Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're listening to the Seahawks insiders.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
Gino looks golaying up over the top. Count of man out.
Speaker 1 (00:05):
There, it is he's got a touchdown. Seyhawks getting you
ready for Seahawks football. Every Sunday, Ertz drops back, has time,
loads up, throws aj Brown the defense step does he
keep it speed him?
Speaker 3 (00:20):
He does?
Speaker 1 (00:22):
Stay off ball presented by Delta, the official airline of
the Seahawks. Now here's your host, Jen Mueller.
Speaker 4 (00:29):
Your Seattle Seahawks are three n O.
Speaker 5 (00:31):
They are one of five teams in the NFL who
can say that they have taken care of business each
and every week.
Speaker 4 (00:37):
But this week it is going to be a very
different task.
Speaker 5 (00:41):
Hello everyone, Jen Mueller alongside John Boyle from Seahawks dot Com. Hi, Jen, Hi,
And I think the Seahawks have proven things. I also
think outside the building they want a little bit more
proof that this team is what the record suggests.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
This team is exactly as you said.
Speaker 6 (00:59):
There don't have only a handful five to three to
oh teams in the league. That is a great accomplishment.
And it doesn't matter who you beaten this league. Wins
all count the same. There's no style points, and that's
going to help you in the standings down the road.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
But to your point, a lot of people are.
Speaker 6 (01:12):
Looking at who have they beaten, what offenses, what quarterbacks
have they played? So that's why I think a lot
of people are really excited about Monday Night's game of
like this is another level of offensive challenge that they
have not seen yet.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
Well.
Speaker 5 (01:24):
I am really excited about the game because I think
it does post some intriguing matchups, especially when you look
at the health of either side of things. Here was
my response when somebody mentioned the same sort of thing
to me that you were just talking about.
Speaker 4 (01:37):
Who have the Seahawks played?
Speaker 5 (01:38):
Why would you say that this team is a legit
undefeated team. I would say, from my perspective on the sidelines,
in each game, there has been an opportunity to completely
go downhill, like there has been an opportunity for there
to be finger pointing or for things to get out
of controller, for emotions to take over.
Speaker 4 (01:56):
And every single.
Speaker 5 (01:57):
Time, as DK Metcalf has said, from week TIS, they
have come together, they have gotten stronger, the play callers
have made the adjustments, the team has executed. I don't
look you're right, you have not faced a quarterback like
Jared Goff, you haven't faced a running attack like what
you're gonna face on Monday night.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
But I think that some of those.
Speaker 5 (02:17):
Things that are a little bit more nuanced have gone overlooked.
Speaker 6 (02:21):
For sure, and they haven't like Mike McDonald this my Monday,
they have not played anything close to their best football yet,
and they STI went out and won by three times.
To win a game by three touchdowns with two turnovers
and eleven penalties, Like, I don't care who you're playing against,
you're doing a lot of things well if you can
overcome all that and win by that kind of margin.
So I'm really excited to see what it looks like
(02:42):
when they go against some more talented offense. But I
also have a ton of confidence in what this team
can do when the stakes are at higher.
Speaker 5 (02:48):
Well, when I was talking to Dreymont Jones after the
game and I was trying to figure out which number
was most impressive, it was like three.
Speaker 4 (02:54):
We gave up three points. That's really hard to do.
I don't care who's the quarterback.
Speaker 6 (03:00):
Three points only came because of a turnover at the
six yard line. Like, they didn't give up a single
point that required any sort of drive at all.
Speaker 5 (03:06):
Yeah, And you know what I found interesting in listening
to Rayshawn Jenkins, who, by the way, I was looking
for after the game because he's had a heck of
a three games. The tackle numbers he is right on top.
I could not find him after the game. I think
he snuck out of there quickly to go celebrate with family,
which he is absolutely entitled to do.
Speaker 4 (03:24):
He did speak to.
