Speaker 1 (00:01):
The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com
and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Cowboys.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
This is media Match, a roundtable of Cowboys insiders, trumping
wisdom and offering sizzling takes on the current state of
your Dallas Cowboys. Now your host knew, he scrugs.

Speaker 3 (00:24):
Happy New Year, everybody, Happy New Year. The media matches
here for twenty twenty five. Looks like it may be
our final show. Here is the Cowboys season is about
to end a and it was that seventy nine bugeye record.
Try to take on the Washington Commanders to see if
it is a seven and ten or a eight and
nine season for Michael from Pittsburgh, who could be coaching

(00:46):
in his last game.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
Well, Jesse Holley, rub it off when you did Michael
when Pittsburgh, Jessey.

Speaker 4 (00:52):
Lady, you're humanizing the man, Jesse Holly, the ball man
with drids?

Speaker 2 (00:57):
Wow Wow wow Wow. That was a shot. Why Why
won't you call him? Why you compared to Stevie one
and Jerry Rice?

Speaker 3 (01:05):
That was a dope, No, that was you anyway, I
hadn't brought up them to legends.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
Mike by seventy nine, got your bull dyve mean people
had to work hard, they fought to get to seven
and nine. They overachieved when you up to that, seventy
nine is math Back to mister Hills seniors, did he say,
I like the way your fought son? And he says,
as Bill part said, has taught us, you don't treat

(01:32):
every child us some people. Some people are that seventy
nine is who they are, okay, and you give them
credit for seventy nine because they could have been foign
whatever five and twelve, five and thire. You know what
I'm saying. You know where that came from?

Speaker 3 (01:48):
Man Cheff Fisher when he did Hard Knocks mis n
and he was talking to the teams like, you know,
no more than seventy nine? Boog what Jeff said? And
ironically Carothy passed Jeff Fisher.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
And wins what a seven nine moon? So here they
are stuck with that, but they're trying to get to
eight and nine and.

Speaker 4 (02:14):
I've kind of them out before this year and they've won.

Speaker 5 (02:17):
Does it matter?

Speaker 2 (02:18):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (02:18):
Media mashed with Clarence Hill, ed Warder John Taylor.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
I am new he struggled. I'm with you.

Speaker 3 (02:22):
Does it matter.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
It matters to who Mike McCarthy.

Speaker 5 (02:27):
You don't think that decisions already made?

Speaker 2 (02:30):
No, no, no, no, you're talking about I said the
win matters to him, not not I. In the return,
it's listen.

Speaker 5 (02:38):
There gave me on this. I can't wait.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
No, I'm not educating man, you know. But there's logic
that what makes sense. And then there's Jerry Jones.

Speaker 5 (02:47):
Okay, he is wildly unpredictable, especially on this and always
has been. So how can you predict what a man
might do when a man let go of a two
time super Bowl winner and hired Berry's exactly. You cannot
guess what this man might do.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
So he could tell me what he's gonna do, and
I would have to say Jerry says, that's what he's
gonna do.

Speaker 5 (03:10):
But he always says.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Just because I said it don't make it sense, that's right,
just because my lips are moving, you know, And I
just I'll talk.

Speaker 5 (03:16):
To make a statement. It's just a statement for that day.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
I talked to a better member in the locker room today.
He has other clients.

Speaker 5 (03:27):
We should not be exposing one another.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
First sources exactly, and it wasn't Jordan hands up to
Jordan's shout at Jordan won the Good Guy Good Guy
War for the Pro Football Right Associations for you know
how he has handled the media in good times and
bad times.

Speaker 5 (03:44):
Did Jon curse win that last year?

Speaker 2 (03:46):
No one that that one of last It was two
years ago.

Speaker 5 (03:51):
You don't want either of the things that happened to
those two guys year. So maybe Jordan should give that
back as soon as possible.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
You know. You know, Zeke is one of the Mike Is.
When we were gonna one time we were thinking about
naming the Jackson Whittne Award because he wanted like two
or three times because he's always been out there and
been someone that we could rely on. But yeah, one
of these uh, and that is to me that guy
we can rename name after that because he's always good
and whether it's his day to talk or not his

(04:18):
day to talk.

Speaker 5 (04:19):
Unless he's hurt, then he doesn't talk. Except you talked
yesterday about robbery yesterday.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
I mean he's available when he's in there, he'll talk.
He's not opposed to talking. But uh, going back to anyway,
the veteran locker room, he raised the point to me
who else he gonna get. He said that he understands
he's that he's not gonna be a young coach, and
Mike is just as good as Mike Rabel. Mike Rabel,

(04:46):
but Mike, those on.

Speaker 5 (04:48):
Different than Mike.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
It's different than different, you just need different.

Speaker 5 (04:52):
I would say Rabel is different than Mike McCarthy and
that the things that his teams are known for are
playing physical defense, being a physical running team, and having
a very tough mentality. Those are not qualities people associate
with these teams in Dallas.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
But but but his success has not been better than
he's won.

Speaker 5 (05:16):
No, it's been less well, won a super Bowl, but
he's been He's won a few division titles, and he.

Speaker 4 (05:23):
Coach to franchise. They ain't never really done then.

Speaker 5 (05:26):
And I would always say that the.

Speaker 3 (05:27):
Franchise not under him.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
No, not what I'm saying that.

Speaker 5 (05:35):
The thing I always thought when I watched and covered
Varibel's teams. As much as I'm impressed with him, and
he's physical, a physically imposing guy in a way that
most coaches are not. He's a big dude, And but
I always thought that his teams were kind of slow
and that there was always a high injury toll with

(05:59):
the way they play. I mean, what the Cowboys are
going through this year is like what the Titans went
through almost every year because everybody plays such a physical
style on both sides of the ball.

Speaker 4 (06:08):
He owes School Big ten from the eighties. Yeah, I mean,
that's literally who he is.

