Speaker 1 (00:03):
Now to Mike Pachico with the Panthers postgame show preseming
by Southern Star unofficial Bourbon of the Carolina Panthers celebrate
the spirit of the Carolinas.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Well tough loss here at Bank of America Stadium. Kind
of a close but no cigar type of game. It
was really a good contest for most of the three
quarters and then the fourth quarter the Atlanta Falcons just
pulling away, making some big plays. You got a big interception,
Jon Robinson and Trey Alzire just almost well no, they

(00:42):
did run for exactly between the two of them two
hundred yards. This is the Southern Star Bourbon postgame show.
I am Mike Pachico, Eugene Robinson, Sharon Thorsland joining us aside.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
Happy to be here. It's been a while.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
Well I hate to bring back, you know, old cliches,
but man, this game was just it was missed opportunities
and Eugenie, it just didn't seem to be enough push
up front from the defense. It seemed like Kirk Cousins
had time to bake some bread and throw a touchdown
passes and hand the ball off all day.

Speaker 4 (01:13):
You know.

Speaker 5 (01:13):
Thorn and I when we were talking as I think
one of the problems I see is defensively, Yeah, I
mean I think we can generate some office. I mean
that seems obvious the way two behubbed runs. It's obvious
that we can generate office. But what's also obvious is
that we are very difficult for us to stop people.

Speaker 4 (01:32):
The edges are not really controlled.

Speaker 5 (01:34):
That gap thing that we need to have intact is
not And you said run for two hundred and five yards.
They ran the ball off the falcons brilliantly, and they
could have even wrapped up even more yards and then
they got tremendous push. You will see that defensive line
get pushed back three four yards. That you got linebackers

(01:55):
and the secondary making those tackles. And whenever that's happening,
that means you're losing that ground game. And I thought
that game was won by Atlanta on the ground, specifically
no if ads and butts, because they could have kept
the ball on the ground and we ran the ball
well on the ground. I'm like, just running, coach, just
keep running the ball, because we had a groove going on.
And I think when we stopped running the ball, that's

(02:17):
when things started to maybe go a little bit of rye.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
Yeah, I agree.

Speaker 6 (02:21):
I mean Cuba has just been rolling roll a couple
of weeks, just rolling, and it's they get that offense
just seems to be clicking when they're doing that. But
I mean, like you said, the first half, Mic, they
played extremely well of the offense even into the third quarter,
and then the wheels just fell off with some some
crucial penalties. We had a lot of penalties that I
was sort of at today too. But one thing that
I did like that I saw was our our offensive

(02:43):
line without Taylor Mowten, without Austin Corbett. They did a
great job because you didn't hear anybody's name too much.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
On the offense.

Speaker 6 (02:50):
There was no sex yeah, yeah, Brady Christensen, Josh Nyman
came right in. Yeah, no sacks allowed, which was outstanding,
and they were able to pave the way for that
run game with Cuba. So to them, the offensive line
seems to be hopefully going to keep up that great
play that they've had all season. But yeah, the defense
is struggling right now.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
That was obvious.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
And this was a huge game because not only you know,
obviously it's an NFL game, but it's also a divisional
game and up three to zero in the division. They
haven't won the division since twenty sixteen when they were
eleven and five that year, and everybody will remember a
super Bowl fifty one. They should have probably won the
super Bowl twenty eight to three. But you know something, Eugen,

(03:29):
it looked like going into the fourth quarter of that
maybe with Chuba Hubbard running, it looked like they were
gonna wear down a little bit. But it's and I
know this is coach talk sometimes, but it seems like
the Falcons made just that the big plays when they
needed to come up with them, they kind of went
Atlanta's way and not the Panthers.

Speaker 5 (03:43):
Absolutely, because that interception when you have Andy Dalton rolls
out to the right hand side almost like a modified bootleg,
and you have Ian Thomas running from one side from
the left all the way to the right.

Speaker 4 (03:55):
Now the quarter I think Terrell he was on.

Speaker 5 (03:59):
The outside and he was just following the play and
then he realized that, oh wow, it looks like I
is going to be a target there. He easily, I
mean easily caught up with them and passed them, catches
the interception and Ian Thomas actually falls down. I really
believe this isn't even as you're seeing that in real time,

(04:19):
I'm like, oh, he's not even making a play to
make it. What's say, because he's he's almost out of
the build. And I'm like, hey, why didn't we just
run the ball? And I know that second guessing the coach.

Speaker 4 (04:29):
I get it. And I'm not trying to second guess
the coach.

Speaker 5 (04:31):
But when you're running the ball so effectively, and Tuba
was running, he has a hot hand, guess what, well,
I'm gonna go ahead and give you the rock again
until they say they stop it, you know, And so
I understand what coach is doing. You want to go
ahead and have you know, thirty forty, forty sixty percent,
you got sixty percent run then forty percent pass.

Speaker 4 (04:49):
I totally get it.

Speaker 5 (04:50):
If that was costly that interception right then, when you
saw Andy Dalton's face, you know, he's like, man, we
let one go because that that drive was almost going
to let.

Speaker 4 (05:00):
Them get back in the game.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
We were down by eight, no doubt, no doubt, no
doubt about it.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
Panthers score there, and it's it's different.

Speaker 6 (05:06):
Yeah, And it's earlier in the game. He targeted Ian too,
and there's I think, you know, this was Ian's first
game back. I know he's been out the whole time.
He hasn't had any time to really connect with Andy Dalton.
You could almost see that they didn't really have a
lot of chemistry and communication there. And so after that
first drop when he missed him in the first time
and then that interception was key, it didn't seem like Ian.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
Was even like paying attention. Yeah, pay attention. He wasn't
like ready for it. He wasn't. Yeah, So I wonder
if that if that played a role in this too.

Speaker 7 (05:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
Andy Dalton finished his twenty six of thirty eight two
hundred and twenty one yards, two touchdown passes good, two
interceptions not so good.

Speaker 5 (05:38):
And quickly I made an observation there was a number
of balls that were throwing inside and behind by Andy Dalton,
and I was just saying, as a defici back and
we're like, you know, you had to watch out because
that easily can get picked off by a deficile back
because the ball's not thrown on the front side. Well
typically you would see when you're leading the receiver, and

(06:00):
it hadn't been that way, And I'm like, wow, I
know he's kind of escaping a bullet right now and
been caught up with and Sharon.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
It's kind of like in baseball when the opposing team
is watching the pitcher and seeing what his throws are like.
But you know, cornerbacks and linebackers need to be kind
of do the same same thing with the opposing quarterback
because sometimes sometimes maybe you tip your throw, sometimes maybe
you throw them behind guys.

Speaker 6 (06:19):
So, oh yeah, absolutely, it certainly seemed like we saw
that today and I'm sure they have they have a
lot of film that they've watched. I'm sure Andy don
two has been around the league a long time. This
was the he he was four and zer against them
coming into coming into this game, so I'm sure they were.
They were definitely, Yeah, so they could see those tendencies
and as Eugene said, that caught up with them light
in the game there with that with that.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
Pick, yeah, it's to go back a couple of weeks
to our our Dutch boy. It just seems like it's
whack a mole, right, I mean, yeah, it is. Things
kind of get steady. I mean, Andy's a professional quarterback
and he's playing like a professional quarterback, and there's still
just something missing, and it's probably more more so on
the defensive side.

Speaker 6 (06:58):
Yeah, and you know, they always say an excuse, but
my gosh, when you look at this defense and how
many guys are missing from this defense, and you've got
a rookie starting there at the you know, in the
middle linebacker spot in place of Shaq Thompson and Josie
Jewel and you know, Claude and Cheryl is there, and
you've got so many guys who are injured in the
back end too, and people forget you know, Jordan Fuller
is still out. Dane Jackson has even stet foot on

(07:21):
the field yet for us who was brought in to
replace Dante Jackson, so you know, and then of course
Shaq and I mean Derek Brown up front, and you've
just had so many guys. Those are key guys too,
not just you know whoever, I mean, these are key
guys on this defense. And when you've got a rookie
and they're calling the defense too, there's just some communication.
It's gonna it's gonna take a while. That they've been

(07:42):
talking about that for the past two weeks. The communication
is so key between him and the back end and
everybody and so you know it's you. You have to
take that into account a little bit, I think when
you're talking about this defense and the struggles they're having.

