Speaker 1 (00:03):
Now to Jim Zoki with the Panthers postgame show preseming
by Southern Star un official bourbon of the Carolina Panthers
celebrate the spirit of the Carolinas.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Well, what a way to welcome the new year and
to finish out the old season. Panthers in overtime stunned
the Atlanta Falcons forty four to thirty eight. As the
Panthers finished on a high note, winning the last game,
winning two of their last three, finishing five to twelve.
Atlanta had found out, probably during the course of the
last moments of regulation early parts of overtime, they were
(00:39):
not going to win the NFC South because Tampa Bay
was finishing their win over at New Orleans, which was
a fight for them to get that one today. So
Atlanta double out of the playoffs. They didn't win and
Tampa Bay did win today. But more importantly, though, Eugene
and Mike, the Panthers getting this victory and talk about
what that means as far as just that high and
that momentum, and we'd seen this kind of a cent
(01:01):
heading in towards this game today. But to finish the
way they did today, I would think would be something
to build off for next year.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
It was collaborative too, because you can tell that when
we scored the testdowns, Santa scores the testdown, the entire
offense went in to celebrate with the with the fans
and the sideline the next same thing, and so you
can tell the excitement because this is when meant it
really meant something. Don't forget it meant something for the
Falcons too. The Falcons had to win that game. They
(01:29):
had to win that game, and we went in and
put up forty four points. And let me just say this,
Bryce Young, My goodness, the way Bryce played today throwing
the rock and then just the just his wherewithal of
improvisation and and scoring two testowns where like nothing's gonna happen,
he makes something happen. That's the Bryce that we were
(01:51):
expecting to see and he delivered today, absolutely delivered.
Speaker 4 (01:55):
Yeah, five touchdowns if you include you know, two rushing,
three passing, throwing dimes. And it's amazing. You know how
much we talked about this throughout the year. But the
difference and confidence and team confidence and individual confidence I
think are both things that are a lot better. I mean,
you look at the last nine games, Panthers are four
and five. There were one and seven start the year.
(02:16):
You know, I think, you know, we've seen a lot
of good things from the head coach. The offensive line
has been good, quarterback play has been better. You know
that we've seen the defensive line I think at times
has shown some things. So I mean, these are all
building blocks you can take in the next year.
Speaker 5 (02:29):
It feels good.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
I mean it's a really feel good moment for the
for the team, for the coaching staff, and to move
forward going into the next season. You said, yeah, we
can build upon this because don't forget there were some
games in the season that Tampa Bay, that Kansas City game,
there were some games that you said, hold up, the
Carolina Panthers actually should have maybe won this game. And
(02:50):
so this five win we look at it could have
easily been more wins. So when you look at it
in totality, man, this is a way to end the season,
down in it and putting some work in.
Speaker 5 (03:01):
Oh.
Speaker 4 (03:01):
Remember, and there's phases, right, I mean there's there's lose, big, lose, close,
win close, win big, and you know earlier, you know,
coming off some big losses, but now you win a
close game. So it's you know again, I think what
the last eight weeks, I think nine weeks have showed
this is we got a little bit of hope now,
whereas last year we didn't have this going into the
offseason necessarily.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
And and here does Bryce being the guy because now
I think he s firmly interests himself as I'm the
guy to quarterback this team.
Speaker 5 (03:30):
That's what I think he made a statement today.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
And who would have thought last year we'd be winning
with offense because you think, I know, this win was
thirty six points Tampa Bay forty four today because they're
overcoming which is I think obviously largely personnel attrition, giving
up again over two hundred yards rushing today. Be John
Robinson at one hundred and seventy said two twenty seven.
But these are things you can't fix in season when
you don't have personnel. That will be addressed in the
(03:52):
off season. But you needed the offense to step up
and keep scoring and keep scoring all four quarters, and
they did. I mean last year forty four points. That
was like at the scoring last year.
Speaker 4 (04:02):
Well seriously, and how about Jalen Coker, I mean he
throw us for a touchdown on a on a trick play.
He had seven catches for sixty two yards and some
tough catches. I mean Bryce was throwing into some really
tight windows and the receivers, you know, Miles Sanders, this
might have been one of his best games, if not
the best game he's had as a Carolina Panthers. I
mean a lot of guys showed up today, and I thought.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
The fact that Bryce targeted so many different people. I mean,
we saw a number of touches, whether we're talking about Laguet,
whether we're talking about Feeling, we're talking about more Coker,
we saw different touches, and it's because the quarterback had
his eyes on the field. The ball came out very,
very quickly. And this was a really good team win.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
I thought.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
Defensively, now, if I'm being honest, it was too poorous.
Speaker 5 (04:42):
It was that bin but don't break.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
But that's what you're looking for your office to do
is help the defense by scoring a lot of points,
and we were able to do that.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
All right, So a good way to finish the season,
good way to start our post game show. We got
a lot coming up. We'll catch up to date on
the scoreboard. We'll hear from the guys in the booth
and Coach Dave Canalis and some of the players in
Atlanta following this win and a whole lot more listening
back to some of the highlights here on the Panthers
Post Game Show presented by Southern Star Official Bourbon of
the Carolina Panthers. Celebrate the spirit of the Carolina Panthers,
(05:11):
and so it is the Panthers winning forty four to
thirty eight over the Atlanta Falcons. You're listening on the
Carolina Panthers Radio Network.
Speaker 4 (05:23):
Back on the Southern Star Bourbon postgame Show. Jim Zok,
Eugene Robinson, I am Mike Pachico. Time now for the
post game scoreboard, brought you by the North Carolina Education
Lottery and Digital Instance. It's a whole new way to
win mobile games and loads of real cash prizes registered
to win Digital Instance today. Quote a lot of action
of course going on today in the NFL. Let's start
(05:44):
with the games underway right now. In a couple of
games with meeting Denver, a win and they're in They
lead Kansas City right now seven to nothing. Miami needs
to win and a Denver loss there at the New
York Jets and the Metal ends. They have a field
goal lead over the Jets with about nine three to go,
so early first quarter in that game. San Francisco three
nothing over Arizona. All these scores in the first quarter.
(06:07):
Seattle and La right now that the score. The La
Rams scoreless with about eight forty three to go in
that game, and then the Chargers in Las Vegas also
just underway and no score in that one. Earlier today,
Washington beating Dallas twenty three to nineteen. Marcus Mariota coming
(06:28):
in for Jayden Daniels in that game, so he threw
for one hundred and sixty one yards two touchdowns, also
had a rushing touchdown in that game. Chicago with a
win on the road they did at Green Bay twenty
four to twenty two. Jordan Love left that game, he
got hurt. Caleb Williams for the Bears twenty one of
twenty nine, hundred and forty yards touchdown and no interceptions.
(06:52):
Sorry Jim Indianapolis twenty six over Jacksonville twenty three. I
say sorry because Joe Flacco twenty three of forty two
to sixty four touchdown and no one.
Speaker 2 (06:59):
A long time Cleveland Brown, Yeah, a long time.
Speaker 4 (07:02):
Brow everybody in New England, maybe a little bit upset
about the Patriots beating Buffalo twenty three sixty because New
England played themselves out of the night.
Speaker 5 (07:11):
They played the number one spot.
