Speaker 1 (00:03):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
To Brett McMillan with the Panthers postgame show presented by
Southern Star Unofficial Burman of the Carolina Panthers celebrate the
spirit of the Carolinas.
Speaker 3 (00:17):
It's a winning streak two and a row for the Panthers,
and maybe want to play all our games overseas?
Speaker 4 (00:22):
Yeah, there you go.
Speaker 5 (00:23):
That sounds good. Two and oho in Europe.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
Is the Panthers pick up on overtime win beating the
Giants twenty to seventeen. Luck with you, Gene Robinson, Mike Pachico,
and Brett McMillan. Glad to have you with us. Panthers
defense stood up well where they needed to, got a
couple of pickoffs in red zone territory, and then they
picked up a fumble and turned that into the game
winning points.
Speaker 5 (00:46):
Feel good way to start off a Sunday afternoon. Is
it the guys, man?
Speaker 4 (00:50):
This is really really good.
Speaker 6 (00:51):
I'll be telling you what just the start of the game,
how the game started initially with the offense ticking the
ball and just the ability to run the ball, and
they're running it effectively. I mean a common play we
do is you take a tight end slam down on
the line close in and then you pull a guard
or you pull a tackle out and you sweep the ball.
We were able to do that in too, but it
(01:12):
was able to find that that running lane and get
substantial yard. As I said, you better watch out. I
think this game is gonna be one off the strength
of the back of that offensive line, because they were
doing a marvelous job. And I thought the way they
came out running the ball, I was like, this is
gonna be a great recipe for success.
Speaker 7 (01:29):
And complimentary football comes in different forms, and today was
the offense playing well early, the defense played pretty stout well.
But then at the end of the game. Yes, you know,
you got that big interception from Jewel, even though the
Panthers weren't able to convert on that, but then the
big fumble recovery Ashawn Robinson forcing the fumble, Jewel with
the recovery. Yeah, I mean, Josie Jewel had a terrific game. Yeah,
(01:51):
I thought.
Speaker 6 (01:52):
Defensively, I thought even the secondary earlier in the game,
they they did a great job. We had a couple
of sacks there too, and I was like, man, this
is some covered sacks that's going on here too, because
Jackson and Horn, in my opinion, played extremely well covering
the receivers. There was no doubt they got the hand
on some bat balls down the field and they just
(02:15):
seem to.
Speaker 4 (02:15):
Be like glue all over the receiver.
Speaker 6 (02:18):
And then when we were playing zone, even when we
were playing zone, when someone was catching the ball, there
was a guy that was right there, so no one
was really running free. So I thought secondary wives, I
thought we played extremely extremely well.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
When you talk about the turnovers, Mike, could you know,
one of the stats people like to look at is
points off turnovers. But to me, that's a deceptive stat
because there are two types of turnovers. In my book,
there are opportunity turnovers and prevention turnover. You run about
to and the first two turnovers the Panthers had today
were prevention turnovers. You get an interception to the end
zone when the Giants are at their eighteen yard line
(02:56):
of the twenty yard line, you get an interception of
the end zone that takes it least three points off
the board. And then the next one, you get the
interception of the end zone when the Giants at the
eight yard line that takes another at least three points
off the board. So the fact that you don't end
up getting points off of that, you kept points off
(03:17):
the board. He almost guaranteed points off the board. Consider
where the Giants were on the field, a.
Speaker 6 (03:22):
Huge shift, and don't forget the ball was tipping one
when Woods got the interception, and then Josie Jews did
a great job of staying with the play. The ball
thrown a little bit behind, but as it gets Sam
was in there. He's able to go ahead and corral
that ball and get an interception. And you're right, You're
absolutely right. Those are prevention plays because you're gonna almost
concede with Canno that they're gonna get three points.
Speaker 4 (03:44):
You can almost conceive the three points.
Speaker 6 (03:46):
But when you get nothing and you have to go
to your bench and you got nothing, that is deflating
for any offense and deflating for the head coach on
that side. Dabble going like this, going, my goodness, man,
were down there and with self struck.
Speaker 7 (04:00):
Yeah, giants have to feel like they let one slip.
Not to say that the Panthers didn't, you know, earn
the win. They certainly did, but you have can know
with the missed field goal and then that fumble in overtime.
Speaker 8 (04:09):
I mean those are two grat breakers.
Speaker 6 (04:12):
Two sacks, two interceptions, that fumble and a miss point
and the Giants were still in that game. And that's
that's crazy because you wouldn't think that they would be
in the game that one. They should be getting blown out.
But we were able to the whole whole serve and
we did not think, Well, he got Chuba Hubbard. You
talked about the running game. Yes, that's something the Panthers knew.
(04:33):
They wanted a concentrat on. The Giants have not been
good against the running game this year twenty eighth. Right,
Yet Chewba Hubbard goes out there today, he gets one
hundred and fifty three yards rushing today. His career high
coming into today was one hundred and twenty five against
the Lions on that Chile Christmas Eve game in twenty
twenty two, one hundred and twenty five that day. Gets
one hundred and fifty three today, and he had top
(04:55):
that through three quarters. You know, and I've been calling
for Chewba Hubbard to go ahead and run the I've
been you know, on Monday next when we get a
chance to talk to coach, I'm like, hey, well, we
see more Tuba Hubbard, and he was always saying, yeah,
we're gonna see more, and we saw a lot of
Tube of today. There was no doubt he ran the
ball effectively. And I love when a running back gets
the ball in the sweep and they have those blockers
(05:16):
in front where they can go ahead and pick their
hole and which way they're gonna go in and go.
And I think he has a great He does a
great job with his vision for real vision and then
making that play get up the pills, so choop. In
my opinion, he's been doing everything we've seen this early
in the season, and we're seeing it midseason and we'll
probably see it late. He is one of the better
(05:37):
running backs in the National Football League, no doubt about it.
Speaker 8 (05:40):
And he just got paid this week.
Speaker 4 (05:41):
Yes, Oh, and he just got paid.
Speaker 8 (05:43):
Yeah, And good for him. I mean that's you know, and.
Speaker 4 (05:45):
They good recognition by the Panthers.
Speaker 7 (05:47):
Yeah, And I think a niche and Jim and Luke
were talking about this in the booth. You know, they
really like how Tuba fits into the culture here. So
not only is he effective, but he's also you know,
a good leader, good teammate, good in the Clubhouse. So
those are all, you know, super positives.
Speaker 6 (06:05):
And he runs the ball effectively, It's no doubt about that.
I love his running style. He just makes plays when
he's out there, and he's so confident when he runs
the ball.
Speaker 5 (06:15):
Well, we gotta like.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
Coming your way over the next hour here on the
Panthers Postgame Show presented by Southern Star Bourbon. So you
want to stay with us, we'll hear for the head
coach at players as well, get their reaction on this
day that went on in London. We'll get you some
of the early scores as these games are just getting
ready to kick off. First of all, we're going to
pause in the seconds for station identification on the Carolina
Panthers Radio Network. All right, when we come back, we'll
(06:38):
go over some of the stats from today's ball game.