Speaker 5 (06:12):
And what he is. But if you look around, that's
my question about McCarthy. Is McCarthy ever going to run
the ball enough to win for win the biggest games,
because that's the way teams are playing now, they're back
to playing that way again.

Speaker 3 (06:25):
To touch on something you said, the player in the
locker room, who you're gonna get.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
I started to switch.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
My mindset on that because there are a lot of
people who are just like, yeah, yeah, you know, look
at what he's done. And you know, obviously his record
was top fourteen or twelve all time and wins. That's
your job as managed, right, is to go figure out
who's next. When Jerry was what forty six or forty
seven when he bought this team or forty whatever he was,
he was out here being bowld. You fire Tom Landry,

(06:53):
upset Cowboy fan base and the NFL establishment, and you
went out there and you say, hey, Jimmy Johnson.

Speaker 5 (06:57):
You go totally unorthodox, unconventional, But.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
That was his former college teammate. He don't have any
more formal college teammates that are of that ILK.

Speaker 3 (07:06):
But my thought process, though, is that guy was being bold.
That guy said let's go out here and do something.

Speaker 4 (07:11):
He was failed in every other facet of his life,
and at eighty one years old, I don't know if.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
He has, but he's never been bowled. Outside of that.
You go back to the coaching you outside of that,
and maybe Bill Parcells his coaching hires have not been
bold and he as ed was there, I wasn't there.
Five hundred coaches can.

Speaker 5 (07:30):
Do this right said something.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
Has he respected the job of the coach na and
my point and he's never paid a coach at the
top of the market.

Speaker 3 (07:38):
And one of my points being is we've seen other folks,
other teams decided to go out.

Speaker 5 (07:45):
And Sean McVay that was twenty nine years old. Matt
Or is never doing the floor.

Speaker 3 (07:51):
Matt Lafloor. You look at KOC in Minnesota. I didn't
think that was gonna work. Even the Bengals went out
there hires Zach Taylor that he ended up going to
Super Bowl.

Speaker 5 (08:01):
I thought Dan Campbell when he got the job and
talked about bite kneecap.

Speaker 3 (08:04):
Yes, I thought that Clark Hunt. I said, why are
you gonna get Andy Reid? He just went through ten
years and man, that guy needs a break. And look
at what he's done in Kansas City. I look at
even Dan Quinn. I'm like, do you really want to
go take another shot with Dan Quinn as a head coach?
I mean, he's a good assistant and what they've done
there Jim Harbaugh coming back to that. So along the way,
I'm just saying, other teams have figured out how to

(08:27):
go do something to just simply say, let's just run
this back with Mike.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
Well, where else are you gonna go?

Speaker 3 (08:33):
That's the job of Jerry and Steven as management and leadership.

Speaker 4 (08:38):
Thats then almost than any other team in the league,
because you know, you got to work a certain way,
you got to be able to you're training camp over
here when we want to sell stuff. I mean, so
when you say who can you go get, you go
get a lot of guys, But guys who have options
like Ben Johnson doesn't seem like I'm not gonna come
here and deal with all that because I got options.

Speaker 3 (08:55):
That's one guy.

Speaker 5 (08:56):
There's other pot he might be that guy. We were
just talking about the next map or the next Sean McVay.

Speaker 2 (09:03):
Are you going to get out the way to allow
yourself to get that guy?

Speaker 5 (09:06):
We know the answer to that exactly.

Speaker 4 (09:07):
I literally just got off the phone before we walked
in here with somebody said he just got to get
out the way, and I was like, dude, it's happened.

Speaker 3 (09:14):
Matt Lafleur took the job at Green Bay, and you know,
you're not running things there. But that's a whole different setup.

Speaker 4 (09:18):
That's like, that's a separation of church and state. We
get the players, you coach them. So it is what
it is.

Speaker 3 (09:24):
You show up knowing what the rules are. At some
point in time, you know, try to find your Joe
Tory again. Even Steinburnner ran into it. Now he had
other folks helping him, but he ran into it again.

Speaker 4 (09:33):
But I tell you, even the next coach is going
to be that's his Joe Tory.

Speaker 5 (09:39):
You said, who the next coach here is going to be?

Speaker 4 (09:40):
Oh yeah, killing Moore.

Speaker 3 (09:41):
That's my that's his opinion.

Speaker 5 (09:44):
He I mean, he could be the next Matt Laflour
or Sean McVay.

Speaker 4 (09:48):
That is my opinion. But it's based off of what
and I worked for Jerry and.

Speaker 5 (09:52):
All the other familiarity, relationship.

Speaker 4 (09:54):
With cost a thousand trillion dollars, familiarity with Dak is
going to have success. This year proved he can run
the ball, even though he got.

Speaker 5 (10:03):
A hand light up the scoreboard. At the same time.

Speaker 3 (10:05):
He got a two thousand yard Russian dog.

Speaker 4 (10:06):
You're gonna say that's all said. Somebody had to get
a sac on the ball. I'm just telling you.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
What about Wes Phillips. He's o C in Minnesota.

Speaker 5 (10:17):
That's the other guy, Kevin Kevin O'Connor. It's another guy
to throw in there in that young group that's really established.

Speaker 4 (10:24):
Well, you guess what, I just can't see West as
his head coach.

Speaker 2 (10:27):
Why you can see kelln AaB but I mean, I mean,
I can't see coach Cupcake two from not a Cupcake coaches.

Speaker 5 (10:43):
He was.

Speaker 2 (10:43):
It was not he was ahead of his time and
out of prepared teams. They're all his training count much tougher.
He's trying to camp now.

Speaker 4 (10:52):
I would like to have I would like to have
access to the way to get it's had good times head
his head. That means you can call it way at all times,
check in with him.

Speaker 2 (11:01):
I I just.