Speaker 3 (07:53):
But it's rough to watch.

Speaker 4 (07:55):
You know.

Speaker 5 (07:55):
But I'm not gonna let him off the hoot too
much because every player at this level we know about
taking care of the edge, BCR bootleg container reverse. We
we've heard it so many times, like, look, force that
ball back to your guy, force it back to your help.
If you don't take your the edge, that means you're
spilling the play. And you wanted to go outside where

(08:15):
the linebacker safety's gonna go over the top and get
to the running back. But the edges control that, you know.
And Jake had said it man that it's not happening.
And because it's not happening, you know what that does
to the office. Oh, they're like, oh, give me the rock.
And you got b Jonna, Robinson, Man and Elzier they

(08:35):
were they're hungry, and then like give me the rock
because if I take this rock, I'm gonna go ahead.
If you're gonna be you know, careless with the edges here,
we're gonna make you pay. And it's hard to stop
a man those men coming down hill the way they
run straight downhill, and we'll run you over and run
away from you. So you know, I think once the
edges are contained and control, you will see even better

(08:58):
play from even though it's guys who are not the
normal guys that's in there.

Speaker 2 (09:03):
And for the Falcons, it's interesting because they came in
with the defense's top twenty three hundred and thirty five
yards allowed, but they were twenty ninth against the rush,
thirty second in sacks, and if I'm not mistaken, I
don't think either team had a snack no second. But
this also team that and we saw offensively there they're
a bit of a juggernaut top ten offense going to
total yards. So it's it's one of those one of

(09:26):
those Falcons teams that I think people felt like this
was probably a game that you play, you play a
good game, you play a smart game, Yeah you would,
and it comes down to just maybe too many, just
one or two too many mistakes.

Speaker 6 (09:39):
Yeah, And that's what I thought coming into this one,
especially with the with Atlanta's run defense, like you said,
I mean, they're pretty low, low end of the totem pole.
So I was thinking with the way you be running,
that they could get that run game going and they
start gashing them, that you could wear them down on offense,
which you know we were doing a good job of
that early on. But then yeah, it was just that defense.
I mean you Kirk Cousins, I mean, what was he
five hundred and nine yeards seen last week? And you

(10:00):
know the weapons they have, They've got so many weapons offensively,
so we needed to be able to have some more
offensive firepower to try to keep up with them.

Speaker 5 (10:07):
But this identity I always just said, is an identity
problem with Atlanta fel because because they're so good at
running the ball and they're so good at passing the ball.
When when Matt Ryan was there, he had Roddy White
and he had the other guy, uh Julie who.

Speaker 3 (10:22):
Killed all the time.

Speaker 6 (10:24):
You know, I'm trying to yes, that guy, all right,
that guy.

Speaker 4 (10:28):
But he had receivers.

Speaker 5 (10:29):
And I used to always say, well, they could either
be a running team or a passing team, depends what
they want to get to do. And I think now
if they decided to be a running team as well
as a block it opens up the passing game so much.
And I think the identity of them. You know, that's
why I thought they were able to beat Tampa Bay

(10:50):
last week. They're just good offensively, and even though they
may not be great defensively, they're good enough offensively to
control the clock and control things and stay on the
field and gash it out by running a rouck.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
And I believe this is the first time this year
they haven't hasn't gone down to the final possession of
the game for the Falcons to win a game. They
finally have a little bit of separation here as they
win thirty eight to twenty over the Panthers here at
Bank of America Stadium. We're often running here on the
Southern Star Bourbon Pace postgame show. We have highlights, final thoughts,
we'll have coach Canalis player interview, and of course our
final thoughts as well are three and outs. As we

(11:26):
move along here on the post game show. Panthers fall
today thirty eight to twenty. And this is the Carolina
Panthers Radio Network. Carolina Panthers hanging close for three quarters,
but fall behind in the fourth, and they fall in
this one by score thirty eight to twenty. This is

(11:48):
the Southern Star Bourbon Peace postgame Show. I don't know
why I'm saying peace.

Speaker 3 (11:52):
But postgame show pace game.

Speaker 8 (11:54):
Yeah, yeah, I don't know where that accident coming.

Speaker 5 (12:00):
Hey chick, well, hey, my man Josh Watson. He's in
a car driving home. He's one of my one of
my students there. He said, Hey, it's Julio Jones. I
see you're talking about we found it figured out Thoro Bears.
She's figured out. So yeah, Josh, I appreciated Josh Julio Jones,
that's what.

Speaker 3 (12:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (12:16):
And he had some big games against Carolina Panthers, but
fortunately today was not one.

Speaker 4 (12:20):
Of them for him.

Speaker 3 (12:20):
Noep, glad, he's gone, glad, he's all right.

Speaker 2 (12:23):

And Sharon a full day in the NFL today.

Speaker 6 (12:37):
Yeah, yeah, starting over there in London, of course, where
Chicago the Bear is whipping up on the Jaguars thirty
five to sixteen. Caleb Williams showing that last week maybe
was no full Yeah, four touchdowns for him on one pick,
but four touchdowns so he is really finding his way
here in the NFL as a rookie. Ravens they beat
up on Washington thirty to twenty three. Anthers of course,

(13:00):
headed to the Commanders. Next week, Arizona got beat up
by Green Bay thirty four to thirteen.

Speaker 3 (13:08):
Houston.

Speaker 6 (13:09):
Houston beats up but the Patriots forty one to twenty
one with Drake may got to give a shout out
to my my tar heel. Three touchdowns in his school debut.
There you go, Mars Bark High School. Three touchdowns in
his debut as a starter there for the Patriots. So
that's that's looking good man. How about Baker Mayfield and
the Bucks hoo fifty one twenty seven over the Saints

(13:29):
fifty one twenty seven. Mayfield had four touchdowns, three interceptions,
and Sean Tucker a guy that I'm like, who's that?
One hundred and thirty six rushing yards for the Bucks
and a touchdown. So Baker and the boys bounced back
in a big way from their loss last week to
the Falcons. It was the Eagles over the Browns twenty
to sixteen. Tennessee beat Indy twenty two seventeen. Chargers beat

(13:52):
the Broncos twenty three to sixteen, Pittsburgh thirty two to
thirteen over Las Vegas. Aiden Hutchinson hoof from a bad
life injury for him that the Lions just pulled off
a big win over Dallas just killed him forty seven
to nine. But Aiden Hutchinson cart it off with what
looked like a very severe leg injury. There are a
lot of reports come to their sayingy, it's a broken leg.

(14:12):
So hopefully, hopefully he's going to be okay. And then
tonight we've got the Bengals and the Giants taking on
each other there in New York, and tomorrow night, Monday
Night game, it's going to be the Jets and the Bills.

Speaker 2 (14:25):
So in our game, between the two quarterbacks, you have
seventy two years and twenty seven years of football experience. Wow. Wow,
how about they bring that up because thirty nine year
old Joe Flacco is winning games for Indianapolis. Yeah, and
I know, and I know you know, Zoke as many

(14:46):
people know, as you know, he has some ties to
the Cleveland Browns from his youth, and so he was
very disappointed that Joe Flacco left Cleveland. And that's Indianapolis's game.
But how about that, Eugene. I mean guys like I
mean we saw Brady play know laid into his you know,
into his forties.

Speaker 4 (15:02):
Drew Brees.

Speaker 5 (15:03):
Absolutely, there's something about you know, I think that position
a quarterback, you know, with Aaron Rodgers knowing through some interceptions,
but there's something about the quarterback position where I think
you have you know, it's one that you don't have
to run around, particularly for you are a pocket quarterback
and they're blocking for you.

Speaker 3 (15:21):
You get the protection.

Speaker 5 (15:22):
I know, those guys make some incredible decisions. One of
the things I noticed Drew Brees the ball would come
out very very quickly. He could probably throw the ball
about forty five fifty yards, but guess what that forty
five fifty yards was going to be dang accurate.

