Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome into a week eleven Giants Hangout, brought to you
by Cresstrawn. My name is Madeline Burke, joined as always
by Russ Salzburg, Matt Sytek, and the Super Bowl champ
Jonathan Cassius. Guys, you know, getting into week eleven, of course,
they've got to start with the big news around the
Giants facility.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Russ.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
The Giants made a coaching change. Brian Dable no longer
the head coach. Mike Kafka will serve as the interim.
What's your immediate reaction to this.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
Well, I mean my immediate reaction is that it stinks.
I mean, you know, it's easy for fans and people
outside to say and mediate people to say, oh, fire
this guy, fire that guy. Maybe it's cause we're closer
to the situation, but when you fire somebody, a lot
of times an attire staff gets fired. That could be
up to twenty people. They are lives, there are people

(00:45):
that are affected. All that that said, it's two and
eight and nobody could tell you. Brian dabele knew at
two and eight it was going to happen. He just
knew what was going to happen. And it's not a
question of he knew, but like how it was happening.
There were too many of those fourth quarter collapses, and

(01:05):
it's unfortunate. I also think, for lack of a better term,
Brian Dable was a victim of bad luck. I mean,
we we're watching a Denver game, We're watching a Bears game,
and for three quarters we're Roland. We're thinking, well, what
a great victory this is going to be. I'm saying
to myself in Chicago, tough, gritty win. You know who knew?

(01:25):
And when I say bad luck, who knew? For example,
nobody's talking about it. And we love Jamie Gillen. Jamie
Gillen had the worst game of his career.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
Yeah, yeah, unfortunately kickoff. Yeah there.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
As far as I'm concerned now, I'm very glad that
it's put in Mike Kafke's hands. I think Mike is
a very smart guy. I think listen, he was close
on a couple of head coaching interviews. I think he's bright.
I think the players respond to him. I think it
will continue to help in the growth of Jackson Dart

(02:02):
and let's see what happens. And you know, I've got
a lot, Yeah, we've got a.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
Lot of that will will be unfolding in the coming weeks.
There's a season because see it's like as a as
a player, how does this shake up the locker room?

Speaker 4 (02:16):
What definitely shakes up the locker room? You know when
you get to this point of the season, not just
the coaches, but the players are like, man like, you know,
what's my staying power here for this franchise? You know,
they got rid of the head coach. You know, they
might have feelt like they had a great relationship with
day Ball. When you have relationships with coaches, all right,
you feel a little bit more, you know, safer about

(02:38):
your job, you know, situation.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
You know.

Speaker 4 (02:40):
And I used to always say this for us. People
just be like, you know, how's it like playing in
the NFL? And I'm like, my job security is this
Peyton Manning was the best player in the NFL and
got cut. This is this is my go to point
because it's the truth. It's what have you done for
me lately? NFL stands for not for long, you know,
And at the end of the day, you have to
be a productive team. Right the team hasn't been productive

(03:02):
two and eight, you know, the last three years after
starting you know, the whole Joe Shane and Brian Dabo
tenure at a nine to seven to one playoff winning team,
which the Giants haven't done in over ten years since
they went to the Super Bowl. So the Giants had
to figure out something because the things just wasn't working.
So as a you know, a guy that played in

(03:23):
the NFL for nine years, that played for four different teams,
all the players could do is to try to go
out and practice and give it they're all and try
to go out there and play better than they have
been playing. You know again, same mistakes guys that I'm
watching week after week. Yes, it's the fourth quarter, but
it's stuff that leads up to it. Luckily, Chicago dropped
a lot of passes throughout the game, right, I think

(03:45):
Zaki has had four dropped, maybe three himself, not including
you know more and the other guys that had dropped passes.
The game could have got out of control a lot earlier,
but the Giants fought, They held you know the whole time,
and get that quarterback down. Caleb Williams man and he
was Houdini on Sunday, you know, and I watched the

(04:06):
game over I was like why you.

Speaker 3 (04:07):
Couldn't do it.

Speaker 4 (04:07):
It's very difficult to do it when you have a
guy like that that just has this innate ability to
make someone miss that's running at them full speed. Not
everyone can do it, but he does it, and he
did it to a high level guys.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
And the two times they did do it, we saw
Dexter Lawrence get a sack negated by a penaltyalts Duel
Carter get a sack negated by a penalty penal.

Speaker 4 (04:30):
But again, Madeline, that's the same thing we've been seeing
all year out leveraged on defense, gap discipline on the perimeter,
analedy's stopping big plays on defense. That's literally what we've
seen all year.

