Speaker 1 (00:06):
The following He's a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com
and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Cowboys.

Speaker 3 (00:16):
This He's Cowboys Storyline with Nick Eatman.

Speaker 4 (00:35):
What's up? Welcome to Cowboys Storyline. I'm your host, Nick Eatman,
and let's talk a little Cowboys and Panthers. Big win
for the Cowboys on Sunday. They defeat Carolina thirty to fourteen.
The underdog Cowboys, if you will, went into Carolina and
won that game. Everybody's having some fun with that. I

(00:58):
wrote my cap I'm on that Dallas Cowboys dot Com.
That was certainly not a situation where one team was
the favorite and the underdog. It doesn't mean anything about
who's the better football team and who's got the most talent.
Cowboys obviously showed that, went out there, took care of business.
Had a little bit of a hiccup there right before

(01:19):
the halftime where it look like this this might be
a game now. They opened the door and let Carolina
go in, and then they slammed the door in the
third quarter. Something we have not said all year long.
Slamming the door in the third quarter. No, No, that
hasn't been a thing. Cow first play of the third quarter.
Ohso Diggi Zoo comes in and smashes Bryce Young forces

(01:41):
of bumble. The Cowboys get it. Then they score just
like that. They're up seventeen to seven. Get another stop,
get the ball score again. And really, you know, did
what they're supposed to do to a team like that,
in a quarterback like that. And Bryce Young, who's to
me just not it's not very good. I mean, his

(02:01):
first pick over allay his heisman, but I just it's
still the second second season. Now, I just don't think
he is going to be the answer there. You know,
he's he's got a long ways to go. And when
he didn't break that arm tackle by Jordan Lewis for
the sack, that's all I need to know about how
how strong he is, how big he is and all that.
But I thought the Cowboys harassed him all game long,

(02:23):
and just a lot of different people making plays. It
was really a good one to see. Good win for
the Cowboys then they needed it. Uh six and eight
on the season, hanging on by the slimmest of margins
in the playoff picture. Uh they they probably will get
eliminated next or this upcoming weekend, just because somebody in

(02:48):
front of them is gonna win that they need so
much help just to get in now. If they would
have beaten Cincinnati last week, that would have been interesting,
but obviously didn't happen. All right, Eight A A eight
five five to two ninety seven is the number to Let's
go to our phone line here and Bob in Rio
Grand Valley. Bob, what's up Bil morning?

Speaker 5 (03:06):
How you doing good?

Speaker 4 (03:08):
How are you doing all right?

Speaker 5 (03:10):
Nick? Has been a while since I talked to you.
I have, like a lot of the fan base that
I'm disappointed the way the season's gone, but it's we
can write this season off due to injuries. It's definitely
not the coaching staff or the job that they've done.
I don't think that there's a coach or two coaches

(03:32):
in the NFL that could do a better job of
what they've had to work with than Mike and zim
At And I just want to go on the record
is saying that I was very proud of the way
the Cowboys played the Sunday. I was very proud of
the way they played the Sunday before that, And I'm

(03:53):
looking forward to the rest of the season and the
off season, and I hope beyond hope that Jerry Jones
has got enough sense to retain the two coaches that
he's got, because he's got two great ones.

Speaker 4 (04:06):
Thank you all right, thanks Bob, uh putting some support
out there for Mike McCarthy, Mike Zimmer.

Speaker 6 (04:13):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (04:13):
They you know, they have played. They have played better.
There's there's no doubt about it. They've been a lot
more prepared too in these games, is at least what
it looks like, prepared to go out and succeed early
on in the game. If that's all on the coaches,
you know a lot of it is because it's they
They control how you prepare all week long, that they

(04:35):
control how you practice, that they control the meetings, uh,
and in everything so and obviously the play calls. So
it has looked better, it's been better. And you know
it's just it's gonna be it's gonna be up to
Jerry to decide does he want to make make a

(04:56):
change here. And you know, when when you look at
at at the injuries, they there's there's so many of them.
There's so many of them. And when you think about
the what we've seen on the on the team this year,
and and just coming coming back from last year and
all the success that they had and all the star

(05:18):
power on this team, and just to think how much
of it has been utilized because of you know, injury.
It's it's a good it's a good reason that that
they they haven't had the same kind of success. But
I think, like to your point, Viob, I think Mike
uh McCarthy has done a really nice job of of

(05:38):
of least keeping this thing together here. And it's I mean,
it's the wheel's been wobbling from since New Orleans came
to town, honestly in week two, and Mike Zimmer's done
a nice job as well keeping it keeping it going.
But you know, it looks better when you got your
stars out there, when Micah Parsons is out there, it
looks better. And it certainly has looked better for this team.

(06:01):
All right, uh eight A A eight five five two
two nine seven is the number to call them. Phone
lines are hoping as we speak right here. Let's let's
talk a little bit more about the game here, the
Cowboys and the Panthers. You know, one of the one
of the things that that was that was interesting to
me was just how you know, they they fed the

(06:23):
ball to CD Lamb early in the game. One drive
in particular, they they got the ball and and you know,
on third down it was it was Cooper rush to CD.
Did it three times in one one drive, one possession,
it was a twenty yard or on third and long.
It was just a screen pass. Really to me, this
kind of looked like they were setting up to get

(06:44):
some yards and try to punt. But CD made some plays,
got a first down, then another twenty I think a
twenty eight yarder on third and long, and then on
third down down in the red zone he finds him
again for a touchdown. I thought that was you know,
if if you're going to target one play, target CD,
you know, go target him, go go after him. And

(07:04):
he certainly did and and and you know, ceed had
had a great game. Went over one thousand yards on
that drive, I believe, and for the fourth straight year,
only Michael Irvan and Ceedee Lamb have had four straight
one thousand yard seasons h for the Cowboys. So really
really an impressive drive there. And then you know, when

(07:26):
you get into Rico Daddle, I'm sure we'll talk about
him a little bit more as well, but that's kind
of how you want to to do any game when
you think about it, you want to You want to
go to your receivers, go to your star players, get
them going, get a lead defense, teed and teeing off,
getting sacks, and then run the ball and run the ball,
and run the ball and run it out. Cowboys ran

(07:46):
for two hundred and eleven yards in the game, obviously
a season high. One forty nine for Dawdle, but thirty
for Zeke, twenty seven for Turpin, who we saw that
little wrinkle with him out there, just as a straight tailback.
Nothing fancy about that. Just hand the all off like
you would any other back. He's averaging thirteen point five
yards of carry. To watch out and maybe maybe that win.

