Speaker 1 (00:01):
The following He is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot
Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Cowboys.

Speaker 3 (00:11):
This is Cowboys Storyline with Nick Eatman.

Speaker 4 (00:20):
Hey everyone, welcome to another edition of Cowboys Storyline. It
is Friday, January third, and it is the final show
of the week, the final show of the regular season,
and the final show of Daily.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Shows Daily Podcast.

Speaker 4 (00:37):
Here is We're gonna switch automatically next week into a
weekly format. I know you guys hate that, but that's
what we're doing at Our shows will be on Wednesday
at nine thirty. I'm going to go a little bit
earlier than ten just so I can go longer. Next week, though, we'll.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
Talk about that.

Speaker 4 (00:58):
We are going to have a couple of shows next month,
Monday and then following Monday, I'll get a little bit
more details on that. We had to do a couple
of different type shows, but still the chance to kind
of call in and talk about some things, all right,
Eight aight A eight, five, five two two nine seven.
Let's let's talk Cowboys Commanders one more time. Cowboys gotta

(01:20):
get on the field and try to wrap this thing
up the right way. See if they can get to
eight to nine and sweep Washington. I think the Commanders
will be playing they they they need to win.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
They need to get out.

Speaker 4 (01:31):
Of that seventh spot and get to the sixth seed
or stay in the sixth seed. I guess if that's
where they are, that's that's an important position for them
in the playoffs. So I would imagine they're gonna give
their their best to try to win the game. And
dan Quinn doesn't want to come back here and get
swept by the Cowboys. But you know, see what the
Cowboys can do to try to beat Washington for a

(01:53):
second time this year. All right, we'll go to the
phone lines. Carolina. He's still driving all over the place.
He's in Arlington right now, Arlington, Texas, Carolina.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
What's up there? We go?

Speaker 5 (02:05):
That's left week.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
That's right, man, that's right. Appreciate it.

Speaker 5 (02:09):
Hey, I forgot about my.

Speaker 4 (02:12):
Don't cause don't cause any wrecks over there by the
stadium or anything. We're are you just passing through? You're
going to stop and go to the game.

Speaker 5 (02:19):
I'm passing through, my man, all right?

Speaker 2 (02:22):
All right?

Speaker 5 (02:23):
Well to make that money, man, you know how that goes?

Speaker 4 (02:25):
Yep, I hear you, I hear you. All right, Well,
what you got, man, what's on your mind?

Speaker 5 (02:30):
Well, we're all going to start off with.

Speaker 6 (02:32):
Man.

Speaker 5 (02:32):
I just I hope that the Cowboys can give us
a sweep that will make the end of the season.
That would just you know, fish it off just right,
especially after that blowout, And I wanted to agree with
the other callers, like, I just want to see some
some new guys in there, especially because you know what
he got rid of Zeque or he left. How we
want to see it. I would love to see if

(02:53):
they give Deuce Bawn the ball, Like, I just I
want to see him get out there and get it
least at least touch I mean ten, ten touches, you
know what I mean.

Speaker 7 (03:06):
They need to let him get.

Speaker 5 (03:07):
Into a rhythm. Yeah. Outside of that, man.

Speaker 4 (03:11):
Yeah, but that's a lot of that's on him, you
know what I mean. I mean, because you you you
get the ball and you get one yard, and then
you get two yards. Then on third and seven they
throw it incomplete passive. You're not in a rhythm, and
but you didn't really.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
You know what I mean.

Speaker 4 (03:25):
Like, he's gonna have to be productive. Running backs have
to be productive to keep being productive. I mean, that's
that's kind of how how it goes, and so you.

Speaker 5 (03:33):
Know it's as taken down.

Speaker 4 (03:37):
Make players miss, you know you're gonna get an opportunity
to do that. He's he's performed well in the preseason,
in the second half of preseason games when those guys
probably did not make the NFL roster. He hasn't had
you know, he hasn't really made a lot of consistent
plays when he's had opportunities. But you can say, not
in the right spot, not in the right type of plays,

(03:58):
get creative with him, whatever you want to say it.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
I'm for it. I think I kind of know what
we have out of him.

Speaker 4 (04:05):
But you know what, if you guys still want to
see it, I'm for it. You know, let's let's see,
let's prove me wrong. But this would be a good
opportunity I think for him to do.

Speaker 5 (04:15):
That, A hundred percent agree on it. Just use him
the right way. If they could use them the right way,
I can see him being prodestic because you know, cowboys
are known for having guys and not knowing what to
do with Dan Boom. He goes somewhere and says, oh,
he's a star. He'd been a star it's just about
how you're gonna use him in the creativity. And also

(04:37):
I just want to give my score for the day.
I'm really not one hundred percent sure how this game
is going to go, but I'm rooting for my Cowboys always.
I'm gonna do a Nate Newton and I'm gonna go
twenty to.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
Nineteen, twenty to nineteen, all right, twenty nineteen?

Speaker 4 (04:53):
All right, Well, safe travels on the road there, Carolina.
As you head, I guess head back that way, head
back towards the East coast.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
Appreciate the call and wait to start us off the
right way.

Speaker 5 (05:06):
I had to make sure I had to make sure
I got I got that call in for the last
weekly show. I had to make sure I got in there.

Speaker 8 (05:12):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
Definitely. All right, Well, I appreciate that. Is Happy New
Year to you.

Speaker 4 (05:16):
There's probably others with that same mindset, so let's keep
this thing going. Champ in Nebraska is next up, Champ.

Speaker 6 (05:23):
What's good morning?

Speaker 2 (05:25):
How are you?

Speaker 6 (05:27):
I'm good?