Speaker 5 (03:25):
The media at the podium this week, and John, here's
what I found most interesting. We keep talking about how
we don't know what this defense looks like, and we
don't know what the next iteration is. When you hear
Rayshan talk about his introduction to Mike McDonald, he didn't
know what this was gonna look like either.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
And when I first got in, it wasn't like too
clear to me. I mean, I kind of understood everything,
but I really had to dive into like, Okay, why
is he calling this, Why does he want, you know,
the safeties to play this way? Why do he want
the underneath covers to play this way? And then it
just starts clicking as you start seeing like real opponents
because he really attacking how they run their scheme. It's
(04:03):
not just hey, okay, you're a curve flat player drop here. No,
it's hey, if you're a curve flat player attached to
here and then you know you have a progression, I'll
just say that, And I mean it's been really helpful,
and I mean it shows not only you know at
you know my position, but everybody else is on the defense.
Speaker 6 (04:25):
The why really matters to players like you can just say, hey,
here's how we do things. But if they're not fully
understanding why do you want to do this, especially if
it's something new to them, it might be hard to
get the buy in. And one of the things we've heard,
you know, going back to training camp about Mike McDonald,
the thing you want to hear is just how smart
he is, what genius is. But the other part of
that that maybe isn't is hit upon, but it is
(04:46):
equally important is he teaches it well so it's digestible,
because like, you can be the biggest genius in the world,
but if people aren't getting what you're teaching, it doesn't matter.
And he makes it digestible for them and he makes
him understand, Okay, here's why we're doing this if X
Y and that we're going to do this way and
now that players get to see it in action, se'd
actually work in games.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
That's just going to send the confidence through the roof.
Speaker 4 (05:08):
Yeah, just note to all leaders.
Speaker 5 (05:09):
Buy in requires the why and it also requires clear communication.
And that is what you were seeing across the board
with Mike McDonald, and I would say with this staff,
because we have gone back to just the teaching aspect
of everything and the discipline that it takes to do this. Again,
when people ask what's the difference between the last few
years and this year, I say that you've got an
(05:31):
entire group that is used to coaching and they want
to coach up their techniques, their schemes and hit the fundamentals.
I think that was a little bit I don't know, surprised,
but intrigued how Mike McDonald was talking about the emphasis
on fundamentals.
Speaker 7 (05:46):
You know, we talked about as a team this morning
about emphasis of the week and really move and ask everybody,
but the consistent feedback is our consistent focus on the
fundamentals and our execution on the details. How that goes
across all three phases. I think it's mentality that you
have to have throughout the week. Put the work in
execute those things. It's how we prepare as coaches and
(06:07):
the situations that we put our players in, so we
can if we anticipate those situations correctly, we can give
the guys the correct looks. So now you might have
some some redundancy in that when the game hits. So
we take a lot of pride in trying to create
those situations for our guys, and then it's our guys responsibility.
You know, we go out to the practice field just
finishing walk through, having the mentality Okay, I'm recognized as
(06:29):
a situation. Now i can apply my rule. Now I
can play faster.
Speaker 6 (06:32):
I really like that notion of like if we provide
the guys right looks, It's like that's really where the
coaching we hear people talk about, you know, the coaching
versus the execution, and that's where it's really married together.
Of if we get you fundamentally right, as you said,
and they get an extra day to do that. By
the way, this week with a Monday game, they're getting
extra day in. But we get the fundamental side right,
and then we teach you, Okay, here's what it might
(06:54):
look like, and here's how we're going to respond, then
players can go out and ultimately on Sunday, except for
the players to execute it. But this is the time
of the week where the coaches can really get these
players ready for.
Speaker 5 (07:02):
It, and they will need to be really good at
recognizing what Detroit is doing because one of the things
that Mike McDonald said was they do a great job
of disguising the offense. And I don't think it's any
secret that they want to run the ball. I also
know it's no secret that those two guys that they
have that one to two punch, David Montgomery and Jamier Gibbs,
(07:23):
like there's nobody else in the lead that compares to that,
which is evidenced by some of the crazy numbers like
high level. They are a top five offense. They are
top five when it comes to total offense. They are
top five when it comes to rushing offense. They also
allow among the fewest sacks. They are up there when
it comes to third down percentage and first downs gained.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
Yeah, I mean they do darn near everything well.