(08:06):
Might need to see more of that, all right? Chuck
D's in Bridge City, Texas. What's up man?

Speaker 6 (08:13):
Hey? Nick? It's been a while.

Speaker 4 (08:14):
Yeah, how are you doing?

Speaker 5 (08:16):
Good?

Speaker 6 (08:16):
Good?

Speaker 7 (08:18):
Tr tried a few times of costs.

Speaker 8 (08:19):
Been busy, but hey, that's good. I mean too busy.

Speaker 4 (08:22):
I don't think it's busy today. I don't know what
I got. Let's go first. It rained the first time
I got on. I don't even know what to say.

Speaker 8 (08:29):
I'll surprised it, I know, but.

Speaker 4 (08:31):
I know maybe maybe shopping.

Speaker 8 (08:35):
Yeah, I was just.

Speaker 9 (08:35):
Gonna say that there's a couple of players that I've
been getting better.

Speaker 4 (08:40):
Yeah, and this is.

Speaker 8 (08:41):
What you want to see.

Speaker 10 (08:42):
But I like that schememakers coming around.

Speaker 11 (08:45):
Yeah, and uh and and Leo foul.

Speaker 6 (08:49):
He's made a few players.

Speaker 4 (08:51):
Sure, Yeah, he's done nice job.

Speaker 9 (08:54):
Injuries, you know, they suck, but prime example, these guys
have stepped up.

Speaker 11 (08:59):
And uh, I like it.

Speaker 9 (09:01):
It's a future, something to look forward to.

Speaker 4 (09:04):
Yeah, all right, well, it certainly has has been a
good good you know, next man up philosophy has always
been the case here. But you know, it's been nice
when they've done it. And and there's been a lot
of guys that have had the opportunity to do the
next man up because there's been so many injuries.

Speaker 11 (09:23):
Sair uh and uh.

Speaker 8 (09:25):
I like seeing Rico.

Speaker 9 (09:26):
He's running hard and hopefully we'll keep him for a
couple more years.

Speaker 8 (09:29):
And draft another back. I'd like to have two good bets.

Speaker 4 (09:33):
Yeah, I think he's a he would be a good
compliment back to anyone. I mean, maybe he is the starter,
and but you need everybody needs another back here and
and we see it. I mean, you know, everyone wonders
why is he goes in the game, but you know,
you you need a backup, and he's especially the way
he's running, like you said, the way he's running hard.
And when you're run in like that and you run
into the ball a lot and you're running hard, you

(09:55):
don't need a break. So that's that's kind of what
they'll need to do for sure. So all right, all right,
thank you.

Speaker 8 (10:04):
Talk about stuff everybody else to talking about.

Speaker 4 (10:06):
But thank you, all right, appreciate it, Thanks for the call.
Good hearing from you again. You know, I thought I
was hoping Rico would get one more yard to get
to that one fifty mark. Not a lot of not
a lot of backs have done that. You know, when
you think about Zeke's career high, he's had like five
in that one fifty range and it's done it. And

(10:30):
DeMarco Murray obviously has has done I think he's got
the record for most rushing yards. Troy Hambrick might have
done in Dorsets obviously got gotten up there, but just
not not a ton acts like there's not a media
guy in front of me. I can kind of figure
that out. But uh, anyways, it was. It was an
impressive you know run for him, U impressive game for him.

(10:53):
And so uh, you know, I'm looking at the Cowboys
big days rushing right here. You know, Murray he's got
the record at two fifty three, Emmett two thirty seven
door set and then Julius Jones had two of them
there in the one ninety range, Hambrick with one eighty nine,
one eighty nine for Troy Hambrick. Wow. But then as

(11:16):
far as you know, one fifty go, it's it's a
lot of it's a lot of Zeke, a lot of
Emmitt Smith, DeMarco, Murray, herschel Walker and did it once.
It's too bad though, too bad we didn't get Rico
up in that in that range as well. All right,
let's go to Brian in Lakeland, Florida.

Speaker 9 (11:36):
Nick, how's it going man? Happy holiday season to you, sir.

Speaker 4 (11:40):
You too good to hear from you.

Speaker 6 (11:43):
And it's been a while.

Speaker 8 (11:44):
I haven't called to see off season.

Speaker 9 (11:45):
Usually I'm sitting at my desk or you know, catching
up on the way home from work. But turned thirty
nine to day and.

Speaker 5 (11:51):
So I took the day off.

Speaker 4 (11:53):
Now happy birthday.

Speaker 9 (11:56):
Story line, Hey, thank you I appreciate it's more than
to get away on the birthday.

Speaker 4 (12:00):
Chris, that's where something you're not first time caller, but
I mean you got something you do. Here we go, Yeah,
here we go.

Speaker 9 (12:06):
It might be my fourth or fifth time, but that no.
I mean, just like I said, I wanted to call
kind of give my anopsis on the season. You know
what's kind of nice, like i'd seeing the team win yesterday.
I'm one of those fans like kind of like Travis
and I'm on the storyline spaces too, you know, like
that everything called. But uh, you know, rooting for the
best pick. However, while rooting for the best pick, it

(12:28):
is nice to see a game like that. It's nice
to see Marie make a big play, both Jalen score
a touchdown. You know, it's nice to see Rico go
off for basically one fifty. That's a lot of fun.
You know, like we're not, like contrary to believe, we're
not sitting back like misers over here going like, oh
now you want to score a touchdown. It's fun for
us anyway, even though we're rooting for a good pick. Yeah,

(12:48):
but I did want to touch on something that Irene
said the other day.