Speaker 3 (11:04):
It's gonna be somebody like that. I've gotten past that
point of just saying, okay, hey just bring it back.
Who else can you get? This is the best you
can do. I remember when when one of Jerry's last
contracts with Romo, he basically talked about that, well, you know,
it's not a lot of quarterbacks actually just gonna give
it to Romo. And guess what we say with Dack,
you know, yeah and maybe.

Speaker 2 (11:23):
And what is that?

Speaker 3 (11:24):
What's that mentality? One year around here? Keep on running
it like in three super Bowls he's acting three Yeah,
I had hair, there was no cell phone. Bill Clinton
was president. Jerry McGuire was like three weeks from being
released when they when they won that Super Bowl, it's
a whole Yeah, I put it. I put a picture
up on Socibia said with Jimmy and Jerry holding that

(11:46):
first trophy on Super Bowl twice. It feels like a
thousand years ago. And the comments that came after it,
what I mean, it just so before before Jesus first birthday.

Speaker 5 (11:56):
So who does everybody here think there's going to be
a coaching staff change.

Speaker 3 (12:00):
I really don't know, and I don't.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
You just said Kelm is gonna be the next coat,
so he said that, right. Yeah, Now he says he
don't know sports and fluid.

Speaker 5 (12:13):
Just because he makes a statement doesn't mean that second.

Speaker 3 (12:16):
And here's why I believe so, because I don't know
how to sell it. The the ultimate salesman, how does
he sell this? I don't know. I don't know how
he sells because when you're selling it, you're not just
selling another year of it. You're just selling three to four,
which means you're talking about another eight years.

Speaker 5 (12:34):
Does he have to sell eight to nine? Does he
think he has to sell it?

Speaker 3 (12:37):
I think he does because he I don't know. Stance
seemed to be pretty full.

Speaker 5 (12:41):
Will there be ninety five thousand there on Sunday?

Speaker 2 (12:43):
No?

Speaker 3 (12:44):
No? No, I mean the way he went after the
boys one O five through the fan. You know, he's touchy,
and I think he'll be touchy after this too.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
Yeah. And I don't think last year you said the
stand was full, and certainly they touted the treading captain.
They fans, you know, signed up as a nine nine
percent clip. I don't think that the renewal of tickets
will be the same as it was last.

Speaker 4 (13:05):
Year, not if the blow up. So I mean, at
least last year they was winning the.

Speaker 2 (13:08):
Crew, right, I don't. I don't think that this fan base,
to me, is this dissolution that I've ever seen. And
I just don't see. I mean, I look at the
Pro Bowl ballanting, and you know, we had five guys
that made the Pro Bowl, but you look at the
fan balloting and you would think that cowboy fans would
have had Brandon Aubury number one, right, he was like

(13:29):
number five. You know, they were not stuff in ballance.
I'm just saying for guys that you would think it
should be obvious choice. I think the disenchantment among the
fan base is higher than it's ever been, that's right.

Speaker 3 (13:42):
And I don't know how the old salesman can come
back and sell this because he's not he's not getting
rid of himself, he's not getting rid of his son.

Speaker 2 (13:49):
They're going to be here.

Speaker 4 (13:50):
I don't always who is the scapegoat for the year,
and that person has to be fired whoever it is.

Speaker 2 (13:57):
Well, and especially if you're not gonna make a change,
and then how you do business and officers, you have
to sell something. If you're not gonna change how you
go about free agency, then you have to sell a
new coaching staff, new direction. I mean, you have to
sell something. If you bring Macarthy back, then you need
to sell. Well, we're gonna get bringing new players, are
gonna change how we do things, you still got to

(14:18):
find something to sell. And so if you're not gonna
change it at this point, they have given no indication
that they're gonna change their ways of ragency. They need
something to sell. And the only thing that can be sold
as a new staff, a new direction, new leadership, right.

Speaker 3 (14:31):
Quarterbacks hurt coming off injury again here.

Speaker 5 (14:34):
I know, isn't that a valid excuse for McCarthy all
the injuries that they've suffered.

Speaker 4 (14:39):
If they was getting WEX before then there were three and.

Speaker 5 (14:41):
Five when that got But you could have heard even
then they were without Micah and without Lawrence who they
didn't have bland and on.

Speaker 3 (14:48):
His radio shows and need you wrote about this too.
He hasn't come to his rescue on any of these sites.
He just has not. And so that's why I and
I'm wondering, this is just me. I'd love to maybe
most trusted you can find out, is there remorse in
not making a move after the Packers game when you
had other options that were more proven available to you.

Speaker 2 (15:10):
Well, I'm glad you brought that up, and you yeah,
I'm glad you. I'm glad you brought it up because
in training camp last year, when he asked, we asked
him why he didn't give Mike mccart's the contract attention,
he said, green Bayase it green Bay.

Speaker 5 (15:25):
He thought it was a wrong time to reward the coach.

Speaker 2 (15:27):
Yeah, but he said green Bay the game, green Bay game.
But why to get well, if you didn't give him
a contract extension because of TO five and green Bay happened,
how can you give him a contract extension now, regardless
of the injuries.

Speaker 5 (15:40):
That's how he could do it. He could say he
had no chance to win. Nobody could have won under.

Speaker 3 (15:46):
The circumstance, which means he then you're gonna say a
second blame.

Speaker 5 (15:49):
He kind of has tried to take the blame. Like
I asked him after the last home game, I said,
do you write this off of the season off as
a failure primarily because of injuries? And right away his
first his response is no, I put it on me. Yeah,
you know, but that doesn't mean he's gonna get a
new general man, right right, right?

Speaker 2 (16:05):
I mean you know this. That is magnanimous to say, yeah,
it's my fault, but you don't change nothing that But.

Speaker 5 (16:10):
That was a situation where he probably didn't have to
say he was to blame. He could have easily said, yeah,
I think it's just injuries.

Speaker 4 (16:14):
I mean he could he has to blame, but that's
still don't mean he's getting a new gym.

Speaker 2 (16:18):
Yeah, following the sword, and you don't change the ways,
don't you know, don't it don't mean nothing from me.