Speaker 1 (07:46):
They do.
Speaker 5 (07:47):
And both of those guys, Gibbs and Montgomery, have gone
over seventy yards from scrimmage in each of the first
three games.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
That's pretty good.
Speaker 4 (07:57):
That's pretty good. You want to know what else is crazy?
Speaker 1 (08:00):
I do?
Speaker 5 (08:00):
That all feeds into like it's not just about stopping
the run game. Oh yeah, right, because the minute that
run game starts to get going, now you have some playmakers.
And they've got four guys john that have gone over
two hundred yards from scrimmage this year.
Speaker 4 (08:15):
You've got two wide receivers, two running backs.
Speaker 5 (08:17):
They're the only team in the league who's got a
group of skill players that is putting up those.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
Kind of numbers.
Speaker 6 (08:23):
Yeah, and they'll get you a play action when they
get that running game going. They're really deadly with the
play action. The receivers can stretch the field. They've got
a really good tight end. He's banged up to waft
away and see if he plays. But yeah, I mean
this offense full of weapons, a veteran quarterback who knows
how to execute it in a really good scheme that
you know, Ben Johnson was kind of the offensive version
of Mike McDonald last year, the hot candidate. He ended
up sticking around there, but you know, head coaching candidate
(08:45):
because what he's doing with that offense. So there is
a lot to really like about that offense if you're
a Lions fan, and a lot to be concerned about
if you're playing against them.
Speaker 5 (08:52):
Well, and Mike McDonald has faced them recently, the Seahawks
have also faced the Lions. Both teams have had success.
Not that that is necessarily matters going into Sunday. Here's
what does matter, as Mike McDonald kind of reviews what
he expects to see from that offense on Monday.
Speaker 7 (09:09):
Golf's playing fast, making fast decisions, getting the ball out
of his hands to his playmakers. Both runners are really
really dangerous in their own way. Offensive line is probably
one of the best in the league, if not.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
The best, So got to work it out for us.
Speaker 7 (09:23):
But you know, we get an extra day to get
ready to go defensively, very aggressive. It seems like they
made a little bit more a shift from last year.
I'd say there's a there's a there's a tough simplicity
with compliments on how they operate defensively, and obviously Aiden
is a is a really good player that we're gonna
have to account for.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
I like tough simplicity. I like that something elegant.
Speaker 4 (09:45):
Elegant simplicity. Yes, and now we have tough simplicity.
Speaker 6 (09:48):
Yeah, and that's I think, and that goes back to
the point he made. We just talked about all the weapons,
but that might be the best offensive line in football,
and that's where the toughness starts there, and you know
there's again there's a lot to like that offense.
Speaker 5 (10:00):
Now they are dealing with some injuries. In fact, they
have already ruled out veteran center Frank Ragnow he is
not going to be playing on Monday. That's a big
loss because you start thinking about how much football he's seen.
I can only imagine how much of a help he
would be to Jared Goff in diagnosing what the Seahawks
are doing. So he is out of the mix. Seahawks
have some question marks too. Across defensive line. There's some
(10:23):
good question marks Lake is Uchenna Nuosu ready to go.
There's also some question marks around injuries that we saw
on Sunday till Leonard Williams and to Byron Murphy. Before
we even try to guess, in.
Speaker 4 (10:36):
Fact, I'm not even gonna make you guess.
Speaker 5 (10:38):
What gives you confidence that there is depth and experience
that can fill in for two huge playmakers.
Speaker 4 (10:45):
I don't need a one for one. I just need
I need the collective group to be able to step up.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
I mean for starters.
Speaker 6 (10:50):
We saw him do it for three quarters of a
game last week when you didn't have the option of
like a guy like Miles Adams. He's been a really
good player, but just gets caught up in the numbers
game and he's an act last week.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
If those guys aren't able.