Speaker 8 (12:51):
I think she was.

Speaker 9 (12:52):
Talking about a tumbler that she had or something, and
a Panthers fan was giving her mess and you know,
like other than rooting for the team, and that's one
of my favorite things about being a Cowboys fan. It's
one of my favorite things that just meet new people,
talking to people whatever, and then you know, get into football.

Speaker 8 (13:07):
Who's your team?

Speaker 9 (13:08):
And as soon as they answered ask that, I know
my answer and I know it's coming. I know it's coming,
and it's just fun for me.

Speaker 8 (13:15):
I'm a Cowboys fan.

Speaker 4 (13:16):
Yeah, yeah, deal with it and yeah.

Speaker 9 (13:19):
Yep, Like I just started the new job here in
Florida last year and you know, talking to the guys
here and meet my buddies and everything, we start talking
fancy football. Hey a Cowboys fan. Seriously, the Cowboys really.

Speaker 6 (13:30):
And I love it.

Speaker 9 (13:31):
I love to hate. Bring it, I don't care. I'm
die hard. Let's go.

Speaker 4 (13:34):
Yeah yeah, I mean yeah, And you have to you
kind of have to have that mentality, there's no doubt
about it. And it's the Cowboys are just that team.
That's like people love to love to hate. They love
to love, love to hate. It's as simple as that.

Speaker 9 (13:50):
It doesn't matter who their team is. If they're a
Package fan, they treat you like you're a Bears fans,
they're a Pats fan, they treat you like your a
Dolphins fan.

Speaker 8 (13:56):
It's just it's just fun for me.

Speaker 9 (13:57):
I don't know why I embrace it so much, but
I do.

Speaker 4 (14:00):
Well. But you have to, you know, yeah, I mean
that's just kind of that's that's what it is. But
it also you know, that's that's why you're a fan
of any team. You know, you have to deal with
with the negative stuff because it makes the positive stuff
a lot sweeter, just like this.

Speaker 9 (14:15):
This last game, absolutely, and you know this last game
that was so fun, Like I mean, we were doing
a little you know, storyline cad and you know, as
soon as Jalen scores, there's some starcas of like I never.

Speaker 12 (14:28):
Doubted Jalen Ditsch for a second.

Speaker 6 (14:29):
I always knew it.

Speaker 4 (14:30):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 8 (14:32):
It's just a lot of fun.

Speaker 9 (14:33):
But anyways, that's all I got today, man, just loving it.
Like I said, thirty nine, here's to the last three
hundred and sixty five days in my thirties, all right.

Speaker 4 (14:41):
Man, Well enjoy it. Happy birthday to you, Brian and
Lakeland Florida. Appreciate the call there. Let's keep it going.
Let's go to a real first time caller. This is
a Philly in Las Cruses to Mexico.

Speaker 10 (14:55):
Philly, Hey, Nick, how are you doing that?

Speaker 4 (14:58):
I'm good. So you're a cowboy fan, Philly.

Speaker 10 (15:01):
Billy b I o I.

Speaker 4 (15:03):
Oh Billy okay sorry?

Speaker 12 (15:05):
William yeah yeah.

Speaker 4 (15:06):
Yeah, William yeah, yep, yeah, yep.

Speaker 10 (15:11):
I'm glad to finally get through. I rarely get to
the listen live, but I've been consuming your content since
it was a TV channel about twenty years ago. Now, yeah,
came across it, and I want to thank whoever gets
that podcast up so quick, because it's it's there as
soon as the show's over. Pretty pretty good, pretty good.

Speaker 4 (15:29):
That would be Josh Roguez and his crew, Josh and Chris.

Speaker 10 (15:32):
It's knocking that out, fantastic, and it's it's gotten quicker
over the years. It used to be a few hours
afterwards ten years ago or whatever. Now it's right away.

Speaker 4 (15:40):
But let's not forget there's eight of them. Okay, I
mean you know that it's not just well you put
up the podcast. You're putting up podcasts all day long.
So yeah, it's impressive. They do a good job.

Speaker 10 (15:52):
Yeah, I used to listen to all the shows. I
can't keep up with eight anymore.

Speaker 4 (15:55):
Well, yeah, it's tough.

Speaker 10 (15:57):
But actually had a question, like more of a league policy,
but what's the rule on like coaching other teams coaches
during the seasons. It always seems like it's driven me.
It's driven me nuts in the past, like you know,
we'll go twelve and five and yeah, win and kill
it Moore interviewing before a playoff game or something like that. Yep,
But I mean it seems like the Lions coach is
the is the hot one right now. But like, let's

(16:19):
the stop of team from the Bears, who has already
fired their coach from doing it mid season and h
and you know that. I'm sure it's going to drive
Lions fans nuts because it's the best team they've ever had, really,
And yeah, both of their coordinators are going to be
interviewing before they play the Packers in the second round
or something like that. Yeah, yeah, no, I that's a
good question.

Speaker 4 (16:39):
I don't think I've ever heard of the rule in
the regular season, So if that might be a rule,
I mean, it usually doesn't happen that way. But but yeah,
I mean it happens in the playoffs and and and
I think because because typically you have an interim coach,
so yeah, you know you're you're gonna let it roll

(17:00):
that way. But no, I think for the most part,
it's a it's a playoff thing, you know that that
that happens kind of in the playoffs.

Speaker 10 (17:08):
Yeah, I mean, personally, I think they should just put
them off limits till after the Super Bowl. I mean,
there's a month and nothing after that. We could have
have some news on coaching HighRes then. But uh, but yeah,
I know what happens in the playoffs. I'm just wondering
if it's just more of a policy or people are
just nice about not other team's coaches during the season.