Speaker 8 (05:27):
But how's the coother going?

Speaker 2 (05:29):
Good? Good? What we got?

Speaker 6 (05:32):
Well, I don't have a whole lot of football stuff,
but I just wanted to call in, get in this
last regular season show, and thank you, thank Chris, thank Derek,
thank all you guys on these podcasts, especially this one.
Take chance, but you guys give us the stands to
get on here. Be annoying, be upsetting, be happy, ramp

(05:55):
rave and deal with it. Correct us, teach us. It
means a lot to us, those guys, all of us
that listen regularly daily, and you know, meeting some of
the people you have over the air is awesome. The
Storyliners community is really cool. I haven't been able to

(06:16):
get on there. Wednesdays don't work quite as well for
me as Sursday as yet, but man, hearing all these
people and their knowledge, I never would have known had
you guys not put this show out there. So I
just wanted to thank you guys for that.

Speaker 9 (06:30):
I want to say.

Speaker 6 (06:31):
It sucks that we're finishing this season this week, which
was going a little further, but that's okay. I'm gonna
load up on my hopium and I hope that my
Cowboys reload and we come back next year however, new coach,
same coach, new players, some old players, and we make
that run that we all want. I'm gonna give you

(06:51):
a prediction. I don't know how, but I can't tick
against my guys. I'm thinking Cowboys pull this one out
twenty two one somehow. Thank you, guys, Thank you. We'll
talk to you in the off season. God bless y'all.

Speaker 4 (07:05):
Thanks Champ, appreciate that. And that's really nice, nice thing
that you said. And and and you know, it's it's
been great. I love having U the opportunity to talk
to you guys, and and and given the opportunity back
for you guys to kind of, like you said, rant
rave whatever it is. That's what I like about what

(07:25):
Rob from Vegas says. You know, sometimes it's like the
same thing he tells his kids. You know, he's not
yelling at you, just yelling and and and that's what
this team has driven us to do this year. It's just,
you know, it's it's been it's been a year. It
just man, when you when you stop and think of
all the things that have happened this year, just how

(07:47):
unique it is. And and it's it's unfortunate that it's
the record is what it is that you'd like to
look back at twenty twenty four for the better, for
better reasons, you know, But when you think of all
that was the year we're going to be ten years down.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
The road going. That was the year that.

Speaker 4 (08:05):
Whatever Trayvon Diggs came out of the locker room started
yelling out of reporters or got not really yelling because
Trayvon doesn't yell, but you know, just had a confrontation there.
Or the year that something fell from the stadium down
and luckily didn't hit anybody in I mean.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
Or the sun.

Speaker 4 (08:23):
Well, it won't be the year about the sun because
that's kind to be an every year thing probably, But still,
it's been a year. It's been a fun journey though
with you guys. We're not done. We're still we got
a lot to go here. Let's go with Brian in
Kansas City. Brian, what's up man?

Speaker 8 (08:38):
Good morning, sir.

Speaker 2 (08:39):
Good morning.

Speaker 4 (08:40):
How are you Do you have a one point prediction?
Because that's what seems to be the.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
Theme so far.

Speaker 8 (08:46):
Oh man, you know the hard part is you gotta
I gotta know who's playing. Yeah, you know they're not
they're not playing anything. You know what you said about
you think Lance might be the guy.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
Yeah, I could tell you who's not playing.

Speaker 8 (09:01):
Who's that?

Speaker 4 (09:02):
Well, you got Dak, you got Zach, you got Tank,
you got tray Von Diggs, you got over shown, you
got cd uh, I don't know.

Speaker 8 (09:11):
Sorry, Oh, that's gonna be the thing. The thing you
just said about this, this is what we're gonna talk
about in five years about this was the year. That's
gonna be the thing right there, I tell.

Speaker 4 (09:21):
You, the Cowboys are going to announce the winner of
an ed Block Courage Award. It goes to players that
have returned this year from injuries last year and and uh,
and there is a winner. It'll be announced later. But
next year, boy, that's that's gonna be a battle right there.
All the players that have been hurt this year have

(09:41):
a chance to come back and win that award. It's
not funny, actually, but I mean that's that's the reality
of it is that there's gonna be a lot of
candidates for it for next year.

Speaker 2 (09:51):
But it's been been a year. All right, all right, Brian,
what do you got?

Speaker 8 (09:54):
Well, you know, I was thinking the you know, with
with what we just said, you know, all the injury.
First of all, let me stop for a second and
just echo what I'm sure everybody else is going to say,
and I've already heard on this call. We just want
to thank you for what you do for us being
here every day, you and Chris.

Speaker 10 (10:12):
You know, the Monday night games, when you're there at
you know, wiping the sleep out of your eyes and
propping your chin up on a gallon of coffee, you know,
trying to get.

Speaker 8 (10:21):
Through the day and listen to people holler at you
and and you know all that sort of thing. So
we do. We just want to say thank you, thank you.
That is just so important to us and to me personally.
I've just really are appreciated what you guys do for us.

Speaker 4 (10:37):
Thank thank you, Brian and Brian. Brian actually sent me
a Christmas card here to the office.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
Thank you for that.

Speaker 4 (10:42):
I appreciate that. We love gifts. We love we love
gifts for sure.

Speaker 8 (10:46):
Absolutely well. You know, in order to get on the show,
I had to stuff Chris's card full of what of burgers?
You know, I had to just shove all those all
those coupons and gift cards in there. So that's you know,
Chris said, you know, I'm good to go now for
next year. I think, right, Chris, you know listening.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
To us, Yeah, I'm listening, Yes, you're you're good to go.

Speaker 8 (11:09):
So I'm just kidding.