Speaker 4 (07:12):
Huh right, Uh. Drake may played sparingly and that one
only had one attempt. He was zero for one in
that game. Joe Milton finishes the game twenty two of
twenty nine, two hundred and forty one yards and a
touch on Mitchell Trubisky, the quarterback for the Buffalo Bills.
In that one hundred yards passing with a touchdown. Baker
Mayfield leads New Orleans, or leads Tampa Bay over New
(07:34):
Orleans twenty seven to nineteen. So with that win, Tampa
Bay clinches their fourth consecutive NFC self title.
Speaker 5 (07:42):
And that was a close game too, But the way
that was very quick.
Speaker 4 (07:44):
Monitoring that game as well, of course, had implications with
our game. Philadelphia beats the New York Giants twenty to thirteen.
Tanner McKee was a quarterback, of course. Jalen Hurts hurt
not in that game. And then Houston beats Tennessee twenty
three fourteen. The Titans were wearing the old Houston oilers
uniforms in that game today has that kind of throwback theme.
Speaker 6 (08:03):
CJ.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
Shrow just pause. How do we feel about that? Like
you leave the city and you're in Tennessee. It's been
many years, yes, but you wear the Houston Oilers. It's
almost like I'm in Jewish. I'm like, get away. We're
the Texans and you took our team and our logo
and it's gone our logo and our name.
Speaker 4 (08:19):
Yeah, I don't like it.
Speaker 5 (08:21):
It's like the SuperSonics in the in the Okoba thunder right.
Speaker 4 (08:24):
Right, What the kid do it? Because it reverted back here,
but it'd be almost like the Pelicans wearing Hornets uniforms.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
Yeah, get out, get out, get.
Speaker 4 (08:32):
Out, get out of here. Coming up. We just mentioned
the games coming up or going on right now. But
tonight the big game is Minnesota and Detroit. Yeh Field.
This game is talk about having all the marbles. The
winner gets the number one seed and the bye, and
the loser gets fifth place and gets to go on
the road.
Speaker 3 (08:50):
And they get to go on the road, and I
believe they get to go on the road against the
Tampa Buccaneers.
Speaker 4 (08:54):
Right, and that would be a fourteen and three team.
Speaker 5 (08:56):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
It's worked out, okay. In the college football playoffs for
the one two weren't none of the top four advanced exactly.
May maybe advantage to the team that loses to go
on the road and keep playing football. They'll play Tampa Bay.
So the draft order top ten, Tennessee at number one,
Cleveland two. The Giants moved back up to three because
you mentioned New England losing to New England four. And
this is all pending these late games, but this is
(09:18):
as we sit here in this hour. Jacksonville five, Jets six,
Vegas seven, Carolina eighth, New Orleans nine, Chicago ten, So
we're fine, right if we were I think there were
six coming in, six, eight, whatever.
Speaker 5 (09:30):
Yeah, whatever you like in the top ten. I think
that's like okay, And.
Speaker 4 (09:34):
I think it depends on at that point. I think
it depends on who you draft, not necessarily where your draft.
I mean, obviously you want to be the one, two
or three spot, but when you get to like five
on down, if you pick the right guy, I don't
think that.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
And they're not going quarterback anyway, which we know that's
gonna be the first couple of picks will be some
of the quarterbacks coming off the board.
Speaker 4 (09:50):
So yeah, yeah, but usually don't you think of dovetails
after about three or four because then teams start to
have different philosophies.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
And also don't forget when you have the free agent
period too, that's going to be huge anyway before that,
did you draft anyway?
Speaker 5 (10:00):
So that's going to be a big or really big
thing too.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
But I think also if you're thinking of Carolina Panthers,
I think you're going to defensively, you gotta think defensively,
I think as you move forward.
Speaker 4 (10:10):
But I also think too, with the way this team finished,
and I think the way that Dave Canalis has not
only handled himself but handled the team, I think this
this comes back to being, you know, a good place
for free agents to think about.
Speaker 3 (10:22):
Oh, no doubt about, no doubt about that. The way
that we finished off offensively, it says that we can
score points. What it doesn't say is that we've given
up a number of points where games that we should
have won that we we didn't win. I think that
the defense, if we concentrate defensively like we concentrated offensively
last year, we do that.
Speaker 5 (10:42):
I think that you got a team that's maybe eight, nine, ten, ten, wins.
Speaker 4 (10:48):
Dang, look at us watch out, I mean doubled last
year as well.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
Oh yeah, I'm just saying, right, we were talking earlier
two four or eight, who do you appreciate? But now
it's two four, five ten.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
Yeah, I think so, because, uh, when you think of
don't forget Kansas City at his top strength, and we
went down to wire with those guys, I mean Tampa Bay.
And Tampa Bay is a very very good team, no
doubt about that. But we went in overtime, and so
this there were some games. If we're going, dude, we
should have really come away with maybe a couple of
(11:18):
more wins here.
Speaker 5 (11:18):
So we're not that far off.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
Yeah, Arizona was a good win, but we've lost more
than we won up until today exactly. So I don't know.
Did we have four overtime games this year?
Speaker 5 (11:27):
Or I thought it was this podcast matter.
Speaker 2 (11:30):
We had Tampa We had three or four overtimes games
this because we had Arizona was overtime, right, Tampa Bay
was overtime. This was overtime. So that's actually three off
the top of man, I feel like we had one
more war, yeah, or we beat the Giants Giants, Yeah, yeah, yeah,
we beat the Giants Communicant overtime, so we're two and
two in the overtime.
Speaker 3 (11:48):
I'll tell you what if you think, like anybody who's
playing the Carolina Panthers when we were on this stretch,
is you know, we go back eight games and you
think it was an easy win. That you mark the
Carolina Panthers is an easy win. You got another thing coming.
You have been watching what they've been doing, and if
you have been watching, you realize that this is a
very good team, a bonafi team that's missing some pieces.
Speaker 5 (12:10):
If they get a couple of pieces together, you better
watch out right.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
We'll say a time out here. When we come back,
we'll listen back to some of the highlight calls from
this win. Today in overtime, Panthers top the Atlanta Falcons
on the road forty four to thirty eight, and you're
listening to Panthers Football brought to you by Morris Jenkins.
Speaker 1 (12:25):
This he's the postgame show, presently by Southern Star, unofficial
bourbon of the Carolina Panthers. Celebrate the spirit of the Carolinas.
Speaker 7 (12:37):
Soary gifts straight up the.
Speaker 8 (12:38):
Middle, Touchdown, Touchdown.
Speaker 1 (12:41):
Carolina Reaction and analysis to today's game with special guests,
highlights and updates from around the league.
Speaker 7 (12:48):
Complete touchdown right side, next the Cats touchdown.
Speaker 6 (12:52):
Heathers Now, what about it?
Speaker 7 (12:55):
Now?
Speaker 1 (12:55):
What now? To Chinzuki with the Panthers postgame show, exclusively
on the Carolina Panthers Radio.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
Network, telling you last year this was a month of
Sundays and scoring forty four points for the Panthers over
Atlanta forty four thirty eight. We're gonna listen back to
some of the highlights, some of the calls of the game.
We'll pick the ones from late in the game, otherwise
we will be here for a long time with that
many points in the game. But Panthers would jump out
in this game to a three nothing lead. Wait, hand
(13:26):
be John Robinson, where are we in the sing This
thing's out of whack.
