Speaker 1 (00:03):
The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com
and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Cowboys.

Speaker 1 (00:12):
This is Media Match, a roundtable of Cowboys insiders, trumping
wisdom and offering Szling takes on the current state of
your Dallas Cowboys. Now your host, Newie Scrugs.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
All right, media match time right here on a Tuesday,
heading into Thursday's Thanksgiving Day game with the Dallas Cowboys
and the New York Football Giants. Mega Man Tuesday. Right here,
we got Clarence Hill of All City Dallas, my favorite
man from Ada, THETA Chapter the University of Texas. Newie
Scruggs got me Chapter USC. Pinbro All right, Longhorn, you

(00:52):
got the Longhorn. Matt Brown who won you your last
national championship of Texas dismissed at North Carolina today.

Speaker 4 (01:00):
You know, I mc brown provided a program in Texas,
so he'll always you know, have a special place there,
always be considered the legend there. And you know they
brought him back, you know, he came to Texas, North Carolina,
they went back home, so to speak, and uh, you know,
uh this shouldn't taint his legacy at North Carolina and
Texas you know, obviously it's you know, he's seventy three

(01:25):
years old. He's been through the Wars. You know, how
does Nick say? But is he older younger than Nick?
Because Nick stepped down last year. I think he may
be older than I believe. So yeah, and you know
he has a future, as you know, I see Nick's
on game day. But you know he held possibly played
the leadue course though, you know he has a future

(01:46):
in that.

Speaker 3 (01:47):
He was good on TV before. He's done that before. Yeah,
Mac did the TV thing before. I wanted to go
back to coaching. But just watching this year, I mean,
James Madison tore them apart at home. Yeah, you got
rolled up by a Boston college team. And this is
interesting because obviously when we talk about coaching football, Mac
Brown influential, influential guy. You know, just we talk about

(02:09):
the Cowboys, but you know he sent players to the
Cowboys just but yep, today gone. Greg Ellis one of
the Cowboy coaches. Greg played for him, And I remember
it at the time when the Cowboys selected Greg Eallis
over over Randy Moss, mac Brown stood on the table
and said, hey, look, Greg Ellis is a guy want
maybe sitting my kid.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
No, no doubt.

Speaker 4 (02:27):
Greg has proven to be that guy, salt the Earth guy,
great human being, great person.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Special person, all of that.

Speaker 4 (02:33):
And when you're you know, the thing about it is
is from a recruiting standpoint, from a future of the
program standpoint, when you're seventy three and you don't really
have an air apparent in place, that's always gonna be
issue a recruiting It's always gonna be a question. It's
a year to your thing. First of all, we're all
year to year, We're all day to day, they say,
But certainly as a coach, you know, it's it's a

(02:53):
day to day thing, year to your thing, and those
are questions that recruits and everybody's gonna have to hear.
You're not having a good season. You're trying to build
a program, you know. So uh, I know, he didn't
want to step down, you know, and so they they
kind of in Texas, they made the decision for him
and in the best interest of the program. So kudos

(03:14):
de Mac for the career he had with certainly success
he had of Texas. It was a last national championship,
certainly with the help of the great Uh and Uh,
you know, walk off into the sunset.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
He and his wife Sally. Uh. Great people.

Speaker 3 (03:30):
All right, let's dive into these Dallas Cowboys here a
little bit. We just finished listening to Mike McCarthy Jerry
Jones making news and something he's reported on social media
as well. I'll read Jerry's quote when asked by the
guys that won to fight through the fan, is it
crazy to rule out an extension for head coach Mike McCarthy,

(03:52):
And he said, quote, I don't think it's crazy at all.
It's not crazy. Mike McCarthy is an outstanding coach. This
is a Super Bowl winning coach. Mike McCarthy has been there,
done that. He's he has great ideas. In no place
in my body language or anything else, have I I said,
have you seen any indication to what we're going to
be doing with this staff at the end of this year?

(04:13):
We've got a lot of football up translated Jerry translator.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
Well, first of all, what is he supposed to say?
What can he say? It's the middle of the season.
Just got a big win.

Speaker 4 (04:23):
He said numerous times, I'm not making a coaching change
during the season. The fact that during the five game
losing streak, I'm not making a coaching change during the
season tells you there could be one coming after the season.
Said have the big win? What was he supposed to say?
You know to that question. He's not gonna disrespect Mike

(04:44):
on the radio, and he's feeling good about to win
and all the other stuff.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
You know.

Speaker 4 (04:48):
But I always go back to the famous Jerry quote.
He's told me that many times. He said that many times,
probably doing off season just because I'll say that, don't
make it so. Just because I said it, don't make.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
It Chris Bean producer, Chris Bean, producer, Chris Bean. Yeah,
what did I say last.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
Show Sleep at the Wheel?

Speaker 3 (05:11):
But I say last year said a lot last show.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
Yeah, they don't remember Chris is doing something just because
I said, don't make it so.