So stay with us, oh the Carolina Panthers Radio Network,
and welcome back to the Patris' Postgame Show, presented by
Southern Star and official Bourbon of the Carolina Panthers. Celebrate
the spirit of the Carolinas Panthers winning and overtime over
the New York Giants twenty to seventeen in a field
(07:00):
goal by Eddie Pinero after a giant turnover in overtime
gives the Panthers the winning this game. We'll going to
get some of the stats from today's ball game. Mike
Pachico's here, Eugene Robinson's here. Bryce Young fifteen of twenty
five for one hundred and twenty six yards passing. He
also had one touchdown on the day and a quarterback
(07:21):
rating whatever that means, of eighty six point four. You know,
you think he had a better quarterback rating than that
when you didn't have any interceptions in one touchdown.
Speaker 4 (07:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (07:31):
I thought Also on that one testdown, I thought he
was going to run in for a testdown. You know,
he had the opportunity to guy to do that. But
he played well. Bryce played. The stats does not show
how well he played today. He played well.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
You can see the last two weeks. His confidence is
at a different level than it was at the beginning
of the season, no doubt.
Speaker 6 (07:51):
And I thought the protection that the offensive line was
giving him allowed him to sit back there and look
to see and not be hurried brush. It was only
one time he was hurried and rushed. In my opinion,
he was bootlegging out to his left hand side Brian
Burrs ends up kind of like tackle him a little bit,
but he doesn't fall down, and then he gets somebody
(08:11):
he rushes the ball.
Speaker 4 (08:12):
If he just got back up.
Speaker 6 (08:13):
And just had a little bit more patience, he's not
only going to complete the pass, but he's probably gonna
go ahead and pick up a first down. And so
what I saw, I was like, you know what, that's
the only time I saw him rushed or impatient, you know,
other than that, he was a very patient quarterback down
looking down the field and being real strategic with.
Speaker 8 (08:31):
The ball, right And I think you want him to be.
Speaker 7 (08:33):
You know, he's got to get stages, I think, to
get to where you want to be and right now,
if he can be a solid game manager, you'll take that,
oh absolutely. And that's exactly I think where he's you know,
he's i mean light years from where he was to
start the season, and you can see that he's playing better.
I think he's making better decisions, and you know, I
think arm strength is something that we need to keep
(08:54):
it onye On. I mean, you like some of those
showers have a little bit more zip on him. But
he's making the plays and not turning the ball over.
Speaker 8 (08:58):
And that's what you And even on.
Speaker 6 (09:00):
Well route that we saw that it was a third
down and two we were talking about, hey, he should
just go the something short.
Speaker 4 (09:06):
He overthrew the receiver.
Speaker 6 (09:07):
A little bit and I was like, Okay, you know,
I'm not happy with the play, but I'll get it
because at least you're throwing the ball well, only your
guy can get.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
It and get it right. Yep.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
The rushing department cheb Hubbard a career high one hundred
and fifty three yards today and I was on twenty
eight carries and that was five point five yards.
Speaker 5 (09:24):
He also had a touchdown on the day.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
Young carried the ball twice for thirty yards, and Miles Sanders,
before going out injured two carries for five yards. In
the receiving department, Cocher had three receptions for forty one
yards to get three four forty yards. Moore had two
for eighteen, Hubbard had four for sixteen. Sanders had two
(09:46):
catches for eight yards. That's not that's Jay Sanders, not
Miles Sanders. That's the TAVI on Santa.
Speaker 5 (09:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
He had the first touchdown of the day and Ian
Thomas won catch for three yards. He also went out injured.
Defensively for the Panthers today, h J. C. Horn had
eight tackles on the day. Also, Xavier Woods had eight tackles,
seven for Robinson and uh seven for Wallace, six for
one of them and six for Jewels, six for Fuller,
(10:19):
six for Jackson, five for Tuttle.
Speaker 5 (10:21):
Two sacks. On the day.
Speaker 3 (10:22):
DJ Oneam got a sack and also a Shawn Robinson
got a sack. A Shawn Robinson caused the fumble in
overtime that was recovered by uh See who recovered it
was recovered by Jose Jewel who also had an interception,
and Xavier Woods had an interception as well, just really quickly.
(10:44):
For the Giants today, Daniel Jones had it was twenty
two of thirty seven for one hundred and ninety yards
and he had two interceptions. So he had the miserable
quarterback rating of fifty point five. Let me know what,
let me know what a perfect quarterback rating is one
hundred instead of.
Speaker 4 (10:58):
One or whatever. It is two point three where it works.
Speaker 7 (11:02):
Yeah, yeah, this was a really from a team stats,
it was really a tale of two halves. You know,
Panthers had that ton nothing lead, but in the second
half it was seventeen to ten for the Giants, and
the numbers will reflect that because Panthers had nine less
first downs twenty four to fifteen in favor of the Giants.
But third down is interesting because the Giants finished forty
(11:22):
percent on third down seven to fifteen. Panthers were six
of fifteen, but the Giants were one for five from
third down in the first half. So in the time
of possession flipped too. The Panthers had a plus two
time of possession advantage in the first half, but overall
they ended up almost seven minutes less in the second half,
but a lot of that was the Giants trying to
(11:44):
come from behind and they had a couple of long drives,
so that kind of adjusted things there. But rushing wise,
Panthers had a better rushing day one hundred and eight
yards to one hundred and sixty seven, and they had
one yard more per rush than the Giants did five
point nine to four point.
Speaker 6 (11:59):
I liked where the uh, you know, last week we
talked about the defense was bending but not breaking, and
this week I just thought they and particularly in the
second half, they just seem to be stout. They seem
to keep us in the game and keep the Giants
at bay. And those turnovers are I mean huge turnovers.
That's what we were looking for. Early in the season,
(12:20):
when your offense is struggling, you're looking for the defense
to go ahead and come up with some stuff and
turn the tie. And you're look, you're looking for interceptions,
fumbles and and sacks. And today we saw all of that,
all of the above. And you know what, half off
the coach of Jarrow. I mean, that was some really good,
some good play because I mean the Giants I don't
(12:42):
think they're a bad offensive team at all. I think
defensively they struggle, but officibally, I don't think they that
they're bad, not at all.
Speaker 7 (12:49):
And the last number is just penalties, three for fifteen
for the Giants, ten of eighty seven for the Panthers.
Speaker 3 (12:55):
Yeah, and that's another thing was heard they can alway
talk about to clean up. Yeah, because that early it
was interest because they had a touchdown called back.
Speaker 4 (13:02):
Right and ended up with.
Speaker 3 (13:06):
But we scored a touchdown with Tuba after that tube
I scored after yeah, yeah, yeah. You ended up with
the illegal formation and then a motion penalty right after that,
and you thought, oh boy, you just went from a
touchdown to you know, it was like a first and
eighteen or something like that, second and eighteen and you thought, yeah,
we're headed for field goal territory here.
Speaker 6 (13:25):
And that was after everybody checked in legally on that
play too, and you had they covered up the uh,
the the one the office tackle him at sixty two
that tied and covered him up eighty four. And so
you can't cover him up when he declared that he's eligible.
That stuff should get taken care of before you get
on the field. Everybody knows what the assignment is. Hey,
he's eligible, you should be back off the ball.