Speaker 5 (13:29):
It's out of order.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
Darn it. I'll have to go to my phone. This
thing doesn't show the scoring in order. Hang on, stupid computer.
Jump to the second half. I got my own notes.
I'm going to them in my phone.
Speaker 5 (13:41):
There they are.
Speaker 2 (13:41):
So the Panthers. Bryce Young gets that touchdown run in
the first half makes it ten to three. So Bryce
had two touchdown runs in this game. As Mike mentioned
three touchdown passes, Atlanta would come back and Michael Pennix
Junior with his own touchdown one makes it ten to
ten in the first half. And then that nice touchdown
pass to the running back Miles Sanders at thirty three
yarder gave Carolina beauty seventeen ten lead. I'm not going
(14:04):
to play that here, but that was that was a
heck of a throw and Miles Sanders was wide open
on that.
Speaker 5 (14:07):
I'm just telling you if Bryce was just.
Speaker 3 (14:09):
Spot on throwing the ball, throwing the ball, we always
talk about throwing the man open, and throwing the ball
with a defensive back is not.
Speaker 5 (14:16):
And he was absolutely stellar today.
Speaker 3 (14:19):
Some beautiful passes, some behingdh some throwing in front, and
some really good catches. I could see feeling, I can
see Sanders. There's so many actually cochers towards the end
of the game. I mean, there were so many windows
of opportunity for him to shine, and boy did he shine.
Speaker 4 (14:36):
Well. How many times did he throw the needle too?
Speaker 6 (14:37):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (14:38):
Goodness, Like, I mean, he was throwing guys home. But
it was also I mean, I think of that Coker
catching overtime. Keep coming back to that, but again, it
just goes back to the confidence that he's playing with.
And you know, you know, there's a I think if
somebody esthmenates today, I think would be interesting. But like,
at some point if you feel like you're arrived right,
And I don't know if he's had that sense yet,
(14:59):
but I think if he hasn't, he should have it today.
Speaker 5 (15:01):
And I tell you there's something about being benched.
Speaker 3 (15:03):
I'm just telling you there's something about losing your position
where it makes you concentrate it because that happened to me.
I was benched for Johnny Johnson, UH, one of the
safeties of the for the Seattle Seahawks, and it made
me focus. It made me focus on every little detailed
thing that I was doing and made me just assess, like.
Speaker 5 (15:24):
Am I good?
Speaker 6 (15:25):
Not good?
Speaker 5 (15:26):
Where do I fall in this?
Speaker 3 (15:27):
And if I have another opportunity to get out there,
I'm gonna I'm gonna make sure I can eat. And
from that standpoint, I wonder what I would love to
talk to Bryce and find out what did you go
through when you were sitting there watching When you're watching,
how did you feel, and just be honest, how did
you feel the turmoil side. I know you want to
clap on up, but what do you say to yourself?
(15:48):
I can't wait to get back out there, because that's
exactly what I said. And so seeing Bryce now to
what we saw even last year and beginning of the
season is night and day.
Speaker 2 (15:58):
Oh the same players say it looks like Alabama Bryce.
So Miles Sanders with that touchdown makes it's seventeen to ten.
They come back, it's all second quarter b John Robinson
a touchdown run, seventeen all, and then they take the
lead going into halftime. Right at the end, Drake London
that twenty yard pass from Michael Pennock Junior like going, oh,
here we go twenty four to seventeen as they take
the lead into halftime. But then here's Tommy Tremble. We'll
(16:20):
listen to this one ties the game at twenty four
all in a twelve yard touchdown pass from Bryce Young.
Speaker 7 (16:26):
Now Sanders motion's over to the left, Young under center.
Here's the snap play, fake rolling right, throws back of
the end zone, Tommy Tremble center, cut wide open, touchdown Carolina.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
And then Panthers would build on that lead in the
third quarter. David Moore nine yard touchdown from Bryce Young,
so the Panthers are up thirty one to twenty four,
and again it goes back and forth Atlanta. In the
fourth quarter, Drake London the twenty one yard touchdown grab
from Michael Pennix Junior ties the game at thirty one all.
And then Bryce Young again. This was another touchdown run,
second one of the day. A ten yarder here gives
(17:02):
Carolina the thirty eight to thirty one lead with just
over four minutes to go.
Speaker 7 (17:07):
It's a tight formation, Feeland slot left, Tremble the tight end.
Here's the snap, the fake to Boon. Young backpedals rolling
to his right. He can one fourth, he's got the ten,
he's got the five.
Speaker 8 (17:18):
Bryce into the end zone and Carolina takes the lead.
Count them one, two, three, four, five touchdowns today for
Bryce Young.
Speaker 2 (17:30):
That's a whole hand if you know what five fingers
look like. That and we're thirty eight to thirty one. Unfortunately,
there was more Atlanta Bejon Robinson four yard touchdown run.
We'll talk about him a little bit. Thirty eight all.
With that, he ran for one hundred and seventy eight yards.
We're headed to overtime. And this was the game winner
after a NISA two hand shovel pass by Bryce Young
to Jalen Coker got it down to the one yard line.
(17:52):
Miles Sanders finishes off with the touchdown.
Speaker 7 (17:54):
Here Lung is under center. Here's the snap. Sanders up
the middle, charging through the end zone. Touchdown, Carolina, the
Panthers walking off to end the season.
Speaker 2 (18:12):
What a way to end the season on a walk
off touchdown and they'll walk off win for the Panthers
forty four to thirty eight. Before going to break, Let's
go ahead and pause ten seconds for station identification. As
you're listening all along the Carolina Panthers Radio Network Southern
Starbourbon postgame show, Panthers a winner forty four to thirty
eight over the Atlanta Falcons to close out the season. Well,
(18:34):
more conversation we'll hear from coach Dave Canal. So we'll
hear from Luke and Jake and Anisha in Atlanta. A
lot more coming up next as we continue on the
Carolina Panthers Radio Network. Half the season comes to an
end with a victory in Atlanta overtime, forty four to
thirty eight over the Atlanta Falcons. Win number five on
(18:55):
the season. For Carolina. Bryce Young five one come one
two three for five touchdowns in the game, three passing
to running the ball two hundred and fifty one yards
passing joins the guys in the booth post game.
Speaker 7 (19:07):
We're joined by Panthers quarterback Bryce Young. Bryce and this
year you went through it all this year. How would
you describe the arc of this season for this team?
Speaker 6 (19:19):
Just just growth?
Speaker 9 (19:21):
You know, I think as a team, you know, there
are a lot of ups, a lot of downs, but
the the amount of fight, a lot of amount of growth. Uh,
the resilience that this team has, uh, you know, coming
to the end of it is something that I'm super
super grateful to be a part of.
Speaker 6 (19:36):
You know, We've always fought.
Speaker 9 (19:38):
You know, always always look to take that next step,
and you know, again for this team, that is something
I'm super super proud of.
Speaker 7 (19:44):
You guys had a number of games in this last
seven eight game stretch where you got close. But it
seems over that stretch you learned how to finish.
Speaker 6 (19:54):
What did it take?
Speaker 9 (19:55):
Yeah, you know, I think it just it just took
us coming together and putting together again.
Speaker 6 (19:59):
This is an team new staff.