Speaker 3 (05:16):
But but but but I bring that up because that's
that's what I was saying in the last of the
players lines. It's like Jerry said, Jerry's the guy that
said the famous quote. Just because I said it so
doesn't make it so. You're asking him this question fifty
one days after his last win. He's feeling good. Jerry's
the optimistic guy. This is what you say. You're saying
this to him in November. The question asked to him

(05:36):
in January is going to be different, right.

Speaker 4 (05:38):
And and the question asked before the season was different
and his body lamuage before the season suggested you were
thinking about making a change because you don't give him
a contract extension. Okay, you put all the coaches on
one year deals and you say I'm putting pressure on
the coaches.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
That's indication. That's body language.

Speaker 5 (05:57):
What if I said, you know, what if I the
case not giving you that I can make a coach chay, Well,
cause you didn't give him a new contract, and because
you put all the coaches on what you deal and
you said you were putting you were doing to put
pressure on the coaches, that's that your action said it.

Speaker 3 (06:15):
And then I also follow it up by saying, Jerry
can tell us all this about Mike. He's the owner
of the club. Now, he can walk down the hallway,
throw down a piece of paper, say here's four more years,
let's do this right now.

Speaker 4 (06:30):
Yeah, he could do all of that. So I mean, again,
I think Mike's a good coach. I think Mike's been
a good coach. I think Mike's doesn't get credit for
the success he's had here. You know, his first year
lost DAK for eleven games, next three years is twelve
and five. Certain that they didn't get it done in
the playoffs. Some of that's on him. Somebody's on a
lot of different things. But you know, the Wednesday's had,

(06:52):
this team has never quit on him, not in twenty twenty,
not this year. You know, he he does a good
job of taking care of the players and managing the roster,
the roster that he was given by the front office,
certainly coming into this season. You know, a season where
your job is on the line, so to speak, where
you don't have a deal, and that just says it all.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
When you don't have a deal for next year, it
says your job is on the line.

Speaker 4 (07:15):
It says that if you don't reach a certain threashold
that you won't get a new deal. You don't have
to fire anybody. You just don't have to give a
new contract, you know, and you don't have to give
a contract.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
It's changed.

Speaker 4 (07:24):
So that in itself says a lot, you know.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
Big time.

Speaker 4 (07:30):
And then he got coach calling, you got stopping then uh.

Speaker 3 (07:34):
Texas coach is calling longhod is gonna send somebody to
Carolina what.

Speaker 4 (07:39):
We got and and and then you got you know
that they didn't really do anything to improve the team,
you know, so you know, so how do you there's a.

Speaker 3 (07:46):
Lot of holes in this He was giving a team
that had a lot of.

Speaker 4 (07:49):
Holes, and they tried to you know, they had a
lot of losses. They tried to patch things up through
the draft, which is generally not.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
How you want to do.

Speaker 4 (07:57):
What you want to feel needs and redcy so you
can be you know, pure in the draft. And so
they really reached in the draft to fill needs and
got a lot of young guys. So you know, you know,
you wait too late to side CD and Dak and
Seed evens all trying to ge.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
So there are a lot of moving parts of this season.

Speaker 4 (08:14):
That and then you added the injuries and a lot
of things that have prevented Mike from having a year.
You know, what I said at the beginning was the
season of the brink from Mike and the Cowboys, considering
what was at stake from having a season to half.

Speaker 2 (08:27):
But he's done a good job of managing this team.

Speaker 3 (08:31):
I go back in a stat that the Cowboys put
out in the prese the pregame notes, which is with
a win on Thursday, Mike McCarthy tics Bill Parcells for
fourteenth all time wins in the National Football League. And
when you say the name Bill Parcells, that gives you
immediate respect in the league and that Mike is going
to tie him. Mike as a Super Bowl winning coach,

(08:52):
like Jerry said. And I bring that up to say, guys,
as frustrated as people are, and obviously you look at
your social media feed during the game in the first quarter,
first half of Washington, there was not a whole lot
of folks being very kind of m macarthy on social media.
But I bring that up to save this point. Mike
is a good football coach, like you said, and at
times people lose sight of that. This this has been

(09:16):
a challenging year. But the owner feels good today and
he comes out and it's like he's throwing hopium out there.

Speaker 4 (09:23):
There's no doubt and listen and we can talk about
the next seven We've got a lot to talk about.
You know, it's you know, it was funny because Jaalen
Hurt said, you know, talked about momentum. You know, how
how flimsy momentum is. You know, you can lose it
or gain it an instant, you know. And they were
five game of the street, right, everything was in the dumps.

(09:44):
They win one game. Now they got the Giants come
to town. They win two games, and there's a feeling
at least among them they can flip hope, you know,
and and and and and you know, and so that
that that's part of it, you know. So yeah, I
mean the Cowboys are not my mathematical deliminary Jared talked about,
you know, we're still in this thing. It ain't over yet,

(10:06):
you know, So that when you when you when you
got all and like I said, I've always said, why
would you make any statements definitive about the future of anyone.

Speaker 2 (10:16):
Until it plays out?

