know that there's a lot of case to it,
like if it was just all hamstrings and you know,
and soft tissue issues for every.
Speaker 1 (51:20):
One of them, and you know, you can make that argument.
I don't.
Speaker 4 (51:22):
I don't know if that's the case though. I think
it's been a bad luck year all the way around.
Key players, Pro Bowl type guys that have been banged
up and banged up and had multiple players at the
same position, which really hurts your depth. So that's the
injury part of it.
Speaker 1 (51:40):
Again.
Speaker 4 (51:40):
They're not seven and eight just because of injuries. They're
seven and eight because they had because they weren't good enough,
and some of those games early in the season they
they they didn't.
Speaker 1 (51:50):
They didn't.
Speaker 4 (51:51):
The defense wasn't jelling, the offense wasn't. Then then when
they kind of one team, one side got better than
the other one had big injuries. It just never did
mesh this year. But they're playing well right now. They're
playing spoiler see if they can spoil things for the
Eagles and maybe Washington and maybe some other teams as well.
All Right, we'll be back tomorrow here on Cowboys Storyline
(52:13):

the Eagles game for Chrispy My Nick Eatman see tomorrow