Speaker 4 (15:34):
And so I think there's an advantage of that. Flackel.

Speaker 5 (15:39):
He's good, man, He's just really really good. And I
think Andy Dalton is that way as well. Just so
I'm not giving up on Andy Dalton at all, because
I think he's at that guy. But it's going to
come now to the protection. But I also going to
come down to calling those plays that allow that run
game to get established. Solidly to allow that quarterback to

(16:01):
go ahead.

Speaker 2 (16:01):
And need I think there's two things, well there's more
than two things, but the two things that I want
to highlight here that separate an above average, too exceptional,
or maybe even just an average NFL player up right,
is tremendous recall. Like you know, and pitchers have this
in baseball, and baseball players have this. I mean they
can remember, you know, their first hit from thirty years ago. Right,

(16:22):
I can't remember. I barely remember what I had for
lunch yesterday. But also when Larry Bird used to talk
about this is and Eugene, I think you can you've
experienced this. Like the speed at which I see the
game is one speed.

Speaker 4 (16:33):
I see it differently, you see it different. It slows down. Yeah,
the ball.

Speaker 5 (16:37):
Really, when when I was in the zone and I'm
playing really good football, when it plays would happen and
I'm calling out plays, I could see the trap develop
and I'll see the bootleg all this stuff, it would
slow down. Yeah, way down. I'm going like, just go
what hold up? I know You're not about to go
ahead and run that play. And then I'm calling out
to play. I know you're not about to run a
several route. Oh, I know he's not about to run
a trap. Going to he says, to run a trap,

(16:59):
and you can see it slow down. It's the same
thing for the quarterbacks on the flip side as they
see defensive backs. Oh, I know he's not in zone.
I'm about to eat him up. He's gonna come across. Oh,
he's a man. The man I'm gonna I'm gonna let
hi fly. So you're right, there's something recall that you
have that, you know is what It slows the game
down when you're I think at that type of elite level,

(17:19):
you know, because there's always guys who run around like crazy.
They great athletes, but don't know where the ball is going.
They have no clue, you know. But they're great athletes
and they look good and they have run a grade forty.
But that doesn't win football games for you, no, And.

Speaker 6 (17:33):
That's the value of Andy Dalton. I mean just that
that veteran leadership and he knows what he's doing. And
that's what when when he first was named the starter here,
a lot of the guys were saying, he just he
knows what he's doing out there, and he makes the
job so much easier for us. He makes the game
easy for us, and he's he's been there, done that,
and he can make those great throws and he can
make those great decisions. So I still think that. I mean,

(17:55):
Andy's a great, a great quarterback at her for us,
and I think he's going to continue did good things
for us. We just need to get everything to come
together on defense and offense. Like you said, I think, and.

Speaker 5 (18:06):
I think it's that I think defensively, Dereck Brown. I'm
a big Dereck Brown fan. I was a big Brian
Burns fan. I think we lost that edge rusher person
to come off the edge. I remember has Son, Reddick
Brian burn I mean there's some guys that were just
coming off that edge and not having Derrick Brown. I think,
And and also you got you got Davi a Clowney.

(18:29):
I think he's a guy who's been known to rust
the edge, but it hasn't really materialized the way we expect.
And the fact that they're beating up on our defense
and moving the ball against our defense, I think there's
like the war of attrition that happens. It just seems like, yeah,
we're just getting not tired, but it's just war of

(18:50):
attrition the best way I can say it.

Speaker 2 (18:51):
Well, it just seems sometimes experience and knowledge in film
study can sometimes make up for maybe less athletic ability
when you're playing against younger players that don't maybe have
the experience that you have.

Speaker 5 (19:03):
And when you don't make those plays like Zabel would
have a chance for interception breaking on a little out route,
was in a great position if he makes that play,
totally different play now now, totally different score, totally different momentum.
There are plays that were out there, same thing that
for I think it was J. C. Horn had an
opportunity early in the game for interception. When when you're

(19:24):
struggling defensively, you're looking for some people to make a play,
the marquee guys who hold your guys, and when they
don't make those plays, it ends up it ends up
hurting you down the long run. And so but if
you make the play, totally different score, totally different game,
totally different, it's.

Speaker 3 (19:43):
Totally energy, totally different, And that's what's not that's what's
missing too, because you're there, but you're not making that
play to change it all.

Speaker 2 (19:52):
Come in the game, and that it affects your confidence.

Speaker 4 (19:54):
Yes, it does.

Speaker 2 (19:55):
Unfortunately, well, we are we have plenty of confidence here
in the Southern Starburban post game show. We have planning
to go through. We have a player interview, we have
coach canals, of course our exclusive interviews. We'll have another scoreboard,
injury report coming up, our three and outs. Of course,
final thoughts from the booth. But up next we'll take
a look at highlights from this game. Panthers falling it
home to the Atlanta Falcons thirty eight to twenty. You're

(20:18):
listening to the Panthers Football presented by Morris Jenkins.

Speaker 1 (20:22):
Yes he's still the Panthers postgame Show, presently by Southern
Star unofficial bourbon of the Carolina Panthers. Celebrate the spirit
of the Carolinas.

Speaker 9 (20:33):
So y gift Straight up the Middle, Touchdown, Touchdown.

Speaker 1 (20:37):
Carolina Reaction and analysis to today's game with special guests,
highlights and updates from around the league.

Speaker 10 (20:45):
Complete touchdown, right side, next the catch, touchdown.

Speaker 2 (20:49):
Heather, Now what talk about it?

Speaker 9 (20:51):
Now?

Speaker 8 (20:52):
What?

Speaker 1 (20:52):
No till Mike Pucico with the Panthers postgame Show exclusively
on the Carolina Panthers the own Network.

Speaker 2 (21:03):
So a tough one here for Panther fans thirty eight
to twenty, and we've kind of been lamenting about you know,
just a play here and a play there, and this
is a completely different outcome. I would say this though,
and this is not you know, this is not the
moral victory. But at least you know, for three you know,
even going into the fourth quarter, there was there was

(21:25):
at least hope and thoughts that there was a chance
that Panthers could pull it out or at least maybe
try and you know, get to win last second. It's
the opposite of what we've seen in some games, not
just this year, but where we're talking about a thirty
point loss or a twenty point loss or something like that.
I mean, it's a different Again, it's not a it's
not a moral victory, but at least, you know, the

(21:47):
one thing that you have to have as a fan base,
I think, or one thing you want to have is hope.

Speaker 6 (21:51):
I think there, I think you absolutely have that because
you're I mean, the Chicago game has a little bit
of an outlier that was rough, but this game, I
mean you still felt like I mean, you know, we're
in the in the fourth quarter, driving with the ball
and you're like, all right, we go down and tie
it here, you know, or.

Speaker 3 (22:09):
Point game.

Speaker 6 (22:09):
You go down tied if you don't get the two
point com version and you're just down, you know, for
you just get a field goal later. So you think
that you've got a chance to do something because this
team has enough, they have enough talent, they have enough,
they have what they need to be able to be
successful in this league. And they have shown it and
you can you saw that again today Andy Dalon running
this offense, they can start clicking and Chewba Hubbard is
just rolling and Dante Johnson great game for him today.

(22:32):
You see some some real bright spots from xavierly Get,
you know, and Jalen Coker. I mean yes, yeah, yeah, yeah,
it's a lot to this offense. Well, Miles Sandras with
some great touches today. So they have the pieces in place.
And like I said earlier, I love the way the
offensive line has been able to just keep rolling in
spite of missing two key starters. So the offense can

(22:53):
keep you in these games and keep rolling, and you
you've got you've got things to look forward to, and
especially if you can start getting some of these defensive
guys back injury the one so we didn't even mention
DJ Wanton before, who's you know, hasn't set foot on
the field dead either this year. So you got a
lot of guys who are hopefully going to be working
their way back to bring some reinforcements for the defense.
But I think there's this this team still has potential

(23:14):
to be able to get the job done.

Speaker 5 (23:16):
But Dosta brings them another component to that. We haven't
talked about special teams and getting what you care from
your special teams.

Speaker 4 (23:22):
And I love the of why black Chaer runs the rock.