Speaker 3 (04:41):
If I can, oh, I just want to say one thing.
Jact brought up a point with Howard. You asked how
it affects the locker room. Well, you know what, a
head coach just lost his job. So all those guys
in the locker room need to take a good look
in the mirror and say, Okay, somebody lost the job.

(05:01):
What's where's my responsibility? Like right right exactly us now,
Because a guy group's.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
Effort is a team effort and they got to turn
things around, because at two and eight, I don't think
any of those guys in the locker room are thinking
this is what I have worked hard for. But Matt,
you know talking about you know, the play on the field,
big storyline of the game. Week ten, Jackson Dark goes
out with a concussion. Unclear where he stands going into
week eleven against Green Bay, but you know he does

(05:30):
continue to impress. What have you seen from Jackson Dark's
growth and what are your questions going into week eleven
at the quarterback position?

Speaker 5 (05:38):
Yeah, well, it's kind of a shame that all of
this other stuff happened starting with you know this another
fourth quarter collapse, and then obviously this the big news,
the head coaching change, because that kind of outshines or
takes the attention away from how well Jackson Dart was
playing prior to him suffering the concussion.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
He completed sixty.

Speaker 5 (05:58):
Five percent of his passes two hundred forty two yards,
continued to be an absolute threat with his legs. I
mean another two rushing touchdowns sixty six yards, averaging eleven
yards per carry.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
He was playing phenomenal football.

Speaker 5 (06:11):
It wasn't perfect by any means, but for a rookie
quarterback in his what seventh start, he was playing great football,
and that's kind of just being like, no one is
talking about that now because obviously he went on and
suffered the concussion. You know, the few players. Concussions are
different for every single player across the NFL. The three
players for the Giants that have suffered a concussion this

(06:33):
season have went on to miss the next game. Now,
that doesn't mean Jackson is for sure gonna miss the Sunday.
I mean, we just saw last week the Bears tight
end Cole Komet suffered a concussion, was cleared four days
later and played against the Giants on Sunday. So it's
not certain that he will miss, but there is I
would say a decent chance that Jackson Dart is unable

(06:55):
to go out there. And then the question becomes, I
guess who's started under center for the Giants. Do they
go back to Russell Wilson, do they give Jameis Winston
his first start of the season.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
You know, that's going to be probably the biggest storyline
to keep an eye on over the next couple of days.
I'm sure that'll be the first question.

Speaker 5 (07:13):
Mike Kfka or one of the first questions that Mike
Kafka is asked when he speaks to the media on Wednesday.
We're filming this on Tuesday, so it remains to be seen.
But regardless of who is starting under center, they're going
to have an incredibly difficult matchup against this Green Bay
Packers defense.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
I mean, we just saw the Packers.

Speaker 5 (07:31):
Yeah, against the Eagles high flying offense, and they held
him to ten points.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
It was a very close year.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
There wasn't a touchdown in that Monday night game until
ten and a half minutes left.

Speaker 2 (07:41):
In the fourth quarter.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
Because he is when you look at the defense that
we put saw on display. But again, a defensive game
is one that plays to the Packers weaknesses. Every game
they've lost this season, they've scored thirteen or fewer points.
So if defense can prevail, that works in favor of
the opposing team in Packers game, Jaycy.

Speaker 4 (08:00):
When I think of the Packers, not to say I
don't think about their defense, because especially they got Michael
Parsisons too, but I think about their offense and how
dangerous they are on offense, and how capable Love is
and distributing the ball as well as he does, and
when you watch the game last night, Monday Night Football
against the Eagles. For me, it was exciting because it
was it was some good defense. I know, you guys

(08:20):
are I was a boring game. It was a good
defensive game and a guy like Love. I think in
the first half he only had like six six completions
and it was like two or three minutes left in
the first half. Excuse me, six attempts I'm sorry, two
of six with like six minutes left or something like
that in the first half. That is not like the
green Bay Packers. That is not like Jordan Love. They

(08:42):
have lost two straight so this is a must win
game for them. This is a huge game for them
on their schedule. Yes, it's against the lowly two innate Giants,
but the Giants might have some new life here with
the you know, transitioning of the coach over to Kafka.
So the Giants I think are dangerous team right now.

Speaker 3 (09:00):
Now.