Speaker 4 (17:27):
Well yeah, but you also got to remember this too,
like like when the season is over, let's say this
for whoever and and and their coach is going to
be there. You know, they get a head start on
a lot of things, a lot of personnel decisions that
they're going to make it all that, so I don't
think they want to push it to that point because
you know, if you're going to change it. So it's
just it kind of is what it is. And yeah,

(17:48):
I mean it happened to last year dan Quinn was
interviewing for for jobs and uh, you know, was he prepared?
I mean, well, the defense was terrible. The defense was
absolutely terrible against against the package. And I'm not blaming him,
but for whatever the reason, they had their worst showing.

(18:09):
And so so, yeah, that that does happen. And if
the Lions lose in the playoffs, then their fans will
say we're cursed. We're cursed because our coaches got in
were interviewing before the you know, the games. That's the
reality of it. Yeah.

Speaker 6 (18:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 10 (18:26):
And then one other question, what's Josh Ellis.

Speaker 8 (18:29):
Up to these days?

Speaker 4 (18:29):
Josh Ellis, Yeah, I don't know, Like I don't, I know,
he's uh, I forgot exactly, like a publishing company or something.
He's doing something.

Speaker 10 (18:42):
Much as miss sarcasm during Cowboys games on Twitter.

Speaker 4 (18:45):
Oh, I'm sure he's still got it. I'm sure he's
still got it, haven't. I haven't talked to him in
a while, but yeah, he's uh, I'm sure he's still
he's still you know, throwing some singers now and again. Uh, yeah,
that's that's kind of what he does. So all right,
all right, Billy, thanks.

Speaker 10 (19:02):
For taking my calls. Have finally get through.

Speaker 6 (19:04):
I have a great one.

Speaker 4 (19:05):
All right, thank you. All right, let's go one more
call here before we take a break. Cowboy Jeff, he's
in Maryland. What's that man?

Speaker 13 (19:16):
Merry Christmas?

Speaker 11 (19:17):
How are you?

Speaker 4 (19:18):
I'm good? How are you doing?

Speaker 6 (19:20):
I am.

Speaker 13 (19:21):
I'm just doing better than I deserve. That's how I'm.

Speaker 4 (19:24):
Doing better than you deserve. Okay, all right? Where are
you from? Where are you calling from?

Speaker 13 (19:30):
Mount Airy, Maryland?

Speaker 4 (19:31):
Nice? Okay, all right, So I get it.

Speaker 13 (19:35):
I get that's where cowboy Jeff comes from. Because the
my neighbors that aren't cowboys fan Whenever cowboys lose, they're like, oh,
there's cowboys, Jeff, let's go, let them have it. But
when the cowboys win, they avoid me, like the Plaguey's
that's cool with me.

Speaker 4 (19:50):
I hadn't seen them today.

Speaker 13 (19:51):
Huh yeah. I can't see anyone anywhere near me. But
so I had a comment. I wanted to comment about
Ceedee Lamb's toughness. Toughness. I mean, he's he's showing it
this year, but I really think he showed it. I
remember his rookie season. He would catch a pass and
just get tasted and they would throw flags but he

(20:12):
would just get up and wipe his nose. And I
was like, wow, because he looks pretty. He doesn't look
that big, but he's tough as heck.

Speaker 6 (20:21):
Yeah, appreciate that.

Speaker 4 (20:23):
Yeah. Yeah, he's not the biggest, but he's added some
weight this year. Uh yeah for for this type of
you know reason and you know, and he's and and
he's still breaking tackle. So he's been a good run
after catch guy. No, it's been it's been a good
it's been a good season for him, It really has been.

Speaker 6 (20:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 13 (20:43):
And then the other thing, I was going to ask
you to tell a story. So I know I've told
you before, I want to work for you know, at
the Star and I want to work at at and
He Stadium. But but I got it. I figured it out.
I could be your get back coach for you personally,
for me, your back coach. Yeah yeah, because you know,
if people are tapping on the grass on the glass,

(21:03):
you know, when you're doing your show and and distracting
you know, I'm kidding about that. But uh, but the
story I wanted you, I think you've told her before,
but maybe even go into more detail. Something happened the
last time you visited the Carolina Panthers. Man And uh
and I think you told her before, but I can't
remember the whole story, if you don't mind telling that.

(21:24):
But anyway, appreciate you go Cowboys all right and up year.

Speaker 4 (21:29):
Thank you. Well, Yeah, there were no issues in Carolina
this year. No, no no issues at all. Pretty clean
glint game from that standpoint. Last year, yeah, there was.
There was an issue or two and and a couple

(21:49):
of little other dust ups, if you will. That probably
went down to you know, me being not as patient
as I needed to be. But at the the last
one there at the very end, our team was trying
to do a we're trying to do some stand ups,
and they the head of security was was just didn't

(22:12):
like us being right there but kind of by the tunnel,
so moved us to the back and and just kept
talking and talking and and he was just fed up
because it had been a day. Now the Cowboys are
basically just it was a takeover of the stadium from
the Jimmy Johnson you know interview or the announcement to
the Bank of America CEO being in Jerry Sweet. Even

(22:34):
though the stadium is called Bank of America Stadium. He's
over there with his first game of the season that
he attended, and he attends it and sits with Jerry
and not with the Panthers CEO, so that that was
another issue. Anyways, this security guard basically just said, hey,
you guys need to get get out of here, you know,
move over here and and go by. Go Happy Thanksgiving
to you, you know whatever. I think it was written

(22:54):
for Thanksgiving. And he said, you guys are the visitors,
remember that. And so I said, well, you know, I'm
judging by the fans there, it looks like we're the
home team. Well that was probably not what needed to
be said. Anyways, the guy comes over, he keeps harassing us.
He finally I'm looking at his badge, like, who is
this guy? He looks at mine and rips it off

(23:15):
of my belt. I got this flimsy little badge. He
rips it off, folded it up, put it in his pocket.
So and I actually got real calm at that point.
All I did was went and got a police officer
and said, let me have my badge back. This guy's
taking it from me. Little did I know this is
the director of security there. So he goes to the

(23:36):
cop and calls him by name, you know, hey Frank,
you know it's good or whatever. And so the guy
basically says, you have two choices, the cop does you
get either go to jail for trespassing or you can
get on the bus. So I decided to get on
the bus. But there were some email exchanges, and all
I know is a week later, Stephen Jones is talking
to me. You know, he heard about it. So it

(23:59):
was a This year was not let's go to break
here on Cowboys storyline. We'll be right back after this.