Speaker 7 (11:11):
I'm just kidding.

Speaker 8 (11:11):
I didn't try to bribe Chris, just so everybody knows, uh,
you know, for for this game. I think this is
just you know, what we've been saying for the last
couple of weeks. Who can we see? You know, I'm
hoping Tyler Geiton goes out there. I'm really just you know,
I don't want to see any more Tuma Doga.

Speaker 2 (11:30):
No, I get it.

Speaker 4 (11:31):
And he's and Adoga is a better player, which is
which is not what we expected. But that's not the point.
It's a he is the definition right now. And this
is nothing bad about Adoga, but he is the definition
of a progress stopper. He's stopping progress for guys that
you really want to see down the road, guys like Geyton.
But but they did it because he's a better player.

(11:53):
He's a better option, you know. So I mean that's
I mean, Dak was a progress stopper to the Trey
Lan why because he was better?

Speaker 2 (12:01):
I mean that, you know what I mean.

Speaker 4 (12:02):
No one says it like that, but in this case,
you want getting to be out there. You want awesome
Richards to show what he can do. I'd rather see
awesome Richards get a little, you know, get some snaps,
because this is.

Speaker 2 (12:14):
A game where a guy like Mingo.

Speaker 4 (12:18):
Can catch three passes for fifty one yards, and then
you can get into the next season and go, hey,
you know there's something there or awesome. Richards had a
great game, shut people down, DU's fun had had four
catches for thirty two yards.

Speaker 2 (12:31):
You know what I mean. It'd be that type of game.

Speaker 4 (12:33):
So you know, this is not a meaningless game individually
for a lot of players.

Speaker 8 (12:39):
No, I agree, And that's the other one that I
was thinking was Mingo. I really want to see something too.

Speaker 4 (12:45):
Me too, because I was for the trade. All right, Brady,
you got anything else?

Speaker 8 (12:50):
No, sir, that's it. Thank you, Thank you for everything,
and we'll talk to you. Who gets Wednesdays now you.

Speaker 4 (12:54):
Said Wednesday Wednesday morning. I think we're going at nine
thirty in the morning, so that we could go to
about ten forty five, so we can go about our
fifteen minutes.

Speaker 11 (13:03):
Rodge to that man.

Speaker 8 (13:04):
Hey, we'll talk to you then, Thank you.

Speaker 2 (13:06):
Sir, Thank you.

Speaker 4 (13:08):
All right, and I'm gonna get some details before we
end this show, and after one of the breaks, I'll
get some details on what we're doing on Monday. We
have a show on Monday in the afternoon. So for
the next couple of weeks, because we do a TV show,
we'll do one on Monday for the next two weeks.
Our regular time is Wednesday. We are doing Wednesday shows
as well. All right, let's and I'll say this one

(13:29):
thing from Brian. When you talk about the early mornings,
late night games, coming back all that, you know, I
speak for myself only on this, but win or lose,
great win at Pittsburgh coming back doing the show, or
tough loss to the Bengals and what happened there. Either way,
it's always it's always great to get this opportunity to

(13:52):
talk to you guys and hear what real fans have
to say. What are they thinking, what are they feeling,
what are they you know, mad about? Because I've been there,
I am a fan for sports like that. I've been
a fan like this. I know I know exactly what
you're thinking and feeling. So to be able to connect
like that is awesome.

Speaker 6 (14:12):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (14:12):
And it's it's not hard to go into work, even
if with on two hours sleep, not to be able
to come in and do shows like this. So it's
it's not really working. You know it's not not at all.
Let's go to Ali in Florida.

Speaker 2 (14:27):
Good morning, sir, Good morning.

Speaker 4 (14:29):
Speaking of people that send gifts, Ali, thank you so
much again for the awesome portraits that you sent. Appreciate that,
and uh, what do you got for us?

Speaker 12 (14:40):
Okay, I got it. First of all, I appreciate you
and Chris. I have a shout out, and I have
a breaking news Ali's breaking news my news segment, and
then I hang up by listen all right, number one,
I totally agree with doctor Sunshine that you have the

(15:00):
most respectable fans that they choose their respect you and
Chris for all the hard work you do. And I
personally think you are the most important podcast because everybody
stop start copying you all the podcasts on Cowboys, they
just start trying taking a phone call. So so you

(15:23):
said that trend, you know, so they take they take
ten Ah.

Speaker 2 (15:31):
I think one one show one time did get like
eleven calls in.

Speaker 12 (15:35):
No, I'm telling you you you are the king. You
and a Chris are king of the podcast. And if
Message Jones ever get a chance to listen, he knows
he gets a direct insight to his fan base. Yeah,
the die hard coboy. So this is my breaking news.
I'm willing to bet with you for dinner for two,

(15:57):
either you you, Chris, or anybody you guys want to go.
I would rather you pick up your favorite restaurant in Dallas.
I pick up the gift gift cards so you can't
go eat together. So this is my breaking news. I
think coach McCarthy is coming back. I can. I don't

(16:18):
have no inside knowledge, but I think that already already
in the place since Tampa game. After Tampa, the Tampa
Bay game, Uh, the mister Jones contact them and that
because he's gonna deal with little McKay. But I think
Zimmer is going to be gone, and Al Harris is

(16:42):
gonna be a defensive coordinator. And Al Harris is a
Mike McCarty's guy. So and I hate to lose. I
would love to keep John Fossil. I learned so much
from Rob and I think personally I appreciate Rob. I
appreciate Randy. By the way, I don't know where Randy is.

(17:03):
He's gonna do an AVD just make sure he's okay.
And I did not all the storyliners.

Speaker 7 (17:10):
But this is my question.