Speaker 5 (23:24):
I mean, he he puts a foot in the ground
and he makes positive yodys with on a punt return.
He's gonna get you. He's gonna give you something. Look
that's going to give you something. But that's what you
really need that to happen. And I need also my
parter to be an opinion down and not get the
ball partially blogged. I mean, so there's there's a lot
of things like when you're think about special teams, that

(23:45):
special teams need to be able to add some something
to what we got going on. But those significant plays
run back. I mean when you think about like having
a Steve Smith there, having a Michael Baits back in
the day, you special teams player. That's going to really
change the outcome of what's going on a little bit.

(24:06):
We need some of those momentum things and we we
haven't gotten them a little bit. So that also contributes
to things.

Speaker 2 (24:12):
Well, that was that block punt. You know, we thought
maybe there would have been a defensive penalty there. Looked
like even though JJ Jensen looked like there was some
other stuff going on.

Speaker 3 (24:22):
Yeah, that's not a guy's maybe here. Very often say penalty.

Speaker 2 (24:27):
Have a pump block. I mean probably three a year.

Speaker 5 (24:29):
Exactly exactly, and so and and here it is when
you're when you're losing and you're hanging in there, you
looking for where else could I get a spark? Can
I get that interception and by Xavier Woods? Or did
Horn make that interception? Oh man, oh he changed the game?
Or man black shirt, he ran the ball back. He
gave us fifty yards. Now we in field goal range.

(24:51):
Kick the ball is those type of plays that you're
looking for to take up the slack when you're not
playing at your best and they're closed.

Speaker 6 (24:58):
Yes, to break through here in the next hopefully next
week against the Commanders, they're close and you can just
feel them just they're just almost there to make that
play like Jays and they give your day. They're almost there.
So if they can get those and then reverse the
punt block and things like that, then you know, and.

Speaker 5 (25:16):
I want Andy Dalton to put that ball on the
front side, which I know he will. I'm speaking as
a deficile back because the bar can't be just you
have to throw that man open. And if you ever
to put the ball on the front side or the backside,
when you need to depend on where the deficive back
is at, you know, And that's one thing I think
he does really well throw people open.

Speaker 2 (25:35):
All right, So we have highlights coming up here, but
first let's pause ten seconds for station identifications the Carolina
Panthers radio network. So the Carolina Panthers started off with
the ball first, they go three and out, they force
a punt on the other side. So in the second
series for the Carolina Panthers, they march it down the
field before Andy Dalton hooks up with Deontay Johnson.

Speaker 9 (25:59):
Miles the running back. Dalton, resting in the shotgun, trips
to the right play clock at five.

Speaker 2 (26:04):
Here's the snap Dalton polls.

Speaker 10 (26:06):
For the end zone brought in by the ya Ted
Jackson who chucks the ball into the stands a souvenir.

Speaker 9 (26:14):
For a lucky pan of a two hundred section and at.

Speaker 2 (26:17):
Six nothing, Carolina Panthers would get the Eddie Pinero pat
so they lead it seven to nothing, and then the
Falcons they kind of did their equivalent of that Panther drive,
except they finished off with Jon Robinson.

Speaker 9 (26:33):
Pistol said. Robinson sweeps least, he's got the five and
he pulls Wallace into the end zone four a Falcons touchdown.

Speaker 2 (26:42):
So that tied it up seven to seven. Panthers would
straddle the half of the quarter rather so going into
the second quarter they would end up punting on that drive.
And then in the next Atlanta series, there was a catch.
It looked like at first at first look, it looked
like maybe it was an incomplete pass Panthers challenge, and
it turns out it's a fumble, So the Panthers get

(27:04):
the ball back. They would get a field goal on
the ensuing drive and they would go up ten to seven,
but that would be their last lead of the game
because Bijon Robinson striking again.

Speaker 9 (27:20):
First and goal through the seven toss left, Robertson swims
through a couple of defenders and bullies into the end
zone for a touchdown.

Speaker 2 (27:29):
That made it fourteen to ten. After the pat we
just talked about it. On the next start of the
Panthers had the kick blocked, so it was plus territory
for the or the Falcons actually took it on their
own twenty seven, I should say, and then they marched
down the field before Kirk Cousins connects with Drake London.

Speaker 9 (27:47):
Big test for this Panthers defense.

Speaker 7 (27:49):
Third down and goal.

Speaker 9 (27:50):
Cousins is in the shotgun. Algier off his left tip
pits the tight end motion Cousins to throw quick slant
caught by London to the end zone for a touchdown.
He gets crudged by claud and Cheryls at the end
of the play.

Speaker 2 (28:04):
Yeah, there was a personal foul on that. So the
Falcons had the opportunity to elect to go for two
from the one yard line. They did that. It was
a two point conversion and the score twenty to ten.
So the Panthers get the ball a minute thirty six
to go, they're driving down the field. It's first and
goal at the nineteen Andy Dalton a little scramble.

Speaker 9 (28:27):
Trips right, Johnson to the left. Tight coverage there for
the Terrell Dalton calling out the defense, Falcons show the blitz.

Speaker 7 (28:34):
They bring it.

Speaker 9 (28:35):
Andy in the pocket, gets hit, gets away. He's got
rooting to run Dalton right side. Thirty twenty five twenty
inside the fifteen.

Speaker 10 (28:43):
Out of bounds at the ten yard line.

Speaker 2 (28:46):
Had a boy Andy not bat Sharon a little scamper
for the thirty six year old getting nineteen yards in.

Speaker 3 (28:52):
Yeah, that was something you don't expect to see every day, right.

Speaker 2 (28:55):
So that sets up the seven yard touchdown pass to
Xavier Leguet. We got to see a dollar bill and
the Panthers pulled within five. Twenty two seventeen was the
score at the half. Atlanta against the ball. To start
the second half, they would essentially trade field goals. Each
team had a field goal, then Atlanta would get another
field goal, So three straight field goals for the two

(29:15):
teams combined. We go into the fourth quarter, Panthers marching
down the field when disaster strikes.

Speaker 9 (29:22):
Flake block down to six. Thomas lined up next to
Akuana on the left side. Pistol said, then goes to
slotman Cocher boss left or right. There's the snap play
fake Dalton boots to his right close down field, intercepted,
picked off by A J. Terrell. Hey wanted he and
Thomas it's a red zone turnover. Atlanta takes over at

(29:43):
its own fifteen yard line.

Speaker 2 (29:45):
Yeah'd be another touchdown for the Falcons after that, Algier
going for a two yard run and then the maybe
to add insult injury, the Falcons kick a field goal
and they go on to win this game by a
score of thirty eight to twenty. So some good things
and some things that, you know, some disaster that happens
at the wrong time. I guess it's never a good

(30:06):
time for bad things to happen on the football field.
But I think if you're the Panthers, I think you
have to feel that you know this is this is
a game that was in their reach for a good
part of the game and then it just kind of
slipped away.

Speaker 3 (30:19):
Yeah. Absolutely.

Speaker 6 (30:20):
I mean they had this one, like you said, down
down aid there in the fourth quarter, driving with a
chance to tie the game or at least get it
within you know, six points if they didn't get a
two point conversion there. So it's you know, it's a
tough pill to swallow when things just fall apart, but
it just seemed like things just weren't going their way today,
even though they were in it all the way to

(30:40):
the end there, they just had some inopportune dropped passes,
you know, and said, it seems like the falcons. I
kept saying, cover bijeon. I mean, it seems like Jean
Robinson must just opened this entire game every single time,
either to run it or to catch it. He would
just be like standing there all by himself. It's like,
how do you get so open? So the defense I
feel like was the uh, I don't want to say

(31:01):
the leak link, but the defense has definitely struggled more
on the offense today.

Speaker 5 (31:04):
Yeah, there's no doubt I think that the defense, in
my opinion, I think they struggled big time. And that
was that was obvious. And here, just don't forget the
Carolina Panthers drew first blood. I mean they went down
the field and let's said and made a statement. I said, whoa, Okay,
this is something you can build upon. Uh, there's no
doubt about that. And I thought that that was going

(31:25):
to be what we were going to do all day long.
We're gonna have that type of movement. But once again,
when I saw what was happening with the defense, then
I was like, oh when when Atlanta went came back
and scored, immediately, I said, our defense is gonna be
in trouble because it's gonna be hard to hold back
that that fire.