Speaker 3 (13:47):
Yeah, and a lot of times that's that's been something
the that the officials have been emphasizing all year long,
year long. So yeah, you're to the point of the
year where that shouldn't be happening. All right, still ahead,
Well here from the head coach Dave Canal, who also
get you up to date on the early action. Okay,
the normal early normal action. Yes, early action today. The
(14:08):
Panthers were the early action today. That's right, We'll get
you up to dated the normal early action. Just get
it underway around the NFL. Also here from the guys
in Munich can get their final thoughts of what happened
as well, So still a lot of the way you

Luke and a Niche have found out that there's a
drive through beer Hall the way to the airport as
they have now caught up with our player of the game.
Speaker 10 (15:33):
Guys, thanks and welcome back and it was worth the
wait on DJ Wanam. I know it's been a long
road back to your DJ, Jim along with a Niche
and Luke up here, but to get this first game
for you in Munich and you are.
Speaker 1 (15:46):
A big part of this win today as well.
Speaker 10 (15:48):
What's it feel like to get back on the field
for you after the long time and they have such
a victorious, great win in a difficult place to come
all the way across the globe to get the victory today.
Speaker 11 (16:00):
Man, it feels good, man, just being back with the guys,
being able to go out there and you know what
I'm saying, playball with the guys again. It's been a
long journey obviously, but you know what I'm saying, The
work's been put in. You know what I'm saying throughout
the whole entire team, this defense, you know what I'm saying,
we put it together today.
Speaker 12 (16:15):
It's gonna continue going forward.
Speaker 9 (16:18):
DJ describe the journey back to the field for you.
Speaker 11 (16:23):
Oh man, it's been a long journey. But hey, I
know what type of person I am. I got guy
with me each and every step of the way, and
resilience is all it is.
Speaker 12 (16:31):
Man. I feel like I didn't even get hurt out
there today.
Speaker 11 (16:33):
You know what I'm saying. I ain't been through nothing
how fucked out there on the field today. So it's
just just part of the process.
Speaker 13 (16:39):
DJ.
Speaker 9 (16:40):
For your kicker Eddie Pinero, I know you guys know
he's a big soccer fan, yep in this stadium. To
hit a game winning kicking overtime, what do you think
that meant to him?
Speaker 11 (16:49):
Oh my god, it meant so much to him, just
from his his background, from you know what I'm saying,
soccer and all that, and just being here in Germany.
Speaker 12 (16:56):
I know he's gonna remember this for the rest of
his life.
Speaker 14 (16:58):
DJ Luke here, Hey, you played awesome today. Gave us
a great boost. What I want to know is how
did I want to I want to know how are
you able to play as many snaps as you did.
Everybody knows that playing football is very different than being
in normal shape. Just talk about everything that you that
you did to make sure that when you came out
here you were able to play the number of STAPs
you did at the high level you did.
Speaker 11 (17:19):
Oh man, it's just just a part of the process.
We got a great staff here and here at Carolina.
The train has made sure I was good. The stream
staff did a good job and making sure I was
strong and in shape and ready to go.
Speaker 12 (17:29):
And then obviously, you know what I'm saying. I got
a little winded today.
Speaker 11 (17:31):
But when it's time to win the game, you know
what I'm saying, you got to have your dogs in
the field.
Speaker 12 (17:35):
I'm ready to go.
Speaker 1 (17:36):
There, We're going.
Speaker 5 (17:36):
I like go.
Speaker 12 (17:37):
I like it.
Speaker 14 (17:37):
Congratulations, man, it's good to have you back out there.
I know you missed playing, yep. And what a joy
to come and play in front of this crowd for
your first game back.
Speaker 10 (17:45):
Appreciation all right, thank you, DJ DJ one. I'm there
and a big part of the victory. Immediately had an
impact on this Panthers defense in the run and in
the defensive pass game as well in overtime from Munich
twenty to seventeen Panthers win over the Giant. We go
back to Charlotte now with Mike Eugene and Brett.
Speaker 3 (18:03):
That sounds like the crowd's already h say, it sounds
like they have god to beer hall, the concourse or something.
But yeah, DJ gets a sack today. You know, a
guy the Panthers got from the Vikings. I had a
lot of success with the Vikings coming back home of
sorts of former game cock do uh to finally get
some action to be able to have a successful debut today.
Speaker 7 (18:26):
He did and he's uh, you know, all the battles
that he's had to go through, I mean the antibiotics
directly injected into his veins coming back from surgery, because
you know, there was some some stuff going on after
the after the surgery. And then I thought Luke made
a really good point, like you know, a lot of
times you talk about maybe it takes a game or
two to right and so to be able to leave
(18:50):
it out on the field today in a win, uh,
you know, I know we're gonna have our hardest player
of the game. He's certainly a candidate for that position
for that title.
Speaker 6 (18:58):
Today you heard your saying he did get win did
a little bit, you know, because you know, not playing
for such a long time, you gotta get your wind up.
Speaker 4 (19:06):
But you gotta be running back down.
Speaker 8 (19:07):
You can run on a treadmill from it is.
Speaker 4 (19:10):
Not the same at all.
Speaker 6 (19:11):
And so congratulations to him, because that's a mental hurdle
you have to get over as you get back in
the mix of like, am I gonna be able to
be out there for a number of plays like I
normally am?
Speaker 4 (19:23):
And so he was able to do that today.
Speaker 3 (19:24):
All right, everybody in the locker room, raise your hand
if you don't want to weak off next week.
Speaker 5 (19:29):
J I don't know, man, with.
Speaker 8 (19:33):
All he played today, he might want to. Oh yeah,
you might want to go.
Speaker 4 (19:36):
Yeah. He's got a little breathing.
Speaker 3 (19:37):
He's ready to get back out there and do it
again next week. But unfortunate, it's not gonna happen.
Speaker 5 (19:41):
All right, when we.
Speaker 3 (19:42):
Come back, we'll get you updated on what's happening around
the NFL in the one o'clock game. So stay with
us here on the Carolina Panthers Radio Network and welcome
back to the Panthers postgame Show live from Back in
(20:02):
America Stadium. Along with the Gene Robinson, Mike Pachico, Brett
McMillan were here presented by Southern Star and official bourbon
of the Carolina Panthers celebrate the spirit of the Carolina's
Panthers picked up win number three today and then number
two in a row as they knocked off the New
York Giants, or as Chris Burman likes to say, that
New York Football Giants twenty to seventeen in over time.
(20:24):
That's five losses in a row for the Giants, two
wins in a row for the Panthers, and two wins
and two trips overseas. So the Panthers are now undefeated
in other countries two and oh.
Speaker 8 (20:36):
Last time was it twenty nineteen they played They beat
in London.
Speaker 5 (20:40):
The beat the tar out of Tampa Bay, if I
hear correctly.
Speaker 8 (20:43):
So, yeah, let's let's schedule more games in Europe.
Speaker 4 (20:45):
Yeah, and let's play Sweet Caroline a lot.
Speaker 8 (20:49):
Yeah that we might need to.
Speaker 7 (20:50):
Uh, someone needs to be in charge of allowing us
the state, the scoreboard people not to play it too.
Speaker 4 (20:54):
Yeah, don't do that.
Speaker 5 (20:56):
It's funny.
Speaker 3 (20:56):
I was at the uh my wife and I went
to the opener when North Carolina played at Minnesota this year.