Speaker 13 (17:12):
If Bill McKay to move on.

Speaker 12 (17:16):
I was had an understanding he's the staff goes with him,
but they were on the taboy's payroll while they were scouting,
so he would have an access and inside information what
taboys they're gonna pick, and he's gonna take it to
the next team or hang over on this.

Speaker 4 (17:34):
Love you brother, All right, thank you Talking about Will McClay.
It took me a second to figure out what you
were saying, Will McClay, if he goes to another team.
My understanding is that you know, he's he's trying to
see what the situation is. I don't think that's the
first domino. I think the first one is McCarthy. But

(18:00):
I think that, you know, just trying to see what
what what everything looks like here. But if if he goes,
if Will McClay would go to another team, I don't
know if I would worry about about that, about knowing
what the Cowboys strategy would be and all that, because
somebody else would be running the scouting department and and yeah,

(18:23):
he'd understand what Jerry and Steven like and want and
all that. But I mean I'm not too worried about that.
I mean, I mean he's not going to know every pick.
He's not going to He might know the strategy, but
it doesn't mean he's going to know the player or
know the pick and all that stuff, because he's going
to take some people with him. So again, thanks again,
a leave for the call, thank you for all the

(18:44):
other nice things that you said. Let's keep it going here,
Let's go to Robbie Kocoba, Florida.

Speaker 8 (18:52):
Good.

Speaker 2 (18:53):
How's it going.

Speaker 8 (18:54):
It's great, man.

Speaker 1 (18:55):
It was great to see your kids on and it
was great. Let my kids talk you guys.

Speaker 2 (18:59):
Oh yeah, yeah you have.

Speaker 8 (19:01):
You're very fortunate man.

Speaker 1 (19:03):
Your kids are very beautiful.

Speaker 8 (19:04):
Your beamers.

Speaker 1 (19:05):
I'm not taking anything away from him. You got great kids, man.

Speaker 4 (19:08):
Thank you, thank you. They love being on the show too.
They really love the microphone and the and the lights.
They want they want to have their own kids podcast
as well. So I don't know what kind of ratings
that would that would get, but yeah, they would, they
would definitely, they would love it for sure.

Speaker 14 (19:26):
Oh they were.

Speaker 1 (19:27):
They were outstanding. Hey I will echo, but Allie and
Randy and Irene and everybody else always says how great
you guys are. I'll just leave it there. But all
the things today, said I I echo, thankfulheartedly. I'll ask
for two stories you got time from One about Dan Campbell.

Speaker 8 (19:47):
You were there when he was.

Speaker 1 (19:48):
There sight end for us for a long time, well
a couple of years.

Speaker 2 (19:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (19:52):
And then a story you pitching the idea for storylines
to Derek.

Speaker 2 (19:58):
Yeah, all right, you know, mind telling us that?

Speaker 9 (20:01):
All right?

Speaker 4 (20:01):
Well, uh, Dan camp thank you, Robbie, appreciate it. Thanks
for the call. And I know I know we'll be
hearing from you when we when we go to weekly shows.
I'm sure you'll be there, uh calling as well. I'll
tell a couple of stories before we go to break.
Let's see Dan Campbell, have you heard the story? This
is a good one, guys, Dan Campbell. The Cowboys were

(20:23):
playing a game, close game, I mean back and forth,
back and forth, comes down to the end and and
Dan Campbell's coaching on the other team and he has
a chance to tie the game, but he says, no, no,
we're gonna go for two. We're gonna go for this
crazy play. We're gonna trick them. We're gonna tell him, oh, look,
this guy's eligible, but this guy's over here, and he's
gonna oh yeah, hide and seek over here, and then

(20:44):
they're gonna play. They're gonna score it, and then it's
not gonna count, and now they're gonna kick the extra point.
But wait, he's gonna decide Nah, nah, screw that, I'm
gonna go for it again.

Speaker 2 (20:53):
And he throws it again and it's a touchdown, but no,
there's a penalty. Now we're gonna do.

Speaker 4 (20:57):
It again, and he's a lost. But who's got who's
laughing now? I mean, like their team's really good. But
that's the only Dan Campbell's story I really have. Just
this is the time he decided I hate the kicker.
I don't want to kick this. I want to go win,
and he lost. I think Dan Campbell is a is
a great coach. I think I really think what he's
doing there in Detroit is outstanding. I'll say this, though,

(21:22):
that mentality comes back to bite you playing to win,
playing to win, playing to win. Sometimes if you play
not to lose, you you also win. So it's it's
it's bitten him at times. But who could argue with
what they're doing right now and just that that team is,
you know, buying in, they're playing like him. He wasn't

(21:42):
here long enough to have a big story. I know,
he's a trivia question. Who's the only tight end to
start over Jason Witten? It would be Dan Campbell. So
I don't have a lot of stories there. And then
than the one about Derek, I mean, I don't remember
exactly how it went down. I think it was something
i'd kind of talked to him, you know, Derek and
I sit next to each other on you at the

(22:03):
games and stuff like that. I think it was one
of those floated ideas and then let's talk about it,
and let's talk about all of the podcasts, and here's
an idea that I've you know, I've had and you know,
just just kind of it's been in the works for
a while.

Speaker 2 (22:16):
And so really when.

Speaker 4 (22:17):
It got down to it, like, hey, this is this
is what we're thinking, this is how it would go,
this is the type of show it's it's going to be,
and you know, and then jumping in and talking to
Chris about it, and then it just took off. And
but I've said it before, I say it a hundred times.
It's y'all show. You guys keep thinking us and I
appreciate that, but it's it's y'all.

into the off season plans.

Speaker 2 (24:51):
Woo.