Speaker 5 (16:23):
I just I just not sure that McCarthy gets the
appropriate amount of respect for what he's done.

Speaker 2 (16:29):
No, I don't. But I don't think that that goes
back to I don't go back.

Speaker 5 (16:33):
He just won three he had three twelve wins seasons.

Speaker 2 (16:35):
Alread, he don't get respect. I've said that. I don't
think respect.

Speaker 4 (16:38):
Playoff he had no playoffs success.

Speaker 3 (16:41):
And and just as you talked about the owner had
the ability to go ahead and put a put a
stop to all of this and show appreciation and even
as he talked about him and hey, I like him,
with what he's done. Now that walk down there and
go get him out of contract, you knowing what was
he brought here to do better than be better than
Jason Game at least, and that hasn't happened five years.

Speaker 5 (17:02):
They all agreed when they sat up there and then
made the announcement he was here because they had an
open Super Bowl window and a quarterback capable of delivering
on that, and they needed a coach who knew how
to finish.

Speaker 4 (17:11):
And ultimately five years later, they en'ting closer to winning
the Super Bowl. They see it a little further apart,
so a little further away.

Speaker 3 (17:18):
Which is why we go back to what does the
ultimate salesman sell. I don't I don't see how he's
going to I don't know what he's going to get
up there in front of a podium upstairs and tell
us as if he says, we're bringing him back and
here's three more years. Mean, hey, we gonna have a

(17:38):
total eight years of this and hope that it's not
what the nine years you had spent with Jason Garrett.

Speaker 5 (17:44):
I'm gonna say, maybe, how did he sell Barry Switzer
after they'd won two Super Bowls with the previous coach.
I don't think the guy worries about selling how he
thinks his team sells itself.

Speaker 2 (17:54):
I mean.

Speaker 3 (17:56):
Michael and Charles Hayley, they ain't walking through that door.

Speaker 5 (18:01):
You know. You don't think Dowdell and CD and Dak
and don't forget digs.

Speaker 2 (18:08):
They might not play the mid season, Sir might Limp.

Speaker 5 (18:11):
If you want to sell, you know, go go hire Dion.
If you want something to sell.

Speaker 3 (18:15):
Stop it. Leave my Bravy train alone.

Speaker 5 (18:18):
I'm bringing it to you.

Speaker 3 (18:20):
You believe that you lean that I wasn't asked, that
I wasn't asked now.

Speaker 5 (18:26):
I was asked a year and a half ago.

Speaker 2 (18:28):
I don't know. I'm just not sure. All Right, we'll
come back here.

Speaker 3 (18:31):

Speaker 5 (20:45):
Back to media.

Speaker 3 (20:47):
Mash Media mash your favorite Dallas Cowboys media voices here
in twenty twenty five, Joan Taylor ed Werder clari until
I am new. He scruggs here, merely new scrugs, simply yes, simply, unshakable, breakable.

(21:12):
Let's just get this out the way, guys. Okay, we've
been sitting on this for a minute.

Speaker 5 (21:17):
Good lord, what's scuffing?

Speaker 2 (21:19):
I know, good lord? Is what's coming?

Speaker 11 (21:21):
Right?

Speaker 2 (21:22):
That was targeting?

Speaker 5 (21:23):
Oh? Why are we doing total totally?

Speaker 3 (21:27):
Can we just get this out the way in that
piece and we're gonna be honest. Yes it was, and
I was for Texas.

Speaker 2 (21:31):
Okay, if we're gonna be honest, and would you get
for the say, huh, you can have some add to it.

Speaker 5 (21:38):
No, it was you don't think it was.

Speaker 2 (21:39):
I think it was targeting. It was thinking of the target.
It never sense of how they've called the room totally
changed the game, got totally said.

Speaker 3 (21:47):
It didn't change the game.

Speaker 4 (21:47):
First again, you can say it didn't cause them to lose,
but you can't say it didn't change.

Speaker 2 (21:51):
It didn't call them lose. It wasn't the reason why
they lost.

Speaker 5 (21:53):
We don't know that we really, we.

Speaker 2 (21:55):
Do knows not why they lost.

Speaker 5 (21:56):
It would have got a first down.

Speaker 2 (21:58):
It's not the game and they and they had to
and they had leading in overtime with no overtime fourth
to thirteen.

Speaker 3 (22:05):
Maybe there is no it was the butterfly fick might
not have been overtime.

Speaker 2 (22:09):
First of all, they have a booty kicker. Can we
say that Bud Jive kicker?

Speaker 3 (22:12):
Yep? But he might have made that ran that thing
or he wasn't.

Speaker 2 (22:16):
He didn't.

Speaker 5 (22:17):
He is your a kicker from Flower Mountain.

Speaker 2 (22:20):
I don't know where from he booty too.

Speaker 4 (22:22):
I stand by my words. I do not trust any
college kicker from any But.

Speaker 2 (22:27):
It didn't cast him the game. It was. It was
textbook targeting and ever since and how they've called it
somewhere Mark was like, yeah, I've seen this before. First right,
nobody cheating for Texas. That was not a hont cheating
for Texas. Don't do that? How did they how did
how did they let them get ahead and overtime? Then?
What did they do.

Speaker 5 (22:48):
It?

Speaker 4 (22:49):
Doug Hollow?

Speaker 2 (22:50):
What they doing overtime to get lead? Poor Texas at
fourth and thirteen had a file a fourth to night
and they threw a flag man at four thirteen.

Speaker 4 (23:00):
Why did they call them zero blitz on that play?

Speaker 2 (23:04):
Why can I defend it?

Speaker 5 (23:06):
Can hands?

Speaker 3 (23:09):
I didn't have a problem with the call. The problem
with the call is you didn't get home. When you
don't get home, it's all out.

Speaker 2 (23:14):
I mean he was sitting back there like right, I mean,
get the biggest fan of the game. He was the
most comfortable he's ever been.