Oh yeah, and Minnesota was kicking a field goal to
win and the kid missed it and they put off
the fireworks, and I thought, but that's odd. They put
off fireworks even when they lose the game, and then
they suddenly the fireworks stopped. I think somebody realized that
(21:19):
they shot them off a little too.
Speaker 5 (21:20):
Soon, too soon, a little too soon. It happens sometimes,
Yes it does.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
Let's postgame scoreboard brought to you by the North Carolina
Education Lottery and Digital Instance. It's a whole new way
to win mobile games and loads of real cash prizes
registered to play Digital Instance today. Normally we would be
giving you the four o'clock scoreboard, but Mike was a
little early for that.
Speaker 8 (21:41):
Yeah, it's a little bit early for that. But these
are mostly midway or lower.
Speaker 7 (21:45):
Through the first quarter, New England a field goal over
Chicago three to nothing, Buffalo getting a twenty two yard
pick six from Tarad Johnson. Joe Flacco two interceptions in
that game already. Alrighty, yeah, Buffalo has a ten nothing lead.
They added a field goal Minnesota.
Speaker 5 (22:02):
Richinson hadn't quit on the team, then he might be
out there.
Speaker 7 (22:05):
Three nothing lead for Minnesota over Jacksonville, Denver at Kansas City.
Panthers will see them in two weeks after the bie
Wee Kansas City that is no score there also scoreless
San Francis, not San Francis. I'll get them in a second.
Atlanta at New Orleans. Falcons have the ball right now
with five forty seven to play. San Francisco just got
a Ricky Parasol touchdown, so they go ahead or.
Speaker 8 (22:26):
Do they call that?
Speaker 4 (22:28):
Yeah, but it looks like it looks like.
Speaker 7 (22:30):
It should stand, so if it does, it'll be seven nothing.
San Francisco at Tampa Bay and George pickens on a
sixteen yard touchdown from Russell Wilson. Pittsburgh has a seven
nothing lead over Washington. Tennessee has the LA Chargers. That's
the four to h five game. So for Alvius, I
can watch football after the normally we're working.
Speaker 3 (22:48):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (22:49):
New York Jets are at Arizona four to twenty five.
Dallas at Philadelphia that the Cowboys are just struggling. Of course,
Dak Prescott's season ending injury here in surgery. Detroit at Houston,
that's the Sunday night game. Miami at the L. A.
Rams is the eight to fifteen game on Monday Night.
Speaker 4 (23:05):
Always amazed Mike Tomlin always finds a way to win.
He does, he does, he does not at all. I'm like,
my goodness, how.
Speaker 8 (23:14):
Does won the Super Bowl?
Speaker 6 (23:16):
And he he bits one quarterback for another quarterback and
still it still works.
Speaker 5 (23:22):
Yeah, the work. Yeah, he's been a great coach.
Speaker 8 (23:26):
Yes, I know, he gets the accolades that he should
get him.
Speaker 7 (23:29):
He's a terrific he's he's won, in my opinion, one
of the top five coaches in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (23:33):
And in Pittsburgh they can playing because he's only won
one Super Bowl.
Speaker 8 (23:37):
It's hard, man, I know.
Speaker 5 (23:39):
I'm just saying, yeah, yeah, it's crazy. All right.
Speaker 3 (23:43):
Still ahead, we'll hear from the head coach. Also go
over some highlights from today's ball games. To stay with us,
you're listening to Panthers Football presented by Morris Jenkins.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
Back to the Panthers postgame show by Southern Star unofficial
bourbon of the Carolina Panthers celebrate this spirit up in Carolinas.
Speaker 3 (24:03):
He welcome back along with the Gene Robinson, Mike Pachico,
Brett McMillen here at Bank of America Stadium, and we're
about to head it back to Munich where Jim and
Aniche and Luke have all cut up with the head
coach celebrating win number two in a row.
Speaker 1 (24:20):
Back in Munich. We're not ready to leave quite yet.
Speaker 10 (24:23):
We got to talk with the coach, Dave Canalis after
this incredible overtime victory twenty to seventeen over the New
York Giants, and coach, I'm sure you.
Speaker 1 (24:32):
Feel some ways.
Speaker 10 (24:33):
You guys had to win the game twice once in regulation,
you thought you had it for a while there. In
overtime though, the big defensive play. Once again, let's talk
about the defense first. On a day like this, though,
Jewel comes up with two big takeaways for as fumbled
by Ashaan Robinson overtime. You had the big one right
before halftime with the Clowney tip and Xavier Woods with
the interception. How big were those moments.
Speaker 4 (24:52):
In the game.
Speaker 15 (24:53):
Oh, they were huge, right, And it's something that we
preach and talk about with our group in and it
all stems from just being on the same agent, being
in your in your in your correct position, and the calls,
playing your leverage and the plays come to you, you know,
and you're able to be stronger at the point of attack.
And the guys took advantage of that.
Speaker 4 (25:09):
You know.
Speaker 15 (25:09):
JD got his hands up on the early interception that
x Woods got right there gave us a chance to
get points before the half, and we didn't get that done.
You know, I think there was you know, if I
look back, I just kind of, you know, regret a
little bit that we weren't able to, you know, take
advantage of some of those turnovers and turn him into points.
But it just speaks to the finish of the group
all the way into overtime. You know, I got to
give Will Herger a little shout out. He said, Hey,
(25:30):
last time I was in Europe, we went to overtime
and got the game. We won the game on a
pick six on the very first play, and then all
of a sudden, you know, a couple of plays into it,
we get the fumble right there and we're sitting in
field goal range.
Speaker 4 (25:42):
So it was a it was a huge moment.
Speaker 9 (25:44):
For us, Dave and as here, given Eddie Pinero's background
and his affinity for soccer on this field, for him
to kick a game winner and overtime, what does that mean?
Speaker 15 (25:55):
That's pretty special, you know, and I think it just
speaks to the consistency of the guy. And you know,
just looking at him, he just kind of went through
his routine like he normally would. And that's what we preach.
We talk about guys bigger the moment, the smaller the focus.
You know, you just go through your checks and balances,
make sure you're right, and then you go and execute.
Speaker 9 (26:11):
And he did that two weeks in a row. Coach,
we saw finish on display. What is that telling you
about where this team is headed.
Speaker 15 (26:18):
That's something that I hope that we can lean, you know,
hang our hat on. And it's it's about all these games,
you know, games where the score was out of hand,
and we just continue to play hard and continue to
finish because it's a pride thing. It's about the guys
playing for each other. This is what we worked for
all week. Let's finish, finish the way we want to finish.
And the guys were able to do that. And I
got to take my hat off to the giants because
there was no quit in that group today. You know,
(26:40):
they kept coming at us and offensively, defensively, making it
hard on us, you know, and sending it all the
way to overtime, making us have to get the win.
Speaker 1 (26:46):
There, Coach, what's up at Sluke?
Speaker 14 (26:48):
And I just wanted to ask you, what is what
is a game like this, in an atmosphere like this
do for the team and just moving forward, There's gonna
be more big moments, and I feel like this is
probably the biggest moment that a lot of the guys
have played and just kind of what does this help
with moving forward?
