Speaker 1 (00:00):
I was wondering with the upcoming break, uh, ahead of
training camp, is there any kind of message you'll be
delivering some players for the down time. Well, I don't
think it's at downtime. It's time away from you know,
the facility. I think it's important. It's probably the most
five important weeks of the off season as far as
(00:24):
I'm concerned, and just did my history as a as
a player and a coach, it's it's critical that they
come back in shape, that they ready, they're ready to
go for training camp, that that we're prepared as coaches
with the schedule and the installation and what we're doing,
and and the and the players have to hold up
there into the bargain to to prepare for for the
(00:46):
training camp. Those players understand that now, my uh, I
mean they will tomorrow morning. But I mean I I hope.
I mean the ones that have been successful and played
in this league. Gotta not gonna speak for ninety guys
that they know how important it is.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
I think they're focused on today.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
And we'll cover that tomorrow. Oh what does that message
different from some place will camp.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Where they're at in their career?
Speaker 1 (01:21):
You know, it is is obviously significant, But it just
how Morgan prepares and and how a younger player would
prepare is gonna be different, you know, but both are
gonna have to be, you know, ready to go, just
using those two different age groups at the same position.
And so, you know, we always tell 'em that everybody
(01:44):
will have a plan. This is maybe more for for
when we get to training camp and you'll say, well,
why so and so doing this or that everybody's gonna
have a plan. It'll be you know, different with with
as many players as we have, and my job is
to make sure that everybody's working regardless of of what.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
Plan that they're on.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
I mean, there'll be players that just do individual, there'll
be players that just do team. There'll be players that
you know, we're off on the side, conditioning or whatever
that may be.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
That's gonna change daily throughout training camp. Like, how do
you feel about your roster right now? Are there any
areas where you look at and say, man, it's a
it's a glaring spot. We could use more competition or
more than death. I think that skoit should go for
every position on a roster.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
I think that, I mean, we would always want to
do that, right I think I mean trying to always
continually make the roster more competitive and and trying to
find everybody that can continually help us, uh throughout from
now until the end of the season. I think that
that just has to go on. That has to happen.
(02:49):
Whether that does or not, I don't know. It's not
gonna keep us from looking or try to bring up
ideas or players or how we acquire players or you know,
between now and the end of the season. The reason
I asked that is there's always at this time a
prossibly the number of guys who might be in whatever
kind of contract strife or on the trade left, So
(03:10):
do not speak.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
About them specifically. Would you guys constantly be monitoring all discussions.
I think that we have to. Again, it would go
for the ability to acquire.
Speaker 1 (03:25):
Good players, good people, and I feel like I can
help us at any position.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
So you know, I don't know what those situations are throughout.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
The league, but I'm all for for trying to make
the roster better any chance that we can.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
We'll get the.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
Chance later today to speak to step On Diggs. We're
on the outside looking in. You're obviously on the inside
looking out.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Have you seen the dedications. Run it out. I'll just
stay right in here and I'm focused on it. Have
you seen the dedication from him that you hope to
when you signed it? Yeah, I'm.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
I think this goes without saying that we would love
every player to be here and during the voluntary portion
of of the offseason, right. I think that we can
all agree on that that doesn't always happen.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
For multiple reasons. But I would say that his time here.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
That that that I've been able to be around him,
and that our coaches and he's I think he's learning.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
I think he's, you know, rehabbing.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
He's one of those players that's on a different plan,
so he's going back and forth from different tempos to rehab.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
And you know, we'll be tight in there today.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
So you know, the last time we were inside, I
don't think you guys were there other than the rookies.
But the offense would run a play and then the
receivers would that were working on their own would are
kind of running and there'll be a lot of action,
and so then they don't have a defense. And but
then now the other offensive defense are to huddle and
(04:54):
then they run another play and then you'll see Jalen
and Diggs. I would imagine if that looks like it
did before. So I just go by what I see.
I think those players are all working and you know,
like I said, to have a different plan. Mike, what
have you seen from Fuchism this offseason?
