Speaker 1 (00:02):
Jordan and Jake.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
You're good. I'm ignited, ready to go home. Stops He
throws at a crossfield. Guess who, George Grosse.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
Here are your Panther Hall of Honor remembers. Jordan Gross
and Jake Delome.

Speaker 4 (00:20):
Jake Dilone, Jordan Gross, Jordan and Jake Podcast. I'm the
host evidently, so that's why it's Jordan and Jake.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Jake.

Speaker 4 (00:28):
How you doing, buddy?

Speaker 2 (00:28):
I'm doing well, Jordan. I can't complain. I it's a
new week.

Speaker 3 (00:33):
We really know how much to talk about, and so
you know, I'm just kind of searching for things to
talk about it.

Speaker 4 (00:39):
Yes, that's kind I'm gonna start off with some good news.
Are you ready for that?

Speaker 2 (00:42):
I'm very ready for that.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
Just hit the that just came out. We got the
email from David Langton, our boss here at Panthers headquarters.
Congratulations of Panthers that made the one hundred and sixty
seven era players nominated for the Pro Football Hall of
Fame Class twenty twenty five. Me you, Luke Keighley, Eugene Robinson,

(01:08):
the whole radio team made the list.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
Well, that's awesome.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
And then other former Panthers Khalil Mohammad, Steve Smith, Wesley Walls,
Jared Allen, John Casey. So you and I, it's been
common for us to be in this list, and then
we've said it many times we don't make the cut.

Speaker 4 (01:27):
And that's not a humble thing. It's just true.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
We're not going to make the cut because we had
wonderful careers but not enough. But now we're getting to
make the Pro Bowl. In my opinion, Luke Keigley, though
he's got a shot right off the bat. But if
Patrick Willis is any indication it's a similar career, I
have to wait a few years and then Steve obviously
he's up there. But Khalil, he's an interesting one.

Speaker 4 (01:53):
Five Pro Bowls and All Pro a time or two.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
What do you think, man, certainly I'll have my palm
palms on, you know, cheering.

Speaker 3 (02:05):
I Yeah, well, I think we've all I've discussed numerous
times how I feel about the whole Steve situation.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
But yeah, Luke, that's one that.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
Yeah, I feel very good when Patrick Willis got in
for Luke's chances, and I do know, especially at that time,
you know, Cam was Luke got drafted the year after Cam, so.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
A lot of eyes were on the Carolinas and so
there were.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
Some big games, nationally televised games, certainly the Super Bowl,
and Luke was dominant from the get go.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
So well, Khalil.

Speaker 4 (02:45):
Two time first team All Pro, one time second team
All Pro, five time Pro Bowl. That's not bad.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
That's not bad.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
I think we know he was the elite center in
my opinion, whenever we had him.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
So yeah, I'm anxious to see.

Speaker 3 (03:00):
It's so anxious just to look at some of the
voting and things like that, kind of shake.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
Your head on a couple of them and not just
being homers, you.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
Know, I just kind of scratched my head, like really,
I mean, I don't know, I just always felt a
pro bowler.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Do you game plan around that guy?

Speaker 3 (03:16):
I mean, there's certain guys that are in, and I've
always said we didn't game plan for him. That was
never we didn't really worry about that person and they
get in. So yeah, it's always interesting.

Speaker 4 (03:29):
Well, we'll see.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
This is a good segue though, because I went to
California this last weekend, had a bye week for my
high school team, so we went and saw my son
down in California at college. Went to Ryan Khalils. He's
the head football coach of a ten U tackle football
team called the Manhattan Beach Stingrays.

Speaker 4 (03:49):
Okay, just started.

Speaker 1 (03:51):
This team joined in the league down there, and I
got to watch him.

Speaker 4 (03:55):
It was a star studded roster. Do you want to
hear some of the significant thing.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
I would like to some of the stars.

Speaker 4 (04:01):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
So the Los Angeles Chargers, a lot of the Chargers
live in the area.

Speaker 4 (04:06):
So Nick Hartwig, do you remember him? He was a
center for the Chargers.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
He's on the sideline this weekend.

Speaker 4 (04:12):
He's on staff with the Chargers now.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
And so he is.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
His son is the quarterback, okay, and he is a
fireball of a football player, like pumping up the crowd.

Speaker 4 (04:24):
Big hit.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
He played defense too, big hits through some nice passes
to this really tall slender receiver who just so happens
to be Blake Griffin's son.