Speaker 9 (20:01):
You know, we had to learn to you know, how
how to play together, learn how to how to finish,
how to win. We've talked about it, and we were
working on it. I think we were getting closer and closer,
and you know, there's still a ton of work to do,
of course, but just being able to to to play
for each other, trust each other, us learning how to
how to finish as a group, believing in that. Just
being able to see that that growth throughout the season
has been has been awesome.
Speaker 6 (20:21):
Hey, Brice, is Jake question for you? Did you call
the last play of the game.
Speaker 9 (20:28):
We came back and I talked to talk with coach,
and you know, we were you know, after the time out.
We came back and you know, we were both on
the same page of you know, just just wanted to
finish that way, and you were very demonstrative.
Speaker 10 (20:39):
I had you in the binocular and you were directly
in front of us, and I could see exactly you
were pretty confident there was a play you wanted to run.
Speaker 9 (20:46):
Yeah, yeah, and we were when we went back and
talked about it, we were already on the same page,
which was awesome. So especially for us to finish like that,
our on line has has played amazing.
Speaker 6 (20:55):
Uh, you know they they were they were dominant.
Speaker 9 (20:57):
Same with with especially with Miles getting the ball, you know,
all the backs, everyone just finishing that way.
Speaker 6 (21:03):
It was was special.
Speaker 10 (21:04):
I have one more, What did you learn about yourself
as a football player this season?
Speaker 9 (21:09):
You know, I think for me, it was just just
the resilience. You know, I'm a man of faith, and
I'm I'm I'm super grateful for for the grace of
God and being put in a situation I've never been
there before. It really allowed me to to just experience
something new and experience God in a new way. I'm
so so grateful for that, and you know, being able
to learn that resilience, you know, with something that you know,
(21:30):
God doesn't make mistakes. Everything happens for a reason. So
I'm super grateful that I was, uh you know you
know that that that played.
Speaker 2 (21:36):
Off Bryce, congratulations on a on a great game.
Speaker 11 (21:39):
Just kind of talk about how nice it is to
have coach back and the whole offense back and not
have to worry about learning a new system and just
being able to build on what you guys did this year.
Speaker 9 (21:49):
Yeah, No, that that's huge. I'm super excited. Again, you know,
we've we we know we're capable of now. Obviously, the
next step is is putting it together in consistency. You know,
I've see We'll be ironing out details throughout the offseason.
But knowing that we have a place to build from,
you know, we've already built Isoria foundation, and now knowing
(22:10):
we just have to continue to keep going, it's a
much better place to be what you.
Speaker 7 (22:14):
Want, Bryce, Before we let you go. The touchdown to
Tommy Tremble, you turn around your signal touchdown before he
even caught it.
Speaker 5 (22:24):
Walk me through that.
Speaker 9 (22:25):
Yeah, you know, I saw Tommy was open, and I
know Tommy's gonna catch the ball. So it was just
confidence in Tommy to make the catch. And you know, great,
great play design.
Speaker 5 (22:34):
Bryce.
Speaker 7 (22:35):
It's been so much fun watching your story unfold and
what you did over the second half of the season.
Looking forward to seeing what's ahead next year. Thanks Bryce,
thank you, I appreciate you guys.
Speaker 2 (22:46):
All right, So Bryce Young again, the numbers in the
game for him, two undred fifty one yards passing, five
total touchdowns, three passing to rushing touchdowns ago with twenty
four yards on the ground, and you mentioned Miles Sanders.
You know, Miles Sanders had the touch down reception. At
the game winning touchdown. He carried the ball seventeen times
for sixty six yards. He's under contract for two more years.
(23:06):
We talk about all right, you got Chuba Hobbard, but
you no longer have Jonathan Brooks with the the ACL
injury again this year. I mean, Sanders chose and they
showed a guy that could stick around and not just
be someone who's got a contract here, but be a
contributor in this offense.
Speaker 5 (23:20):
Yes he does.
Speaker 3 (23:20):
And also I think you add black Share to that
same list too. He's another guy that can go ahead
and run and get you some of that those jars.
Because the offensive line does an incredible job of blocking.
I think that that one of the better run blocking teams.
They do a really consistent job. I guess even eight
man front too. So it's been some really good, some
(23:41):
really good blocking. And that's why I think our running
backs have really excelled because of the offensive line, no
doubt about that. The upgraded officive line has been tremendous.
Speaker 4 (23:50):
Yeah, that's been huge, and I think, you know, just
to look we may look more forward ahead later, but
I mean I think it tells you you show up
a little bit on defense and that this this, I mean,
something to work with here, and I think that's, you know,
the hope that that moves forward. Here is what's to me,
what's exciting. And just the exuberance that Bryce had because
you know, I mean, he probably wasn't too exuberant when
(24:10):
he got benched, right, but but he but he learned
from that and he took that opportunity and he took
the bull by the horns, so to speak, and he's
you know, he's fashioned himself into an NFL.
Speaker 2 (24:19):
Corps And I think this should be a lesson for
teams that are now going in to draft to draft
their quarterback. Not everything is instant off. If you're going
to invest in a quarterback, invest some time in that quarterback.
And I'm not true saying this because this regime is
gone that brought him in as far as the coach
in the front office and all that stuff. But you know,
they threw everything on his plate at once, and it
(24:41):
was too much. And honestly, he shouldn't have been opening
last season. It should have been Andy Dalton last year
starting the season and then bring Bryce in instead of
this whole rush. You know, whatever, the combination of minds.
Speaker 6 (24:51):
To have that done. It did.
Speaker 2 (24:52):
It did a disservice to Bryce's development.
Speaker 3 (24:54):
Don't forget Peyton Manning was not Peyton Manning when he
first sawt it, and neither was John Elway when he
first start it. I mean, it was some incredible quarterbacks
that we talked about. But their first year, Troy Aikman,
their first year.
Speaker 5 (25:04):
Oh, it wasn't It was not what you expect. But
I think you're right.
Speaker 3 (25:09):
We go into this whole thing that you draft the
number one guy, You put them out there and then
they take their lumps and they get beat and then
what you're worried about is their confidence.
Speaker 5 (25:18):
I don't want them to lose their confidence. And that's
a huge thing.
Speaker 3 (25:22):
And Bryce talked about growth and he talked about something
else that he said about Tommy Tremble.
Speaker 5 (25:27):
He said he knew he was open, he knew if
he threw it, he knew he would catch it. That's chemistry.
Speaker 3 (25:33):
That's because now you've developed a relationship out there in
the practice field and you go like this, oh, I
can count on this guy right here. And so to
hear him say that, I'm like, Wow, this is a
maturity and a growth that everybody has been participated in,
not just Bryce Young.
Speaker 7 (25:49):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (25:49):
Well, we live in an instant society right where everything
is at our fingertips, So yeah, some guys are gonna
take a little bit longer. I mean, you look at
Tom Brady. I mean, he was a six round draft pick.
No one even expected this guy even play in the
end NFL. He sits behind Drew Bledsoe, and you know,
twenty something years later, he's got a bunch.
Speaker 2 (26:05):
Of the best quarterback that we've ever seen in the life.
And the same thing at other positions. Let's let Xavierly
get developed. He has some injuries off and on this year,
and he's had some good moments, some touchdowns earlier in
this season. He's had some drops along the way. But
let's give him another offseason, another spring and summer camp,
and see what he can do in his sophomore year.
Because again, Jalen Cocher undrafted, looks much smoother, much more
(26:28):
advanced right now, but it doesn't mean get in time,
can't get to where you thought he'd be is the
first round.