(26:08):
next on the line. He's been holding John. What's up hey?

Speaker 12 (26:13):
In one of the words on on a dig right now?
Are they thinking about cutting it? That's the injury this year?

Speaker 4 (26:22):
I don't believe so. Uh, Trayvon Diggs is that who
you're referring to? Trayvon?

Speaker 12 (26:27):
Yeah, I saw the top up yesterday that the injury
was worse than they thought that he should be getting cut.

Speaker 4 (26:33):
Well, that usually doesn't work like that. I mean, if
the injury is worse than you thought, you get surgery.
And so that's what I thought.

Speaker 12 (26:41):
That's thought about it.

Speaker 4 (26:43):
No, I don't think he's going to get cut. I mean,
you know, and I think there was some talk about,
you know, his contract maybe either getting extended or pushed out,
or maybe they cut him, maybe they trade him. I mean,
you know, a lot of options were on the table there. Uh,
this injury looks like he's to be out. Stephen Jones
said yesterday eight eight weeks, eight months, eight months to

(27:05):
eight month injury. So this is is Yeah, this is
probably one where you know, it'll it'll go into next season.
He'll probably start on pupp But.

Speaker 6 (27:14):
You know, do you have any stories on Michael my
favorite Michael Irvin?

Speaker 4 (27:21):
All right, well there's some stories obviously. Now I didn't
cover him, Thanks for the call, John, I didn't cover
most of his career. You know, I covered h I
was there in ninety eight, ninety nine. Now you know
my first year covered on the a training camp in
Wichita Falls. He that was scissors Gate, you know, with

(27:44):
the incident there with Everett mckiver. It's probably not the
story that you're taking. I got a story. I got
a story for Yeah, I mean like this, I should
have told this. I think I forgot to tell this.
When I was a kid, I was I mean, I
was thirteen years old and I and Halloween, me and
some buddies were walking around and we saw Michael Irvin.

(28:07):
He lived like two streets over. Michael Irvin second year
in the league, I believe nineteen eighty nine season, sitting
out in front of his house with a stack of
football cards, signing autographs and hating him out. Trick or
treat so and I had one for a while. I
don't know if I still have that card, but yeah,
he was just signing autographs and hand them out better

(28:30):
than any skittles you're gonna get there. So yeah, that's
my Michael Irvin story. Pretty safe, safe story. I'm sure
there's others. All right, let's go to Rick in Webster, Massachusetts.

Speaker 11 (28:43):
Hey, next, how you doing good?

Speaker 4 (28:44):
How are you doing?

Speaker 11 (28:46):
I'm good, especially after a win yesterday Victree Monday.

Speaker 4 (28:50):
Right right, definitely for sure everyone needed that.

Speaker 11 (28:56):
Yeah, I think they played a all the round game,
a three phases who are pretty good. My five stars
were basically the cd Rico, mi Uh, Marris Leafel, and
Osa with the you know, Jordans and Hits Kendricks.

Speaker 4 (29:16):
Yeah. That's that's a good list. I mean, that's the
thing there, there's ten of them. I mean we are
we were, you know, discussing who should be the player
of the game for social and there were about four options.
You know, Cooper Rush had a nice game, Rico had
had a really good game, cd Osa Osa was the
one I think that they picked. But Mike had great

(29:39):
stats too, So that's that's a great team win when
you can go and you have a lot of different
guys on both sides of the ball that you can
that you can point to.

Speaker 11 (29:49):
And they really picked it up in the second half
with everybody and a good to see you be trying
to kick a seventy yearder.

Speaker 4 (29:57):
Yeah I was. You know, honestly, I did not like that.
I did not like that. I'm a stats guy. If
he can't tell, you know, And so what I was
saying this is like, all right, first of all, I've
seen the Alabama Auburn game, and so all you're doing
is you're asking Tyler Smith and brock Hoffman and those
guys to go chase the kickoff. So it could be

(30:18):
dangerous because if he doesn't get it there, but you know,
season's gonna end. You're like, Aubrey had a good year,
Aubrey make the Pro Bowl. Well, you know he missed
five kicks? Did he did? He miss five kicks? Two
of them were blocked. One of them is seventy yarder,
you know, and you know in a swirling wind down there,
like I just look at it like, probably not gonna

(30:38):
make it. So if you're gonna try seventy yarder, I
do it at a T T stadium with roofs and
doors closed and let him let him bang it then.
But whatever, it's all good. Thank you, all right man,
thanks uh all right. You know I was we were
talking about different guys though that played that played well
in the game and on on defense. And you know

(31:00):
they had six sacks. Five different players got a sack.
When you look at either getting a sack forcing a turnover,
it's it's like seven different players, eight players. Actually, that's
that's a strong game. That's a strong game when you
when when everybody gets like who got a turnover? Who
got a sack? And eight guys got their hand up.

(31:23):
That's that's the way it should be. And Mike has
got two, Osa got one and a half. I mean,
that's that's a that's a really good team effort there.
Guy's rallying to the ball, making plays, making plays because
of the pressure. Jordan Lewis gets his hand in, their
ball knocks up in the air, picked by Kendricks. You know,
they had a lot of good pressure. Mukuama with a

(31:44):
with a with a pick so really really a good
game there. All right, let's go to Champ in Grand Island, Nebraska. Champ.

Speaker 6 (31:51):
What's up, hey, ned, good morning, Happy victory Monday.

Speaker 4 (31:55):
Yeah, how are you doing?

Speaker 6 (31:57):
I'm doing well? Man. So I had a question before you,
but I think somebody took it or you answered it,
but I wasn't ask you how your trip went and
make sure it was better than last year.

Speaker 4 (32:05):
Yeah, yep, it was. It was better than last year.
I didn't see my man security guys just see it
had he'd had a bad day and he, uh, he
took it out. You know, he can't and took it out.
He couldn't take it out on like Jerry and them,
so he took it out on us and it was.
It was fun. It was.

