Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's good to be back. It's good to be back.
We were excited.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
My family and I we loved it here the last
three years. Uh, and to to to be able to
stay here, it's exactly what we wanted. Have some stability
for my kids is huge. That's a that's a big
deal for us.

Speaker 3 (00:18):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
They were excited. Uh, you know getting the band back together.
We got a good group. I mean, that's uh, that's
one of the reason why we want to be back.
Those guys are special talents, special guys, special families. You know,
they've got a great family and and they've kind of
taken my family in with them. Got to spend some
time with them at the Pro Bowl a couple of

(00:40):
weeks ago, and.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
It's just a it's a good group. Uh.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
To bring those guys back, you know, with us Luke
Thompson and my assistants able to come back as well, Uh,
it's just a it's a I tell them all the time,
not only those three guys, but the rest of the group. Uh,
we wouldn't be back if they didn't play as well
as they did.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
So they're a huge part of it.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
The way they played every single day, that's why we're here,
so they were excited.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
It's it's it's great for everybody you mentioned.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
Coming back as well.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
What kind of impact could that just continue? I mean continuity.
The guys love him.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
You know, he works with the gunners outside, he works
field goal block. You know, we blocked two kicks last year.
Was a big part of what we were doing. Our
gunners played fantastic. So he does a really good job,
you know, across the board. The guys love him. So
he again just bringing everybody back together. We did a
good job, you know, and we got to continue to
get better. That's the best part is you know, uh,

(01:38):
you know, cam Be in a second year, so things
are going to change a little bit for him, but
that's part of the progression. We'll keep working with him.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
You know, Ross and Logan, they got to stay at
that level. That's the standard, you know, pro Bowl level.
Let's keep it that way and keep growing everybody else.
And I think that's the that's the beauty. We've got
good continuity, but let's keep getting better with it.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
What are your part as a lamb and just getting numbs.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
The great energy, I mean, that's what you're gonna see. Uh,
you know, when you ever you talk to him, it's
always good energy. You know, he's young, energetic, and he's
gonna tell you how he feels, which I think is
a great quality. I mean, uh, you know him and
I have hit it off, you know, you know really well.
And the staff he's brought together, great energy, young young guys, uh,

(02:23):
and some of the cool stuff to camaraderie. I think
stuff that we're gonna do of getting together for some dinners,
you know, at the combine and some of those things.
That's really what's gonna bring the staff together. That's what
it's gonna take. It's gonna take bringing all this staff
together from different places, getting him ready to go.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
The player is gonna show up.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
And and and in in in a no time at all.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
So we got to get all on the same page.
Outside of your kicker, punter, long snapper.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
How many guys would you do you feel like you
may need one or two more more guys or do
you think what you have is enough to have the
kind of special teams coverage get all that stuff that
you want.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
My guys were great last year, and and if and
if everything stayed the same, fantastic, But the reality of
special teams Uh, you know, it obviously comes all the
way down and a lot of times it ends up
being the back half of the roster. So that's something, uh,
you know, with Liam general manager, we're gonna have to
all come together, uh and figure out what is the

(03:27):
best formula to win. And so the reality is we
may lose a guy guy or two. Hey guess what
next guy up. Maybe it's a draft pick, maybe it's
a practice squad guy. That's part of my job and
Luke Thompson's job of how can we get the most
out of the roster and we're elevating these guys play.
So every year, the cliche is the roster changes every year,

(03:51):
especially on special teams. We're gonna have to bring up
some young guys. We're gonna lose a player or two
because of a free agency or whatever. That looks like
we're gonna have develop more players and we're gonna do that.
And whether it's a rookie or a practice squad guy,
young player, let's get the most out of them. So
Doug was they parted ways with Doug on January sixth,
and then two weeks later or something like that made

(04:13):
Ira Liam, how long would you say you were kind
of in limbo about you know, you wanted to stay here,
but you also have to, you know, get something else
lined up in case that doesn't happen.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
Though, So how long was the limbo like ten.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
Days or we were right in that, you know, in
that area. And the best part about it from day one,
you know, the cons the organization made it very clear
they wanted me here, and that was a big part
of where we were going forward. And so I had
that going I did get some interest, but ultimately we

(04:49):
wanted to be here. The organization wanted us here, and
so it was it was a clear cut deal for
my family and I this was the best situation. Blend
in with this new crowd of staff and and and
and make the best of it here and let's get
let's let's do this. Let's let's figure out a way
to win. Obviously I didnt Beselli, you will be a

(05:09):
huge part of that. You know, Tony is you know,
a good friend of mine. I think those I think
those are what's gonna take tough for us to win.
So those are all big factors on why we wanted
to be here. But but it started with the cons.
I think that's the biggest thing.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
You know, mister Kahn, Tony, they they obviously wanted us here,
which is I don't know if there's a better person
that you'd want to want to have you in your corner.

Speaker 3 (05:31):
Did you talk a little bit about what you think
Tony's meaning the selling will bring the organization.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
I mean, he's been around it forever, obviously Hall of famer.
What he's done for this uh, you know, for this team.

Speaker 3 (05:42):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
And and then of course the city. It means so
much to him. And when you when you talk to him,
I've never seen him so excited about something about just
this project of the challenge of getting us to be
a winner. And every time I talk to him, he says,
we're gonna get this thing roll. And you can just
feel his excitement.

Speaker 3 (05:58):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (05:59):
And that's what That's what we need.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
We need that good juice, that good energy of where
this is going, where this is headed. You know, we
got the right guys in place, Let's get it roll.
And I think that's a great message of like this
is where it starts right here, and let's get it
to let's get it to a winner. But nobody's more
passionate about this organization than Tony Boselli.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
It's the years over. What did you look at in
terms of the new kickoff or what did you like
either the no? I mean, what would be your recommendation
going forward with.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
I mean, you know, it'll be interesting to see if
we make any changes to it. I think we'll learn
more at the combine. That's kind of we get together
and kind of go through some of the possibilities. The
average drive start was over twenty nine yards. Touch back
was the thirty yard line, So that's kind of one
of those things we got to look at and how's
that effect? You know, drive start and all that, and

(06:52):
I think we got to get better and I can
we learned a ton throughout the season, But that's the
biggest project for probably all special teams coaches, taking a
look at what we did, what the top groups did
on kickoff and kickoff return, What did they do, What
do we do and how can we get better at it?
What are they doing that we weren't doing. I got

(07:12):
to do a big study on That's that's my biggest
projects this offseason. How can we get better to make
sure it's number one kickoff kickoff return group next season?

Speaker 3 (07:23):
Would you like or to stay the same or change
or what would your recommendation be? At the league was like, Hey,
what do you guys want to do?

Speaker 2 (07:29):
I mean, I think the biggest thing is that that
twenty nine point you know, I think it's twenty nine
point six drive start. I think that's the biggest thing.
Is how do we fix that. There's a couple of
different ways to look at it. Do you move the
kicker back to the thirty yard line, make it tougher
to kick touchbacks, or do you put the touch backs
to the thirty five I think those are probably the
two possibilities. And moving it back to the thirty yard

(07:51):
that would be great. I think that'd be a great challenge.
It would up the value to a kicker, and it
makes the importance of having a good kicker so valuable.
That I think is uh it's a big part of
the game, the kicker position, whether it's you see in
the playoffs with the big field goals and then also
the kickoff aspect. That's a huge portion of the game.

(08:12):
And I think that's a that's an important, UH specific
quality that if a kicker, if a specialist has it's
a it's a it's a good thing, thank you, thank
you guys, thank
