Speaker 1 (00:03):
No to Brett McMillan with the Panthers postgame show preseming
by Southern Star Unofficial bourban of the Carolina Panthers celebrate
the Spirit of the Carolinas.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Another heartbreaker for the Panthers as they fall into the
Eagles twenty two sixteen on the road in Philadelphia. This
is three straight games that the Panthers have lost by
one score, a field goal to Kansas City, a field
goal to Tampa Bay in overtime, and now less than
a touchdown at Philadelphia. All these very good teams, and

(00:38):
the Panthers are a much better team than they were
earlier in the season. We'll talk with the Gene Robinson, Mike,
Butchico bat that in a moment. First, we're going to
pause ten seconds for station to a vacation on the
Carolina Panthers Radio network. Hey, welcome back. This is the
Batons post game show presented by Southern Star and official
Bourbon of the Carolina Panthers Celebrate the Spirit of the Carolinas. Said,
you know, Eugene and Mike, we started the year wishing

(01:02):
for a Panthers team that was competitive. They weren't competitive.
They weren't very entertaining. But now over the last five weeks,
this team has turned things around. They're now very competitive,
they're very entertaining and a lot more fun to wash.
But now, Eugene, we've passed the point of watching the
team and I want more, Bru, I want more. Yeah,

(01:27):
that's the frustrating part is they're playing well enough to
win these games.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
But not.

Speaker 4 (01:32):
Yeah. Absolutely, and and you want wins because when you
see the performance over the last three weeks, uh, you know,
taking Kansas City right to to to the end, then
having going overtime, and then taking I mean really tip
for Tad if you will, with Philadelphia. I mean they
went back and forth and we were able to sustain drive.
So now I'm hungry and I'm thirsty, and I want more.

(01:55):
I want more of the Carolina Panthers. And let me
just tell you this too. I think, uh, Bryce Young,
it's playing some exceptional ball. I mean the way the
ball comes out quickly and the way the ball he
anticipates you throwing you open. There were some throws that
he had that if they catch the ball, it's a
different ballgame. It's a different ballgame, and you can see it.

(02:17):
And that's what I'm talking about I want more because
I want the Carolina Panthers to get over that hump.
And once they get over that hump, and it tastes
that it becomes a little bit more contagious. Right now,
that losing seems to be a little bit boma contagious.

Speaker 5 (02:30):
Yeah, And I think we're in that stage now right
where I mean, obviously you would have liked this growth earlier,
but I think you take the growth where you can
take the growth, right, I mean, that's one of those situations.
But you know, I was thinking about this this morning.
You know, you have you know, there's two types of
bad teams. Right There's there's the bad record and they're
just not good. I mean they're miles away.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
Right.

Speaker 5 (02:48):
Then you have teams that don't have a great record,
but maybe they are a few pieces shy, and I
think that's the category we're in. You'd like to leap
frog the next stage, which I would describe as mediocre.
I mean that's like the eight and seven, yeah, you know,
and then then you have you know, you know, a
good record, but not not a super Bowl contender. And
then you have teams with great records they're the super
Bowl contenders, and that's where this team's trying to go.

(03:09):
And I think Aniche said it well too. I mean,
you want to you know, it corresponds with blowout losses,
close losses, close wins, blowout wins, right, and so we're
kind of in that murky area. But what I like
about this team is it's going in the right direction.
Last five games have all been decided by one possession,
though they won the first two against you know, kind
of like competition or lesser competition, and three straight against

(03:31):
tough teams, and they've been right there at the very end.
I mean, we're trending in the right direction. That's the
that's the positive sign I think you take out of
and Bryce Young is playing better.

Speaker 4 (03:39):
You know, one of the things going into this game,
you had to keep Philadelphia's offense off the field. We
were able to do that. We had to call the
ball for like thirty three almost thirty four minutes. That
is a long time against the Philadelphia And if you
want to stifle say Kwan Barkley and not have them
have two hundred something yards he had a whole one
hundred plus yards, you got to you gotta limit the

(04:00):
number of touches. I thought we were able to do
that effectively. I thought coach Knalen's was able to get
this defense on and off the field at times good
and then offense able to control some drives and sustain things.
Winning the possession of time differential, I think is huge
moving forward because the last couple of games we didn't

(04:22):
win that thirty four against four minutes that Kansas City
had the ball, thirty four minutes that Tampa Bay had
the ball to our twenty seven, twenty six minutes. This
time is a reversal. So you're right, we are trending
in the right direction. But as all the other Carolina
path of fans, I want more.

Speaker 5 (04:38):
But there have been four drives today. There were five
minutes or more. And you know, when we've seen this
team in the past, whether it's back in the Jake
Delomei or in the Cam Newton era, it was sustaining drives.
This was five, six, seven, eight minute drives and it
was you know, the one thing the defense wasn't able
to do today that could have been the turn of
the tide, which was the difference for the Eagles was

(05:00):
they didn't force the turnover.

Speaker 4 (05:01):
Exactly what how did we get one turn of interception? No, no,
we didn't get.

Speaker 6 (05:06):
It's not gonna no no, no.

Speaker 4 (05:08):
Defensively yeah no no no.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
But you talk about the top of possession, I mean
the two Panther touchdown drives. Seven that's more than half
a quarter, I know. Yeah, And the other one was.

Speaker 5 (05:20):
They had two seven minute drives.

Speaker 6 (05:21):
Yeah, and the other one was.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
Also over seven minutes. It was let's see, how long
was it?

Speaker 5 (05:27):
Yeah, that was it was the missfield goal was seven
fifty three and then the.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
Other the other touchdown drive was also over seven minutes.
And then the drive in the fourth quarter where they
decided to go for in a fourth and two at
the twenty seven Yeah, instead of kick a field goal
that was five minutes and ten seconds. Oh, seven to
fifty three was the other Yeah, the other touchow And
that's what you want to see, you that's good ball control.
And I thought a lot of it too, is that

(05:53):
you have a really good running game. Coach Canalis lean
on those guys, lean on it because now it makes
bresh Young so much more effective. And the fact that
Tuba was I mean ninety two maybe ninety three yards
We're run there.

Speaker 4 (06:06):
But it was impressive. It just it was sustainable and
they came at the right time. And for that standpoint,
I'm like, Wow, you know what, when you got a
good offense that's going on like that running the ball,
you're gonna be able to throw the ball.

Speaker 7 (06:21):
Now.

Speaker 4 (06:21):
One thing I would say this, I want to get
I think the guy on offense, who's your guy to
get the ball to put in his hand, is steeling,
stealing And to me, the way he runs his routes,
the way he gets open, the way he catches the rock.
He is the most surehanded, reliable receiver that you have.
Kind of reminds me of Steve Largen when I played
for the Seattle Seahawks. He's just so reliable and you

(06:43):
need that. Bryce needs that right now to catch those cast.

Speaker 5 (06:48):
Football especially when you're getting third and short situations. Yes,
because then the defense has to respect the possibility of
a play action face or run. If and the Panthers
do that, then that gives that I'm feeling a little
bit maybe more space.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
You know, we'll talk about this as a show goes on,
because I think you saw today right now, the margin
for error for the Panthers is still very thin. The
one turnover at the end of the first half. The
Eagles were able to turn that into a touchdown. When
the Panthers had the opportunity to run out the clock,
at least run out the clock at the end of
the first half, we're un able to do that. Panthers

(07:18):
got four sacks to one for Philadelphia, and yet at
the same time, Philadelphia was able to overcome those and
you know, and still get the win, overcome the.