Speaker 15 (27:03):
Gosh, Luke, you know, it was such a great couple
of days, you know, the challenges of the travel, but
all of us being together at the hotel, guys going out,
having lunch together, having dinners together, talking, you know, just
becoming a team.
Speaker 13 (27:16):
It was a gift.
Speaker 15 (27:16):
You know, it was a gift as we've been playing,
you know, NonStop Sundays, you know, just this whole week
for us to you know, come all the way to
Germany and really have our best Friday and Saturday practices
from a focused standpoint of communication. Like, it's immense things
about our process, you know. So I was really proud
of the guys getting that done and everybody who was
involved with planning.
Speaker 10 (27:34):
It makes the flight great. Enjoy a little bit of
downtime during the bye week as well.
Speaker 1 (27:39):
Coach. We appreciate your type.
Speaker 10 (27:40):
Thank you all right, thanks guys, Coach Dave Canalos, there's
a Panthers win in Germany.
Speaker 1 (27:45):
Back to Charlotte now with Brett, Mike and Eugene.
Speaker 3 (27:48):
All right, I think thanks Jim, appreciated thoughts and what
the coach had to say.
Speaker 6 (27:51):
You know, you can hear the excitement in his voice,
and you can you can tell that they've been putting
in a lot of work, and some of the work
that they've been putting on behind the scenes has paid
some dividend. And you know he's talking about finishing, finishing.
We saw that last week too with the with the sack,
with Jadamian, Clowney and Harris, and then we say it
again this week here with Robinson and uh And and
(28:11):
Joel so I the defense coming up and finishing, really
rely strong, really bowse well as you move forward.
Speaker 7 (28:18):
And I think you know you might you know, we're
getting to the point of the season where you might
start people talking about, oh, the first round draft pick
or you know, get a number two pick three pick
of the draft. Right now, I don't think you worry
about the draft. I mean, I think you're worrying about
playing better, racking up stacking up wins, even if you
still don't have a great record, Because what is the
(28:38):
best way to cement the message he's trying to instill
in these guys.
Speaker 4 (28:42):
It's winning games, absolutely, and don't forget too.
Speaker 6 (28:45):
This has been a rookie class that's been putting in
some major work right now. You know, from Legett to
Cocher to Sanders, there's a lot.
Speaker 5 (28:54):
Of guys walking cokers a free agency.
Speaker 4 (28:55):
Yeah, there's a lot.
Speaker 6 (28:56):
Of guys who's been putting in some some really good work.
That's you know, when you talk about getting some of
your your Derek Brown's back and your Shaq Thompson's back,
when you talk about some of those players who are
not playing right now, and that's the hand that you've
been dealt, and your guys have been stepping up uh
in the midst of that too. I think it bowls well.
So to your point, who's tarting what the draft? You
(29:17):
continue to develop the guys that you have and let
them eat, let them play as much as they can
because football will educate you and get you right for
playing football.
Speaker 7 (29:26):
And you can be sending the right message. But if
you're not winning games, it's it doesn't have the same effect.
Speaker 3 (29:32):
That's right, It doesn't well, And the fact is, Gene,
you've been there. Nobody in that locker room cares what
draft pick the pants have.
Speaker 6 (29:40):
That absolutely right. Nobody cares about that that one bat.
That's something that fans may be concerned about, Vegas may
be concerned about all that stuff, But in the locker room, no,
you're talking about who's out there with me?
Speaker 4 (29:53):
What guys are out there with me?
Speaker 6 (29:55):
Want I'm just getting back, you know, wanted to be
out there and then seeing how how he just how
he played and played extremely well. You know, we talked
about this last couple of weeks that these two games
that we had with the Saints and then the Jacks
were going to be games that a game that we
could win.
Speaker 4 (30:12):
And it's come to fruition.
Speaker 6 (30:15):
And I got to take my hat off to coach
Canalis because you know, if you don't win those games,
what do you say about the Carolina Panthers then, right,
you know.
Speaker 8 (30:24):
And you're trying to build a culture of winning, and
winning gets winning, it does.
Speaker 6 (30:28):
And so what we saw today, I mean, they finished,
they went into overtime and they finished, and they finished
in style. Defense came up with a play and everybody
on that defensive sideline is saying this, hey man, we
got to get a stop. We need to stop, or
we got to get the ball back. That's what they're saying.
And lo and behold they got the ball back.
Speaker 7 (30:45):
And it's the first time in two years. And it
was December November twenty seventh and December eleventh that the
Panthers have won back to back games. That beat Denver
here and then they went and beat Seattle.
Speaker 1 (30:56):
On the road.
Speaker 5 (30:57):
So I'm talking about that's a while years.
Speaker 3 (31:00):
Yeah, Yeah, had this injury report brought to you by
a Trim Health. You deserve to live your best life
and Atrim Health is here to help. Miles Sanders went
out with an ankle injury, did not return. Matter of fact,
they carted him off the field. Have not heard an
update on him. And then Ian Thomas left with a
calf injury early in the game and he did not return.
(31:20):
Gidavian Clowney went out his knee was hurting him. They
were keeping it heated. He did return to the game.
So these are some things we'll have to keep an
eye on and the ear out for over the next
two weeks.
Speaker 8 (31:34):
Remember the flight home, long flight.
Speaker 6 (31:39):
Yeah, and Sanders got a lot of love from the
Carolina Panthers his teammates pat on the shoulder. But I
saw Brian Burns also go over there too and pat
him on the shoulder, just to give us his condolencens
And that's the brotherhood of football.
Speaker 4 (31:53):
When somebody gets hurt, it affects everybody out there.
Speaker 3 (31:56):
Sure, yep, absolutely, So we'll see. Yeah, you talk about
that long flow at home, things tend to swill up.
Speaker 4 (32:02):
Yes they do.
Speaker 7 (32:02):
That's what I was Yeah, that's what I was getting
at ice in elevation, Ice in elevation.
Speaker 5 (32:07):
Well, they'll be elevated. They'll be like very elevated, very
ice in elevation.
Speaker 3 (32:13):
Hey, well we come back, we'll have some highlights from
today's ball games. So stay with us on the Carolina
Panthers Radio network. If you're going to Germany, why not
work a little extra overtime?
Speaker 5 (32:25):
Huh?
Speaker 3 (32:25):
Why just go there and play sixty minutes? Why not
play like sixty three. It's exactly what the Panthers did today.
What a little extra time one at twenty to seventeen
over the New York Giants, but not too much time.
Speaker 5 (32:35):
Not too much time.
Speaker 4 (32:36):
New York Football Giants.
Speaker 3 (32:37):
Football Giants helped them out by making it pretty quick
because they won the toss, decided to take the ball
first and then gave it away really fast. So that
worked out for the Panthers as they went at twenty
to seventeen over the New York Football Giants. This Panthers
post game show, presented by Southern Star and official Bourbon
of the Carolina Panthers, celebrate the spirit of the Carolina's
(32:58):
long with Eugene Robinson, Mike Brett McMillan. We're glad to
have you with us. Let's go through some of the
highlights of this game. Panthers got on the board first
after stopping the Giants. Giants got one long play early
in this game thanks to a pass interference call, and
then the Panthers pretty mu stopped them three and out.