Speaker 4 (24:51):
We will talk about Monday show. I'm supposed to talk
to Chris about it. I did not even ask him
about that. All right, let's get going on the phone
lines here, Tyrone and Pennsylvania.

Speaker 13 (25:02):
Are you know a buss?

Speaker 2 (25:03):
How are you doing?

Speaker 12 (25:05):
Uh?

Speaker 13 (25:05):
You know, uh, let a carry or so at work
right now? Took a little great give you a call.

Speaker 2 (25:10):
All right, appreciate that.

Speaker 13 (25:13):
So I got a little easy question here. So yeah,
I mentioned earlier about Giton and sim Richards. So how
would you feel about, you know, since we're kind of
evaluating instead of Guiton playing left tackle, why don't we
push him out to right tackle and try a Sim

(25:35):
Richards at left tackle? Because I feel like when a
Sim Richards has been and he's been better than Guyon
at left tackle, maybe that's more of a natural position
for him. Brontus has said that he seems to be
a better tackle than a guard. I know he's got
flexibility there, but I would like to see that just
because this is a week tackled, week tackle draft, So

(25:57):
getting a tackle to replace Guyton like that would probably
be like one, two or three as far as left
tackles go in this class alone, So if he was
to come out, so you're not getting one better than
him outside of the top five. So why don't we
try some Richards at left tackle guiding it right tackle,
and then you figure out a doga and steal in

(26:20):
the off seasons.

Speaker 2 (26:21):
Yeah, all right, that's a that's a good thought. Do
you have anything else?

Speaker 13 (26:26):
Nope, that's everything.

Speaker 6 (26:26):
Man.

Speaker 13 (26:27):
Just again, thank you all for you know, everything you did.
Hope you had a wonderful holiday season. And unfortunately, you know,
we got to go to the off season schedule a
little sooner than we all wanted.

Speaker 4 (26:38):
Yeah, yeah, I know, I was hoping for a few
more weeks, several more weeks at that. But all right, definitely, Tyrone,
thanks for the call. Thank you, and and a great
thought in theory. Here's the problem I think with doing
that right now, Guidon, there's just too much. It seems

(26:59):
like there's just too much going on. You say this
a lot about rookies, you don't usually say it the
other way.

Speaker 2 (27:05):
But when a rookie.

Speaker 4 (27:06):
Comes in and has you know, Tyler, Tyler Smith did
this is you say it's not too big for him.
This isn't too big for him. Maybe this year, this
first season, has been too big for Tyler Goydon.

Speaker 2 (27:18):
It just seems that way.

Speaker 4 (27:19):
He hasn't been able for one reason or another, hasn't
been able to overcome some of the injuries, just some
of the the the aspects of learning the position, learning
the game, just learning how to be an NFL player.

Speaker 2 (27:31):
And so now just moving him over to the right.

Speaker 4 (27:33):
Tackle that that that seems like something that Larry Allen could, yeah,
do that, and and and Zach Martin they do that
Tyron Smith. But Tyler Smith of course moving back and forth.
But for Tyler Guyden, it's been a struggle. I can't
imagine just saying all right, last game, go over here,
get the feet backwards. Now, everything that you've learned this,

(27:56):
you know, put your hand this way, your feet the
other way.

Speaker 2 (27:59):
I don't know. I just don't.

Speaker 4 (28:01):
I think it's probably too much overwhelming. So as easy
as you think that is, and you want to see
it from an evaluation, standpoint, I'm not sure you'd get
the best evaluation for that. Honestly, you'll probably be better
off playing Awesome Richards at right tackle. Remember, he's a
guy that's been a swing tackle, He's played different positions,
and I think you just want to see him play.

(28:23):
So if that was the case, I think it'd be
better to play Awesome Richards at the right side and
keep guiding. As it is. Again, I don't know that.
I haven't been told that. Maybe he likes it. Maybe
it is better because he did play some right tackle before.
Maybe it would be better either way. Great thought, great
theory there. I just I don't know if moving guiding

(28:44):
around it's been tough enough as it is just getting
him there to be consistent at left tackle. All right,
let's go to Zach. He's in from Atlanta, but he's
in Austin right now. Zach, what's up?

Speaker 6 (28:57):
What's up? Nick?

Speaker 18 (28:58):
I feel like I can you with a ten foot
pole man?

Speaker 2 (29:02):
Well, try not to if you can.

Speaker 18 (29:08):
Hey calling from the same time zone, same state. I'm
at home this past week and it's been a lot
of fun.

Speaker 8 (29:16):
But I mean, quick recap. I feel like, if you're.

Speaker 18 (29:19):
The main character and the Cowboys are like the main storyline.
We all have our own little storylines going on. And
I'm showing back up to the table today. I drove
through a tornado last Saturday. There was tornadoes like in
the Houston and Louisiana area. That was ten out of ten.
Never want to do again. That stucked, wrote some roller
coasters at six Flags. The Longhorn game was crazy, you know.

(29:44):
Obviously the Cowboys game was crazy.

Speaker 2 (29:46):
Was there one? Was there one there called the Cowboy Ride?
Just no?

Speaker 18 (29:51):
They all yeah, yeah, those ones had a defined start
and stop.

Speaker 11 (29:58):
I don't know where.

Speaker 18 (30:00):
Yeah, Cowboys, I guess the season ends on Sunday. We
know that, so we think that. But yeah, Man, good
to be on the phone with you. Happy new year
to you and beam Man. Just a quick comment. I
think as we look to.

Speaker 19 (30:18):
This game and the off season around the corner, I
think we got to get the line straightened out in
this next off season draft and by the end of
next season to maximize Dax's contract to.