Speaker 4 (10:18):
It plays out, especially until you especially as long as
you're still alive, so to speak. And you know, they're
a long way from making the playoffs. That's you know,
they got a social consistency. But you know, they got
four teams coming up with losing records, you know, and
and and I would say, you know, it's funny because

(10:43):
the worst loss on the Cowboys schedule.

Speaker 2 (10:47):
It was to the Saints, a bad team.

Speaker 4 (10:49):
But they want a bad team then, But everybody else's
contending teams. They ain't lost no Punk so to speak,
you know what I'm saying. They ain't lost to no Atlanta.

Speaker 3 (10:57):
Atlanta could make the playoffs. Baltimore Ship.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
They lost all contending teams.

Speaker 4 (11:02):
They you know, you know, they have not lost to
any abusinal franchise, you know, and the Saints, you know,
since they had that parade, you know, they went down
to the adults.

Speaker 2 (11:10):
You know, probably little car coach but oh that's tough.

Speaker 4 (11:13):
But you know, so uh now they get to, hopefully
for their sake, if they can get healthy and certainly
you don't have Dax still, but you know, get fat
on some bad teams.

Speaker 2 (11:24):
Of course, they got to win at home. That's the fun.

Speaker 4 (11:25):
That's that's the crazy thing about it is not all
the winds have come on the road. Of course, as
I said before, the teams they played home and pretty good,
you know they you know again you got the Ravens
and you got the Lions and the Eagles and you
know Texas. I mean, they've played some good teams at home,
you know, you know, outside the Saints, which we thought.

Speaker 2 (11:47):
We too they was gonna be coming back. They scoring
forty points a game, back then. So Caroll, now now
you've got Now you got the giants at home. We'll
see if we'll see if that Kate.

Speaker 4 (11:59):
Went at home holds up against a two and nine
jiz team with Danny de Vito's nephew player.

Speaker 3 (12:05):
Well, yeah, said Danny. Videos Uh, well he Tommy DeVito
may not even play.

Speaker 2 (12:09):
I know he's hurt.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
He may not play. So we'll see. We'll see. Okay,
when we.

Speaker 2 (12:14):
Come back, let's dive into Jerry on tanking.

Speaker 3 (12:20):
Let's get into that because Jerry spoke about it. Michael
Parsons just spoke about the locker room, spoke about yesterday,
the whole tanking because of some of you folks out
there had these dreams of Travis Hunter or some other
type of player.

Speaker 2 (12:30):
Shador Sanders crazy.

Speaker 3 (12:32):
I would hope somebody's not doing that.

Speaker 2 (12:34):
But okay, no, that's that's the Mike, Mike ivn mac Ivin.

Speaker 3 (12:39):
I had lunch today as somebody was brought up Michael
Irvin again, that's anyway, Claire see all knew he spoke.

And that's the future in his business.

I'd love to get his insights on the whole move
for the pack from the Pac twelve to the Big
ten for him, just that adjustment of all that that
entail being a die harder.

Speaker 4 (15:38):
And it had such a good year last year. Coach
is gone the Washington they won their playoff game, so
they you know again, I mean.

Speaker 2 (15:52):
Again, it's still Washington again, losing our coach. Okay, coach,
rememberhen not step up for us?

Speaker 4 (16:00):
Alabama want to step up our coat. He used to
be your coach. He used to be the coach of Washington.
He would Alabama one and he left there too. He
that was a steppingstone. Step it was steppingstone. Drop your coach.
Used to be the coaching instead stepping stone drop him to.

Speaker 3 (16:14):
Okay, Okay, well all I know is they they they
beating him twice the Super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (16:22):
There was still a steppingstone doing something right. There's something
still stepping stone, steppingstone.

Speaker 3 (16:27):
They beat you, you beat you to step on, move on.
That's okay, okay, good luck this week, good luck this weekend. Sir. Yes,
I'm I'm I'm picked. I picked you to win. Don't
let me down.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
You know that's Quinn's ankle.

Speaker 3 (16:43):
Got you got our track, you got you got to
save your gun in there. So there you go. Cowboys
taking on the Giants Thursday, three o'clock over Cherry World.
This is a a national game. Everybody gets this game.
Everybody remembers where, you know, what they were doing, you know,
as they grew up watching you know, Cowboys at this time.

(17:06):
The word tanking was hit about two weeks ago when
the Cowboys got blown out at home on Monday night
and you started looking at that to see where they
were the draft standing. They beat Washington and afterwards, Michael Parsons,
you know you were there. It's like, now, I'm not
here to tank. And then yesterday in the locker room,
Cooper bb is talking about not tanking. Take us through
the mindset to so people out there have a better

(17:29):
understanding of what the players and coaches are thinking.

Speaker 2 (17:32):
Well, you know that's just it. I mean.

Speaker 4 (17:36):
The five game losing streak. Fans like, okay, we have
nothing leough to Jack dak is gone. We're not making
the playoffs. The smart play is too. You have a
lot of the heats on paper, the smart plays to
play for a draft pick, you know, it's what the
Giants are doing.