Speaker 4 (31:43):
They got too many, too many weapons, and.

Speaker 6 (31:45):
They did make a couple of good tib where they
they held them out of the end zone those couple
of times, and you had made him settle for field goals,
which I thought was felt like a win at the
time when they were, you know, rolling down there when
they when they stuffed him at the end at the
red zone and the end zone that one time, and
then was able to force a field goal again. So
could you think, Okay, we're still in this thing. So
they did make some key plays down the stretch, but

(32:08):
just had gave up too many big plays.

Speaker 2 (32:09):
All right, Falcons win this one by a score of
thirty eight to twenty. More to come here on the
Southern Star Bourbon postgame show. We still have our exclusive interviews,
we'll have final thoughts from the guys in the booth,
and of course are three and outs as well. So
more to come here on the Southern Star Bourbon Post
Game Show on the Carolina Panthers Radio Network. This is

(32:34):
Panthers Post Game Show presented by Southern Star, an official
bourbon of the Carolina Panthers. Celebrate the spirit of the Carolinas.
Mike Pachico, Eugenie Robinson, Sharon Thorsland alongside, and we're gonna
send it down to I think we would all agree
is one of the stars of today's game for the Panthers,
Chew Bah Hubbard. He had eighteen carries ninety two yards
and he is now joined by a Niche, Jim and Jake.

Speaker 7 (32:58):
All right, thanks, welcome back. Chew bah Hubbard joins us
now on the day. Eighteen carries ninety two yards averaged
over five yards per carries. What's been a terrific running
season for Cuba. Let behind the offensive line and Tuba
Today you had two of your five starting offensive linemen down.
But as far as that running game went, looks like
you guys didn't lose a beat in that category today.

Speaker 11 (33:17):
No, I mean, that's just something we pried ourselves on
running the ball. Coaches alluded to that. Since he's got here,
that you know, we're gonna run the ball, and that's
something that we did. In my opinion, I feel like
I missed some opportunities early in the game.

Speaker 4 (33:30):
That's on me.

Speaker 12 (33:30):
But back to work, Tuba is Jake here once again, Cuba,
I'll sing your praises. I've sung it since your rookie year.
I think you watched Christian McCaffrey early on. You take
care of your body, the jugs machine, before and after practice,
things of that nature, and you're reaping the rewards. That
being said. Offensively, that's the strong part of our team
right now. Defensively, we've had a ton of issues. What's

(33:53):
the mindset going into a game knowing all the injuries
we have on defense? Is the pressure is offense putting
that much pressure on them, else thinking hey guys, we
got to keep stain drops, we gotta score every play.

Speaker 4 (34:03):
What's that mindset?

Speaker 11 (34:05):
I mean, you know, it's an NFL, it's a next
man up mentality. So you know, obviously it's been unfortunate
with the injuries that we've had, but you know, we
have a lot of great depth and a lot of
great players on this team, so we trust in them.
So whether it's an injury and someone has to step up.
We know they'll do their best job. And an offense,
it's just about, you know, controlling what we can control
and playing good, good football.

Speaker 9 (34:27):
Suba in here, How good is this offensive line? I
know you're missing a couple of pieces, but even still,
how good is this offensive line?

Speaker 11 (34:35):
I mean they're amazing. Words can't really describe how good
they are. They're physical, they're smart, they know what to do,
and they work well with each other. And obviously we've
had some unfortunate injuries, but like I said, the thing is,
we have that next man up mentality and it shows.
So you know, I'm blessed to be able to run
behind them.

Speaker 9 (34:56):
And last thing here, just from a field standpoint, and
we're up here in the booth we're watching. There's a
different feel about the offense from last year to this year.
And I know it's more than just you know, a
quarterback change. Can can you speak to that?

Speaker 7 (35:11):
Like?

Speaker 9 (35:11):
What what to you? Feels different about this offense?

Speaker 8 (35:16):
Uh?

Speaker 11 (35:16):
I mean I just feel that we're explosive offense. You know,
we're able to you know, have a combination of the
pass and the run, and I think we're we're really
close to showing what we're we're truly capable of. So uh,
you know, we've see in glimpses of it here and there.
We just got to be more consistent and put all

(35:36):
together for full game, and we're almost there. We're really close.
I really do believe that we have all the players
we need. I really do believe that also, whether it's receivers,
tight ends, offensive line, running back. I feel like we're
talented enough to compete in this in this league, and
we're gonna get there.

Speaker 7 (35:52):
All right, look forward to a team getting healthier in
the coming weeks as well and adding to that list. Tube,
But thank you for joining us.

Speaker 11 (35:57):
Thank you.

Speaker 4 (35:58):
I appreciate it.

Speaker 7 (35:58):
Hi Chuba Howbard to get ninety two yards today as
we check in once again with Mike, Sharon and Eugene.

Speaker 2 (36:03):
All right, So thank you very much, and you'll love
the confidence that Cuba has in the team. But I
do think there is something about and maybe it's not
necessarily the quarterback itself, but the play of that position,
and when that play that position is playing better, the
offense is going to play better. Whether it's Bryce or
whether it's you know, whether it's Andy Dalton or Bryce Young.

Speaker 6 (36:25):
Yeah, you think it just gives the offense as a
whole confidence, you know, because they believe that Andy or
whoever is out there is going to be able to
move the offense and get things done when they need to.
And I think that was really interesting what Tuba just
said that he feels like we're almost right there to
show what we're truly capable of doing. That they're almost
ready to really explode. And like you said, you've seen
glimpses of it. You've seen like that drive their first

(36:47):
drive there with all the shots to Deontae and stuff
to captain that in that touchdown. So you've seen the
highlights of what this offense could do. And you already
know what Cuba can do with the run game. So
it's like he said, the consistency, if they can just
get that consistency, and then it's going to bring them
even more confidence. And when the offense starts rolling, you know,
you just.

Speaker 5 (37:07):
Now I think they are very close, but once again,
you got to make the plays when the plays come
to you. And that's what I think he's talking about,
because when we talk about if we go back a
couple of weeks, we go we see some drop passes
by Mingo. We see some drop passes by Leaguette've seen
some drop passes and you go, oh, man, if you
just make that play, it's going to be a totally
different play. It's going to change the landscape of things.

(37:28):
That's what I mean. The other team is too good
for you not to make the play. Because if you
give Cousins another shot, you give Bijon Robinson another shot,
you really you want to give them an extra uh,
you know, an extra possession. You don't want to do
that because they are too good. So that's why the
premium is. When the play comes to your side, you

(37:49):
got to make that play. You got to knock down
the ball, get start and get the fumble. You have
to do that, protect the ball. All that stuff means
something because if you don't, you're talking about what tubashing about.

Speaker 4 (38:00):
We're so close now, we're right there.

Speaker 5 (38:03):
Is they're missing We're right there because he's looking at
some of all those players and going, man, if we
just get this done, we're good.

Speaker 4 (38:11):
All right.

Speaker 2 (38:12):
More to come here. We'll have a Dave Canalis, the
head coach of the Panthers, coming up next here in
the Southern Starbourbon Pace, postgame show. I keep doing that.
You're listening to Panthers football up, said by Morris Jenkins.

Speaker 1 (38:22):
Back to the Panthers postgame show, pre sum it by
Southern Star unofficial bourbon of the Carolina Panthers celebrate the
spirit of the Carolinas.

Speaker 2 (38:35):
And back here at Bank of America Stadium, Mike Pachico,
Sharon Dorsland, Eugene Robinson with you here in the Southern
starbourbon postgame show. Panthers falling this one, thirty eight to twenty.
And let's send it back down the hall to Jim
Aniche and Jake because they have the head coach of
the Panthers, Dave Canals, standing by Jim.