Speaker 18 (30:34):
You know, support whoever we're putting in the running game.
But yeah, I think, uh, but like like Leicester and Minnesota,
says Man, we gotta we got to make sure the
line is is stout going forward and they've made strides right,
like they know we were just talking about guiding. Uh,
they drafted Cooper bb and so you know, the resources

(30:57):
are there. They they've done what they feel like they
needed to do one paper. But it just really has
to pan out if we're gonna have success in this
next window. So that's all I got. I just wanted
to check in.

Speaker 4 (31:12):
Be careful, be careful driving through the storm and and
the roller coasters and all that you're talking about roller coasters.
This season has been one that Texas game was certainly one.

Speaker 8 (31:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 18 (31:24):
Yeah, I think earlier this season, after the Saints game,
I said, you know this is this is a performance
you want to flush down the dream?

Speaker 2 (31:33):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (31:33):
Wow, this this whole season, the season was not far behind.

Speaker 18 (31:38):
Exactly more of the norm than the abnormality. So take
your lumps and keep going.

Speaker 4 (31:45):
So appreciate it. Thanks for the call. You know, it
doesn't matter how you slice it. It doesn't matter how
many injuries that you throw out there and say, look
at all of the players on injured reserve, look at
you know, and and it's not wrong. I mean there's
there was fourteen guys that had made the Pro Bowl

(32:06):
that were on this roster, and that's what you know.
Jerry told us that this is this is why he
has optimism because this is a talented roster with some
really good players. And of those fourteen players, I mean,
at least ten or eleven of them spent time on
injury reserve or miss missed or at least more than
two or three games. So they just didn't They weren't

(32:27):
able to lean on those guys. And then some of
the other guys that they were hoping would make that
that leap this year just didn't. Didn't happen, didn't materialize
for one reason or another. But doesn't matter. The Saints
game will always be there, that Saints game. There's no
excuses for that, no excuses to play like that. They did,
coming off a week one win on the road to

(32:48):
come home to play a Saints team that we didn't
think was very good. They looked great. You made them
look great. And guess what, they weren't very good at all.
They're gonna be picking before you picked. You know, they
had injuries too, but that day, you know, very sad.
I mean, Alvin Kamara was was amazing, and and Peyton

(33:09):
I'm sorry Derek Carr was was unbelievable and the Cowboys
made them look that that way. So anyway, you slice
this season, that Saints game sitting there, and that was
the game that showed, uh oh we got problems here,
and they certainly did. All right, let's go to Davian
and Illinois. David becoming a regular.

Speaker 7 (33:30):
What's going on?

Speaker 2 (33:31):
What's up?

Speaker 5 (33:32):
Man?

Speaker 2 (33:32):
How are you doing?

Speaker 7 (33:34):
I'm doing well, man. It was hard to get in today. Boy,
I had to colld of like time.

Speaker 2 (33:38):
All right, I like it. I like it.

Speaker 4 (33:41):
Now are you are you able to call all the
time or is this kind of a because of the
of the holiday season that, like, your schedule is different.

Speaker 7 (33:50):
Yeah, my schedule is different. I'm where the plant shut
down to about next week. I go back to work
next week on the thirteenth, so uh, i'd be free
for next week too.

Speaker 2 (34:02):
Joined some time off. That's good, that's awesome.

Speaker 7 (34:05):
Yeah, yeah, pretty much. First day. First, I know you
mentioned that you was born in Streetport. That's actually my hometown.
Nice all right, as my hometown. That's where I was
born and raised and then all all over a little
my LSU Tigers. So yeah, street boys, where I'm at.

Speaker 4 (34:24):
Well, as a as a Louisiana man, it doesn't matter,
you know where in the state. I know everybody there
is thinking about what happened in New Orleans and just
how unbelievable that was. And I know people from Louisiana
kind of stick together, regardless if you're at the top
or the bottom of the boot or whatever.

Speaker 7 (34:43):
So yeah, prayers out for that. I mean, I was
really hurt when I saw that, having in New Orleans.
Believable my score prediction, I think seventeen were probably gonna
lose this some one. I think Washington has a little
bit more to play for. I think we treated like
a preseason game, so I think it's gonna be We're
gonna see our three quarterbacks. Hopefully we see a lot

(35:05):
of dues, so so my boy dealer can get his
uh finally get to see a duce do something that'd
be nice. And then I guess last week before I
get off, I was, of course, I listened to all
the shows, and I've been hearing when people call in,
and I guess one of the things that people called
in about is, of course you're McCarthy. And when I'm

(35:26):
one thing, they first thing out they mouth with the
one that actually liked McCarthy. They'll be like, well, we
got get rid of play calling, and I just want
to make people understand that play calling with McCarthy is
like taking cars with my six year old son. It's
just it's gonna be their regard. He don't want to
play call wherever he's at, wherever he's coaching it. It's
all he been doing. He only gave it up a

(35:47):
couple of times and killing Moore and Joe filming back
in Green Bay, so he don't really he likes to
play call play. So if you're gonna have him back,
he's gonna be a play caller. And that's why I've
been stunchily like he got to go because they one
and the same, and I don't need, I don't need
to play call anymore, so I forgot Yeah let's go.