Speaker 6 (11:02):
To go, we're talking about Leonard Williams, Byron Murphy, then
you know you have Miles of Adams active you Maybe
you got some guys you can look at it on
the practice squad. They just brought back Matt Gotell, who
had a really nice camp before he hurt his ankle.
But yeah, just overall depth and positional flexibility these guys.
It's not necessarily one for one of Oh you lose
Leonard Williams, you need that exact player, like a guy
like Draymont Jones has been playing a lot on the edge.
(11:24):
But if you chanted to most who is back. We
don't know that yet, but he did suit up for
practice yesterday. If he's back, a guy like Draymond Jones
can slide inside, maybe take up some of those interior snaps.
Speaker 2 (11:33):
So they're pretty deep up front. They like that about him.
Speaker 6 (11:35):
But sure, if you're missing those two guys, you know,
those are hard guys replaced.
Speaker 2 (11:39):
You'll miss him.
Speaker 5 (11:39):
You know what I do like though, And part of
this is you still have to be able to stop
the run. And you got to be able to stop
the run in the first in the second quarter. Right
if they end up getting some yards at the end
of the game, I'm fine with that.
Speaker 4 (11:50):
You cannot let the offense get.
Speaker 5 (11:52):
Rolling, said in that tone, and Mike McDonald said, look,
when he was with Baltimore last year, they got some
critical third down stops that really changed the course of
the game the first half. I would also say this,
the Lions like to throw the ball a little bit
more than we've seen two of the three opponents, and
last week the ball just wasn't going downfield very much
because of any number of different factors if you put
(12:14):
the ball in the air. I really like the chance
for playmakers to make plays in the back end of
the season, for.
Speaker 6 (12:21):
Sure, and they haven't gotten a lot of those chances
because I mean, Denver threw it a lot, but it
was a lot of short, checkdown stuff. So most of the
plays of corners were making were just shirt tackles near
the lion of scrimmage. New England basically just wanted to
run the ball or check it down to a tight end.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
And then last week Miami.
Speaker 6 (12:38):
Just they didn't function very well on offense and they
couldn't get the all passing him going and a big
part of that. I asked Mike McDonald about this yesterday
with Reek Wollen, because I feel like we're kind of
overlooking a quiet, phenomenal season Rereek Wallen's having so far.
I forget who, I wish I could give them credit,
but somebody did a cut up of like all of
Reek Wallen snaps put it on Twitter against Jalen Waddle
and Tree Hill, and like he's just all over everything
(13:01):
and he's just.
Speaker 2 (13:02):
Playing so well.
Speaker 6 (13:03):
But the ball we're not seen in the stat sheet,
you don't notice it when you're watching on TV because
the ball's not coming his way. But those guys have
been shutting things down.
Speaker 5 (13:09):
But weren't you talking to Rachel Jenkins about this this
week and asking like, how do you know if Reek's
having a good year? And he said, well, essentially, every
time you look up, he's right there. Yeah, Like his
guy isn't going anywhere without him.
Speaker 6 (13:21):
Yeah, yeah, And I mean Spoon Trey Brown are doing
the same thing. So it's just those three guys are
all playing at such a high level and we haven't
really been able to celebrate it like we should because
the ball hasn't come their way yet. And I think
this could be a game where they get tested little
more and it's going to be fun to see them
show what they can do well. Two of the three
guys I just mentioned have had pick six's in Detroit
in the last two seasons.
Speaker 5 (13:42):
Well, I mean we've played the Lions for four straight years.
This will be the third straight time.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
It's the new Carolina.
Speaker 4 (13:47):
It's the new Carolina, right is the new Carolina? Yeah?
I don't know which is.
Speaker 5 (13:53):
The shorter trip necessarily or which I prefer. Those fans
in Detroit are legit.
Speaker 7 (14:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
That came last year their home opener.
Speaker 6 (14:03):
That was a comment that the Cheeth sent on the
road and in their home for the opener, they were allied.