Speaker 6 (07:30):
You know, the loss of time and possession, and still
get to win.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
So that's that we we're talking about it. And the
drops that the Panthers had in the receiving corps, you know.
And the one that's going to get spotlighted over and
over again was in that final drive. Absolutely when Lagett
got behind the defense, made a diving grab and couldn't
hold onto the ball rolled into the end.

Speaker 6 (07:51):
So it would have been a touchdown, the Panthers would
have been ahead.

Speaker 4 (07:53):
And I got to give coach Canadis a lot of
credit be calling him a couple of plays because, uh,
the one I think that when like get went across
the middle and maybe Slay knocked it out of his
hands to set it might have been trembled down the field.
There was a man running deep down the field that
Bryce didn't see. And then Bryce comes back to get
on that long, deep pattern. He was able in a

(08:15):
situation when you know they got it, you gotta get deep.
Coach Canalis was able to get down the field. That
is so refreshing, and that's refreshing the quarterback because now
that's why Bryce was able to hit leget and I
was hoping to get would have pulled the ball in,
but he didn't. But at least you're threatening down there
and you're keeping people at bay, and you're doing what
you was supposed to do from an offensive standpoint by

(08:37):
threatening the defense that's.

Speaker 6 (08:39):
Still to come your way.

Speaker 2 (08:39):
Over the next hour here on the Southern Star Bourbon
postgame show, we'll go over the scores from the early games.
Get you up today there, we'll have highlights from today's
ball game. Get the final thoughts from Jim and a
Niche and current from Philadelphia. We'll hear from Dave Canalis
and the players as well. You're listening to the Carolina
Panthers Radio Network. Hey, welcome back back of America Stadium.

(09:04):
Along with Gene Robinson and Mike Pachico on Brett McMillan.
This is the Panthers' postgame show, presented by Southern Star
and official bourbon of the Carolina Panthers. Celebrate the spirit
of the Carolinas. Panthers fall to the Eagles twenty two
to sixteen today, a dan which Chuba Hubbard topped one
thousand yards on the season for the.

Speaker 6 (09:21):
First time gradually in his career.

Speaker 2 (09:23):
The postgame scoreboard brought to you by the North Carolina
Education Lottery and Digital Instance. It's a whole new way
to win mobile games and loads of real cash prizes
registered to play Digital Instance today. So, Mike, what else
is going on around the league?

Speaker 5 (09:36):
All right? So going down to the wire in the Meadowlands,
the Giants at home trailing fourteen to eleven. There is
about thirty two seconds left to go. It's gonna be
fourth and ten for the Giants Miami and at home
against the Jets that one also coming down to the
wire twenty six to twenty three. Jets, Miami has the
ball fifteen seconds to go. Just underway, Arizona seven to

(09:56):
nothing over Seattle, Big NFC West battle there in the
finals from earlier today, Sam Donald improves the Vikings to
eleven and two, twenty two of twenty eight, three hundred
and forty seven yards, five touchdowns and no donalds. They
beat the Atlanta Falcons, so the Falcons now six and seven.
Tampa Bay they get the win at home over Las Vegas,

(10:17):
so they're now seven and six. Baker Mayfield threw for
two hundred ninety five yards, three touchdowns, two interceptions. Jacksonville
winning on the road to Tennessee ten to six, so
not a high scoring affair there. Mac Jones leading the
Jaguars to the victory with two hundred and twenty yards
in the air tank. Bigsby had a touchdown in that game,
and Pittsburgh at home beats Cleveland twenty seven to fourteen.

(10:40):
Russell Wilson fifteen of twenty six hundred fifty yards, two touchdowns,
no interceptions, and Jameis Winston throws two interceptions, and.

Speaker 4 (10:48):
Then Jamis Winston is that guy that sometimes he's gonna
throw lost great eight touchdousand and nine interceptions.

Speaker 5 (10:54):
The next time, Yeah, dress got a first down, so
it's first and ten here with.

Speaker 2 (10:59):
Second has just fallen off the face of the earth.
You know, they were the runaway with a division like
three weeks ago. Now the sudden Tampa is in first
place at seven and six, I know.

Speaker 4 (11:09):
And they drew first blood on Minnesota back and soo
it looked like they were going to go put some
work in. But man, Sam Donald, gotta give him some credit.

Speaker 5 (11:15):
Man, he's playing well.

Speaker 4 (11:16):
You've been playing extremely well.

Speaker 5 (11:17):
He's palling. So Buffalo is at the La Rams that
little about eight minutes away from kickoff. There. We mentioned
Seattle at Arizona, Chicago and San Francisco. That looked like
maybe a good game early in.

Speaker 4 (11:28):
The year, I know, right, but now not so right now.

Speaker 5 (11:31):
No, of course, no Christian McCaffrey in that game. The
Chargers are at the Kansas City at Kansas City tonight
at four to twenty five, and then tonight it's uh,
I'm sorry, that's the mondaynight football game. Chargers at Cincinnati
Kan Say Sunday tonight and then Cincinnati Dallas is the
Monday game tomorrow night.

Speaker 4 (11:50):
And Kansas City gotta be Kennas City got to be.
You can't keep playing close games.

Speaker 5 (11:55):
No, the Chiefs have been they have a lucky rapper.

Speaker 4 (11:57):
You you've been, you've been on the edge.

Speaker 2 (11:59):
That's but that guy's gotta love that that Cincinnati Dallas
matchup looked really came out.

Speaker 4 (12:04):
Yes it did.

Speaker 5 (12:05):
Yeah, that looked good too.

Speaker 3 (12:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (12:06):
Then then the reality, let's see Cincinnati is now what
They're four and eight, Dallas is five and seven.

Speaker 4 (12:12):
In Cincinnati really should have a winning record. They should be.
They should be somewhere like eight nine wins.

Speaker 5 (12:20):
But not I think so well, they have to really
bad start.

Speaker 4 (12:23):
Yep.

Speaker 5 (12:23):
I think I think the first win was.

Speaker 4 (12:25):
Here and and yeah they should have they should have
beaten Kansas City. They had to defensive penalty DPI in
a fourth down situation that if he doesn't hit him,
game over change the whole season.

Speaker 5 (12:38):
That just tells you how close you know, we talked
about having a thin margin of error. I mean that's
all up and down the league.

Speaker 4 (12:44):
It is.

Speaker 6 (12:45):
Well, and then Dallas comes in here next week.

Speaker 5 (12:48):
You would think that's got to be a win, right.

Speaker 4 (12:50):
Oh yeah.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
The way the Panthers are playing right now, I would
certainly think. So we're playing could be favorite in this game.

Speaker 4 (12:56):
We're playing extremely well. And it's a lot it's predicated
upon your quarterback too. They don't have the starting quarterback Prescott. Yeah,
so Cooper Rush has been coming in there, doing doing
this thing. Yeah, but he has not been settled at all.
But Bryce Young has been settled. He looks marvelous. He
looks really really good. And the way he moves in
the pocket and how he lose the defenders he is

(13:17):
picked up yardis that hidden yards that's going on? Extend
the drive. I'm telling you Bryce is really playing some
really good, clean football right now.

Speaker 2 (13:25):
He made that one mistake today and that was the
interception later in the first half through it.

Speaker 6 (13:29):
Yeah, we were talking about it going.

Speaker 2 (13:31):
Into the two minute warning and said, you know, the
Panthers had a third down like three yards to go,
and even though Philadelphia had three time outs left, it
felt like if the Pants got a first down, knowing
that Philadelphi's gonna get the ball first the second half,
you felt like if the Panthers get a first down,
they could at least probably even if they didn't get points,
they could run down the clock and get filled, you know,

(13:51):
keep Philadelphia off of the board. Now, as it turns out,
throw the interception, Philadelphia's gonna get a touchdown.