Speaker 2 (05:08):
What's allowed him to have a little bit of than
a hap? I think he's a talented player.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
He has a certain skill set, He's dedicated.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
Uh, He's studied extremely hard.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
He has a good feel for what we're asking him
to do, and he's I think the biggest thing for
receivers is that there's trust, you know, from the guy
that throws the football.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
And when when you earn.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
The quarterbacks trust any one of them that we have
with any one of the three, doesn't take you long
to figure out who the quarterback trust. It's the ones
they target that's It's a good indicator.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
Like the time he's spent around Bill Campbell so far,
has this been more learning new things about him or
affirming the things he came to learn and believe during
the free draft process.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
Just trying to coach him, just trying to to help
him each in every day. You know, feel good about
the the offensive line coaches that that are working with him,
with Doug and and Haws and Koog's and I just
try to provide, you know, any input that I can
and and help and you know, just I don't think
there's anything, you know, just kind of helping him become
(06:18):
a pro and helping him, you know, acclimate himself to
this league and kind of what's gonna happen and huh,
how we need to be ready for it.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
You've seen that you both thin up there with the
classification or young quarterback in the brand.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
Well, I just just trying to be careful and and
not have any issues. And he had his shoulder procedure,
uh in the off season, and at this point in time,
I just really would just like to get the training camp,
and I think we've kind of figured out how to
practice and early on, I mean you can clearly see
that there's different speeds and how we practice, uh, and
(06:58):
and early on maybe that jog through probably you know,
a little faster than what it needed it to be.
And so I just wanted to be careful that you know,
they can let him get his looks and operate and function,
but just be mindful that you know, this player's working
with something, and that'll be the case throughout the season.
(07:20):
That'll be you know, players that are trying to get
ready for the game that you know we'll have those
on and it's just a acknowledgement that we all kind
of have to work together to achieve a goal. Like
I think we asked you a few weeks ago, how
much you care about like when a player.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
Throws interceptions in practice?
Speaker 1 (07:38):
How much do you care when a player like Kyle
Williams goes up and catches a fifty yard bomb over
two defenders and practices.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
For the I mean, I think you have to be
able to yah, you know, hit those down the field.
Those are you.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
Only get so many chances that at those contested catches
down the field. I appreciate the dbs for the most part.
You know, again they kind of have to give way,
uh in the spring. But any chance that you can
get completing those not on air with defenders around, and
you know, I think that that's that's always good there
(08:18):
on that one where I think that there's a lot
of times that we could sit here and say to
rush you guys, track sacks, whatever you wanna do. There's
they're rushing three steps, four steps, try to pull off
take care of the quarterback. Like it depends who you
ask Mike. He asked the defense. Every plays a sack,
that's the offense. Every plays a not a sack. So
(08:39):
just depends on who you ask, Micha.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
Going back to it's a real how do you get you.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Mentioned how and out the pats can remember, I think
there's a certain things the kid too. How do you
gauge where it's at this progress or just understanding the
protection the sets, the on the man's side, on my
on his own side, Do I have a you know,
a sword or any of those terminologies that they have.
How they're they're blocking the games and you know we're it.
(09:06):
It's been good work cause our defense has been able
to do a lot of this stuff and still take
care of the guys and not you know, if we're
picking or we're running games, you know, do it in
a in a sensible manner that takes care of everybody. So,
got a lot of looks and got a lot of
pas sets and different communications, and we'll work on a
(09:27):
silent cadence today at times on the some of those
second and long and third down opportunities. So we know
we're gonna have to be going the road at some
point obviously during the regular season, and uh function and
in crowd noise.
Speaker 2 (09:42):
So we'll get that again today. Account that's doing that
would help, providing a tangline any context of.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
Doing doing doing well and I and then he'll you know,
he'll be here soon and excited about that. So I
think everybody's uh looking forward to that.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
Like I think we've primarily seen marginvolved in the live
dictor so far. Is that ever any vision of him
playing in his defense?
Speaker 1 (10:09):
We wouldn't wanna waste anybody's time, so accept yours, but uh,
I I just try to find some versatility for him.
Uh it's got a unique skill set. He's got some
good size, good length, He's a good blitzer. So I
just kind of thought that that could you know, that
could help him and and I'll and obviously try to
(10:30):
help us. Might be uh the officialty to announce for
Bill purself and Julian Attleman's policy induction ninety's curious your
thoughts on them and what they meant to this franchise,
this organization. Well, I mean coach Parcels is super Bowl
winning coach. You know my conversations with him are just
(10:51):
about people when getting to know people. You know, he
gave me great advice is sometimes you have to get
out of this building. You have to you know, go
for a drive, you gotta go f go to lunch,
or do something outside of here, uh, which really resonated
uh with me, you know, just always uh did He
had different relationships with with most all his players somewhere different,
(11:13):
you know, different personalities. Meant he had to kind of
take on, uh, a different personality himself and clearly got
the most out of his players and and how he
coached him, managed them and prepared them. You know, Jules
is just to you know, ultimate grinder and competitor and
taking advantage of opportunities and continuing to get better and
(11:34):
playing his best and in the biggest games, in the
biggest stages. And yeah, just great representation of of this organization.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
Like that advice from coach Parcels as this I'll make
he gave you recently or earlier in your group, Uh,
probably earlier, Like what are you gonna do the next
five weeks? Waterpots?