Speaker 3 (26:32):
And what I saw what Legette today is that the
tip to catch the ball with his hands, I mean,
and that body catch that where you have a little
bit more comfort of doing that. He was really reaching
out for the ball to causs the ball, and that's
what he's supposed to do because even if you miss it,
it gives you a second chance to cuss the ball.
When your body catch it hits you in the chest pulling,
the ball drops down, bosses off, bounces up, and now
(26:53):
there's an interception, things of that nature. So from that's
to that point, give us time. And there was a
move when they threw a like a little quick screen
to them, tunnel screen. He jetted on the outside and
outran people. I was like, WHOA, Okay, there's some ability
to have no doubt about that. So but you're right.
This is about having people develop and give them time.
(27:14):
And I was surprised at the Office of Line with
the changes they made, would develop this quickly and.
Speaker 5 (27:21):
Be this good.
Speaker 2 (27:21):
Yep, and no Robert Hunt today as far as I know. Wow,
I still put up forty four points.
Speaker 5 (27:25):
All right.
Speaker 2 (27:26):
This is the Panthers' locker Room Show, brought to you
by Southern Star official bourbon of the Carolina Panthers. Celebrate
the spirit of the Carolina Panthers who win in overtime
in Atlanta forty four to thirty eight. You're listening to
Panthers Football brought to you by Morris Jenkins.
Speaker 1 (27:39):
Back to the Panthers postgame show, preseumly by Southern Star
unofficial bourbon of the Carolina Panthers celebrate the spirit of
the Carolinas.
Speaker 2 (27:52):
So the Panthers win in overtime forty four to thirty
eight in Atlanta. There's usually a victory Monday. But since
there's no more work done for a while, is it
just like a victory spring victories winner in spring? Or
how do we how do we handle that till till
training camp?
Speaker 4 (28:07):
How long do we expended that the lockers until Tuesday?
Speaker 2 (28:11):
Oh no, they clean them out, like I think tomorrow
morning they'll be gone. Yeah, players back and they're gone.
Speaker 5 (28:18):
Out. I know about that. We out.
Speaker 2 (28:21):
I mean it's over. It's a very abrupt ending to
a football season.
Speaker 6 (28:25):
No, no, it is.
Speaker 3 (28:26):
I mean a lot of the good buys and things
they are doing. They're saying it right now in the
locker room, right now on the plane. Because typically when
they get back here, guys are going you have that
one physical that you have to do see the doctor.
Speaker 5 (28:38):
Booming and then your off.
Speaker 2 (28:41):
Speaking of injuries, injury updates are brought to you by
a trim healthy. Deserve to live your best life, and
a trim health is here to help. And in the
game Ashaan Robinson, a Caleb Evans who got the start
today among those who left with injuries, and Thomas Kombe
was evaluated for a concussion, but he did return to
play after that. So nothing significant at the end of
the season that will carry over into the offseason injury
(29:03):
wise for the Panthers who get the win here. So
we have addressed it a little bit at the top
about in general, I think we all agree defense has
got to be the priority. You never ignore any position group,
especially on offense. You always want to add to that.
But Eugene, of the three levels of defensive line, linebackers, secondary, what.
Speaker 3 (29:21):
Linebacker, linebacker, linebacker, linebacker just sticks out to me like
a sore thumb. When Shaq went down and then we
had Jewel, we we had such a a hodgepodge of
guys in there trying to find find themselves on the
three to fourth system, and you've got to be spot on,
and the fact that there was too many breaches on
that off the defensive line, that they're getting four or
(29:44):
five six yards a clip.
Speaker 5 (29:46):
I'm like, man, where's my linebackers that?
Speaker 3 (29:48):
And I go back to the time of you know,
a Dan Morgan, I go back to the time of
a Beaston, a Louke Keikley Man. The linebacker has always
been a stellar position in a position that just bust
people up in the mouth, and we need to get
back to that. Dan Morgan talked about we need some dogs.
I'm looking for some dogs. Well, I really believe that
(30:10):
starts with a really nasty middle linebacker who can go
ahead and punch him man in the mouth, just knock
him down, don't apologize, and make things happen. That's what
I'm looking for. So I'm looking for him this draft. Defensively.
Where are those guys? Where are those dogs? Defensively?
Speaker 5 (30:28):
Because I think that makes sense.
Speaker 2 (30:29):
Did you like what you saw off Trevin Wallace when
he absolutely I did.
Speaker 5 (30:32):
I like the way he moves.
Speaker 3 (30:34):
He moves with speed, some power, I mean, and then
he has that little nasty in him too, So I
do like him. But that's the position I thought that,
you know, if we're missing a position, I think it's
that linebacker.
Speaker 4 (30:46):
Yeah, and I think a defensive line. I don't think
you can go wrong with adding depth there, whether it's
an edge rusher or but Derek Brown's back in the mix, right,
But I just I think you can go best available there.
If there's a guy at this spot.
Speaker 2 (30:59):
I think that'd be if he didn't come back and
played ninety eighty percent of the snaps what he did
the year before, to have rotationally, just to keep him
fresh for the fourth quarter.
Speaker 4 (31:05):
Yeah, I don't think he's got wrong with any with
either of those spots, any of the fronts of it.
You can always use a safety in a corner.
Speaker 2 (31:12):
I mean I was gonna say safety, especially because corner
you got j C.
Speaker 10 (31:14):
Horn.
Speaker 2 (31:15):
I liked the way Mike Jack played. You could always
add rotationally some players, but I think safety would be another.
Speaker 6 (31:20):
And here's the thing.
Speaker 3 (31:21):
I think there's a guy that's on the team right
now who in my opinion, I think that is a guy,
and I think it's Richardson. I watched Richardson. I saw
him miss the tackle today, open field tackle. I'm like,
oh man, I would have maybe squeezed a little bit sooner.
This got down in a little bit sooner. To go
ahead and feather a little bit, and he missed a
tackle and I'm like, yeah, but that was b John Robertson.
Speaker 5 (31:41):
So I'm like, Okay, I get it.
Speaker 3 (31:43):
But when I watch him around the ball, he's always
around the ball, and he's a short tackler, and he's
he's just around and I'm like, dude, whenever you're around
the ball, you're gonna make plays. And the only thing
I would suggest that he does is in this offseason,
work on catch the ball. Catch as many footballs as
you can catch it, one hundred two, three hundred passes
(32:04):
a day starting now. Just catch the ball because when
you get around it, great things happen. And now you're
not worried about trying to catch the ball. And that's
one thing I thought that Xavier Woods got into a
little trouboy. He's worried about how to catch the ball
as opposed to just catch it. And he's an Xavier
Woods is around the ball. But I'm looking for Richardson
to maybe supplyt somebody and become one of the starting
(32:26):
safeties here.
Speaker 5 (32:27):
He's just there's something about him. I'm just telling you
something about.
Speaker 2 (32:30):
This guy, like Jailing Cocher on offense where you can
find these undrafted rookie guys that play significant reps and
roles and starters for you. So those are always great
finds to have on a team of fifty three. I
would take a time out here still to hear from
a coach, Dave Canalist. We'll still hear from the final
thoughts of Luke and Jake and a Niche and you
know the scoreboard update coming up for you as well
(32:50):
as you're listening to the Panthers postgame Southern Star Bourbon
post game show following a forty four to thirty eight
win in Atlanta in overtime on the Carolina Panthers Radio Network.