Speaker 4 (09:00):
For Green Bay to be traveling on the road after
two losses against a tough NFC team and the Eagles
on a Monday night short week, right got to travel.
So this puts a lot of pressure on this offense
for the green Bay Packers. Who've been a high flying
offense right all season, and then they went up against
a brick wall against the Eagles, and now they got

(09:20):
to go across town to go against this lowly Giants team.
Not to say it's its prap game because they're coming
off a couple of losses, but this is a big
challenge for Green Bay. And the way that the Giants
defense gets after quarterbacks, I think this bodes well. It's
all about matchups here, right, guys.

Speaker 1 (09:38):
And how they can finish too, because you mentioned getting
after the quarterback. We saw, you know, against Caleb Williams,
maybe getting hands on them, not bringing him down. Maybe
the Giants need to finish in week eleven, Russ, what's
your key to this game?

Speaker 3 (09:50):
Well, you just said, you know, finish. I mean we
all sound like broken records because we've discussed this time
and time again though, like all Simpatago here, no no,
but but it's it's finish, finish, finish, and make your tackles,
make tackles. There was one particular play and I'm sure

(10:11):
you people are gonna agree with me. Uh DeAndre Swift
was running with the ball and they had to make
a stop. I think it was like fourth and two
and it was Demetrius Flattagan fouls nailed them, like, just
nailed them. He ends up moving off. I think him

(10:32):
and flot were in on it. The Swift gets a
first down. Subsequently, it didn't matter because they ended up
not scoring on the next set. But make your tackles
and finish your plays. And that's been the thing on
defense the entire season. Finish your plays. They just haven't
been doing it, and it's cast somebody a job.

Speaker 1 (10:52):
Yeah, gotta finish your plays, gotta close out, and gotta
finish games, not just you know, the play, but the
quarter all. But you know what, we got a lot
to learn, not just how to finish plays, but also
maybe a little bit of trivia this week, Russ, what
do you know?

Speaker 3 (11:07):
What do you say? What do we got? What do
you know? What do you say? Okay, man, only here
we go. In two thousand and seven, the NFC Championship
Game was played at frigid lambeau Field in Green Bay.
All right, and lack of a better term, I was
there freezing my butt off. Okay. The Giants, as we know,

(11:28):
beat the Pack in overtime twenty three to twenty. Ahmad
Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs scored the touchdowns for the Giants.
My question to you people who scored the two touchdowns
for the Packers in that game. All right, and I'll
go ahead. Do you need a hint?

Speaker 4 (11:49):
Going? Donald Driver?

Speaker 3 (11:50):
Look at you, Donald Driver, Donald Driver?

Speaker 5 (11:54):
One?

Speaker 3 (11:55):
Very good. I'm impressed. Well, these guys have the same
first name, Donald Lee Bingo.

Speaker 4 (12:06):
Nice, missus.

Speaker 3 (12:09):
I am very very impressed. Mad. I don't love when I.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
Wrote watching a lot of Vikings games, I will say so, yeah,
Vikings Packers.

Speaker 3 (12:19):
Nice.

Speaker 4 (12:19):
I would have never gotten that.

Speaker 1 (12:22):
Oh I remember that because you said the same player,
I'm like, what other Packer was?

Speaker 3 (12:25):
Donald? And then yeah, but I would My my hint
was going to be the same first name as a
Disney character who goes quack. But well, anyway, since you
guys were so good with this, I'm going to give
you a bonus question. Oh right, name the two giants
in that game who had interceptions.

Speaker 1 (12:49):
Two thousand and seven.

Speaker 4 (12:51):
Webster that's one, yes, yeah, go ahead, Webster intro role.

Speaker 6 (13:00):
No no, no no, and R W R W mccutters
very good, very good, nice man.

Speaker 3 (13:12):
That's that's a home. That's a touchdown. That's what that
is all right?

Speaker 1 (13:17):
What do you know? What do you say? Look at
us learning and evolving the more you know? Right, all right,
Giants Packers Week eleven. Let's get some game predictions on
the books. First of all, the Giants gonna score over
under two and a half touchdowns for the New York
Football Giants, sidetach, what do you say, oh.

Speaker 5 (13:36):
After last night's performance against the Eagles, this is tough.
I think it kind of depends on who is starting
at quarterback. You know, it's if it's Jameis Winston, I
feel a little more confident in saying over two and
a half. If it's back to Russell Wilson, I would
lean more towards the under.

Speaker 2 (13:55):
Which I feel like that right there says all you
need to know about. Maybe which direction this? You know,
if the offense needs a spark, which way maybe you
go with? So we don't know what.