Speaker 6 (32:24):
It didn't maybe I missed it. But did you see
him at all this year?

Speaker 4 (32:27):
Yeah? Yeah, I did see him right at the end
of the game. He's just standing there.

Speaker 6 (32:32):
Yeah, anything there, just they're not or anything.

Speaker 4 (32:35):
Because because here's the deal. When you when you act
like that, when a team comes into your stadium and
beats you like that, and then you're you're you're frustrated.
It happens all the time for him, I can promise
you that it happened all the time teams coming in.
You remember that time when a team came in here

(32:57):
and act like they owned the place, They had all
the fans, and they beat our as you know, and
then they act like they could do everything. Yeah, it
happens every week so time. So yeah, I'm just kind
of I was probably one of many. So that's why
I think that's all.

Speaker 6 (33:11):
Yeah, good, Well, my other I had another question. I
noticed that Tyler Smith wasn't playing later in the game.
Was that just because they took him out to make
sure he didn't get hurt or was there something that
I miss something that he might have gotten hurt or
I I talked.

Speaker 4 (33:29):
To him a little in the locker room. I believe
his high school team is in the state championship game,
so there were some talks about that. He was really
excited about it. Then he was talking just about the
way this team played and how you know they're going
to keep playing and keep fighting here. So I didn't
get the sense of that at all. You know, remember

(33:50):
they just lost Bass quickly like bass goes out. I mean,
it usually takes a while. You get you get an
injury and then you say. They say in the press
ball TJ Bass thigh injury. He's being evaluated. He was
questionable for return. They just ruled him out. So that
right there was like a little little interesting. So we'll see.

(34:13):
I think they were just like we might we may
be down to guard already. Let's let's get him, Let's
get him back here and okay, good, And it might
be a situation where Bb comes back this week and
then Hoffman goes back to guard. Haffin's playing. I mean Hoffin,
he is.

Speaker 6 (34:28):
Hoffin is awesome. I'm going to send a shout out
for his apron podcast. He hasn't had one in a while,
but I love listening to him. I listened to all
his episodes last off season, so I can't wait for
him to get started again. I mean, so go ahead,
Tylers Smith question. My concern was on the seventy yard
Goil go with him. He kind of looked like he yep,

(34:48):
looked a little weird when he tried to make that
tackle on him. That's what's scared. I know he played
more in the game, and then when I didn't see him,
I was like, oh, no, second part of that on
TV the.

Speaker 5 (34:59):
Same yard attempt.

Speaker 6 (35:01):
It was awful. It was bad. Yeah, what was it
like there? Did it look like it got rushed? Did
it't look any better live than it did on TV?

Speaker 4 (35:12):
Not really? And we had a good view with press box.
I mean, I mean, we're you know, sideview, but you
could tell because he was he was kicking from left
to right, so we had a really good view of it,
and you could tell it was going to be short
and just. And I could tell right away based off
of the returner down there because of where he was
going for the ball. So I knew that it was.

(35:34):
It wasn't, you know, And I just didn't. I didn't
like it. I didn't like the attempt.

Speaker 6 (35:39):
I didn't either. I was hoping it would have been
a sixty nine yard or excuse me, a sixty seven
yard out of seventy. That's a big difference. Yeah, Hey,
before I hang out, real quick, last question. I noticed
you referenced the media guide on your table there a lot,
and I've been meaning to ask you this for a while.
Is there any way that fans can purchase those I
found it online and I downloaded it on my phone.

(36:00):
It's four hundred pages. To try to look through my phone.
That's difficult because one or there's any way or anywhere
that fans can purchase those.

Speaker 4 (36:09):
I've never heard of that that. I've never heard of
purchasing it.

Speaker 6 (36:12):
No.

Speaker 4 (36:13):
Uh, and typically you don't you know, you don't buy
media guides. That's that's typically not something for so they don't.
They don't make that many of them, so I have
never I've never seen that. Now you found a download that,
that's that's cool, but I don't know about purchasing them.
I've never heard that. So Okay, sorry, good deal, Well

(36:34):
with that, go Cowboys.

Speaker 6 (36:35):
Let's enjoy this week and get ready for a tough
tap of Bay week. Yep, yeah, thank you you too.

Speaker 4 (36:41):
All right, let's go to Irene in Falls Church, Virginia.

Speaker 9 (36:46):
Hey, Nick, how you going good?

Speaker 4 (36:48):
How are you good?

Speaker 6 (36:49):
Good?

Speaker 9 (36:50):
Hey?

Speaker 15 (36:50):
So you know, I started our and I started that
in the middle of the season when things were going badly.
I was I was one of those who was like,
let's just give up a tank for the draft picks,
and then that Washington game changed my mind. I wanted
to badly be our arrival. We started competing. So all
that to say, I'm no longer rooting for the draft
pick I'm happy. I'm happy they won. What I like

(37:12):
in the evaluation, I guess winner lose, to be honest,
is seeing who on the team cares. Love what I'm
seeing from Micah, Love what I'm seeing from CD playing
through the injury, maris great, Like I'm loving that. So however,
winter loss, however, they get you know, these evaluations.

Speaker 10 (37:31):
That's good for me.

Speaker 15 (37:33):
What is frustrating, though, is hearing comments from Steven that
are already setting us up for an off season where
we're going to do this negotiation tactic or we don't
sign Micah until you know, two weeks before that started
the season, and we don't sign anyone in free agency
because we didn't sign him early enough. So it's frustrating

(37:54):
because I feel invested in this team, and I just
don't understand the strategy because they end up caving on
the pricing. Anyway, So anyway, happy with the team, but
I don't know about that stuff.