Speaker 6 (13:58):
Philadelphia does come out and J got.

Speaker 2 (14:01):
That interception, right, Uh, yeah, I think J Gardner believe
that's right.

Speaker 4 (14:07):
Yeah, Johnson.

Speaker 5 (14:09):
Yeah and he uh oh, the Giants just missed a
field goals tied the game up.

Speaker 4 (14:16):
Graham Gano, I think it had to be blocked. It
had to be looked like, like had to be tipped something,
because that ball looked like it just came out like
a wounded a wounded like somebody shot it clear with
a sling shot thrown it.

Speaker 8 (14:36):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (14:36):
Yeah, I looked like you. I looked like they haven't
showed it. But the way the lineman is celebrating, here
you go.

Speaker 6 (14:42):
Here's your replace. Yeah, let's see.

Speaker 4 (14:45):
Oh wow, that's.

Speaker 5 (14:46):
Oh yeah, you know you're supposed to do that.

Speaker 4 (14:49):
You're not supposed to do that anymore. You can't do that.
The Saints gotta the Sains got away with what you
got away.

Speaker 2 (14:56):
With when I met at your Saint That's why. That's
why Brian Davi will look all upset. Oh yeah, uh
waiting for a Pedaly to come back because the guy
jumped right over the c because you can't grab a center. Yeah, Joe,
well did he grab her and just jump right over him? No,
he could, but one one guy grab didnt have due
jumped over the top of him.

Speaker 5 (15:14):
Yep, of course the overbags out in effect in the meadowlands.

Speaker 6 (15:19):
Yes, they are all right, still ahead.

Speaker 2 (15:21):
Here of the post game show, we'll hear from the
head coach, Dave Canallas about the Panthers ball game, highlights
of today's ball game, and a lot more.

No what?

Speaker 9 (16:04):
No So.

Speaker 2 (16:17):
Panthers fall to the Eagles today, one of the best
teams in the NFC twenty two to sixteen the final
You're listening to the Panthers postgame Show presented by Southern
Star and official burbon of the Carolina Panthers celebrate the
spirit of the Carolinas. Panthers had four sacks today and
one of them was by the guy who's going to
open our Panthers' locker room show. Brought to you by
a Southern Star and official burbon of the Carolina Panthers

(16:39):
celebrate the spirit of the Carolinas.

Speaker 6 (16:40):
I just said that twice.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
You did, You did, absolutely and we're gonna go back
to Philadelphia to hear from that.

Speaker 6 (16:47):
Jentleman.

Speaker 9 (16:47):
Guys, thanks for joined by linebacker Josie Jewel following this
again very competitive, great effort by the Panthers and Josie
Jewel ten tackles had a sack and a half in
this one to go tottoe with one of the best
teams on the road in the Philadelphia Eagles. Josie obviously
hurts right now, especially just moments after this game right here.
But as you look big picture, as you said earlier,

(17:08):
zoom out a little bit just where this team has
come over the past four or five weeks. Did you
see the progress? You see the promise that's gonna come,
hopefully sooner than.

Speaker 3 (17:17):
Later with this organization overall. Yeah, for sure.

Speaker 8 (17:19):
You know, we've definitely been having to arrow up the
last four or five weeks, but it's not enough. Still.

Speaker 4 (17:24):
This is a hungry team.

Speaker 3 (17:25):
We want to win.

Speaker 8 (17:26):
It's not about getting in close games, it's about still
winning out. So frustrated, but we can see there's there's
some light for sure, So excited, excited about what we
can do.

Speaker 7 (17:35):
Josie and Nis here, what does it take to kind
of finish those games off?

Speaker 8 (17:41):
To your point, Yeah, it's gonna be consistency and for
the defense, that's where I can speak. It's gonna be
fitting that run correctly and not allowing those big plays.
And I'm a part of that too, and we just
got to be able to take consistent with that and
not try to do too much. And you know, you
get out of one gap, and especially with Saquon back there,
you know he can cost some some having So it's
gonna be that, and it's gonna be doing it for

(18:02):
four quarters and that's something we've been and close to,
but we need to be able to strive to do
at the whole game.

Speaker 10 (18:07):
Hey, Josie Kirk Coleman here, I thought you played a
phenomenal game. Uh, And I know it's not an easy
task going against this offense and trying to tackle that
guy Saque, and then if you don't tackle Saque, then
you Jalen hurts running. But just maybe speaking about the future,
what do you think the message that you're gonna take
into the locker room for these next few weeks knowing
that a unfortunately, you guys have been mathematically eliminated. But

(18:30):
what are you guys gonna do to really keep everyone together?
And how how do you feel as far as moving
together as a team.

Speaker 8 (18:35):
Yeah, I mean this is a great locker room and
coach Sudden when he came in the locker room love
all the players, love the team. And the biggest thing
is gonna be finished strong, and we got to you know,
keep the moment going into next year. It's not a
time to quit. It's not a time to be what
are we gonna do in the off season. It's a
time to keep on going, create that consistency that we
need and again that continuity between players, and we hope,

(18:56):
you know, we have a lot of the same players back,
and you know we're gonna finish the weeks strong and
all season we're gonna try to see what we need
to fix and we're gonna.

Speaker 9 (19:03):
Go from there.

Speaker 6 (19:04):
Josie, great words, Thank you for joining us.

Speaker 4 (19:06):
We appreciate it. How were going. Thanks all right, Josie Jewel.

Speaker 9 (19:08):
There's the Panthers again to fight valiantly but don't get
the win at Philadelphia twenty two to sixteen. The final
score back to Sharlotte.

Speaker 6 (19:16):
We go with Brett Eugene and might come along just fine.
All the injuries they've had.

Speaker 4 (19:19):
Oh well, absolutely, there's no doubt that the defense has
been playing better. But they were going against an offense
really that has one of the number one running back
and to contain them to one hundred and twenty four
yards I believe it was. That's that's a win. Because
that offensive line is so dominant, they're able to push

(19:39):
you around a little bit. And I thought that we
bent a little bit, but we didn't super duper break.
And I understand when you have four sacks and you
come up and you smacking people the way the defense
has been doing it, it it looks really really good
because you're sacking with one of the best quarterbacks in
the league. So yeah, we've gone on to Patow with

(20:01):
some of the best teams and we look good doing it.
We don't look badly, don't we look good doing it?
So I agree with Josie, we're trending up. However, as
a football player, I want more. I want to win well.

Speaker 5 (20:16):
And you win these last three games, and it's a
completely different animal, right, So, I mean, I guess it's
if you're a you a glass half full or a
glass half empty kind of guy, because I would take
the last five games in one possession games. They won
the first two over what we saw earlier in the
year when it was forty seven to ten a loss,
you know, the thirty six to ten loss to Chicago,

(20:38):
and you know, and those those games now or at
least the Chicago game in the first and one is game.
I mean, jeez, you win those two games in the
last three, and you know we're right up there in
first place, you know, And but but the team has
but you have to go through growing pains too. Yeah,
exactly like this team wasn't. They're not playing like now
like that he did before, which is a plus.

Speaker 4 (21:00):
I wanted them to go through these grown paintings last year, right,
you know, that's what you know, you want to see that.
But I'll tell you, yeah, I'll take it because you
see court the quarterback. I think it's a quarterback drivenley
and I think that the quarterback that we've seen in
Bryce Young looks the part right now. He looks.