Speaker 4 (04:33):
The basketball player.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
Probably can't jump at all, probably.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
No bad athlete for sure. So he was there at
defensive tackle. They had Vern vaugh son of Vince vond
the actor.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
Okay, so there you go.

Speaker 4 (04:47):
That was and all these people were in attendance. And
then in the next the next team that eleven.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
You the quarterback for that team is Jim Harbaugh's son,
So there you go.

Speaker 4 (04:56):
Yes, But as you would as.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
You would imagine, the brand on Ryan Khalil's football team
was to the nines. Dude, like socks matched. Everybody's uniform
looked perfect fit, just right. They had like shade structure
on the sideline with the brand and the logo and
the kids ran out and the flag with a stingray
on it.

Speaker 4 (05:14):
It was impressive.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
I love it. Now, what position does.

Speaker 4 (05:20):
Kid?

Speaker 1 (05:20):
Khalil? Number sixty seven and defensive ends? He did a
nice job. It's funny. After the game, I was like,
why'd you end up with sixty seven? That's kind of
a weird number. He's like, well, it was my dad's number.

Speaker 4 (05:34):
I thaid, oh, yeah, that's right. Oh no, I was
glad to see him.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
Yeah, I have a feeling he was going to have
his hand in the ground. And what I mean by that.

Speaker 3 (05:42):
Yeah, one day, we're starting to do quarterback center exchange
and I needed to get loose for a second, so
I threw a ball to Khalil. He caught it and
he threw it back and I said, do that again.
He goes what I said I need to see you throw.
He said, don't even start with me.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
I said, what do you mean? Said?

Speaker 3 (05:59):
My dad saw me throw it one time when I
was five and said, hey, don't ever do that again.
Your hand's gonna be on the ground. You'll never put
your hand on the ball on a ball besides the
snap it. So, yeah, I was his dad knew from
early on.

Speaker 4 (06:12):
No, that's funny. It was good, good going to see him.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
But youth football, we shared some We shared some coaching
points because I'm coaching my son's team as well, and
you know, they just, like Ryan said.

Speaker 4 (06:24):
They just don't do what I'm telling him to do.
I'm like, well, that's just kind of the way it goes.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
So a little bit, a little bit like you know,
maybe what Dave Canalis is saying with the Panthers right now, buddy,
So we just better get right into it. I've tried
to delay as long as I could. We're zing to
we've changed quarterbacks. You were at the game.

Speaker 4 (06:44):
I tuned in on the radio.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
We were in the car for a good bit of
Sunday or Sunday, so I listened to you guys.

Speaker 4 (06:49):
But where we asked where we're at?

Speaker 2 (06:51):
Jake come on, yeah, buddy, it was rough. I don't
think there's any doubt.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
Certainly New Orleans was rough, and it started out rough,
big touchdown pass and then a.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
Turnover right away. And this week looking to see something different,
watching us hopefully run the ball a little more this past.

Speaker 3 (07:07):
Weekend, and we did, and I thought we ran it
fairly effectively in my eyes. I thought there was some
nice holes that our offensive line has opened up. But look,
let's get right to it. It's it's been a struggle offensively,
and certainly it's the passing game hasn't been nearly up
to par. And you could see it Sunday during the game.

(07:28):
You could kind of sense the frustration. And I think
one of the big things for me that it bothered me.
And I say bothered because I could feel for the kid,
Like I watched Bryce and I could see the body language,
and he's usually like super calm, never gets flustered, never
gets too high, too low.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
And I just watched a couple of times and it
was like.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
It's like you could just say him saying like, oh
my gosh, what else can happen wrong?

Speaker 2 (07:53):
What else can I do wrong?

Speaker 3 (07:55):
He wasn't playing and That's the thing that I struggled
with is, like, I know, last year we weren't nearly
as good upfront. I felt we have more weapons this
year receiver wise. But I watched him make plays last year.
I watched him get out of the pocket, and I
watched the accuracy on full display. And I'm not seeing
that this year, and I'm seeing him kind of, you know,

(08:16):
missing things that I know that I've seen with my
own eyes him compete complete. I've seen him throw a
couple of the quick screens that were off target, and that's.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
Something that he could do in his sleep.

Speaker 3 (08:28):
And just watching the body language, I just he felt
like it was somebody that was kind of like paralyzing themselves.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
You know.