Speaker 5 (14:08):
That was pretty awesome. It's a long walk from the
locker room to the field, though, so that I mean
you get a lot of steps in so hard, you
get a lot of steps in before you even start
the day. I tell you what, before I go down
that little side road that nobody needs to be taken
down today, how about if we pause for a word
from our presenting sponsor.
Speaker 1 (14:26):
Statistically, the world is losing color. Just consider all white kitchens,
beige baby nurseries, a sea of gray cars. But in
the hundreds of destinations Delta flies to, you can rediscover
color in the bright blue waters of Hawaii, the emerald
green hills of Scotland, the very pink cherry blossoms of Tokyo,
and so much more. Sometimes opening your world is all
(14:48):
it takes to open your mind, which is why when
you fly Delta, your potential takes off. When you do
Delta Official airline of the Seattle Seahawks.
Speaker 5 (14:58):
There are some really interesting numbers, and give credit to
the Detroit Lions their pr staff putting these all in
the game notes, because I don't know that I would
have ever thought about this. I don't know that I
even believe these numbers. However, they're just making stuff on.
Speaker 4 (15:12):
Their offensive side of that.
Speaker 5 (15:13):
I'm just gonna take them at their word on their
offensive side of things. Did you realize that the Lions
are one of four teams to not register a dropped
past this season.
Speaker 2 (15:24):
Wow, I did not know that.
Speaker 4 (15:25):
Well, there you go.
Speaker 5 (15:27):
Did you realize that Detroit has gone twenty two straight
games without giving up seventy rushing yards to a running
back twenty two straight games?
Speaker 6 (15:38):
That is an amazing stat And I did realize that,
but only because you told me right before we went
on air.
Speaker 4 (15:44):
But yeah, that's well, you could have pretended to be
far more, you know.
Speaker 6 (15:46):
And I just like to let people know how the
sausage is made and give up the secrets.
Speaker 4 (15:52):
Really, that's the secret that we were keeping from people.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
A phrase.
Speaker 5 (15:56):
Okay, well it is a phrase. I don't know that
that is the making of the sausage. We'll come up
with much better.
Speaker 4 (16:03):
Here's another number that came up.
Speaker 5 (16:06):
So PFF Pro Football Focus has a new stat that
they've created.
Speaker 4 (16:11):
It's called lockdown percentage.
Speaker 5 (16:12):
Have you seen this?
Speaker 2 (16:13):
I have not.
Speaker 5 (16:14):
Okay, So lockdown percentage essentially rates the guys in coverage
and how much space they give the wide receiver to
make a play. Okay, Now, if you are giving the
wide receiver cushion on purpose, that doesn't count.
Speaker 4 (16:28):
They're only counting man and man's I got to dig into.
Speaker 2 (16:32):
This a little bit more.
Speaker 5 (16:33):
Okay, we're just going with then, We're just going with
it because it's another one of those numbers. The Lions
coverage team was at their best last week. They completed
Arizona completed just sixty one percent of their passes, They
averaged a six point one yards in attempt, and Kyler
Murray had a seventy six point five passer rating. It
(16:53):
is significant because Arizona was coming off a game in
which Kyler Murray was practically perfect that regard. So when
you look at the Lions defense, where.
Speaker 4 (17:07):
Does Seattle need to win the battle?
Speaker 2 (17:11):
Boy?
Speaker 6 (17:11):
I mean, you always want to say it starts with
the run game and starts up front, and.
Speaker 2 (17:15):
You want to get that going what you do.
Speaker 6 (17:16):
But they've went and won there twice in a row
because Gino Smith has just played his butt off and
they're getting the ball moving through the air. So I think,
you know, you want to run the ball. And if
they get Ken Walker back, that would be a big help.
We don't know his status yet, but there was optimism
late last week that he could be back for this game.
But even if they can't run it well, we've seen
(17:36):
how well Gino Smith has played in that building against you.
Speaker 2 (17:39):
Know, different some different players.
Speaker 6 (17:41):
It's a different team, but a lot of the same
personnel and some similar stuff they're doing.