Speaker 2 (17:54):
They benchday quarterback and go to the thirst string quarterback.
They tanking.

Speaker 4 (17:59):
They're sure they get a top pick so they can
draft a quarterback or whatever else. And so there are
people out there, draft knicks and everybody else who are
focused on the draft already and said it would be
who the Cowboys to If you're not going to make
the playoffs, you know, you rather lose get a higher
pick then then be a middling team and prevent yourself

(18:21):
from really trying to improve the team for the future,
because it's about the focus is about what can you
do to win at all and what's going to help.

Speaker 2 (18:29):
You get to that back to the super Bowl.

Speaker 4 (18:32):
Is it finishing eight, nine, nine and eight, making the playout,
not making the playoffs, have a middling draft pick, or
to get a high pick. And so that's the mindset
of people who are on team tank, and a lot
of people are on team tank. That's never the mindset
of the players gonna lock them with playing for the jobs.
You you know, the Cavante Turpens of the world.

Speaker 2 (18:51):
And you know.

Speaker 4 (18:54):
The young fellow Josh you know, who had the big
game Sunday, So you know, this is his livelihood.

Speaker 2 (19:00):
I'm playing for my life.

Speaker 3 (19:02):
So also talking about something, you know, let's let's dive
more into the conversation. So on like comminitation. They're guys
who contracts are up.

Speaker 4 (19:08):
Yes, they need more than thirty guys who had on
one year deals.

Speaker 2 (19:12):
It's not just the coaching staff, you know.

Speaker 4 (19:15):
And so you know the Josh Butler's of the world,
who just praying and hoping and waiting, was on the
TV show All American, you know, who been on a
credit squad and for a couple of years, and he
finally got his opportunity to play against Washington and showed
out first underrepped the fridge and have twelve tackles, three

(19:36):
pass breakups.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
In a second a game. You know, he showed out.

Speaker 4 (19:40):
This guy's not out there trying to lose. He's trying
to put they He's trying to survive in this league.
And you guys got like Michael, you know, A kidded
with Michael last week, I said, mikeel I don't know
if you're gonna make double digit sacks.

Speaker 2 (19:51):
You know, if you're gonna make it, you a long
way away.

Speaker 4 (19:53):
I think he had three, you know before the Washington
he had two against Washington. After the game, class were
you know, you know he's trying to get you still
got you know, six some games to go.

Speaker 2 (20:04):
But yeah, I mean, but people have things to play for.

Speaker 4 (20:06):
Mike McCarthy's not trying to lose, and and as Mike said,
we need to win.

Speaker 2 (20:11):
We deserve to win.

Speaker 4 (20:12):
It just it just it's just not good, you know,
And it's not good karma when you're trying to lose
and lose it it bleeds in the next season, it
bleeds in the offseason. And so an organization is not
trying to tank, Jerry said, has never come up in
their conversation. They want to cause Jerry don't want to
be saying we're tanking and have that stadium empty. You know,

(20:33):
that's not what looking for. Mike McCarty certainly ain't trying
to do that. That on his resume, on his coaching record.
You talked about him closing it on on Bill Parselves
at the top fourteen coach all time, h Cooper Rush.
Those guys are trying to win. They're trying to stand
in Cooper Rush is a free agent. They're trying to
show people that they can play in this league. So

(20:54):
that's not on their agenda, that's not there on their
schedule to tank.

Speaker 3 (20:58):
And you talk about guys wanting to put together tape
for next year. And so if you're a guy like
Austin Richards, you're t J Bash, you're brock Hoffmin, you're
sitting around here saying, what can my future be here
with this team? And this is your opportunity through some
adversities to show hey, this I'm someone you get count
on it or as you know, like say hey go

(21:19):
draft somebody else, right, you're good here.

Speaker 2 (21:21):
I'm fighting like here. And brock Hoffmin is a fighter.

Speaker 4 (21:23):
He fights, He fights and practice he fights all the time,
fighting out there on at the game on Sunday. You know,
we all know that that Zach Martin might not be
here next year, you know, and TJ Basketball company and
fight and say who maybe can be the starting guard?
And they need somebody step and be the starting guards.
That's one less position they have to go after free agency.

(21:44):
One less position they have to gouse and draft. Jared
talked about we got a young lot of young guys play.
Everybody talking about playing for the future, for our futures
right here. We want to get these guys rep so
they can be part of our future and part of
taking that next step back to prominence, if that's where
they're trying to go with Dak Prescott.

Speaker 3 (22:03):
For the fans, hopefully they understood the whole segment here
of just hey, they're professionals.

Speaker 4 (22:09):
And fans understand. Is that what you're asking me? What
you say, hopefully fans I mean, because let's be honest,
there are a lot of fans who was this illusion
coming into the season about the lose they didn't move,
they didn't make, and they were frustrated about the lack
of playoff wins and successful last thirty years, and then
the season goes off the rails, and so then they

(22:30):
resigned themselves, well, at least we can get a high pick.

Speaker 2 (22:33):
You know.