Speaker 7 (38:52):
All right, we're back with the coach now. Dave Canal
is following this game against Atlanta today and then coach,
you guys hung in, kept battling back, took it into
the fourth quarter. I guess maybe if all the things
that were most difficult was just the ability to stop
the rush of Atlanta's game, and of course, personnel wise,
you're dealing with a lot of issues on that side
right now. What kind of stood out about what Atlanta
was able to do and running the ball today.

Speaker 13 (39:14):
It was just the commitment that they had, you know,
to being able to you know, call their runs and
you know, just stay with it, you know, and that's
where it makes it challenging. And and of course, you know,
just it's it's all across you know, the ball. For us,
it's about finishing, you know, it's about the consistency that
we're looking for as we're improving, you know, as we
start to see these games get closer, you know, and

(39:34):
we're you know, three out of the really really you know,
three out of the last four games, playing ourselves into
a chance to finish these games the way we want to,
you know. And so it's just right back to the
drawing board, the fundamentals and basics of of fitting these
things up that we know the teams are going to
try to run the ball, so we got to just
continue to you know, improve our fundamentals.

Speaker 12 (39:54):
Hey, coach is Jake, Yeah, I want to talk about
the on line play, missing two starters today. What's your
overall thoughts on the O line play? And then the
run game with Chuba Hubbard.

Speaker 13 (40:04):
Yeah, you know, it was it was a little bit
shaky to start. The guy settled in and played fine, football.
You know, we were able to you know, maintain some drives,
We were able to have the protection that we needed
in different situations, and so I was fired up about
the guys just kind of settling into a group and
I could feel them playing together even as we went
into that last drive a one score game, you know,

(40:24):
being able to run the ball the way we did
with those guys in there was fantastic. So I'm really
encouraged about this group and the way that they were
able to finish.

Speaker 9 (40:33):
Dave one of the encouraging signs that we saw elsewhere
just this rookie class leaguet had a touchdown. Cocher continues
to make plays. I know, Trevin, with all that's on
his plate, continues to get those reps and you have
trusted him. JT. Sanders describe how this rookie class has
evolved here through this first you know part of the season.

Speaker 13 (40:54):
Yeah, first of all, it's a tribute to the guys
really just pressing into what we're trying to do the
style of how we're trying to play, and we're counting
on them, you know, and they're they're stepping up to
the challenges, they're stepping up to these moments and opportunities
that they're making plays for us with, you know. And
and again just tip of the cap to the coaches,
you know, Pete Hanson working with trenton NonStop, you know,

(41:14):
and making sure that he's clear on all of his calls,
you know. Coach Rob Moore with the Xavier and Jalen,
you know, just spending those extra hours you know, with
them and making sure they're ready to play football.

Speaker 7 (41:24):
You know.

Speaker 13 (41:25):
So I'm really you know, I couldn't be happier with
the way that these guys who and we're gonna need them,
you know, as our football gets closer and closer, these
guys got to continue to step up for us so
that we can play our style of ball.

Speaker 7 (41:36):
Yep. A couple of road games coming up at Washington
next Sunday. Coach, thanks for joining us.

Speaker 2 (41:41):
Thank you all right.

Speaker 7 (41:41):
Coach Dave Canal, is there thirty eight to twenty Falcons
win over the Panthers as we check in once again
with Sharon, Mike and Eugene.

Speaker 2 (41:48):
All right, Jim, thank you very much. Pants' Locker Room Show,
brought to you by Southern Star and official bourbon of
the Carolina Panthers, celebrate the spirit of the Carolinas, and
you know we're you know, obviously sitting at one and
five now owing to in the division. I mean, I
guess the balances between trying to stay positive and also

(42:09):
so being realistic, and I think that's a tough thing
to kind of manage.

Speaker 5 (42:13):
I bet you the spend maybe a little bit different too,
because I bet you, like as coach is he highlighted,
talked about some of the positive things. But I wonder
what's in the locker room. Sure, what's being said, because
I know that Mike Hogrean would say some great things,
flowered things to the public, but to us out right
there in the locker rooms, behind the scenes, And so
I wonder how much is going on because when you

(42:35):
look at what we're able to do, he's going to
feel the same frustration as it was articulated by Chope
Hubbard about was so close, was so close? Was so close?
So I wonder what that as. What is he saying
in the locker room. I bet he's probably a little
bit different.

Speaker 6 (42:52):
He's I mean, he's such a positive guy there, so
I'm sure, yeah, I'm sure he is saying a little
bit more more choice things to take.

Speaker 2 (42:58):
Language might be a little different inside the room outside.

Speaker 6 (43:00):
Yeah, And that is one thing about coach Canal is
he is so positive. He's always looking for you know,
the glasses have full instead of half empty kind of thing.
But but I'm sure he's pointing out the things that
they have, the mistakes, the things they did wrong, and saying, hey, guys,
we gotta we gotta get this stuff turned around.

Speaker 4 (43:15):
Because that's the only way you's gonna fix that.

Speaker 9 (43:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (43:18):
And like he keeps talking about, we're getting better every week,
We're getting better. You got to overcome those things to
continue to get better.

Speaker 2 (43:24):
All Right, another look around the league. We may have
a potential score of Gami alert for you as well,
score gummy well if final thoughts from the booth Atrium
injury report and of course are three and ounce. As
we make our way through the Southern Star Bourbon post
game show and you are listening to the Carolina Panthers
Radio Network anyway, welcome back to Bank of America's Stadium

(43:51):
with Eugene Robinson Sharon Thorsland. I am like Pachico parents
fall thirty eight twenty here at Bank of America Stadium.
So the Panthers now fall to one in five I
zero and two in the Division Atlanta and NOWT four
and two, Wow, and they're three and zero in the division.
Teams that are four and two have a sixty four
percent chance of making the playoffs according to playoff percentages

(44:13):
since nineteen ninety based on the start of the season
based on season starts. So I don't know if that
means anything, but there you have it. This drive around
the League brought to you by your Honda Dealers of
the Carolina's Sharon. Let's take a look at the late
scores here.

Speaker 6 (44:27):
Yeah, I'm starting out with the Chargers beating up on
the Broncos twenty three to sixteen.

Speaker 3 (44:32):
JK.

Speaker 6 (44:33):
Dobbins another big game for him, ninety six yards, one touchdown.
At the same thing with the Steelers. Naja Harris got
a big game from him on the ground one hundred
and six rush yards and a touchdown as they beat
the no longer Gardner minshud led Las Vegas team so
thirty two to thirteen.

Speaker 3 (44:49):
In that one.

Speaker 6 (44:49):
And then Dallas, holy mulla, did they get just absolutely
blown out Ballpark forty seven to nine. Oh, forty seven
to nine. It was the Lions over the Cowboys. One
really sad note coming out though, Aiden Hutchinson, their star
defensive player. He went down with a terribly severe broken
leg has already had to have emergency surgery to repair

(45:11):
a compound fracture, which is a nasty kind and of
his tibia. So he's gonna compound fracture at the tibia.
That's that's no fun. Then, for those of you who
don't know what that is, that's when the bone sticks
out of the skin.

Speaker 3 (45:23):
That's like, yeah, that's a nasty one.

Speaker 1 (45:26):
Yikes.

Speaker 2 (45:27):
And forty seven to nine is the one one thousand
and eighty seventh unique score, So it's a score.

Speaker 3 (45:34):
Gommy. I just learned that tonight. Yeah, I had never
heard of that. You taught me something new.

Speaker 2 (45:38):
I thought that was I don't know. I came across
it like seven eight years ago, and now I'm hooked.

Speaker 3 (45:43):
Oh wow, I just I just followed them on you
got me hook.

Speaker 2 (45:46):
Yeah, it's not jumi, it's score Gomi Gomi. Yeah. Also
taking over the injury port presented by our friends at
a Triom Health. You deserve to live your best life
and Atrium Health is here to help. So far, it
looks like just cloud and less with a hamstring. There
were a couple of players. I know Roy came out,
but he went back into the game, and Ashawn Robinson

(46:08):
missed a couple of players and came back in. So
hopefully that's that's it on the health front, but you know,
we really won't know until the players come in tomorrow
because sometimes it's that that night arrest that really kind
of pops up. But one thing I just wanted to
kind of get back to, and we've kind of alluded
to it, but it just felt like Geene, that was

(46:30):
this like a combination of maybe maybe some communication issues
or just some coverage issues combined with the fact that
it didn't seem like there was maybe the push up front,
because obviously one helps the other, but when both are
kind of not where you want it to be, it
leads to like Sharon said, it just looked like Jon
Robinson and sometimes Pitts, I mean looked like there was

(46:50):
wide open.