Speaker 5 (17:45):
And Aiden Hutchinson's name was mentioned earlier in one of
our soundbites six and a half sacks for him this
year conclusively wore and a half and half in one
come in Week two against Tampa. Now, I haven't studied
Tampa's offensive line to know what was going on. I
will say the Gino Smith only got sacked one time
last year, and if.
Speaker 6 (18:05):
You recall, that was a crazy I went back and
found that because I was like seventeen yard sack. He
was running around his third and forever and he's trying
to escape pressure and unfortunately made a bad decision and
ran a little too long and got tackled for a
huge loss. But yeah, Aiden Hudginson had two tackles I think,
no quarterback hits and that was coming off the Sax
lost both their tackles on thee.
Speaker 5 (18:24):
I was just about to say, and there was some
personnel changes and so you kind of go in going, man,
what are we going to experience that?
Speaker 4 (18:32):
That was a heck of a game from Stone Forsyth
and I think Jake Curry.
Speaker 6 (18:35):
Yeah, Forsyth was on the left side for that game.
He'll be it right tackled this week. But that was
a few of us caught up with Stone yesterday talk
about that, Like that game I think definitely gave him
some confidence of like, hey, this is a loud environment.
I mean, that was the starling on of that game
was like, oh this sex have no chance against that.
They lost both their tackles. They're not gonna be able
to function as an offense. It's going to be so
(18:55):
loud there, which it was. Again, their fans are awesome.
They're loud as heck, But those two guys held up
well enough and they schemed it up very well. The
Seahawks did to make sure the ball was coming out quickly.
And you know, that'll be great for Stone to have
that experience in his back pocket and just what he's
done this year too, he's you know, it was a
little rough for you know, anytime you come into a
game because of injury, for alignment, that's tough. In that
(19:17):
first week, he had a few hiccups, but the last
two games he's gotten increasingly better. He played really well
this past game, and he'll need all that confidence and
all that because if you look at where in Hutchinson's
getting those sacks that four and a half SAT game,
he was lined up on the right tackle for every
one of them. So Stone's gonna have his short cut
out for him, but he's feeling confident.
Speaker 5 (19:36):
Yeah, here's who else I think might have gotten a
confidence boost.
Speaker 4 (19:40):
I think Zach Sharpening after last freek.
Speaker 5 (19:43):
I got to say, you know, watching the expression and
the frustration there was, I'm gonna stop short of saying consternation,
but certainly the way Miami was stopping the run early,
it was not ideal for the Seahawks, in fact, and
Gino called the offense together in the third quarter. He said, look,
(20:03):
we've got to get back to running the ball. And
then they proceeded to come out and I think they
threw the ball seven straight times. Now, they were removing
the ball down the field and it's totally fine, but
for the ball to be in Zach's hands at the
end of that game, well, I think that it's a
confidence boost for him. And it's certainly the way Mike
McDonald wants to play football.
Speaker 7 (20:22):
We're focusing on finishing games and closing him out, and
Zach does a great job of doing that. Based off
his physicality, I think it speaks to the shape that
he's in and his mental toughness that he has as well,
so he should be an asset for us later in games.
Speaker 6 (20:36):
The term we heard a couple of players use after
the game, they said, the wrong game is it's they
got this from Mike.
Speaker 2 (20:41):
It's a softening process.
Speaker 6 (20:43):
You might not come out of the gate running the
ball well, but if you keep hitting teams, especially with
a physical back like Charbonney, you wear them down a
little bit. In that last drive, they went ninety eight
yards and first play of the drive he only gets
three yards, but three yards from your two yard line
is an important run. Next, carrying that drive, he converged
third and one, and then he finished the drive thirteen
yard run, eleven yard run, ten yard touchdown and like boom.
Speaker 2 (21:04):
All of a sudden.
Speaker 6 (21:04):
Statistically, he's having a great game, and more importantly, he
put that game away for the Seahawks. So it's really
good for him to be able to show and for
the offense to know, like, yeah, we want Ken Walker back.