Panthers finished their season five and twelve with a road
win in Atlanta in overtime forty four thirty eight less.
(33:11):
Head back to Atlanta now to hear from the guys
in their final thoughts.
Speaker 7 (33:15):
Every season is a story, and for the Panthers, you
really have to break it into two parts. Early season,
there were a lot of struggles. There was the Bryce
Young benching, there were some injuries, Shaq Thompson, Derek Brown,
a team that was trying to find its identity. Dave
Kanalis said, from the beginning. He wouldn't force an identity.
Speaker 6 (33:38):
On this team.
Speaker 7 (33:38):
It would reveal itself. And it did, and it started
with a home win against the Saints. They followed it
up with a winning Munich against the Giants, two teams
that didn't have great seasons, and then the first sign
that things had turned out of the bye week. Kansas
City comes to town, a team that enters eighteen with
(34:00):
one loss and the best record in the NFL, and
the Panthers nearly beat them. It took a great play
by Patrick Mahomes to beat Carolina, and it was a
sign that the Panthers.
Speaker 6 (34:10):
Had turned the corner. They had made it through rock bottom.
Speaker 7 (34:13):
The arrow was pointing up, and we saw that play
out over the last two plus months of the season.
Their season ends today in Atlanta with a forty four
to thirty eight win against the Falcons. Miles Sanders, a
guy who was in purgatory, had been on IR had
lost his starting job last year, scores the game winning touchdown.
(34:33):
But you gotta start Jake with Bryce Young, who was
benched after week two. He walks off the field in
Week eighteen, not only as a hero and as a
guy who accounted for five touchdowns in a game. But
as somebody who is now a beacon of light for
this franchise as it moves into the offseason.
Speaker 10 (34:50):
Yeah, without a doubt. You know, just the story that
is Bryce Young. And I'm gonna be honest with you,
I'll be the first person to say it, did I
see this happening in September this year? I did not,
because I just I saw flashes last year and then
you preseason, we saw him play one drive and two
games and it's like, gosh, it's something missing. He's just
(35:15):
he's not playing. Andy comes in first game in Las
Vegas throws for all these yards and it's like, okay,
you know, yeah, is it gonna happen with Bryce? And
lo and behold, fate happens he has to play again.
And there was some ups and downs a little bit.
Then you just started seeing a different football player, and
you saw a coaching staff that kind of believed in him,
(35:37):
started giving him more opportunities, and we were missing some
passes deep down the field, and then we start to
connect on a couple of passes deep down the field.
Speaker 6 (35:44):
Then you start see confidence, and next thing you know, we're.
Speaker 10 (35:47):
Expecting him to play well, we're expecting him to be
that guy week in and week out.
Speaker 6 (35:52):
It's crazy how long of an NFL season is and
how things can change. But that's kind of my.
Speaker 10 (35:56):
Big takeaway is just the growth and maturation process of
this young quarterback, this team, and just the way this
team has fought. I don't know the exact date when
we were eliminated from the playoffs, but you know what,
it was in November, right, It was a long time ago,
and this team has just continued to fight and play
like really and truly think about it, Jadavion Clowney did
he I mean late in the game today watching him
(36:18):
make plays, And if you think about it, there'd be
some veterans that, you know what, I'm okay, I'm healthy,
let me go into off season. No, the guy, the
guy limped off the field and he comes back in
and he makes plays. I just I think that just
goes to show you the respect they have, one for
the coaching staff, one for the other players on the team,
and I just think that's something that you can build
on going forward.
Speaker 11 (36:38):
Yeah, I just think you look at, you know, things
that we talked about going into the season, and how
quickly things can happen that. One of the biggest things
last year is how many times Bryce got hit in
the sack numbers and how bad the offensive line was.
And then you go one year and you signed two
guys and now our offensive line is a top ten
offensive line in the in the NFL, And I believe
he can happen that quickly. On the defensive side of
(36:59):
the ball, you know, getting Derek Brown back is going
to be huge. I thought getting Wanum back, you know,
he missed the first ten games of the year. Getting
him back was a boose on the edge. Obviously clowney
A'shawn Robinson came along long way for us. You get
Josie back, hopefully Trevin takes a step in the right direction. Then,
like you guys talked about the draft and free agency,
can we find a way to supplement Can Dan and
(37:22):
Brand and that coaching staff find some guys that can
help us out. And then there's some guys that have
stepped up for us this year that really kind of
came out of nowhere. Never expected Mike Jackson to have
the season that he did. Really didn't know he was
going to be on our team. We traded him for
a seventh round pick right around training camp, has a
big pick today and had to pick early in the
season that helped us.
Speaker 6 (37:42):
Win a football game.
Speaker 11 (37:43):
And then guys like Jalen Cocher free agents that come
in that got cut and then we bring him back
and then we put them on the active roster, had
a couple huge catches today. Obviously the pass on the
double pass. It's just you've got guys that stepped up
and have really put their foot down and said, hey,
we're a big time member of this team. And obviously
Mike Jackson's a free agent, but there were some guys
that stepped up and put their foot down and really
(38:04):
helped us win some games this year. So on the
defense side of the ball, it was a big struggle
this year. We really had a difficult time stop in people.
But I believe it can turn around quickly, and I
think we have a great coaching staff.
Speaker 6 (38:14):
To do it.
Speaker 7 (38:15):
The Panthers started this season as a punchline for a
lot of national pundits. They finish it by learning how
to punch back. And I thought two of the biggest moments,
you lose to Dallas, you bounce back with a win
against Arizonarecht lose to Tampa last week, you bounce back
with a road win against Atlanta. They hadn't won many
(38:36):
games over the last few years on the road. It's
Bryce Young's first road win. And we saw a quarterback
grow leaps and bounds before our eyes, and he's turning
into something special. And he's got a knack for the moments,
much like you did, Jake, Much like you did Luke.
He comes up with these big plays and you get
into crunch time situations. You see Number nine in the
(38:56):
huddle smiling, laughing. It's a different feeling and going into
the off season, it's a good feeling. That does it
for us, guys. It's been a pleasure as always. He's
Louke Kickley, He's Jake Delome. I'm an a Shroff. Forty
four to thirty eight. Panthers knock off the Falcons to
end this two twenty twenty four season. They get their
(39:20):
fifth win of the year. They beat a division rival.
Some good feelings into the winter months.
Speaker 2 (39:27):
And as our old friend Mick once said, at the
fen Falcons and by that he met the letter F
in the end zone.
Speaker 6 (39:33):
At the F.
Speaker 5 (39:34):
Yeah zone, Yeah, Falcon.
Speaker 2 (39:38):
But it sounds like the outcons.
Speaker 5 (39:39):
Yeah, we'll make sure we clear that up and clean
that up.
Speaker 2 (39:44):
From Atlanta. Panthers get the win there, so a lot's
good to feel about with what they did there fid
So it's like, again, they covered a lot of the
names of the players that have stepped up and emerged
and so forth. But overall there, I think, you know,
it all comes down to Eugene and Mike is you know,
building the culture of what trying to create here because
you kind of have to undo what was here before
to some degree, and then you know, start with your
(40:06):
own base and build up. And it took a while.