Speaker 2 (21:17):
I mean to me, we go back to the way
this season started, especially for Bryce Young, and the way
things looked for him. H and hey, I think we
all agree at this table he looked awful at the
end of the year, did well exactly and he I
don't think anybody, nobody and nobody, nobody dispinching him. And

(21:38):
when he came back out and Eugene we talked about
it here at the table.

Speaker 6 (21:41):
They you know, you you watched.

Speaker 2 (21:43):
How different things looked with a veteran quarterback coming out
there and Andy Dalton recognizing NFL defenses immediately be able
to respond to that.

Speaker 6 (21:54):
And when Bryce Young came back.

Speaker 2 (21:57):
Out later in the sea and he was a different guy,
with a different level of confidence. And I think I
think this goes beyond Bryce Young. I think the NFL
has a real problem right now putting these guys out
there immediately. Look at all the young, highly tied quarterbacks

(22:18):
that have been failing in this league, and how many
of them are being stuck out there immediately. I mean,
this is not the way this league used to develop quarterbacks.

Speaker 1 (22:28):
No.

Speaker 4 (22:28):
I said that same You know, I had that same
talk with Jordan Love for the Green Bay Packers. I
was down in Green Bay about maybe three four years ago,
and so he and I were talking and I said, hey,
it is no shame for you to sit behind Aaron Rodgers. Dude,
I said, soak it up. Learn as much as you can.
I said, because when you get in your your ability
is undeniable. You're really good, I said, but you need

(22:49):
to learn how to throw the man open. You need
to learn to anticipate the run, the route, you need
to oh, throw the ball away. You need to do
all those things that he does so well. I said.
And to your point, Brett, is that I think we
throw guys in there too soon because you want to
win right now, you want to see what they do.
But that has never been the case for quarterbacks. Quarterbacks
have already kind of been the understudy, and then they

(23:11):
moved them in and then they become you know, Peyton
Manning had a terrible first season. He was horrible, showed
it down that way. They weren't good.

Speaker 6 (23:20):
It was like, yes, whatever, you know.

Speaker 4 (23:22):
And you know, and I get why you do it
because the fans want to see them. I understand that. However,
I'm with.

Speaker 5 (23:29):
You well, and you know, Eugene called it right around
the time that that discussion started, and then the move
actually happened because you know, the offense didn't change. Andy
Dalton was just making the same plays and showing kind
of showing Bryce the way to your point. Now, it's
also a different coaching staff, so last year it was
a different philosophy, right, Like I don't you know, we

(23:49):
we This would be a good question for Dave Canalis,
but he wouldn't answer it because it's hypothetical. But like,
you know, if he had the job last year, you know,
would would he have sat him or would he have
played him? I mean that's yeah, that's yeah.

Speaker 4 (24:01):
And here it is. What we liked about Andy Dalton
even in the first the first time when he returned
he was when he was quarterbacking, is that you saw
the ball come out quickly and you saw that he
wasn't sitting there overthinking he was the ball. He was
making good quick decisions and they were right decisions, and
he was throwing people open and I said, man, that's
what Bryce needs to do. You got to make a

(24:21):
quick decision and throw people open. Put the ball where
your guy can get it, and that the other guy all.

Speaker 6 (24:28):
Right, still ahead. We'll hear from head coach Dave Canall.

Speaker 2 (24:30):
Let's get the final thoughts of Jim Aniche and Kurt
from Philadelphia. We'll also go through the Scorebard one more
time and go through the status of today's ball game
as well. So stay with us on the Carolina Panthers
Radio Network. Hey, welcome back to the Panthers postgame show
for Cenyboy, Southern Star and official Burbon of the Carolina

(24:52):
Panthers celebrate the spirit of the Carolinas Panthers fall to
the Eagles. But man, it was a tight ball game
out twenty two to sixteen to the final. But the
Panthers defense made it known that they were not gonna
cave early on to either shake On Barkley or Jalen Hurts.
Matter of fact, first time the Eagles had the ball,
Jalen Hurts found out how tough the Fanthers defense is

(25:14):
gonna be.

Speaker 3 (25:20):
Panthers stay and a nickel set.

Speaker 7 (25:22):
Hurts is in the shotgun gain well off his right
him from the forty two yard line, shotgun snap fake
to Gainwell, here's the pressure hurts hit by Jewel and
taken down by Josie Jewell back inside the thirty five
yard line.

Speaker 2 (25:40):
And that helped off the first drive that the Eagles
had in this ball game. Middle of the second quarter,
the Panthers offense really started clicking. It was one of
those drives that we talked about. Seven forty eight on
the clock, fourteen plays, sixty nine yards and it ended
this way.

Speaker 7 (26:00):
Ten previous possessions the last two weeks, three touchdowns. Young
is in the gun, Harvard right hip, shot gun snap,
quick throw near side, Tommy Trimple into the end zone,
front and right corner of the end zone.

Speaker 2 (26:12):
Carolina back on top. The gutsy call pays off. All right,
that was a fourth down play. Yeah, Dave count we're
not we can't call them river, but that's been used, right.

Speaker 5 (26:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (26:23):
We'll have to find out something.

Speaker 2 (26:25):
Yeah, we'll have to find out something goes something something
something like that.

Speaker 6 (26:30):
We'll fight out.

Speaker 2 (26:33):
Panthers had the ball with the two minutes to go
in the first half.

Speaker 6 (26:36):
They had a third and four at their own thirty five.

Speaker 2 (26:39):
You're thinking well, maybe they got a chance to run
out the clock here because the Eagles had the ball
first in the second half. But this was probably the
one big mistake that Bryce Young made all day.

Speaker 7 (26:53):
Three receivers triangle set right, feeling down motions in that set.

Speaker 3 (26:58):
Here's the snap, here's the blitz.

Speaker 7 (27:00):
Hold yo downfield, that's gonna be intercepted, picked off by
the safety Gardner Johnson, and he takes it to the
forty five yard line of Carolina.

Speaker 2 (27:12):
And the Eagles were able to turn that into touchdown
to be a fourteen to ten halftime lead. Now the Eagles,
they get the ball to start the second half, but
Jake Elliott missed a fifty two yard field goal. Panthers
got the ball back another long drive that the Panthers
put on the board seven point fifty three off the clock.
They converted a fourth down and two at the eleven

(27:32):
yard line. Cuba Hubbard appeared to score a touchdown, but
the officials disagreed.

Speaker 6 (27:38):
Yeah, yeah, that was yeah. They reviewed it and still, yeah,
that was bad.

Speaker 2 (27:42):
I still thought he got in, but Tuba Hubbard said,
you know what, you can deny me once, you're not
gonna donie me twice.

Speaker 6 (27:48):
You're not gonna denye me twice. There we go, There
we go.

Speaker 7 (27:53):
Purts out of the gun, Barkley off his right hip
shotgun snap, Hurts looking left, looking center, throw center, cut
of the end, so wide open and caught for a touchdown.
It is Calcaterra, the tight end at Philadelphia takes the
lead with thirteen forty five to go in.

Speaker 2 (28:09):
The fourth Well, that obviously was not Cuba Hubbard. He
got in for one yard out before that to give
the Panthers a sixteen to fourteen lead. That was early
in the fourth quarter. Eagles took a twenty two to
sixteen lead that came after a Jalen Hurt scramble of
thirty five yards that came on a third and eleven
and got him into scoring territory. Those are the final

(28:30):
points of the game. Twenty two to sixteen, the final
score of the ball game. But you know, if Barkley
doesn't get your, Hurts gets you.