Speaker 4 (22:34):
So now they man, well they can't even they can't
even lose, right, they messing up the high pick.

Speaker 2 (22:39):
They can't do nothing right.

Speaker 4 (22:41):
So you're asking fans to understand when they've already they
resigned themselves that we're probably not gonna take that next
step coming in this season because we didn't do enough.
Then we started losing like nobody's business. And now so
now the hope is we're gonna get a high pick.
You know, either we're gonna draft the great player, We're
gonna trade down to get multiple players to really take
that next stepped towards the Super Bowl. And now you

(23:02):
can't even lose right.

Speaker 3 (23:03):
Watching the Scooter recruiter social media video, but no so
so I also, I'll say this, yes we heard that.
We saw that on timeline to our social media. It
was on it was on the postgame show where Brian
brought us was about to pull his the last little
bits of his hair out uh with fan Sunday. I
said the last little bit. I don't know.

Speaker 4 (23:28):
Anyway, I'm trying it down on Brian. I love Brian,
but we all love Brian. But but but what Brian was.

Speaker 2 (23:33):
Looked like dude from back in the future, and he was.

Speaker 3 (23:35):
Frustrated that wait a minute, they just won a game
and you're calling as you're mad about a draft pick,
and Brian coming from the scouting side of like, man,
people don't put in all this work during the week
so they can go loose. So they hope that hey,
we can say we were going to to go draft
seventh instead of eleventh in the draft.

Speaker 2 (23:52):
So and it's.

Speaker 4 (23:53):
Crazy to meuse Cowboy fans, Washington, this is your rival,
and I don't care what. There's a lot of rivals,
and you know, but Washington, this old back that's tried
and true.

Speaker 2 (24:02):
That's that rival from the George.

Speaker 3 (24:04):
Allen days November game against the Washington and they.

Speaker 4 (24:09):
Their fans were riding high. They thought they made this
great turnaround. And they was after they be whoever they beat,
and they beat somebody a few weeks ago.

Speaker 2 (24:18):
They were chanting after Chicago win.

Speaker 4 (24:19):
They beat Chicago with the hell, Mary, we won't Dallas,
we won't They That what it's like, Oklahoma fans doing
horns down they playing Alabama.

Speaker 2 (24:29):
Okay, Dallas is always in their minds. Okay, always in.

Speaker 4 (24:33):
Their heads, and it was in their heads. Cowboy's always
been Washington the heads. And they're chatting and the Cowboys
go and beat them in the way they beat them
with the crazy game, and fans are mad.

Speaker 2 (24:46):
They should be reveling. They shouldn't be excited. They should
be like God again, that's what the fans should be.

Speaker 3 (24:52):
Now there are there were plenty of those other fans
out there too who were happy to see the win,
that were happy to see Washington go down. So unfortunately
they got drowned out. Because usually we pay attention to
the foolishness, you know, we do, we do. We give
the foolishness more credit than we should. But I would

(25:14):
say this as somebody who picked against the Cowboys to win.
It was fun to watch those guys make plays and
it was fun to watch Cavante turnin hit the spin
move go up there. It was cool to see Schoonmaker
who's been struggling, catch a touchdown, and to watch Butler
make a play, to see Deron Bland get back out there.
That was fun to see and good to see because

(25:35):
the other part of it, we know these we know them,
we're around them.

Speaker 2 (25:39):
We see that.

Speaker 3 (25:40):
You don't want to open you know, you man lose
for a draft pick. That's not my mindset and I
don't play. But just watching that team win was cool. Yeah,
after five weeks bro forty nine days between, and it
is crazy to make everybody.

Speaker 4 (25:56):
I was talking about other fans taking over a Tandy stadium,
and I always say it's one hundred thousand seats. The
Cowboys can sell seventy thousand seats, right, which is bigger
than some folks. Whole State's bigger than the Texas team.
Every was taxat s tamement on the hold six six thousand, Yeah,
something like that. They can sell seventy thousand, eighty thousand
season tickets. It's still gonna be twenty thousand opposing fans

(26:18):
in there.

Speaker 2 (26:19):
And when you're losing, and when the Cowboys win, they're
gonna be loud.

Speaker 4 (26:23):
You're gonna hear them. And so that's not an indictment.
Everybody's like Dicey Journey. Let all these people, well, you
go to Washington. There were a lot of blue jerseys,
always a lot of blue jerseys. When that fourth quarter,
when the fay rete, when the Washington fans left, a
lot of blue jerseys.

Speaker 2 (26:39):
Were loud and proud and having a good time. She'd
have seen it.

Speaker 4 (26:44):
This was the longest I've seen the Cowboys come off
the field because they were celebrating with fans and Cop
five and because we were waiting in the hallway wait
for the players, and it was the longest processional off
the field because they were having a good time, because
there was so many Cowboy fans.

Speaker 2 (26:58):
They're reveling in it.

Speaker 3 (26:59):
I don't know if you recall the time if they
allowed you guys down on the field back then before
they took the passes to restricted us with the pregame access.
But the time when John Wall was the star player
for the Wizards and he showed up. I was there
Emmitt Smith's jersey.