Speaker 4 (38:06):
Well, all right, I appreciate the call. I mean, like
the it's real, like like they the actual you know,
cap strain that they're in is a is a real thing.
I mean, it's it's not it's something that they've done,
you know, they they've they've kind of gone for it
and and it didn't work. And now they're going to

(38:27):
be sitting here and they got they got a lot
of money that tied up to you know, other players
that are that are you know, they have been pushing
the can down the road and that this is kind
of where they are. I mean, the top ten players
on their on their cap hit this year, I mean
one of them is is Tyron Smith, one of them
is Michael Gallup. You know, they they they made some

(38:48):
moves there. So and next year is going to be
kind of the same. You're going to see Tank Lawrence
on the books. You'll see Zach Martin, Brandon Cooks, whether
they're on this team or not. That that's a thing.
So yeah, I think that there's still ways to do things.
You can get kind of get tricky. I know Rob
from Vegas talked last week about it one hundred million,

(39:10):
ninety one hundred million, that those numbers just aren't aren't accurate.
And honestly, I don't think the players that that you'd
have to push to to to get to that number.
I don't think you want to extend them because you
probably don't love the fact that Michael Gallup is counting
on the books this year. You know, I actually saw
Michael Gallup at the gas station. Uh, just right before

(39:31):
I was going on the plane. I almost ran him over,
be honest with He kind of gave me a weird look,
and you know, sorry, he didn't really see who I was.
But that's I don't know what he's doing, but I
know he's counting about six million on the cap. You
don't want that, you don't, You don't. We don't want that.
And there there will be guys that if you did
that too, you you would be like, why are we
doing this? Why aren't we just getting rid of him?

(39:52):
Why aren't we replacing him? You certainly don't want to
extend him out. And I'm talking you know, guys like
that in that boat are like Malik Cooker and Terrence Steel,
Trayvon Diggs, Donovan Wilson. I don't think those are the
guys that you want to push out. Now. Yeah, you
could do it to Dak and CD, and you have to, probably,
but not to that to that point there, let's take

(40:14):
another break here on Cowboys storyline. We'll be right back
to answer a couple more to finish the.

Speaker 14 (41:51):
Nick?

Speaker 6 (41:52):
Good day?

Speaker 4 (41:52):
Right, beautiful, great day, great day.

Speaker 8 (41:55):
We one. I don't care that it's storming and right
in here, right now, it's a great, great day.

Speaker 4 (41:59):
Well, if it's an I don't want.

Speaker 8 (42:00):
To break the kool aid, but I don't.

Speaker 5 (42:01):
I don't.

Speaker 8 (42:02):
I'm not making it yet.

Speaker 4 (42:03):
Well you don't have to. I mean, you know what,
it's already in your system. You don't have to keep
drinking it. You know, it just lives there. It's like blood.

Speaker 8 (42:12):
You're right, Maybe there's a chance we still make the playoffs. Man,
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (42:18):
There's a chance.

Speaker 6 (42:19):
It looks good, but it is not.

Speaker 4 (42:21):
It does not look good. This is not good. It
would not be good for our man. Dan Quinn in
Washington not that I care about that. I'm just saying
that would be a major collapse over there. They had
to beat Cincinnati. They had to they had to win
that game. That you win that game, now you're putting
some pressures.

Speaker 8 (42:39):
We beat the Eagles in the and I almost called
them the Redskins and the Commanders.

Speaker 4 (42:43):
I mean, they have to lose it, like right now. Well,
right now, Washington is three games up on you. Washington's
the last playoff team. There are three games up on
the Cowboys with three to go.

Speaker 8 (42:54):
So yeah, it's not looking good. I'm still hopeful, man,
I still hope we make it.

Speaker 4 (42:59):
It'd be great.

Speaker 8 (43:00):
I want that thirty second pick in the draft.

Speaker 4 (43:02):
Okay, yeah, that would be cool.

Speaker 6 (43:06):
All right.

Speaker 8 (43:06):
Hey, man, I gotta say last thing. I always love
watching Greg Olsen call the games.

Speaker 5 (43:12):
First.

Speaker 8 (43:12):
I don't know why, but I think he just seems
to enjoy our team, and there aren't always a whole
lot of announcers that are like that. I wonder if
he wanted to be a Cowboy back in the day.

Speaker 4 (43:21):
I don't know, I don't know. I mean, do you
get that since Sunday? Did you get that watching it?

Speaker 8 (43:26):
Because except all the stupid talking about trade and Micah.

Speaker 4 (43:30):
Well, I actually heard him. I actually heard him talking
to some people up in the press box. I heard
him talking to people. He's like, yeah, I got this game,
this game, and then I'll be back. He's talking to
someone about because I guess he lives there still. He was,
you know, with the Panthers for so long. So the
fact that you say it seems like he liked calling
the cowboy game win. In reality, he knows some of

(43:52):
the players on the team and Carolina knows that organization
really well and calls it home. You know, I think
that that's good. I know. I know Akeman gets you know,
criticized a lot because he's not a cowboy, you know,
Homer when it comes, you know, he's not. And I
think I think Greg Olsen does a really good job.
I think he's really really good. I think that team

(44:15):
is as about as good that Yeah, no, no, I'm
talking about I'm talking about the team, is it Joe Davis?
Is that Joe Davis and Olsen? They're really good. They're
really good. And you know, we all know what happened
with Fox and Brady just jumps into it. But but
they they've they've done a really good job.

Speaker 8 (44:35):
So all right, all right, Robbie about the cowboys, Vick,
we'll talk to you man.

Speaker 4 (44:39):
All right here, we're good Robbie. All right, let's go
from Robbie to Rob in Las Vegas. We know where
ve Yeah, I'm good man. How are you excited your
party last night? Vegas never sleeps.

Speaker 6 (45:02):
No.

Speaker 7 (45:02):
Vegas made a lot of money yesterday because everybody bet Dallas.
I cannot believe Carolina would favored. We should have all
bet the mortgage on the on the Carolina is awful.

Speaker 4 (45:14):
Agreed, Agreed. I actually wrote my column about that. I
don't know if you saw that, but I actually said,
let's just as a reminder to fans, if it's a
three point line, it doesn't mean the Panthers are three
points better. It mean they've got a that's what they're
trying to do to try to make some money here,
because and they didn't. Yeah, there's no way.