Then the Panthers went on a really nice drive, some
(33:19):
long runs from Chewba Hubbard, a couple of twenty six
yarders set up for Bryce Young to do. Jatavian Sanders
touchdown of five yards gave them a seven to nothing lead.
They added an Eddie Pinero fifty three yard field goal
to make it ten to nothing. At the beginning of
the second quarter, Giants were driving got deep into Panthers'
(33:40):
territory had a second and twelve at the twenty yard
line where the Panthers defense stepped up.
Speaker 9 (33:51):
Third down and what singletary in and running back. The
snap comes back to Jones on the backside and down
he goes.
Speaker 13 (34:05):
Did the ball come out?
Speaker 2 (34:07):
No?
Speaker 9 (34:07):
He is down at the forty one yard line.
Speaker 13 (34:10):
DJ wantum first sack is a Panther.
Speaker 3 (34:15):
Okay, that was DJ Watam's sack as a Panther. Let's
try number two windle and see if that is the
uh if we could try that and to see if
that is the interception by Xavier Woods, which was the
first turnover of the ball game.
Speaker 5 (34:28):
Let me know when you're ready.
Speaker 3 (34:29):
We'll take a listen to that as that was the
play that really stopped the Giants in that try. Let's
try that one.
Speaker 13 (34:36):
Trips to the left. Tracy is the running back. Here's
the staff fake to Tracy.
Speaker 9 (34:43):
Jones's passed deflected into the air and intercepted by Carolina.
Speaker 5 (34:48):
And that was it.
Speaker 3 (34:49):
So that stopped the Giant scoring threat. The guide into
the red zone, guys, and that is huge when you can,
like we talked about earlier opportunity opportunity turn and that
was a prevention turnover, and.
Speaker 6 (35:03):
It was a concervative effort too, because the ball was tipped.
The ball was tipped by the defensive line getting pressure
on the quarterback, getting a hand in his face, tipping
the ball, and then that ball went right directly to
Exambia was he didn't have to do anything special, He
didn't even have to jump up to catch the ball.
Speaker 4 (35:20):
He just had to be there in the area and
it went to him.
Speaker 6 (35:23):
So that was a prevention player, as you said, But
we got to give that defensive line credit.
Speaker 7 (35:28):
It tipped that ball, and I was also added it
was almost like a prevention play and a half because
even though the Panthers didn't get points on it, they
had about a seven or eight play drive. The Giants
got the ball back at the nine yard line with
like barely any time left. Well they weren't, so not
only did they stop points, but then on the back
on both ends of that, the Giants weren't able to
(35:48):
get any points.
Speaker 3 (35:49):
Yeah, because the Giants took a knee, right, they did
that and knowing the Giants were going to get the
ball to start the second half.
Speaker 8 (35:55):
Yeah, that's why I mean it's almost maybe like two then.
Speaker 4 (35:57):
Yeah, you're right.
Speaker 5 (35:59):
That was a huge place, huge play.
Speaker 3 (36:00):
Well, the Giants did get the ball to start the
second half, went on a long drive and scored a touchdown,
but then the Panthers. I thought it was crucial to
the Panthers responded because that made it ten to seven.
At that point, I felt like the Panthers' offense really
needed to come out. They got a touchdown, but it
was called back on a leo formation and then a
fall start, So now instead of having a touchdown on
(36:21):
the board, they're now at the third at the eighteen
yard line with a second and eleven. They got a
bunch of it back, got down to the one yards
and handed it off to the Bell cow.
Speaker 9 (36:34):
Leak, getting Cocher now motion tight to the line, Hubbard
to single back.
Speaker 13 (36:38):
Bryce crouches under center. Here's the snap.
Speaker 9 (36:42):
Hand off Hubbard, straight ahead touchdown suba.
Speaker 5 (36:46):
They have Cuba Hubbard.
Speaker 3 (36:47):
He was the belcow Today workhorse career high today one
hundred and fifty three yards, and he is our hardest
working player. The game presented by sun Belt Rentals, the
official original equipment partner of the Carolina Pants. There's had
a couple of twenty six yard runs, a twenty five yard.
Speaker 5 (37:03):
Er average five and a half yards of carry.
Speaker 6 (37:05):
You know, Anie said he went straight ahead, but that
doesn't tell the story because that was a whole bunch
of people in that straight ahead and he had to
kind of weave his way through there meticulously to go
ahead and pick up that touchdown.
Speaker 4 (37:17):
And he did a great job.
Speaker 6 (37:19):
I love his vision and I love his decisiveness when
he decided to put his foot in the ground.
Speaker 7 (37:23):
It was like the first touchdown that ended up in
a pass, But he really was the bell call is
no doubt, but Davian Sanders had that big It was
about a sixteen yard catch with one of the few
passes on that drive that helped set up depth.
Speaker 6 (37:36):
Set up that first Yeah, it was because you got
first and going now you got a new set of
downs with only three yards out.
Speaker 3 (37:43):
That's great, all right, Well the Panthers, let the Patriots
or the patriotscher the Giants come back in. Make it
seventeen fourteen. And then it looked like disaster was looming
as Cuba Hubbard caught a pass looked like he'd been
horse collared. Yes it didn't turn out that he had been.
It was grabbed the shoulder, but pulled him straight backward.
(38:05):
He lost a fumble, and now all of a sudden,
the Giants are in money territory at the twenty two
yard line, down a field goal, at least in field
goal territory. But once again, with a third and seven
at the eight, the Panthers defense struck again.
Speaker 9 (38:24):
Twins to the right, Jones of the shotgun, Neighbors out
to the left, matched up with JC Horn, Jones takes
the staff. Here's the pressure, here's the throw. I paid
off flat and joseph' the sps it. The head's taken away.
Speaker 5 (38:40):
What a play And so that preserved the Panthers lead.
Speaker 3 (38:44):
They were able to keep the ball for a little while,
but eventually the Giants were able to get it, and
with five seconds to go, they tied the game on
a forty two yard field goal from Graham Goodo. Giants
get the ball to start overtime. First play of over
time things turned to the Panthers favor.
Speaker 9 (39:06):
Elak Neighbors wide to the right, Robinson slot left, Hyatt
wide left, Jones out of the shotgun. On the delay,
Tracy hitting the backfield, lost down.
Speaker 1 (39:18):
The Panthers say they haven't had they do, and.
Speaker 16 (39:23):
They do absolutely Yeah about that twenty three yard line
RD A couple of plays to just kind of set
up Eddie Panierro where he wanted two thirty six yard
field goal for Paniero and the Panthers win the ball
game twenty to seventeen.
Speaker 3 (39:38):
So final score looks great. Panthers defense stood up a
couple of times in an outstanding day for Cuba.
Speaker 12 (39:45):
Hover.
Speaker 6 (39:46):
Yeah, once again, I've been a big Cuba Hubber fan,
made no bones about it. I think he's been one
of the super duper stars on this team. Offensively, he's
run the ball, and as I said on Monday night,
when I get a chance to talk to coach, I'm like,
well we see more toop of Hubbard.
Speaker 4 (40:03):
We we see more tooop of Hubbard. I mean, he's the
ticket man.
Speaker 6 (40:06):
He's he's that guy when you're letting, he's gonna get
that extra hard yards and he's he's going to put
that work into and he doesn't he doesn't like what
his with his lust booking and his hard hat coming
to working and putting to work. And I just like
to I love the way he plays so uh too.