Speaker 4 (36:06):
Yeah, well I mean you say that, and and but
but if if if the deal is this, like this
is the deal, like like it's not like he's the
coach right now. You know, his contract expires next week,
so the new contract says, okay, you're not the play caller.
And if he if he says no, that's not how

(36:27):
it works. Then you know, maybe then that's not how
it works. But I don't think the phone is ringing
off the hook for him if he if he is
out there, I mean, I don't think he's going to
have all these other options to be the coach, So
it might be his best option. I know you're saying
that's not the way he's going to operate, but he
operates if that's if that's the best thing. You know,

(36:49):
because you said it's happened twice. It happened here with
mc kellen, Morre's happened in Green Bay, so you know,
if it happens, it happens. He's gonna want to be
the head coach of the Cowboys. I mean, I think so.
I think if that that's the deal, then I think
that's the deal. And like I said yesterday, you can
still have your fingerprints on things to say, hey, I
want to run the football here, I want to or

(37:10):
in his case, I want to throw it. But but
you know, I mean, it's got to be it's got
to be a situation where you know, he is somebody
that he can work with.

Speaker 2 (37:18):
If they do do it.

Speaker 7 (37:19):
That way, well, I'll tell you this. We're coming to
Ougs now. You know, you're our crew coming to Ox
to hang out with y'all. So if he actually does that,
he actually says, I don't want to be a play
call anymore, then I would buy you and Chris and
drink all.

Speaker 2 (37:35):
Right on me cool. So if he does that sounds
sounds good.

Speaker 4 (37:39):
Yeah, get ready, because Chris likes to drink those big,
you know ones with the umbrella and the fruity ones.

Speaker 2 (37:44):
I'm kidding, I'm kidding, I'm kidding. All right, man, I
have a good one, Dave. I appreciate that good stuff.

Speaker 4 (37:51):
We're going to take a break here one more time
on Cowboys storyline, to be right back after this.

Speaker 2 (39:02):
To Cowboys storyline.

Speaker 4 (39:08):
All right, welcome back here, Cowboys storyline. All right, here's
the deal. So we do have regular shows weekly starting
next Wednesday, but there will be a show on Monday
of this next week here, Monday, right after the game
here January. That's what January sixth, Monday, at one o'clock
Central time. It's going to be a quick thirty minute show,

(39:29):
so it'll be in and out, in and out. We'll
get some callers, we'll talk about how the season's over with,
the draft order will be out, the opponents will be out,
all that kind of stuff, so we'll be able to talk.

Speaker 2 (39:40):
It'll be a quick show.

Speaker 4 (39:41):
We're we'll go in and out as quickly as we can,
so there won't be a lot of time for reflection
and all that kind of stuff. Just a couple of
quick notes and we'll get it going. We got to
do that twice on Mondays, this Monday, the next Monday
again to kind of fulfill our contract obligations for the
TV show that we do. But Wednesday is Wednesday, Wednesday,

(40:02):
nine thirties. That's going to be the time. That's what
we'll do for sure. But I do need to need
a few callers there Monday, next Monday here and then
the Monday after that. All right, let's go to the
back of the lines here. Rick Webster, Massachusetts.

Speaker 2 (40:15):
Rick, what's up?

Speaker 9 (40:17):
How are you doing that? I'm look good. Winding down
my vacation. Go back to work on Monday.

Speaker 2 (40:22):
All right, all right, hard working man. I like it.

Speaker 9 (40:26):
Yeah, I got a couple does shout outs to do.
You know people you appreciate everything that they put into
is like Dylan from Dylan and Irene and Travis for
the Draft show, and also you know Captain Rob for
putting in hisseduff in, but especially you and uh Chris

(40:49):
for all the hard work he does in the back
taking all our calls and everything like that. Appreciate everything
you guys do, especially the callers than Rick. And also
another shout out to is au See Cowboys. You want
the first annual Storyliners Fantasy football league.

Speaker 2 (41:08):
Oh nice, nice, that's awesome.

Speaker 9 (41:11):
Michael Football with Green was in second.

Speaker 2 (41:14):
Okay, of course he is. That's awesome. Yeah, that's good. Something.

Speaker 4 (41:18):
Maybe maybe we'll do something like that for March Madness.
You know, we'll have like a storyline pool or something
like that we can get for free. Obviously no money please,
but we do something like that. Not the same as
fantasy football, of course, but just something to kind of
keep everybody in.

Speaker 2 (41:36):
We could, we could set that up, all right.

Speaker 9 (41:38):
Yeah, my prediction is gonna be Cowboys twenty four and
Commander's twenty one and Brandon Albury gets the game winner
and field goal.

Speaker 2 (41:50):
Be awesome. That would be great. All right, Rick, we're
gonna keep it.

Speaker 4 (41:54):
We're gonna keep it rolling. Good to hear from you again.
All right, let's go to North Carolina. We got Eric
in Carolina. Eric, how are you doing.

Speaker 7 (42:05):
I'm doing well.

Speaker 11 (42:06):
I hope you are. I'm just going to say that
I think. I also think we we need the coaching change,
just because it seems like the league's defenses have gotten
used to McCarthy's playbook and didn't seem to like expand

(42:27):
it very much. And I dislike an undisciplined team, like
with the numerous penalties we've had the past several years.
And then the last thing I wanted to say was,
I think for our team for next year, one of
the best things we can do is to get an

(42:51):
impact player, an impact defensive player, to take the pressure
off of Parsons, you know, or the double teaming.

Speaker 12 (42:59):
I know.

Speaker 11 (43:00):
Ever since twenty twenty, we've alternated first round picks between
offense and defense. So this year, the uh, this year
it says defense. Okay, we'll see if that holds true.
But I think that defensive tackle Graham might be the

(43:23):
best pick for us. Although I'm not too excited about
Michigan players. I know, but you got but like brought
us a scout, the player, not the helmet.

Speaker 2 (43:33):
Yeah, well that's that's true.

Speaker 4 (43:36):
But you know, I looked at I look at some
mock drafts just the other day just for fun, and
I saw like four Michigan players, three on defense, like
in the top fifteen, and I was like, what I mean,
somebody was smashing them, you know, like like, now, yeah,
their defense, their offense obviously had problems. But yeah, you
draft another Michigan guy, there's gonna be there's gonna be

(43:57):
some issues there.