We'd love to have him out there this week. But
if he can't go. You got a really good back
in Zach Sharbron as well.
Speaker 4 (21:19):
And because of the way he finished.
Speaker 5 (21:21):
You saw Kenny McIntosh on the field for a few
snaps and I think his final numbers were like eleven yards.
But again for him, a guy that you've been waiting
to see and to watch him run over the defender.
Speaker 2 (21:33):
Yeah, he took two guys out on that he did,
and he was.
Speaker 5 (21:36):
So excited and obviously so, but even this week and
just talking to him and he made a couple of
highlight reels. He's gotten a whole bunch of texts, and
he always knew that he could play. But you start
having those moments, even if that is a short run,
and now you start to build that depth and just
kind of some of that experience and that feeling that
you were gonna need because that is a brutal position
(21:57):
to try to stay healthy out all year life.
Speaker 6 (21:59):
Yeah, over the years, it's why you see extra draft
a lot of running backs and they've gone through a
lot of them with injuries. I think fans can get
spoiled when you have Marshaan Lynch for almost a decade
just being I mean, you had that four or five
year run where he's just healthy every game giving you
twelve hundred plus yards. That's not normal in the NFL.
Running backs unfortunately get hurt. So to be deep there
and have Kenny McIntosh start to build that confidence is
(22:20):
a big deal.
Speaker 5 (22:21):
I also think people forget that it was a softening
process when Marshaw Lynch was in the game too. Yeah,
for sure, first and second quarter, everybody could stop Marshaan
for a one or two yard game. You start to
say everybody, but yeah, there was plenty of times for
your lifestyle, man, like what's going on?
Speaker 4 (22:37):
And then you start breaking them a little bit.
Speaker 5 (22:39):
In the end, we get an extra day to prepare
for the Lions if you are a fantasy player, though
I don't know if that extra day helps. Certainly helps
you know where you stand going into Monday night's game.
But look, if you need some help setting your lineups
and kind of breaking things down, well, our fantasy insiders
got angle.
Speaker 4 (22:59):
How's your cover?
Speaker 8 (23:00):
Danks Jenning John Week four and fantasy football, we could
get some big numbers from the Seahawks on Monday Night
against the Detroit Lions. Gino Smith the top twelve fantasy
quarterback this week. The last two times he has faced Detroit,
three hundred and twenty plus passing yards and two touchdowns
in each game. By Fantasy Association, Jackson, Smith and Jigba
(23:22):
could have a big game against the Lions as the
Seahawks roll up a lot of passing yards in other games.
I like Brian Robinson Junior with a heavy workload and
a high scoring game against the Cardinals to get in
the end zone and also to get in the end
zone in Week four, Zach massin the Cincinnati Bengals as
his Bengals try to earn their first weight of the season.
(23:45):
In the same game, Carolina going against Cincinnati with Andydalton
at quarterback against his former team. He's going to pepper
Deontay Johnson again with a lot of targets. Deyontay Johnson
a must start as a fantasy wide receiver. Three. And
if you're struggling, it's tight end. Go with Tason Hill
of the New Orleans Saints. He may qualify tight end
(24:08):
in your league and the format, so check for that
because he could get in the end zone as well.
They might use him for running quite often. Check out
more of my work on Seahawks dot Com. On the
Fantasy inside of TAM on the news page, and also
rotobowler dot com and the Athletic.
Speaker 4 (24:27):
Back to you, Jennet, John all right, thank yous, Scutt.
Speaker 5 (24:30):
I think we've covered this game from just about all angles.
Speaker 4 (24:35):
I'm just really excited for this one. I think it's good.
Speaker 5 (24:38):
And Seattle in primetime, well they've been really good. And
Seattle on Monday nights is good exceptional. Well, if I
just said really good, then you can't copy me and
say really good.
Speaker 4 (24:50):
You had to pick a different word.
Speaker 5 (24:52):
I'm gonna say exceptional because Seattle is fourteen and four
on Monday nights since twenty ten.