Speaker 3 (23:22):
Tuxes offics and line coaster going in the sark. I
want to raise because he saved their whole season right there.

Speaker 2 (23:28):
It was actually Quinn, much belind Quinn who actually Titan
who changed the call and changed the protection because he
saw it. He saw they did the motion, he saw
what they had, he saw the blitz. It was Quinn
did who gets a lot of criticism by fan base
on his play, and and he he.

Speaker 4 (23:44):
That's because he did based like Ohio State fan base
and title fan base thing, he's supposed to win every game.

Speaker 5 (23:48):
But you two are going at it.

Speaker 4 (23:51):
So it's delicious. Already got the tickets, uh, And I
was chicking with my dad to see if he's flying
down for the game.

Speaker 2 (23:58):
He already got tickets. No, okay, tickets now ye have
but them tickets is highest giraffe?

Speaker 5 (24:03):
How is it called, Jerry? How high is it to stadium?

Speaker 2 (24:06):
Oh, you haven't seen the prices?

Speaker 4 (24:07):
Four hundred five hundred.

Speaker 5 (24:09):
For for three hundred and four hundred level mark.

Speaker 3 (24:13):
This is more expensive than the Johnny Manziel game.

Speaker 2 (24:15):
But this game is they they're they're crazy.

Speaker 5 (24:19):
Really.

Speaker 2 (24:19):
I mean you got the because we were tweeted last night,
me and my son Man, I said, you already got ticket.
The ticket is AH two.

Speaker 3 (24:26):
Most a fan bases getting together here is I just.

Speaker 4 (24:28):
Said a certain amount of money set aside.

Speaker 2 (24:31):
Well, so a lot of a lot of Texans fans
did I go to uh because they're waiting for this,
and so I'm and I think that's part of the
mentality Texas had. The focus was not everybody soon, it
was gonna beat They were double digit favorites. A lot
of the fan base didn't go. What I understand, there
was sixty fort if not seventy five, twenty five Arizona

(24:51):
State fans compared to Texas fans at the game, you know,
and they were all waiting for to come back for
the Cotton Bowl for either Ohio State of Oregon reps
made it happen you're here. Now you're here.

Speaker 5 (25:03):
It is going to Bryan McConaughey, he's gotta have a
couple of extra.

Speaker 2 (25:08):
Listen. But yeah, it's how I'm just saying to think
that you're just want to get three hundred eight three
four hundred.

Speaker 4 (25:15):
Now I had Mone in that set of sun and
you you should have your past, you should be Okay,
you'll be the game.

Speaker 5 (25:22):
I mentioned my grandson is a Longhorns fan. I mentioned
to him last night he should fly down and go
to the game with me, and he was.

Speaker 3 (25:27):
All about it, Okay, I'll see it.

Speaker 5 (25:29):
And then I looked and saw how much tickets. I
was like, I think we should wait. How about if
I take you to the Cowboys at the Broncos next
year in Denver.

Speaker 2 (25:37):
Let's do that they.

Speaker 3 (25:40):
Meet credicals approved, So I'll be there Friday.

Speaker 2 (25:42):
I need to go and put him mind, you know what,
I'm good?

Speaker 4 (25:46):
Yeah, okay, of course that would leave my son. Now,
I shoot him.

Speaker 3 (25:52):
Some Facebook live videos, some Instagram line to go see
when that window bot portal clothes on on the credentials, Yeah,
to do that that. Yeah, but okay, so at least
we got out there.

Speaker 2 (26:03):
It was targeting. It was not targeting, but at five
pm today it was targeted. I'm sorry, it was not
the difference maker in the game. And at five pm
today we're done with the target and talk.

Speaker 5 (26:15):
We're done with it now.

Speaker 2 (26:16):
Thank you. Mister Scattaboy.

Speaker 5 (26:19):
Thoughts you could sell him here, build a nice marketing
campaign around.

Speaker 2 (26:24):
Him over oh genty hometime board. I don't think you're
going to spend a first round.

Speaker 3 (26:29):
Pick on I don't think you have to. I think
really good back, right, it's a fantastic running back, classic
Scataboo's later.

Speaker 2 (26:37):
He's not the first round guy.

Speaker 5 (26:38):
Was Gibbs the first round guy gives win the first round?

Speaker 2 (26:41):
I know, was it worth it made him a first
Yeah it was worth it.

Speaker 5 (26:46):
Yeah, he's worth it.

Speaker 3 (26:47):
I would think that Brad Holmes is the GM here
as the do.

Speaker 5 (26:52):
Don't think he took a running back high before that.

Speaker 3 (26:55):
Was that was That was a complete monster who Jerry
saw running in his stadium. And I don't think the gents.

Speaker 4 (27:01):
I don't taking Jenkins or Henderson this week.

Speaker 3 (27:05):
I don't think they take anybody first round, just me.

Speaker 2 (27:08):
I don't think they take a running back in theirst round.
I don't think the com possible not. I mean there
are other positions they I mean, I think they need
help on the divis line. You help on office line.
They could use Luther Burden, the receiver out of Missouri,
to put next to CD Lamb.

Speaker 4 (27:23):
They can just take any player and have him contribute
next year.

Speaker 3 (27:28):
I think there's enough running backs that they could go
like a scataboo that they will be.

Speaker 2 (27:32):
The difference makers like gent.

Speaker 5 (27:35):
Bucky Irving.

Speaker 3 (27:37):
You get fourth, I feel good.

Speaker 4 (27:38):
You can get one, second, third, fourth round difference if
it's important to him.

Speaker 3 (27:43):
Yes, that was the coach is that.

Speaker 2 (27:47):
They gave will want that first of all the first round.
They gave up a fourth round pick for a receiver
out of Carolina, so you know.

Speaker 5 (27:56):
And for a quarterback that they don't want to play.

Speaker 2 (27:58):
I'm talking about this year's drafting. That need your guy
from Missouri.