Speaker 2 (27:13):
Remember I was there. I was on the field.

Speaker 3 (27:15):
That's that's the kind of juice the Cowboys have up
there in the DMV area.

Speaker 4 (27:20):
Yeah, and jay Z was on the field his passa
because you couldn't get down there and getting next to
jay Z.

Speaker 3 (27:24):
It taught to Noah noa.

Speaker 2 (27:26):
And when I got the TV guys are down there, Well, I'm.

Speaker 3 (27:28):
Just saying, that's why you get the restrictions.

Speaker 2 (27:30):
Sound Yeah, we can't get down with TV guys are
always down there. Yeah no, Yeah, jay Z was there.

Speaker 4 (27:34):
Daz Bryant was there in the sweet with jay Z too,
celebrating giving him hell yeah.

Speaker 3 (29:52):
Media Mash Cowboys getting ready to take on the Giants
Thanksgiving Day. The Giants are in a tailspin. They cut
Daniel owns their replacement for Daniel Jones. Tommy DeVito is
he's got practicing today. He's dealing with injuries. Don't know
what happened with him on Thursday. So if he doesn't start,
that means uh, Drew Lock could be Drew Lot former

(30:13):
Missouri Tiger will start. We got Clarence Hill all City Dallas.

Speaker 2 (30:18):
A lot of.

Speaker 3 (30:18):
Injuries, not just for the Giants, but the Cowboys got
a lot of injuries.

Speaker 9 (30:21):
He had.

Speaker 3 (30:22):
The injury report is deep for the Cowboys here. As
this last game, Zach Martin didn't play. Uh uh, Tyler
Smith didn't play, So they're starting to guards weren't there.
They're starting tight end. Jake Ferguson was out here, so
Deron Bland they're starting Derond Blair Drohn. Bland was back,
but the other starting corner, Travon Diggs was out. So
what do we know so far here?

Speaker 4 (30:41):
Well, uh, Cooks could be a go this week. He
wasn't ready to go last with Bretton to cook. So
obviously Debron Bland came through the game. Okay, we went
through the walk through you know, yesterday and he should
be practicing to day. Diggs is expected to get do
something on the Princeville today. Uh, certainly the same. Tyler
goutden is he didn't play last week. He should be
back this week, you know, I don't you know, obviously

(31:04):
Jake Fergus is probably not a goal, you know, with
the concussion in a short week. Probably the same thing
for jack Mark. Arson Richards had a great game. It
was a talk of him possibly earning the start, but
he's now out. He has a high ankle spring. But
like I said, Tyler Guiden should be good. Tyler Smith
has a chance to play again this week. You know,
Ceedee Lamb the Warrior. He's going to continue to play

(31:25):
through whatever he's dealing with. So you know, it's gonna
be some questions, but you know, hopefully if you get
we may finally see Diggs and Bland on the field
together for the first time and something that you know
they've been looking for for all seasons.

Speaker 3 (31:39):
Go back into awesome Richards who during the game they
benched their first round pick, Tyler got benched and Austin
Richards came in there.

Speaker 4 (31:48):
It was part of rotation. They were rotating them. They
were rotating the tackles. Okay, that's that's the official word.
They were rotating because they were rotating. Thank you for
the clarification, so but guiding to improve his penalty he
played when he was playing, he did okay.

Speaker 2 (32:03):
It was the penalty that.

Speaker 4 (32:05):
Yes drive killers and Mike McCarthy talked about that yesterday
that he has to get rid of that their killer.

Speaker 2 (32:10):
He has to get rid of the penalty.

Speaker 3 (32:12):
And so stay with me on Richards, and you talked
about he was playing well in that game and it
could have got to start, which meant that the rotation
ended up proving that he won the rotation here not
playing this week out for the high ankle spring. But
going into twenty twenty five, you've got Richards who's shown
you okay, can he can help you at worst be

(32:33):
your swing tackle most definitely? But with Geyton and then
Terrence Steele who's not had a good year at all.
And one thing we know about this league is they'll
go back and look at your contract and ask is
it need to be adjusted or they need to move along?
What is his future in your opinion right now?

Speaker 4 (32:51):
Well, that's the question I mean, because you know you
saw what happened to Michael Gallop and the money coming
in issue not living up to the money you know,
we can save some money. You know, there's thought processes
of you know, what does Awesoin Merchant look like? Is
he better left tackle? Can you move Gutting back to
the right tackle with this position in college? You know, uh,
he was a right tackle in college. You know, would
he'd be more comfortable over there? And could you know

(33:13):
that bow well for the future. You know, these are
all decisions for the off season, you know, and that's
one reason why you want to see these guys playing.
You you know, it's so disappointed to the Cowboys that
that Richards has a high gospraying it's gonna be out
for a couple of weeks, you know, get Michael Parser's
out four weeks with higk Spray, you know, and and
you know, because you don't you want to see that development.
You want to see him continue to go and get

(33:33):
out in the envelopal, so that that that's a huge setback.
And of course that's been the story of the season
with the Cowboys, all these injuries and guys they were
counting on them to play or see or develop.