Speaker 5 (14:06):
Right now, So I'm gonna I'm gonna go with under,
assuming that it is Russell Wilson that quarterback.

Speaker 3 (14:13):
Okay, Russ, I agree with Matt and that you don't
know who the quarterback is going to be. I mean,
if it was you know, also, I meant to say
this before Malin and it's not taking a shot in anybody.
If it was left up to me, if Jackson can't go,
I would go with Jamis if for no other reason,

(14:36):
Jamis is going to be here next year as the backup.
Uh Russell will not be here. Jamis is going to
be here, so we might as well have him do it.
But what what was it? It was? How many touchdowns?
I don't even man wish wishful think. I'm going, yeah,

(14:58):
I'm gonna say over wishful.

Speaker 1 (14:59):
Thinking, go get some points on the board. Jac what
you got?

Speaker 4 (15:03):
No, I want to be wishful as well, but I can't.
I'm such a realistic person.

Speaker 3 (15:08):
Guys.

Speaker 4 (15:08):
I'm sorry, You're right, I just I don't. I think
we all want James. I just don't think he will
get to start. I think I gotta go under on
this one. And it's sad to say, because that's not
a lot of points, you know what I'm saying, Like
you know, but they haven't really proved it to us.

(15:30):
Dart did, but Russell I don't know if he can
do that. And I don't even know if Jameis Winster
can do it, because how much Tom has he had
with this offense.

Speaker 1 (15:39):
Right, Well, we saw Russell do it week two in Dallas.

Speaker 4 (15:43):
You know it's not that Dallas defense is so far.

Speaker 1 (15:48):
Again any given day, any given.

Speaker 4 (15:52):
This is true.

Speaker 3 (15:52):
Indeed, Food, I'm.

Speaker 1 (15:54):
Just I'm just I'm just saying that. So you're telling
me there's a chance kind of situation, right, what was
a one in a million talk? You know, these are
two very different quarterbacks. It's also going to look different
because Mike Kafka's at the helm this week, so a
lot of things are different. Over under two and a
half total touchdowns, I'd like to say over because I'd
like to say that this team is going to be

(16:16):
playing with a little bit of a spark, a little
bit of chip, and like you guys leaded to JC,
you said, hey, you know sometimes these players are going
to be looking in the mirror and saying, oh, nothing
is certain. I better level it up myself. I do
believe that every man on this team is going to
do that, and this could just be one of those
games where there's a spark and I'm going to take
the over. But the question is who's going to score them?

(16:37):
Who's going to be the Giants leading receiver? Russ, who
do you think is going to be the go to
target for whomever it is.

Speaker 3 (16:43):
At quarterback Giants leading receivers, man, I mean, who's going
to be healthy. You know, Fortunately we got to see
Darius Slayton rebound from a couple of bad performances, So
I mean leading receiver Slayton one Dale, I'm gonna I'm

(17:06):
gonna go with Darius. You know, I thinking about THEO. Uh,
you know what they're gonna you know what they're gonna
use for the the tight end in their scheme. But
I'll go with Darius Sidetach.

Speaker 2 (17:22):
I am gonna go with Wandell Robinson.

Speaker 5 (17:25):
He's kind of stepped up as the number one receiver
since Malik Neighbors went down. You know, THEO Johnson's been
playing absolutely great, but you know, his rise in production
coincided with Jackson taking over at quarterback. And so if
Jackson's not gonna be out there, you go back to
the beginning of the season. You know, Russell Wilson wasn't
throwing to THEO that much the first three weeks of

(17:46):
the season, so he was throwing and because Darius, you know,
I know, he returned to the game, but he did
suffer an injury last week, so he may not be
one hundred percent. Wandell seems to be at least closer
to one hundred percent.

Speaker 2 (17:58):
I'm gonna go with Wandell.

Speaker 4 (18:00):
I agree with you, Matt. Yeah, I'm on the same
page of Matt. I think is that your favorite player, Matt,
because I feel like the times we've spoken, you have
like a nice little gloss in your eyes when you
talk about I just.

Speaker 2 (18:12):
Think he's very, very underrated. I think he's, you know,
does whatever the team needs to do.

Speaker 1 (18:17):
And he does. He does have a Kobe tattoo right here,
so he's got that mambaman.

Speaker 3 (18:21):
I don't know that.

Speaker 4 (18:22):
But he plays like it.

Speaker 5 (18:23):
Man.