Speaker 4 (28:01):
They get some compensatory picks to make. That's why that
wasn't a big deal.

Speaker 2 (28:05):
Yes, I'm at the bottom.

Speaker 4 (28:08):
I'm just telling you what I was told.

Speaker 2 (28:10):
That was at the bottom. All right.

Speaker 5 (28:12):
I would not hesitate to take a running back in
the first round if he's special.

Speaker 2 (28:15):
I would not, and it is supposed to be special,
especially because what your quarterback has proved, he plays much
much better.

Speaker 5 (28:22):
When he has a run game, when he got when
he got the production pass in a class and he
doesn't have to throw forty times.

Speaker 4 (28:28):
He can throw twenty eight to thirty two times.

Speaker 2 (28:31):
He's that dude, and the class is deep.

Speaker 3 (28:33):
I'm inclined to think this group, based on what they've
done in the past, will wait.

Speaker 2 (28:37):
That's just my belief.

Speaker 5 (28:39):
And but just because there's a lot of good running
backs doesn't mean the one that goes first is as
good as the one who goes six.

Speaker 4 (28:45):
You know, I'm a believer in that. I'm like, go
take the guy you want quick.

Speaker 3 (28:50):
You know, I still think they need to go fix
that DA that D line.

Speaker 2 (28:53):
That D line is But let's see.

Speaker 3 (28:55):
That's how you go.

Speaker 4 (28:56):
What if the D lineman is just I eight, but
the running back is special, go.

Speaker 2 (29:00):
After Take a guy from Michigan on defense line.

Speaker 3 (29:03):
Is he the one who stuffed us two weeks ago?

Speaker 2 (29:05):
Yes?

Speaker 4 (29:05):
Fine, taking a lot of people.

Speaker 2 (29:07):
That scaled line. They should be at the fifty eight.

Speaker 5 (29:11):
Take the running back.

Speaker 4 (29:14):
The ti end for Michigan ain't been no good around
here either. That you over for two In recent Michigan picks.

Speaker 5 (29:20):
Was playing better.

Speaker 2 (29:21):
He made over three. Don't forget Taco.

Speaker 3 (29:24):
Taco and to Michigan.

Speaker 2 (29:26):
Yes, that's probably why we used to beat the snot
he been on the beat in the minute. See what
I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (29:33):
I forgot. I ain't thought about Tao Taco still in
the league.

Speaker 2 (29:38):
He no my last famous pick. They took him over
with t J. Watt.

Speaker 3 (29:43):
I forgot. I knew that, but I forgot what he went.
The only Michigan man that's worked out around here has
been Jordan Lewis, who probably should have been in the
Pro Bowl and maybe he'll make it.

Speaker 4 (29:51):
And you know, Jordan lowis gonna walk because he was
talking trash as Rookie the Dead.

Speaker 5 (29:56):
He talked about that today.

Speaker 3 (29:57):
I mean, that's that's when he's like, I don't know
if he could play, but I like it.

Speaker 5 (30:00):
He said, that's when he learned how big the stage
was here and how different it was even from man Arbor.

Speaker 3 (30:04):
Yeah, Jordan was one of my favorite dudes. They got
the good guy with today.

Speaker 5 (30:09):
But Clarence gave it to him. Clarience made the presentation.

Speaker 2 (30:12):
I saw the video. I saw the video.

Speaker 5 (30:14):
I thought, knowing the Cawvin, I thought the should had
a TV guy do it.

Speaker 3 (30:16):
I thought Calvin was the Calviny president.

Speaker 2 (30:19):
Has that work now? I mean you were trying to
shooho on Calvin and in our business that trust.

Speaker 4 (30:25):
You know, he's president of the local local.

Speaker 2 (30:30):
KA a local.

Speaker 5 (30:34):
Local you as you just want to be educated.

Speaker 2 (30:37):
He's doing already known this.

Speaker 5 (30:38):
It was a fair question.

Speaker 2 (30:39):
He's doing so much.

Speaker 4 (30:41):
You know him a cabin they run things in the city, making.

Speaker 3 (30:43):
Manions podcastle I guess that never happened. So you made
the final calls utally the votes or had that work?
Just you do a Jerry decision?

Speaker 2 (30:52):
I think this who it was unanimous. We voted throughout
the media room and there was nothing unanimous unanimous.

Speaker 5 (30:59):
Did you get a I was not asked to vote,
but I've only been here thirty years.

Speaker 3 (31:02):
I don't I don't know how it works, said he
got it.

Speaker 4 (31:05):
I didn't get a vote, but I ain't in a lucky.

Speaker 2 (31:07):
It was paid members of the PFWA.

Speaker 4 (31:11):
I ain't paid that.

Speaker 2 (31:12):
In the minute, Garrett Garrett, this is like a poll tax.

Speaker 5 (31:16):
He's got Garrett is Garrett Podell.

Speaker 2 (31:18):
Remember I'm not doing this with you, Garre. Congradulations in
Jordan's and if anybody's keeping score.

Speaker 5 (31:26):
Taco Charlton is playing the United Football League for the
Birmingham Stallions right now.

Speaker 3 (31:31):
Stallions, which means he training in Islington. Okay, you can't
get rid of that man, all right, uh final break coming.

Speaker 5 (31:40):
He might have been on the on the Super Bowl
rusher with the Chiefs.

Speaker 4 (31:42):
He was, That's what I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (31:44):
No, he was on somebody's ross and they got beat.
Maybe he walked around.

Speaker 5 (31:48):
Maybe he was with the forty nine ers last year
with the practice squad. He was with the Chiefs one
year though when they.

Speaker 3 (31:54):
Lost and the Dolphins I think he got He was
with the Chiefs in twenty twenty, got that second place rame.

Speaker 5 (31:59):
That's he's been closer than most of these guys though.

Speaker 2 (32:06):
True to get ready to go to the last segment.
And I'm glad you brought up closer to the motives. Guys,
we haven't brought up the elephant in the room.