But man, he's my guy.
Speaker 5 (40:25):
You know why he's here, you know, who wanted him here?
Speaker 3 (40:27):
Oh yeah, rules wife, she said he killed you in
college and didn't get that guy here.
Speaker 7 (40:34):
But you know what this was. What was great about
this game was complimentary football. There's so many guys that
can walk away from this game and feel good about things.
Remember last week in the fifth quarter, Eugene, we said,
you know, is this a game that you can last
week's is that a game you can build off of?
Now you got two games back to back where a
lot of guys contributed. Things are starting to roll a
(40:55):
little bit. Now, big test after the BIE week with
Kansas City. But I mean now you're at least you
can start to feel good about yourself as a team
after got of geting pounded in the first half of
the season.
Speaker 6 (41:04):
You know, and I've been asking, hey, run the ball.
I think running the ball has always been the secret
successful the Carolina Panthers always. I think our offensive line
that I think they do a great job of run blocking.
And so I'm going to hit my wagon to sixty
percent run, sixty five percent run and then use Bryce
(41:24):
Sparely to throw that rock. And we've seen him what
he's able to do to manage that game, and I
want to see that ball really spread out across the
field to everyone, not such where it becomes I got
a super duper receiver that the ball's always going to
that Takakio. The ball's being distributed across the field, and
that's really really good. And that means Bryce is seeing
(41:46):
the field.
Speaker 7 (41:47):
And this isn't a great passing team in the Giants,
but I feel like this was one of the better
games we've seen from the defense. And I think having dj
wantamback is obviously a huge key that. But even j
Davian Clowney seem you know, seems to be kind of
better and getting more comfortable in this defense.
Speaker 6 (42:01):
And I thought our defense did a great job of
securing the edges so that it wasn't like, you know,
getting outside and now you have to everybody has to
chase the play and chase and change the angles.
Speaker 4 (42:12):
I thought we did good.
Speaker 6 (42:13):
Now, they gave up some yards Russian, no doubt about
that they did. However, when you get the sacks and
you add that with the the interceptions, you add that
with the fumble, that one sixty seven yards does not
seem like one hundred and sixty seven yards. It doesn't
at all. You go hoo, they had that many yards? Well,
who knew, you know, because it doesn't feel that way.
Speaker 3 (42:33):
Yeah, when we come back, when we get the final
thoughts from the guys in Munich, also gets you updated
on the latest scores from around the National Football League
on the one o'clock games. So stay with us, you're
listening to Panthers football percentage by Morris Jenkins.
Speaker 2 (42:46):
Back to Bred McMillan with more of the Panthers postgame
show preseemly by Southern Star un official bourbon of the
Carolina Panthers celebrate the spirit of the Carolinas.
Speaker 3 (43:01):
Hell, welcome back, Panthers winning overtime twenty to seventeen over
the New York Giants. Panthers now three wins on this season,
three and seven on the year. Let's go back to
Munich to get the final thoughts from Jim Anice she luke.
Speaker 10 (43:17):
All right from Munich. Happy Panthers fan base. We got
to hear Sweet Caroline twice. Heck, we heard Country Roads
take me home a couple times tonight. But it was interesting,
eclectic crowd here in Germany, and they had a great time.
Speaker 1 (43:32):
The Panthers were faithful that made the trip.
Speaker 10 (43:33):
Over here certainly worth their while to win an overtime
twenty to seventeen. Eddie Panero with the thirty six yard
field goal set up by the defense, forcing a fumble
on the first play of overtime, Ashawn Robinson forcing it,
Josie Jewel recovering it. Jewel two big takeaways one and
the fourth one in overtime, and part of three takeaways
by the Panthers defense Overall, offensively a niche Chuba Hubbard
(43:56):
one hundred and fifty three yards rushing with a touchdown
the week that he signs his big contract extension. A
lot of heroes, a lot of big moments in this game,
but you feel something coming together now with these back
to back wins, fighting through adversity to get this one.
Speaker 9 (44:09):
Yeah, listen, I think we all know there's still a
ways to go, but we knew year one that Dave
Canalis and this new regime wanted to put a foundational
layer in place. Doesn't happen overnight, and there's been adversity.
Bryce Young benched after two games. You had the high
of the Vegas win. You never really were able to
build off that, but you do just sense a change.
Speaker 13 (44:33):
There's a different feeling.
Speaker 9 (44:34):
You're going into the bye week having won two straight games,
and I get it, it's the Saints, it's the Giants.
Not everybody is gonna I'll throw you a parade for that.
But this franchise needed to stack wins. And we're starting
to see, as we've talked about the last few weeks,
Jim Young players stepping up.
Speaker 13 (44:51):
Today, we saw a defense get healthy.
Speaker 9 (44:53):
DJ Wantam, impact player Josie Jewell, made some big plays
j C. Horn, Mike A'shawn Robinson, post trade deadline guys
now have their feats rooted here and you're just sensing
this belief. And Eddie Pinero at the end of the
game wins the game. You know, soccer kid growing up
(45:19):
where Bayern Munich plays, that's got to be a lifetime
moment for him, one.
Speaker 13 (45:24):
He'll always cherish.
Speaker 9 (45:25):
But Luke, there's just a different feeling about this team
going into the second half of the year.
Speaker 14 (45:31):
Yeah, I think you naded a niche post tread deadline.
This is our team. This is our team moving forward.
So hey, on the defensive side of the ball, like
you said, starting to get healthy. DJ Wanam, Josie Jewel
had missed a couple of games. Now he's back, made
the huge plays in the game today. Trevid Wallace is
doing a great job. Looks like we got a guy
and Mike Jackson that can really play. What we're gonna
do at nickel Oh, Dan Jackson's healthy, we'll put him
(45:53):
back in there. Genevian clown, he's does a really good
job of setting firm edges. Creates a run over with
the Xavier Woods offensive side of the ball. Cuba has
really just become the bell cow and the heartbeat of
this offense with his toughness and his grit. The offensive
line's playing really well. You look at what we're doing
with guys banged up. Obviously, Corbett goes down, Kate May
(46:15):
steps in, plays really well. It's it's just a good
it's just a good win for our team. Brady Christiansen
goes center to sides outside plays left tackle. You see
Cocher and Xavier. Look at David Moore slips in there.
Jatavian Sanders caught us first touchdown pass. It's just the
guys that we need to step up are starting to
step up, and it's it's really refreshing to see.
Speaker 1 (46:36):
All right, we'll take it and we'll bring it home.
How about that?
Speaker 10 (46:39):
All the way from Munich, Germany, as the Panthers get
their third victory of the season, topping last year's win
total and number of chances to add on to it
as the season goes on. All right, thanks to a niche,
thanks to Luke, as we said it, back to Charlotte
now with Mike, Brett and Eugene.
Speaker 3 (46:55):
All right, thanks a lot, safe travel, guys, look forward
to having you back here on this side of the pond.
Let's take on more troff around the league, brought to
you by the Hanted Dealers of the Carolina Is Mike,
what have you got going on at the ONCK games?
Speaker 13 (47:05):
All right?