Speaker 2 (33:43):
You know, it's been setbacks.

Speaker 3 (33:45):
Well, I asked Brian shott Hyer a couple of weeks
ago about Luke's schoon Maker and he said confidence was
an issue for Scooning got to have a lot of
confidence after catching a touchdown pass in this game and
then the last two weeks being able to play and
make contributions.

Speaker 4 (33:59):
Now you need to go on the step up of
schooneye and and Brevern span Ford undrafted rooking for Minnesota.
He had a good showing and he can block and
do some of the things. Uh because before last week's
I think school he had played three snaps in the
previous two games. You know, they were down on him back,
you know, and they was forced to play in because

(34:20):
Jake Ferguson got hurt against Houston the first quarter, and
he you make the most of the opportunities you get
a chance to play, you got to show up, you know.
That's one thing that Josh Butler did. He had been
waiting and laboring and behind guys that we clearly see
now that he was better than you know at cornerback,
and when he got a chance to play, he was
ready to play. And so that's what Schoolmaker did and
certainly Brever Spanfo they've stepped up, which is, you know,

(34:41):
good for the room. Going forward because you know what
you haveving Jake Ferguson. Now you add those guys to
the mix and you feel good about that position going forward. Again,
Loudwell's tight end coach has done a great job with
those tight ends.

Speaker 3 (34:55):
I started to think about twenty twenty five all the
time as the season is going on here and you're me,
I think you're finding a couple of pieces where you say, okay,
all right, you know, Awesome Richards, here's a guy that
we can look towards, especially since Matt will let's go
and Josh Baul never became players. Right that, Okay, you've
got something in Awestome Richards, TJ. Bass, brock Hoffman. They

(35:17):
win in the game and they played well, so you've
got that there. And then you talked about the young
the tight ends branding is because look right now, we've
been looking at Luke Schoonmaker, Majie Smith, the kids from
Michigan who went one and two in the draft. Said, man,
these guys aren't cutting it done. They're not getting it
done at all. So I just head back to back
good games. Had a solid game last week. He's part
of the defensive turnaround. They were pretty good against it wrong,

(35:39):
and that was what we're looking at here. And now
you're seeing these guys make contributions, and as you're going
into twenty five, that gives you some hope that you say, Okay, hey, look,
maybe maybe places we thought we needed needed to address,
maybe we don't have.

Speaker 2 (35:54):
You sound like Jared Jones. You sound like Jared Joe.

Speaker 4 (35:56):
That kind of what I'm saying is that's what Jerry
was saying on the when people were talking about tanking.

Speaker 2 (36:02):
Hey, we got the young guys. We're looking for a future.

Speaker 4 (36:04):
You guys talking about tanking or get young guy. We
got a lot of young guys playing. They need to play,
they need to develop, and they need to win. They
need to get these reps. Okay, And as they're getting
these reps, they're trying to win, and so that only
boats well for the future. When you got these young
guys and you're trying to develop and trying to see

(36:24):
everybody kind of trying to you don't have to purposely tank,
you know, you don't have to purposely play young guy. Organically,
these things happen because you got guys that are injured,
and you have to put these guys there out there
and see, you know when people talk about tanking, they're
talking about what the Giants did when they just benched
their quarterback and then play the third stringer, you know,
or the Jets. The Cowboys have had enough injuries that

(36:45):
you know, to me, I call it a little bit
of organic tank because you got all these injuries and
so you know, when you're already losing, you got to
play young guys. You think, well, they're gonna try to win,
but we don't know if they're gonna win. Well, the
good news is they did win. These guys did take
a step forward. These guys are getting the benefit of
development because they're out there on the field, and that

(37:06):
bowls well for the future.

Speaker 3 (37:08):
So let's kind of go back a little bit toward coaching.

Speaker 2 (37:10):
Right now.

Speaker 3 (37:13):
This is a midst of a bad season for the Cowboys,
people didn't expect. But then I look at the Giants,
and then I look at the Jets. What's going on there?

Speaker 4 (37:22):
And got Jets who did spend money, who did go
and get a receiver and and just do some.

Speaker 3 (37:29):
Things use draft capital, go get Davanta Adams. Yeah, that's
where I look in terms of for fan base, for
the fans who were just except Mike catches a lot
of heat. Guys, have you seen some other places here,
no doubt if you've seen what's going on in Gotham City,

(37:49):
that is that is bad. What's going on in god
And I don't know who's worse.

Speaker 4 (37:54):
Got them city, Jacksonville's oh, oh, Las Vegas.

Speaker 2 (37:58):
It's a lot of Oakland, Yes, yes, yes, I'm sorry.

Speaker 4 (38:03):
A lot of bad situations, a lot of bad teams,
a lot of bad stuff going on out there. And again,
these guys not quit on Mike. You know, they have
not quit on Mike. They can need to play Mic.
They're trying to wear for Mike. And the good news is,
as you see, they're taking hold to the teaching, you know,
the improvement on defense, and the defense has improved. You know,
you look at that game, you say it was a

(38:24):
wild game. It is Washington, but that what that defense
did for.