Speaker 6 (28:39):
That's said. The Eagles are a team that's playing extremely
well right now.

Speaker 4 (28:42):
And that played that you reference down the field that
Jalen Hurts ran all the way down the field. They
were on a we did like a little twist up
up front and he got pushed out to the side.
That opened up a whole crevice right in the middle
of the field. Because typically we had a little bit
better on laying control that time. That was something that
they the offensive line of the of the Eagles did

(29:03):
well by pushing our guys on a stunt out of
the way past their past their gap and allowed for
that big opening for him to go down the field,
and he took advantage of it.

Speaker 2 (29:12):
I mean, the Eagles are no doubt, they're a very
good football team right now and a game behind Detroit
looking like they could be very well playing for the
NFC championship.

Speaker 4 (29:20):
And that's my point. Okay, when we talk about Kansas
City and we talk about the Eagles, you're talking about
some of the teams that are the elite teams. So
is the Carolina Panthers a bad team when we's going
or did did Kansas City and did the Eagles play poorly?
The answer is no, is that the Carolina Panthers are
playing well. They're playing extremely well, and they're playing up

(29:42):
to a higher level that is matching the energy and
effort we see from the top teams in the league.
So make no mistake about it. This is not an
easy win against the Carolina Panthers.

Speaker 2 (29:52):
We think about the Panthers schedule since the buy a
week and the way it's going to go the rest
of the weird year. Kansas City division leader yep, Tampa
Bay fighting for the division lead today as of today,
the division leader at Philadelphia, Division leaders leader Dallas. Well, Well, yeah,
Arizona fighting for the division leader. No, that's right, and

(30:14):
if they beat Seattle today, they'll probably think they'll be
in the division lead.

Speaker 5 (30:18):
Well, if you picked four teams to be in the
super Bowl, Kansas City in Philadelphia would be two of
those twos.

Speaker 4 (30:23):
Absolutely. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (30:24):
Well, then you go to Tampa Bay and then you
go to Atlanta to finish up the season, and one
of those teams is going to win this division.

Speaker 6 (30:29):
So I mean you're talking.

Speaker 2 (30:31):
About over the last seven games of the season, you're
meeting one, two, three, you know, possibly four division leader. Well,
you're going to be definitely three division leaders, maybe four
division leaders, maybe five division leaders in this last seven
ball games.

Speaker 4 (30:45):
This is what you want if your coach Canal is
being playing your best ball. Oh guest, some really stiff
competence And don't forget you went to Philadelphia to play
that game. If this game is maybe here, do you
get the three point edge to the Carolina Pethers to
maybe win that game? I don't know, but I'm like, wow,
you know what, we're playing well enough to win games,
and so this is no easy win at Oh, this

(31:08):
is a tough team that's coming into his own and
looking very very good.

Speaker 6 (31:12):
And all I know is we don't put Santa Claus
in jail here.

Speaker 5 (31:15):
Oh no, yeah, you know.

Speaker 4 (31:18):
Santa Claus is coming it down.

Speaker 6 (31:20):
Not in Philadelphia. I know that's a jail there.

Speaker 4 (31:23):
Bo Santa Claus at the at the at the at
the one of the Philadelphia seven the Sixers game. Boo
Santa Claus. I know he got booed.

Speaker 6 (31:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (31:34):
I was at a Phillis game one time and they
started the Eagles chance. Wow, in the middle of the summer.
It wasn't even like training camp.

Speaker 4 (31:39):
Oh wow.

Speaker 2 (31:42):
They're tough in Philadelphia, man, they are absolutely all right.
Still ahead, we'll go over the status of today's ball game.
We're heard from Dave Canallis. We'll also have our three
and outsend. Get the final thoughts of the guys up
in Philly. You're listening to Panthers Football presented by Morris Jenkins.

Speaker 1 (31:55):
Back to the Panthers postgame show pre se by Southern Star,
unofficial bourbon of the Carolina Panthers celebrate the spirit of
the Carolinas.

Speaker 4 (32:08):
Now we're doing.

Speaker 2 (32:13):
Welcome Back to the Panthers post game show presented by
Southern Star and official burbon of the Carolina Panthers celebrate
the spirit of the Carolinas. Panthers fallowed the Eagles in
Philadelphia twenty two to sixteen, but we're going to head
back to Philly right now and here from the head
coach Jim.

Speaker 9 (32:28):
A tough one for the Panthers, very competitive one at
Philadelphia twenty two to sixteen, who was joined by the
head coach Dave Canalis and coach in some ways similar
and that a close one that you don't win. Tough environment.
Seems like each week the opponent and the location get
more difficult. But what do you see out of your
guys today in terms of just the way they battled
it almost came away with this one today.

Speaker 11 (32:49):
Just a willingness to fight, you know, team football defense
coming up with a huge stop, you know, to get
us the ball back in ninety seven yards away from
the possibility to win the game and for guys to
just continue to battle all the way through the whole time,
you know, and see the fight, to see Bryce extending plays,
the guys working for him in the in the in

(33:10):
the back half of it, the offensive line, you know,
just having the toughness to just continue to fight against
a really good rush group.

Speaker 3 (33:17):
You know.

Speaker 11 (33:17):
And so it's just I love this team. I love
the fight in this whole group. But again, it comes
down to some some the small margins of error, you know,
and we give them a turnover that they turn into
a touchdown early, you know, a miskick, some drops, some
things that we certainly can control. And that's been the
focus for our team.

Speaker 7 (33:36):
Dave Venichio, you know, talking to the players the last
few weeks after the Kansas City game, it felt, hey,
progress made getting close and then two more first place teams,
there is a sense and I think it's a good
thing that this team has certainly improved and progress is made.
And now do you sense that getting close is no
longer good enough for the locker room?

Speaker 11 (33:57):
It hasn't been, you know, it's it's been the same
message whole time, a niche It's about controlling what we control,
making the plays that come to us. You know, it's
it's a hard enough league as it is, and so
when we have success or we're on the verge of
success in plays, whether it's making a tackle, whether it's
making the catch, you know, making the kicks, the block,
whatever those things are, it's like, the consistency of the

(34:18):
execution has to be the standard. And that's the thing
that we keep chasing is when you play good teams,
it's gonna come down to a play here and a
play there. And that's the type of ball that we need.

Speaker 4 (34:29):
To get to.

Speaker 7 (34:29):
And Dave, I know it's a round number, but it
means a lot to running backs. What does it mean
for Cuba Hubbard to get to a thousand yards rushing?

Speaker 11 (34:37):
I was not aware that to you just brought it up.
It's a tribute to his hard work. He would be
the first one to tell you. It starts with the
offensive line and a group that's committed to blocking and
being nasty upfront to give him those holes. And so
you know, it's it's an encouraging thing, but you know,
at the same time, it's like it's it's the whole
group and it's all of us having to come up
with the win.

Speaker 10 (34:57):
You know, Hey Dave Kirk Coleman here, I first want
to say incredible, incredible game plan. I had some ideas
watching the film, and you guys absolutely executed some things flawlessly.
I mean a fourteen play sixty nine yard touchdown and
then a twelve play fifty eight yard touchdown. But I
do want to ask about two plays. One was right

(35:17):
before the half of third and four on your own
thirty five where Bryce ended up throwing that interception. Was
that the first reader or was that just something what
he was trying to get to? And then the second
part to that question was on this very last drive
when we it was third and four on the Eagles
thirty two yard line, it was a deep pass down
to Xavier. Were those two design was at his primary

(35:38):
reader or was that something that he just saw and
wanted to try to make a big play.