Speaker 11 (43:59):
Oh yeah.

Speaker 4 (44:00):
And that's like yeah, but hey, that's that's kind of
that's that's the way it goes.

Speaker 2 (44:06):
You know. If they can play, they can play.

Speaker 4 (44:08):
I mean, if you got Aiden Hutchinson, I don't think
anyone you know, I think will be fine with that.
So there's certainly exceptions to the rules.

Speaker 2 (44:15):
They can play. Yeah, all right, anything else, Eric, just one.

Speaker 11 (44:21):
Last thing, uh, Also, our offense needs some impact player
to take the pressure off Lamb, just like we need
a defensive player to take the pressure off of Parsons.
If we could get more threats out there, I think
that that'd be the best thing, the best thing for us.

(44:42):
But with that, I'll bid you and Chris a great day.

Speaker 4 (44:47):
Thanks, thanks so much. Eric, appreciate that I'm with you
on the offensive player too. This is another guy, a
little speed threat. I mean, Turpin has been a good addition,
but he's still sort of in that gadget role.

Speaker 2 (44:59):
Type. I'm talking about.

Speaker 4 (45:01):
A receiver like what Baltimore added with with Zay Flowers
to their team. You know, I know he was a
first round pick. But a guy like that you don't
have to be you know, you're not gonna be playing
in the NBA.

Speaker 2 (45:13):
You don't have to be that that tall.

Speaker 4 (45:14):
But but a guy that's very quick, that that can
they can do some things to hurt you down the
field and also uh make people miss. All right, let's
go one more caller here, Lester in Minnesota. Lester, what's up?

Speaker 7 (45:28):
Good morning, Neck, Good morning, how are you.

Speaker 20 (45:31):
I'm doing well. I don't really have too much to
say today. I just want to call in and say
thank you for your show. You and Chris, thanks and
all of all of everyone who works with you and
everyone who puts the shows together.

Speaker 6 (45:47):
Just it was.

Speaker 20 (45:48):
It was up and down season, but I still love
my Cowboys and.

Speaker 6 (45:57):
The score.

Speaker 20 (45:57):
This week, I'm gonna say I'm going to do one
one point prediction twenty to nineteen, okay, and one last
thing for you Cowboys, for all our cowboys.

Speaker 4 (46:10):
Hey, les sir, tell us what the Cowboys need to
do to get better?

Speaker 20 (46:14):
Yeah, I was going to say one last thing is
can we get a good, very good offensive and defensive line.

Speaker 7 (46:21):
This is what we have?

Speaker 20 (46:22):
Cowboys go, Cowboys, all.

Speaker 2 (46:24):
Right, thank you one more time. I like it.

Speaker 4 (46:27):
Hey, I like consistency, you know what I mean. So
if you if that's your that's your point, make it
every time.

Speaker 2 (46:34):
I like it. All right.

Speaker 4 (46:35):
Well, unless we have another caller, it's just kind of
right up against it here Cowboys break coming up here next.
Had eleven calls today. It was good stuff. I know
there seemed like it was tough to get in. So
appreciate you guys calling in and and and talking about
a game that that it's hard to predict. I mean, like,

(46:56):
you know, someone said, hey, I got an easy question
for you. I was like, well, I'm thinking to myself,
I hope it's not who's playing quarterback because that's usually
the easiest one there is, and in this case it isn't.
My guess is Trey Lance will play a good amount.
I did an interview with Steven Jones earlier this week.
He kind of said that, he said, you know, he
thought that he would play quite a bit. So does

(47:18):
that mean he'll start, We'll see. I don't know if
will Greer. We'll get in there at all or Cooper
Rush at all. But I would imagine Trey Lance gets
the majority of the of the snaps in this game,
and so it'll be it'll be interesting to see, you know.
I mean, we've kind of been waiting for it, just
to see what he would be like. I don't think
he was the best option. And you know, even if

(47:40):
he lights it up, I still I think that they
did the right call here this We're not We're not
going anywhere. The show will be here next week. Like
I said, we have the Monday show for at one
o'clock Monday for thirty minutes, and then we'll also get
into our regular Wednesday show. But it is a good time,
you know, to wrap up this regular season for me

(48:00):
to say thank you to everybody, just just just the
knowledge that you bring, the passion that you bring, the energy,
and just the commitment to the show. It's just second
to nine. This second year has been better than the first.
The first was better than we ever thought it would be.
I can't wait to see what next year is going

(48:22):
to be like. This community that we've built is awesome
and I love that you guys are a part of it.
And I say it a billion times. It's y'all's show.
I'm just just having fun driving the bus. And it
has been great this season through a tough year because
you got to remember last year doing this show, getting
the callers, oh this is easy. Yeah, we're talking about

(48:44):
a forty point win, talking about scoring fifty points here,
thirty five point win, all that, you know, good good stuff.
A little different this year with all the things that
have happened. Even through it all, you guys have been
classy and and you've been very respectful, and I appreciate
that because it's not easy to talk about some of
the things we talk about, and you guys understand the

(49:05):
platform that we have and kind of how we have
to navigate it. And I appreciate that more than you
guys will probably know. For Chris Beam, who's been awesome
all season long, you have no idea just how great
he's been, and I appreciate him and his commitment to
this show and all the shows every single week. So
for Chris be, I'm Nick Eatman. We will see you

(49:26):
around the weekend here, We'll see you on Monday, but
definitely we'll see you every week on Wednesday after this,
So Cowboys storyline, See you next week.