Speaker 1 (11:57):
Probably do a little bit of football, do a little
bit of golf, do a little bit of relaxing, looking
forward to it, or yeah, I think so.
Speaker 2 (12:07):
I think it takes them.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
You know, it's you know, the last ten days, you
get a little cranky cause you kind of get used,
you're ready to go to training camp. You know, you
get a little cranky because you're just as a player,
you're you know, thinking about starting training camp. And that's
kind of carried through.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
You talked about analytics yesterday. I just wanted to ask
about one specific part of which was the hiring of
an a ken Olkonma from the forty nine ers. What
do you envision in his role and how do you
hope he can help you? And we'll add a couple
other people there, but I think that just.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
You know, having somebody that's dedicated, that's been in that role,
that can can manage the the people that we have
here or did a fantastic job in his interview process
and meeting with all the different groups that we feel
like he's going to be able to work with. He
played football, not that that's a prerequisite, but there's you know,
you have to have ability to not only take these
(13:03):
numbers and pull them out of wherever they pull them
out of. I'm not gonna pretend that I know, but
also have some application to it and be able to
explain it to the coaches and say, you know, we
can know how much is too much, probably need more,
or however we can make our jobs more efficient and better.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
Is something that I'm excited about. We're all excited about
him doing. So. It'll be more like working with the
coaches as opposed to.
Speaker 1 (13:27):
On your headsets and go for it here or whatever. Yeah,
I mean that's that'll be Stretch and Eye. You know,
I mean that that's a pretty proven system. But I
would say that he would be involved. That would be
one area that he would help us and help me
and Stretch specifically outside of the let's say the game
planning or a self scout or the opponent's you know,
(13:52):
pre advanced report or anything that they may do. He
would then, you know, we'd carve out some time for
for him and I and Stretch based on who we're playing,
our rest of we need to be what are the
field conditions, what are the the win what are the
game conditions? That that would all be part of what
he would do. But I would imagine that the communication,
(14:13):
uh would still stay between.
Speaker 2 (14:16):
Stretching Eye, not that he wouldn't communicate with him throughout
the game. And you guys last like you're obviously preparing
for your first training camp after this in the midst
of the first mining campus in the process and context
of building the program, Uh, looking ahead new training facility,
football facili community build. Have you been able to kind
(14:38):
of put your stamp uncertain aspect to that? How important
is that to your vision?
Speaker 1 (14:43):
Well, I think it's a you know, we're excited about
getting in there. I think it's gonna be an unbelievable
place to work. Uh, first class facility.
Speaker 2 (14:51):
Uh that will give us everything that we need and
and and then some. So we're excited about that.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
And yet we've been able to you know, communicate and
get get what we feel like and have conversations just
to try to get it right.
Speaker 2 (15:03):
Go ahead, I know you've been waiting.
Speaker 1 (15:05):
Yesterday, it seems like Drake was holding onto the ball
but also avoided throwing into bad looks. So I was curious,
how did you feel that the offense did with the
red zone execution and where would you like to see
them improved today? Well, if you look at the majority
of the red zone plays in this league that are
passes it's usually one two, see you later, right, or
or it's a sack. But there were you know some
(15:27):
you know, I mean just maybe there was a few,
you know, three man rushes. Where again, if we feel
like those are instances where you can sit and progress
that you can I know that there were maybe you
know a couple of those. But but again I'm I'm
with you. I'm coaching them up to say, hey, we've
got to go somewhere. We gotta one two, And that's
(15:51):
what these turn into in the red zone. If you
if you watch every red zone snap in the league,
that's about what the majority of them do. If you
if you get pastor your first hitch. So I think
that'll kind of continue to progress when we get down
there and st just making sure that the timing is
there and sometimes it's not.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
And then we're gonna have to.
Speaker 1 (16:11):
Be really good on both sides of the ball with
the play extension being where we need to be and
then the defense kind of executing what they have to
do as well on those play extension in the red zone.