Speaker 11 (35:41):
Yeah, those are just advantageous looks that you know, He's
been coached and he studied and he saw opportunities there.
The one on theland just got away from overthrew it,
but he had a one on one op there. And
then you know the one two Xavier was you know,
exactly the right look, exactly the right check. The whole
thing was right, and so it just came down to execution.

Speaker 4 (36:00):
He coach.

Speaker 9 (36:00):
Last thing I'll let you go is just moments after
the game, but just for the fans listening. Any initial
indication on some of the injuries today with Joff and Brooks.

Speaker 3 (36:09):
Raheem black shirt and then later j C.

Speaker 7 (36:11):
Horn.

Speaker 11 (36:12):
Yeah, Brooks, we're gonna have to gather more information. You know,
it's it's it's in the same knee, so that certainly does,
you know, cost some concern for us, but we'll get
more information on that. Raheem had had chest pain, so
we got him to the hospital. He's heading back right now.
He'll be coming home with us and we'll get more
information on that. And then JC had a groin that
we're gonna have to look at to see, you know,

(36:33):
the severity of it, and he wasn't able to get
back out there, So something that we definitely have to
look at too going into the next week.

Speaker 9 (36:38):
Great, thanks for sharing that, Thank you, coach, Thank you
all right, Coach Dave Canalis. There Eagles twenty two, Panthers sixteen.
Back to Charlotte now's we signed it to Brett, Eugene
and Mike.

Speaker 6 (36:47):
All Right, thoughts on what Dave had to say.

Speaker 5 (36:49):
Mike, Well, actually the last is the first. I mean,
I think we could knock out the Adrium Health injury.
Wo Yeah, absolutely the hospital was not reported on it.
I don't think that they put that on.

Speaker 4 (37:02):
And he said he's coming home with us, coming home
with the.

Speaker 5 (37:04):
Team, so fortunately hopefully he's okay. Uh And then of
course Jonathan Brooks same, need you know that. You know,
you know, we're not doctors, we don't have medical reports,
we're not gona speculate, but uh, man, you hate to
see it being on the same knee. And then uh,
you know, a groin injury for j C. Horn, he's
like this. I mean, he's been healthy pretty much most
of the year. Yeah, hopefully it's nothing too major.

Speaker 4 (37:24):
But yeah, grown energy could be anywhere from three to
four weeks, so, I mean it could be nagging.

Speaker 2 (37:29):
And the injury report brought to you by a trim health.
You deserve to live your best life. At Atrium Health
is here to help on that. Yeah, But he talked
about you know, Bryce looking Yeah, it says he's going
through the progression.

Speaker 4 (37:43):
Yeah, and say, and Kirk Coleman asked him a really
good question about wondering, was that's design plays down the
field to leget that the long pass even though he
ended up dropping that rock, And he said, no, that's
something that Bryce saw as he's extended in the play
and he's been working on.

Speaker 5 (38:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (38:01):
I mean, you don't let that fall from you. He's
been working on extending the play and looking downfield, keeping
his eyes downfield while he's running to see what opportunities
availed himself. That is what you see from people like
Russell Wilson, people like John Elway. You see a lot
of that, like eyes down the field from the running
quarterback Lamar Jackson and keeping eyes on the field as

(38:23):
they're running.

Speaker 5 (38:23):
And that's dralong the scoting report because they already said, hey,
if this is what you see, think about this exactly.

Speaker 4 (38:29):
And so hey he mentioned drops. I think that the
receiving corps and I'll say all of them so and
I'll point people out. You got to help Bryce out
because he's doing what he needs to do to put
that ball in the where you can go, you can
go catch it.

Speaker 2 (38:44):
Well, speaking of Bryce Young, he is our hardest Working
Player of the Game presented by sun Belt Rentals, the
official rental equipment partner of the Carolina Panthers.

Speaker 6 (38:53):
Here's one of his highlights today.

Speaker 7 (38:58):
Ted previous possession was the last two weeks three touchdowns,
youngest in the gun Harvard right hip shot gun snapped
quick throw dear side Tommy Trimple into the end zone
front right corner of the end zone, Carolina back on top.

Speaker 3 (39:13):
The gutsy call pays off. Gene.

Speaker 4 (39:16):
You know, Bru, I feel like even at the last drap,
I have a chance to win. With Bryce. It felt
like as he's going down to feel like you no, Alabama, Uh,
they about to go ahead and score. I'm looking for
the field go oh we need six points. Oh, we
need to tie it up. I felt like we had
a chance that I couldn't say that last year, and
I couldn't say that in the early in the season.
I could say that at this time, like, I feel

(39:36):
that we have a good chance to win. And Bryce
has the ball in his hand on the last on
the last possession.

Speaker 5 (39:41):
And that's you know, when you hear the terms like
trusting the process, I mean, that's one of those things
where you know earlier in the year, we couldn't say that,
And now it's a situation where, you know what, going
down the field with two minutes, you know, even though
the didn't have any timeouts, he still thought it was possible.
It was definitely possible that they can throw a touchdown
to win the.

Speaker 2 (39:58):
Game, especially after they got out of that three yard
line hole. Yeah, once he got out of the hole,
it was like, Okay, anything's possible at this point.

Speaker 5 (40:06):
So yeah, Well, the one thing we have now is hope,
which was lacking a little bit earlier in the year
and certainly last.

Speaker 4 (40:11):
And that fourth downplayed the theling catch the Delan down
on that several route. I don't know, I'm a big
fan of the dealing can catch the rock man. He's
number one.

Speaker 5 (40:19):
Kind have been the hardest working player. I mean, there
were like six guys that could have got it today.

Speaker 2 (40:22):
Cube getting over a thousand yards for that absolutely all right,
we'll talk about stats when we come back to the
Carolina Panthers Radio network. This is the Panthers' post game
show presented by Southern Star, an official bourbon of the
Carolina Panthers. Celebrate the spirit of the Carolinas. While with

(40:43):
the Gene Robinson, Brown, Mike Pachico, Brett macmillan.

Speaker 6 (40:45):
Glad to have you with us.

Speaker 2 (40:46):
Panthers fall to three and nine, falling to the Eagles
twenty two sixteen. Eagles now eleven and two on the season.
Let's go through some of the stats of today's ballgame.
Bryce Young was nineteen of thirty four and ninety one yards.
He had a touchdown, he had an interception. Also today,
Chuba Hubbard had twenty six carries for ninety two yards.

(41:09):
That puts him over one thousand yards on the season,
first time in his career he's accomplished that. Bryce Young
had twenty nine yards rushing and Brooks had one carry
for minus three yards before going out with that knee injury.
And as you heard Dave Canalis say, we'll have to
wait and see what the story is on that. Adam
thielin nine catches for one hundred and two yards on

(41:32):
the day. Also, Xavier Lagette had two catches for thirty
nine yards. He was targeted eight times, and we understand
he was targeted. He was credited with five drops. So
that's something he's going to need to be working on,
especially the rest of this season and throughout the offseason, right, I.

Speaker 5 (41:49):
Think a couple of those were hits too, So working
not only working on catching the ball, but catching through contact.

Speaker 2 (41:56):
Yeah, Moore had two catches for twenty five yards, Hubbard
had four for fifteen. Tompkins had one catch for seven yards,
and Tommy Trumple had won for three yards.

Speaker 6 (42:08):
And that was a touchdown.

Speaker 4 (42:09):
That was that touchdout.