Speaker 3 (08:35):
The term maybe I've used before is paralysis from analysis.
And I did that the latter part of my career
in Carolina. I physically I wasn't kind of myself and
you overthink too many things instead of just letting it fly.
And I broke my hand when we played up in
New York later in the season and Matt Moore played,
and it was almost a relief one for the team

(08:58):
because the offense function that or without me, because I
was I kept this hamstrung and I needed to watch
somebody else. And yes, I was older at the time.
I was dealing with some you know, probably more so
health stuff just because of age.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
But you know, watch Matt Moore go out and play
and just sling the ball around. I'm like, you know what,
I got to get back to.

Speaker 3 (09:18):
That, and I never did because the hand in heel
got released, go to Cleveland and things like that. But
I just think for someone young like him, I think
it's good to take a step back right now, because
one you have an Andy Dalton who is a pros pro.
They get along great.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
And if Brice could just I don't think it's over
here in Carolina. I don't. I don't. I don't believe
that in the least bit. But like take a step back,
watch from the sidelines, healthy, go through week, like let
let things slow down a little bit. I don't.

Speaker 3 (09:48):
I don't have an issue, Jordan, That's just me and
I think Dave made the right call. Canalis made the
right call.

Speaker 2 (09:53):
You know.

Speaker 1 (09:54):
It's funny that you know with the quarterback, it's such
a big like the benching of the quarterback such a
huge talking point other players could get. You could start
someone else, and I know, like a significant starter, like
if your starting receiver didn't start or whatever, then yeah,
that's a big story, but nothing like the quarterback. But

(10:16):
to your point, Jake, it's like, we got to work
on the longevity of this guy and a little day
off or a reset. That's why you have other quarterbacks.
That's why there's incredible value in having a veteran guy
with Andy Dalton at the backup because he can roll
in there. The guy's got eighty three wins as a
starter and almost almost as like he's almost a five

(10:37):
hundred quarterback. Eighty three wins, seventy eight losses, two ties,
one of which I think was the Panthers back in fourteen.
But he's gonna do a nice job. And it's funny
how it's working out because Week three last year at Seattle,
I actually called the game and he started that week
because Bryce was hurt, came in, did a great job, man,
And so a little injection of something different instead of oh,

(11:00):
the with the team, I have to imagine the team like,
oh Bryce, all the questions are Bryce, Bryce, Bryce Bryce.
Well you kind of get that distraction out of the
rest of the guys. Heads and all the questions and
everything too, and now we're just rolling with a veteran
so in Europe. To go off of what you said, Jake,
I don't think that it's the end. Oh, he's the best.

(11:20):
Like I you hear people talking about that stuff. It's crazy,
like how nobody knows how it's going to go. But
I think this move is excellent. It's good leadership. Hey, everybody,
let's get a win. Get something else going on week
three on a hard road game, because we're only on
week two, Jake, there's freaking fifteen more games. We got
a lot of football left, and this is a good

(11:41):
way to try to give us a chance to win.

Speaker 3 (11:44):
Yeah, Jordan, you know, did I think it would happen
this fast? You know, flying holes Sunday night, you're thinking
about it. Then Monday during morning or whatever, I'm still
thinking about the game, and I'm like, you know, I
didn't know it would.

Speaker 2 (11:57):
Be this fast. But hey, listen, can Alice give it
to him? He said, Hey, watch the film Sunday Night,
And I just think this is the best for the
team this week.

Speaker 3 (12:06):
And I know people don't like to hear that, but
it's the damn truth. It's the truth. It's the best
for the team right now. I mean, it's this week.
We need something needs to happen. Let's let's inject a
little something. And you can tell the players. I mean,
they respect the hell out of Brice and everything. It's
just it happens. And I'll go back to it. The

(12:26):
two people that a win lost record is tied to
is the head coach and the quarterback.

Speaker 2 (12:30):
It's not tied to the left tackle, it's not tied
to the right tackle, the right guard.

Speaker 3 (12:35):
The safety is the quarterback and the head coach. And
so yeah, quarterbacks can get too much credit and too
much blame. But you know that's the price of admission.
And so that's where we're at. You know, Jordan, I
tried to get in touch with Matt hasselback Monday evening.

Speaker 2 (12:53):
He was working and he was.