Speaker 4 (18:23):
He's not a big dude at all, but he plays
a violent game at wide receiver. He likes the tackles
he plays. He plays a very physical game. And the
thing is, when you have a guy that plays in
a slot a lot, I don't know how much slot
reps he'll get given the injury, you know, at the
wide receiver position for the New York Giants. That puts
him in the realm of my people, the linebackers, and

(18:46):
he's just he's just a matchup nightmare for guys like
us because he's very quick, gets in and out of
his cuts, and it's an easy target between the ashes
and the numbers for the quarterback to kind of hit
him with tight ends are available. But I think Wandale
has emerged as that guy, and he's doing very well
compared to not just the Giants receivers, but other slot

(19:08):
receivers throughout the NFL. I think he's like top two
or three in terms of all around slot receivers in
the NFL.

Speaker 1 (19:16):
I like it. I like it all right. So if
the Giants win this game, they will need to.

Speaker 2 (19:22):
What Sidejack Oh? I got two parts.

Speaker 5 (19:26):
One which I feel like is every single week a
theme slow down the run game for the opposing team.

Speaker 2 (19:33):
Josh Jacobs.

Speaker 5 (19:34):
They love feeding him. He's the focal point of their offense.
As good as Jordan Love and those pass catchers are.
They want to feed Josh Jacobs. In an ideal world,
they give him, you know, twenty twenty five carries, so
just slow him down, don't let him be the one
to you know, wreck you. And then the second part
is win the turnover battle. The last two weeks the
Packers lost those. These last two games, they've lost the

(19:57):
turnover battle. Every week that they have won the turnover battle,
which has been three times, they are three to zero.
So force a couple of takeaways, you know, protect the
ball on offense, and maybe you sneak out of w here.

Speaker 1 (20:09):
All right, Casie, what do they mean?

Speaker 4 (20:11):
I agree with Syetech in terms of the run. Of course,
I'm a defensive guy. And every time I look at
those stats at the end, it's a sight again, it
didn't like it hits a deserve, you know, every single time.
Josh Jacobs is a tremendous running back guys, and I
think when you want to have a quarterback to have success,

(20:34):
you don't think about getting the quarterback to throw the
ball better. You think about establishing a run a little
bit sooner. And the Giants just haven't been able to
slow down anyone really in terms of stopping the run.
So I agree with Matt and stopping the run and
then finish the game, win, lose or draw. I want
to see the Giants finishing the game stronger because the

(20:56):
Giants have started fast. Right even when Russell Wilson played
in Dallas, the Giants scored a lot of points that game,
but they didn't finish not good fourth quarter, not a
good overtime. I don't care how the game goes in
terms of the EBB and floor of the game. I
would like to see the Giants finish the game.

Speaker 1 (21:13):
Finish it, Russ key to the game. If the Giants win,
they'll need to blank.

Speaker 3 (21:19):
Here we go again, madam. If if the Giants win
the game is what I said earlier on. They need
to finish plays. Finish plays, you finish the game. What
they also need to do with talking about stopping the
run of the Packers, the Giants need to generate some
running early on, where they didn't in the last game.

(21:39):
You saw it. You Tracy started picking it up in
the second half, but early on, and again we don't
know who the quarterback is. So if you want to
give the quarterback whoever, it's going to be some help.
We need to establish a run as well. So it's
on both sides of the line.

Speaker 1 (21:54):
Absolutely, they need to finish plays. They need to finish drives,
they need to finish tackles, and we need to finish
the show. Because the Giants taking on the Packers, those
cheeseheads coming into MetLife Stadium.

Speaker 3 (22:06):
What do you think that is?

Speaker 1 (22:07):
That Swiss Gudha parmesan.

Speaker 4 (22:11):
Ooh, it's a it's an orange cheddar ish. But then
it has like holes like Swiss cheese, right, yeah.

Speaker 3 (22:21):
I think it's Swiss. Swiss. Yeah, And anybody who wears
that on their head, it's got to be Swiss because
they have to have a hole in their head to
wear that. So I'll go with that.

Speaker 1 (22:33):
Technically, the hole is in the cheese. You know, I
see where you're doing. Wiscon's fans gotta be lactose, super
tolerant for all that cheddar Impressed with the digestive system
of all those cheese curds. But you know what, let's
go Giants hosting the Packers Sunday at MetLife Stadium. That's

(22:54):
a rep for a week. Eleven Giants Hangout, brought to
you by C Restaurant for russ Alsburg, Matt Sidetak and
the Super Bowl champ Jonathan can see as m Madeleine
Burke will see you next time.

Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