You think about that first game in New Orleans and
it's like, oh boy, going to be a long year
and this is not looking good. But after two weeks
of that and bringing in Andy for a spell at
quarterback and then coming back to Bryce later on, you
kind of felt like this little little snowball became like
a big snowball effect as things got rolling, you know,
And here's.
Speaker 5 (40:26):
What you think about this too.
Speaker 3 (40:28):
You kind of really almost wipe a clean slate when
you got to put all your people in place. There's
so many moving parts, lots of moving parts, and then
you're hoping that guy stay healthy so that they can
be a part of that of your schemes and whatnot.
And so it was always a work in progress for
Coast Canalis, always a work in progress.
Speaker 5 (40:49):
And don't forget we've been letting football players go.
Speaker 3 (40:52):
Like some people fall in love with the different receivers
DJ when he was here, I mean, he's a great receiver,
but he wasn't the fit for you, right, he wasn't.
That guy could have been a fit, it looks like,
but now it looks like he's not a fit on anybody.
Speaker 6 (41:05):
See.
Speaker 3 (41:06):
So from that standpoint, you got to find those guys
that really can do your system and you got to
build it really build it out.
Speaker 5 (41:14):
And so that takes some time.
Speaker 3 (41:16):
And to get five wins and have a chance to
maybe have seven wins really honestly, or maybe eight wis
I mean coach Kanal is, Wow, I would say you
did a good job.
Speaker 4 (41:25):
And I'd say he's kind of earned everybody's trust, right,
I mean obviously in the locker room, which is the
most important, and then on out. I mean, you know,
when you look at the last you know, five six
years with you know, all the different coaches we've had here.
This clearly is Dave Canalis's team, absolutely, and he's got
this team clicking on all cylinders and moving in the
(41:47):
right direction.
Speaker 3 (41:48):
I think offensively, they they look like a juggernaut today.
They put up a lot of points forty four points,
but they've been looking offensively, very very good. With deception
of that, I think the Dallas game and the Tampa
Bay game that happened later, did they really weren't I mean,
they weren't over mats at all, didn't seem to be
(42:09):
overmass at all. So I believe in the process, and
I think the guys believe in the coach Kanalis, and
I think it's going to go a long long way.
Speaker 4 (42:17):
And his temperament too. Like you know, obviously there's probably
things behind the scenes that we don't see, but I
think his persona that we see in the public is
the same that is in the locker room. And I
think that's had a calming effect. And I think, you know,
we've seen when coaches have lost the message, you know
what I mean, or the players have lost the message.
And this team is bought in right now, I think
they are all right.
Speaker 2 (42:37):
Speaking of coach Canals, will be hearing from him coming up,
and we'll get our hardest working player of the game
as well. Panthers win over Atlanta in overtime forty four
thirty eight and you're listening to Panthers Football brought to
you by Morris Jenkins.
Speaker 1 (42:49):
Back to Jim's Oky with more of the Panthers postgame
show pre seem a by Southern Star unofficial bourbon of
the Carolina Panther celebrate the spirit up in Carolinas.
Speaker 2 (43:04):
First season of the Dave Canalis coaching era ends with
a fifth win as the Panthers win in Atlanta forty
four thirty eight. Five and twelve may now sounded like
a lot, but considering the team was two and fifteen
last year, progress beyond the record of what we saw
with the product on the field. Let's check back in Atlanta.
Out here the final thoughts of the coach.
Speaker 7 (43:23):
We're joined by Panthers head coach Dave Canalis after a
thrilling overtime win to end the season forty four to
thirty eight Panthers over the Falcons. Coach, it's been so
fun from our perspective to watch this team's journey from
your vantage point being inside all of it. How do
you best characterize this team's journey from where it started
(43:45):
to where it ended?
Speaker 12 (43:47):
Finish the mentalities and just continue to play hard. And
I think we've been in so many situations, you know,
why not have another overtime battle, you know, to end
the season. And you know, we tell the guys, you know,
as long as we got time and downs, were comfortable
in that situation. And you know, to think about the
challenges we've had this year offensively and defensively for guys
to be you know, be able to just continue to
(44:08):
play football, you know, as long as we have time left.
It was It's such a testament to the character of
this group.
Speaker 7 (44:12):
How do you characterize Bryce Young's journey?
Speaker 12 (44:15):
Unbelievable resilience, consistency, hopefulness, possibilities, mindset, you know, looking for
how good can we become? Pushing to find his best,
pushing his players, his teammates to find their best, you know,
all of us, and and really just given me a
chance to like I could, I could have blindfoldedly just
(44:36):
called any play on that card, and I felt like
Bryce was going to do the right thing on it.
And it's just it's great to have a quarterback that's
going to make great decisions.
Speaker 6 (44:43):
Coaches, Jake, was that the first time this year? You
felt that way?
Speaker 12 (44:48):
No, it just kind of came together that way. You know,
it's one of those days where it's like, you know,
we had a couple of trick plays in there, and
and you know, he he kind of had the the
last you know, he had the last decision on whether
whether or not to let the and then you know,
just a couple of other opportunities where he you know,
they covered a swell and he made the play right
by scrambling or you know, finding a completion after that.
So you know, it's just it's really cool just to
(45:10):
be able to keep building our systems, keep building our
process and our concepts, and knowing he's got an ownership
and a mastery of those things, which gives me a
lot of freedom.
Speaker 10 (45:19):
Well, it felt that way watching him today. It seemed
like the game was in slow motion and total control. Now,
I'm going to put you on the spot because I
asked Bryce this question and he tried to dance around
the answer.
Speaker 6 (45:29):
Who called the last play on the touchdown?
Speaker 5 (45:32):
Well, we had a play called.
Speaker 12 (45:33):
Okay, we had a pass called, and you know, he
kind of came off and I told him, here's my
options right here, and you know, he really loved the
idea of giving that ball to Miles to see if
we can punch it in one more time. And it
was a really special moment, you know, for Miles to
battle through the things he did and come back and
finish with his teammates with special.
Speaker 10 (45:49):
Yeah, because he was so demonstrative when you came to
the sideline. He was just talking when y'all were huddled,
y'all right beneath us in the booth, and I'm like, Okay,
Bryce feels strong about a certain play and that's what
I was just wondering.
Speaker 6 (46:00):
Exactly what it was. Absolutely, yeah, Coach.
Speaker 11 (46:02):
I Just another guy that's had a great season is
Brady Christiansen. He's played, he's played guard, he's played guard, center, tackle,
he played jumbo today and just his journey this year
and the luxury to have a guy like that, and
I feel like he was really instrumental in the run
game today.
Speaker 12 (46:17):
A special guy, a true pros pro who just applies
himself to the game plan and is ready to go
wherever we need him. He's been unbelievable. I think Brady
has done such a great job, you know, knowing he's
a free agent this year, he's done such an amazing
job for himself, you know, and for his future. And
I think, you know, the the underlying deal is for
Brady to finish this season healthy, you know, and some
(46:39):
Nixon this, you know, some bumps and bruises here and there,
but like to be able to finish the season, you know,
the way he did and to add the value that
he did is really special.
Speaker 7 (46:49):
Coach, incredible effort today. It's been fun to watch this
thing come together. Enjoy this one and we'll talk to
you tomorrow.
Speaker 6 (46:56):
Thanks all right, Thanks guys, Thanks coach, congrats.