Speaker 2 (38:27):
Three and a half.

Speaker 3 (38:27):
Threw for three and a half.

Speaker 4 (38:28):
Course, ma, you know, you give up that final drive
and you give up that inexplicable eighty six yard touchdown,
but the defense played well for three and a half quarters.
Becaust a quarterback that everybody said with the future of
the league and MVP candidate.

Speaker 2 (38:40):
It's not always.

Speaker 4 (38:41):
It just frustrates me so much because that gets so
much hate and people try to say, well Daniels is
better than that, and see this drive better that. Let
them boys play, Let's see what they got, Let's see
what the league does. They coming back to the pack
to a certain extent, you know that can you tell
that that that that college offense?

Speaker 3 (38:59):
That uh king spirits the coach bro You know people
people get taped and they start figuring you out here
are we are we good with bones fossil.

Speaker 2 (39:08):
I mean special team? Yes, we're good with bones fossil.
I mean that that wasn't because.

Speaker 4 (39:12):
The kicker milluse the kicker where it was up to
down Sunday you're gonna blame You're gonna blame the block
field goal you got to I mean but he's generally
they haven't had any blocks, but generally, but.

Speaker 2 (39:24):
The miss field goal that was on one of the
miss field goal.

Speaker 3 (39:28):
Yet still do still doing doing doing things.

Speaker 4 (39:32):
Jane should have gone down, you know because you know
it's funny because one year last week I do with
they coach tapping the dude. That was a play we
were coached to. You know this is what we're coached.
I know you were coached to fall down to you
didn't do that once again, bone, yes, because because you
know what they want as bill partials, just say turping.

Speaker 2 (39:56):
Some of his work.

Speaker 4 (39:58):
Turping, some of his work turping is some of his
work in turping is we haven't even talked about that.
That's that's one of the plays, all time great plays
in cowboy's history. Yes, he's the one from all time
great plays in cowboy history. He you know, somebody was
said that his return averages is better than Devin history

(40:19):
in one of his best years.

Speaker 2 (40:21):
You know, that's he's pro bowlers.

Speaker 3 (40:24):
How do you how do you pay him after it?

Speaker 4 (40:27):
I don't know how you pay him. I don't know what
you're paying. And then we let's is he up this year?
Have to is up this year?

Speaker 3 (40:32):
He meant he sounded like he was up to she
wou wasn't even talking like but check.

Speaker 2 (40:38):
I don't, I don't, I don't know.

Speaker 4 (40:39):
I don't worry about that. I just I'm happy for him.
I'm happy for the careers have the career's having, you know, but.

Speaker 3 (40:48):
Yes, there are two pro bowlers are gonna be two
guys they brought back brought over from the us USFL,
the two.

Speaker 4 (40:54):
Lot Pro Bowls. You know, Tylers Smith has a chance
to make it. If Michael gets on the road, he
may have a chance to make it. You know, we'll see,
you know, if he ends up with double dig the sacts,
you know, and everybody goes to the to this, you know,
skipping to go to the Super Bowl, you know, he
might get in there. And I think Jordan Lewis has
had a great season. No one wants to, you know,
really give him credit for the season he's had at cornerback.

(41:15):
He's been one of the most consistent, consistent players on defense.

Speaker 3 (41:20):
By the way, Tank on to we have a date
when we think he could come back.

Speaker 2 (41:23):
No, no, no, no, we don't.

Speaker 4 (41:24):
He I talked to him last week and you know,
we talked about that and he said, you know, he's
gonna take his time and make sure it's healthy because
he wants to play next year, you know, and and
so we'll see.

Speaker 2 (41:33):
But hey, they get back into this thing. See Tank
back on the field.

Speaker 3 (41:38):
Clint Hill, thank you very much. We're out of time.

Speaker 9 (41:41):
You know.

Speaker 2 (41:41):
Then they're gonna get back. You know, she just cut
you out. They gonna win fourth straight.

Speaker 4 (41:46):
They got four games because losing what they win fourth
straight and be eight and seven, four and seven, four straight,
eight and seven. Boy, do you understand the talk around here?
If they get to eight and seven, it would be talking.

Speaker 2 (42:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (42:02):
Do you think do I think the owner would walk
in and mar, you're like a chest out catboy, and
and give the give the head coach a contract.

Speaker 2 (42:13):
I don't know about that, but I know he's gonna
be grinted. He's getting and grinted, and.

Speaker 3 (42:17):
You'll have another great, great, great.

Speaker 2 (42:19):
They gotta win it home. Yeah, to win at home.

Speaker 3 (42:22):
It starts on Thursday, there you go. We'll do it tomorrow,
clans Hill, Thank you much, all right. Producer Chris being
on new Scrutch. This is the Mediamashal Dallas Cowboys dot Com.

Speaker 1 (42:29):
This has been a production of Dallascowboys dot Com and