Speaker 2 (34:47):
You know it was funny because we're talking about Taco
being with a super Bowl team and having chest to win,
and certainly if faced Washington, they would do so without
one Ezekiel Elliott. We haven't brought up the fact that
Zeke is gone. It was curious because you know, we
want to show on New Year's Eve when they came down.

(35:10):
News came down and it was like Zeke's being asked.

Speaker 5 (35:16):
For his release so he could join a playoffs.

Speaker 2 (35:18):
So he could join a playoff team. Ed, yes, sir,
the veteran Hall of Famer. What playoff team want.

Speaker 5 (35:25):
Ze Apparently none at the moment. Nobody claimed him on
waivers because.

Speaker 2 (35:29):
They could have claimed him for a cheap contract because
it wasn't like it was getting paid.

Speaker 3 (35:32):
And nobody has a cheaper contract.

Speaker 5 (35:34):
Nobody has so far signed him. But David Montgomery is
kind of iffy on when he's going to come back
with the Lions. Your guy Dobbins, Your guy Dobbins just
came back with the Chargers and they got some running back.

Speaker 2 (35:50):
Issues and Gus is out.

Speaker 5 (35:53):
Yeah, So there's a couple of teams in the playoffs
that could win in the first round who might have interest,
but nobody's done it yet and it was specially interesting
yesterday I mentioned the Lions with the running back injury
that they have there and there was some mention that
he might come back as soon as this week, but
they also cut Jamal Adams. Jamal Adams well thought he

(36:14):
was coming here several times, so it seemed like they
were creating a roster spot for somebody, and yet nothing
has happened in that regard so far. I don't know
why somebody would want to sign Ezekiel Elliott at this point,
quite honestly. And I have a lot of respect for
what the guy was, and I thought he could contribute
this year as a short yard's goal lineback, but he

(36:36):
really didn't, and he fumbled sometimes and he just wasn't reliable.

Speaker 2 (36:40):
Yeah, and speaking two guys in the locker room today,
I asked a player about it and they were all
mystified by Zeke's role early because they thought he k
was coming to play. They saw him in training camp
and how they used him. They certainly thought that he
would least be a goal line back. Used him on
a goal line earlier this year. Uh and him not

(37:04):
having rollers, He's say, can understand why Zeke would want
to go somewhere else, and Zeke was, you know, it's
not complained or whatever else, but he was frustrated with
with with how he was used. Interestingly, as well as
Rico was playing. He has one rushing touchdow.

Speaker 5 (37:19):
Yeah, he's about to be the third player in NFL
history to rush for one thousand yards and have one
or fewer.

Speaker 2 (37:26):
Touchdowns like that tight end from who the tight end.

Speaker 5 (37:28):
From the Cardinals.

Speaker 2 (37:30):
Cardinals who got like one hundred catches in one touchdown. Finally,
but uh, one rushing touchdown. The team has five overall.

Speaker 5 (37:36):
That's five five.

Speaker 2 (37:39):
Rushing touchdowns and one is about one is about Dak.

Speaker 5 (37:42):
And they've given up the most rushing touchdowns has two.

Speaker 7 (37:46):
Take that.

Speaker 3 (37:47):
So let me ask this whole question because because I
and it's just me wondering, don't know. Did Mike McCarthy
want him back or was this Jerry wanting Zeke back?

Speaker 5 (37:57):
My guess would be the front office wanted him back
and the coaching staf was either against it or indifferent
about it.

Speaker 2 (38:03):
I think, I mean, once they didn't get anybody in
the draft, I think it was who you're gonna get.
And I think that that's the problem is they didn't
drafted running back because they gave up the draft fourth
round pick for which we haven't talked about either Trey
Lance whether he gonna play this week or not. And
you know, you get you got you give up a
fourth round pick for a guy that you never you know,
start in the game, which.

Speaker 5 (38:23):
For two years, for two years, and you lost your quarterback.

Speaker 2 (38:26):
For and Bucket Irvin went one pick after the Cowboys
fourth round pick. You know, so you you know, so
you don't once you don't get one in the draft,
then you got to fill out the roster and you're
bringing Rico back, but you need some masure and listen,
we love what Rico's done and how he's done it
and in his emergency, but no one knew, okay, but

(38:49):
no one knew and in April what Rico was and
so you needed to they would we will have a committee.

Speaker 5 (38:56):
Do you think you think McCarthy played the running back
situation the way he won tend to play it or
the way he was forced to play.

Speaker 14 (39:02):
It in terms of giving his Zeke opportunities, in terms
in terms of having a running back by committee and
not being able to dedicate the position to Rico double
until six games or left or whatever.

Speaker 2 (39:12):
To me, forced his forced his twofold. As I said,
and I keep saying, listen, I love what Rico has done,
but there was nothing in Rico's history that says he
should be the guy other than he's the only guy standing.

Speaker 5 (39:28):
But you're watching the guy through training camp.

Speaker 2 (39:30):
I know, but historically he's never carried to load. You
don't know if you can hold.

Speaker 5 (39:34):
Stand always project guys.

Speaker 2 (39:35):
But you're watching, but you but you don't know. If
he's been injured his whole career. He did not carry
loaded to South Carolina. You don't know. So you're you're
heading your bet, is what I'm saying. That you're heading
your bet that we're going to do the committee until
somebody emerges.

Speaker 4 (39:49):
I don't think they was like, but nobody can emerge.

Speaker 3 (39:52):
Everybody get three carres.

Speaker 5 (39:53):
But the eight free agent running backs better than all?

Speaker 10 (39:58):
Right?

Speaker 3 (39:59):
Give you heard Steven, You heard Jerry talking about Ezekiel
Elliot's guy.

Speaker 2 (40:05):
He did this in New England.

Speaker 3 (40:07):
You never heard Mike McCarthy saying it.