Speaker 2 (46:59):
Nice way to finish it for Coach Canalis and who
win there? And his message has been about a couple
of things, but finished has been one of the bigger
underlying messages this year. And they finish in overtime to
get a victory that could have gone to either team, you.
Speaker 3 (47:13):
Know, And you gotta really like the fact that, you know,
as a new coach and as a guy who's unproven
and being able to go ahead and get five wins,
to go ahead and take over his team. I wonder
what he has to go through for that to go ahead,
and to be a guy, and also to be a
young guy too, because he's still young, he's still a
(47:34):
young coach. And to find himself as being the head
guy and to come out really with a positive season.
Speaker 5 (47:41):
That has to make him feel really, really good.
Speaker 3 (47:43):
I mean I would be patting myself from the back,
or somebody needs to pat him on the back, because
I thought that was no small mission.
Speaker 4 (47:50):
Well, this team is significantly better today than they were
at this time after week one. That's right, And you know,
just think how hard it is. I mean, we'll use
the kind of ephimism fifty three players, but it's really
more than that, because guys get hurt, the guys come,
you know, come and go. But so to be able
to get everybody on the same page, buy in to
the message, and then continue to improve and it is
(48:13):
a process. And I know that word gets thrown around
a lot, but you know it's really I guess the
old way of saying it would have been, you know,
here's the plan. We're gonna stick to the plan. We
need to change the plan, we'll change the plan, but
this is the plan, and this is how we're gonna
move forward, you.
Speaker 3 (48:25):
Know, and they've been moving forward extremely well, and I like,
I like what I see where the team is going
and headed. And I think when you got the free agency,
that's gonna happeny, that's gonna happen in draft. I think
it's gonna be critical for Dan Morgan to get those
right pieces to fit because I don't think you're that
(48:46):
far off.
Speaker 5 (48:47):
I really don't believe you that far.
Speaker 4 (48:48):
And I don't think the players think that that that's
the more important thing, right I mean, you know, we
can say that the fans can be happy about some things,
but the guys in the locker room if they're if
they're bought in, and if they believe it, then good
things can happen.
Speaker 2 (49:00):
No, you think back to where this team was at
the beginning of the year to where it was in
the second half of New Orleans. I mean, yeah, that
was brutal. It just felt like that feels like that
was like twenty twenty three never left. We're still in
that season when it began with that, and then you
lose to the Chargers twenty six to three the week
after that. So it was a rough start to the season.
(49:20):
But the Panthers finished at a high note with the
overtime victory in Atlanta. Today, we have one more segment
to go, Michael, we give you one more scoreboard update.
When we come back, we'll select our hardest working player
of the game. Brought to you by Sun Belt Reynolds.
And you're listening to Panthers Football brought to you by
Morris Jenkins.
Speaker 1 (49:34):
The Panthers postgame show continues. Please see him a by

Speaker 4 (49:46):
Well, welcome you back to the Southern starbourban postgame show.
Mike Pachico, Jim's Oke, Eugene Robinson, Drive around the League
brought to you by your Honda Dealers of the Carolina's
update you on the late games here, Denver has to
win to get in. Right now, they have a three
touchdown lead, three touchdown passes from bow Knicks, and they
lead Kansas City now twenty one to nothing. Carson wentz
(50:08):
in for Patrick Mahomes and at quarterback in that game,
so maybe not great news for Miami. They needed to
win and at Denver loss to get in, and right
now they're trailing the Jets seven to six. Aaron Rodgers
a touchdown pass in that game, So now he joins
a very exclusive club only five. He's the fifth player
to pass or to have five hundred career touchdown.
Speaker 5 (50:28):
Wow. Impressive, absolutely impressive.
Speaker 2 (50:30):
Great way to go out in his final game.
Speaker 4 (50:32):
Could be, could be? Could be a Swan song or
in the Big Apple.
Speaker 2 (50:35):
I just said it.
Speaker 4 (50:35):
Okay, well, then it must be true.
Speaker 2 (50:37):
I don't know that to be true.
Speaker 4 (50:38):
Okay, it's not true.
Speaker 2 (50:39):
I feel like it's true, though.
Speaker 4 (50:40):
We've been watching San Francisco at Arizona, that game all
even at ten apiece, chippy game.
Speaker 2 (50:46):
Oh yeah, a couple of big guy but Jennings or
whatever you go for the Niners.
Speaker 4 (50:50):
Yep, some fifth scuffs there at let's see Las Vegas
and the La Chargers Raiders at home leading ten to six,
and we already mentioned the other two games, and then
coming up tonight, really the game for all the marbles.
It's a Minnesota at Detroit. The winner of that game
gets the number one seed and the bye in the NFC.
The loser gets the number five picks.
Speaker 5 (51:12):
The company BUYE is important. You give it, you get
that BUYE.
Speaker 3 (51:16):
You got left teams beat up on each other that
the previous week, and then you get then you get
the spoilers there of that team that's got finished beating
up on somebody another team.
Speaker 5 (51:24):
So that was all important when we were doing that
super over road that was with the Green Bay and Land.
Oh yeah, no, bye is important.
Speaker 2 (51:31):
And there's a generation of listeners who have no idea
what all the marbles means, because you'd have to be
have grown up in the nineteen forties. I understand for
all the m and ms, all the marbles, but I
mean I think for I mean, I think you should
still get something for winning the division.
Speaker 4 (51:44):
So I think that's still important. But for the people
that think about receding, this is an argument. You know,
two teams. One team's gonna be fourteen and three, and
yet they're gonna have to go on the road and
a team with a lesser record is gonna host. But
I still think winning the division has to have some
sort of week.
Speaker 3 (51:58):
Yeah, I think so too, But maybe winning the Vision
having that weight and then having a team that really
showed out with fourteen fifteen wins, then maybe that team
that didn't farewell, you have.
Speaker 5 (52:09):
To go to this spot.
Speaker 2 (52:10):
All right, we have some more business to get to
that's the hardest working player of the game, presented by
Sun Belgia Rentals, the official rental equipment partner of the
Carolina Panthers. Mike, who is your player of the game
as far as the hardest working player of the game.
Speaker 4 (52:22):
You know what, there's a lot of terrific candidates. I
think it's got to be Bryce. You know, twenty five
of thirty four two fifty one yards three touchdowns had
a passerrating one twenty three point five. I think Jalen
Cocher I think would be a legitimate he you know,
seven for sixty two. Miles Sanders arguably had his best
game as a Panther. But for me, it's Bryce.
Speaker 5 (52:40):
Youw it's got to be Bryce. For mean athlete.
Speaker 3 (52:42):
Bryce was just super duper outstanding today. And he looks
like he looked like Joe Montagna.
Speaker 2 (52:50):
Now Joe Montana.
Speaker 3 (52:52):
Joe Montana. He looked like Joe Montana. He looked really
really good today. I was really proud of the effort
that we saw. And man, he was the spot on today.
Speaker 2 (53:00):
All right, let's take our crew. Harold Hamrick Hem, Jason Hutchinson, Hutched,
Wendell Black. What you pus, David eads.
Speaker 5 (53:08):
Oh, David was David.

He's he's just kidding.
Speaker 5 (53:25):

Speaker 2 (53:25):
He's just he's just acting. Put Amy Martin, our favorite Martin,
Eric Filman, our Phillips Mann, Sharon Thornson on the side

Speaker 5 (53:33):