Speaker 2 (42:10):
So in the sack department, Josie Jewel had a sack
and a half, Trevin William Wallace had a half a sack,
dj Wanham had a half a sack, and A'shawn Robinson
had a sack of a hack, sack and a half.

Speaker 6 (42:22):
Real quickly for the Eagles.

Speaker 2 (42:24):
Jalen Hurts fourteen to twenty one, one hundred and eight yards,
two touchdowns. He also rushed for fifty nine yards, and
Saquon Barkley had one hundred and twenty four yards rushing.
Today became the Eagles all time single season rushing it leader.

Speaker 4 (42:40):
Sandy McCoy had it before, Yep, he did.

Speaker 6 (42:42):
Indeed, All right, Mike, what else you got?

Speaker 5 (42:43):
Well, don't you think the Giants gott be feeling pretty
bad about that? They couldn't? Well, I tell you again,
So We talked about this at the time. I mean,
that's the difference of being on a good team versus
a not good team. Right, you put a good running
back on, how do you let that guy go?

Speaker 4 (42:54):
Though? Well?

Speaker 5 (42:55):
I know anyway, let's talk what let's huck what the
team stats here, And as even as the game seemed,
the team overall stats kind of indicate that first downs
Panthers twenty Eagles eighteen. Third down that's the number the
Eugene you really like to focus on, Panthers were seven
of sixteen forty three point eight percent, seven of twelve

(43:16):
fifty eight percent.

Speaker 4 (43:17):
Yeah, I saw that.

Speaker 5 (43:18):
Yeah, so very very close, right, and you get a
couple more who knows. Fourth down Panthers went for it
five times. They made three conversions, so sixty percent there.
They had three hundred and two total yards to two
hundred and ninety two, one hundred eighty four yards passing
to eighty three. And then the big one that we
talked about at the top of the broadcast, time of possession.
And this is why the Panthers were in this game,

(43:40):
uh and had a chance to win late, was they
had seven minutes more of possession. Yeah, and that was
and that was the game plan, and that was a
game plan.

Speaker 4 (43:49):
Me and a Niche were talking about that the beginning
of the week, talking about, hey, how do you beat Philadelphia? Well,
you got to control the clock, and you got to
be on the field more than they on the field.
You can't let that offense on the field and control
the clock. If they win a time of position, they
easily win the game. And we were able to do that.
Hass off the coach Canalis is a huge win. And then,
like I said before, towards the end of the game,

(44:12):
you feel as if we had a chance to win
the game with Bryce. It wasn't like, oh no, okay,
it was hopeful. And like I said, we couldn't say
that before. And can I just talk about Tommy Triumple's
test s oun Sure it's only a three yard test out,
but the way the coach Canalis set that little pick
rode up that he is a pick play where he

(44:35):
comes free and open and he shortened his route because
the defensive back is about five yards off of him.
Are like, that's brilliant. That is some really good smart football.
And so coach Canalas, hats off to you.

Speaker 6 (44:48):
All right, when we come back.

Speaker 2 (44:49):
We will hear from the guys in Philadelphia get their
final thoughts. But first we're going to pause ten seconds
for station identification on the Carolina Panthers a radio network.

Speaker 1 (44:58):
Back to Breadman with more of the Panthers postgame show
preseem a by Southern Star un official bourbon of the
Carolina Panthers celebrate the spirit of the Carolinas.

Speaker 2 (45:13):
Panthers falling another nail bider twenty two to sixteen the Eagles.
We're gonna head back to Philadelphia and get the final
thoughts of Jim Nish and Curtin Man.

Speaker 9 (45:21):
Another one that was close down to the wire, could
have should have been, and against a tough opponent on
the road, Panthers nearly pull off the upset. I think
a niche said at one point have been the biggest
upset in the league this year. I don't think there's
any question it would have been. But Philadelphia wins twenty
two to sixteen. Bryce Young. The numbers don't do justice
to it. One hundred ninety one yards a touchdown. An
interception could have led a ninety eight yard touchdown drive.

(45:43):
Xavier Laguette had a chance, couldn't secure a catch, though
that would have given the Panthers the lead in the
final minute, and Philadelphia closed it out. You lose two
of your running backs, Jonvin Brooks and Raheem blackshear Chuba
Hubbard has to carry the ball twenty six times ninety
two yards, got a touchdown, gave the Panthers a third
quarter lead, and the Panthers yardage wise outgained Philadelphia three
h two to two ninety two. Sakwon Barkley got on

(46:04):
his one hundred and twenty four yards, but just oneh
eight passing for Jalen Hurts. He did have two touchdown
passes in the game, So great effort. Nobody wants again
to talk about close but no win, a niche but
I'll tell you what, that was a heck of a
try there, and if the Panthers had just come up
with a play or two, we could be talking about
maybe one of the big stories in the entire NFL
this year.

Speaker 3 (46:24):
We're leading Sports Center tonight.

Speaker 7 (46:25):
Yeah, it's that big of a story with the college
football playoff and all Philly had come into this game
winners of eight straight, hottest team in the NFL at home,
got the rock as Philly crowd, you alluded to this
on our Panther Talk show this past Monday. Jim, the
good thing about all of this is when you start

(46:47):
to have that frustration for just getting close, that tells
you you're now starting to add expectations to the cake batter.
And three weeks in a row, we've kind of been
through this. Against Kansas City, you walked away, they lose
the game. You go toe to toe with the two
time defending Super Bowl champions, and let's be honest, that

(47:09):
felt like a win. Didn't feel like a win last week,
even though Philly was the heavy favorite. Today didn't feel
like getting close meant as much as it did today
as it did a couple of weeks ago. Getting close
now seems like empty calories, which is a good thing.
But they do have to figure out a way to

(47:29):
make those plays in the margin. They're gonna stack another
draft class, They're going to stack another free agent class
in the offseason.

Speaker 3 (47:36):
We know that.

Speaker 7 (47:37):
I think there's a lot of faith in Dan Morgan
to get things right, and that faith is justified based
on what he did this past offseason. So there's going
to be moves that are going to be made to
improve this roster.

Speaker 3 (47:50):
But in the here and now.

Speaker 7 (47:52):
There's not a ton of margin for error, which makes
what Caroline is doing more impressive staying with these teams
that are Super Bowl contenders. But yeah, it is hard.
It is frustrating to sit here and say should have,
would have, could have. This was a game curt where
if the Panthers don't turn it over before halftime, that's
seven points off the board for Philly. If they can

(48:13):
hold down to the ball on that last drive, that
might be the ballgame.

Speaker 10 (48:16):
Yeah, there's so many things that I can look at
and just say we we executed at such a high efficiency.
I talked about playing with the sense of urgency. I
thought the coaching staff had a great game plan. They
made the right calls, and even in the tough situations
of do we go for it on fourth down?

Speaker 6 (48:33):
Do we kick the field goal?

Speaker 10 (48:35):
They made the right calls and then the team executed
that they followed through with that.

Speaker 3 (48:39):
I thought.

Speaker 10 (48:40):
This Philadelphia offense is so it's very complicated to stop.
It's challenging to put stress literally on every single position.
And when you talk about stopping the run, I mean,
I know they rush for over two hundred yards two
hundred and eleven to be exact, but it didn't feel
like that. I mean, there were times where there were
some gashes, but this defense enough to win this ball game.