Speaker 5 (46:51):
Yeah, because you know, your coverage is only as good
as your rush, and whether you're a man or man,
or you're in zone, you can be there. But if
you have no rush that's to put pressure on the quarterback,
that's gonna move off the quarterback move off the spot.
It doesn't matter. The quarterback can always throw the ball
where you're not right and and and lead the receiver open.

(47:11):
So a lot of things that we saw was it
was a lot of time because there was no rush
on the quarterback and Cousins he just started to eviscerate.

Speaker 4 (47:20):
He tryed to just light you up. Man.

Speaker 5 (47:22):
You know you got b John Robinson, he's open. You
don't want to get that guy the ball because he's
gonna run you over. And so from the standpoint, you know,
I I see what we're dealing with. I thought early
in the game we had some really good coverage, some
man of mass stuff. There was some really PBUs batter
down balls and whatnot or contestant the receiver. But as

(47:42):
time went on, that just weighing to just decrease. And
so you know, your own your coverage is only good
as how your rush is.

Speaker 4 (47:51):
It really is.

Speaker 5 (47:51):
You can have the great coverage you know, all you want,
but if the guys, if it did not get to
the quarterback, it's gonna be hard for you to stay on.

Speaker 2 (48:00):
And then Sharon, you had the kind of the one
two punch at running back for the Falcons. So that
kind of helped contribute maybe to we're down the defensive
line one.

Speaker 3 (48:06):
Yeah, absolutely, and both those guys.

Speaker 6 (48:07):
I when you saw me Tyler l year the year
before Bejeon came last year, I mean he was over
a thousand yards, you know, his first year here with
the Falcons. Then yeah, then you add in Bejon last
year and with the two of them, because they're both big,
powerful guys to me, and Algier just bowls you over,
but Bejon does too, and he's such a threat in
the passing game.

Speaker 3 (48:25):
He can just do it all.

Speaker 6 (48:26):
So when you have a one to two punch like that,
you look around the league at teams that have that
kind of a one two punch at running back. They're
they're tough to stop quite often offensively, and the Falcons
are finally starting to take advantage of them a little
bit more. Really this season, they have not used them
that much.

Speaker 3 (48:40):
I was surprised.

Speaker 6 (48:40):
I always do my scouting reports for the pregame show
here on the Panther Radio Network, and I was surprised
to see that their rushing numbers were so low. But
when you had Kirk Cousins, you know, just flying the
ball around like he's been doing, they haven't had to
rely on us today. They really took advantage of that
run game today.

Speaker 2 (48:57):
All right, when we come back here in the Southern
Starbourbon post game Show, we'll send it back to jim A.
Niche and Jake. We'll get their final thoughts, and then
of course we'll wrap things up the segment after that
with our three and outs and our sun Belt, harding working,
hardest working player of the game. So start putting you

(49:18):
who is going to be all right, I got my vote.
I think we know the answer to that vote and
the final thoughts next here you're listening to Panthers Football presented.

Speaker 1 (49:26):
By Back to Mike Puchico with more of the Panthers
postgame show. Pre see I'm a by Southern Star aun
official Bourbon of the Carolina Panthers. Celebrate the spirit up
in Carolinas.

Speaker 2 (49:43):
All right, alongside Sharon Gene and Mike, I have Mike Pachico.
This is the Panthers Post Game Show presented by Southern Star,
Official Bourbon of the Carolina Panthers. Let's send it back
down to the final time to Jim A. Niche and
Jake for their final thoughts.

Speaker 7 (49:57):
Lop sided one for the Panthers on the final score.
They hung in for a large majority of the game,
but in the end thirty eight to twenties, things got
out of hand, mostly by Atlanta rushing the ball one
hundred and ninety eight yards on the ground, Tyler als
Yer one hundred five yards with a touchdown, John Robinson
ninety five yards two touchdowns, Kirk Cousins to twenty five
in the air with a touchdown. Panthers had another good

(50:18):
rushing displayed by Chewba Hubbard again just a nearer one
hundred yards ninety two yards rushing in this one, and
he dald In two fourth quarter interceptions as they kind
of tried to press the issue. But two hundred and
twenty one yards two touchdowns beyond that a formula where
could just like by a niche, I think the eyeball
test look at the Panthers defense and go, that's a
lot of practice squad guys out there. There's a lot

(50:40):
of injuries, and again those guys are I think they're
given what they've got, but there's a talent gap right
now because of the large number of injuries on defense
offense held they're wrong. They were competitive. I think if
the score was closer. This could have been a really
interesting game. But I think the biggest thing out of
all of it in Niche was just the Panthers defense
just never felt like they could really slow down even
a speed bump on.

Speaker 9 (50:58):
No, this Falcons offense is a good one. We knew
that Kirk Cousins makes a difference. You know, they're skilled players.
London and Robinson and Algaeer and Pitts and all those
guys made plays, mooney, But you start looking at how
the Falcons closed the game, starting really in the second quarter.
They go touchdown, touchdown, kneel down, end of half, field goal,

(51:19):
field goal, touchdown, field goal, kneel down to win the game.
So the last six full possessions the Falcons scored and
that just leaves the offense with no margin for error.
And having said all that fourth quarter, first drive of
that quarter, Chewba Hubbard is running it well. The Panthers
are into Falcons territory. They've got the momentum, they're pushing
Atlanta up front. And the one real big mistake Andy

(51:43):
Dalton made an interception by aj Terrell. It was intended
for Ian Thomas. It's a red zone pick and just
given the state of the defense and the inability to
get stops because of all the injuries Jake. It gives
this offense very little margin for error. This is a
decent NFL offense right now. It's far better than what
we saw at any point a year ago. You have

(52:05):
faith that they can move the ball, they can get
up and down the field. But again, it's hard to
win when you give up thirty eight in the NFL.

Speaker 12 (52:12):
No, it's extremely hard. But you said it, it's light
years ahead of last year's offense. It's not even close.
But once again, we have to be so good on offense.
We can't turn it over. We need to sustained drives.
We need a score. It's almost like playing back. Make it,
take it in your backyard. It's they score. We have
to score. That's what it feels like. And and listen, defensively,

(52:34):
it's a battle, there's no doubt about it. We did
get the one turnover today on the fumble recovery, but
other than that, you know, a couple of picks and
we have the block punt today and turn it over
on downs once and we have to play a doorn
near perfect football game on offense and defensively, it just
needs to kind of bend as much as possible without breaking.

(52:56):
And it's the pattern we're in right now. But we're
getting some young guys since young guys making some plays.
Cocher once again watching to get getting the touchdown pass,
Sanders watching him catching the ball going up the field.

Speaker 4 (53:08):
You're starting to see things like that.

Speaker 12 (53:10):
Chewba Hubbard once again.

Speaker 4 (53:11):
Offensive line.

Speaker 12 (53:12):
I gotta give credit to the offensive line with Brady
playing at center. Yes, we had a couple of pre
snapp penalties, which we can't have. That was too many
in the first half, but that's the state of the
union right now.

Speaker 9 (53:24):
Jim. I'm curious to see what this team looks like
when at least some of the guys come back. We
know Derek Brown's out for the year, Shaq Thompson's out
for the year, but you're hoping to get Jordan Fuller
back maybe soon. You're hoping to get Dane Jackson soon.
He was listed on the injury report. Is questionable for today.
Hopefully Clowney is not a long term thing. Doubtful today, right,

(53:46):
Josie Jewel, there's another one at any point? Could we
see dj Wanham, Could we see maybe even an Amari
Barnow later in the year. But you throw those guys
in there. With Adam Thielen coming back from a hamstring,
I think we're all excited to see what Jonathan Brooks
can bring to the table. All of a sudden, you know,
what you're going to have is a lot of these

(54:08):
guys who are playing meaningful snaps now who wouldn't otherwise
play now become your depth and make you a better roster. However,
in the near term, while the injuries are real and
they're taking their toll, Yeah, it's guys that normally would
be on the practice squad who are playing on Sundays.