Speaker 7 (45:34):
I think they I think they were counting on and
I kind of thought it may happen. Is a little
letdown from the cowboys. Yeah, pretty much gone. And I
think that's what they figured. Carolina looked good against Kansas City.

Speaker 4 (45:47):
But and that's all fair. Those are fair assumptions. I
thought maybe Carolina would play better than that, and I
thought the Cowboys might be flat after that, the way
they lost. But yeah, it was you know, I give
the Cowboys credit for that. They they didn't they did
not do that, and especially when it's cold like that
and you got players that you know, and it wasn't
bitter cold, but it's still it's not comfortable. And those

(46:10):
are just the type of games that when it doesn't matter,
you're like, uh, well, you didn't see it. You did
not see that from from that team.

Speaker 7 (46:17):
I thought, what was great to see, But we'll see
what happens in the future. Is Rico has established himself
as a number one back. It just goes to show
when the offensive line plays good, a lot of backs
could look good. I think Rico now has taken genty
as he's not a priority in round one, So if

(46:39):
if they have a chance to get a really good
pass rusher, I think they would go that route, sign
Rico and then go get a running back later on,
which I think is a good problem. Yeah, but the
guy that played great as Osa, he's been good all year.
It's funny when these guys are looking to get paid
how it's just the game really looks easy. Now we're

(47:02):
going to test the Cowboys theory now because they love
to say we love to sign our own. Where there
you go, guys, you're drafted. We talked about the salary cap. Yeah, yes,
take a free up eighty one million dollars. Immediately by
pushing dack CD they got to carry over of twenty
three million, so that's eighty one million dollars.

Speaker 6 (47:22):
Now.

Speaker 7 (47:23):
I don't think they're gonna do I think what's gonna
happen in the next week or two because I see
them losing the next three if Philadelphia is playing for
the number one seed, and if Washington's you know, has
to win, and because I know Tampa Bay is playing
for something, I think. I'm not positive. I think they're
going to sign Mike McCartney to a three year extension

(47:47):
because why would you set up the head coach to
fail the new guy? Because Mike McCarty, for whatever reason,
if he was smart, he would walk because they set
him up for failure this year, and they're already gonna
try to set them up for failure next year. If
they're really gonna do what they say they gotta do
by not using the free agency money that they'll have available.

(48:10):
Like Irene said, Steven's already talking crap about Micah. This
is they pulled this all the time. It's like when
you run for president and all of a sudden they
come out of the woodwork from twenty five years ago.
Oh this guy did this. That's what they do to
these players. And I just don't get it. These are
the best players in the league. I'm gonna stand doing
it to some average guy. But if Micah has approved

(48:33):
nothing to you by now, he should walk. He should
he should want to get out. So I just think
McCarthy's gonna sign. I know the fans like them. Some
fans they bomb My one thing. When Mike McCarthy is
number one, he's only got one playoff win, that's it.
And to me, he was brought in to be better
than Jason Garrett and he has not been. So that's

(48:56):
why I want him gone.

Speaker 6 (48:58):
You know.

Speaker 7 (48:58):
It was funny. My father was watching a game with
me and he said, he said to me, he says,
why do you want to get rid of Mike McCarthy.
Who else is out there that's better? And it was
the play where it was third and one and Cooper
Rush tried to do some rollout and he fumbled and
I said, that's why why. I just pointed to the
TV and I said, that's why I want him.

Speaker 4 (49:19):
God, so we last well.

Speaker 8 (49:23):
But that's my prediction.

Speaker 7 (49:25):
I think you gets a three year extension either this
week or next week.

Speaker 4 (49:32):
Okay, wow, I'd be surprised by that. Thanks for the call, Rob.
I don't know about about the extension in the middle
of this or not the middle season, but with the
season still going on, I don't know. If I see that,
and I'll say this, I don't think Stephen Jones is
this isn't throwing out daggers at at Micah Parsons. Maybe

(49:56):
this is a part of the negotiation part because Mike
has been negotiating too. Now, you know through the media
it's don't act let's don't act like it's not happening.
Both ways, Mike has been negotiating. He's been saying all
the right things. Michael wants to get paid, like the
highest paid defensive player that's ever played, and the Cowboys

(50:20):
don't want to pay probably that number that they don't
you know, so, but I don't I he's gonna get
signed in my opinion, I believe that everything that you said,
like I hear it, I still I will not. I
will just believe it when I see it that they
let a player like this that fell into their lap

(50:40):
with the twelfth overall pick a player like this who
plays the way he does the way he played the
other day. Now, I'm just I'll believe it when I
see it. If the Cowboys let him walk, I'm sorry,
he's one of those figure it out, Figure it out, man,
figure it out. Try to hope that you draft some
other good play around it for for cheap, but you

(51:02):
get a guy like him, I'm not letting him go.
That's that's just me and I don't. I don't know
if Jerry will either. I have not seen Jerry actually
do that in his career. So we'll we'll we'll see
what happens. And and and don't throw the herschel Walker
stuff out there that that's that was a team that
I mean, that was a different time, different era. You're

(51:23):
not gonna get that. You're not going to get that
type of of of return investment on a player like that.
I think what's gonna what will help you the most
is build around him with the scheme and the players,
because he plays like he's playing here when he's healthy
and he's he's an animal. He's an he's a lion.
That's really what he what he calls himself. All Right,
great show, guys, appreciate it. Uh, it's been a lot

(51:45):
of fun. We will do it again tomorrow, so a
different time on Tuesday, different time. Just just to let
people know, we're going to actually move back two hours
to noon Central time just for tomorrow's show. It's gonna
be kind of different all week long with different times.
Just know that Tuesday show will not be at ten Central,

(52:06):
it will be at noon, so changing spots with mix shots,
so if you turn it on see mix shots. No,
they haven't replaced this, just switching the days for Tuesday
on December seventeenth. That's for that schedule. But for this show,
it's been a lot of fun. We'll see you again
tomorrow on Cowboys Storyline see it.