Speaker 6 (25:00):
I'll give one to our German friends and say I
was becauseisn't okay smart excellence?
Speaker 2 (25:06):
Really times?
Speaker 4 (25:07):
Did you have to practice that word?
Speaker 2 (25:09):
I studied German and high school.
Speaker 3 (25:10):
Jen.
Speaker 4 (25:11):
A few things stick, and that's the word that stuck.
Speaker 2 (25:14):
It's a cool word.
Speaker 4 (25:16):
Okay, all right? Well, things that I didn't know about John.
Speaker 5 (25:19):
Boyle that we're learning today, Here's what I really want
to learn, John, word are the two things that you
need to see for the Seahawks to come away with
a win.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
As good as this Lion's offensive been has been so far.
Speaker 6 (25:30):
They've turned it over four times so far, and as
I mentioned earlier, Seahawks big plays in both games pick
sixes by Trey Brown last year Week one in the
year before.
Speaker 2 (25:39):
That offense is good enough, they're going to move the
ball some.
Speaker 6 (25:41):
I know the CX defense is playing really well, and
I expect them to do really well, but it's not
going to be three points.
Speaker 2 (25:48):
I think they're gonna need to make some plays.
Speaker 6 (25:49):
So give me a turnover to make you know, pass
rush the X pass rush has been awesome. We haven't
really touched on that today. But pressure rate, sack numbers,
they're doing a ton of good stuff. So doubts and
pressure and get to him flip side of that, just
give Gino Smith some time to operate the biggest and
I'll tie to that. And maybe I'm getting greedy and
taking too many things. Get rid of the offensive line penalties.
(26:11):
To me, that's kind of goes in the bucket of
the offensive line has done a lot of things really well.
I think they're getting maybe unfairly hammered right now, but
they do need to get rid of some of these
penalties that have killed drives the youth. The third down
numbers last week for the checks they were really bad.
Speaker 3 (26:26):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (26:26):
Because they were so I think it was like seven
third and fifteens or longer.
Speaker 5 (26:29):
Well, that was going to be the thing I was
going to say, you've got to convert your third downs. Well,
I would just say, look, you've got to convert third
down because, like I mentioned before, Detroit is one of
the best in the leagues. Detroit's converting about forty five
percent of their third down opportunities. You're right, if Seattle's
going to be backed up, it's nearly impossible to convert
on what third and twenty six or third and thirty.
Speaker 4 (26:48):
Four, whatever it was that we saw last week.
Speaker 5 (26:50):
But your point being, don't put yourself in that position
because you were going to need to stay on the
field against this Lions team. I love the note about
getting pressure on Jared Goff. What was it six sacks
last week?
Speaker 2 (27:01):
Yes, for the Seahawks quarterback hits yep.
Speaker 5 (27:04):
And that really helps those numbers jump because last week
we were talking about how much pressure they were getting
without actually getting to the quarterback necessarily and getting those sacks. Also,
just three takeaways I think this year.
Speaker 4 (27:16):
For the Seahawks.
Speaker 6 (27:17):
Rashean Jenkins mentioned that, you know that's of all things
are doing well, that's what he wants to see them
get at this week.
Speaker 5 (27:23):
Yeah, so I guess instead of coming up with new
things to watch, I'm just going to piggyback on yours.
It is going to be a physical game, and I
want to see the same physicality that we have seen
in the first three weeks. I want to see that
play out, right. I don't want that to be a fluke.
I don't think that it is, but I really want
to see them go head to head and start maybe
(27:44):
silencing that crowd at fort Field because it is. It
is a loud, racous crowd. It'll be fun looking forward
to it, and we well, I was hoping you would
show a little bit more enthusiasm in that.
Speaker 4 (27:55):
Would you like to try it one more time?
Speaker 2 (27:57):
Looking forward to it? Jen that the.
Speaker 5 (28:00):
Note we are going to end on, and we'll be
back with you next week for another edition of the
Seahawks Insiders podcast. H m hmmm.