(49:02):
And then you know, between Bryce and Cuba and Adam Thielen,
now that he's back and healthy, these guys are making
so many plays. I need the other guys now to
help their quarterback out, help this team out. And I
don't want to again. I'm not gonna hold on to
the things that we didn't do well, because those guys
are gonna learn from that. The things that I learned

(49:23):
the most were the ones that I did not get
are did not execute well. But here's the thing. This
team is looking on the up and up. I'm excited
about what Bryce is doing. He's playing well and he
showed no matter what, no matter the circumstance and critical situations,
he can get this team down the field and make
big plays.

Speaker 3 (49:37):
All Right, Kurt got these great words.

Speaker 9 (49:39):
We'll send it back to Charlotte now with Brett, Eugene
and Mike.

Speaker 2 (49:41):
All Right, thanks a lot, Jim appreciate it. We'll take
one more driver around the league, brought to you by
your hot the dealers of the Carolinas.

Speaker 6 (49:47):
Mike, what the game. What a leagu games look like?

Speaker 5 (49:49):
All right, well they're looking pretty tight actually, Josh Allen
with a touchdown run for the Buffalo Bills. They're now
down seventeen to seven after a long twenty two yard
block to punt. So the Chargers leading by ten about
twelve twenty nine to go in the second quarter. The
rams I said, rams, I'm sorry, yeah, good call. I
was looking the Chargers later on San Francisco, by the way,

(50:12):
fourteen to nothing over the Bears.

Speaker 9 (50:14):
So no.

Speaker 5 (50:15):
Christian McCaffrey apparently no problem for rock Perty. He's eight
of nine hundred and fifty two yards with a touchdown
and no interceptions because he's well, he's pretty pretty, look
pretty again. Gino Smith ten of twelve hundred yards one
hundred and one yards passing with a touchdown as the
Seahawks leading right now seventeen to ten over the Arizona Cardinals,

(50:36):
and Carlo Murray has already thrown two interceptions.

Speaker 4 (50:39):
Oh wow, watch out now.

Speaker 5 (50:41):
And two picks in that game. Then, of course, the
two games from earlier, they went final, Miami winning thirty
two to twenty six over the Jets to a tongue
Vailoa had a ten yard touchdown passed to John new
Smith essentially for the winner and Graham Gano and we
kind of watched this live missed a thirty five yeard
Figgle was actually blocked.

Speaker 4 (50:59):
Was blocked and the Giants lou it should have been
called to that place should have been called because.

Speaker 5 (51:04):
The lineman jumped over the center looked like another player.

Speaker 4 (51:07):
On the why I jumped over.

Speaker 5 (51:10):
Because we're watching at the time. Brian Table looked like
he was kind of apoplectic that there wasn't exactly a
penalty on that. So there you have the late handa scoreboard.

Speaker 6 (51:20):
That's what happened to your bad football team. Yeah, we've
learned that over the years.

Speaker 4 (51:25):
Yes we did, Yes we have.

Speaker 2 (51:27):
All right, we'll we come back. It'll be time for
our three and out. You're listening to Panthers Football presentive
by Morris Jenkins.

Speaker 1 (51:32):
The Panthers postgame show continues. Please see him a by
Southern Star unofficial bourbon of the Carolina Panthers celebrate the
spirit of the Carolinas.

Speaker 6 (51:45):
Hey, we'll welcome back. Wrap it up.

Speaker 2 (51:47):
The Panthers twenty two to sixteen loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
By the way, it was announced earlier this afternoon at
the Duke Mayo Bowl here at Bank of America Stadium
on January the third kickoff at seven thirty.

Speaker 6 (52:00):
Is going to be Virginia Tech and Minnesota.

Speaker 5 (52:03):
Okay, you're gonna bring a lot of keys for enter
the Sandman.

Speaker 2 (52:06):
They don't need keys, fitter, sam Man. Just to make
sure you're make sure your calves are stretched out. Indeed,
make sure those calves are stretched out. So yeah, and uh,
that would be a pretty good bitch at I expect
that would be a lot of hockey fans. It's not
too far from Blacksburg, so yep. That game will be
on January.

Speaker 6 (52:26):
Third this year.

Speaker 5 (52:26):
That should be a home game, don't you think it
should be?

Speaker 9 (52:29):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (52:29):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (52:30):
Well, there are a lot of direct flights from Minneapolis.

Speaker 2 (52:32):
Well, they might want to get out of the cold. Absolutely.
All right, let's go over with three and outs and
Mike put Chica. Whant't you to kick us off?

Speaker 5 (52:38):
All right? I think holding onto the football is uh
is my number one key. You know, in big situations,
you got to make big plays. Your star players have
to make big plays in big situations. And and and
I think that's one for me congratulations to Chuba hubbad
are a thousand yards that that's you know, pretty sick
the first time in his career. And I think just
from the defensive standpoint as well as I think the

(52:59):
defense did play in games like this, you gotta force
turnovers and so that's moving forward and I know that's
what they're trying to do so but I would have
liked to have seen that in this game as well.

Speaker 4 (53:09):
You know my three and outs I'm going with the defense. Defense,
you have to improve on the third down percentage, gotta
get off the field, and to your point, you can
need turnovers to go along with those sacks. It makes
a difference. Offensively, I think we were doing a great
job quarterback movement in the pocket, throwing the ball extremely well.

(53:30):
One thing I'm gonna echo what Coleman was intimating about
the other guy stepping up to ketch the rock. Bryce
is putting that ball where you can go ahead kneat.
You gotta go ahead and eat, and it's so important.
It is so important, and that goes to what coach
has been talking about finished finish. You gotta go ahead

(53:52):
and focus and finish. And so I think we're on
the road to doing that, but I want to see
a little bit more with the receivers.

Speaker 2 (53:59):
My start off with, I'd like the way this team
is staying competitive at the end of the season. It
would be easy for these guys, you know, with a
three to ten record, to pack it in and say, yeah,
you know, let's just play out the string and get
out of here. But Dave Canalis has done a nice
job keeping this locker room engaged. Look at the last
five weeks, the way this team has played against a
very difficult competition as we as we cited earlier. You know,

(54:21):
you got Dallas coming in that always gets a lot
of attention, you got Arizona coming in. They're a team
playing for a division championship, and then either Tampa or
Atlanta or both played last ye which is they're going
to be playing for a division championship. And to keep
this team engaged and playing hard, I think that's pretty impressive.
I think the Russian defense has to continue to improve.
They had a decent day to day, but they're still

(54:43):
letting the opponents get those big chunk plays, especially scrambling quarterbacks.
You know, Murray's going to be really the one scrambling
quarterback They go to see the rest of the season.
But they've still got to improve in that department. And
Hurts really hurt him today with that one p thirty
yards thirty five yards scramble. And I think it's interesting
because the expectations of this team are now changing, not

(55:06):
necessarily in the locker room, because players always play to win.
They don't they're not thinking about a draft pick improvement
by losing games. They're always thinking about winning. But the
expectations outside of the locker room are beginning to change
because they've been competitive. As we talked about earlier. Fans
are happy with keeping Kansas City close and playing close

(55:26):
today against Philadelphia. But when a team like Dallas comes
in next week, a team that has not been very
good this year, we're gonna expect more than a close.

Speaker 6 (55:34):
Ball game exactly. They're gonna they're gonna want to see
a win.

Speaker 2 (55:37):
Well, speaking of Dallas, they are coming in next Saturday
Sunday here at Bank of America Stadium. That will be
at one o'clock game ten am. Here are the Fox
Cat Daddy kickoff at noon kickoff just after one o'clock,
and then we'll be back for the Panther postgame show
just after four o'clock. Once again the final. Today Philadelphia
wins it over the Panther's twenty two sixteen.