Speaker 2 (40:09):
And then this whole thing he talked about no No,
many days in training camp, Mike McCarthy talked glowingly about
what they knew what Zeke was and the type of
role he was many we talked many times. Okay, off
the podium.

Speaker 5 (40:21):
You know what they did with that guy makes any
sense at all. No fact that they protected him in
training camp. Yeah, he didn't practice and he didn't play
in the preseason because they're saving him for bigger games
and playoff games. That was ridiculous.

Speaker 2 (40:32):
Okay, that's why he was dumbfounded.

Speaker 5 (40:35):
He's had he has got worse every season. Now, he's
great early, but recently he hasn't been even an average back.
And you don't want to see as coaches, you don't
want to see that he still has it before you
get to week one.

Speaker 2 (40:47):
No, I agree, but before we predict the games. Okay,
the question of whether Trenton Asks are gonna play, well, yeah,
it matters to some people. It matters to Cooper rugs,
you know what fifty thousand, Yeah, it batters. Yeah, Cooper
Rush told us today, and Mike mccarth has been very

(41:07):
close to the best, and.

Speaker 5 (41:08):
You're usually so yeah, usually tells us yeah.

Speaker 2 (41:11):
But Cooper Rush said, you know, I asked him to day.
He said that it's been business using practice. It might
there's been no change and Mike said something similar.

Speaker 5 (41:19):
We're going for He didn't want to talk about.

Speaker 2 (41:21):
It, but then I might want to talk about it.

Speaker 3 (41:23):
But he said all systems go or something like something
similar to basically said to me, I look at.

Speaker 5 (41:27):
This someone who has asked that question and asked it prematurely.
In Mike's opinion, usually he's quite the fourth right right
about and stern about the fact that we're playing Cooper Rush.
He gives us the best chance to win. He's not
saying that this week.

Speaker 2 (41:41):
Right, But Cooper Rush did tell us that there's been
no change in how they approached practice. What that means,
we don't know.

Speaker 3 (41:48):
When I might say all systems go just to me
and took it as when we ain't change nothing.

Speaker 2 (41:51):
Yeah, but about it from a financial standpoint, if Cooper
Rush plays not but Dardian again, one.

Speaker 5 (41:56):
Hundred and fifty thousand dollars bonus.

Speaker 2 (41:57):
Yeah, he getting paid and he says he knows it.
He says he knows what the money is, he knows
he knows the contract. He think he don't, he knows
he knows what it means to his pocketbook.

Speaker 4 (42:11):
Okay, well, good luck to Cooper and it's on twenty
five Texas.

Speaker 5 (42:14):
What if Jerry decides I want to see the guy
I traded for without your consent, Mike, and make at
least one start before we let him go. And it's
gonna save me quarter of a million. Come in for that.

Speaker 2 (42:25):
You know you you think Jerry's gonna save a quarter
of a million when he when he basically had flush
five million down to dream with with with Trey lance.

Speaker 5 (42:31):
Man, it's only four fifty, you know, the flush five
million down to dream Basically you're paying trade nine five
million for what?

Speaker 2 (42:39):
That's what?

Speaker 3 (42:39):
That's what I mean?

Speaker 8 (42:40):
Like?

Speaker 3 (42:40):
Does it matter now?

Speaker 5 (42:41):
Cooper Rush?

Speaker 3 (42:42):
Pay him to fifty? All right, let's pick this game.
Commandos coming to town to take on Dallas. It's Dallas week?
Up there, Chill, what's your score?

Speaker 2 (42:51):
Who you got? I just think that the error is out,
the air is out, the balloon the hope try hard
it popped last week, parking lot. I see the Commanders
who actually plan for the sixth seed. A quarterback who
seems to you to be it's confident. I see Commanders

(43:16):
thirty Cowboys fourteen.

Speaker 5 (43:21):
Dan Quinn says they're playing to win, that they have
something of value to achieve.

Speaker 2 (43:26):
Avoid the Eagles avoid.

Speaker 5 (43:29):
I'm picking Washington thirty one to ten.

Speaker 4 (43:32):
Dang, that was dangerously close to my score. They got
the dan Quinn Boys thirty four to nine. Brandon Aubrey
going in three rooms, three kicks, one of the sixty
seven pro bowler.

Speaker 3 (43:44):
Okay, so we go with that seven and ten bulls,
that's what we're saying.

Speaker 5 (43:48):
Yeah, equaling his career high for losses at ten. So
would be the third time.

Speaker 3 (43:56):
Gentlemen, if this is the end, my friend, it's been fun.

Speaker 5 (44:00):
I think Claire was going to prevent that.

Speaker 3 (44:02):
I was going to say the as Princess Leah said,
Ada theda, here is our only hope. So uh if
with the show has says, it'll be Clarence Hill and
Derek Eagleton who do that.

Speaker 5 (44:13):
So let us know that, Chris, maybe the viewers and
the listeners could make a few.

Speaker 4 (44:17):
Phone calls past.

Speaker 2 (44:20):
We gotta sell the show, you know, we got we
got to get a public demand. Let them know and
they go back them play, Let them play, let them play.
Whatever that's wrong, that's bad news. Bearers breaking training when
they went to Houston.

Speaker 3 (44:34):
That's Bob Bob Watson on the afternoon feel in a
in a stadium that they don't use anymore. And in fact,
you used dating yourself all day long.

Speaker 4 (44:43):
That was after Kelly lit up the cigarette.

Speaker 2 (44:45):
Listen, we only got his dandy. Come on, we all knew, Jock,
you knew. Let them play jazz is back there? Like,
what are they talking to?

Speaker 3 (44:57):
Too young?

Speaker 5 (44:57):
You know, maybe if they save Cooper Rushes two fifty
this week they can afford us.

Speaker 3 (45:03):
There you go, there you go.

Speaker 2 (45:05):
All right? Uh, media mash, We're out there. I love me.

Speaker 1 (45:10):
It's been a production of Dallascowboys dot Com and the