Speaker 3 (12:55):
Taking a red eye back and I'm waiting to talk
to him today. He got bingch he got set down
in Seattle early on, and Trent Dilfer was the backup.

Speaker 2 (13:05):
And Trent it's almost a similar situation. You know.

Speaker 3 (13:07):
Trent was one that he had won a Super Bowl,
he was the first round pick, he had had some
success and things like that, and you know, Matt had
to take a sit a seat for a little bit
because he was handed the keys to Seattle's kingdom.

Speaker 2 (13:22):
He got traded from Green Bay to Seattle, got a.

Speaker 3 (13:24):
Contract and there was a struggle and read an article,
read up on that, read an article and Matt said,
I was I didn't earn anything. It was given to me.
And he said it was the best thing for me.
I needed to sit. I needed to sit for a
little bit. And that's that's more how I'm looking at
this whole situation.

Speaker 1 (13:42):
Well, you look on social media and just kind of
following the stories and as I always do, like prepping
for our podcast, a lot of a lot of comments
and opinions about Bryce Young.

Speaker 4 (13:53):
Lebron James actually tweeted out Bryce.

Speaker 1 (13:56):
Young, hold your head up, Young, rooting for you and
no on. You continue to put in the work and
it shall prevail. So I can't imagine I say that
to say like Bryce. The mental side of this for
him is if I could speak to him and be like, man,
you need to turn your phone off, turn off your TV,
don't list, don't read, don't look at anything anybody's comments.

(14:18):
Everybody has things to say, clips to show good or bad,
like you just keep being the same guy that led
you to all your success.

Speaker 4 (14:27):
I do believe he does have good support in there.

Speaker 1 (14:29):
But Jake, talk about the impact of two seasons, not
even two seasons one and a partial. But you have
two head coaches, two offensive coordinators, two quarterback coaches, So
to say that, like the number of factors involved here
as to why we're sitting him for now, there's just

(14:52):
so much involved, Jake, And I don't think people could
understand that unless you've been it, and you've been it,
how much all of those factors have to with your success.

Speaker 2 (15:01):
No, I think it does. And and listen, I hope
coach Canalys is here for a decade, you know, and
then and Bryce can be here for a decade. We
don't know. I mean, it's so early on.

Speaker 3 (15:12):
But you're right, you know, three different play callers last
year and things like that, and some first overall pick
and and certainly the CJ. Stroud narrative will always come
into play, will always come into play because they'll be
linked together. Yeah they will, You're right, Yeah, But you
just you've got you can't worry about that. And and

(15:32):
you know, I just hope I just go back to
just watching him.

Speaker 2 (15:36):
I've seen him make some plays already.

Speaker 4 (15:39):
So how long? Well, let me ask you this.

Speaker 2 (15:41):
How long?

Speaker 4 (15:42):
Okay?

Speaker 1 (15:43):
So Andy goes in, Andy does does a great job.

Speaker 2 (15:47):
Okay, So how long?

Speaker 1 (15:49):
Like, I don't know what you do, but how does what?
How does this play out?

Speaker 2 (15:54):
You know what I mean?

Speaker 4 (15:55):
Jake?

Speaker 2 (15:55):
Like? How long?

Speaker 4 (15:56):
If Andy's playing.

Speaker 1 (15:57):
Well, you get a win or two and whatever, how
long does it play out? And if things don't go
well offensively? Then how fast do you go back to Bryce?
Let's talk scenarios.

Speaker 3 (16:09):
Listen, Jordan that that's hard to put a timetable on it.

Speaker 2 (16:13):
I mean, I don't know that answer. I know for me,
and this is just a guess.

Speaker 3 (16:18):
And I don't even know if it's an educated guess.
I'm just like Bryce Can. I'd love to see him
just catch his breath. I think that's the biggest thing.
Catch your breath. Let him watch a little bit. I
just think the game. He can look at it a
little differently. It's a different mindset when you're a backup. Yes,
you prepare the same. You know what you're supposed to do.
And I know for me, when I was a backup,

(16:39):
I played, I always had my helmet on on the sidelines,
and I would hear the play call come in and
I would go through it in my mind. Okay, here's
my check. If it's one high too high, I'm going here,
here and here, what's my run check? And I just
you try to play the game because you don't know.
He's one play away, Jordan. We know how injuries happened
in this league. He's one play away from going back in.
But that Andy could maybe stabilize the offense a little bit.