Speaker 7 (54:26):
I think Jake famously repeated the phrase we've heard many
times through the years, no one's gonna come save you,
so no one feels sorry for you when you have
a bunch of injuries. You know the Niners have had,
you know, no Christian maccaffery with a lot of big
injuries there, Kansas City's had some big injuries. Miami without
Tua looks different, and those teams are sometimes affected. Sometimes
they're not. Panthers just aren't deep enough to overcome all
of that. Right now, So to your point, as these

(54:47):
guys hopefully trickle back on it in in the next
couple of weeks, more competition as far as being close,
and then some wins that come from all of this.
As we send it back down to the hall and
continue with Mike, Eugene and Sharon back to you guys.

Speaker 2 (55:00):
All right, thank you very much. So you know what,
I'm going to end the speculation here, The Hardest Working
Player of the Game, presented by Sunbelt Reynolds, the official
rental equipment partner of the Carolina Pants. I think this
is gonna be a unanimous it's.

Speaker 5 (55:11):
A unanimous I don't care what we're saying. So what
we're saying, what we're saying.

Speaker 2 (55:14):
So eighteen carries ninety two yards averaged five point one
yards per carry.

Speaker 4 (55:23):
He had ninety seven yards less right.

Speaker 6 (55:25):
Right, and then he reached before that. I mean, so
he's like got close to four hundred yards here now
over the past four games. And he is just a machine.
He just pounds it right upright.

Speaker 2 (55:34):
Figure, if they could, you know, you take that interception away,
probably easily gets over one hundred yards. Yeah, So he
is our hardest working player of the game.

Speaker 8 (55:43):
And that's congratulations. I think that's three three times, and
I think we picked him three times. I think three
times in a row. And it just only speaks to
how well he's been playing. And so yeah, I can
look at other players, but he's he's making that significant
impact on the team that you want consistently.

Speaker 2 (55:58):
All Right, we're gonna take our final time. When we
come back, we'll have our three and outs and get
you ready for the next game, which will be at
Northwest Stadium, the Washington Commander's Panthers Stadium show at one
o'clock or excuse me, Panthers Stadium show ten o'clock. Right,
all right, but hold.

Speaker 3 (56:18):
On, Actually you know you're right.

Speaker 6 (56:19):
It's a four o'clock games were a second, Yeah, you're right,
it is one o'clock.

Speaker 2 (56:25):
Confusing, I did, I did.

Speaker 4 (56:26):
Don't listen to me.

Speaker 6 (56:29):
Apparently I'll be there.

Speaker 2 (56:35):
Hopefully a better better time getting in than you did tonight.
But the Panthers, the Carolina Panthers count down to kickoff
three pm. The network, uh kickoff is at four or five,
and we'll be on there somewhere around the same time
tonight seven o'clock ish. So more to come here from
Bank of America Stadium. You're listening to Panthers Football presented
by Morris Jenkins.

Speaker 1 (56:53):
The Panthers postgame show continues. Please see him a by
Southern Star of Berban of the Carolina Panthers celebrate the
spirit of the Carolinas.

Speaker 2 (57:06):
We welcome you back in to Bank of America Stadium,
Panthers falling to the Falcons by a score of thirty
eight to twenty. This is the Southern Star Bourbon post
game show. As you had the big voice guy lead
us in. I am Mike Pachico, Eugene Robinson, Sharon Thorsland
alongside with you in time now for our final thoughts
as we get ready to see the Commanders next week.
But before that, let's start with our three and outs

(57:27):
and Sharon will begin with you.

Speaker 6 (57:29):
I must say that I was really impressed with the
play of the offensive line today. They have that's been
the probably the strongest suit of this team all season.
They've played really well all season. But now without two starters,
you lose Taylor Moone, you lose Austin Corbett for the season.
Those are two starters who have played a lot of football,
and we had two guys come in and just there
they didn't miss a beat. Do you have Yoshin Iman
and Brady Christians come in into me. The offense, they

(57:51):
just didn't miss a beat like that. They didn't allow
any sacks. They gave Andy Don great protection time to throw,
and then they opened up great holes for Chewba Hubbard
to get almost one hundred ard rushing again. So I
say props to the offensive line for being able to
continue with with no drop off after losing two starters.

Speaker 5 (58:07):
I think what needs to happen offensively defensively is we
got to cut down on the penalties. The penalties are
really you know, stymying this team. And you know we're
talking about you know, just being right there right there
Stuba pub articulating and the coach Cannatallys was talking about
the positive, positive things that's going on. Well, what derails

(58:28):
your team immediately as are those costly penalties And that's
what's happening on this on this team too, So that
needs to be eradicated. We need to get rid of
that immediately. And then selfishly, I got to shout out
doctor Maharaj. I know he's a faithful listener right there.
He's one of my friends, and he's a doctor. He's
always listening. So thank you for listening to our broadcast

(58:48):
because people like you make that thing things happen, so
appreciate it.

Speaker 4 (58:51):
All.

Speaker 2 (58:52):
Well, we might need a doctor, and we need a doctor.
You might need a doctor. I think with with you know,
with all these injuries, right, it becomes opportunity. And we're
seeing a lot of younger players, particularly on the defensive side,
that are being thrown into a situation. You know, Julius
Peppers isn't walking through.

Speaker 3 (59:09):
That door come out of retire right now.

Speaker 2 (59:13):
So but with with that, it presents an opportunity and
it's a chance for these guys to sharpen their skills
against some of the best in the NFL. So to
keep kind of hope alive. We've seen some hopeful things
on offense and particularly uh you know chanl and Coker
at wide receivers. Yeah, and he's very smith and he's
you know, and I don't know if he had a

(59:33):
chance to listen to Christian's interview with him on the
pregame show, I mean, he is it sounds like a
terrific young man. But he's he's got his I mean,
he's got his priority straight. And the guy that maybe
didn't have a lot of I think he on had
like four scholarship opportunities out of high school and he
and he took the the opportunity to go play at
Holy Cross, which.

Speaker 3 (59:51):
He stayed there all four years, all four years.

Speaker 2 (59:54):
And I think there was an injury his first year
and maybe didn't have had a hamsterring. I think it
going into the combine, so he didn't he had a
four or five. I mean I'd take a four five
forty myself personally, especially at my age. But no, But
you know, so I think it's a good lesson for
for guys that, you know, opportunities don't come, especially in
the NFL. This may be for some of these guys

(01:00:16):
their only opportunity to get a starting job. And I think,
you know, plays have to be made and got to
step up.

Speaker 5 (01:00:24):
Well, Dalton does not mind throwing the ball to Cocock
and just say that he does not mind at all too.
And if you everybody's trying to get you know, be
that receiver and if you don't catch the ball, then
the quarterback loses that confidence in you sure, and it's
gonna go somewhere else. And that's why people start to
emerge to become that guy, and I'll tell you what. Cokay,
you keep doing what you're doing. I'll tell you right now,

(01:00:45):
young man, you're gonna be going You're gonna be that guy.

Speaker 4 (01:00:48):
So go ahead and eat eat.

Speaker 2 (01:00:50):
Eat, go ahead and neat. Well we are gonna, uh,
we're gonna put a rap on things for this show.
And Sharon is always it's great having you back with
us here.

Speaker 6 (01:00:58):
Absolutely, it's fun. I missed you guys. I'll be back
again before the.

Speaker 4 (01:01:04):
End of the Sharons.

Speaker 3 (01:01:06):
And we call four O my son. If he's least
what are you talking about?

Speaker 7 (01:01:12):
Mom?

Speaker 3 (01:01:12):
That's my name.

Speaker 2 (01:01:15):
I got two of them, all right, So we're gonna
put a wrap on things here. Thirty eight twenty the
final here from Bank of America Stadium. We mentioned the Panthers.
We back in action on the twentieth at Northwest Stadium.