Speaker 7 (47:06):
But these games all in the second quarter, Indianapolis says,
come back now. It's ten to ten at home against Buffalo.
Joe Flacco two interceptions already in that game, but he
also has thrown a touchdown bass he got booted on
the second, he got put on the second one. Well,
actually the second one was the pick six, and then
people realized that that was the second interception of the game.
(47:26):
Boberts came out for that one. Jacksonville has a seven
to three lead at home against Minnesota, bo Nicks with
a short touchdown pass. They have a four point lead,
seven to three lead over Kansas City. On the road,
New Orleans has opened up a ten to nothing lead
at home against Atlanta. San Francisco, we talked about the
Rickey Pearsall a touchdown, his first career touchdown that did
(47:47):
stand and comes seventy one days after he was shot.
Member he was the mister player that was shot in
San Francisco. Uh, But they have a ten to nothing
lead over Tampa Bay right now. Christian McCaffrey, back from injury,
has twenty one year yards on seven carries in that
game and Pittsburgh has gone ahead fourteen to seven. That
game was tied and uh Russell Wilson with a second
(48:10):
touchdown pass in that game. He has thrown for forty
eight yards seven of twelve passing and he has one
of Brett's favorite numbers of one oh six point nine
quarterback rating.
Speaker 5 (48:21):
So far there.
Speaker 3 (48:23):
Hey, for all the people that drafted Christo McCaffrey first
to their fantasy draft, is there enough time for them
to get back in the playoff race?
Speaker 13 (48:30):
Oh?
Speaker 7 (48:30):
You have to take so, especially depending on your fantasy league.
If you have if you have an ir that you
can stash him and get other players and kind of
stay adrift.
Speaker 8 (48:39):
I think that's a possibility.
Speaker 3 (48:41):
Yeah, I mean a lot of people have been struggling this. Yeah,
no drafted him first.
Speaker 7 (48:48):
But all you have to do, I think, is if
you could just stay afloat because Christian McCaffrey down the stretch,
he's gonna win you a lot of games.
Speaker 6 (48:57):
And even when we're watching him here, he looks really
really good. I mean he looks like that Christan diccaffrey
O making those nice little cuts, accelerating, running people over.
Speaker 4 (49:06):
I like the way he looks already.
Speaker 3 (49:08):
Yeah, well, we know what kind of talent he is.
You know, that's right, no doubt about it. When will
come back, we will have our three and outs and
then we will head out. You're listening to Panthers Football
precented by Morris Jenkins.
Speaker 2 (49:20):
The Panthers postgame show continues presee me by Southern Star
unofficial bourbon of the Carolina Panthers celebrate the spirit of
the Carolinas.
Speaker 3 (49:32):
Now, before we get your three and outs for today
is twenty seventeen Panthers. When let's pause to the second
for station gentification on the Carolina Panthers Radio Network.
Speaker 13 (49:42):
All right, we.
Speaker 3 (49:42):
Welcome back to the Panthers postgame show, presented by Southern
Star and official bourbon of the Carolina Panthers, celebrate the
spirit of the Carolinas. Time for our three and outs
now and Mike Pachico, won't you start us off?
Speaker 5 (49:53):
All right?
Speaker 7 (49:53):
Well, I think it was good to see complimentary football
come back and play here where you had both sides
of the ball, special teams, everybody was making plays. This
to me felt like a Panthers football game. They were
getting pressure, they were forcing turnovers and then running the ball.
Speaker 8 (50:08):
You know, one hundred yard scorer. I mean, how yard rusher.
Speaker 7 (50:11):
One hundred yard scorers would be good too, but one
hundred yard rusher, and I think the emergence of Bryce Young,
I think that time. I mean we've said this last
week as well, but just having that time to sit
and watch and maybe regroup, I think that was just
what the doctor ordered because I think he continues to
show progress and that's important.
Speaker 6 (50:30):
You know, I don't know what the percentages are to
run the pass, but if I'm the Carolina Panthers, I'm
running a rock and I'm gonna hitch my hitch my
wagon to Cuba.
Speaker 4 (50:39):
He runs the ball just too effectively.
Speaker 6 (50:42):
I like, even when he missed the screen, I still
like to play call because they were trying to get
him the ball because he's one of the most productive
players you have on that team Outllow like a Christian McCaffrey.
So I hope coach Canalis takes this blueprint of like,
we ran the ball and I didn't ask Bryce to
do too much. I didn't ask him to too much.
(51:03):
He did just what I needed him to do, which
is make those completions and move the chains, and we
were able to do that. So from that standpoint, and
get out of trouble sometimes and use your legs to
get out of trouble. And from that standpoint, I hope
that is the recipe moving forward. And defensively, I think
we're getting better in the secondary because I think those
(51:25):
sacks that we had, even the sacks that we have,
you know, one, you got a defensive back coming off
the edge and the lineman gets the sack there. But
also you have good coverage down the field, and I
thought we had really good pass coverage down the field
that bowls well to you know, if you're gonna have sacks.
Speaker 4 (51:44):
It's rush plush coverage.
Speaker 6 (51:45):
You got to be able to hold up in the
back end and our secondary guess what, they hold it
up in the back end.
Speaker 8 (51:50):
Fifty five percent of their plays were a run places.
Speaker 4 (51:52):
Well see there you go.
Speaker 3 (51:53):
That's good and that ties in with my first one
is to keep playing to your strengths. And the Panthers
strengths are the running game and have been for the
last couple of years.
Speaker 5 (52:02):
Keep playing to this drinks.
Speaker 3 (52:03):
I sincond one is you never know who's gonna step
up or who's going to emerge. You think back to
the beginning of this season. Who knew the name dj Wantum? Yeah,
who knew Jatavian Sanders? Who knew Ashan Robinson? And these
are some of the biggest stars today. And I think
these are the guys you gotta be looking at down
the road that are going to help this team as
(52:25):
this team continues to grow under Dave Canalis and bring
the right culture, the culture he's looking for in this
locker room.
Speaker 4 (52:32):
And let me just say this special Teams.
Speaker 6 (52:34):
Why I know that we focused on Pinero and you
know that that was great, absolutely, but Hecker did a
great job of getting the ball out of trouble and
putting what Marcette putting him on like the twenty one
yard line when we were almost backed up.
Speaker 4 (52:50):
I mean that was a long, long put and.
Speaker 6 (52:52):
You you need to count on that type of stuff
is now you're not dealing with a short field, You're
dealing with a longer field twenty one. And thought that
he played, did his job special teams wise to go ahead,
and and the coverage as well too to get that
ball out of trouble.
Speaker 4 (53:07):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (53:08):
And my final one is enjoy the week off. It's
a great wed to back off, back to back wins.
The should be a good feeling. No better way to
go in.
Speaker 5 (53:17):
To a week off.
Speaker 3 (53:18):
Speaking of which, the next week is a bye week
for the Panthers, So the next act will be on
the twenty fourth, two weeks from today at Bank of
America Stadium, and.
Speaker 5 (53:27):
The currently unbeaten Kansas City Chiefs will be in town.
Speaker 3 (53:31):
The stadium show starts at ten o'clock on the Fox,
followed by countdown to kick off at noon on the Network,
kickout just after one o'clock, and then the Panthers postgame
show will begin around four. Once again, the final Today