(17:02):
We can get some maybe downfield passing game.

Speaker 2 (17:05):
Help the run game, because I truly think our run games, Okay,
I've seen some glimpses of that. It's just we've gotten
behind in games and we've had to become very one dimensional.
So to put a timetable, I don't know. I don't
think you can answer that. I mean, I'm still at
fifteen games of that. This season is still so so young.
I just don't think you can answer that yet.

Speaker 4 (17:26):
Okay, So what do we what we're moving to? We're
moving on, We're playing this game. We're going to the
Las Vegas to play the Raiders. One and one seems
like a winnable game to me. Jake, Right, they got
Garter Minshew as their quarterback.

Speaker 1 (17:39):
Obviously, Max Crosby is the big name defensive Playervonte Adams
majorly distracting road trip just with the location of the field.
It's literally on the strip. It's a crazy looking, new,
awesome stadium. We can win this game, right and I know,
like Pple, oh, sure, there's so much doom and gloom
right now around in the state of things, but this

(18:02):
is a winnable game and kind of glad it's not
a home game.

Speaker 2 (18:05):
Jakes.

Speaker 3 (18:06):
Yeah, I agree with you there about going on the
road and the pack of the mentality of us versus
the world type situation, and let's be honest, the Raiders
are not gonna take us as serious. I mean, the
Raiders opened up with the Chargers week one and it
was kind of a nipping up game until late in
the game, and they felt they kind of gave the

(18:26):
Chargers some things. And then they go to Baltimore and
they're what down ten and the fourth and Baltimore gives
up those points and they beat Baltimore in Baltimore. So
they're feeling good about themselves.

Speaker 2 (18:39):
Yeah, they're they're.

Speaker 3 (18:39):
Frustrated with their run game, but they're feeling really good
about themselves.

Speaker 2 (18:42):
And it's a typical trap game.

Speaker 3 (18:45):
They're not gonna they're gonna overlook the Panthers, and and
they've got some good players.

Speaker 2 (18:50):
But that's where we go focus on ourselves.

Speaker 3 (18:52):
And you hit on one of them, Max Crosby, and
it's a different guy.

Speaker 2 (18:56):
Man.

Speaker 3 (18:57):
Just when I say guys, just the way he lines up,
ros his body and he's so long and relentless rush.
And then Christian Wilkins signed the major deal, the big
d tackle. So they have a pretty solid upfront defensive line.
And offensively, yeah, they have DeVante Adams. They're struggling a
little bit running the football. Some Gardoner Minshew's a quarterback.

(19:19):
So you know, it's a it's certainly a chance for
us to, like you said, go on the road and
and just take the mentality of hey, it's a fresh start.
Let's it's a fresh start. Let's try to win this
week and let's get some type of momentum. And I
think I think you'll see that.

Speaker 4 (19:38):
Well, that's the plan, Jake. You're not making the trip
out there, correct.

Speaker 3 (19:42):
No, I'm off this weekend. Yeah, Luke's got Luke's doing
it this weekend. This is one of my weekends off.
We have a out of town volleyball tournament. And being
a senior dad Jordan, it's a man.

Speaker 2 (19:54):
Time flies, buddy.

Speaker 3 (19:55):
That's either I'm getting older or times just it's just
going too fast.

Speaker 2 (19:59):
Man.

Speaker 1 (20:00):
Well, you don't like going to Vegas? I mean, couldn't that.
I can see you being like a Papa Georgio kind
of guy out there, you know, hitting the roulette table
and shooting something.

Speaker 2 (20:11):
I'll tell you what came out.

Speaker 3 (20:13):
Kerry and I were both like, hey, that could be
a trip, you know, go to Vegas.

Speaker 2 (20:17):
I haven't been in so long.

Speaker 3 (20:18):
But then you know, big volleyball All Catholic League tournament
a new again.

Speaker 2 (20:25):
It's just sometimes you just kind of go with it.

Speaker 4 (20:28):
All right, Well, best of luck to the Panthers.

Speaker 2 (20:30):
Man.

Speaker 1 (20:31):
This this has been kind of a getting ready for
the show. It's like these these these weeks are tough
when there's just you know, not a lot of great
things to talk about. But let's let's get it right
this week. Get over there to the Raiders rights and get.

Speaker 4 (20:48):
The win man, and just hey, we'll talk about how.

Speaker 1 (20:50):
